REVIEWS OF Masa Japanese Restaurant Vancouver IN Vancouver

Laura Lee

Food was average in Vancouver standard. Wait staff barely speaks English. The restaurant was pretty empty but we were rushed to finish and the bill came while we were still eating. Then no one came to settle the bill for like half an hour. I suggest going to another place where food and service are equally good.

Maurício Ruiz

Slow service, bad food. Found long strand of hair in soup, and cutlery. I'm a male with short hair so it definitely wasn't mine.

Betty Kyan

Our go-to sushi place in the area! Love the staff, the food, the prices, the location, and the extended hours! The Masa Aburi Nigiri and the Seafood Nabe are amazing! They have lots of options. Good for groups or couples. They are open until late! We always return!

Jason Shao

Not bad for the price

Dino Koumbis

Place felt a bit dirty... service was brutal. And both bathrooms were out of service. We couldnt even wash our hands. Not going back.

TS D

Not a huge fan of the price or quality of some of the food, good place for late late night dining opened until 2am.

Colin Do

I was in Vancouver for the first time ever a few years ago. My girlfriend and I were there for only a 3 days, and this was one of the few places we went to. Quite possibly the most memorable restaurant of our trip. We arrived pretty late at night, but the place was still busy. It must have been a last-minute rush, because I think they only had one server, and she was definitely overwhelmed. Regardless, she provided everyone great service and attention. We had one of their combination plates and a bunch of nigiri, and everything was top-quality. Their Ton Katsu plate was some of the best I've had. Being stuck during the pandemic here in the U.S., I can't help but reminisce of places like Masa. It's a must-go place.

Diven Yeung

Amazingly good nigiri

Héctor Veiga

Beautiful design and great menu. Food is good and service is good. I gave 4 stars only because my waitress was new and screwed up my order. Other then that everything was good.

Kian Dowedoff

This is a great sushi place! The food is good, not too expensive, and the service is very friendly!

Douglas Feltham

Our office is right across masa sushi and we come here on a weekly basis ! Reasonable pricing and really good quality of food the chef is friendly and actually greeted when the diner who enter the door. Very nice utensils (especially the tea cup and the soy sauce 2-in-1 design) and atmosphere. It’s approximately $40/ person range to have really good dining experience ! Fresh food and great place to be at!

Jessica Furmanski

Classy Japanese restaurant! Real napkins and real chopsticks at your table. Very pleasant atmosphere with Japanese artwork throughout the seating area. There are lots of options for sushi and plenty of other items on the menu as well. I ordered the vegetable udon noodle soup with added premium vegetables. It was a delicious and filling meal for only $8. All in all, I would definitely return to this restaurant and recommend it to others!

One of the best dine out restaurant This is a very trendy Sushi restaurant in Vancouver, and Vancouver has many Sushi place also we ate Japanese food many times while in Canada at some fine restaurants, but this one was the best. the food tastes awesome. The flavors were just perfect and the service was top class. Another amazing this is how fresh the food tastes I think this was my best meal in a long while

Jenkin Tsui

Pretty decent food overall and great value for money. Quite a few veggie friendly options, though none of them blew me away. The ex-girlfriend roll and the veggie yaki soba are a couple of good options for vegetarians.

Alan Ivan Mendoza

Great prices! Very clean.

Jeff Kang

Great for the price! Service gets busy sometimes

2022: The restaurant is showing its age and it's quite sad but the pandemic seems to have affected it as well. There was only one young waitress around for a quiet Sunday lunch and for some reason, they had really poor communication, weren't very welcoming and generally came across as passive aggressive (roughly setting the plates and clearing them when were almost finished). In fact another couple wanted to order and the waitress simply stood awkwardly at their table without saying anything before the couple realized they had to initiate the conversation to order. Food wise, it's reasonable, liked the Atlantic salmon and the unagi is pretty okay. Unfortunately, I can see inflation has forced them to lower their portion sizes as we had to order more to feel satiated. Silly note: music selection needs work/variety. Too much K-pop and K-pop. 2018: Great fare for a reasonable price. Japanese staff work here and the food is generally also fairly Japanese. They have created some fusion dishes that are worth trying if you're adventurous

Dmitry Emelyanov

Visited Masa with friends. The sushi and sashimi was fantastic. Pitchers of Sapporo for a reasonable price. Nice clean restaurant. Friendly staff. I would definitely return. Thanks for the great meal.

Kofi N. Manu

Food took over 40 minutes to arrive, it wasn't even busy. Food wasn't even good.

Mike Mah

Food is consistently good and fresh. Sometimes the wait time can be a bit much when busy, but if they’re busy you know it’s good. Would def recommend as a must try place! Plus the deal on Sapporo beers is in matched in the city!

Alex Li

My wife just walked out of this restaurant because of absolutely horrible service. The waitress dropped a bowl of soup on her and made absolutely no apology and had zero remorse. It was almost criminal how bad the service was by this waitress; she was very snotty and had a big attitude, very disallowing.

rahim valli

Great place and open late; what's not to love.

Marianne S

Great food even when its open super late! Highly recommend. Price is about the average for sushi.

Shivansh 77

Screwed up my take out order, slow, but tasty as all hell.

Steven The

Good sushi, open late!

Ivan Alan “SquirrelTeam91” Mendoza

My favourite oven-sushi place!

Joshua Fang

Easily my most favourite sushi restaurant! My bf and I love it here, convenient location and great prices for the amount you get!

Sienna P

A mainstay in Fairview Heights, we enjoy their rolls, curry, etc. Some parking is available. $$ bon appétit

Leonardo do Couto

Clean place, good service, food is good.

Blake Gallacher

My favorite sushi place in Vancouver. Enough said.

Laura Guglielmin

Good sushi for good price. Quality cheap beers and friendly staff.

Rachel Howard

Overall, the menu has many selections and food was good. They tried to be more original in some of the dishes and presentation was good. The only problem we had was there was sand in the surf clam sashimi, but they didn't charge us for it and offered to replace it. The service was good. Not difficult to find parking on the street. Worth trying.

Justin Frydman

Good food, good service, decent prices, wrapped up in a lovely atmosphere with amazing hours of operation!

Dennis Long

Friendly service, good food. Usually longer wait times (15-20 minutes; once 30 minutes) during lunch rush and dinner rush.

I'm not sure if the owner changed? Anyway, my review is really just some descriptions of the photos I will post. You can decide for yourself. How in the world did this place get such good reviews? I honestly didn't think I could get this kind of sushi in Vancouver. Sake bomb roll: was just okay. Alaska roll: wasn't what I expected. Smoked salmon. Started falling apart as we picked it up. Shrimp prawn skewers: So, we ordered this because of picture of it we saw on yelp. Hamachi nigiri: It seems the sushi chef went home early, and so they freaked out and cut the hamachi sashimi in half and threw them on rice. Salmon Sashimi: They charged us $8 for 5 pieces of thin, lean salmon. Seriously do not know where they found this quality salmon. Go to sushi Mura, or sushi California.

Kim Nielsen

Was expecting to order whatever we wanted but after 9pm it's a late night menu...I will need to come back to try the something from the actual menu

Max Nesterov

Yum :) Service is always great too!

Hybrid buz

Open late and fish is great. Bring a mate or have a date!

Was in the area and wanted to grab some Japanese food with friends. Entered the place and was seated right away. Waited for about 10-15 minutes no server came over to give the menu, let alone tea/water. Food was below average when it came. None of the servers came and check up on us after the food was served. Went to use their washroom and a male employee walked in with me, he was cleaning while I was in the women’s washroom. No privacy or common sense at all!!! Told my friends about it when I came out. And apparently my friend had the same issue earlier when we first came in. He was washing his hands and the employee was shoving him aside without saying anything to get the cleaning supplies below the sink. So rude and disrespectful! Seriously if you want to clean the washroom so bad, you could do it when the customers are finished using the washroom not going in there while the customer(s) are in there!!! Anyways we finished our meal and chatted for awhile. When we wanted to order more food, the server said they were closed and gave us the bill. We told her nobody came and informed us that you are closing or gave us notice about last call for the kitchen. She brushed us off and walked away. No apologizes, nothing. This was very embarrassing and ridiculous, I mean at least have the courtesy to ask us for any last calls before you close!!! These people need to learn how to keep their customers. First and last time we will be visiting here!

Susanna Parackal Varghese

Awesome and tasty food. They can improve on the customer service though. The stars are for the food. I ordered hot sake, crispy dynamite roll, spicy salmon sashimi and ex girlfriend roll, they were yum.

Ashleigh Dent

Food was average but the service almost non-existent. Came over once, brought our food, then no where to be found...

Miko Bacomo

How unfortunate that one bad employee can ruin my entire experience dining at this restaurant. The waitress had a frown to greet us to our table, threw the tea cups down and spilt the soup almost on our laps and without an apology. Walked out disgusted. Never going again. Awful.

CAM M

Great lunch combos; their sushi course contain a variety of food that will definitely fill you up!

Jean-Francois Richard

Quick , excellent service, delicious food

Flo B.

