This Restaurant belongs to the category of French restaurant.
I was there with my boyfriend and this is our second time been there, food was great and our server provides a excellent sevices. We are sure we will be back again.
Dinner
Nice environment for special occasions. Food was great. Service was great, the waitress was very nice and gave us free tart after our dinner. Will definitely visit again!
We had a wonderful dinner! Excellent service !
this was our 40th wedding anniversary and there was no question where we would enjoy the finest menu and quality service..from the moment we entered this very special restaurant , we had 100 % acknowledgement that our every moment there would be the special event we expected.. each portion of our dinner was exceptional and the staff were present but not intrusive, which allowed us to totally relax and enjoy the experience fully
Fancy, tasty food. Decor is still from the 90's. Eating there kind of reminds me of being in a sitcom.
The menu including the wine selection plus the service are good unmatched for French dining in all of Canada.
Best French Food in Vancouver!!! The sommelier was amazing, with excellent recommandations. We loved the Foie Gras Crème Brûlée et les asperges blanches au crabe, the bone marrow was also delicious... Everything was so good and service was also amazing.
Love it , luxury French place for meal, a lot of choices for French wine as well, fabulous service
Bland tasteless food, never had halibut so poorly cooked. Very disappointed.
Unbelievable experience and overall amazing food, drinks and dessert. Would highly recommend
Went there for my birthday dinner. The appetizer was very good, worth trying for sure. However, the main dish wasn't very impressive. The service was good. Worth visiting again.
Used to be a great restaurant with amazing food and service. Unfortunately, it’s no longer the case. Food was terrible. We have been going to the Crocodile for every special occasion for years, it started with dating anniversary, wedding anniversary later on, my birthday.. anyway, it was our favourite place to go for a special evening. However, the experience we had today was close to a very cheap food joint, honestly. We made a reservation two months in advance (again, special occasion), we specifically asked if it would be ok for small children as we had two young kids (under 14months) in a group. We call a day before to confirm the reservation to make sure it’s all good. Then we arrive to find out that they don’t have high chairs. Couldn’t they mention it over the phone two months ago or yesterday??! Now imagine what’s supposed to be a fine dinning experience with a toddler on your lap. Exactly. Besides, it took forever for the kitchen to prepare our meals. My husband didn’t even have time to eat his dinner. The food used to be so flavourful: you take first bite with one flavour and after a moment another flavour opens up.. like truly magical dining experience.. now you get a sloppy looking plate of super SALTY whatever with no flavour at all! There were a few other minor things that just added up like staff not able to understand the menu item in French language although it’s actually written in French.. new manager who is afraid to make a move (to solve a problem) because he just got hired.. bye-bye, the Crocodile.
Omg! Amazing. Gorgeous French cuisine, fantastic service, absolutely affordable for a special night out, and the serving sizes are almost too much. I love the space and location too, lots of parking right beside the building. Full review on my blog. Check out the images to whet your appetite ????
Le Crocodile has been around forever and has stood the test of time for a reason. Have been here many times before and I like that the ambiance is nice and service is warm, friendly and efficient. The duck confit and arctic char mains which we had this time were both cooked well and very delicious.
Great food and impeccable service. Took my girl for a birthday dinner. Had a great time.
This is my second time going here and I am very impressed. The second time I got entirely different menu items and they were all incredible. I highly recommend the mushroom soup, lobster tempura, the salmon and the profiteroles! Also the service is next level. Do yourself a favor and eat here!
Another one of my all time favourite restaurants in Vancouver. They cook french food so well and captures the essence of being in France. Thei lobster thermidor is the best deal all around. Their duck confit is amazing. And their seasonal dishes never fail if you want to be surprised and try something new. They also give you little samplers throughout the meal, and always ends with their famous crocodile shaped chocolates.
Meal type
Decadent French food in a cozy atmosphere. Very indulgent but delicious and fresh. The service is fantastic.
Service and ambience was amazing at Le Crocodile. One of the most enjoyable (and expensive!) dinners I've ever had! It took nearly three hours for the whole affair—with an appetizer, entree, and dessert + complementary food! You could definitely get away with just ordering an entree because there was a complementary appetizer and dessert. Overall, the food was good! Nothing I would necessarily rave about, but that may be because what I ordered isn't my usual taste. My favourite dish was the apple tart dessert I had. Would like to go back one day to try other items on the menu!
Delicious food! We had the table d'hote and each of the dishes was superb, including a caribou steak that was on par with the best filet mignon I've ever tasted. The service was excellent, though you could feel some tension in the air among the staff.
The ambience is great, makes you feel like in the real French restaurant. Nice service. But the food is not so good. We've tried half of the menu including degustation courses - faugras was extremely greasy, same for lamb and duck. Snails were tasty. Fish ok. Good souses. Good wine. Would not really go again.
The food was good but I found the dishes to be very butter but in a bad way. The ambiance is super nice!
After hearing nothing but fantastic reviews of this place I excitedly decided to go for my birthday. I arrived for my reservation and to my surprise I walked into a very brightly lit place, that was INSANELY loud! Like sports bar type levels. We tried to order food, but we could hardly hear the server talk and I couldn't even hear to the person sitting right beside me. After waiting forever for our food it finally arrives and by this point I have a headache from the noise level so we ask to be moved to the patio where it was quieter. They have no tables. Then we let our server know that we cannot handle the noise level anymore and want to leave. At this point she sends over the manager who without introducing himself rudely asks if we wanted to sit in the corner at the back (still exactly same noise level). Obviously at this point we turn that down because enough is enough. We wanted to leave. They pack our food up and give up the bill. THE FULL BILL! Nothing was comped (not even the drinks that got wasted because we had to leave). So we had to pay full price for a terrible experience and now cold food. If I could give this place less than one star I would. This ruined my night and I will never be coming back here or recommending this place to anyone. This place was so loud that my ears were ringing which is completely unacceptable for a reputable place like this and a place that charges $40+ per plate. This is not fine dining, this is a joke. Go somewhere else (anywhere else), you'll have a better time.
We ordered a 10-course meal and the food was excellent. However, we are fast eater so need to wait between dishes. Total meal time was 3 hours.
My wife's a Chef and this is her favorite restaurant in Vancouver. Many Chefs we know go there for a beautiful meal that tantalize's their taste buds. It's a very special restaurant and we are Lucky to have it in Vancouver. Chef Michel is a true Master Chef.
Service is amazing, food is even more amazing, all in all the dining experience here was perfect.
My first experience would have been 5 stars. This experience was sub par. First experience had a palate cleanser after each course. Today's dinner had to try so hard to flag the server to order desert. The food was nicely presented. However the halibut, a seasonal item on the menu - was dry
I go here almost every year for birthday dinner (unless I leave it too late to get a reservation. Damn December birthdays!). The food is always exquisite, and the chef is very good at accommodating dietary restrictions. Their passionfruit creme brulee is the best in town, and their creme caramel is also amazing. I can never decide between the two, so I always order two desserts. it'd just THAT good.
We live in Seattle and visit Vancouver every once in a while. This is still one of our favorite places we also want to return to and enjoy a meal. The experience from entrance to departure is top-notch. The food is so delicious and we love the chocolate crocodiles they serve at the end of your meal!
I went to this restaurant during the Vancouver's Dine Out. I had the best dining experience here since I got to Vancouver a year ago. Every dish served was impeccable, and the service was beyond most restaurants I've been to. I can't wait to return to this restaurant. They were also very accommodating for my gluten intolerance.
Oysters and Escargot for starters. The Lamb Rack and Duck Breast for Mains. Everything was really good. Service was amazing. Decent wine selection.
Great food. Thanks for providing a romantic dinner for our anniversary.
Amazing food and excellent service!
Fabulous food, amazing service, expensive but worth it!
Ate here long time ago but this is totally recommended and deserve a 5 stars
Awesome food, awesome service. Can't get any better!

My husband and I had Christmas Eve lunch for probably the 15th year in a row this year. The restaurant accommodated us with a lovely table outside, which made us comfortable in the C-19 environment. Our server, Frederick, was exemplary and the cuisine outstanding in every respect. The maitre d' came outside to tell us that our reservation for 2021 was already secured. We are already looking forward to it! Janis Connolly
Love it! Very authentic food and amazing service. Nice environment too!
Our server Pierre is the BEST! He took time to introduce all the specials and answers questions. All the dishes were excellent!
The best restaurant in Vancouver - there is no doubt in my mind - every course is sumptuous, the flavours are amazing - my friends and I go here regularly - also they are very covid safe and conscious but it has not affected their service or cuisine. The Dover Sole was out of this world, the appetisers as well - we had a selection - each one was an assortment of amazing flavours. A real treat.
I caught them on a bad day once last month so I don't want to say too much about it normally their food is excellent and that's why I go there there's service needs to improve
They’re very good at what they do. They come to you at the exact moment you’re running out of something or when you put down your cutley to signal you’re done. Prices are definitely on the high-end side, but every dollar is worth it because of the crazy amount of dedication these servers put in to recite what seems like more than 10 daily specials and look over every minor detail. All the complimentary dishes they regularly offer (cauliflower tart, hickory sticks, pear sorbet) definitely give them an advantage over their competitors. I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion, certainly if you have a hunger for some European French.
Very tastful dishes and good service, but a bit noisy.

This Restaurant called on Tuesday night - at 11:30 pm - to cancel our reservation on Thursday night for a group of 16. The confirmed reservation was made a month prior. Very disrespectful. Very embarrassing to explain to our guests. Don't take a chance! West Restaurant was able to accommodate on short notice.
Excellent restaurant with exceptional service, beautiful presentation and very enjoyable food
Been there twice. First time experience was good. We two ordered the course. The food was generally good and service was great. foie gras was amazing, lobster tasted well, while the steak can be better for the price. Generally speaking it was a good dining experience Later I went there with three other friends and this time the experience was abysmal. We were asked what we want to drink and we chose water. The waiter then asked us hot or cold and then we chose hot. It turns out to be a really "fancy" hot water as it comes with a small pot of honey, which at last ended up as $18 on our bill ($4.5 / person). I would prefer to be told about how pricy the hot water could be before being over-charged for sure. What really messed up my experience was the lamb shank I ordered. It was a huge chunk of meat with no lamb or any other flavor. I finished about 30% of it and asked whether my friends want to take some, but they all rejected after trying it...
Amazing food, and an all around great experience. This is my go-to for special celebratory occasion
Excellent. The service was amazing and the food was spectacular. Even the presentation of all the dishes was phenomenal. I was out with a table of 8 and the service was fantastic he whole time. Our wine glasses and water glasses never went dry. The chef came out to say hello and to make sure everything was great as well. Even at the end of our meal we received a chocolate crocodile. The chocolate was made by a local company ‘Daniel le Choloat Belge’. A local Belgium chocolate company that specializes in all natural chocolate. I recommend both this restaurant and the chocolate shop if you’ve never been.
Fantastic, again. We always go here when visiting Vancouver. The food was exquisite, the wine list has a great range of wines including some brilliant wines from my favorite area, the Alsace region. Pierre was the consummate professional and made our visit enjoyable and amusing, great guy.
Dinner
Food is great, I take my wife here for her bday every year
Service
I certainly enjoy their food and customer service, awesome location next to my residence. The employees are always kind. Will come visit again.
A real treat. Usually here for lunch, usually specials off the menu albeit not cheap nor too expensive but for sure $25 easy. Comes with complimentary quiche & sorbet. Lobster bisque & mussels clams are delicious.
It's not the first time I've been to Le Crocodile but last night's dining experience has left me wondering if I would ever return. Last night was cold and raining in Vancouver and even thought we used their valet service we were still pretty cold and just want some hot water. The waiter advised us that there will be a charge and we said that's okay (Now... can I ask you guys what you think a reasonable charge is for hot water? We were thinking... around $2 each, maybe $3?) Then we continued to order, we ordered 8 dishes between the 3 of us and I decided that I would split the Lobster bisque, "there will be a fee for that" said our waiter. Fair enough, I've had milestone charge me for this, so I expect this from a high end restaurant. Finally after dessert we ordered a tea and asked for a bill. $4.50 FOR WATER PER PERSON... Which I must emphasize, was the SAME PRICE AS THE TEA. I would have must rather paid for tea during my entire meal. $6.50 for SPLITTING my soup, we did not get anymore than we usually would but it was separated in two bowls (To give you an idea, the Bisque was $14.50 and our Tomato soup was $9.50- I might as well had ordered another soup) Trust me, we're not a stingy family and if we have chosen to go to that restaurant we knew what prices our bill would look like, but i just CANNOT wrap my head around the price of hot water being equivalent to the price of tea and charging me almost HALF the price of my bisque just so it comes in two separate bowls. And honestly, the food isn't that great, I would say it's average and you're just paying for the ambiance and their name.
Meal type
We had the most beautiful dinner there last night. Pierre and the entire team could not have been kinder or more attentive to our group’s needs. Truly exceptional!
Our party of 4 had an unpleasant evening evening at Le Crocodile. The service was terrible. Our server was strangely aggressive and robotic, almost confrontational when asking for asking for orders. He would abruptly interrupt conversation and ask for orders, deliver menus, or recite specials etc.. Menus were absent for a long period, and then when delivered, sort of thrust out past faces reaching across. Plates were delivered in a similar style, all from 1 corner of the table, reaching way across. French service is supposed to cover all the small details. You shouldn’t lack menus when you need them or have to lean away from the servers arm in your face so he can deliver a plate to the other side of the table. But small stuff like this is easily ignored when things are generally going well. The Old Fashioned was topped off with quite a bit of water. This is definitely not the standard for this cocktail. The food was hit and miss. The escargot was served in so, so much oil, and had little flavour, the special goat cheese appetizer was incredible salty. Servers did not follow up with the courses and ask how it was going. You did not feel taken care of. Apple Galette was undercooked. The sommelier guided us to a wine that was quite flat, lacked really any characteristics you would hope for with an expensive bottle of French wine. Main courses were ok, plates went unfinished, same with dessert, serviceable, but nothing special, plates went un finished. Even the signature chocolate crocodiles that come out with the bill weren’t great, and went half eaten. I did not ask for the bill and was surprised the way it was thrust onto the table (its 10:15pm, the place was still pretty full, but no one is waiting for this table) Generally I was quite disappointed. I left $50 on a $500 bill. I sort of expected some unhappy faces from the staff. But we certainly weren’t happy, so it seemed fair. But here is what was totally unacceptable, and the only reason I am writing this review. While I was gathering my things my wife went to the front to get her coat, and was confronted by the maître’d. “How was the service tonight” she answered it was ok, fine, etc. (It’s the end of a pretty mediocre birthday dinner, she just wants her coat and to get going). As the maitre’d was walking away he continued, “It’s just that the tip was quite low” Now he is gone and she fills me in, Ive got to track the guy down and confront him about being rude to my wife, which he denied over and over and tried to play off as a misunderstanding. But I’m going to trust my wife, he said what he said. Not a good birthday dinner to say the least. A not good waiter, and not good food aren’t the end of the world. I dont take the time to write reviews on that stuff. But the rudeness, and the sense of entitlement in this restaurant is off the charts.
Excellent place and there is a reason why it is one of Vancouver's fav. While pricey it is good value. A place for special occasions if like most people. Portions are fine and you do not leave hungry. Without hesitation I would recommend this place
Prime rib was huge but relatively bland, service was absolutely amazing and chef sent over special extra dishes
Very impolite and unprofessional treatment from the manager, after splitting a half bottle of red wine to my friend's white shirt. That ended up spoiling the whole night and the nice meal (the 6th of April).
Excellent food, service a bit slow for a Tuesday
Outstanding French restaurant in downtown Vancouver for superb food and service be a step ahead make reservation.
Probably the best meal I've ever had. Good drinks and food. Waiters were great. For the quality of the food, the price is a steal.
Great experience tonight with everything! The bone marrow and the foie gras were excellent. Lamb and caribou were very good too.
Incredible food, amazing service. Highly recommend.
