Here you will be able to see the reviews of real people like you who bought the services of Blue Water Cafe (Restaurant) around Vancouver territory (Canada).
To this day this business gets a rating of 4.7 stars out of 5 and this rating was based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is virtually the best one, and it is based on a very large number of scores, so we may think that the score is quite credible. If many people have bothered to leave their score when they are satisfied, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to put opinions when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Restaurant is classified in the category of Seafood restaurant.
The food was exceptional, we sat outside on the heated patio and it was so comfortable. Also, our server Kris was fantastic. One of our diners is celiac and he was very thoughtful as patient around going through the menu.
Went here for my wedding dinner with both of our families. 17 people in one of their back group rooms. To say the food was world-class would be an understatement. Everything was PERFECTLY prepared and delivered to the table simultaneously. The Seafood Towers were a highlight. Additionally, the sommelier allowed me to saber open a bottle of champagne at my request! This was an unforgettable dining experience. l look forward to going back again for our one-year anniversary.
Exquisite service which includes extremely knowledgeable bartenders (Adam is top notch). I was a regular patron pre pandemic but had to unfortunately take an unplanned leave of absence due to the pandemic. When I arrived this week (under essential working guidelines) I was greeted by Jennifer, a historic employee, remembering my name and personal details. Best sushi menu and tasting quality in North America and their filet will rival their neighbors across the street also owned by the Table Top Group.
I'm all for quality over quantity but some restaurants in this city just take advantage of people. When you order a whole lobster and they serve it to you with an empty brain shell, not cool, my friend asked for it and they served it to her frozen. I've been to other restaurants from the aquilni group and this was the most disapointing. I felt ripped off, service was good though.
A couple of friends and I found ourselves in Yaletown on a Friday night after work, feeling like a couple of drinks and some food, nothing too formal, I mean some wings and nachos would've been just fine. We had no reservations anywhere so we knew we'd have to try out luck sitting at a bar somewhere. After a fail attempt at Elisa we walked across the street to Blue Water and they were able to seat us at the sushi bar. Perfect! What was supposed to be a drink or 2 and move onto somewhere else, turned into an impromptu omakasi style experience. Kussi Oysters, Hamachi, negitoro, spot prawn sashimi and king crab mac & cheese were ordered by us before we asked the chef to just make us whatever he wanted. So we got some seared A5 Wagyu nigiri, tuna goma-ae and the most wonderful unagi I have ever had while we enjoyed various cocktails. I loved my barrel rested Negroni. On top of the amazing food we got, big thanks to the wait staff and of course the sushi chef for making a great night out of nothing for us. Kudos!

Son's dinner with his GF. They loved the fresh oysters (from Seafood on Ice menu). The Sablefish (miso sake glaze, baby bok choy, edamame, quinoa, shiitake mushrooms, yuzu dashi) he ordered was delicious! He gave 4.5 stars out of 5.
I have fallen in love. I work as a concierge and have always recommended Blue Water Cafe because I have heard great things about it from my colleagues. I finally was treated for a dinner here for my birthday by my partner. I was not disappointed! I highly recommend the Seafood Sampler for Two (picture attached). It was well valued and each dish was amazingly refreshing. It is well worth its value. Besides the appie, I ordered the poached lobster and we started with some oysters. We left with our bellies full, which is sometimes a little difficult with fine dining! Thank you for the amazing experience. I'm glad I can put an experience to the name as a concierge.
great seafood here ,one of the most popular restaurant in town.service was intimate and timely .
Best seafood I've had in Vancouver and probably ever. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. My bartender guided me through a great culinary experience with great food and drink pairings. They also knew I liked to take pictures of the food, and made sure that I could get great shots.
Fabulous food and service in a wonderful location in the heart of Yaletown. I've never been disappointed at the quality of the food and really enjoyed the sushi selection as well. Amazing sushi quality rivaling many fine Japanese restaurants. Goes without saying that their seafood is fantastic.
Amazing environment and super attentive service. The meals were fresh and enchanting. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends. Fair rates and generous portions. Good job.
Amazing food and drink. First class but 4 stars because it's arguably the most overpriced restaurant in the lower mainland. If you've got fat pockets definitely give it a shot, but there's a plethora of better fine dining value in the city.