This place is an absolute gem - they're open until 2am almost every day of the week and offer some really delicious Japa-Korean food for cheap! They serve everything from curries, sushi platters, appies, fried rice/ noodles and drinks to ramen which is perfect for when McDonald's or A&W just don't cut it. They have lots of partitioned seating for big groups which is also great. Overall, definitely recommend checking this place out!

Amos Leung

The flavor of the food here is undeniable and far superior than most Japanese joints. My boyfriend and I ordered the curry chicken and oyako don. But I was disappointed with the portion of my curry chicken. I only got 6 tiny pieces of chicken and I added extra veggies for $2 which only ended up being 3 small pieces of broccoli added to my dish. I really loved the flavor but the price is not worth what you get. The oyako don was also gleaming with flavor and woke up our tastebuds but again it was too small for almost $12. I say come here only for special occasions and if you are feeling spendy. But not if you are starving and looking to be filled. The prices of their beer is cheap however. $12.50 for 4 bottles Sapporo or $12 for a pitcher. Unfortunately my boyfriend and I do not drink so we could not take advantage.

Mir Gregory

Has a sushi combo meal for $15 and the value was good. It included 4 nigiri sushi, 12 pieces of small maki rolls, 6 pieces of sashimi and a miso soup. It was about 800 calories in total. They have very friendly staffs and I like their interior deco, which is also good for business lunches and dinners.

Mike Camacho

Amazing service and great sashimi.

Richard Ha

Great prices, amazing food, my place to go for sushi in Vancouver

Jeremy Denton

Food is good and probably better than your run-of-the-mill sushi restaurants in the west side of Vancouver. The fish seems relatively fresh but not frozen as if it just came out of a freezer, a mistake that a number of other mid-grade sushi joints make. They also have aburi (flame-seared sushi) and battera (pressed rolls) which many places do not serve. We came here for sushi, so did not try many of the cooked food options just as ramen or udon. They have good prices on draft beer, $5 local pints and I think a $12 pitcher of Japanese import. The late hours (open till 2am most days) are great and the staff seem friendly, but the service is a little lacking. The partitions between tables makes it very difficult for you to catch the server's eye, and they didn't come to check on us even once. I hate having to resort to standing up to get a server's attention, and wouldn't do it at any other restaurant but was left with no choice here. What should've been a half-hour meal took over an hour and a half, and most of that time was spent waiting to re-order or waiting for food. We were also offered tea upon being seated, but it wasn't brought to us until after the order was placed, the food started to arrive, and we asked for it again. We were definitely not the only table to have experienced poor service, as the couple sitting at the table next to us also seemed to have a hard time trying to get their bill and pay for it. A couple of tips for those still interested it visiting: 1) Make your decisions quickly and order ALL YOUR FOOD as soon as you have someone's attention. Do not even attempt to order more items or you will be waiting for half an hour to get them. 2) When you're ready to pay, go stand up front by the counter. Don't wait for someone to come by to bring you a bill or take payment.

Andrea Zotelli

The Toro Nigiri is great, and the Beef Curry was good, also their Tonkatsu was juicy and crunchy. Service was pretty good too. The rest of the Nigiri (Saba and Ika) was a little dry.

Timur Guener

Over priced! All prices have gone up and food is very average

Sherwin Shao

Overall I would recommend. Been here a couple times as a budget friendly sushi place that's a notch better than fast food type sushi. I've had sushi pizza, beef udon with "premium vegetables", agadashi tofu, and sashimi and all have been good. - Quick friendly and attentive service - Comfortable, clean, new looking interior - Good food

Leonard Ranz Bacolod

Food was very fresh and flavorful, the atmosphere was soothing with nice jazz music, and the service from Aaron was world class ???? 5 stars all around, and they're open late everyday until 2am ! ????

Yash Gowda

Ramen is meh. No lunch boxes. Useless.

Jay Z

The food is good and they can accommodate large groups, so we go with the team from work often. The only downside is the service isn't the greatest... The food often comes out at all different times or they'll skip one person on the table, or bring out the wrong orders... But once it does come out, it's good!

Zubair Hirji

I went here on Tuesday night after work at 1 am, firstly I asked for draught Sapporo and the server poured my pint from an old pitcher and topped it off with draught. I told her to pour me a fresh pint. My 2 friends joined me and they got there food first. Mine came out 15 minutes later after we had to ask and they gave me the wrong order the server continued to argue when the chef came over. It was pressed wild salmon and it was drenched in oil. Very poor food and service

Kevin Kuei

The service and staff are friendly. I felt the price was a little high for a smaller than usual order of basic sushi.

Andrew Mardjuki

I came here once with friends to try it out. Overall experience was pretty good. The interior decor was very cozy and fitting. My friends and I ordered gyozas to share and our individual mains. The price of everything was quite low in comparison to other "cheap sushi" restaurants. So, the the quality of ingredients for food is also discounted to match the price. This was especially noticeable for the salmon sashimi dish I ordered (refer to photos). The special rolls are very interesting and unconventional. They're fun to try and share. A major critique is for the overwhelmingly large menu (in size and options). It was very hard to go through the whole menu within a reasonable amount of time for first time and know what to order.

Irina Zemlyankina

Nice place to go when all of the other restaurants are closed. Service was very good. Our waiter was giving us advice on what to order based on value. For was good, but not memorable.

We recently visited Masa on a Sunday evening after not coming for many years and found the restaurant to be very inviting on a rainy evening. They have a huge menu (prepare to take some time to decide!) with some surprises- not just the usual donburi/rolls/udon. We tried one of the house special rolls - can't recall the name but it involved crab, tobiko, avocado chile and cheese... Gloppy and ridiculous but very tasty - our 7YO asked if he could 'eat this everyday!..' We also tried some classic rolls and nigiri - fish was sweet and fresh, avocado roll had a lovely proportion of avo to rice- which highlighted the creamy-ness of the avocado. Spicy miso ramen was properly spicy and comforting, though broth was a little one dimensional- noodles were perfectly done. Agedashi tofu trio was fair - and beautifully presented- but was quite bland with exception of the diablo-ish sauce that was reminiscent of korean jang. (However, bland is ok, IMO, with super-fresh tofu!) Our goma-ae was small but very tasty, the spinach was very fresh and the sauce had just the right balance of sweet and salty richness. My family are tofu-freaks, and the only miss (and was not awful by any stretch..) was the tofu teriyaki, which had a texture that was neither satisfyingly crispy nor super custard-y. The rice/potato flour (?) coating slid off with each bite and gave it a raw, starchy flavour. It was served with a tiny mound of rice and a thickened teriyaki that had the consistency and sweetness of corn syrup. Underneath, there was a small, sad pile of oily, maligned vegetables; coarse-cut cabbage, yellow onion and a mushroom cut so thin it was near transparent. But that was the only miss! There was an amazing deal on Sapporo beer (4 for $12!) and value overall was good. Masa is a nice roomy restaurant, with a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. How nice to not have your elbows inches from strangers! Decor is pleasant, with traditional artwork, and roomy booths/tables, flanked by murals. Service was very good- courteous, efficient and altogether pleasant. We would certainly return.

Ordered chicken curry and miso noodle. Both taste not as good as real Japanese meals. Could be better. The servers all in great serving attitude, but there was so few of them. We wait at the reception for 1 min and there was no menu given that we have to run to grab one

Mehdi Saadati (Meds_recipes)

Chopped Scallop rolls there are very, very tasty. I surely will be back.

It’s a real shame that a good establishment can be let down so badly by one staff member. We’ve eaten/ordered from Masa a number of times and would consider ourselves somewhat of regulars at the place. But unfortunately the young female server who works there is just incapable of any form of manners or empathy towards anyone else but herself. We’ve had instances in the past where she’s been quite rude when ordering. But the last time we ordered from there was nothing short of a joke. We rang in to order a lunch for two so we could pick up and take to the park. After confirming the full order she confirmed the total amount due, took our name and number and we were told that the wait would be 30 minutes for pick up. We felt this was a little excessive (Considering it was sushi) and would push our plans a little, but went ahead anyways as we genuinely enjoy the food at Masa. After waiting the 30 minutes and heading over to the restaurant to pick up the order we were greeted by the same women who took the order. After stating I was there for the pick up she very abruptly told me “there’s no orders for pick up”. I clarified that we spoke 30 minutes ago and reiterated the conversation. She claimed that the call got cut off at the end so she didn’t put the order through. I was shocked and clarified that we did place the order, she even repeated it back over the phone, took my name and number and told us the wait time. At this point she very rudely denied this series of events by saying that no order was confirmed and said it wasn’t her problem. I was very confused. I then ask how long it would take to replace the order to be made. She responded with “I don’t know”. At this point we were starting to get frustrated. There was clearly some form a miscommunication when placing the order. Regardless of whose fault it was , just acknowledging what had happened and trying to accommodate a solution would have been sufficient (albeit still annoying). Without any hesitation she continued on with what she was doing and didn’t seem at all bothered about what had happened. I’d put this down to maybe a bad day, very busy day, or something else along those lines. But having dealt with this person time and time again, it’s simply just her persona. You only have to read through the various other reviews to understand that she is a common denominator in most people’s bad experiences at Masa. How she is still employed is beyond me. In conclusion, food is pretty good at masa and it’s a nice place but this server is so negative and unaccommodating it simply over shadows the rest of the experience.

