Authentic French dining experience. Had the daily Quiche, asked the server for wine pairings, was not disappointed.

Wayne T

My friend and I came here for the mussels and fries during their happy hour. We loved the whole experience! The food was tasty and affordable, there was complimentary bread, the staff (German lady and French guy) serving us were so friendly, communicative, and attentive, and the ambiance was a nice touch! We also ordered the creme brulee for dessert, which was quite yummy. I will definitely return.

Fancy place with really good service and I've never been disappointed by the food. French peoples: the menu will make you think of a french quality bistro

Derek Andrews

Fresh, simple, delicious French food.

Cuuute! This French bistro looked like it could be located somewhere in France. The waiter and bartender both had strong French accents. It all felt very French. Oui! Oh ya! And my lunch was alright. I had crabcakes with fries. I've never tried crabcakes until this lunch so I don't really have anything to compare them too, but I thought they were just alright. My partners brunch choice looked amazing. The bread to start was sooo good! I'd return to this restaurant at another time

Food was ok overall. I enjoyed the bisque but the seafood linguine was very watery. The steak has an extremely salty sauce. Service was poor. I had high hopes from reading the reviews but I was disappointed

Yanni Yoong

Best Duck I’ve ever had. Escargots, oysters, everything was very very good. Definitely will come back.

A little bit of France in Gastown. Perfectly seasoned and nicely presented. Friendly, knowledgeable staff from the kitchen on the way in to the server at your table.

Good bistro style food in pleasant environment & good service. Could tone down the Sunday evening piano, though. Started out pleasantly, but it was way too long & got louder/"thumpier" as it continued

Place has an interesting menu with quite a bit of variety. While nothing I tried stands out as amazing their overall quality is pretty high and I recommend trying it out. Service is always fantastic.

Moira Casey

What a find, we stumbled upon this place in Gastown and was so impressed. As it was just after 2.30pm so the dishes were just $8.50 each we had the sauted mushrooms and mussels in white wine both just amazing. I would highly recommend this place especially if you are a lover of quality French wines. The service was exceptionally friendly

Anna Tasca

Terrible service. We waited a long time to get our food. Literally had to ask our waiter where our food and drinks were to get service. My friend and I had really high hopes for this restaurant. It was really disappointing to see all the other tables receiving quality service and we weren't. I would like to try other things of their menu, but because of the service we will not be returning.

Chang James

Nice outside patio and friendly service. Not much choice of beers and wines compared to other places

Kake2Kale

The food and wine were amazing. For starter we had escargots and pâté, for main we had moules frites and duck and for dessert we had crème caramel and marquise au chocolat. The wine was rosé (because it's summer ;-) The decoration and ambiance are also cosy and traditional in some part for a parisian french bistro. Finally, the location in gaz town is ideal. From a parisian living in Vancouver :-)

It's the best French restaurant experience you can have in Vancouver. Authentic French flavors and service with unmatched hospitality. This is definitely recommended for those who can appreciate the finesse of French culinary arts.

Fantastic evening at Jules. Atlantic salmon as part of the three course was perfect. All five others at our table were satisfied and happy with their meal (soup, Bouillabaisse, linguini, muscles, wine) and service. Nice cozy atmosphere. Not too loud so we could all converse. We learned that Lorraine always plays piano on Sunday nights. She played all the good songs you can think of. Couldn’t be any better than that.

I don't write reviews for restaurants in general however this experience makes me do this. Couple days ago I took my friend to Jules. I ordered two eggs sunny side up and my friend ordered steak. Service was fine. He seemed knowledgeable and kind enough for customers. The problem was foods. I don't even know how to call that. It was a disgustingly salty salmon under the eggs and the hash brown( I don't even want to call it. Is it really hash brown, Jules?) was burned and thin. They also decorated it with oilive oil and balsamic vinager which made it worse. I felt so terrible for my friend so I asked her how her stack was and of course she said "it's just meat". Right after this painful brunch my stomach was upset and it was the first time for me to get sick after having foods out. My purpose of writing here is not judging Jules. I am hoping their menu would improve for customer. Please do something for your menu!

Jules is a mid-range restaurant with standard fare steak, seafood, and vegetables on its menu. It's medium sized and has a half-hearted effort at decor. I went with a group and we had, steak, lobster, spinach, garlic puree potatoes, lamb chops, and salad. It was... ???? ...okay. At 35-40 bucks a plate I expected more but I wasn't altogether dissatisfied with my food. There was an upright piano that a very kind old lady played at a volume that was really off-putting. The staff was polite and attentive but not what I would call friendly. I think a lunch when the sun in high in the sky could be lovely at Jules. Sitting on their little patio and drinking wine. If you're looking for a plate of slightly upscale food that is less than 50 dollars a plate you're better off walking a block to water st. Cafe, flying pig, l'Abattoir or Al Porto.