One of the best restaurants for seafood. Food is fresh and the presentations are stunning. Wait staff were attentive and created a great atmosphere. Would highly recommend the seafood tower to get a little taste of everything.
I was dining at the sushi bar so could watch the cook preparing sashimi and sushi. They do not use sauce but instead, they add leaf or special garlic or some other kind of accessories to the food. Great place. It was an amazement of watching them cutting raw fish. At the end, the waitress gave me two mini dessert for free. and they are just about the right sweetness.
Have an outstanding dinner here on Dec 26. Thought all dishes we ordered were top notch except for the scallop ceviche which I thought could use a bit more salt and heat to balance the sourness. Blue Water is definitely one of the top restaurants for seafood in Vancouver.
Amazing everything. Service, food and atmosphere. Every time.
Went there for my birthday dinner, overall a very pleasant dining experience. Awesome food with fresh ingredients, good atmosphere, fantastic service.
Service makes definitely a difference and here it wasn’t corresponding to the restaurant. We went to this restaurant during our trip to BC and we didn’t have many clothes so I definitely felt underdressed by the looks of the waitresses. After the waiter was also very over forceful and I didn’t appreciate. The meal was good but not out of this world. Nothing unexpected about it. I would not recommend. Three stars because of the atmosphere, it’s nice and drinks are good.
I have been here many times and adore it! They get all of fresh seafood, amazing wine list and cocktails. The only issue I have had not getting the same service level as older people because I am younger. Example not de crumbing our table but the server did it for the older couple next to us. Please make sure you are treating each table, fairly! I always tip very well! Cant assume, you know what they say!
Absolutely phenomenal birthday dinner. Excellent service and, as always, superb food. There were also a few nice surprises along the way. Truly one of Vancouver’s best restaurants, if not the best. We also had a pre-wedding dinner here, which was also beyond excellent.
Wonderful dinner experience. Amazing Aburi
You are first greeted by friendly and attentive servers. We sat outside in the patio and enjoyed the Yaletown vibe. The menu is as online - extensive, descriptive and there is also a specials menu which includes the fresh daily (whole) fish. Appetizer: seafood tower was good, 10 oysters, 5 clams and 4 mussels (but one of them was empty!) The prawns were large but it wasn't a favorite, and many little dishes like scallop ceviche, salmon, jellyfish and tuna. Mains: most of the pictures you see on reviews are of the sable fish. It's a wonderful dish and well worth to try. The scallop was cooked to perfection and also enjoyed by everyone. In general, I had a great dinner but there were several things lacking to make this a perfect evening. The sauce for both dishes were strong and more on the salty side for my tastes. I was hoping to be surprised by the flavours, and was looking for creativity and imagination in the dishes. I did get a great evening of good food and service.
The food was exceptional, we sat outside on the heated patio and it was so comfortable. Also, our server Kris was fantastic. One of our diners is celiac and he was very thoughtful as patient around going through the menu.
Very good seafood - fresh and tasty and very good service. Highly recommend
It was a great experience, they served 11 of us for an anniversary party, excellent food, great recommendations, amazing service. Our waiter was engaging, friendly and helpful in making decisions. The food was excellent from beginning to end. The atmosphere was very lively, for a Thursday, and the clientele ran the gamut from "just finished a workout" to "business meeting"... Lots of couples on dates too... Definitely a place you can go to make an impression.
Excellent dining experience, pricy but not exaggerated
The food was quite good and the view of the city at night was the highlight of the meal.
Can always count on amazing food and great service. Tara is our go to server and she does an fantastic job at recommendations and ensuring your dining experience is a positive one.
This was an exceptional and upscale place. Expect to make a reservation and dress for an impressive meal. Prepare yourself with high expectations for high quality food and service...expect them to be exceeded. This was the best sea food restaurant I have been to and I have been to a dozen or more.
Dinner
Seafood range is best in town. Service is attentive, though must say found it a bit pushy. Having said that they made sure we had a great time. My wife is a bit tough to please - she was a fan of Blue Water like 10 minutes in. Great collection of red wines.
Exquisite Quisine and top notch service! Great atmosphere and a great setting!! Will be highly recommending this restaurant!!????????????????