Food is decent and wine selection relatively good by Vancouver standard. Price is reasonable and service is exceptional. We are especially impressed by our waitress who can recite the lengthy daily specials. Ambience is comfortable. One point to notice is that the entrance is not at Burrard Street but at the back of IGA shop.
Eating my way around Vancouver and this is a favourite. Thank you max for the recommendations. Definitely try the tartare.
Came here for my significant other and I's 4 year anniversary. Overall, we thought the food was excellent but felt the service was lacklustre. We've both never been to a restaurant where we felt rushed by the waiter to finish our meals and leave. I had made dinner reservations at 6 PM and was told that they would need the table back by 8 PM. No problem there - I thought that 2 hours for dinner would probably more than enough time. However, this was not the case. The restaurant was quite busy (which should not an excuse for an establishment like this) and it took our server about 15-20 minutes to finally take our order. By the time we completed our appetizers and were served our entrees - it was 7:05 PM. As my significant other and I were starting to enjoy our meals our server abruptly came by and ask "Are you going to order dessert? It's almost 7:30 and you only have this table until 8 pm" We both said "sure" and didn't really think too much of it. Then, shortly after the server came by again and asked the same question - "Are you going to order dessert?". We had already told him we were so at this point I was a bit annoyed. Let me remind you that it was our anniversary and were trying to enjoy a nice dinner only to be interrupted by the server and pushing us to hurry up. So we ended up placing our dessert order. Shortly after the server came back to us asking "4 year anniversary right?" to which we said "Yes". At this point we were both excited and expecting a dessert with "Happy 4 Year Anniversary" on the plate. Otherwise why else would he have asked? 5 minutes later our dessert comes with no writing but whipped cream and a measly candle on top. Nothing special. We've been to plenty of other restaurants to celebrate our anniversary and have always ordered dessert where the restaurant would write "Happy Anniversary." To see the dessert come with just a candle was a bit sad and effortless on their end. It felt like they just wanted to give us the dessert as quickly as possible so we could leave. Finally, by the time we were eating our dessert, I couldn't help but be fixated on time since the entire second half of our dining experience was us being rushed by our waiter. Overall, excellent food, but fairly poor dining experience.
Excellent food, healthy portions, reasonable prices. Very cozy comfortable atmosphere.
A consistently authentic and world-class dining experience. I've been going to Le Crocodile for decades - and while the Chef's menus celebrate his signature dishes; fresh local and unique dishes appear as features in season. The service is polished and efficient, wine list extensive and interesting; and the overall experience is on a standard with some of the best French (Alsatian) restaurants in London, Paris and New York. Sitting on the outdoor terrace in summer is a treat. I look forward to the restaurant re-opening for lunch in the fall.
What an amazing experience. The restaurant is set in the French Bistro style. Absolutely our favorite restaurant in Vancouver so far. We could have not asked for better service. It's amazing how busy the staff are and how quickly they move about the restaurant but when they approch the table it's like you are the only guest in the room. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and could easily recommend and wine pairing. The food was outstanding our favourites were the New Zealand Venison or the Braised Veal Cheeks.
One the top premier restaurants in Vancouver for a romantic dinner.
Dinner
Amazing food and service. Highly recommend this place for a great dining experience.
Very mediocre food for very high price. I got their special And it was a pasta with fish and tempura lobster and it was not what I was expecting at all. Of you've had food in a good French restaurant you would not like this restaurant at all. Service is just ok but don't go with their recommendations if you went to this "French" restaurant.
Lunch
My favourite restaurant in Vancouver! Delicious, perfect food... With wonderful, attentive service.
Still the standard for French establishments in the city, all aspects of service are refined and welcoming. The technique and execution of food is wonderful, you would be hard pressed to find something comparable in the city for classic European French cuisine.
We had a delicious birthday lunch. Very covid friendly and we felt safe. We will return. The beef wellington was superb. Everything was!
The duck and the creme brulee was amazing
Amazing French cuisine and wonderful staff. Never disappointed and a Vancouver favorite for sure.
Excellent service and very high quality food, excellent presentation
An amazing and rich experience. Excellent service and 30 years of incredible cuisine.
The food is amazing. I'm not much of a fish person but the sablefish was brilliant. The place is definitely expensive but great for a nice fancy dinner night.
Classy but cozy. Best halibut I ever had. Service friendly. Given little treats for starters, desserts. Chocolate crocodiles!
This is a fine dining restaurant, so there's valet if you choose and coat check. Parking is a little difficult DT. Amazing and attentive service. Almost the food wowed our family. All of the special appetizers were incredibly tasty. They gave each of us a "shot" of sour vegetable and herb mix to start before eating the menu food. My favourite was the pork bone marrow, which you can spread onto thin bread slices. The only dish we thought was average was the halibut (parents found it a little dry and overdone) but the pasta, caribou meat, lingcod, and fois gras were all very good. I had a duck breast and fois gras. After we ordered dessert, they gave us a tiny scoop of Grapefruit sorbet soaked in bit of vodka, said to help change the palet. Out of all the dessert, the Pear Tarte was the best. The Tiramisu was very cute looking, but didn't have very strong coffee taste. Of course ended with their signature crocodile chocolates in milk and dark variety.
Great quality cuisine, consistent for many years. Recent service quality is not as good as in previous years. Still the food is fantastic and often very busy. Would be 5 stars if service was back to the way it was.
The best food I've had in Vancouver. Service is great and the flavor of the food is wonderful, I recommend the chicken breast with risotto and the beef tartar.
We dined at Le Crocodile on Friday, October 15th and have dined at the restaurant on previous occasions. The food and the service have never disappointed. However, we were disappointed on Friday. I had called a month before to book a specific table for a milestone birthday celebration. I booked the first seating at 5:30 and explained why I requested a particular table, there would be a toddler at our table and this particular table would suit a toddler as well as act as a buffer for the other diners if the noise level escalated. A note was made on our reservation. I called a week before to add one more guest and again an hour before our arrival to confirm the reservation. When we arrived we were shown to another table, which was not set for the number in our party. When questioned about my request, the hostess explained that seating could not be guaranteed, however the next time we dined at the restaurant, she promised us our requested table. It made me think that if you can make such a promise, why was my request not honored? Shortly after we were seated, a group of 8 were seated at the table I had requested. The eight individuals could have been just as easily accomodated at the table at which we were seated. Unfortunately, this incident tainted our experience that evening.
One of the best french restaurant in town. If you have any special occasions you wish to celebrate with your partner, Le Crocodile definitely is on the list. Food and service is amazing, they have good wine selection to pair with your food. A picture is worth a thousand words. It is expensive, but definitely worth it.
Me and my friend came for dinner the other night! We walked into the place and met the lovely Anastasia, she was so kind and shared some funny stories with us which made us feel like home! Then we went on to be served by the amazing Holly, we couldn't of asked for a better server. We have never tried French food and she walked us through EVERYTHING we wanted to know without hesitation. She took her time with us while maintaining a full section and she made our experience so pleasant. Twas also my first experience having my server meet me at the door to take photos for us AND to help me with putting on my coat! We were blown away! Thank you Holly and Anastasia????
Not many people during before noon hours, professional and excellent service, employees speak French, clean eating environment. Great choice of food.
Just WOW! Escargots were not the best ones I have ever had, but the creme brulee was phenomenal and the veal with mushrooms to die for!
Everything about the restaurant was fine tuned, glad they are following Covid-19 Health & Safety Guidelines, my only concern would be of the evening of Wednesday October 20th, at the other side of the restaurant there were a couple of patrons talking & laughing so loud, no doubt without face masks, likely they were between courses, though with recent data one must realize that “saliva travels some 6’ when people give exhalations that require more energy”, like singing or screaming, the droplets they emit can travel beyond to a distance of six feet. Well you can Google it as I have. The cadence of their conversation was so over powering that we had a hard time hearing each other at our own table, we did let some of the servers know or to be aware of. Other than that serious concern, the food was magnifique, the ambiance was precise, the 65th birthday is to be remembered but please keep it down, Covid-19 is not over yet, let’s not ruin these privileges. Thank you for listening.
Great service! Great food!! I enjoyed very much!!! 5 star all the way!!!????
best french food in town, wonderful service, wonderful ambiance, amazing food. yes it's pretty expensive, but to be expected.
High quality, excellent menu and superb service, easily one of the best in Vancouver
Top notch food, and service. Great place for a perfect and special evening. I know it's a 5 star french restaurant and I knew this going in, but our tea to end things off left things on a bit of a sour note. $9 for a simple Higgins & Burke tea is a bit much, no?
Best steak tartar. Very busy restaurant. Must book
The best restaurant in Vancouver!!! Close your eyes and choose ANY food and you will be amazed!! Excellent service too!!
Love the restaurant best
Wonderful food! We really enjoyed our meal.
Food and service top notch.. amazing.. the mushroom soup is killer.. such a nice texture and taste.. everything was great and loved every bit of it
Fantastic French cuisine, incredible wine, great atmosphere. 10/10 fine dining experience!
Fine dining at it's best. Reasonable priced. Went there for lunch. Great service too.
Dropped by for lunch with family. Food is still good despite having gotten worse over the last few years. Waiters still condescending towards unfamiliar faces? Check.
One word...AMAZING. Decided to take the wify here after a vigorous search for the best date night restaurant and it has set a bar that I don't think any other restaurant can compare to. Not knowing anything about you, from the moment you walk in, you will be greeted and treated like royalty and the food will blow your mind. I've been to my fair share of fancy restaurants and trust me when I say this, endulge yourselves because you deserve it.
A traditional French restaurant with some modern twist. Food is delicately prepared and very tasty. A must try.
Superb food and even better service! Thank you Michel and your entire team! We will be coming back for years!
The food was incredible! The servers and hostess were very pleasant and friendly. However, they didn't check for anyone's proof of vaccination and the tables were definitely not spaced apart in a covid safe manner. Had covid not been a concern, I'd definitely give Le Crocodile five stars.
I was pretty impressed at the excellent customer service they provided and the food was overall high quality. The plating looked polished as well. The chocolate crocodiles looked so cute as well.
I certainly recommend as the food was perfect, service was one of the best in Vancouver as they were very helpful, friendly and efficient.
Exceptional surprise and experience in le crocodile: Traditional French cuisine with a Twist. Enjoyed the Great ambiance, classy service, extensive selection of mouth watering dishes to suit every tastes with very reasonable $$ can’t ask for more! 6 of us went for lunch, when it’s less busy and have more time to try and share, my #1 dish: seared foie gras, next are all great, lobster bisque, escargot with edible parry shells, lamb chops, local cod fish, truffle omelette! All great, Will be back to try more when we visit Vancouver next time!
Meal type
Great service, amazing food. Pricey but definitely worth it! Had a great night with friends visiting from overseas.
This is THE restaurant to hit in Vancouver if you truly love your significant other. Ask for Pierre as your server - french from France and the gold standard in servicing customers.
Love the tasting menu. Great for special occasions.
Quick Summary Very solid French restaurant and highly recommend to get reservations. The grilled tiger prawns with angel hair pasta was the most memorable dish. Service can be a bit slow, but it seemed intentional in this romantic environment, so prepare for a 2.5-3 hour meal if you come for dinner Food- 5 stars- everything was solid, so I recommend just ordering the foods you like. As stated above, the grilled tiger prawns were divine with that lobster velouté and Pernod Onion tort- this was off their specials of the night. It was pretty good Foie gras tasting- very good as well. Pretty large portion so make sure you have at least 4 people to share with Beef wellington- this was off their specials of the night. It was very good, but not the highlight of the night Grilled tiger prawns- this was spectacular. The lobster velouté worked so well with the angel hair pasta. I could've eaten plate after plate of this dish Service- 5 stars The servers were very accommodating, but do expect a 2.5-3 hour dinner. It seems they intentionally want this to be a long, romantic experience Bottom Line Very solid French restaurant. I can see myself coming here for date nights or in group settings, but probably not as a tourist due to the long service
Best French restaurant in Vancouver. Excellent service, everybody were very attentive and super friendly especially Pierre - he made my daughter’s birthday the best night ever :) And the food OMG - definitely Michelin Star quality.
Fantastic overall experience with delicious food and welcoming house staff. Highly recommended!
Their chef never disappoints. Their caribou special at medium rare cooked to perfection :)
friendly staff, affordable price

Its one of the best. Trust your waiter. Food is well prepared. Its not cheap, but the money is well worth the service and food. Choice is excellent. Company is delightful. Do yourself a favor and dress nicely. We have eaten there twice now and each time we have had nothing but wonderful experience. Also, one of the few places to try absynthe the way its supposed to be had.

Food are just fine, service so POOL. Don't worth the price!????
Always a great dining experience! My husband and I will always come back. Excellent service and excellent food quality every time. Great place to celebrate anniversaries or birthdays. My husband is vegetarian and there’s not a lot of vegetarian options on their menu so they create him his own pasta dish or something else if he asks. So lovely.
Overrated, sloppy service and very poor timing. The ingredients are superior but the service and attention to detail wasn't there for the so called category tier1 restaurant in town. Let's say that if you order some "pommes frites" you get decent ones... The beef was superior and the crab on my salad too. Waiting too long for in between dishes and as I said sloppy and poor timed service. Disappointed, not to be back.
Delicious food and incredible service every time. One of my favourite places in Vancouver!
Amazing experience here. The food is so good and the service is amazing. Highly recommend this spot!
Took my girlfriend here for 1 year anniversary and the service was impeccable. Thanks!
It was an awesome anniversary dinner!!!
Awesome food, great service. No rush dinning experience.
As beautiful as always after many years!!! Love everything they offer! Services, food, location...etc
Good service , friendly staff. Food was very tasty but a little salty for my palette. I brought my little one as well but unfortunately, they didn't have a highchair or booster seat. Overall , good experience!
French food with a Pacific Northwest style. Interesting selected wine. Delicious caribou tenderloin. Pretty room with a warm bistro atmosphere. great place to be if you have deep pockets but worth every penny. valet parking was very convenient
This is quite possibly the best resturant in Canada. They should have Michelin stars.
Dine in
not a place that one would expect to get food poisoning from their sablefish
Moving from Bangladesh growing up in culture of indian food culture had no idea about french food but my movie watching and exploring food and culture around the world introduced me to Julia Child ....since I got to know her I was fascinated and curious how Beef Bourguignon would taste like ....in my mind it would be close to nihari Indian beef stew cooked over night ... last night finally I was at the best restaurant in Vancouver and I was in food comma after having my dinner ....not only it was just magic but it was tender love and my respect for Julia is even more now ....Le Crocodile is my top recommendation restaurant a must for foodie and someone who appreciates taste and culture of fine dinning.
My favourite restaurant in the city. The specials are always exciting and worth trying, like their chanterelle mushroom tart - beautiful chanterelles in a rich sauce on flaky French pastry. For mains, I recommend the halibut and lobster tempura with tagliatelle and the Haida Gwaii scallops - the seafood is so perfectly cooked. One of the defining features is the service - the staff are fantastic at what they do. The style of service is classic French and, while maintaining traditional, they are warm and just a little bit cheeky. There’s nothing quite like Le Crocodile in the city!
Expensive, yet the food is like nothing you may taste elsewhere. Worth it.
Make sure to reserve in advance. Don't worry about being rushed out after closing hours listed, they stay open much later depending on how many customers in store. Long heritage and homely/cozy interior. If you'd like a quiet, modern, roomy setting this place not for you. The seating is a bit cramped as restarunt is very busy Wide array of dishes to choose from. Taste is their winning factor. Few of the authentic taste French eateries in Van.
Food is delicious and authentic. Service is A+
My favorite French restaurant, visitor must come.
Such delicious food for such a reasonable price. Service is amazing! Went one time and there was a couple birthdays going on. It got to a point where the whole restaurant was just singing together (was a very happy time). The chef also sometimes come out to talk to customers and he is super friendly. I recommend this place!
French fine dining at its best. Superb food and great service. One of the best restaurants in the city.
Decent prices considering it's a higher end restaurant.