Jules Bistro is a small French restaurant in the heart of Gastown, Vancouver. Its a cozy small restaurant with nice decoration on the walls. Servers are nice and kind and the menu is short and simple to choose from. ????????‍????They have two French & Japanese chefs. ???? ???? As a tradition, you are served with hot small bread and butter. The bread is made from sour dough and you’ll enjoy the mixture and its taste. ???? Try French onion soup in Jules with a delicious taste. You won’t regret it! ???? If you are a seafood lover, the Garlic Butter Prawns is highly recommended. The sauce on prawns are really different. ???? The Salade Niçoise is delicious, yet a little salty because of its tuna maybe. ???? Among steaks, we tried the « 63 Acres Bavette à L’échalote » that is well served and tasty. In general, you can trust the menu and enjoy the tastes!????

Billy So

We had a great time there! Sadly, the couscous sucks up all the sauce from the lamb shoulder. The salad, fries and sauce from the Bavette was good! The steak itself was a bit tough. Love the complimentary bread they provide us. So fresh and warm.

Anna Ayvazov

We dropped in mid evening NYE...and scored the last deuce..I'll give it full points...very civilized, no blaring music (live or otherwise) a decent menu typically priced in the Water Street locale, good service. I'll be back.

Helmi Kranenburg

Fabulous place! Old world elegance and great food and professional service. It is one of my favourite restaurants in downtown Vancouver.

Brian Gray

I went there with my colleagues for lunch (roughly 10 people). I had the duck leg confit and it was tasty but the skin was not as crispy as I would have liked. Everyone else were okay with there dishes except for one colleague. They were vegetarian and had told the server this multiple times. However, the server still recommended non-vegetarian plates. It was not a good time for my colleague. The service could definitely have been better.

Jules is the best authentic French brunch in town. Their Rosti dish is to die for. The staff is excellent and the expense is more than affordable. Thanks for alway satisfying my cravings Jules!

this place has such a cozy atmosphere and staff all wear masks & are super courteous and efficient. they were polite and quick abt taking down info for Covid contact tracing. place was very clean, got a table right away and my server was really nice. the French onion soup ($12) was delish though it could have had a tad more cheese and bread in it - great, rich broth tho chock full of caramelized onions, mmm! foie gras terrine wasn’t great. the bread served with it wasn’t the nicest and the FG itself was rather weak tasting. Still good but def nowhere near the best I’ve tried & IMO it wasnt worth $22 fish & chips ($17) with local fish was GREAT. Fish had a nice texture, flavour and crunch to it. I wish they’d offer this with a tartar sauce instead of spicy mayo cos tbh that was kinda odd flavour with the fish. perhaps I should’ve asked for TT tho. Oh well. I had half fries and salad with it, fries were crisp and fresh. VERY tasty! Salad wasn’t anything special tbh. A good sized lunch or light dinner.

We found this restaurant by searching the internet and are glad we chose to eat here. I wasn't too sure what to expect after hearing about the matradee. He's a busy man that is good at his job while waiting to be seated he was constantly busy ensuring the smooth operation of the restaurant. He has a personality some would think takes getting used to. We chatted with him a little bit and enjoyed our conversation with him. The food was delicious and the service was very good as well. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Always enjoy eating at Jules Bistro. This little French place has been in Gastown for over a decade- authentic and down to earth! The quality of food and service are consistent. Fresh bread, traditional French cooking. Personally I like their homemade country style pate, the Duck leg confit is my all time favorite; also their new addition on the menu, the roasted Rack of Lamb is excellent too. Tonight I have their Seafood linguini, steelhead, mussels, prawns, bay scallops and clams, saffron cream, plus a side order of asparagus and bacon, really love the way they do the seafood right with the delicious source. Satisfying meal under $40 for one. Highly recommended if you like to have authentic French food.

Had a great dinner with my wife for my birthday. Food was really good and the wine pours were very generous. I would have given a 5 star except that the steak was cooked med rare which I asked for but it was a bit on the grey shade on the surface. I hotter grill would get a more char surface and stay med rare.

