Excellent food, nice comfortable seating, decently sized menu, wide variety of drinks/cocktails. My only criticism, and this may have just be a one-off, was that the service was quite slow when I was there, it took over 20 mins to rustle up a soup/sandwich. Would give it the benefit of the doubt and try again some other time

Thanks to Rachel for making my lunch fantastic! Had the French Onion soup and it now has my #1 rank of all the FOS i've had acorss the country (tied with a little place in Quebec city). It was super hot, super tasty and full of cheese and onions. Ordered with Bistro salad which was a perfect paring. Only suggestion - maybe offer bacon on the FOS, since you put it on everything else :-) no pics to post as it was soo good, i forgot to take any.

The beef bourguignon is really good - homey, warm, comforting and packed with flavour. I didn’t find the Mac and cheese as flavourful and will probably pass next time. Ordered from ubereats so cannot comment on service and ambiance, but the order came quickly. The sauce from the beef unfortunately spilled quite a bit during the delivery. I think they should use better sealed containers with such saucy dishes (aluminum foil container with just a cardboard seal).

Amazing service from Chris and fantastic food! We came in to a comfortable atmosphere and a charming server named Chris. He helped us through the menu and was very pleasant to chat with about the city. We started with some chips and dip and ordered grilled cheese and tomato soup, a mini macaroni and cheese, and a baby burgoo. All of the flavours were fresh and clean, the combinations tasted phenomenal and left us feeling great afterwards. I really love everything about this location and will definitely be coming back!

The perfect place if you are looking for comfort food, especially on a rainy Vancouver day. They are known for their French onion soup and rich comfort foods. They have a lovely laid-back cabin’esque vibe. A nice place to stop for a patio drink in the summer or a cosy warm meal in the winter.

Nice place. Good atmosphere. Service was good. Food was good, but not perfect. Crab bisque was slightly too tomato-y, but had good amount of crab. Pot pie crust wasn't crispy and flaky, it was soft, and the filling had a slight tanginess to it instead of a rich creaminess.

First of all, I have to say that I used to really like this restaurant. The food and service were always great, and I used to dine there at least once month. However, I'm not sure what has happened recently (maybe a change in management?). Almost without exception, every time I have been there since 6-7 months ago, the service has been extremely poor. One time they don't have any olives, one time they forget to put in our order of appies, another time they don't have any vodka left, and the list goes on. I always gave them the benefit of the doubt, because the food was great. However, even the food quality has diminished the last couple of times. The "Mac and more" that I got last time gave me lots of trouble the next day. The time before that, my soup was warm at best. I wish things were not this way, and as much as it saddens me, but I don't think I'll be going back for a while.

I love Burgoo. Truly I do. What I don’t understand is why they insist on over spicing their food. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a Burgoo. Over a year ago- before COVID. A different location than this one. I order the French onion soup and they have put so much salt in it it literally burns my tongue. When I mention it to the waitress she simply says that’s how the chef likes it. Salt is something that you add later to taste. You don’t dump a ton of the stuff in right from the beginning. So a year goes by and I don’t go back to the place because of that. They have a great menu, and I like a lot of stuff on the menu, and so the other day the girlfriend and I were staying downtown and decided to go to the location on Burrard Street. I had an order of the meatballs, and of the tomato soup. Big surprise. I don’t know what it was if it was pepper, or if it was some kind of chili, but both the meatballs and the soup left my mouth burning from heat. Honestly, I have never in my life eaten tomato soup or a plate of meatballs that left my mouth burning as much as these two dishes did. Why somebody would prepare food this way, rather than just letting the person who ordered the food put a little bit of pepper in it if they wanted to, is beyond me. Lesson learned. I’ll never go back again.

A group of us came here for some brunch before heading to the theatre. I've never been here before and a friend suggested we come here. Overall, the food was excellent. It was surprisingly filling which was great. I also had their warm cider with rum which hit the spot during that rainy cold day. Our server was great as well, we weren't able to get his name; but whoever you are, you were great!