The food was great, I had the beef Udon and it was very tasty. I definitely recommend it. Service was a bit slow to take order and give us the bill (we had to ask about 3 times, as the girl didn't seem to get it the first time). Will definitely be back.

I enjoyed my dinner here. Everything tasted delicious and presentation was beautiful. Workers were friendly. I would come back.

I ordered beef teriyaki and expected a small to medium serving, when the dish arrived there was a mountain of beef and a small scoop of rice, pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it! I've been here twice now and both times the service has been great and sushi has met or surpassed my expectations. The second visit was with a small group near closing time and the chef personally brought out a plate of sliced oranges for us. Thank you, I'll be coming back ????????

Shakiel Mohammed

Great sushi and sake/sapporo specials. Would recommend!

Cole Alexander

Anytime I try to dine in or get take-out they either forget to place my order, or order the wrong thing, multiple times. I've literally never received anything I've actually ordered there.

Rowan Springfield

Full price ramen but without the soft-boiled marinated egg. Instead they give a normal hardboiled egg.

Mimm C

Staff are very nice and amazing. Was wonderful and the meal was super delicious!

GreaterThan BLANK

Authentic Japanese taste. The fishes are fresh and excellent service from the floor staff.

fackly M

I loved to have found this cute japanese place.

Tania C.

It is one of the best late night sushi spot and I frequently visit this place. The ramen to be honest not the best in the world(some might argue is one of the worst) but imagine eating it after super ot in a dark and winter nights. Also it has one of the best if not the best katsu don in B.C. Every element in the don is carefully crafted. Since the chef maybe classical trained the special American sushi is a hit and miss and the deep fried tofu with fruit is definitely something to avoid. But tonight I order their chopped scallop roll and the strangest thing had happen , the scallop is cooked. There could only a few reasons and given the long weekend it is not hard to guess which one is it. But, I want to give the chef a chance and I ask my server why the scallop is cooked and he rush in kitchen and come back with the answer is easy to chop. Regardless of the reason something like this should never had make it to the table and I can sense the chef is losing care. Hence I will not return is a shame really because of that perfect don.

Matt

Come regularly every month and it never disappoints. The signature sushi rolls are seriously delicious and presented well

Linda Fach

Reasonably priced and great tasting food

Jean Sauvé

This is my favourite Japanese Restaurant in Vancouver. The menu is so creative and delicious and the staff are so friendly. The restaurant is spacious and perfect for large groups and parties. A warm and decorative interior. My favourite is the special called Knights of the round table. Just try it. It's fantastic. I've tried both eating in and taking out - both stellar experiences. Definitely a part of my favourites go-to Japanese eats in Vancouver. And I have to mention the positivity of the staff there. All the servers were so friendly and courteous. The cook from the kitchen also came out to say hi and I think his name was Brian. We really appreciated his care for the food and it tastes amazing. Keep up the great work!! I will definitely be back!

Nick Gazdag

Great for late night sushi (limited menu).

Anvit Srivastav

Masa is a Japanese term for 正 Right,Correct. I m a delivery customer/sushi lover and think the chef here is a Japanese. Authentic sushi, satisfied, thank u.

E O

Great local spot that has been fantastic for years! Lava roll is 100%

Sam Price

Not the best Japanese food around. I was brought tea and then my food, no one approaches to take your order, no one checks in with you. I guess I was only allowed 1 glass of water and 1 pot of tea.

Rene Schimoller

Great food, prices and service.

Food was okay'ish and Prices were very reasonable. They used chicken thighs in all chicken dishes. I prefer chicken breasts instead.

obada

Great food, setting and cheap drinks. Noce service, will be back

Evan Wiley

Amazing food and staff! Appreciate that!

Zoe Newton-Mason

One of the more underrated sushi restaurants in Vancouver.

R “Jokeracing” Z

Never order a ramen there, instant ramen tastes better. Sushi is good and affordable =). Place suitable better for groups, and it's well decorated.

Hamed

Pretty good lunch specials. Comes with a basket of tempura and some other dishes. Reasonable price and I would return again if I am in the area.

Brendan Gardner

Tempura was soggy af, udon soup had 0 flavour, sunomono was tiny and the ebi smelled terrible, all we could taste was tempura flakes. Service was meh. The front lady at the cashier glared at me when i was paying lmao

Conrad Olson

Great food, big portions and low price.

Excellent food and great prices. 5$ for a 20 Oz pint and or 4 sapporas for either 12.99 or 13.99 can't Remeber. Great deal though. Open to 2 every night. So between the beer and The hours..... And food. It's perfect

I visited Masa Japanese Restaurant one afternoon before work. The entrance is located on W Broadway, it is super easy to miss it but because I walk by it almost daily, the signs out front intrigued me. Upon entry, I was greeted and seated at a booth. Usually booths are great but I found this one situated much too low which resulted in the table being too close to my face. I am a short individual but I never really encountered this before. A menu had already been preset on the table as well as a dining tray with a tea cup, sauce bowl and chopsticks. Tea was brought promptly as well. I ordered the katsu curry. The dish came pretty quickly which I appreciated. At first glance, the dish looked delicious! Fresh katsu, good portion of rice and curry which had some mixed veggies in it. At first taste, the curry was a bit bland. I was hoping for more sweetness or more flavour but it just wasn't there. The katsu was indeed fresh which still earns some points in my books. I had also ordered a tempura yam roll which was good. I felt the sushi rice was fresh and seasoned appropriately. Masa also promotes a cheap late night menu so I am hoping to come back to try more items as I will not like one dish dictate my views on the restaurant. I feel the other dishes as well as the sushi would be great!

thomas fisher

I enjoyed my dining experience and the sushi was also very good. I have eaten at this restaurant 4 or 5 times and I am never let down with the sushi quality. I love the cheap pitchers of Sapporo. The staff are all very nice, especially the owner. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with Japanese art and the seating areas are comfortable. Soon there will also be a rooftop balcony! I love this place.

Barbara Kozicki

My fiance, Billy, and I go here regularly for late night sushi. We just love it! And we re-kindle our love for each other each time we go. Thank you Masa ♡

Maxim Bachmakov

I had the miso ramen. It was on the lower side of acceptable.

Kayla Kennedy

Ordered: 4 miso soup 2 sunomono salad "Roll roll party tray" 2 Toro (sashimi) 1Spicy tuna roll 1Crunchy prawn jalapeño roll (10* amazing but I can't rememberthe name of it) Phenomenal service and great sushi. The atmosphere is pleasant inside and out on the patio. Perfect place for an intimate date or a large party. Love this gem, ill be back here often.

OK but wont be back! With so many options in Vancouver for Japanese, I thought this place was not worth a second visit. The curry we ordered ( Both Chicken and Beef) were a bit wet for my liking and the portions very small. We were served the bill before they took away our dirty plates and we were asked if we would be paying after some ten minutes. Only when I asked for dessert were the plates taken away. Dessert was very good. Clear language barrier on behalf of some of the wait staff.

Sam Kraiwong

Very slow service even with the restaurant empty. This was the first time that I had a Ramen with a completely cooked and dry egg. It’s a shame, because this place looks really nice and stay open until late.

sergio borja

not bad

Atlas Fishard

Sea food always fresh. I prefer mix tempura and deep fried roll for myself. If you put some tofu and kelp in miso soup, and using bigger bowls, that’s perfect.

Jinchen Cai

This was our second time here and it was great as the first! We found this spot when we were looking for restaurants open past 11pm. Tucked away up on the second level on Broadway. We were seated quickly and service was very friendly. The set up has classic Japanese style booths as well as regular tables. They have good drink specials. Menu is fairly large so there is lots to choose from. Food came quickly and was very good. The oshi sushi and special rolls were very good. Worth a visit!

Great deal on Sapporo here. The service is very polite and the sushi is top notch. The decore and atmosphere are exactly what you expect, and our food came quickly. Only reason it's not 5 stars in my book is that we had two separate wait-staff try and take our food and drink orders after we had already ordered, but when we were ready to settle our bill and leave, there was quite a wait because all the wait-staff we're dealing with take out orders.

Reasonable price but food is so so. Tempura was not well cooked. Staffs are friendly though

Cecile Sider

Servers were rude and inattentive. As well, they couldn’t speak English properly. The sushi did not taste good. All the rolls were drizzled with a lot of sauce which made the sushi very salty!

vedant g

The server didn't even understand what I said and all the special rolls are too salty

Gabriela Gonzalez

Affordable place with street view from seconf floor

Siobhan Davis

Definitely one of the best places to get quality Japanese food until late in Vancouver! Everything from from fancy rolls to Ramen is on the menu! Decent prices too. Service can be a bit slow, but hey it’s worth it. The place is open until 2 am, last call is around 1:30.

First Last

Cute upper level eatery. Good service. Food is a little higher quality than other sushi places. Free tea also!

Salvatore Sakib

It has a nice atmosphere but the sushi is not that good. If you want sushi after 10 p.m that is a good place to go.