I've lived in France for a number of months and it's awesome to get that authentic French experience back in gastown in all places. They have water in the bottles jugs a coat rack, the dark tacky European wood interior and very well priced French food (35 for three course meals). Would definitely come back.

We came in for dinner on a Sunday night and service was terrible. We had to wait 50 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. During this time no one came to check on us until we got someone's attention. Our food was good but the service really ruined it.

We had toasted waffles for breakfast and they were delicious. Great staff and beautiful interior decor

Overall: good service. Our server was knowledgeable and positive. Also, The ambience was rustic and delightful. The patio even offers blankets to keep you warm. Cons: the food was okay. I got the beef bourguigon and I found it unpleasantly salty. Also, it is a bit tad overpriced for what you pay for.

Wife and I first time dining at Jules tonight. Jules has been on our radar for quite some time. It did not disappoint. Everything was great. From the fresh hot in house bread with butter to the excellent service - 5 stars. Our favourite was the steel head trout and creme brulee. Steel head was cooked just right, moist and succulent. Creme brulee had an amazing torched crust and perfect sweet / bitter balance. Portions are generous and execution of culinary skills are top notch. You will not leave hungry but well fed. We’ve eaten at various French restaurants here and also east coast Quebec. This is one of the better value while also providing competent French cooking places in Canada. We did encounter a small incident with our salad (Small piece of plastic film) and informed the server, who promptly let the kitchen know. No big deal we thought but for record’s sake thought we’d let them know. The staff were very sincere, even later bringing 2 unexpected complimentary glasses of dessert cognac - delicious by the way. Come here, give them a try. We will be returning.

Food and service has always been 5 stars but my last order via Uber Eats was less than 1 star. Fries were old, stale, over-cooked, and soggy - all at once. Fish was undercooked and soggy. Croque monsieur was low quality. Quality of food for in person vs delivery was night and day. I don't think it was due to the time in transport, but because of the low quality output of the kitchen this time.

Came here for a late lunch. Had the croque madame which was pretty good. It had a larger portion of fries than I had expected so that was nice. Also came with a bread basket and butter. The service is the main reason I'm giving it a 5 stars though. One of the best I've had for such a simple, short meal. The waiters/waitresses were very attentive and made you feel like they genuinely cared about your dining experience and providing exceptional service rather than simply acting nice to get a tip or just "doing the job". The décor looks very nice as well, very French (of course). Will definitely be coming back to try dinner. I actually regret not tipping more for once.

Jules was one of my favourites. I was in the mood for French food and phoned in late and was happy-surprised to find a table. When I arrived it was empty and the comment from the staff, which provided great service, was Covid-19 (I called others restaurants before Jules and they were all full). I think the reason was different. I think Jules is confused. Lamb with couscous, shrimp with rice, teriyaki mushroom burger....what are you thinking? Asian? Indian? English? The cooking was average, my lamb was nothing to write home about. I think there’s more to it than Covid-19 as to why they were empty yesterday. I’m not going to go back, at least until they remember they are a French restaurant. And, Arab music played by a French Rafi, seriously??

Love this restaurant, it's good french food at an affordable price. The ambience is great, service was also great. We had the escargots and the mussels and fries. Escargot dish was amazing. Mussels and fries were great too but the broth was a little too salty for me (be sure to get bread to soak up the broth). All in all, it would be a 4.5 star review for me. But having said that, I would definitely return to this restaurant because it is so reasonable priced and food is good. Definitely worth a visit if you want french food!

We enjoyed a traditional French dinner at this humble and quaint little place in Gastown. Since it's our 1st time there we got all the quintessentials, French Onion Soup, Escargot, Beef Bourguignon and Creme Brulee, everything was very tasty and priced very reasonably. Service was wonderful and the room had a nice rustic feel. The Cocktails we had were very good too. Will definitely return to try other things on the menu.

I heard a lot of good reviews about this place and decided to give it a try. I order the traditional French onion soup which I find to be ok. A plate of Duck confetti which consist of duck leg, bacon slices, and the yellow beans. I also ordered a plate of salad because I realized I need some vegetable after heaving card and meat. The overall food tasty all right and the waitresses are very prompt to serve me. When Ieft, one of the main chief warmly saluted me which made the experience more authentic.

Was at Jules for Happy hour the other day after an exhausting week. We have been a few times before. After returning from Greece, I have to say the Calamari was far superior at Jules, and the red wine was perfect. Service was great and really made our day. Extremely poor service, the gray haired server was extremely rude & aggressive. I have no time for this...". Lovely patio in the summer with a great wine selection and small cheese board! We often come here for a quick cheese and wine treat when it is sunny out! They also have great dishes as well, and the staff is quite nice!