Came on a Saturday night with a reservation had to wait 25 mins for the table to be ready. The French wanna be receptionist not only did not feel apologetic but gave an attitude. The food was genuinely mediocre at least for people who have travelled and tasted French cuisine in many other places. It was honestly overpriced or hyped for no reason.
Best food in Vancouver. Service was super friendly but quite slow. Still worth a visit though.
We had dinner at Le Crocodile last night. Glad we made reservation well in advance as the restaurant was full. The service was understanbly slow at the beginning as our server had to take care of a big table next to us. They did apologize for the delay and thanked us for our patience. We each ordered one appetizer and one entree. The foods, as always, were consistent and tasted good overall. The lobster tempura and scallops as well as the Dungeness crabcake appetizers were both amazing. The steak could use a tad more seasoning but the sauce complemented it well.
Quite simply, the best restaurant in Canada. The standard is so far beyond anything you'll find anywhere else. Michel Jacob is chefing royalty for a reason: His attention to detail is incomparable and he hires highly competent always capable staff. The food is as good as you'll find on any of the finest tables in France. A total privilege to be a customer for over twenty years. Salut mes amis!
Due to a vehicle problem I was inadvertently delayed in Vancouver. I have been here many times and have some favorite places to dine. I have not been into dining out properly, especially with my wife away. On a whim I decided to try Le Crocodile due to their peaceful location in a very busy part of town. Although well rated, this restaurant has not been written up in any of my go to sources. What an amazing surprise. Tonight was the best meal I have ever had in Vancouver. I consider this to be one of the better food cities in North America. Honestly, the meal tonight, for me, rivaled many Michelin star restaurants I have dined at in Europe. I was impressed by the traditional, but not stagnant, menu. There are places in Vancouver, right now, getting a lot attention that do not come close to the fine detail and subtle complexity of the cooking here. Just as important, the service was friendly but entirely properly professional. I honestly cannot remember the last time that service has been so on point. If you are looking for the trendiest spot, and I enjoy those actually at times, this is not it. However, if you want a balanced beautiful experience do try Le Crocodile, if you have the opportunity.
Upscale restaurant. Food was really well made. A great selection of wine. Knowledgeable staff members. Excellent service.
exceptional-- easily the best restaurant in Vancouver
Tip top. Best French Restaurant in Vancouver. Period.
I reserved a table and added a note to the restaurant about my wife’s birthday celebration. To my disappointment the restaurant did nothing. I’m not blaming the server but whoever received my reservation request dropped the ball this time.
Excellent food and service. Make sure you're dressed to impress!
A truly great experience. We've been here twice now and both times the food was excellent, and the service was competent and quick without being intrusive; a rare combination.
Service
Old school but wonderful. Good sized entrees and appetizers. Complimentary dishes throughout the evening. Great for a special occasion. Reservations recommended. Rack of lamb was amazing as was the chocolate hazelnut crepe.
Best French restaurant in Vancouver. Excellent service.
Amazing place. Best service and delicious food. Feels like you are in France. Good local wine options. Definitely recommend. Expensive. Don't miss your chance to talk with a chef/ owner Michael Jacob - so friendly and kind person!
Had high expectations after reading all the reviews but disappointed and didn't think it was worth the price.
Overcooked extra salty food. Have dined here in the past, but the new ‘restaurants are hurting’ attitude is awful. They’ll seat you 3 feet from other diners and promise to ‘take care of you’. We spent nearly $500 on a table for two, only to be treated like we spent $5 at McDonald’s. Maybe we would have been treated better there. Wouldn’t recommend or go back here.
Although on the pricey side, the food is absolutely fantastic.
Great service and great food
Excellent service, awesome food. Can't say more. It was great!
Still one of the premier restaurants in our town. We started with oysters and snails, followed with mains of sable and Wellington, all perfect. Service was first class, the room felt as if most were regulars.
Wonderful food and wonderful service

This restaurant had been established a great reputation for their traditional French cuisine for a long time. My family went here for a celebration dinner previously. We had end up filling with too much foie gras that we even couldn’t finish the entrees. (ps:I have to say the best foie gras I had in Vancouver is from Uma sushi)Well, from the pics you will find that obviously someone still got the place for dessert lol. Caviar..hmm, you know, just regular caviar. :-P I knew people are saying their food is not as good as before , but anyway, I really appreciate the portion of each course not like the spoon sized other new&young fusion French restaurant. Customers usually are fickle in affection and you can do nothing about it .Just do one thing and one thing is good , until the good become a legend.
The best of the best!! I actually came back to leave a GOOD review for Le Crocodile because of how much I missed the service here after a poor experience with another "upscale" restaurant. I came here a few months ago with my friends for my birthday and was in awe with our waiter Pierre. We are a group consisted of younger individuals but Pierre made us feel welcomed and did not discriminate. Although the restaurant was very busy, all of the staff remained friendly. The food was generously portioned and plated very nicely. Every dish was described professionally and really worth the price. I definitely recommend this restaurant for any special occasions as they will not disappoint!
Wonderful place for dinner, looking forward to you opening again
I had the worst experience.I did not even get to experience the food.I was trying to just talk to host and reseve a big party for next coming Friday . There was a guy at the door who greeted me and I said I will talk to host, but he said rudley “No , you talk to me”. As I approached to the front door , he grabbed me with hand and pushed me. This was super shocking to me. He eneded up arguing with me. I still don’t understand why he did not want me to talk to those servers. I just think because I look darker with beard he did not want me to enter the restaurant. i asked him is that why and are you a bigot and he said yes he is!!!!!! He said I am not allowed to talk to host. Another case of vancouver bias . A non caucasian male is not allowed to talk to a caucasion lady. I dressed neat and formal so I don’t understand why he treated me like that. We were supposed to come for our birthday for group of 10 people but NO WAY. This is a racist place. They only serve white people. Please Also ,do not bring the interracial date either as you might not get treated well here. The guy who stopped me said he has been working here 15 years , so you could imagine how the customer service will be. I quickly looked at tomrestaurant and all patrons were caucasion.
Incredibly tasty food, worth ever cent! Will definitely go back here again.
Formidable! My father and I had dinner on Friday and everything was first class. He had the Cariboo; I had the tenderloin with foie gras. Elegant but not fussy service. Just the right degree of attention. A very good sommelier. Highly recommended.
Great place for French cuisine. We celebrate special event here with family and always have good time. Excellent service and excellent foods. No doubt a 5-stars!
Best French food I've eaten in a long time. Make a reservation! It's worth it. We had to wait a while for a table.
Love this place! Fabulous menu and extensive wine list. Upscale all the way with award winning chefs ,an informative, accommodating and friendly staff! We have been going here often for the past five years and really enjoy it.
Dinner
Meh. This place came highly recommended but was not that impressed. We got a reservation for two for an early dinner on a Sat night. Now, mind you, we are small people and typically order one appetizer and one entree to share. Two entrees are usually too much for us and who wants to waste food?! So we tried that here and were told that it is restaurant policy is that each customer must get an entree. If we wanted to share they would charge us for $8 for each dish. So basically an extra $16. Ended up with two entrees which was of course too much. Food was fine but would not recommend it for a fine dining experience. Final serving of two crocodile chocolates was a nice touch. The irony of it all was that if they did not have such a policy we probably would have spent more money here.
Really amazing restautant. We had an amazing dinner. It is expensive. But worth every cent!
Exquisitely prepared French classics in a quiet, elegant, adult room.
Very polite and friendly staff. Nice and clean restaurant. I think they can improve on the ambience, however. I would've liked it if it had more of a romantic feel to it. The food is absolutely delicious. I enjoyed my time at this restaurant. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
Food tasted great and great service. First time trying out this place. Had duck as main dish. It was tender and flavorful. Will definitely come back.
For me the best restaurant in which I have eaten! excellent service & high quality food also it is very comfortable chairs they have short and long menu if you choose the best length to eat that for dinner
Service
Excellent food and service.
For someone who has lived in France and worked in the culinary industry; our experience at Le Crocodile was a true dishonour to the French culture. I made a reservation for July 24th, at 6pm at Le Crocodile for a milestone birthday. I didn’t mind the 2 hour trip from Chilliwack, for my special birthday occasion. It seemed as if we were deemed a non priority table on arrival. The last guest on our table arrived at 6:18pm and she immediately ordered a drink. No one came to check up on us until 7:05pm, and whenever I signed to the waiter that we were ready to order, he seemed very occupied and carried on with more seemingly urgent tasks. What made it worse was that the table next to us arrived after us and they were served immediately and even placed their meal orders while we were still awaiting our waiter. We finally get the long awaited moment to place our orders, and in the middle of reciting our array of choices, he just said ‘I have to go!’ And whizzed off! We thought ok, maybe there is an emergency and he came out with meals for another table. He disappeared another 10 minutes. He returned, and we continued with placing our order and this time, he just walked off, with no real excuse or acknowledgment that we were also hungry and trying to place an order. At this time, we are now feeling very offended. How do you just walk off when your client is placing their order? TWICE. This is the most disrespectful service, I would not even expect this from any restaurant. It’s not a question of customer service, but just basic human respect. We understand things get urgent in the kitchen, but for this to happen twice, was a clear indication once again we were a non priority. Over 1 hour to get to place an order, and another 50 minutes for our meal to come out. Now the food. Frog legs were amazing! The foie gras was fair. The steak was a lower quality than the Keg, but the Bearnaise sauce made up for it. The duck was fair. The Beef Wellington was the best thing we ordered! The soufflé, which is otherwise a great choice despite the high egg concentration, should be avoided at Le Crocodile. Prior to our dessert arriving, a sorbet was just dropped off, no explanation. We had to try decipher what flavour it was, only to hear the neighbouring waiter explain to his table that it was a pear sorbet. Our waiter made it very clear he was simply unavailable for any of those extra touch points. Hearing and seeing how the neighbouring waiter treated his customers made it worse for us who barely received any service and when we did, it was short, and borderline offensive. For dessert, I ordered the Soufflé. As someone who lived in France, my knowledge of the true flavours is acute. The temperatures were off, and I literally had an inedible scrambled eggwhite dessert. For me to see this very dessert on my bill was quite offending. I didn’t mind paying for it, but even considering the service we had received, a bill over $350 and a terrible dessert on my birthday, this was unacceptable. The waiter had to tell his manager who had to ask the chef. Such a stressful environment. There was also the biggest glass crash in the bar, that I have ever heard in any restaurant! I was looking for an exit! I had to ask if it’s always like that and someone who worked there admitted unfortunately Fridays and Saturdays at Le Crocodile are high pressure nights and unfortunately this made it the worst dining experience. On the whole, a true disappointment for a connoisseur of French cuisine, culture and service.
I'm not an expert on French cuisine, but I do know I love coming here. They really spoil you here and my experiences here have always been incredible. A meal experience here is to die for, and when I find the time, I will have to come back to this post and elaborate on that.
Such great flavors
Simply perfect.....so good had to go back the next night.....c,m on the reds was a nice touch...such a shame it is so far from where I live.....Liverpool England....but I'm an Evertonion...thank you all for two great nights.....
Superb dinner experience. Pierre was an outstanding waiter. At the end of the meal, he noticed we were preferring the milk chocolates with coffee over the dark ones and replaced them with our preference. Food was delicious. Looking forward to returning.
Like walking into the past, but in a very, very good way. This restaurant answers their phone. You can speak to a real person to make a reservation (which they take). The food is very well done, and the service is professional. More restaurants in Vancouver should take a page from Le Crocodile's book. Well done.
Restaurants like this are don’t really exist anymore it’s an old school experience with old school French fine dining dishes. Nothing incentive or new so to speak just tradition. It’s a great experience and meal when you have the opportunity I would highly recommend
We had reserved a table a month ago for tonight, December 23. We had called to confirm the reservation on 21st. We understand that the restaurant had a staff member tested positive of COVID, so you need to close down. But shouldn’t the restaurant calls their customer who had reserved a table for the cancellation? If we were not lucky enough to have a family member look for the menu on website and found the closure memo, then we would’ve all standing outside the restaurant with four elderly. We had been to Le Crocodile many times, and it used to be one of our most favourite restaurants, but as a high end restaurant I don’t think this is acceptable. If you have time to update your website and IG, then why don’t you have someone started to call your customers who have reservations on the first day of your closure. Not everyone visits a restaurant website after they made a reservation and knew what they want to eat. Since google does not have a reply under owner comment then I can only edit my post. We don't know when you started the calling, but when we called the restaurant no less than 10 times from December 22 night till December 23 afternoon. Finally, someone answered the call around 1pm, and she told us that the restaurant had not start calling the customers for cancelation, that's why we did not receive any call. Our reservation was at 6pm, so did the restaurant planned to call the customers 1 or 2 hours before their reservation and think that they can get a table from other high end restaurant for Christmas? For a high end restaurant, I don't think this is acceptable service to provide to the customers. As I mentioned there are a lot of people do not check the restaurant website right before their booking, and lots of elderly they don't search website, such as my parents. Also, I think this is one of the reasons why the restaurant asked the customers for their contact information, it is to tell the customers the cancelation of their reservation.
Amazing food with service to match. Every dish tried was excellent, but their duck and seafood options really stood out. You also can't leave without trying the soufflé!
Food is good in average. Duck confit a bit too salty. Drink is below standard. We order a lavender green tea but no flavour just like ordinary water. The waitor at that night is generally good except we are being rushed, asked to leave without truly enjoying till the last. That is really a issue considering dinning in a 5 star restaurant. Regards
Superb!
It used to be very good. Our last visit was disappointing. My husband ordered the slow braised lamb shank it wasn't that good. Then he ordered the beef tenderloin with peppercorn sauce but it tasted burnt and it was dry. Knowing that mine was ordered 20 min before and it was cooked to perfection. Sadly, there was no consistency. That can not happen in a good french restaurant in France. Also it's overpriced comparing to what you get. I think for a better french culinary experience "Provence marinaside" in Yeltown is a better option in terms of quality and above all consistency.
Dine in
excellent service and extraordinary cuisine
One of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver (Top 3 on my list!) Service is always excellent and food is superb. It's French good at its finest. I tend to order the oven roasted bone marrow each time I eat here for an appetizer. A great combination of flavours and goes perfectly on crostini. The lobster bisque is also tasty, creamy, and flavourful. I've had the parpadelle & veal cheeks, duck breast and foie gras, veal medallions with morels, rack of lamb and lobster fettuccini. What makes their dishes so delightful are the sauces that are rich and delicious! And the meat and seafood are cooked perfectly. The tart, shoestring fries, sorbet and chocolates are a nice treat. Order the grand marnier souffle for dessert, its magical! Five star service and food!
What an amazing place to dine. My fiancee and I went here for her birthday and had such a fantastic time. Our waiter was fun and attentive and made us feel truly cared for. The food. THE FOOD. Everything was perfect. From the dishes we ordered to the mini pieces that were served in between courses. I had the beef wellington and I can't even put into words just how good it was. I asked for it to be cooked the way the chef believes it should be cooked and it came out a perfect medium rare, melt in your mouth, fantastic dish. My fiancee went with the duck and foie gras and that also was fantastic. If you have a night available please treat yourself to this place.
Absolutely spectacular in every way. You cannot go wrong! Great value, service, and impecible meal.
Excellent food, one of the best high end French restaurants in Vancouver. The service is good but it can be a little too excessive.
Le Crocodile is a pleasant surprise. We loved it all: exquisite food, very attentive service, nice vibe, great wine card, and a convenient location. I'll definitely book it again and would highly recommend it to people looking for a French/European-inspired dining experience.
A staple of Vancouver. Never disappoints. But I would recommend skipping the steak -- it's chewy. Everything else I've tried here has been superb.
Very nice dining experience. Been there a few times. The food is fantastic, and the restaurant people are very friendly and professional. Their tomato soup is my favourite. Will definitely go back!