Presentation and ambience are great. Service is polite, prompt, and insightful. The starters were delicious—the depth of flavour, the complementary tastes, extremely well done. The mains, however, fell short of the high expectations I set after having those starters. There was nothing outstanding in either the Char or the Lingcod. We will be back, but I will be more careful with what I choose to have here in future. As it stands, fish is off the list.
One of the best restaurants in town. Great atmosphere and fantastic staff will make your experience memorable. Prices are high, but very justified. Cocktails are fantastic. Could not recommend this place more.
Always very impressed with blue water cafe! One of our favorite
One of the best places for seafood and great wine selections. Very friendly staffs!
Had some experience with famous Blue Water Cafe tonight and should say it was great. We had a reservation for our small wedding anniversary and were surprised to see a welcome card from the team. Next, the food choice was a bit limited but tasted awesome. We ordered famous sable fish with a range or seafood selection. All options tasted nice and fresh. Also, they had good selection of wines so my picky one could find a right choice. Overall, it was great time and food which you can say by seeing lots of people there.
The seafood trio was excellent as was the Sable fish. Did not care for the white Sturgeon and the Kobe beef was delicious too
I took my mom for her birthday here, and we will be definitely coming back. The service was impeccable, from drink suggestions to wine pairings. The manager also noticed that we were writing a birthday card and brought out complementary dessert for us to share. The place is very classy, and the food is cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this place for special events and for any other occasions if you are looking for high quality seafood that is priced fairly.
Deserves a 3 but food was good so got a 4 We came from Toronto, and was sat in back corner next to washroom. We got the perfect view of everyone coming in and out of the washroom:) Our server who was from France was fantastic! Food was really fresh and decent. Nothing spectacular. This was our last meal in vancouver and we totally expected more since it was on the global dining list from amex but sadly we were underwhelmed. I would higlhy reccomend to have guests that book out of province for more than a month out who are extremely excited about this place to NOT BE SAT NEXT TO THE WASHROOM!!!! Especially when there are empty tables elsewhere with the same server servicing!!!!!!!!!!! --- super offended- resturant lost 2 stars just for this, we had the perfect seat for every single washroom guest to walk by :) Aside from this, highly reccomend the seafood tower - very fresh but ruined by the washroom traffic. Server seriously tried really hard to make our experience awesome- was not fair he had to share tip with hostesses who sat us here. Food was a typical menu, presentation was beautiful. Open kitchen and sushi bar. Large cocktail and wine menu.
Seafood towers its must have meal for sure! great location and great service. if you looking for steak or sushi combination. this is the one for you. Pasta its their secret menu! you could add topics on it just like u order a bubble tea with jelly
Such a beautiful setting for a romantic dinner in Yaletown. The waiters are top shelf, at your beck and call. Special thank to my server, Rachel who went above and beyond. The outdoor seating includes a personal gas heater on those chilly nights. Foods were delicious and fresh. Highly recommend.
Perennial favorite/winner on many lists for best resto / seafood / fine dine. Sushi has balanced ratio of flesh and rice and superb as an appetizer. Main course proteins are executed well including beef and fish courses. The sable fish is a tad bit too heavy on the miso. Service is quite attentive despite a busy room. Wine and digestif lists are ample . Good spot for festive occasions in the main and private rooms.
Fantastic food as always. They have been around for a long time for a good reason. Wait staff were helpful and friendly. Manager came to check on us to ensure our meal was going well. Menu is pricey but it will always be with it and fresh.
We went to blue water cafe for our anniversary. The atmosphere was very nice, the food was enjoyable, the drinks were classic, the server was very friendly with sense of humour. We had the seafood tasting starter, and really enjoyed all of the four dishes. I especially enjoyed the smocked sockeye salmon terrine, it melted on my tongue like butter, so nice! I had the halibut which I thought I was ok. My boyfriend had the sablefish which is so so good!! It was done just perfectly. For dessert we had the warm chocolate cake, I think it was a little too much even for two of us to share - the chocolate filling inside was too sweet! If you can go easier on the sugar it would have been perfect.
Impressive. Geared towards more Canadian palette. But nice.