Pranav Saxena

The service was pretty bad. The server seemed annoyed when we ask for extra tea (refilled once), plates (only chopsticks are on the table when we sat down, the server sat down the food and walked away) and the soy sauce plate for sushi. Everything we asked for should be prepared on the table before we came? The food quality is pretty bad. The Yaki soba was sour, tasted pretty funny. We ordered the roll party tray as well. Pretty filling. The tempura are not crispy and kinda soft. Been sitting outside for quite a lot of time. 5 person paid $58 including tax and tips

Javad M

Great sushi & courteous staff. Wonderful atmosphere for a gathering of friends.

Ray Gee

An extensive menu featuring delicious Aburi sushi, inventive specialty rolls and even tasty salads, all very reasonably priced. After 3 visits it's become my new neighbourhood go-to.

Eric Yeung

The sushi seemed to be at par with the prices, I'd you looking for a decent cheap sushi place, you shouldn't need to go go much further.

E-say

Great sushi with a very nice atmosphere.

Natti Schmid

Great food at decent prices, service could be better. Don't be afraid to flag down your waitress.

Aaron Schuler

I ordered the teriyaki lunch special and a bottle of hot sake. In spite of the fact that their menu states that the meal includes three side dishes and a miso soup, I only received some dry teriyaki chicken on rice and nothing else. I tried to be patient, but I was on my lunch break and after 20 minutes I asked for the rest of my food and my drink (I am a regular customer and order this meal all the time, so I know what is supposed to be served). The server eventually brought me my sake, and a takeout container?? I would have tried again to explain myself, but for some reason, the sushi chefs (I was sitting at the bar) thought the situation was funny and began verbally ridiculing me in front of the other customers and making fun of the fact that I was drinking sake. I was so angry and humiliated that I simply walked over the the cash register to pay and leave. When I tried to explain to the woman at the cash register how angry I was at the way I was treated and the fact that I had only received half of my food, she just stared at me and made no offer to correct the situation. I eventually paid full price for half a meal and some of the most disgraceful customer service I've ever received. I used to be a regular at this restaurant and have written several very positive reviews about Masa online. Today I have decided that not only will myself and my family never set foot in this restaurant again, I will also be going back online and re-writing my reviews to let other potential customers know exactly what happened today.

This is one of my favourite go to Japanese restaurants. I was happy to see they were still open for takeout during these times. I ordered through Skip and an ikura nigiri I ordered they were all out of, Skip refunded me the money and I was fine with that. I opened my meal to find they had put in a tobiko nigiri on the house for me. ???????????? Thank you so much! I will continue to support your restaurant during this pandemic! Please keep making great food!

Daniel Pu

The food is here is very nice. I loved the salmon salad, there was a great balance of salmon and salad and it was not too spicy. My favourite was the sushi plater where you could get a sample of 8 different kinds of fish/seafood. On top of that the lady server was very nice.

Really bad service, and I only ever order the tonkatsu curry. The curry is really good, and the restaurant its next to my house. 3 stars baby.

Dano Lightwalker • Insight By Water

The best cuts of sashimi that I've had in a long time!! Mmmmmm ... so enjoyable!

Michael Lam

Tuna tataki so good! All aburi are also very good!

Connor Ellis

Love that they're open till late!

Michael Atkin

Excellent portion sizes, tasty sushies, great sashimies, delicious nigiries, hella decent prices

Amin Aghaee

Good food but absolutely worst service from the young girl that works here. We came and were the only people in the restaurant but still any request for service we had to wait ten minutes. Got water with a dead mosquito in it and the girl didn’t say sorry or anything just took the cup. I have never experienced such horrible customer service. I’ve been to this place several times and every time she is working there it’s the same bad attitude. When we were waiting for ten mins to have her take our order we look and she’s sitting in the back of the restaurant on her phone and the chef had to call her to the front. Astonishing.

VIOLA LIN

Amazingly friendly service, great sushi and open late!

Leon

Food was tasty, price was alright. Had a nice location and atmosphere. I will likely visit again.

Enzo Casal

Great food. Great service. Chefs creations are quality.

Kirsten F

Reducing from 5 to 3 stars because they messed up my takeout order several times in a row. Missing items, ignored requested substitutions. Great food, but if you are ordering takeout, check everything carefully. Edit: Back to 5 stars for dine-in, not ordering a takeout.

Brian Martin

Great service and very affordable, delicious food

Shawn Zhang

Friendly staff, good food, good prices.

Robby Hlady

Ordered grilled teriyaki chicken bowl, received it cold and the chicken was fried.. when I asked about it their answer” oh the chicken is grilled but we fry it as well because it takes too long” would not ever come back!!!

Fatima Rizvi

Very reasonable prices, and quite decent sushi

Nathan Froese

A great place to go with friends. The menu has a wide variety of options, and is well worth going for dinner.

Jim Tempest

Very good food and some nice specialty sushis. Recommend theor Masa Course

Vinicius Borges

Fast and friendly service, delicious rolls.

Victoria “Kura” Johnson

Food was not bad. Had a ramen which was alright, but sushi were pretty good. However, service was non existence.

Steven Enns

Always amazing sushi...nice people work there

Alex Oh

Really nice:) clean ,delicious , perfect service

justin bowden

Nice place to just drink, and hang out with friends. Sushi is decent and at a fair price. Staff are accommodating

Mency Woo

Excellent food, nice setting, good value. This made a great stop in the middle of an otherwise busy day.

BattyBat

I have finally found a decent sushi place! Thank you for the most delicious sushi! I will be returning! ????

Jeanette Rodriguez

Honestly I regret changing our mind from original plan and giving this spot a chance. The only good thing there was the lady who greeted and seated us and that's about it. The place was pretty dead. Our server (teen girl with braces) was not friendly at all, no greeting, no questions asked, just wrote down order and took off. Brought us a miso soup and spilled it all over my husband's tray and instead of saying sorry, said "oh whoops" - never even attempted to clean it up, so we used our only napkins to clean the table and trays. When we got our rolls, which she just tossed on the table without a word, they were tasteless and falling apart, served on dirty and stained plates. I can't believe that it's possible to make dynamite roll so tasteless... My tuna in the mango roll was warm and the mango salsa tasted like watered down mango from a can. Long story short, I'll never be coming back here and I highly recommend to the owner, to keep an eye on what's going on there and what can be improved - especially cleaning dishes proper way, because that's pretty disgusting.

Aidan Shipley

Great food but lacking in service. It always takes too long for them to take our order to the point of us having to wave at someone, something that I think is extremely rude but had no other choice.

Ashton Charbonneau

Super friendly service. They gave us a couple of free nigiri sushi cuz they messed up our tempura order (they let us keep and eat the wrong one too!). Prices are very reasonable and the quality is really good for the price range.

Yining Wang

One of my favorite sushi places, they have good quality food, and really delicious special rolls!

Steven Joe

Standard taste using sauce that you can get in grocery store. The restaurant is having some traditional japanese layout but it is pretty old and torn.

Radha Khetarpal

Cheap place, very comfy, but the food wasn't impressive at all..

Felix Chao

Best sushi in Vancouver hands down. You gotta sit at the bar and talk with the chef for the full experience.

Probably my one of my favourite sushi places in Vancouver. Udon is always great and service is really friendly. I love that it’s on the second floor, much calmer atmosphere and the Japanese decor is so pretty to look at. One of my go tos when I want to bring someone somewhere to have lunch or dinner, also love that they’re open late!

Oziel Guerra

I honestly don't understand the people who have given this restaurant more than 1 star. The food is nauseatingly bad. It's really hard to make bad Japanese food in Vancouver but this restaurant has managed to do exactly that. The Aburi sushi is un-eatable. It's drenched is a sweet mayonnaise sauce. I had to throw the whole thing out. If you order the Kale gomae, you will get 7 pieces of kale. Seriously. And for delivery, apparently no chopsticks or sauce for the salad!

David Spinu

Seriously, eat here. Prices are good, food is amazing, beer is cheap, and staff are friendly. Definitely coming back.

HomerTheFatzo

This Japanese restaurant has all types of Asian food. Sushi, ramen, bbq etc... if you and your friends want different things, this is the perfect place

Brendon Wong

I can tell the difference from a quality Sushi chef. Everything is in perfect balance. Recommended!

Bonnie Park

Food is pretty good. Friendly service, nice big booths, and a patio that I hope is open next time!

Yvette Havlová

My review is based on several take-out experiences. The sushi I've tried had been delicious. The Masa monster roll and ex-girlfriend roll are two of my favourites. It could be a 5 star but I was pretty disappointed with the tiny wakame (seaweed) salad portions. We ordered two recently and it was essentially one bite of seaweed each. The amount on my plate was one full order of the seaweed salad and was about the size of one piece of sushi. Other than the disappointing size, I've been happy with the food here.

Hsianghsi Kung

Great lunch spot. Excellent sushi but the service can be slow with larger groups.

Jennifer Chu

Everything was average. The ambient and interior felt cheap and the food was sub par. We got chicken udon which was a bit too salty, miso ramen which was not fresh, and a dynamite roll which was okay. Wouldn't come back.

Chris Bits

For late night meals, nothing can beat Mass sushi. There is a huge variety of selection all at reasonable prices. The service was a little bit slow but that can be expected eith covid and the meal being so late at night. Other then that, the food was good and we were happy!