OVERALL: The quality of the food and the service did not justify the price! We were so excited to come try this famous french restaurant. We had to email them 3 times and wait 10 days before being able to book a place for 3 people. However, when we got there, the dine out menu changed... For the appetizers choices it was initially Risotto with truffles and Lobster bisque but they decided to change it, last minute, for a wild mushroom soup and an arugula salad with beets and bufala cheese... I was expecting more from a french restaurant then a salad... and a soup (especially for the price you pay). When we asked to change the appetizers they refused to do... even if the lobster bisque is on their regular menu. However, they decided to change it for the table next to us... The sole dish with the lobster beurre blanc was disappointing - we didn't finish it. The salad was very basic and the mushroom soup way too salty. The Escargots and the veal medallions were good as well as the wine and desserts. I also like the idea of the crocodile chocolate to finish the meal.
Amazing
Super luxurious restaurant . Good if you want to impress your date . Expensive though , which worth it
We got the day of our reservation wrong and came a week early! They were extremely accommodating and after a 15 minute wait we got a table after someone did a no-show. Service was amazing and the food was great. Thank you Le Crocodile!
Fine dining food with more than reasonable portions. I left the restaurant a very happy customer.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere (maybe not the fire trucks but hey they can't control that) the waitress was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Food was fantastic, dessert was amazing. I wish I could have tried all of the desserts.
This is the best fancy dinner we had in year 2021, BY FAR! This is one amazing restaurant and it never disappoints every time we come back! We came in with our 6 years old kid but and the gentleman who served us tonight, Brian was extremely patient and accommodating making us felt the most welcomed! The service is 1000/10! The food is perfect and is always super delicious and clearly were prepared with passion and care. Thank you so much for having us tonight and we can't wait to be back again very soon!
We met friends here for dinner and were not disappointed. A lovely elegant and refined atmosphere. Service was impeccable and friendly. Our food was outstanding...beautifully prepared and presented and melt in your mouth goodness. Dessert was grande Marnier soufflés which were the very best I have ever had....Expensive but worth every penny....
Called the restaurant to make a reservation. Receptionist gave a big sigh with a sassy attitude saying they're booked up. That's fine because I am never coming back now :(
Always delicious and well executed to perfection! Amazing French food.
We went for our anniversary with my GF. The foie gras is a must try. The escargos were too buttery for my taste and not worth ordering imo. I ordered the lamb shank and she got the halibut with tempura with noodles. The entrées were good but had better. Service was nothing but exceptional.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, if you go at lunch time the prices are more reasonable, however you can't go wrong for a special occasion or a treat for yourself and or someone special. You won't regret going there and you will want to go back!
Classic french cuisine without much modern influence and great atmosphere If you want to the best type of classic french cuisine --- come here. None of that molecular gastro influence
Pierre is the best server. Made our valentines day evening so special!
we had a very excellent experience here,we celebrated our first anniversary in Le Crocodile. They were so sweet that painted the blessing on the plate side of the last dessert. The soufflé was so soft and smooth. we got super luck to get a reservation right on the same day for dinner. The service is very thoughtful, the food even more worthy. The price for food is actually reasonable in French restaurants, unless you order their bottles of wines,we got a champagne which cost 230,and all the spend on food were even less than 230. The medium rare of duck breast with foie gras can't be more delicious, same as the rack of lamb, very tender and juicy. Anyway,it s a super enjoyable meal!
we love this place and go there every year on our anniversary. One time i dropped my fork, instantly one waiter picked it up, and another swooped in and placed a new one at my side. Food is excellent too of course!
Attentive service, authentic cuisine, and astounding quality. I cannot stress enough: everything was perfect. Do yourself a favor and come hungry - it would be a wasted opportunity not to make it to dessert.
Coming here is like walking into a Real French restaurant in Paris - an excellent one. The food is traditional Alsace dishes with that unique twist only a skilled chef can do. Portions are good sized. This is the perfect place to bring a date, or to celebrate with family. The seafood linguine, steak with peppercorn sauce, and rabbit were all excellent.
One of the best French restaurants in Vancouver! Their foie gras & beef bone marrow are not to be missed.
Food was great, service was on point. Though it is quite expensive, but definitely worth it.
Not somewhere I can afford to go often, but my god was it worth it! Best lamb I've ever had, and the veal medallions my girlfriend had were amazing. Great service, helpful sommelier, and a friendly crowd.
I cannot say enough good things about Le Crocodile. We come here to celebrate special occasions. The staff look after you from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. The food. Simply amazing.
Incredible french cuisine that is sure not to disappoint! One word: butter! :)
Meal type
Best roasted duck with foie gras I have ever had. This took me back to France. Un repas magnifique.
Always a great meal. One of Vancouvers best!
One of the most awkward dining experiences ever with some of the worst service we’ve ever seen. While we were still drinking our coffee and enjoying good company, we were told very rudely that we “need to leave”. We had made a reservation and neither upon making the reservation, nor upon our arrival had we been told that our dining experience was limited to less than two hours. We weren’t even offered our bill before this to be discreetly told that it was time to wrap up our stay but instead, the aforementioned “you need to leave” by the floor manager. We do not recommend this place to anyone.
I really enjoyed their food. I always get fantastic service there. The place is clean and the employees are always very friendly. Will come back again.
the best place for any occasions. Lunch menu has good value.
Wow! We went during dine out and I was very impressed with the food and out waiter. He was so kind and helpful. The only problem was that everyone was wearing so much perfume/cologne and we were sitting quite close to a table even though COVID restrictions are in place... had to go out to breath fresh air because it gave me a headache :/
Everything was Excellent! Waiter fantastic food was superb will definately go back. It was a great experience for our 1st time there on my boyfriends birthday !
Ridiculously and meticulously the best. Expensive to be sure, but worth every single loonie.
Dinner
Outstanding service from the greeting to our departure only surpassed by the delicious meal. An extensive menu with a vast array of daily specials. Michel and your entire team - thank you!!!!!
Well-established French restaurant in Vancouver. It’s worth a try if you never been before. The place is pretty packed and tables are set up quite closely. This must be a very profitable joint as they turned the table several times at night. I still see people coming in even it was already 10 pm.
Save for when Covid closed its doors there for a while I have been going to Le Crocodile every couple of months. As of last week I can report that pretty much everything is now operating at the same level as before covid. It remains my best choice for a higher end restaurant in Vancouver. Perhaps the only thing that I can think of to improve it meaningfully is to add one more waiter. Unlike in pre-pandemic days Le Crocodile is now regularly fully booked, and the waitstaff are always operating at a dead run.
We have been coming here for 5 years for our wedding anniversary and it is top notch . Never disapoints . The staff is attentive, friendly . A +on service and amazing food.
I’ve been to Le Crocodile twice now with my girlfriend and both times have been excellent. Our server for both times was Mindy and she’s been our favourite part of our experience. She epitomizes fine dining, great service and the love for food. She made us both extremely comfortable, excited and ready for our meals. I hope management understand the gem they have. The kitchen was fantastic both times. Everything cooked perfectly and absolutely delectable. Bar cocktails were on point. We’ll be coming back here again and again. Bravo, Mindy & Le Crocodile. Bravo.
Some great food and really good service.
An absolutely incredible and superb dinning experience. Every facet of our evening dining was perfect. The doorman met us with a smile and kind words. The young lady at the front desk was welcoming and warm and took us to a perfect table. Our waiter Pierre was attentive, helpful and had a wonderful sense of humor - the service was terrific. Ms. Quinti, the Sommelier was extremely helpful selecting a wine, and the food was incredible. We started with the foie gras and then on to game for our main course - all beautifully prepared and done to perfection. My wife and I have lived overseas for a total of 26 years and we truly know good food. Le Crocodile is certainly among the finest French restaurants in the Pacific Northwest and probably among the best in North America. We will be returning! Barbara and Jame Quinn - Seattle Washington
Classic French restaurant. Food and drinks were good, but compared to other restaurants we've visited in Vancouver, it just wasn't anything special, but to be fair, it very much stays within the classic French cuisine. It was very busy, service was a little slow, but very good. They take your coat at the entrance, ready to help you along the way, complementary sorbet. I had the grilled salmon dish. Salmon was cooked to perfection, but lemon sauce on the side was a little too acidic and really overwhelmed the little potatoes on the plate. But the salmon was delicious so overall I can't complain. My only other note is that there was no real social distancing in this place. It was packed, and every available square inch was used for another table. A little uncomfortable, but we chose to stay so our risk in the end.
they are still very busy in the COVID time, food is fantastic and delicious. love the restaurant
Karla and I celebrated our 5th anniversary of the day we first met, in person, at this exquisite, French restaurant tonight. See below on this page to see a detailed description of our first meeting. Service was top notch, attentive yet unobtrusive, knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. All in all, a very classic haute cuisine, sourced with local B.C. ingredients. Unquestionably 5 star, this restaurant is expensive but provides fair value for the cost. We will definitely go again for a special occasion.
I just moved here about a year about and was dying to try out this restaurant because of its popularity. The food was good, but not at that price point. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly.
Tried booking a table online for next month and never heard back from them what a joke!!!! Pathetic service!!!
Chef Michel is the man. We both had an excellent experience and the food was really exquisite! Must check this place out!
This is a timeless treasure of Vancouver. Central to everything but tucked away from the city buzz. The food is a culinary delight and world class. Presentation is also next level with attention to all the details. Everyone owns their level of service and commitment to the ultimate dining experience. If you want to impress, this is the spot.
Romain the worst Manager ever at Le Crocodile. One of the worst dining experiences ever, with some of the worst service we’ve ever seen. While we were still drinking our coffee and enjoying good company, we were told very rudely by the Manager Romain that we “need to leave”. Disrespectful and rude, I don't understand how this man can work in this famous restaurant. I'm very disappointed
One of best restaurant in Vancouver downtown High quality of serving and food but portion is not big and pricey Good to visit for special occasions
Superb meal. Excellent food and fantastic service. Wonderful restaurant. The Dover sole is amazing.
"""A Vancouver culinary institution which provides an evening's entertainment as well as superlative food, this place never disappoints. The extensive menu is supplemented by many nightly specials, and little extra touches are delivered with some regularity."""
Still one of the best French restaurants in Vancouver after all these years. Great food and services. Ask for the daily specials before deciding on your order.
We had a wonderful time at this restaurant. This was our first time with french cuisine. The wait staff was very friendly and enthusiastic. The food was delicious and there was lots to choose from on the menu. The small complementary dishes were a nice touch as well. Definitely recommend eating here and we will definitely be back again.
A Vancouver institution. We went in for my wife's birthday and they were able to accomodate a dairy allergy, which isn't evident for a French restaurant. Also, the service is attentive and engaging.
Fantastic French restaurant in Vancouver. The service is attentive and sensitive to your needs and the kitchen gives you free bits of food in between courses to keep you satisfied. And of course, the appies, entree, and dessert are to die for! Thanks Pierre.
How can I add a sixth star? From the moment I walked through their door, I was greeted with warm smiles. The staff here work amazing together to make you feel like you are their only guest, eventhough they are fully booked. If there were a bar for customer service, this place definitely sets it at a place beyond reach of most. The food was amazing. I expected it to be, but they outdid themselves and went above. Each bite made me crave more. It was gastronorgasmic (if that isn't a real word, then it is now). Wine list can be a bit overwhelming, but luckily they have a sommelier there to guide you to a good bottle. Our server was very attentive, as were the rest of the team. No small detail were overlooked and addressed. Very impressive. Two and a half hours went by really fast, as if time stood still to make each moment last longer. I've been coming here for years, and will continue to for years to come. 6 stars!
Lamb shank is the best here. Service is top notch l. Absolutely love it.
One of the few placed you can get real Dover sole in Vancouver. During white asparagus season, they fly some in fresh from Alsace; definitely worth a try I'd you haven't before!
A fantastic meal! Hands down one of the best overall experiences in the city. Classic french cuisine with a few modern twists, a level of service that has long since been forgotten and an atmosphere that makes it very hard to leave. On a rainy anniversary night, my wife and I spent a wonderful evening sampling the beef tartare, escargot, pan seared fois gras, lobster thermador and the beef wellington (forgive the spelling) while quenching our thirst with delicious cocktails...Le Crocodile is a must try! We will certainly be back. Our compliments to the chef, the service team, the hosts and bartenders! Délicieux !
Recommended by a friend, we were really happy we managed to get to Le Crocodile. Scheduling meant we could only have lunch but we wished we could have had a full dinner, because it was all delicious. When the chef heard we had been trying a number of the good restaurants in town, he sent us a duck terrine in addition to the starters we had ordered (fois gras and tomato and gin soup), and all were delicious. The mains, venison and sablefish were excellent as well. The service was impeccable and the overall experience left us regretting only that other obligations rushed us a bit, (though the staff did not. Indeed, when we told them we had to go, they brought us little ices and crocodile shaped chocolates that we could enjoy but that wouldn’t slow us down.) This place rates easily with the best French style restaurants in Toronto or other North American cities.
We had an excellent evening here for my father's birthday ! Creme brulee fois gras was to die for ! Service was perfect ! Will definitely return soon.
My favourite sablefish! delicious!
A bit pricy, but the best french cousin in Vancity. Highly recommend
Expensive but reasonable prices. Nice quality. Helpful waiters.
Service
I have been here a few times and would say it is consistent. It is a higher end restaurant but not overly priced for what you get. They do seafood well, which is why I always come back.
Great food, amazing service. Lovely evening all around.
Valentine's date here was lovely. I have never had better tasting cauliflower. Wow.
We went to this restaurant tonight. There were ups and downs. My husband tried the chef's menu which started with a lobster ravioli and a crab lollipop. Neither of them was actually very good. The lollipop had a hard crust. It was not crispy but tough. I think the restaurant had some difficulties in making or cooking pastas. We had been to Italy and had some really good Italian food in Vancouver. In le crocodile, the cover of the ravioli was very thin and had no texture (it could have been cheap wonton wrapper for what I knew). My main dish, the lamb shank (which was HUGE), came with a dish of gnocchi. It tasted like mashed potatoes that were made into gnocchi shape. It had absolutely no texture at all. Never the less, there were good dishes. The frog's legs were really tasty. The meat was juicy and tender. The frog flavor came through the butter, chive and garlic sauce. The tomato cut through the heavy buttery sauce and refreshed the palate. The lamb shank was succulent, tender and flavorful although I would recommend it for two people. The beef tenderloin was good as well. The sorbet and the desserts were excellent. I had the passion fruit sorbet with creme brulee style lemon tart. It was light, flavorful, like fresh squeezed lemon juice. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good (There was a woman that walked around and said hello to us. I thought she might be the supervisor but did not like her attitude). All in all, I enjoyed my night in le crocodile despite the poorly cooked pastas and the tough crust of the crab lollipop. However, I did think that I would rather paying good money for fantastic food instead of the atmosphere or the service.
The best French Restaurant in Vancouver. From Impeccable service to classic French dishes that evoke your taste buds, Le Crocodile is definitely worthy of your pleasure
Great food and excellent service. Easily one of the top restaurants in Vancouver. Ordered the frog legs and duck breast. Doesn't get anymore french outside of France than here.
Excellent food and service. It is very traditional, so don't expect to find "fusion style dishes" here.
I'd like to say this collective is great! Fast service and great food!
Spencer the bar tender was amazing we got a shot of Louis the thirteenth and he executed it perfectly such a good bar tender. Our server Sheri was amazing very accommodating and so sweet We enjoyed our dining experience and highly recommended the frogs leds
Sumptuous French cuisine with great service. Lunch prices were reasonable for the quality of food served. Great venue for business lunch.
There's really not much to fault them on - nice decor, great service, well prepared and presented food. It was quite noisy, enough so that at times it was difficult to hear my wife from across the table. Overall, a nice evening.
Booked via e-mail a few weeks ago for Saturday. Got a call from the hostess Anastasia on Thursday asking if we were confirmed for Friday. I said we were booked for Saturday. She said there’s been a mistake and we were accidentally booked for Friday, and asked if we could come then. I said no, we had other plans, and we were supposed to come on Saturday. She said she was sorry and knew who made the mistake, and that they would “make it up” to us. The next day we got another call from Anastasia asking if we were coming on Saturday. I indicated that she had called us the day before, and got our booking wrong. She said sorry and asked if we could come on Saturday and that they would “make it up” to us. So we changed our plans twice in3 days to go for dinner at Le crocodile. We spent $400. And when we got the bill, nothing was “taken care of”. Not even our sparkling water. When we asked our server, who was great, where the hostess was, he indicated she had left for the night. I explained what had happened, and his colleague gave a lame excuse that the restaurant was busy due to dine out and bookings may have been confused. Things happen, I get it. But when someone tells you twice that they will do something to make up for an inconvenience, I believe them. It’s unfortunate I was wrong. Based on that experience, I can’t recommend le crocodile.