The BEST grilled Cheese! When my wife and I come over to Vancouver it becomes a special highlight to come to this restaurant. Their slogan “Food for Comfort” is the perfect fit. I ordered from Uber eats recently. The Mac and cheese is to die for as usual, but I was a bit disappointed with the rest. I ordered the salmon bahnmi and it was quite flavourless which I was surprised by as I have eaten at Burgos many times and never been let down in the flavour department. Not sure if it’s the spec of the sandwich or if I just got a ‘lazy’ one. Packaging was pretty thorough and they put your name on which is cute... but next time I will have to stick with the grilled cheese. Unfortunately the pescatarian item wasn’t something I would recommend if you’re looking for burgoo’s usual standards.

I placed a four-item order for Burgoo on UberEats at 6:30pm. Not their fault that the delivery guy showed up at 7:35, but when I got the food my soup and sandwich were still warm, and the ginger ale and dessert were still cold! Delicious crab bisque and El Cubano sandwich, and the cherry cheesecake is so yummy I almost teared up when I tasted it. Can’t wait to order from here again!

Good comfort food place, but we recently got a takeout and my grilled cheese sandwich (gooey cheese grillées) was quite small and didn’t look appealing. This is also coming from a small person like me who eats little. I should have just made a regular grilled sandwich with toaster bread than paid $20 for this.

Getting less and less impressed by Burgoo each time I go. I think the only decent thing they can do is the Mac n Cheese or Fondue, but if it's not gluttonous they don't really handle it too well. The waiter also dripped orange juice on me and didn't think twice - no apology. I like the space though.

So sad to have to rate this place so low. We had such high hopes, but everything from the food to the service was extremely disappointing. We sat waiting for our server to return to take our order for far too long, our guacamole appetizer took far too long to come to us, soups were pretty good, but it all went downhill from there. Hubby had the chicken pot pie, it was a soupy mess that tasted overwhelmingly of sage and nothing else. I ordered the turkey dinner, the cranberry sauce had a mouldy flavor, stuffing was very mushy & not very tasty & the tukey dish was like a turkey stew of sorts and every piece of turkey I bit into was mostly a clump of fat. We sat around for an alarming amount of time after receiving our food, no one came to ask how our food was, our serve finally walked past us after about 20 minutes and we had to call her over to ask if she had forgotten about us at which point she informed us she was no longer serving us as she had finished her shift. We asked who had taken over and to send her over. When she did and we told her we were unhappy and wanted the bill and were ready to leave we had to sit around and wait what felt like another small eternity to get our bill and leave. The servers were both apologetic & kind, but their service was extremely disappointing. All in all, we would not recommend dining here, nor will we be returning.

Came here for dinner! Had their Lively Lavender Lemonade, it was refreshing but wish the floral flavour was more pronounced. No complaints about their sandwiches (Eggplant Caprese & El Cubano) and salads. The El Cubano was not overly spicy despite the capicollo. Sat on the patio along Burrard, which was peaceful aside from an individual on the street leaning over the rail area to ask for money.

I had the Mac and cheese. I asked to add bacon. The server asked if I wanted bread crumbs. I assumed that it meant, was I fine with bread crumbs on top of the Mac and cheese. What I found out later when paying for the bill, it meant add persillade, for an extra charge. The server explained that persillade is a fancy way of saying bread crumbs. A quick Google search says that persillade is a mixture of parsley with garlic, herbs, oil and vinegar. Not exactly describing bread crumbs is it. So in retrospect, I should have said no, I don't want bread crumbs for an additional charge which wasn't explained at the time of ordering. I will not be back to this restaurant.

Personally I love food with a lot of flavour. Every time I have been here I find the food to be a bit bland and also they have odd recipes. The music is a little next level unless you like a house music vibe for eating out. Its a shame because I live a block away. Would go back if I really needed to just get food in my system! Nothing special.