Jan Amy (詹愛咪)

They always carry fresh and tasty sushi. I have been getting lots of food delivery from this place and each time has been very good.

luke mathison

Great portion sizes and delicious dishes. Fair pricing and they do takeout as well. I like the venue itself.

Kynan Suttle

Delicious food, friendly atmosphere, fast service

James Wells

Great food and friendly staff, not to mention the interior was very nice

Mr. Nice Guy

Very avg tasting food for the price but the biggest negatives are: - very small portion sizes for the price. - the Wild Salmon sushi was absolutely disgusting, it was basically salmon on white rice broiled and then drenched in disgusting sweet mayo like dressing, this is NOT sushi. I ate one piece and threw the rest out, for $12 this was awful. I will never go back to this place again.

Richard Gee

Great sushi, good pricing. The rooftop patio is very cool as well.

Paul A

We ordered the Katsu curry and it came to the table cold. We sent it back and it still came back cold. The quality of the place has gone downhill. It’s clear it’s prepared with frozen vegetable mix and the service is appalling.

Leigh Peterson

Good quality, good service and good price. We'll be back.

raw bananas

Good menu, fresh fish. Fried dishes are not as good as the ones with raw fish. In general very good quality for asked price.

Mickle Pickle

The curry at Masa is amazing! The ramen and oshi sushi aren't great, but their special sushi rolls and their curries are delicious! Their curries are very well portioned; I recommend trying their tonkatsu curry. We ordered for takeout and they prepared our food pretty fast; remember the wait time to get your food because they don't call you when your order is ready!

Muddyboy Crossaxel

Avoid this restaurant at all costs. The waitress showed a terrible attitude and she didn't know how to serve food. She dipped her fingers into my soup. I ordered a shio ranmen and the soup base was literally water plus salt. I was hungry but didn't feel like finishing it all up.

Gary Tong

The server’s doesn’t have any communication skills i had to wait for 15 minutes though the order was canceled they didn’t tell me . Was ignorent all the time. Go there if you wanna have a bad experience.

Ashkan de Shiraz

Great place to get food with friends. Nothing fancy though.

Penny Rusty Sophie

Came here to eat coz of 4 star review rating. Not sure if their sushi menus are any better but curry dish and stir fried udon was not good. Also the young waitress was pretty standoffish.

Benjamin Hallman

Such a fabulous dinner!!!

Skicy6

Love this place. This was my preferred dinner while I was studying for my exam. The sushi always come out consistent and perfect. The ingredient is always fresh, and the service is awesome. You can never get this level of service from a western restaurant. I always prefer to go here for my lunch and dinner.

Oleg Ivchenko

Great place for sushi and drinks. Opens till late, has good selection of drinks and the food variety is great.

Kyle Warkentin

Beef curry, yummy and best tofu in vancouver!

Yeganeh Mehrbod

Prices are fantastic! Good variety of food. If you want to go cheap or a little fancy, there are options for everyone. They have parking in the back but only 3 spots.

Maug Wei

Prices are okay, average, not too expensive on higher priced items, not too cheap on the cheap ones. However the quality of the sushi is not good. Toro, tuna, Hamachi, lower grade stuff that just doesn't taste very good. I don't know what it is about fish that you can order the same type of fish and end up with stuff that tastes completely different. It's unfortunate, I really wanted to like this place since it opens late till 2am but I won't be back for sushi. Perhaps their cooked food would be better. Also the tea is mostly tasteless green water.

The quality of the food fits the pricing ..it has Good Value for what you pay for.. Highly recommend for a late night spot especially for sushi. The service can improve by being more attentive to the customers by checking in once in a while. But we really liked our seating arrangement for more privacy. The decor is beautiful and the presentation of the food is high end like...we really enjoyed this cute restaurant is....that post was old....this was my post after I've come here 5 seperate times with my boyfriend..but today I decided to come by myself..I was tired and hungry had a long day.. didn't feel like looking good just came in with my jogging pants and hoodie no makeup and running shoes...I order 3 miso soups because I needed soup, my throat was dry and I haven't I eaten all day because I was not feeling well...so I ordered my own sashimi plate chef choice then I ordered a seperate ikura sashimi for myself including brown rice..the male servers where so amazing they were so attentive this time and really watched me I love the service...I come in I didn't get a nice hello from the lady in the restaurant she looked at me funny even if she saw me everytime with my boyfriend and greeted with a hello and a smile when I was with him.. I was nice to her Everytime.... we have paid every single time when we were here I would think she would at least remember especially when we tip 20%..so again when I was done eating and added 20% for my tip to show my thanks again then I'm about to leave and this woman asks me if I paid the bill..I jokingly said no I didnt go ask them..... she has never asked if I paid the bill when I was with my boyfriend the 5 times I came to this restaurant !!! I will never come back here again!! I will not put up with women who judges other women for being by themselves because they just wanted to eat by themselves!!!! So if you are an independent woman who works and has your own money DO NOT COME HERE!!! I will go somewhere else!!!! You don't deserve my money ever again!!!

Sergei Slobodov

Food was very tasty and the staff very attentive well priced and good sized portions however 4 of the eleven people who attended had gastric problems. myself and one other person have a mild allergy to shellfish which may explain some of this.

Jad Mroue

The food is great, but the service is subpar. We had to ask the staff for the menu, and then again to put our order down. When the dishes arrived we had to ask for plates too. The servers need to be be more proactive about checking on people and providing a seamless experience for customers. Even though the food is really good, the experience is only as good as the lagging service.

The food was great. We had the ramen, lunch combo and the cheese monster .. but the service was so rude !! The cheese monster is sushi with melting cheese.. incase you don know cause the servers too rude to tell you that !!

I came away quite happy with what we had. My pork cutlet was crispy, chirashi don was complete, aburi was smoky! Dining room was spacious and price was decent!

I took my Japanese mother there and she was pleased.

Super fast service, and great sushi at a very reasonable price.

Harp Dhinsa

Authentic Japanese food for reasonable price and good service, which is very rare in Vancouver.

Tristan Dong

The lunch trays are great, and really good value

Cynthia Almendares

Reasonable price, but the taste was just ok. I was not happy their deep fried dishes. But sushi was pretty good. Sushi pizza looked nice, but the bottom rice part was too hard to eat. Presentation of dishes and the restaurant atmosphere were great. I would probably order just sushi if I visit here again.

Pooneh Ghasvare

Friendly stuff and a lot of choices on the menu

Hoa TuongVy

The ramen you get looks nothing like the ramen on the placard at the entrance to the restaurant. I was lured in by the picture and the compelling price. I was very disappointed. I would not return to the restaurant.

Davidson Pedersen

Amazing sushi and reasonably priced combos. Always fresh fish, very friendly and attentive staff. Even the ramen is good, if you're feeling hot food.

Carlos Mejia

My favourite place in the city for sushi at this price-point. Fish is always super fresh, service is so lovely, and their hours cannot be beat. I highly recommend trying this place if you haven't already!

Philman Yeung

Love this place. One stop shop for all your sushi and ramen needs. Fast friendly service and a nice selection of unique rolls. Also, licensed and open until 2am.

Gaspard Roche

Great value for money. They are very busy so sometimes service can suffer a little right around lunch, but I've always been very happy there.

Shashrvacai Cai

I got donkatsu Curry and sasimi combo Although the donkatsu wasn’t really bad it was totally disappointing as curry tastes instant curry from asian market and topped with canned veges (even worse than the one i make at home) They use salmon belly for sasimi which could be quite oily. Tuna was fresh. Roll was just okay not special Servers were merely chatting, not caring their customers at all Overall, i dont really recommend u to try this place

Sanju

Good sushi and the service very efficient

Ali Karimirad

Didn't come here with any expectations for dine out. But was surprising very pleased with the experience. Service was great. Very friendly staff. Offered us complimentary edame and miso soup to the whole table. Food was pretty good. Wasn't amazing food but I would come back for the service and interested in trying other items on their menu.

Carly R

For some reason this is the only sushi place in Van that stays open past 10:30pm, so if it's midnight this is your only choice. Lucky for us that it's actually good. Won't claim it's the best sushi place in the city, but the quality is above average and the price is fine for Vancouver Utility Sushi. And again they actually stay open past the early evening.

matthew stachniak

Is good. Want to be back to try the regular menu other than the "dine in" Event.

MarK Weber

Always a great time at Masa Sushi - Food is always made fresh, the servers are moderately happy most of the time, the chefs however are impeccable with their customer service. Be sure to order the lobster roll - it's a bit pricey but they make it so much better than the other restaurants around the area.

Andrew Fallows

It's one of the few sushi places that open late night. Love the mango paradise roll, great value.

Richard Skermer

Yes ramen yes. Get extra chasu it's worth it.

Moises Schini

Our favorite place to get good sashimi and rolls on weekends. We go here once per month and tried almost everything from their large menu. They have wide variety, from poke bowls to oshi sushi, and everything is tasty and has big portions. Rice and fresh fish is top notch. Sashimi are crazy cheap for their size, beef nabe soup is hearty and delicious. Service is great, tea is always full in you cup and once you are done with the main course, get some mochi ice cream to cool down. Can't recommend this place enough.