The steak was soooo juicy and with the herb butter was sooo nice. I dont remember the side menu, but it was also good! my friends and I ordered happy our menu but i dont remember the name. It was baguette and three kinds of cheese. It was also very good. I could understand why many famous cooking schools are in france haha. Every food was really amazing and the service was also good! I really really recommend this restaurant!

The room had a slightly musty smell and the duck casserole just tasted of beans. No green vegetables either, stodgy and disappointing.

(Translated) The incredible hospitality, the unparalleled service and the food, everything was really good. We ordered a boeuf bourguignon, it was tasty. The decor is elegant and warm. My only slight downside was the music, which did not fit in with the French bistro style. In short, it's a great place to have a good meal. I would happily stay there again. (Original) L’accueil incroyable, le service hors pair et la bouffe, tout était vraiment bien. Nous avons commandé un bœuf bourguignon, c’était savoureux. Le décor est élégant et chaleureux. Me and my boyfriend tried out Jules Bistro for a fancy date (mostly because my name is also Jules) and it was awesome! It was quiet the day we went and we had a really nice table by the window looking out onto the patio and the streets of Gastown, super cute. The interior was very Parisian and kept with the French bistro vibe. We ended up getting some cocktails and we both got the feature fixed meal which came with a soup and a steak for around $40. We both got the French onion which was SO GOOD I couldn't have had two of them. The steaks were amazing too, so juicy and big, with a nice salad on the side. We loved everything about it. The bill was a little over $100 for two. We both agree we will be going there again once we're ready for another fancy date. So worth checking out!!!

Located in Gastown, this place is a must try. We got the 3 course dinner, which costs only 39 bucks. The steak was cooked perfectly and the butter on top made it taste even better. The appetizer was a salad, which was also very tasty and the dessert was just as good. The service was excellent, overall this place was great, not pretentious and had great flavors. We came here to celebrate my mother's birthday. What a fantastic dining experience! From the service to the wine, everything was fantastic. We shared the mussels to start, bistro salad and the chicken liver pate. All were exceptional. Then we all had the steak frites or the duck confit. The steak was one of the most tender I have ever had. The duck conffit was hands down the bear duck confit I have ever had! I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or a nice dinner with close friends or a loved one. Cannot wait to come back and sample the menu some more.

Favourite French resto in Vancouver Authentic, tasty and delicious French cuisine here, turns out its my favourite place for a very decent rib eye steak and fresh cut fries, love the asparagus and mushrooms sides that tops off the dish. This place is adorable and sooooo delicious. We needed something to warm us up after walking around Gastown and followed the reviews about the fantastic French onion soup…and we were not disappointed!! Bursting with flavor and so filling. Also, a great wine list and our server had great recommendations. Service is impeccable and the place itself is so cute! And they were playing classic cafe music so the vibe was flawless. We went at lunch so it was much quieter, only us and a few other patrons. (Two of which were a couple of very rowdy, loud guys who sat at the bar and talked the ear off the servers…let me tell you, the waitress had the patience of a god, lol.) Good food...could use some improvement but it was alright. Chicken liver mouse was very delicious...full of flavour, rich but wasn't too heavy. Lobster bisque was good too...a bit pricey at $18 each though. Ordered scallops risotto...scallops cooked perfectly and good sized too. Steelhead filet cooked nicely and still juicy...skin side nicely pan fried and crispy...very tasty. Ordered the beef bourguignon...rich flavour but beef was on the drier side so definitely needed the sauce...also ordered lamb shoulder...came in cubes and texture was a bit dried. I found the seafood dishes to be better flavour and good portions...whereas, the beef and lamb were a bit disappointing and smaller. Service was great; however, no AC and just relied on a couple of ceiling fans...depending where you are seated, could be fairly warm and stuffy. Surprised with the hot weather (30+C) that there is no AC (or perhaps they don't turn it own). You can imagine sitting there for 2.5 hrs in a hot and stuffy room, trying to enjoy dinner. Overall, it was good but I think they could tweak things a bit. I would give it a solid 3.5 stars, but not quite 4 yet.

Our new favorite restaurant in Gastown. It’s a quaint restaurant with a great rustic vibe. The service was excellent, the server was knowledgeable and my dairy-free, gluten-free needs were met. The beef tartar is a must and so is their French fries with some mayo. Yum! Our mains were beef bourguignon and the steelhead trout.