We got the shepherd’s pie, butter chicken, and ratatouille, which all tasted fresh, but flavour-wise they were just okay. They serve a lot of comfort food, and have a few vegetarian options. I won't be back, because the food is so-so, and personally I don't think it's worth it.

We called a couple days ahead to reserve a table for lunch, as a work related outing with 9 parties. We asked to pre-order as we had a limited time for lunch. We were told no. We arrived and the server took our drink order in a reasonable amount of time however forgot the honey and lemon requested by 2 of the parties and the waters the others ordered was room temperature vs ice water. It took a long time for the server to return with the honey and lemon and take our order. At this point we had been there over 15 minutes without ordering. When we were able to order, 1 party expressed food allergy concerns and specifically asked about the chicken wings. The server said the sauce of the day and the party said "No, I can't have that". I will order the ribs. When the ribs arrived, they were sauced with what the party had clearly stated she couldn't eat. Someone asked for extra napkins and they were told they could have one napkin. The beef bourguignon was spicy, which was unexpected. When the party asked for mashed potatoes with that, she was told that would be $5 extra. It was questionable if the shrimp sandwich actually had shrimp included. When you pay $20 for a very small sandwich you expect to be able to see what you are paying for. For comparison, I sometimes have the lobster grill cheese from Salty's which is a considerable size sandwich with a hefty helping of lobster for the same price of $16. To be clear the shrimp sandwich is $16 however the restaurant forces a 17.5% gratuity. We now expect that is forced as the service was terrible. We never received a courteous tone however received several scowls and snarky replies. No one came back to check on us after being served. We had all long finished eating and no one came with the bill. I went to go find the server and politely mentioned we were ready and she replied in an irritated tone that she was already working on that. The celebration of our colleague was dampened by sub-par customer service, a long wait, underwhelming food and a forced gratuity. Please don't overlook the fact that one party didn't get to eat at all due to the servers lack of doing her job correctly. The only nice thing that happened was when the party who had the beef bourguignon mentioned she couldn't eat her lunch, as it was too spicy, was compted the mash potatoes in lieu.

Food was very fresh and hot. I ordered the Kentucky burgoo and mashed potatoes on the side. In my opinion, the Kentucky burgoo was definitely too salty and too much meat to eat by itself. It was perfect to each with the mashed potatoes though. I wished that the meat dish is like a set menu - a smaller entree but comes with a side of starch. It's too much for one person to finish the Kentucky burgoo without other starch dishes to dilute the strong flavor.

Burgoo has been one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver for years. I ordered take-out this evening from the downtown location and was sorely disappointed. I know the Mac n'More has been taken off the menu (another disappointmet), so when I called to place my order for macaroni and cheese, I was pleasantly surprised to be given the option to add items to my order (I opted for breadcrumbs, bacon and onions). My expectations were lower given that this was a take-out order and couldn't be prepared in the usual way. However, the macaroni was basically covered in congealed cheese with a few pitiful pieces if bacon and covered in red onion. In fact, the only flavor I could taste was red onion; it was overwhelming. I wouldnt normally pick on a dish like this, but $20 for a small dish that tasted terrible needed to be shared. Bring back the original recipes! I'll opt for somewhere else before ordering from Burgoo again as standards have clearly fallen.

Always have dessert before dinner if you can. Had an amazing upsidedown cheesecake. Great crumble with sugar crust. Highly recommend. Also the beef bourguignon is 100% worth it. They serve with sweet mini pickles and this stellar mash. The grilled cheese is pretty good but I paid for extra toppings and didn't get any! The ratatouille isn't bad but it's not my favorite. Their kale caeser I would recommend for sure.