James Richards

This is a great, affordable restaurant! I used to work very close to this place and I frequently ordered their take out for lunch. But their service is quick enough that I could have eaten in as well. They are friendly, priced right and their food is great!

Isha Jain

Super yummy and well presented food, perfect service and wonderful interior. Try zukka zukka ????

J Smithson

Food was great and they open late night. Servers are very hospitable but they are having a hard time to speak english—but they are trying . It’s hard to find parking most especially right now there’s road construction nearby.

It's very cozy and the service is incredibly friendly and quick! The sushi is good, and it's a perfect place to sit down and get your fix of raw fish. Would come again. :)

Boris Wong

Fresh sushi, variety on the menu and great quality for the price. Private dining experience because of the large tables and booths. Friendly and fast service + authentic. Also good green tea!

Sergei Bazhenov

I love sushi and the food here was pretty good. That said, my problem is with the reliability. Both times I had food in the restaurant, at least one item was not entered into the system and took an extra half hour to arrive. The time we attempted to pick up our order, we were quoted half an hour and arrived at that time to grab our food. At that point, we were told the entire order was never actually put into their system and we would have to wait another 20-30 minutes to make our food while we waited. Now, if they had apologized for the inconvenience or thrown in a free gomae or something to show they valued our time at all, it would have been fine. Instead, every time it happens, it’s treated as though it’s not their problem. Sorry for the novel, just wanted to accurately illustrate the issues. If they sort that problem out, this could be a really solid choice for sushi in the area. Best of luck.

Myra Suniga

Not bad. Service was alright considering we had a huge group. Prob wouldn't specifically go back unless I was in the area and it was late.

Bobby

Been here a couple of times now. The sushi is good, but nothing special. The late night hours are nice option though. To echo many of the other reviews, the service is not great. Service is slow and the server we had was not very friendly at all. Even heard another table mention something about the server having “sass” and just kind of passive aggressively placing things on the table. Came here with a friend and she started feeling light headed, sick and needed to get fresh air immediately. I went up front and paid the bill and we left promptly. She accidentally left her wallet at the table. We called back the next day and the lady who answered the phone was extremely rude and said there was no wallet. We called back 2 more time’s because we were absolutely sure it was there. Same lady answered and seemed to be angry that we called back - and didn’t take our info down. Almost two weeks later, the police call and they have her wallet. The staff members at Masa sushi gave the police her wallet which was in the restaurant after all. And the girl never actually looked for her wallet. Unfortunately, my friend had already replaced all her bank cards and ID at that point.

Hamed Nazeri

Amazing food.

Waited 10 minutes only to be shafted to the bar seating. No menu was provided so after another 10 minutes I left.

Delicious & affordable, very nice staff.

Isaac Hui (DKMythos)

Good food at good price. Nice ambient and good service. Tempura was great and the fish seemed fresh.

Marilyn Mah

Has been my favourite place to get sushi, especially when I was living in the area. Chefs are very nice and kind people. I have noticed a slight decline in table service and the timing of food arrival during dinner hours, but hopefully its only temporary.

Jonathan Zou

Always good food

Hsiang-Hsi “Sean” Kung

Cheap late night eats. And food is good!

Chu (三寶貓鮮食)

The food tastes good. Reasonable price but my friend found a worm in the sashimi.

Jawn Jang

Wonderful atmosphere, head chef gives a hearty "Arigato!" to each customer as they leave! Beautiful view of the mountains. Food can be hit or miss, but when it's a hit - absolutely fantastic. The nabeyaki udon and the masa fried rolls are two must haves. Tempura and breaded dishes are fantastic. You'll be craving them after just eating them once! Overall, a fantastic and authentic sushi restaurant run with care. Highly recommend.

Aaron Aaron

Nice place. Soft music. The prices range from $3 to $20 for rolls.

Tammy Reynolds

Decent place for sushi at lunch. Been a couple times.

Alice Blacken

The quality is good compared to the price. The service was friendly. The only problem with the service was that they didn't bring the food for all of us at once. So they brought it one by one.

Autumn Prince

Due to no fault of their own, finding parking due to current broadway construction, it's hard to see and park for, but worth it. We were looking for a place open on Thanksgiving and they were, tons of tables and the food was great, definitely surprised. Will eat at again

Andrew B

The food was bad, the service was worse than no service. This was the side dish we didn’t even touch. Please don’t waste your money or time here.

Matt Wong

Come here once or twice a week for lunch, and it rarely disappoints.

Felicia Y

4 stars for the food and 0 stars for the waitress. I have been coming to Masa on and off for years because I work across the street but the service has died recently and management doesn't seem to notice or care considering the abundance of complaints on the reviews here. The waitress is a kid, she has no consideration for 'customer service' and just does the bare minimum of her job. Simply smiling would help enormously but she can't even manage that. I had some typical bad service for lunch today (she seats you down and takes your order when you call but never checks on you nor smiles at any point). When I went up to the exit to pay (had to get her attention because she was playing some game on a tablet) and gave her a 10% tip (generous, because of how meh the service was again), she asked if I wanted a copy (I said no) and literally snatched the receipt away with a deadpan stare. The food is good though, just not amazing to me. Still, someone in the kitchen knows what they are doing.

Daysen Zhang

Like this place - good food at a reasonable price, nice location and friendly staff. Our family's first choice where to go to eat sushi and some rolls. We usually take Double Dragon and Masa fried roll.

Nicole Benchimol

Sashimi is pricey but great quality food!!!

RenRay31

Ramen soup is not hot enough

James Bannister

Food is decent, service and operations have room for improvement. Can be tardy on one order or two and makes for awkward team lunch setting

Brett D

Initial thought was that it was a nice restaurant, clean inside, and the manager (or owner) lady had us seated very quickly. That's about where the good part ends. Short summary, they messed up our orders, food tasted bland, and charged us for something that never came, then questioned us like we were thieves when we told them it never came. In detail, after we were seated, a younger girl came to take our order moments later. We ordered a couple of rolls, a few aburi pieces, and a bowl of ramen. She had written everything down on a notepad. One of the two rolls and the aburi pieces came first. They had messed up the aburi and given us an incorrect amount of what we ordered. We caught the attention of a guy server, told him what we had ordered, and he brought it back into the kitchen. Not even 30 seconds later, the girl server comes back, drops the food back on our table, and leaves without saying a word. We figured that the value of the pieces was close enough so we just ate it anyways. About 10 minutes into the meal, we realized that we didn't have any tea or water, which is usually the first thing Japanese restaurants serve you with when you sit down. We had to ask for that too. The ramen came out after about another 15 minutes. He initially put the wrong bowl on our table but that was easily corrected after I told him. We had finished the ramen and the other roll was still nowhere in sight. We tried to catch the attention of a server but nobody came around for the next 10 minutes, so we decided to just go up and pay for everything. When we got the bill, we looked at it and they had charged us for everything we had originally ordered, including the roll that never came. We brought it up with them that one of the rolls never came, and the guy kept questioning us and asking "didn't it come before?" After checking with his manager several times, the manager was nice enough to tell him to just waive it. Overall, food was bland compared to some of the other restaurants we've been to. Pricing and atmosphere is good, but service was lacking, from our visit at least.

john gillis

Good food, good price

Marco A

The food here is okay. Large portions. Lots of choices on their menu. Not the best of qualities but it's a fair place to go if you just want to enjoy your time with a large party. They have lots of space for large parties and really nice staff. Being from Toronto, I expected the quality to be better than what we get here but it was just on par with our local budget places. That was disappointing.

Shayna Choong

Horrible experience, Sushi pizza? More like raw fish on 4 tiny chips? And for the cost of 8 dollar? Total ripoff... and when asked about why the dish looks nothing like the ones on the menu, waitress said oh it’s because it’s an older picture/menu.....and walked away. Very disappointed:(

The sushi there is amazing and for a very good price too

Matthew Alder

Great atmosphere and great food. Plus it’s cheap food. How could I complain?

Dina T

Hard to get to. Unfortunately I got sick after eating there. Decor is OK.

Michael Chiu

Ordered for delivery and food is low quality in comparison to other Japanese restaurants in the city- for the same price, if not more for some dishes. Oshi roll is not at all up to par and have had better from mall food courts- overcooked, too much rice and sauce felt very lard like. Although the food was disappointing, got my order right, on time and everything was packaged appropriately. From the looks of other reviews, I'd save your money and eat elsewhere.

Jenn C

This place is amazing! The staff are all super sweet, the vibe is good and the food is DELICIOUS, especially for the price. I loved the real crab meat avocado salad. It exceeded my expectations, as did their dynamite roll. Definitely recommend

Emily Logan

Rather classy place. Service top notch. Food very delicious. Prices - not cheap. I'll keep going back on occasion for sure!

Robert Yuen

OMG, new favorite place. Excellent service, quality and prices. Super recommended place for a nice bite with friends.

Erica T

Portion size was normal, presentation and taste were amazing. very satisfied. Definitely recommend ????

Kirsty Stevens

Service is not that good, been waited for a teriyaki beef for lunch for half an hour even I said I was in rush. Didn’t even get a water or tea at the end

Jomie Wager

Decent sushi at average prices. Update January 2021: quality is quite inconsistent. Ordered take out twice recently, a couple weeks apart. The size of the rolls and freshness of ingredients were very different. There is so much extra rice inside the roll instead of fish. Quite disappointed particularly when another japanese restaurant on the same block charges lower prices but quality is better compared to my most recent experience at masa.