I loved my experience at this restaurant! Starting with a variety of oysters, fresh beef sashimi, sampler plate, lobster and wyagu dinner. This place is incredible!! I Highly Recommend! Our waitress Natasha spent a good amount of time with us and was very knowledgeable and that made the dinner even better!
Service
Great service, excellent sushi, waitress was extremely cheerful and enthusiastic. Great attitude and very attentive. Had to send back my Sable fish, no questions asked, no hassles, was replaced immediately. Experience is what I expected.

Went to Blue Water Cafe for my birthday dinner. Amazing and delicious food. Our server Natasha was amazing, great recommendations from her. Presentation was great. Ambience was great and the restaurant was buzzing, glad we had a reservation. Kudos to the chef for a meal well executed.
Delicious fresh seafood. Everything tasted fantastic including the cocktails
Amazing food, best seafood in Vancouver. I tried the chill seafood platter and it tasted unbelievable. My main was the sable fish and it was tender and delicious. If you love seafood, I highly recommend you try this place, you won’t be disappointed. The food might be expensive but you get what you pay for.
Great food and good service! I treat as always.
What a spectacular meal! Every dish we ordered was scrumptious. Our waiter José (wish we'd gotten his last name) helped make our evening even better. He is funny, clever, and attentive. This meal was one of the highlights of our trip to Vancouver and we will return with every visit. Note to management: please proofread your menus as there are spelling and grammatical errors which were in stark contrast to your exceptional service and food.
Great experience, delicious seafood prepared well. Found it a little tricky with our large group to be in a huge booth, other than that was thouroghly enjoyable.
five starts are not enough. I wish I could give 10 stars. Got to try the sablefish dish, seafood tower and octopus appetizer. So fresh that it was sweet. Staffs were very attentive and friendly.
Amazing, amazing. From the service to the seafood tower and more. Definitely go there to eat fresh seafood.
Main course of sole meunière arrived overcooked and floating in butter. Absolutely unprofessional overpriced dish at $69.50. Other courses were fine but not outstanding. What has happened to this gem?
Amazing food and location! The steamed atlantic lobster was as good as in Nova Scotia and incredibly delicious. The sablefish steak was the best fish I've ever eaten. Our server was wonderful, friendly and attentive. The drinks were amazing and beautiful as well.
Food always perfect. One of the best wine lists in the city. You get what you pay for.

This place never disappoints, amazing food, and great service every single time.
My wife and I came here for our wedding anniversary and was treated top notch! Service and food were both incredible! Was our first time there and will definitely be back, this place is a gem! Best seafood in Vancouver!
Their Atlantic Lobster with mashed potatoes, veggies, and creamy butter broth is just amazing. I've gone to Blue Water Cafe every year, and they never disappoint. Their staff is very professional and they make sure that you are satisfied. Dress semi-casual! The place looks fancy and the prices are pretty fancy too (about $40 for 1 lb of lobster). You won't regret it, though. There is a limited option for those who prefer to eat meat rather than delicious critters from the sea. Plus, they also serve fresh complimentary bread rolls with tasty spread!
This review is based upon my first experience at Blue Water Cafe as a solo diner on a Sunday evening. THUMBS-UP: - Kristin. She was personable and attentive. Effective communication skills and her polished service is indicative of a professional in the art of hospitality. - The decor. It supported an ambience that I would describe as intimate and elegant without the tone of condescension that may exist in a similar class of restaurant. - Mixology. You need to get on board with Get on Board. And Light of Day was an great palate cleanser. I can't wait to work my way through the other delectable creations on their bar menu. - The food (of course). Here is a map of my gastronomic journey: 1. Oysters (2 x Chef Creek + 2 x Sunseeker). 2. Smoked Sockeye Salmon Terrine. 3. Kobe Style Shortribs. 4. Pistachio Creme Brulee. THUMBS-DOWN: Collection of personal information and lack of consent: After providing the hostess with my proof of vaccination, I was asked for my phone number. I gave it and then after she inputted it into their system, I asked her whether the collection of my phone number was for contact tracing purposes (without realizing that this requirement was no longer required.). The hostess was gracious in letting me know about this but what was disconcerting was the fact that my phone number was added to their database for marketing purposes without my knowledge and/or consent. The way in which Blue Water Cafe collected my personal information cannot meet the definition of either informed or implied consent given the aforementioned and I would have preferred that the hostess be clear about the purpose of the collection of this personal information and wait for consent rather than just asking for it and then entering it into a database without my permission. OIPC has been made aware of this incident. Minor drop in service. At one point during dinner, I had to ask Kristin for a side plate and bread knife. The original set was used and was cleared but never replenished. And given the fact that there was a basket of dinner rolls on the table and I had yet to start my main course and given the calibre of the establishment, my expectation was that I wouldn't have to ask her for this.