We came here for brunch/lunch. It was our first time visiting this location. We had visited other two locations in the past. The interior design and ambiance are better here and having more light from big windows at the front. The customer service was great. We ordered a cup of coffee, a feature soup and salad as well as the Burgoo and eggs. The feature soup was Manhattan tomato chowder with bacon and lots of veggies. The flavour was wonderful that it was not as strong and salty as the Burgoo and eggs. The Burgoo and eggs was like a stew with lots of lima peas, lamb, beef, smoked ham, tomatoes, corn, okra, molasses, scrambled eggs, lots of cheese and a warm biscuit. Indeed I felt quite thirty after eating the Burgoo and eggs. It was quite salty. The small biscuit was not big enough to go with Burgoo and eggs. I packed the leftover home to eat with rice. I could eat it with some baguette or bread. Burgoo offers a great variety of sandwiches, salad and soup. It is better than Subway, Quiznos, or the burgers from other fast food restaurants. Burgoo's costs more, but it is worth it and you are paying for the quality.

I often eat at a restaurant twice in the same day, (first & last time) not so at Burgoo . Twice was lunch and dinner and boy was it good. Tasty chicken sandwich and salad. Shared with my wife. The best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. That was lunch, for dinner, we had chicken pot pie and shepherds pie. When was the last time you had a real lamb shepherds pie? So sorry that Covid makes it so hard for restaurants. These people comply to the letter , patio and take out, both were good experiences. Can’t wait for this chain to come to Edmonton. In the mean time, another excuse to visit Van. By the way, our trip was deemed essential. An urgent family health issue. Also nice that Burgoo is so close to St. Paul’s and to Century Plaza. Thumbs up to them too. To get 5 stars from a rednecked Alber tan you gotta be good. No problem with this one. Jan & Gerald Side note, thanks to the very kind young couple that annonomously paid for our lunch. I’ll have to rethink redneck. If this couple represent Vancouver, You Rock.

First time visiting Burgoo, was for a late lunch. The place itself is really nice and the staff are wonderful. The biggest issue was deciding on what to eat, which is a pleasurable change from what I'm used to, so many great choices. I finally decided on good old mac and cheese. Straight up, this was the best mac and cheese I've ever eaten. Next time I visit here, the issue will be, do I make that my usual, or try one of the many other things that had me drooling. I had a carrot soup and kale Caesar salad for about $15. The carrot soup was more liquid than i would have liked... For the price, i expected both the portions to be much bigger. I've had their dos diablos sandwich at a previous visit and that was really yummy. The service was great! Just wish the prices were more reasonable.

What a great little spot for some delicious comfort food! The service was excellent, attentive but not interruptive. I sat up at the bar and loved the atmosphere of this cozy spot. Had a local pop to drink, which was very nice. Was told that the Mac and cheese was not to be missed - added bacon and it was so good! Delicious! First visit and was so impressed. The mushroom soup was great and the Dos Diablos sandwich was by far the best sandwich I've ever eaten. Seems crazy to rave about a sandwich but it was seriously so good - so cheesy, great flavour and perfect crunch to gooey ratio. Others at our table had salads, biscuits and the French Onion soup and were thoroughly impressed as well. We saw the macaroni go by and it looked amazing as well - will have to try on the next visit because we'll definitely be back.

The food and service was top notch. There is a good variety on the menu with something for everyone. I had the tuna poke and the guacamole when I visited and enjoyed both. Everyone in our group had something different from the menu and nobody was disappointed.

A neighbourhood Gem. Been here twice and we are going to be regulars. We have the meatballs, tuna poke, fondue, beef bourguignon, shepherd's pie, Kentucky burgoo, chunky chicken salad and the strawberry cheese. Outstanding flavours. Your tastebuds won't be disappointed. Price is great considering it's downtown. Have a go, you will love it!

A nice place but the food was not great. The shrimp and andouille in the jambalaya was tough and rubbery, but the chicken was most. It was well seasoned. The biscuits were dry and definitely needed the butter.