Food is amazing here and also very consistent. I've been here a few times and even during covid times their quality AND PORTIONS has remained the same. The only downfall is that they have two seating times now. One at 6 and one at 8. We got the first seating time at 6 and it felt way too rushed for a French dinner experience. The food does come fast but you can't order immediately. You'd get asked what water you'd like, then you'd get introduced to the drinks menu, then they give you time to decide, you order drinks, get your water, wait for the waiter to explain the menu and daily specials, then you get time to decide, then they come back to take your order. So we didn't actually order until probably around 6:30. This leaves us only an hour and a half to recieve and enjoy three courses plus our drinks. Luckily I was with family and our goal was just to dig in, but I can imagine if I was here with colleagues or friends there would be a lot more conversation. Even with our limited coversing, we weren't even done with our mains before being reminded that we need to leave soon. I respect the time limit but the pressure put on me made me lose my appetite and I just decided to box up my food. By no means were we being slow but the time limit felt really unreasonable for a fine dining restaurant known to host special occasion dinners like birthdays. It really took away from the experience and I had to just down the rest of my wine. We were told to order dessert with the menu handed to us when I was still mid bite into my main. It made sense given the time limit but it gave us so much pressure to hurry and leave. I could tell in the servers tone that he was sounding more rushed and impatient despite the fine dining etiquette he was presenting, along with the fine dining jargon. Our server was top notch but his nervousness was making me feel like I was doing something bad and every minute longer we stayed only made me feel more guilty - and it wasn't even 8pm yet.
Food was impeccable. Thier sommelier was beyond reproach in her tasting selection. Truly, a fantastic experience.
The best lunch I have had for as long as I can remember. My wife and I both had the Sablefish but my wife had a gluten and dairy free version which was actually better than mine. Great food and service for less than a lunch at the Cactus Club.
The food was very good, need more French speaking waiters
Service
nice service with wonderful French dishes. Will come again if there is chance but I am living in Toronto.
Always wonderful. The food is spectacular, the presentation top notch, the service friendly, attentive and professional. It has been the same unforgettable experience since the first time I went back in 1985 or so. No better restaurant that I know of. Six stars.
Bland and tasteless. The dishes are made with subpar ingredients and slapped together with no finesse. Will not dine here again.
Always excellent! The duck was done perfectly, my steak cooked exactly how I requested it. Service is spot on. There's a reason why they're one of the absolute best places to go in Vancouver!
We finally return to this Vancouver classic after more than decade and it didn't disappointed. So we got lucky being able to make a reservation last minute and we get seated right away upon arrival. Got to admit, the service was a bit on the slow side but I guess that's normal for a French restaurant? All the food was perfectly done, especially the Foie Gras and beef Wellington. Oh just so perfect!
Everything was fabulous. Our server Brian gave exceptional service. He was attentive, friendly and professional. He was super clear spoken, knowledgeable and enthusiastic when listing the specials. We asked him multiple questions and he always could give us an informative answer. The food was superb. Nothing missed
This is the best French restaurant in Vancouver with no doubt! I had my birthday dinner at this restaurant yesterday and I really enjoyed the food and excellent services! Love the feature menu -beef Wellington ! Will return here for special event.
Heard mixed reviews and experience here so decided to come here for lunch to test the waters first. Was very impressed with the food and ambience. Service is a bistro service but manager seemed her friendly. I think the only thing they need to work on here otherwise lunch is exceptional value for the quality. Will definitely come again.
I've heard good things about restaurant decided to try it with some friends. Everything was lower than expectation, server was rushing the service, and took the wine glass after it was finished and didn't even asked if we want second one!! she asked if we want sparkling water or regular and we asked for sparkling and she kept filling our glass without asking if we want more water and we ended up having 35$ charge for water!!!!!!!!!! common if your wine is 16 $ and your bottle of water was 11 $ each, wouldn't we drink wine!! we asked for manager, and she was not supportive either, I know all high end restaurant offer sparkling water for free, this was a cheap action and a rip off! so disappointed, food presentation was so bad , nothing special........
Pretentious and over rated, we had a very disappointing experience here. We were initially very excited about the place and picked out what we wanted from the menu, but because we preferred to share one entre and order a number of smaller dishes to share (what we do at almost every restaurant we go to), we were told the owner and chef demand that we order 2 entrees, and therefore couldn't order what we wanted. The food did not make up for the annoyance of being forced to order what we did not want. The duck was average, and lobster was uninspired, and we over ate at a chefs demand. Absolutely positively will never return, our dining experience was stressful and unpleasant.
Nice atmosphere, great servers, amazing wine and some of the best food I've ever had. The only two things I would change; the taste of the horrible atrocities done to the calf were less pronounced in the veal and the crocodile chocolate was real crocodile.
Had dinner here with my fiance to celebrate our engagement. Such a lovely night! The staff were so lovely and attentive. The food was beyond amazing. Hopefully we will go back sometime!
Mu favourite restaurant in Vancouver. Food is awesome.
Excellent Alsace French restaurant, extensive menu. Service perfect. Friendly courteous staff. Food delicious.
Amazing desserts and the food is top notch. The staff are incredibly helpful and charming.
The best food, the best service, simply the best. Thanks for always making our experience special.
One of the best meals my wife and I have shared. A very memorable experience. The food was amazing and the service was great too. This is a must for any time we come to Vancouver. Worth the price
Great good, pricey, wait staff great in the middle of service lacking at start and end.
Certainly a spot worth stopping over, the food is awesome and well prepared, the prices are convenient and it is always neat in here. Great work.
if you love to eat French food then this is the place for you. Their Food was delicious and their staff is really welcoming.
My husband and I went there for dinner on Saturday to celebrate our wedding (we got married earlier that day). From the moment we arrived, we were treated like celebrities. We got a quiet, little table in the corner. Our server, Pierre, was fantastic and I highly recommend you request him as your server if at all possible. Everyone at this restaurant is impeccably trained and you know that this is a career for them and not just a job. I tried to order in French and Pierre humored me and complimented my pronunciation (even though I know I butchered the beautiful French language). I had the Escargot to start while my husband had the Lobster Bisque. Both were to die for. For my main I had the Rabbit Legs while my husband had the Duck. The food and the drinks were amazing. Definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone!! You will not be disappointed.
A true culinary treat. The staff is VERY attentive without being overbearing. I felt truly spoiled. The food was amazing as well. You can tell the care that went into the preparation and display for every dish. What a talented group of staff!
What ana amazing place! Went for our wedding anniversary and the food was completely amazing. Every course was better than the last. Out classing the food was the service lead by Brian, who made the whole evening perfect.
My absolute favourite French restaurant. Lobster bisque and pan-fried fois gras are sensational.
Not as good as I remembered from 4-5 years ago. Food was good, but not great. Service wasn’t great at all but not terrible. Feels overcrowded and too busy, tables too close together, not even 6 feet apart. Likely won’t be back for a while.
I took my boyfriend there to celebrate his birthday. I had a reservation for 830pm. We waited 20 mins to be seated. What's the point of calling 20 days in advance to get a reservation? After we were seated, we were very hungry as it was 9pm and we havent even ordered our food. It took the waiter quite some time to take our order. The appetizers were good. We ordered frog legs and lobster tempera and scallops. The presentation and flavor were excellent. However, our entrees were flavorless. I ordered rack of lamb and my boyfriend ordered duck and foie gras. The duck and foie gras were overcooked and flavorless. It was very disappointing. We've been to many fine dining places (Vancouver, New York, Chicago) We didnt feel like we were at a fine dining restaurant. The place was loud, the service and food mediocre. We will not come back.
Went for a 5:30pm sitting on a Saturday night. I've never been to a Michelin-starred restaurant before, and I was hoping for a grand experience. The service was okay, and the atmosphere was at par, but I was a bit disappointed with my entree (I ordered the scallops and prawns with angel-hair pasta). I got two scallops, three prawns, a cracker, and a tim-bit amount of pasta in butter sauce. Now I'd have to say the quality was good, but for $30 I was expecting more. Basically I was expecting to be blown away, because that is what Michelin-starred restaurants are supposed to do. Sadly I was not. Perhaps if I ordered a meat dish my opinion would be different.
Every dish our group ordered was special, yummy, and well-plated. the appetizers were small for the price however.
Consistently the best traditional and classic French food experience in Vancouver thanks to Chef Michel Jacob and his staff.
As Zagat says this place is "at the top of its game", i could not disagree any more. The staff at the restaurant was extremely rude from the moment we walked in. The manager was extremely pretentious and had an eviscerating attitude. As for the food.. well it is average "at the top of its game" one would be overpaying for. For those reading this review please reconsider if you are looking to reserve here.
The best authentic French cuisine.
Absolutely the best meal since France
One of my favorite Vancouver restaurants. The food is amazing. This is an award winning restaurant with amazing chef's. If you consider the prices are way too high, you shouldn't bother going here. But you definitely get what you pay for. Food is awesome.
Great service and delicious food!
Amazing restaurant. I went here on my anniversary and we got the 3-course meal. Everything was to perfection. To start we got the scallops, you could tell it was very fresh. Although the portion is small, you pay for the quality. I really enjoyed this course. For the entrée, I got bison. This was a very unfamiliar meat to me and to be honest I was a little scared to try it. But it was delicious – tender and moist. It was a really great cut of meat and it paired well with the red wine they suggested. Finally, the last course was breath-taking crème brulee. A nice crisp outer layer with a creamy filling. 5 stars!
Traditional French cuisine. My family has been patrons for over 25 years. Best foie gras I've ever tasted. Variety of choices of appetizers, entrees and desserts. Good wine list to complement the delicious food dishes.
Really tasty food. Poor service, the waiter never bothered to look at us when we called him. I'd come back for sure, but only because of the food.
I do not consider myself a food critic by any stretch of the imagination but I have eaten at many Michelin Starred French restaurants and eateries during my life time and I have to say this place was a severe disappointment. Travelling to Vancouver from London to have a special dinner with my most beloved on a Saturday night I was expecting a night of amazing food and great service and I was left in shock. First and foremost there was no greeting at the front of house. How can that be for an establishment like this. We were left standing in the foyer for 5 mins wondering if there was going to be a greeting of any kind. Even Nandos provide better service than this. We waited and it did not come. We were eventually greeted by a friendly waitress. The Maitre D was busy shining a metal jug which I noticed as soon as we walked in. Truly awful service from the get go. The food was mediocre at best. Definitely not worthy of praise. The appetisers sufficed. All our mains were swimming in sauce. The meat was completely drowned out and spoilt the dish. The dessert was nothing to write home about either. The company of my girlfriend, our waiter and the doorman were the highlight of the night. I would never visit this restaurant again and those who rate the food here have clearly not experienced anything of decency in their life. You are lucky to have been awarded 1 star by me. AVOID. Dr Yong
We went here for our 4th wedding anniversary for dinner. The ambiance was nice and relaxing. From the moment we entered until the time we left, the staff were nice and helpful. The food was great and they give more food compared to other higher end restaurants. We ordered one of the specials -- lobster tempura atop a halibut fillet and linguine pasta. We also ordered the chinook salmon on top of spinach and potato in virgin sauce. For dessert, we enjoyed the chocolate mousse and creme caramel desserts. Our server, Brian, was excellent. He was great at explaining the specials and the dishes that we ordered. He truly is a top tier front of the house.
Great french restaurant. One of my favorites.
One of the best dining experiences I‘ve ever had. The food and especially the service was amazing. I had high expectations but I was completely satisfied at the end. Thanks for this special evening.
The original server at my table was bad but for whatever reason a different server ended up with us who was far better. Very attentive and emotionally intelligent service for the rest of the evening from all staff. Food is rich and heavy in almost all aspects but it's a nice change of pace compared to the rest of the PNW farm to table fare that simply lifts from French cooking techniques. If you're wondering what to wear, most other patrons were dressed really casually. Make of that what you will.
I had a fantastic dinner here, with very attentive and friendly service. I had the salmon entree and thought they did a great job.
Great French restaurant with excellent service
I thought it was quite amazing... William is an amazing server. Beef tenderloin was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend any bisque or soup there. Will be back soon
Excellent service - anticipated our needs without being invasive, very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Loved the duo of foie-gras tasting and souffle!
This must be one of the most overrated restaurants in Vancouver. After reading the glowing reviews, I was excited to go here for a special occasion dinner. The first thing I noticed upon walking in was that no music was playing and that it was insanely loud inside (think of the ambience of a food court). The service was awful as we had to wait a very long time for anyone to take our order, and whenever a waiter did attend our table to quite literally drop off some beverages, they would rush off before we had a chance to ask any questions about the menu. Ultimately we were about to leave when someone finally came to our table, and we ignored our instincts and decided to give the place a chance. The food, when it finally arrived, was either under or overseasoned as the lobster bisque was overwhelmingly salty and the duck was bland. There are many other restaurants in Vancouver that offer higher quality service and food for the same or even more affordable price points. If you are after a romantic and intimate dinner for a special occasion, I would go elsewhere.
This is my GO TO place for all special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations. I have been here many years and the quality of service and food has always been top notch. I was never disappointed. Lately, we have been choosing the Chef's Tasting Menu with wine pairing. Please keep in mind, these are regular size portions and not small tastings. You will be very full! As we are not big drinkers, it was great to have the sommelier explain how each different wine tastes with our meal. Other reviewers have already described their incredible food so I don't want to repeat myself about how great every thing is. If you like gamier meat, in the fall/winter, they usually have the Caribou special that is worth the time. It is the leanest meat but cooked perfectly to medium rare (my fave) and so tender and flavorful. The sauce is 'old school' french! Yum Yum and very saucy. It takes years to perfect the sauce and it shows. If you want to see how well train and skilled the waiters are, order the trout, they will de-bone it for you table side. With couple flicks of the wrist and a few minutes, Your serving is beautifully presented and the bones cleanly removed. The staff from the hostess to the waiters and bus persons are all very professional and at the top of their game. I really want to give kudos to the wait staff for memorizing the extensive Daily Specials of Cold Appies, Hot Appies and Mains on top of knowing the answers to questions about the menu. The restaurant is very cozy and clean. They have valet parking out front and will have your car ready when you leave. At the end of your meal, they will present you with light and dark chocolate crocodile before the bill. Class Act all the way. If you have a certain special occasion and want a special table, they have their table map on their website.
The customer service was great and they had an extensive menu with almost every type of dish imaginable. The food was also great and came out quickly. The decor was nice and the entire place felt very elegant. I would recommend this restaurant to friends of mine who want to have a fancy night out, or for anyone who isn't too hungry but still wants a good meal.
Best French restaurant I have ever been to. Amazing service food and wine
Superb food and service.
My husband and I love this place. Best service, amazing food and a spot-on dirty vodka martini. We come each year for my birthday and it makes my birthday that much better.
Best lunch of my life. Beyond expectations
It was just ok. I expected more from the reviews. The little amount of vegetables I did receive were mushy and nothing was seasoned. Bland duck confit. Most likely will not be back.
This is a wonderful place. Food and service are top notch. This is French fine dining at its best.
Great atmosphere and delicious menu
We went here to celebrate some significant career successes, and it was terrific. The service was UNREAL. They took our jackets at the door and whisked us to our seats immediately. There wasn't one moment between ordering, different courses, and paying the bill where there wasn't some food on the table. The wine the sommelier recommended for us, despite not being the most expensive on the list (which we loved), was delicious. They gave us cute starters and deserts with candles in them on the house and even offered to call us a cab. We truly felt spoiled. Thank you so much to the staff!! **Heads up: it's not vegan-friendly - even our salad had meat and dairy on it.