Bianca Luo

Nice layout and lots of space. The nicest couple that work there are so friendly, not sure if they are the owners but they are very accomidating. Food was great! Service was fast and attentive. Very reasonable prices also! They are open late also. Definitely coming back!

carson Yamamoto

I enjoy the deco around the place, its also one of the few places that have japanese curry on their menu. The tonkatsu I ordered is crispy and fresh, along with the right amount of spice in the curry.

Gabriel Lai

Not bad, but if the place gets busy service suffers quite a bit.

Carly Quinn

Great, affordable sushi. Good beer prices too.

Julian Viacorta vera

Great food and service. Overall would recommend.

Chaebin Park

Compare to price it was pretty nice But don't expect great sushi from there

Doug Giordano

Very good quality sushi!

Michael Dumanski

Good food...good service..... friendly staff .

Jared Ludlow-Carroll

Great place with great food and excellent service.

Graeme H

Service was decent, food was decent, experience was decent, but still... only ⭐⭐⭐ After passing their reasonably priced ramen sign on Broadway almost every day for a month, I decided to check them out. Their Google reviews were overwhelmingly positive, so I went in with high expectations. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The shio ramen was only $9, but it was smaller than average and was lacking in most regards. The sushi also looked to be priced higher than average. I wanted to try it, so I ordered a small roll and a piece of tomago. Both were good and priced reasonably, but most other sushi was more costly. The dining area seemed acceptably clean, but the washrooms could definitely use some attention. The music was also pretty loud. To be fair, I'd probably give 3.5 stars if I could, but I can't justify 4. They have an extensive menu and cheap beer, and they're open until 2am, so perhaps I'll visit again sometime and can be swayed to a 4.

Justin Wong

I don't usually write comments, but this one restaurant really deserves some real feedback especially during this time where many other restaurants are fighting so hard to survive. Before I go into the food, let's start with the first experience in the restaurant. The young female waitress was probably the worst waitress in any Japanese restaurants I've ever visited. Basically rude, not wearing her mask while serving, clumsy with little sense of hygiene, and the worst is no one working there give a damn about her attitude, and how the customers are being served. The menu has numerous spelling mistakes, and different words are written in two identical menu. Now comes the food, which is exactly like how everything in the restaurant reflected - terrible. A normal tonkatsu that has a fried chewing gum texture was a first. If I can give it a minus star, I would.

Wyatt Lutes

Horrible experience, worst service I have received since moving to Vancouver 8 years ago, here is what happened: We got there, they checked our vaccine passports, everything was going smoothly as with any restaurant. We sat down and waited 10 minutes for menus, the server disappeared after we sat down. After getting the menus, another 10 minutes passed. We finally ordered food and water. Food took 20 minutes, and the water came after the food. I ordered a combo which said it had 8 rolls and 4 nigiris (I wish I remembered the name and regret not taking a picture) and when the food came, onky 4 rolls were there. After asking the server why the menu said 8, he pointed to a picture that looked like it only had 4, then proceeded to tell me it was their mistake in the menu... Then did nothing about it! (The least they could have done is either give the 4 missing rolls, or discounted part of it, since it was their mistake, as the server pointed out) The place was dirty, and freezing. Food was below average. Will never come back here.

G ST

Good food, fast and nice service. Good price.

G T

Surprisingly excellent food at very reasonable prices. The menu is a bit busy, it took a while to pick what we wanted. Good service and nice atmosphere.

Jay Chou

The meat in my ramen was cold!! The nabeyaki udon tasted like they dropped whole can of salt into it. None of the food we ordered taste good. It is not traditional Japanese at all. Will never visit again.

Christine Luo

Food is quite nice with good portions. The problem is they located on the second floor and they don’t have an elevator! If you have a child and a stroller, I don’t recommend this place. A LOT of muscle work!

Nara Rocha

The food was pretty tasty and this is one of the few places that stays open late in the area. I love how much menma they load into the ramen--mmm fiber!

Fredrick Ni

Great sushi and open really late is something I look forward to on a late night

James Olivier

It was a pretty bad experience. Like others have said, the servers were rude and inattentive. No one came to our table once to refill drinks or ask if everything was ok. Food was average but quite overpriced. Regret coming here instead of our original plan. Would not return.

James Neville

Excellent service, very friendly, good tasting dishes & nice value

Steve W

Amazing food

H T

Not good, but at least it's open late

Ghernia Khanoom

This used to be my go to sushi place when I lived beside it and now I miss it dearly honestly my fav sushi place super cheap and the Kara miso ramen is amazing their menu is diverse and has almost everything service kinda sucks for dine in but nothing compares for me anymore now that I’m addicted ????

Carrie Hunter

Fast service

Almas Bana

Wow that's amazing. It's not the first time I eat sushi, but it makes me so surprised. I order the holiday combo, which includes the knights around the table with 8 types of seafood, avocado on rice. It so yummy. I will come back here soon. P/s: their staffs are really friendly.

Melvyn Ing

I love this place, the sushi is really good, and the price is very accessible, I go to this place at least once a week! I have recommended this place to a lot of people and will continue to do so.

Gabriel A.

Everytime I go to Masa the food quality is always the same, delicious! Everytime I try something new from the menu and I always get surprised how good it tastes. Great service as well, the staff is always friendly and they also have good prices.

Steven Fernandes

Slow service but good food and good prices

Eugene Choi

Ordered from Door Dash and had a TERRIBLE Salmon Oshi roll. The salmon in this roll is meant to be lightly seared on top, not cooked all the way through, which it was. Not only that, but the oshi sauce was sickly sweet and very unpleasant as it covered every square inch of this dish. It tasted like straight up sugar and mayonnaise…it seems from reading reviews here others have felt the same! Would not recommend if you’re a huge fan of Salmon Oshi rolls like me.

Karen Sungkarisma

One of the better sushi restaurants around town, especially for late night eats after a night out. Friendly staff, been there many times, and while some have complained about the service, I've never had a problem with the staffing, they've always been friendly, attentive and smiling. Wild salmon is always fresh and tasty.

Joey northstar

The tempura was quite nice! Everything else was quite normal. Service was good and with smiles all around.

Tony S

Amazing! Don't miss out on Masa! Hands down the best, freshest most affordable sushi south of the downtown core. Extremely fast, welcoming.. Everything! Can't recommend enough!

Xiang Li

Delicious and varied sushi menu (contains fried, cooked, raw, spicy and veggie food). You must try their Top 3 sushi combos.

Heeyoung Ahn

The most attractive thing about this location is their hours. The food is quite good, and the presentation is well done each time. They don't offer a lot of combo deal on their sushi. Prepare for a very slow service,. If you are ordering for pick up, give yourself a good 20 -30 min.

Jeremy Freeman

One of my absolute favorites! Masa is consistently excellent. Their menu is extensive and offers some very delicious specialty rolls. I would highly recommend the "Boston Roll"-- it has kiwi slices and they garnish the roll with some balsamic vinaigrette, which is SO underrated on a sushi roll. Got some late night sushi cravings? Masa also has you covered there. They're open until 2 AM! LIKE, WHAT?! Amazing. Thank you Tom and thank you Masa!

Mark Hansford

Still serving the art of great Japanese food and more!

J Peter

It's pretty good sushi. Very large menu with a wide variety of Japanese choices. I found the sushi fresh and their creative rolls are decent. The soups are not as good as a dedicated place would offer.

Peter Couch

5$ sapporo pints!! Tasty fresh sushi, laid back atmosphere with TVs to watch on game nights. Service is good very friendly staff. One of my fave places!

Bo A

This beautiful sushi joint is on a busy street of Granville and Broadway. I used to come by a few years ago when it was under a different name. The new owners put care and love in to their sushi and restaurant. I loved that they are open until late. I was the last customer of the day at 11:35pm and the server was so nice enough to wait for me (I felt awful).. However, the price is a little heavy. The food tasted amazing and what makes Masa so special is that it is CLEAN. Even their take out order is so beautifully laid out, clean and neat. Tasted clean and it was really worth the trip. Portion to price range was a little off.. I normally spend 30 dollars but spent over 50 (was a bit shocked with the price). But I guess Masa is a kind of place you take your special guests to. Worth it though!

Stan Szeto

This place is amazing. Delicious sushi and food in general, very attentive and professional staff. Their prices are so very reasonable, especially for beer! I've never seen lower beer prices.

Reagan Wong

It was a comfort sushi place. The sushi is rolled nicely but the ramen was really bland lol i thought i was still in the uk. The sushi well just okay more like a comfort sushi place. Eat at 9pm-2am there is a selection of cheaper options. Well at least it opens till late so you know where to go when you are hungry at night. Cheers!

Philip Budina

My wife and I are happy for their food and service, worth to try it..

Jon Remedio

Good location, nice seating space but very average food.

biki minhas

Best quality around this area. The interior decorated with Korean traditional art by the owner's mom is sooooo beautiful. Service is also nice. It's my favorite sushi restaurant.