Alex Mak

Well prepared and present dishes and a good variety from and compact menu. Very much enjoyed the French onion soup which was well done with just the right amount of cheese and the steelhead dish. Fish was cooked to perfection. The fries were really good, classic but well done. I'm tired of fancied up fries, it was nice to get back to roots

C M

My wife and I went to Jules Bistro for Dine Out Vancouver 2022. We were impressed by the wine selection for such an intimate bistro, we started with a lovely Chalet Pouilly Fuisse and paired our main course with a glass of pilot noir. The set menu items we chose were the escargot quiche appetizer, lamb sirloin and lemon tart + panna cotta. The appetizer was very nice with plump escargot and delicate pastry. The lamb was cooked to a perfect medium rare served with a fantastic au jus demi-glaze. It was accompanied by the tiniest of a garlic encrusted tomato which we both wished could have been bigger to match its flavors. The desserts were fine. The prices were inline with these times of COVID-19 restrictions and we were pleased to have supported a local, small business who deserved our patronage.

My husband and I had reservations, they gave us the best seats (right by the window). Decor is 10/10, the atmosphere probably an 8 only because there’s a million tables all squished together and it can be hard to move around (although I suppose that just makes it more authentic, as Paris is like that too). The food was absolutely amazing! I had a steak and it was delicious! The spices were just right and I had a massive heaping salad on the plate. The only thing I wish they had with the steak were more carbs like potatoes or something. We had dessert too, I had chocolate cake and my husband had the ginger ice cream with (I think it was carmelised pears?) I highly recommend to go here for a romantic and tasty dinner!

Doing a live review on the service. We are a table of two. We were sat 50 minutes ago. Took 15 minutes for the server to come to table. Now 35 minutes beyond that at 50 minutes from sitting down we do not have our appetizers. Not sure about the other reviews but this is really bad service.

I came in with my mom for Dine Out. The atmosphere was great. My food was pretty good but a bit expensive for what it was. My mom's food was not good at all. Her fish entree was awful, honestly should not have left the kitchen. Dry and off-tasting with no seasoning. Strange because it was a set menu that night so you'd think everything be done right. Thankfully the waiter was understanding and they handled the problem with grace. I hate to critique a local business but they need to make sure the head chef is maintaining standards on EVERY dish when you are charging those prices.

Very quaint French bistro in gastown. Service was friendly and authentic. The restaurant had a very old vintage feel. We came for mother's day in 2016 and they offered free meal for the mother. The dishes were fairly priced and they had classics like moules frites which were fresh and tasty.

Pascal Pillot

This was a comfortable little bistro, I went here for lunch with a friend and the food was quite good, the service prompt, and the overall tone of the experience relaxing and conducive to conversation. We were rebuffed when we requested the bill be split at the end, which I found a little odd, and the food is a bit pricey, but no pricier then other establishments in the neighbourhood and probably worth the cost for most diners.

Went here for happy hour last summer. Ive decided to write a review as i still remember the experience. The part that I remember best is having to inquire about one of our dishes that did not come. We were told that happy hour was over and even though we had ordered much earlier during happy hour, we would not be receiving our dish. The server then asked if we would would like to order off the regular menu or get the bill, we opted to get the bill. This may have been a one off experience, but I still remember it and have yet to go back, but I do have to say the food here is definitely worth a try.

Cockroach was crawling all over the table. Do not recommend anyone to eat here!!! Looked through Vancouver Coastal Health’s inspection report for Jules and they are not in compliance. History of pest problems in the inspection reports. Servers do not care. No apology from staff nor manager, was like it was the norm to them. Disgusted!

When for brunch; had the Egg's Sunny side up and the Breakfast Cassoulet. Both were fantastic. Service was great and the staff was very friendly.

We went on a day that only have the dine out menu. The three course meal was delicious but not exceptional. I particularly liked what my boyfriend had. On my end, the quiche was a little dry and the shepherds pie had a strong bitter after taste from the spinach/mushroom that I couldn’t get over with. As a French restaurant, they had really good dessert and ambience was great for a casual date.

The restaurant had excellent atmosphere, very cozy and intimate. The food was very well done: I had the duck confit, which was well prepared, moist and flavorful.

An amazing place to feel yourself in France... The authentic vibe, the wonderful food, and the lovely staff make your day memorable. I tried their famous onion soup which was one of the best! The bavette a l echalote was very well prepared. To me, the chilli flavour in my dessert (chocolate tart) was a new experience which was interesting.