A doorman is very nice, gave us enough help, foods taste delicious and services is good.
Excellent service! Thank you Pierre, you are exceptional. Food was great as well
Incredible French dining experience. From the excellent service to the amazing dishes, it's stellar all around. The long list of seasonal specials is always packed with great dishes; we managed to grab the Lobster Thermidor special this time around and it was easily one of the best dishes I've ever had in Vancouver.
It was an absolutely beautiful experience. Food was amazing, wine was delicious and watching the choreography and professionalism of the staff was a highlight. Will be back.
I've been wanting to check this restaurant out forever. Our server was excellent. Food was good. Interior design a little dated.
Delicious food, and wait staff who are extremely helpful and attentive with being intrusive. The location is a little tricky to find, as the entrance is not actually on Burrard St, despite what the address says. $11 valet parking is very competitive with nearby options. Pricey, but not over the top for what you get. Now one of my favourite restaurants for a special meal.
After they were able to find me a table last minute, we enjoyed a wonderful meal with attentive service and great recommendations by our waiter.
Service is fantastic but the food was just so-so The large variety of different proteins on the menu is suspicious; how much of it is frozen? The texture of my veal was mushy so i'm guessing maybe that
Fantastic French menu. Great wines and wine parings.
Our experience was as near perfect as you could hope. Lovely atmosphere, amazingly attentive staff and impeccable food.
10 stars for this one. Outstanding service, Frederick, Anton and the whole team was sensational. The food was like heaven. Portions are generous and full of flavors. For any special occasion Le crocodile is a MUST!!
Dishes was very tasty and servers were nice. It’s definitely recommended. Only one complaint is the table was very small. The tables for 2 people need to be a little bit bigger, there wasn’t enough room on the table for all the food we ordered.
Been here twice, their selection of exotic dishes really set the mood for an ambrosial experience. Service was magnificent as well the crew at Le Crocodile will go the extra mile to guarantee a good time. I recommend the peppercorn steak, duck confit, and frog legs.
unprofessional wait stuff. We made a reservation prior to a birthday dinner gathering but had to wait 35 mins for the table to be ready? It's absolutely ridiculous to say the least.
The best high class French dining in Vancouver. I don’t even need to write a review, as the thirty plus years of success speaks for itself. Michel Jacob is one of the best chefs in the country. I was fortunate enough to have the lobster tempura and grilled scallops, steak tartare, foie gras with scallop as appetizers, each of which was perfect. We had a superb bottle of red wine recommended by the wonderful sommelier Evelyne with our main course of steak topped with foie gras and porcini mushroom over a port reduction. Needless to say, the steak was fantastic. Every staff member provides outstanding service and goes out of their way to improve your meal. I would like to extend my gratitude to Chef Jacob and the kitchen, and Maître D Liam Todd and the front of house for a truly exceptional dining experience. I eagerly await my next visit to Le Croc.
Enjoyed every dish along with excellent service.
We dined here celebrating our engagement night. The staff was very courteous and congratulated us numerous times. The chef brought us out complimentary dishes in honor of our engagement. The food was absolutely outstanding and delicious. I would definitely go again and recommend this lovely restaurant to anyone. Bon Apetit!
Just plain simple: it was unbelievably amazing food! The service was OUTSTANDING and the atmosphere was lovely! By far one of the best restaurants I've ever been to.
It is decent as a number of people reviewed. We had great experience. They see us holding flowers and they bring flower baskets which is sweet. Price is reasonable considering the experience. The only thing is their Waiter had an argue right in front of us. Which I don't think should be shown to customers.
Great place to dine excellent dishes and great servers.
Superb food, so good we went there twice.
Our second visit and most likely our last. Service has plummeted here. We sat at the bar and in comparison to our first visit this left ALOT to be desired! The food was okay, the onion tart tasted like a store bought quiche but everything else was fairly solid but has certainly gone down hill over the past year. For us the service killed the entire experience.
Excellent dinner- great attentive service of wonderful food - particularly appreciated attentive well informed wine service
They have the tastiest stakes in Vancouver.
Our favorite restaurant for over 15 years. Simply great! Best steak tartar :) I've had it so many times in so many restaurants all over the world but Le Crocodile one is the best.
Service
Though not as good as before, it's still one of the best restaurants.
This French restaurant tucked away in downtown Vancouver, on Smithe and Burrard, is perhaps one of the best restaurant in the province. It's been around for over 30 years, and it hasn't changed much over those years, except the menu which has been updated every now and then. The service was excellent, and what you would expect from a place like this. The sommelier was helpful with the extensive wine list. I highly recommend this place for it's fine food and service. It's truly a place for a special occassion, romantic dinner, or even a business lunch. I highly recommend this place.
That one restaurant where I can close my eyes and run to without a second thought! One of my friends took me out here for lunch, the other day. And I was amazed by the authenticity, l’ambiance, the flavours, the warmth of service....EVERYTHING! This is a must-go if you call yourself a food-freak???????? Finesse is the word for you guys! J’ai, personnellement, eu une bonne éxpérience! Je vous remercie????????
Amazing place and great service. Food: Caribou and Duck. I liked the duck more. It was delicious. Foie gras with toast was also delicious! Drink: wine (Cabernet Sauvignon)
Yesterday I had lunch at Le Crocodile and was very disappointed. Their special for an appetizer were oysters which I ordered. I was shocked to find pieces of cracked shell in 3 out of 6 oysters that I had to pull out of my mouth. Aside from that they didn't taste good and gave me an upset stomach later in the day. For the main course I ordered Salad Nicoise. Again, quite a shock. The plate looked empty and unappetizing with salad frisee topped with a chunk of grilled tuna, pieces of endive and a couple of olives with a sliced egg. Where are baby potatoes, green beans, anchovies?? The tuna looked bad and tasted like it was grilled previously and then slightly warmed up. And it would've been nice if at a restaurant of this level the egg had a softer yoke, not hard boiled in advance or a quail egg. The dressing was also poor. Will not go there again.
Expensive, high class. Delicious. The duck is excellent, highly recommend it.
Amazing service (took away my dish when I was away from the table and brought it back without prompting shortly after I returned). I'd recommend the Chef's tasting menu. Lamb was fantastic. Desserts here are amazing.
Service
I agree with all the other reviews about the food being stellar but the reason for my mediocre rating is due to the service and general management of the restaurant. First, the restaurant being a bit of an institution in Vancouver, remained as busy as ever despite the pandemic. The night when I was there with my husband, it was packed (ie. every table occupied, servers running off their feet), seemingly without regard for COVID 19 protocols. The tables were not properly distanced and there were too many staff. we were seated in the corner and staff literally brush up against my husband's seat every time they pass. They were hosting a large private party (about 20 people) in the lounge area booths. While each of the table did not exceed 6 people, all seats and tables along the entire length of the booth were occupied. I understand that restaurants were generally starved for business right after reopening, but their lack of protocol was reckless and made me feel unsafe. Service was not what you would expect of a fine dining establishment. Someone else in a recent review mentioned they felt hurried and the manner of the server was rude and abrupt - that was our experience too. We also noticed that they had the only Asian waiter service all the tables of Asian clientele. I"m not sure if that was a coincidence or by design but I felt awkward, nevertheless. I certainly will not return during the pandemic but may give this restaurant another try post-pandemic on account of the amazing food.
This place was absolutely amazing. We ordered tons of food. My steak was out of this world, and their fries are absolutely addicting (I don't like fries.) Fantastic must have Soufflé. I come to Vancouver a few times a year for work, and this will be a regular.
Some restaurants you visit to fill up, some you visit for the experience. This is definitely a restaurant you visit for a unique dining experience. From the moment you walk through the doors until you leave, excellent service is the name of the game at Le Crocodile. Our server was very kind with a servant's heart. As my wife calls it a "fancy" restaurant, be prepared for a steep bill at the end of the meal but they do a good job of constantly bringing out food to your table (most of it you aren't paying extra for!)
Ever reliable great food and service.
Great food, excellent service
One of the classic fine dining destinations in Vancouver. Always reliable for a spectacular meal and excellent service.
The food is not as expected and overpriced. The escargot is not fresh at all and taste like wax and makes my stomach hurt after.
Great food and a beautiful restaurant. The chairs could be more comfortable.
Best in Vancouver. Always bring guests here when we want to impress. Service and food parfait. Merci!
Food is very good but service is only 2.5 stars
The dishes that can be tasted here are of the best quality, The prices are typical of a restaurant of these characteristics, leaving between $10-55 per person. The place is a bit small, so if you want to go, it is convenient to reserve a table before. They have a delivery service at home.
So delicious! Nice service ❤️
I took my partner for our anniversary here, so I was well aware of how expensive it was. But we were disappointed with the food and decided it was not worth the price. I have definitely had better French food elsewhere in Vancouver.
Great service and good french food! Would recommend for a special date or simply want to try something different.
Super attentive service... Got the two specials that they were offering in the beef wellington and the halibut.. Both dishes blew us away... The flavor and the skill that it took to make those dishes is simply unmatched. Cannot wait to go back and try other items on the menu
Meal type
For appy we got Bone marrow. So tasty and quite filling as well... pretty much full after appy already.. For main dish We got: Chef special Caribou + lobster tail on top of couscous; (I forgot what cut) steak with foie gras on top. Been here a few times. The food never disappoint, just very slow paced I always end up spending the whole night here...
Very nice evening I had there! Service was excellent!
always a great experience...food, service top notch
This was an amazing dining experience. :D The servers wore masks to keep us safe. You could still see their smiles and their pride and pleasure at working there. All of the people working there are kind and attentive. I blushed a little when a server going by as I went to sit down, asked if he could push in my chair for me. The food was a gastronomic delight! Everything we ate was a feast for the eyes and the palate. I highly recommend you go here to celebrate any reason you have.
Had an utterly amazing dinner, would absolutely return
Great food and service. Definitely something out of the Vancouver norm. A full evening experience so expect to stay there for 2-3 hours. Portions are decently sized and will definitely leave you full. I recommend : Bone marrow Oysters Rack of lamb Lobster Veal Soufflé for dessert!! Their menu is extensive and you are bound to find something that sits your taste. Perfection is in every bite. As emailed to le Crocodile My boyfriend and I came in tonight for a celebratory dinner, as I move onto a new career path. Of course our food is always superb, as expected. One of our favourite restaurants. However, tonight our server was OUTSTANDING. Chris made us feel at home and was very easy to vibe with right off the bat (so was the rest of the staff). Chris really made our night and made our experience amazing. He definitely deserves this extra praise.
Delicious and friendly people.
The best birthday ever at Le Crocodile!!! Love every bite!!!
Celebrated our valentines lunch here. Very good service and nice food.
From start to finish, the service was unmatched. We asked for a nice table given it was a special occasion and they delivered. Our server, Max, made our dining experience memorable. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and made us feel comfortable with our choices (he was fair and honest). The food was also delicious! Choose Le Crocodile, it just Max(ence).
Very professional service, enjoyed every dish!
great service and food, made my birthday feel special!
Amazing food! Incredible service, so perfect and couldn’t be better.
Dinner
One of Vancouver's best Restaurants where the chef has been there 21 years. I know because I ate there 21 years ago
This place is amazing. It's worth a trip to Vancouver! My wife and I still talk about this place and it's been several years since we were here.
Great night out excellent wine list and nice menu to match easily 5 stars.
I'm not big on giving out 5 star review but everything was perfect for our dinner. The chef is a true artist of french cuisine and the service was excellent.
Great experience to go to this restaurant for a spontaneous dinner. The food was really amazing and the service was just perfect! Unfortunately, we decided to visit this restaurant at very short notice and therefore didn't reserve a table, so we had to sit at the bar - which wasn't actually a problem. I would definitely reserve a table early for the next time. Otherwise it was really perfect.
If fine dining french cuisine is what you're up for, then Le Crocodile is your place. The waiters are knowledgeable about the food, the flavours and service are outstanding. Just know that it is not a quick sit down, even for lunch. But if you have time, and can afford to splurge, I would highly recommend this place
Classic French fare in an upscale but relaxed environment. Pricey, but worth it. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere classy. Wish I could go more.
My experience here tonight was really good. The only reason why it lost one star was because they forgot it was my fiancé's birthday (I called previously to remind them and they said they'd do something for the dessert). Also, wasn't so happy that the staff weren't wearing masks. I know it's not mandatory but I feel it would make me feel more comfortable dining in.
Very authentic. Pricy but worth it! They’ve had the same menu for 35 years and the chef still comes out to meet guests.
Over rated. Having worked in the hospitality industry for over 15 years, in high end establishments and working at Sotheby’s for the last decade (I understand luxury brands and service) I can unequivocally tell you this: The SERVICE is spectacular- attentive and efficient! 5/5 The FOOD is lazy. The same base sauce for the lobster thermidor, bisque and the veal reduction sauce. The shrimp cocktail was bland, and the shrimp was mushy, which tells me it was made in a large batch not per order. 3/5 The AMBIANCE is old school , which is neither good nor bad. However never in my 50 years on this earth have I experienced this: We were there to celebrate me finding my birth mothers family after being given up for adoption 48 years ago. I was with my husband and new found sister , so as you can imagine there was lots of laughter. After about 30 minutes the chef/owner sat down with a table of about 6 people. The chefs guests then proceeded to give us very dirty looks and very dismissive gestures. All three of us instantly felt uncomfortable and extremely unwelcome. As you can imagine for such a happy momentous occasion it was ruined. We will never get this moment back. I left devastated. 0/5
Pinnacle dining experience and the food was excellent. The staff and service were attentive and immaculate. The wait staff took care of every need in consummate fashion. Small, cozy, unique, and elegant atmosphere. Highly recommended the Le Crocodile.
In years of holidays including cruising, the meal I had there was the best ever. Yummy.
foie gras was tasty. Filet w bernaise was nice n soft. Amuse bouche was creamy n tasty tart like a quiche Lorraine flavoured. Recomend. Will come back absolutely. Thanks.

Great Authentic French Cuisine in Vancouver Old school French culinary art and presentation with high standard service.
Classy, elegant, and one of the best french food restaurants in the city. Great service, and memorable food!
Had an excellent experience here with my wife. Some people may think it seems a bit intimidating from the outside but the hosts and servers are very welcoming, polite and accommodating. An excellent choice for any special occasion. Of course the food was delicious as expected from a top tier fine dinning restaurant.
Great place for dinner on Friday.

Our Favourite restaurant. My husband and I always come here for special occasions and it never disappoints. We have come here for 18 years. Fantastic service from the valet, to the hostess, to the wait staff and the sommelier. There is no other restaurant in Vancouver with the same attention to detail and service. Kyle and Pierre always give amazing service. The menu is always extensive with additional daily specials. Some of my favorites are the steak tartare and the pan seared Foie Gras. Food quality is excellent and portions are very good. Le Crocodile never disappoints. I always feel taken care of when we are here. It is the restaurant to measure all others to.
This restaurant is a classic, you can't go wrong. I like the old school vibe. Souffle is ????????????.
This is the epitome of French cuisine with an Alsatian influence, comparable to the best Michelin rated restaurants around the world. Everything is top notch, from the exquisite flavours and attention to detail in each dish, to the impeccable service and wine selection. Every dining experience we've had here over the years has never wavered in consistency, always impressing us and everyone we share this restaurant with!

Make sure you dine here at least once... you'll be happy you did. Great food and ambiance.
French food with classic credentials and innovative flair. The foie gras duo was a fantastic way to start. Friendly and professional service. Bravo!
Very friendly maitre'd. Service was slow however. A good place to celebrate with family... I would take my grandma here. Seems old fashion
Very well. Delicious dishes and excellent service on all levels from entrance to table strand sommelier
One of the best dining experiences in Vancouver . the food and service is incredible . Our waiter , Pierre was the best . First time there and will definitely return .
This is an elegant restaurant that really sets the tone for a luxurious evening. The service is excellent; food thoughtfully and artfully prepared. Fois gras is delicious here.
Pan-seared Foie gras was excellent. Service was quick and attentive! Would visit again definitely.