Aman Nijjer

Very good food, reasonably priced, cheap beer, open super late at night, Vancouver needs more restaurants like Masa.

Rabby Mir

The food I ordered was not fully cooked by the time it was served. It seemed like they expected it to cook in my bowl. It did not. And I had chuncks of undercooked noodles throughout my food. The restaurant is weirdly cold. I have no idea why but it felt very uncomfortable. Finally, the staff were very brisk and cold. They seemed to want to get us in and out as soon as possible and were in no way welcoming.

Mauro Sugawara

My favourite sushi place, open until late. Great specialty rolls

Ken Ballard

These guys know whats up when it comes to quality, service and presentation. No doubt one of the best bang for your buck Sushi restaurants on the West Side. A. Fallows

Curious Mind

Masa Japanese Restaurant is located on the corner of Hemlock and West Broadway on the 2nd floor, overlooking the small mini mall below. I fondly remember having our first Japanese restaurant date at a now defunct Japanese restaurant in the same location many moons ago. There’s a good variety of dishes on the menu so we decided to go with the Teriyaki Course lunch special ($12.95) and added an order of Gomaae ($3.50), 3-in-1 Agedashi Tofu ($5.95), and Assorted Sashimi ($19.95). One of the weird things is that they brought out the Teriyaki Course lunch special piecemeal… and not all at the same time. The lunch special comes with miso soup, sunomono, prawn skewer, and 3 side dishes consisting of pickled radish and seaweed. The miso soup and 3 side dishes were the first to arrive at the table and then, over time, additional parts of the meal showed up like the sunomono and then the prawn skewer. The actual entrée was the very last thing to arrive much later on. I would have preferred if the lunch course was brought out all together (or at least close to the same time). The Agedashi Tofu came to the table in between the lunch course and consisted of 3 different preparations: Original Deep Fried Tofu with traditional sauce, Diavolo with hot sauce, and Hawaiian with fruit. The Diavolo (I thought they misspelled this and meant “diablo” which is Spanish for “devil” but apparently “diavolo” is Italian for the same word) seemed to be topped with a Korean-style hot sauce and the Hawaiian was topped with small mango pieces. Overall, I thought the deep-fried tofu needed a bit of work because the exterior of the tofu was too chewy instead of being lightly crisp. The Spinach Gomaae with sesame sauce was the next item to arrive and was pretty good. The Assorted Sashimi was the next dish to arrive to the table and consisted of 4pc salmon, 4pc tuna, 2pc wild salmon, 2pc hokkigai, 2pc tako, and 2pc of either tai or madai (not really sure). Aside from the octopus, which was a bit too chewy, the rest of the sashimi seemed pretty good. The chicken teriyaki finally arrived at the table and was served on top of a bed of shredded cabbage and carrots with a scoop of rice. While the chicken lacked a crispy skin, the chicken itself wasn’t too bad. The sweet teriyaki sauce was slathered over the chicken pieces and went well with the plain white rice. Overall, most of the food dishes were okay but nothing to “wow” you.

Puneet Kaur

Attentive service and creative sushi. Always satisfied.

Mila Edines

We ordered toro sushimi. It had a refrigerator icy taste, which could be easily removed if they do a little prep with salt before serving. The portion for the sashimi was small, the markup profit was huge. For the exact same price, I could get two dishes of delicious fatty tuna at a regular chain restaurant in Tokyo. We ordered miso ramen and kara miso ramen. The miso ramen soup tasted like it was the tap water from the bathroom, and the chashu was hard to chew. The noodles tasted bad because of the broth itself. While the kara miso ramen tasted fine, it was probably because of the spice that covered up the weird broth taste. The yakitori was nothing like what I had while living in Japan. It was just some ordinary chicken that I could make by myself at home.

Sarah Stevenson

Always get take out. The sushi combos in particular are really good value.

Liz K

I love this place. The staff are friendly. The food is good and reasonably priced. Busy with good vibes but not overly crowded.

Faye Ralph

I loved the beef yaki udon it was the best in Vancouver???? Loved the service as well!

cjsomeguy

The price is affordable, the amount of food is great, and the taste is delicious. In person or on request the food is always great, well taken care of, well prepared, excellent customer service and everyone is very polite.

Dragon M

Just opened June 2015 and hopefully the patio will be open soon because the view of the mountains is great (Happy Hour?) Delicious standard rolls and some really good special items too. The fish & chips cone was light and fresh, udon broth tasty, and so was tuna tataki salad. Good Japanese beer draft specials. Going to try the chef's sashimi special next time sitting at the sushi bar...

Matthew Ritchey

Awesome spot for regular and late night dinner. Wide selection of japanese food from sushi to don to ramen. I had shio ramen there with some tuna roll.

D Milburn

The service was friendly, but seemed confused and forgetful. I ordered the vegetable curry, with the udon noodles and "premium" vegetables. I'm not sure what was premium about those veggies. The dish was tasty, but nowhere near the quality I expect for a fifteen dollar meal.

Sarah Westbury

A nice traditional feeling Japanese dinner spot. Great big patio for the summer. Super friendly Japanese and Korean staff. Pretty good rolls and meat dishes in general. Will come back for sure!

Dylan Gray Jones

Food surprisingly good. Quaint decor reflecting all things Japanese, like the booths only you don't take off your shoes. great for groups.

Tamerlana

Tasty sushi, kind servers, and very good portions! The Misu soup is a must-try here!

Reyna Avalon

The food is terrible. We had the wild salmon oshi sushi... Disgusting. It was salmon with mayo and rice baked, not seared. The ebi gyoza was below average. The ramen was basically instant noodles. A very disappointing experience. Would recommend going to a different restaurant.

Thomas Chan

The best Chicken Udon noodle soup I have had in a long time. The soup base is amazing, I could drink this every day, all day.

Jason Tabo

Quite good food but horrible service. First off, people are sleeping on the benches in each of the tatami rooms. The restaurant was empty but the waitress had no interest in acknowledging us or bringing tea or water. I needed to ask for tea and water repeatedly. Sushi came for all of us at different times. No refill of tea. If you don't like your job, don't work. I've been there a few times and always same lousy service from same waitress - there are two. The younger woman is very pleasant but unfortunately isn't the one who is the waitress.

Karen C

Pretty good, service is kinda slow during the visit, but not bad.

Adam Fong

Salmon teriyaki and tempura and currie beef delicious. Artwork and eggs artwork beautiful very lovely Grandmother is prolific and talented. Charming!

Olivier Gagnon

Great late night sushi restaurant

Bill McGowan

This is still a great place for sushi, but unfortunately they no longer do all you can eat.

Lucy Canning

Friendly well priced place. Long room with comfortable sized partitions and good decor. Good traffic of people but we did not have to wait to get a seat. Japanese cooks and staff. That helps right? Food was good rather than exceptional. But good value for money.

AL CH

Amazing staff, great quality, nice presentation, very fair prices, beautiful interior, 10/10

Kirat Narang

Love this place. Masa is our go to for reliable, quality sushi that's consistent and fairly priced. We always do take out, but the dining room looks cozy. We order from them 2-3 times a month. Highly recommended.

YCN

Masa can be a great spot for your standard Vancouver sushi experience. The food doesn't really knock it out of the park, but there is hardly ever a line as it's a big restaurant and they are open late. The staff are always friendly and kind, although on more than one occasion they seem understaffed.

Evie Dreamer

The worst experience ever, the waitress she was EXTREMELY RULE by the moment we walk in the restaurant. She was literally throw the soup on the table and it spilled everywhere, get on my dress and all over the place. He hated her job. did not apologize for it. Gave us an attitude the whole time. No manager there to talk to. Not recommended for anyone to come visit this place. I will never come back again.

Great sushi and Asian curry place. Fast service and friendly staff. Great beer specials!

Trudy Sandland

Very friendly customer service and good food. Will come back!

Goal Callin

staff and chefs are really friendly. the food is decent and so are the prices.

Andrew Powell

Very quiet place and serves great food!

Ash1606 L

Good price and good options for lunch. Very friendly staff, good service. Love it the sunomono salad.

Cranston Ha

Been coming to this sushi place since the 90s when kits was next door. New owners now place looks very nice inside and the food is better than ever.

mike rivers

Wide variety of selection, from sushi to sashimi to donburi to curry. We ordered the devil kiss, which I highly recommend. It's deep fried lobster and the sushi had lobster, can, and this delicious semi spicy sauce. We also got assorted katsu curry, which had fried shrimp, fried sweet potato, and tonkatsu. Our last dish was a Boston roll, which had raw tuna, avocado, and a slice of kiwi on top. The flavors were good. The service was excellent. They were very attentive and checked up on us often. We drank a lot of tea but they refilled out chip multiple times with a smile on their faces. The environment is very relaxing. Each table is a booth. Very quiet and serene feeling with the Japanese decorations and semi private tables. Highly recommend!

Jocelyn Lee

Got oshi sushi for delivery. Horrendous quality. Lots of rice like Thai places with a small thick baked fish. This place cannot make Japanese cuisine. Do not recommend.

Hani Dawood

Unreal sushi! This is the number one stop. They have the best employees and the Fabergé Eggs are made by the owner's mom.