Lately I’ve been getting take out and the servers are dismissive, slow and borderline rude when I got to pick-up. A process that should take 20 seconds to pick up takes 5+ minutes (and my food has been sitting there ready the whole time). I won’t be adding a tip for any of my pickup again if I ever go back.

Absolutely phenomenal food served by a friendly and upbeat staff in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. I was in town for a business trip and a colleague recommended that I try Burgoo, and I'm so glad I did. I tried the Kentucky Burgoo and it's one of the best I've had. The warm Burgoo biscuits are a great complement as well, and the great local craft bears work well with their menu. Even though I'm only in town for a couple of days, I'm definitely planning on coming back!

Took my Mom out for dinner while she was visiting from out of town. Hostless was great, server was great - the food and drinks were AMAZING! We didn't finish half of our beef bourguignon and had it packed to go and looked forward to sharing it the next day but forgot it on the table when we left. A few minutes after leaving we ran back to grab it but it had already been cleared. We were visibly disappointed. Then one of the girls working (maybe hostess or manager ...who can also bartend) offered to make us a whole new one free of charge! We were so thrilled and appreciative. It probably seems small, but after a stressful day it really meant a lot to us!!! Thank you Downtown Burgoo! You made our day ❤️

Ordered the Mac and cheese, bœuf bourguignon, lobster bisque and ratatouille from Uber eats. The food was really good, except for the very poor packaging of the Mac and cheese. It was in a weak foil and paper container and placed at the very bottom of the bag, then all the other food was piled on top of it. I got a refund from uber eats because the Mac and cheese was inedible due to the damaged container and spill onto the other containers in the bag (see photo). I called the restaurant to let them know how to improve their packing and they were very kind. Would give them 5 stars for service and food but taking one away for the poor thinking/planning with the Mac and cheese packaging.

Unfortunately we have never been in to eat on location, but we order from this location at least once a week through door dash. We have tried most of the menu at this point and never had anything that wasn't absolutely amazing. So extremely worth the price. Easily our favourite place to order from. We have never had any problems with the delivery, it has always been just what we ordered even if we requested alterations. Cannot recommend them enough.

Today two friends and I met for lunch at Burgoo downtown. We hadn't seen each other for a month or more, so we looked forward to catching up. Unfortunately, THE VOLUME OF THE MUSIC IN THE RESTAURANT MADE TALKING CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE. Our server readily agreed to turn the music down, but if that was done, no change was discernible. Who has decided that it is a pleasant experience for patrons to have to shout and strain to hear over music while eating? Note to management: not all customers have their faces buried in their phones. For all that it matters, I will not be going to any of the Burgoos again. My friends and I will go somewhere where we can actually interact.

The staff may be friendly however the food has always been hit or miss. I would stay away from certain items on the menu using fresh uncooked tomatoes. The soups are really good yet their entrees are not the best. If you're craving a soup, this is the place to be. If not, I would recommend going somewhere else.

Really bad. Ordered a prawn appetizer for 13.50 and it was loterally 5 small shrimp that jad been mutilated and hanging together by threads. Returned them got a refund. Also ordered the tastiest chicken sandwich and ot was one of the worst sandwiches I have had. Barely any chicken, the apples and cucumbers were sliced in huge thick pieces so just fell out of the sandwich the moment I picked it up. There was barely any chicken on the sandwich and it was bland a flavourless. My husband and I have been to the north van burgoo many times and the food has always been good. I had the same sandwich there many times and it was amazing. It seems like this location is the issue.

I had a really long wait for seats. I was told it would be only 15 minutes, but it was over an hour!! The Sheppard's pie was extremely bland and it took too long. The staff are not that nice either, but I would still recommend this restaurant to any tourists with lots of spare time and that don't want to go far from the Burrard Hotel. The napkins are very plush.

Food is good. Staff are friendly. Their menu is quite cheese heavy (fondue, grilled cheese, Mac and cheese, etc. ) So assuming you are not lactose intolerant this is a good spot to grab some comfort food.