One of my favorite restaurants.

This place was recommended to us by a friend and it did not disappoint. Food was very good and both my husband and I had a great experience!
I can easily find favourites in each course. Small portions of complimentary food items added each time to make it even better. Crocodile shaped chocolates offered at the end are also yummy and very cute. I look forward to going there again.
It is really the best high-end restaurant in Vancouver. Everything we ordered, from the starter to the dessert in the end, was amazing. And great customer service, I really feel well taken care of by our waiter. Best anniversary dinner so far, thank you for giving us such a good time tonight :)
My wife and I went here to celebrate my birthday. The food and service is top notch. It was my first time eating here. I always hear good things about the restaurant and the food, now I know why.

Best part was the amuse bouche. Went downhill from there. Service excellent. Decor is bland. Looks like a cheap Chinese restaurant.
Delicious food and amazing service, the Dover sole fish is out of this world!
Service was amazing. Food was great. Ambience suitable for date night. Its quite pricey for the portion size but the dishes are all beautiful and full of flavours. I have recommended this restaurant to a lot of my friends and tourists alike
Delicious food, well-trained staff. And very pricey.
This restaurant is an experience. The service was outstanding! The food was rich and full of flavour. I had the frogs legs for appetizer and they were amazing! The first time I have ever tried frogs legs and they did NOT disappoint. Definately a must try. My main was duck and venison. The venison was unbelievably rich and tender. I only wish there was more on the plate ????. The Chocolate mousse for dessert was delicious but very much like a standard chocolate mousse (however no less disappointing). This is a little on the pricey side for dinner, but well worth the money. The food and experience did not disappoint ❤
Food good service as you wish, you can go full movie fantasy or look behind the curtain with a wink and a nod and have muted fun! Rated Yum
unbelievable restaurant, unbelievably talented Chef. we have been trying to get to Le Crocodile for months but have been unable to, mostly due to covid, and we were ecstatic to get in for a special occasion tonight. the menu is unreal (authentic but innovative) & the service is beyond. it was fun, it was delicious, and it was like nothing else we’ve had, let alone in Vancouver. we ate like kings/queens but never too much. everything was just perfectly executed.
Was excited to try this place for our anniversary. Waited 15 mins just for our waters which we weren't happy with. The beef tar tar and snails were good, foie gras was good, but the wagyu was mediocre at best. The service picked up at the end but my overall experience wasn't the best.
Excellent food and customer service. Grilled Prime Rib of Beef on the Bone with Béarnaise or Bordelaise Sauce was delicious.
Best French restaurant in the city. Everything on the menu is delicious.
❣️
Good dining experience here. It does get super busy at times though.
Brought my girlfriend here for her birthday and absolutely loved the service! They had this really nice bouquet stand for her bouquet of flowers and they also gave us complementary dishes (appie and dessert) during the course of our meal. 11/10 for customer service.

No wow factor. Food was decent, I had the chicken and my partner had the tenderloin. Sauce did fit our flavor profile. Had much high expectations for the food itself. Service was good, prompt and courteous.
The food was good and all. The issue was that I didn’t research it before I went and it just wasn’t my type of food. Great waiter. Great service. Just not my type of food.
Always a great experience at Le Crocodile. Impeccable food. One of our favourite French restaurants.
I stopped by on my lunch break to purchase two gift certificates for Christmas. The maître d’ said they were too busy and I would have to come back later. It was 1:30pm, and it was somewhat busy.. (certainly not bustling like The Cactus Club, or similar upscale-casual dining place where this request isn’t an issue). It could have been his French demeanour that made it seem like a cold dismissal when he was trying to be matter-of-fact. I won’t be back.
We reserved a table well in advance for our anniversary dinner and I specifically requested a nice table, by the wall or window. We arrived and got seated at a middle table. We wanted to order food right away but there was only a cocktail and set menu and we felt some pressure from the server to order a drink, and clear disappointment when my partner didn't. Amuse-bouche was wonderful and the food arrived pretty quickly. After dinner again we felt a tremendous amount of pressure to order dessert, even having dessert spoons set in front of us. When we declined the server sighed and said "oh come on!" in an almost rude manner. He laboriously removed the dessert spoons in a guilt-tripping way. Throughout dinner he never once bothered to ask us how our day was, what the occasion was or whether we had other plans later in the evening. Not saying the service was horrible but it kind of ruined our meal. It would have been nice to receive better service at a place of such standing. The food itself was great, but we would happily go to Les Faux Bourgeois, Au Comptoir or somewhere else with a more pleasant ambience next time.
Such an incredible atmosphere and staff was so good. The food and wine were incredible as well. Can't say anything bad about it
STILL GOOD BUT JUST DISCOVERED A BETTER CHEF IN French Cusine In Vancouver.Your never no1 forever.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately tonight's dining experience was definitely not up to the standard we have come to expect. One of our guest was served raw sea bass. The waiter took the fish back. Unfortunately the recooked fish was not fresh and even had a bad odour. We mentioned this to the waiter who apologized. However the $49 for the fish remained on the bill. Very disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber.
SIMPLY AWESOME!!! French cuisine done perfectly! Incredible customer service! Extensive wine list!
Great restaurant..love the Souffle. No where else serve it!!!
We enjoy eating out. Yesterday we came to this delicious restaurant which we didn’t know before. We had a lovely evening there with exceptional food and an efficient crew and a professional chef. We added this venue in our list and we will definitely visit again very soon. We warmly recommend.
The food failed to live up to the price, and the servers ignored us for most of our meal in favour of a group of loud, wealthy businessmen near us. Unless you're visibly flush with cash, it's best to seek a better dining experience elsewhere.
Food sooo good!
I have been this place 3times at dinner time and many times at lunch. Many people don't know lunch time is way reasonable price then dinner! Service is good price is good if you never been try at lunch time!!
Food and service are amazing. Its not often places that have both such amazing food and service
Very consistent French cuisine with excellent service.
Amazing! The food was sooooooo good, and the service was also incredible. The waiters were super kind and helpful, and they were constantly cleaning up your table. We ordered a seared foie gras entrée (which was very filling, but very good), a duck and venison main, and a tiramisu. The tiramisu was not the best tasting, but it was very pretty. They also give you a lot of free dishes, we got a savory tart along with our entree, and a cantaloupe sorbet with our dessert. Essentially, you could come here without ordering an entree or dessert. Of course, most dishes are $30-50, so you are paying a fair amount for the service and food. A really great experience!
My FAVOURITE restaurant... the food... the wine... the service... EXCELLENT...
I visited in early January, the chef must have been away on holiday and there was filler staff in the kitchen, as overall the food was not at the standard level. Further to this I ordered a "bone in rib eye" steak as my main. The steak came without a bone. I mentioned to the server that it did not match the description. He took the plate and went to the kitchen with it. Then came back with the plate and explained the chef says about 2 out of 10 steaks come without a bone. I suggested the next time the kitchen knows a "bone in rib eye" steak will come without a bone they ask the customer first if this is ok. Unfortunately this restaurant functions on a very old school French approach to business. And my choice going forward will be to choose other high end restaurants that offer great food with great service.
Higher cost for an actual night out if you get drinks so be prepared, but high reward with the fancy service and food. :) reservations are virtually required and seemed to book out in advance I believe, just check their site for details or call.
Restaurant didn’t bother to call us to let us know that our reservation wouldn’t be honoured. We arrived and the restaurant was closed. Very poor customer service that was meant to be a special occasion.
One of my preferred dining venues in Vancouver and the next best thing for when I am not in my beloved France. Last week I host family from Singapore for a luncheon here and as usual the staff were professional, courteous and knowledgeable in regards the menu items and specials. The service was great, as to be expected and the food was above standard as always.
Quality of food (steak) is poor! Price is high Service is good.
Food remains excellent, unfortunately the service seems to have slipped considerably since we last visited. Both our server and sommelier were not attentive and borderline unfriendly. Hopefully it was just an off night and the previous service level is restored for next time.
Had the 5 course meal. Lamb chop was amazing! Service was some of the best I've ever had. 5 stars
I love this place! Eat here every time I am in town! Great service, food to die for and a great wine list with rare wines ( Carole Bouquet) ;) highly recommended! You won't be sorry you ate here
Always a great experience here. The servers were very knowledgeable and attentive. We never had our water glasses empty. Food is superb and we left with some nice crocodile chocolates.
There is no better place in the Pacific North West than le Crocodile for exquisite French quisine, service and ambiance. Period!
Awesome staff, godlike food

Best hickory sticks in town.. I used to live two minutes from here but have only been twice. And I only went after I moved out of the area. The food and service was exceptional. It's a special occasion treat as it ain't cheap.
My favorite part is the chocolates at the end of the meal. Le crocodile is Vancouver's very few option of fine dining. Definitely recommend for special occasions ! Book early during big holidays !
Absolutely an incredible experience. Staff have such an amazing level of service.food is unreal. Overall one of the best places I've had food in Vancouver
This unpretentious, upscale French restaurant has some of the best service I’ve ever experienced. I was slightly disappointed with the taste of the food; not its presentation, however. I believe there should be a better balance of protein and vegetables on the plates too. I’d give the food 3/5. The scallops were over cooked, which was a shame and the food lacked seasoning. The staff are friendly, accommodating and attentive, which is why I gave the restaurant 4/5 overall.
Great food, reasonable lunchtime prices if you dont order starters ($25 - $35) and great service. Be prepared to wait for your food at lunchtime as it gets busy
We strolled in about an hour before their lunch service was finishing. With no reservations, we were still welcomed and waited only a few minutes for a table. The service was top notch and the food was creative and delicious. The atmosphere is classy but didn't feel pretentious for the caliber of restaurant they are. Well done.
Food for the soul. Very comforting and an exemption service!
This is definitely the most disappointing dining experience in Vancouver. With this high price, I'm expecting a decent fine dining retaurant and we ordered the tasting menu. However, the food is so mediocre. The main is just a lamb stew that you can find in any other restaurant. Starters are very sour with little decoration. Don't come if you want a fine dining here.
Better than expected. Food was very delicious and the waiter was very funny, kind and made our experience great. Ordered the rack of lamb with gnocchi -- superb. Desserts were also yummy. Elegant French cuisine, will come again! Thank you staff
Fantastic food and service. The quality of the food was some of the best Fine dining I have eaten. I higher recommend Le Crocodile. Bon appétit!
Food was pretty good. Staff and Manager were so-so friendly. Surprised they charged an appetizer split fee when there were 2 of us and we ordered 3 appetizers. Will patronize restaurants that value customers over nickels & dimes.
Speechless. Transformed our evening into a night in Paris! The food, the wine, the atmosphere, words are not enough to describe it!
Superb restaurant without the hype for so many years. There is a reason why the owner trains some of the best chefs in the country... he is the godfather of great cuisine. Food is spot on and so is the service. This is one classy and relaxed place.
Came here for birthday dinner. Food is superb, no complain!
It really can't get any better.
Have you had raw quail before? Neither have I! I used to go to this place quite a bit but never again. I came here on August 24th for our anniversary and the starting dish of quail was raw. I had swallowed a few bites and so did my pregnant wife. It tasted fleshy so I spat it out and whipped my phones flash out to see it was raw. I notified the manager immediately and she made excuses that they usually serve it medium rare. She brought the dish to the kitchen and came back out saying that “it’s a little undercooked”. Its not even cooked, it was raw and NOT medium rare, and even she agreed. She took the plate away and cancelled the dish and that was all. Didn’t see the severity in raw poultry for a pregnant woman. I contacted the restaurant the next day to speak to the chef/owner. Left him a couple voicemails and sent a email. ZERO response or acknowledgement for over 2 months!!, either the staff is trying to hide it from him or he doesn’t care about his patrons. Mistakes happen but it’s how its handled on how I give a restaurant a second chance. With all the nicer restaurants in the city that CARE about their patrons, I would stay away from this place if you care about food safety.
Cozy, comfortable restaurant with a stellar menu. Excellent service and ambience. As a recently converted Vegan, I was still amazed how creative and tasty the chefs' constructed the meal for me on that busy Saturday night. Great for families, dates, business lunches..You will not be disappointed.
Food was delicious, service was fantastic. Would definitely come back here!
Very good french cuisine with good service. Prices are good for the food niveau offered. Foie Gras with Sauternes was incredible.
My all time favorite restaurant in Vancouver and I would recommend it to anyone who visits (only if you're not on a tight budget). I've been going to Le Crocodile for over 15 years (yes I am spoiled by my parents haha), the service and food has always been consistent, never disappoints. My must order dish is the quail (appetizers) and duck (main course).
Best French cuisine in the city! Wonderful service, too! If there's a special occasion, Le Crocodile is where you want to go!
Food was good but a tad on the salty side. The service was exceptional!! We had a large group including children and they went over and beyond!!
Service
I never had a fine dining experience until Le Crocodile. Absolutely worth it. I had the Steak and Frites and my girlfriend had the Duck foie gras and it was amazing! Great service. The only criticism I have is that the Server bombarded us with a lot of information about the menu. It took her a good two minutes of us staring and listening while she recited a memorized script.
Food was decent. However, the appetizers seemed to be better than the main dishes.
Been twice and loved it both times. The food is wonderful and you don't have to break the bank to enjoy it. I had sweetbreads the first time and a special the other, both were under 30$ and I left absolutely stuffed partly because they give you a tart and some bread and butter to begin with and a scoop of sorbate after. The wine is pretty expensive though, the cheapest half bottle is still 20$ or more.
Good old fashioned restaurant. Top notched food with very reasonable price.
The best restaurant in Vancouver! Best food, best service! Even in these strange times, eating here was a wonderful experience!
Service was good, food was great! I loved the soufflé. The portions were much bigger than I thought, by the end of the meal I was regretting ordering two heavy items (bone marrow and a steak).
This was my first time trying french cuisine. After all, there aren't many French restaurants in Vancouver. It went better than I thought and I enjoyed every dish that my friends ordered. It was a wonderful experience.
Amazing, simply amazing. I have never had a kinder more Profesional wait staff and perfectly cooked and perfectly tasting food. If you ever have a chance, please do me a favour and try it.
This is my go to place for sea food linguine and steak . Quality is unbelievable and being French I feel like I’m back home in Paris every time I visit here . And the service is excellent
Retirement lunch that carried through dinner. Awesome staff. Excellent food.
Terrific food, terrific service.
Amazing service very fast great food????????
Great service and good food, however, the host was slightly rude to us for staying "too long." If a high amount of money is being spent for food, I would assume time should not be an issue.
Unpopular opinion, but an absolute waste of time and money. I ordered a feature dish, unaware that a “chef’s creation” meant a bunch of buzz words that translated into a haphazardly thrown together dish with little to no flavouring. The sauce had a hint of “black truffle” (a memory really, and likely oil instead of any actual truffle), the “tenderloin” was an unseasoned cut of mediocre quality from the worst end of the tenderloin (cooked decidedly medium when the order was for medium rare) and a slab of “foie gras” that was condescendingly explained to me as duck liver when I would have expected goose (as is proper French tradition). My fiancé ordered a veal chop that was also over cooked, although he enjoyed the mushroom sauce that disguised the dryness. This is a great place to go for a special occasion if you have zero experience with fine French food - if you do, you’ll be sorely disappointed in this pale comparison.
We booked a reservation with the hopes to do Dine Out, however, when we arrived we decided to do a la carte instead. Their mains were just too enticing. We ordered a bottle of the red Clos du Soleil Celestiale to share. The wine was fantastic and I will definitely try and find a bottle of this in the BCL or Everything Wine in future. For starters, we ordered their daily special which was a pork hock terrine and the bone marrow. The terrine was lovely and came with buttered toasts and mustard and pickles on the side. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting around 45 minutes after receiving our terrine for the bone marrow. We could tell our server was getting really stressed as it seemed like the kitchen was behind or forgot our order, but our server didn't really say anything to us to address this huge delay. Considering we have heard such amazing things about the service at this restaurant, that was a bit surprising and disappointing. The bone marrow was tasty and rich, and the kitchen separated the two halves on different plates for us which was nice. My half of the bone was really shallow and I got maybe 1 full teaspoon of bone marrow, whereas my partner had several spoons of it from his half. Luckily, he ended up sharing with me. I would not order the bone marrow again though. For our mains, we ordered the duck confit and the lamb shank with truffle gnocchi. Both dishes were incredibly rich, perfectly cooked, and very delicious, though the duck confit side was extremely citrusy. The portion sizes were really good. For dessert, we ordered a chocolate hazelnut tart which was nice. Overall, the food was really wonderful and our server was extremely nice, but I do wish they would have acknowledged the incredibly long wait time between our starters.
Not the best French Restaurant in BC, but pretty good.
Fantastic quality of food, service and ambience. Always a delight to dine here!
What a fabulous place! From the front door man to the hostess whom will take u on the scenic route to your table and then.....to the waiter.....to the sommelier.....all is well in the le crocodile. Firstly, make sure to listen attentively to the server as he/she describes the mouth watering dailies. Dang....now how does one make the choice between foie gras, scallops, truffles, lobster....one doesn't...so u order all the above. Delightful. Bon soir!
An amazing restaurant with great variety of dishes as well as fantastic service that in my opinion is unmatched compared to other Vancouver restaurants. I will warn all the vegetarians/ vegans out their it will be extremely difficult to find something to eat off the menu. Compared to stereotypical french restaurants the portions here are very generous and the flavours and combinations of ingredients really are A+. I would recommend Le crocodile to anyone looking for a fancy night out and while it isn't cheap, an amazing dinner for two with wine tax and tip can easily still be under $200.
Today was our 25th wedding anniversary so we picked one of my favourite restaurants where in the past I have felt pampered and spoilt in every dining experience imaginable. The restaurant was advised when I made reservations that it was our “25th” wedding anniversary. No one acknowledged our special day until we were about to leave through the front door by the male host. Very disappointing. Our waiter was good apart from he spilt my cosmo on the table. Instead of making me a new one went and got a napkin and wiped the glass. He apologized but really a five star restaurant should have better standards. The glass was sticky! A napkin was put over the spilt drink. The food arrived in good timing - sable fish just melted in my mouth. My husband had the Dine In menu but was disappointed with the sole dish - it tasted like a sponge cake. Weird texture. Desserts were good. The restaurant was very busy and your tables were not 6ft apart. the servers did a good job by wearing masks at all time. I have always held the restaurant as a high end restaurant in Vancouver and expected fine dining. Was very disappointed and I don’t think I would recommend your restaurant to anyone in the future.
GO THERE!!!! The ambiance is lively and welcoming. The staff seems like they are REALLY HAPPY to be there. They are friendly and fun.
Wonderful experience with a French touch. Everything taste the same as my mom's cooking (I am French). Good choice in Wine and you have to have dessert...and maybe an espresso if you want to go full French
We ordered onion soup, foie Gras and duck. We have lived in France. Must say, they are as good as some of the best restaurants in Paris. The servers are professional and knowledgeable and the decor is classy. Be sure to be well dressed, the crowd was impeccably attired.
Great service, expensive, but we'll worth it. Diverse menu offering fish, steak, lamb, chicken as well as a great wine selection.
Wonderful food. Great service. A real treat.
This long standing French Restaurant is an experience in Vancouver. Classic service with classic French cuisine showcases that classic is timeless.
My Husband and I had one of the best dinners of our lives here! The escargot, sweet breads, and foie gras appetizers are to die for! I had the special, it was a filet with cold foie gras on top that melted in your mouth like butter with each bite. My husband had the prime rib and it was so big he couldn't finish it, cooked to perfection.
Fantastic dinner, service and atmosphere. What a great gift from our employer for a holiday dinner.
Service was good here at Le Crocodile. Food was mediocre, and in our opinion, not worth the price point. Went for a birthday.
My dad and I have been going here every year for his birthday for about a decade. The food remains top-notch, as does the service. I have no idea how they maintain such high standards over such a long period of time, but they do. It’s definitely a special occasion place, given the prices. But you also always get your money’s worth. I can’t say the same for some of the newer, trendier restaurants in Vancouver. P.S. The service is formal, but never snooty. P.S. #2. I can’t speak to the wine list, as neither my dad nor I drink alcohol. But if it’s anything like the food, it’ll be good.
Out of all the dishes we had, the wild mushroom soup was the best. So flavourful, with just a little bit of spice. Definitely recommend that dish.
Meal type
Good food, reasonably priced, service is irregular, pity.
The best French food in Vancouver . This is our go to place to take my wife on our anniversary. Service is excellent and the place is so classy .
Authentic French cuisine and impeccable service! My friend and I ordered their daily special scallop and sablefish/tiger prawn pasta and they were both fantastic! They also offered complementary amuse-bouche mushroom tarts and lychee sorbet which we also enjoyed. Would love to return to try more dishes!
We don't go to this place often but when we go we usually go for a special occasion. We are always happy to go back and we usually go for lunch. It is an exceptional place to eat in. The flavours come from wherever the Chef comes from and the food is always excellent. The service is also outstanding. We went this year on a day off just for this place and we were not disappointed. It is pricy but it is worth it, if you want to taste some traditional French food. They serve the wine in the proper glasses, not too full or to empty and the food is brought to the table timely, which is great because it gives you time to really savour each dish. I hope you visit this place at least once. You won't be disappointed and if you were you cannot tell them. Cheers
I love Le Crocodile. This has been a very fine dining restaurant in Vancouver for many years, and is as good today as it was the very first time we went. Congratulations to Vince for his accomplishments, and to the staff for representing his vision so well. Thank you is my understatement of the week
One of the best fine dining experience I have had and cheaper than most of them (I live near NYC).
Le Crocodile always has great service and the food is amazing. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience.
Definitely must try!! By far one of our best dining experiences. From the moment we walked into this beautiful French restaurantuntil the moment we left, we were treated to a level we rarely experience. The food was simply amazing and unforgettable, the service was outstanding. We ordered the escargot, quail and duck foie Gras, pappardelle pasta with veal cheeks, and the cariboo and prawn feature! It really could not have been any better. Thank you to the wonderful team at Le Crocodile!
Legend status Vancouver restaurant. Very hard to stay on/near top for decades but they have. Respect
The entrance is on Smithe st, valet is available. No street clothes or jeans. Beautiful candlelight, cozy fine dining restaurant. Our server and sommelier made this visit memorable. Oysters, frog legs, lobster tempura, mouth watering scallops, and the palette cleanser in between. Complimentary crocodile chocolates, what a lovely touch. This is fine french dining, so bust out that American Express card. My partner and I will definitely be coming back. Thank you chef!
Dine in
Outstanding food and great service. Interior is a bit dated.
Server Chris was amazing!!! The food was impeccable, and the service too! The restaurant was 100% worth the prices and I will definitely be back!
Food was fantastic and the restaurant has a great ability to pair the right wine. My only concern is the lack of spacing between groups.
I think there is a distinction between artistry and craft, and for me Le Crocodile is an exquisite example of craft throughout the entire experience, craft that I very much appreciated and I imagine is reproduced every evening in this restaurant. My meal started with an arugula salad, a light beginning, followed by a steak tartar, solid but unexceptional. I really enjoyed the caribou tenderloin that I had as my main, it had more texture and flavour than I would have expected from a beef tenderloin but remained enticingly smooth. I finished my meal with crème brûlée, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but I rarely fail to enjoy crème brûlée. I would describe the overall exceperience as exceptional, though a little slow, and I would definitely return here for a relaxing and well prepared meal, though I imagine you could find more inventive fare presented with a bit less formality for significantly less money.
Incredible food! I’ve had A LOT of steak tartare in my life, but this one was the best by far! My son had a pasta with scallops that tasted amazing as well. My husband’s duck confit was really good with the perfect cooking point. I highly recommend this restaurant. even though the food took long to come, the taste makes everything perfect!
This spot is fantastic! Good rates, considerable dishes and the staff are always helpful.
Had our Xmas party here. Fantastic food and service. Would recommend.
Exquisite food, excellent service. Old world charm that is seldom found these days. Very classy but not pretentious.
The BEST French restaurant in town! Very professional staff and consistency cuisine, you will never be disappointed.
The food was absolutely amazing. The service was perfect. Their wine list was extensive. A fantastic evening.
Came for lunch, had a fantastic meal. Great portions, service was attentive. Salmon was wonderful.
Excellent service, wine suggestions and selection of French cuisine. The chef's willingness to try new things and put a fresh spin on classic French dishes is refreshing and most welcome. The braised lamb shank was excellent and the surprise appetizer of fois gras brulee was exquisite. Can't wait to visit again soon.
Oh my! So delicious! And rich! Lol! I was full and happy when I left!
A glorious french dining experience in Vancouver. Pierre provided wonderful service to our relatively large group, with the right touch of humour and attentiveness. A superb wine list will not disappoint. Our appetizers included escargot, foie gras, and crab cakes, all just right. Main courses included rack of lamb, Wagyu beef, veal medallions, halibut, and salmon; all were excellent. A selection of classic French desserts including crême brulée and souffle didn't disappoint. The chocolate crocodiles (both milk and dark) were a nice touch to end the night. Highly recommended.
Service
I went for dinner with friends after work. I didn't go there at least 5 years. I found out their prices are cheaper than before, extremely noisy, bad services and food quality was not as good as before. We were so disappointed. The lady with glasses, who serve us sparkling water was extremely rude, when we tried to ask for a glass of ice on sode for sparkling water, she just ignored us at the first time. She finally served us sparkling water after 15 minutes with bad attitude. 4 of us had tried... 1 bottle of badoit sparkling water... when they served us, it's not cold enough, they pour into 2 glasses, then put into ice bucket without put cap on (which is right behind me with another bottle of sparkling inside). I found out they used our sparkling water to serve another table. Its end up, they finished our bottle without refill for us. I saw it's at least half bottle left before they put in ice bucket.. they never refill water for us and used our sparkling water to serve another table and charged us $10.50. Pineapple freeze... its tasteless Fresh foie gras... 4 small pieces half cooked foie gras and 1 scallop on lettuce with cantaloupe on side Dungeness crab cake... smaller portion as before, its falling apart, when I tried to cut it. Presentation was pretty, but its tasteless. It's used to be my favorite dish, but not anymore Salmon on veggies .. nothing special Medium rare Rack of lamb... its juicy and tasty.. it's my favorite 2 lobsters and prawns on fettuccine... mushy lobsters and prawns meat on hard tasteless fettuccine Goat cheese tart... its warm, rich favorite of cheeses Asacian apple tart with vanilla ice cream... extremely sweet with hard shell tart Pear tart..... noting special Grand marnier souffle ... it's worth to wait for 20 minutes... soft, puffy, not that sweet, yummy Warm chocolate lava cake... my friend don't like it.. the cake was too bitten on sour berry sauce We were so disappointed with food quality and services. They gave us attitude, impatient and black face. I used to go there every weekend, but not anymore. We wont go there again. I rather go to black and blue or top of Vancouver restaurant with same prices.
Amazing french restaurant . Veal specialty good.
Classic French cuisine with great service. Seating not always great - ask for a window or wall.
I liked my meal but I wasn't blown away by it either, I had the tartare then the duck. The ingredients were good and fresh but overall it lacked a bit of je-ne-sais-quoi. Also the price range being higher, I expected better. Great service otherwise.
It was really fun a tasty went here for a birthday and the chef gave us sorbet and tarts for free as well which was really fun, out of everything I tasted I highly recommend the crab risotto appetizer, frog leg appetizer, the tiramisu, and the souffle.
The service is a joke, made a reservation with no acknowledgment entering the restaurant for 10 minutes until flagging down a server (do you not have hosts?). Super rude server, decided to go to Joe Fortes literally 2 blocks away. Way better for for the same price. Don't waste your time.
Pricey but good. Not sure I would come back with those prices.
Really great food and service.. My son goes here all the time..
Of An elegant and classy French restaurant that had the veneer of sophistication and distinction but underneath didn't live up to expectations. Service was attentive but interruptive. They somehow always managed to come over to interrupt the discussion and not add value to the experience. The opportunity for the server is to find the right time to engage with the guests when a pause in the conversation occurs. The food was mediocre at best for the price paid. For entree the escargot lacked the sharp tinge of garlic that I enjoy. The canard was overcooked despite my insistance for it to be more on the red side. The sauce aimed for a fusionesque mix of traditional broth and saffron infused flavor but both fell flat on their flavor and depth. Dessert was beautifully decorated but lacked the depth and complexity of true French pastry (ie it needed more and richer butter and cream). If you are looking for an elegant locale that exudes a French flair, old money patrons and mediocre food this is the choice for you.
Wonderful experience at this restaurant. We came in for our 6 year wedding anniversary. The food is unbelievable. The manager is also very attentive and the overall service is amazing. Loved it. Totally recommend it.
We went to Le Crocodile two nights ago for dinner for the first time. To describe it in a word, it was magical. This was a meal that was long overdue. The chef sent us a complimentary warm fois gras & Calvados egg custard tart as a canape. It was so silky and buttery. Yummy. A great way to whet the appetite. Next we started with warm appetizers, the lobster tempura served in a light tangy vinegarette with diced tomatoes accompanied by a frisee salad. The tempura lobster was savory and sweet contrasting beautifully with a delicate acidic dressing. Fresh warm bread and sweet butter was also served. My hubby said it was the most memorable dish of the evening for him. My appetizer was the special of the day, a capellini pasta with shaved truffles and a langostine tail in a light butter sauce. It was wonderful. My main was the 11/2 lb Atlantic lobster steamed, peeled and served in a saffron butter sauce. I was so pleased not to have to crack the shells myself. It was done for me. I didn't mind eating the lovely steamed veggies served with it. My hubby ordered the Caribou with the langostine tail served on braised red cabbage and a red wine gravy. The chef sent out a complimentary small plate of shoestring potatoes so we could use them to sop up our sauces with. Needless to say we sent our plates back clean. The chef sent out 2 tiny scoops of pear sorbet as a palate cleanser before our final dish of the evening. We ended our evening with 2 orders of chocolate crepes with a hazelnut mousse filling, hot chocolate sauce and a tiny scoop of a house made orange ice cream. The mousse filling was so smooth and silky, the chocolate crepes were so tender and the orange ice cream was a lovely contrast. As a final complimentary hurrah the meal ended with 2 pieces of dark chocolate in the shape of a crocodile! The dining room was two thirds full. The dining room ambiance was subdued with each table having its own little lamp for a romantic setting. Service was impeccable. Our server made sure our table was free of any food debris or dirty cutlery. We used their valet parking for $14 which for downtown would have cost as much as parking the car ourselves anyways excluding the walk from a parkade. This was a meal of memories. We want to try it again soon. A must try.
Did not know places like this still existed! Impeccable service from start to finish (every detail tended to unobtrusively) so all you have to do is be present/enjoy. All the cocktails and dishes were a hit as was getting spoiled with extra treats on the house! Pro tip - pay attention to the daily specials.
Easily ranked amongst the best food in Vancouver. Prices are extremely reasonable for the quality, flavour, and calibre of service. Be sure to dress appropriately for this venue or you will likely feel out of place and look like a fool. The specials menu is often quite extensive, so don't hesitate to ask the staff to repeat any portion of the list you didn't catch.
Impeccable service. Extraordinary food. Very laid back but elegant - no jeans or street clothes but not suit and tie.
My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary dinner. Waiter was very attentive throughout the whole dinner. The food was also amazing! My boyfriend got caribou with couscous, and it was the perfect medium rare. I got the angel hair pasta with tiger prawns and scallops. The portion for this was a little small as there was only a small bite of pasta. However, the flavours were really nice and the scallops were seared perfectly. There was a very loud table in the middle of the restaurant that ruined the experience a little. A couple that were seated next to them even asked to switch to a table farther away. Everyone was giving that table dirty looks but nobody said anything to that group.
Great food and great service!
Great service and awesome staff with amazing food. My only wish is that the table wear was heavier