This place has a great social atmosphere. The fish is high quality and we brought in a big party with no complaints from anybody. Definitely a good place to go for a birthday. A little pricey, but overall great, I'd say!
Located on Hamilton St. in core downtown Vancouver is a great place for seafood lovers with drinks served as well. This resto has an amazing presence.. much to its dull but effective lighting, drinks bar, chef's daily specials and a perfect dinner experience with friends n family. Their platters are just amazing and has a great combination of seafood varieties.
Food was exquisite, ambience was on point, service was nothing but amazing! You haven't seen a wine list until you have dined here. Expensive yes but what an experience in fine dining.
Great fresh seafood with will a wonderful atmosphere as well as top notch service. Staff were caring and accommodating as well as very informative. Competitive pricing for the quality and experience that comes with the restaurant. Great place and I will continue to be a repeat customer. Cheers!
This is an expensive restaurant with a higher price point tag. It’s definitely more of the luxurious styled restaurants with seat heated bidet toilets! The service was incredible however the food was honestly okay.
After reading a few reviews that were questionable on service and ambiance I was a bit concerned about our dinner reservation here. We decided to go on and quickly realized there’s a reason this is consistently ranked the best seafood establishment in Vancouver and possibly Canada. Some of the best service accompanied one of the best meals I’ve had in my life; strongly recommended.
Had the most amazing sushi experience of Vancouver. Fish is so fresh and beautifully presented! Portions are of good size and for the price you get quite a lot of fish! Huge selection of fresh oysters....very good as well! Service is also of high quality and servers are prepared and can answer many questions about menu and ingredients. It isn't cheap but the price is justified considering the quality of food, drinks and service!
This place is a must return. Love the fact this restaurant was located 4 minutes walking distance from the OPUS Hotel (their website recommended it). The hostess seated us in a cozy wine room area of the restaurant where two very lovely and hospitable waitresses made feel very welcomed with all our needs met. There were very tough choices to be made in the menu because everything looks and sounds mouthwatering. The waitress went the extra mile of making two combo dishes instead of one large dish of each so my boyfriend don't have to switch heavy plates. I commend the chef for a job well done. Initially my boyfriend wanted to stick to nigiri and perhaps some sashimi. He was aversive to try the main plates because it listed vegetables that he didn't want to eat. But he ended up cleaning the plates spotless; I asked what happened, he told me it tasted so good he didn't care. Now if only he had vegetables prepped this way as a kid.

The most beautiful restaurant in town, super elegant and refined. The server was super nice and knowledgeable about wine. The fish was outstanding super fresh and delicious, seasoned to perfection. Highly recommended if you are in town you MOST come here
Not worth. Great Service and Beautiful, but the portions are very small and expensive. I love seafood abd eat it all over the world. This place is a ripoff. Maybe Vancouver isn't a seafood city and this is as good as it gets. Doesn't live up to anything you would eat in New Orleans, Maine , Massachusetts, Miami, the Mediterranean or Caribbean. It was truly disappointing.
I’ve been to Blue Water Cafe for several special occasions, but this might’ve been the best dinner yet. The seafood tower was delicious. Each individual item is fresh. The kusshi oysters were smooth and creamy, and honestly some of the best oysters I’ve had. The tenderloin was cooked nicely, but what made the dish shine was the combination of the addicting buttery potatoes, the fresh carrots, and the tenderloin itself. Note: a Dutch Mule on the side is a pretty great addition to the meal.
Not bad... but unfriendly server after the payment
One of the most delicious restaurants in Vancouver!
If you want to have a taste of great west coast cuisine, this is your place. They have a variety of seafood dishes that are cooked to perfection as well as sushi. I always go for the sushi and sashimi. Had the seafood tower for a special occasion once & it had very interesting things like jelly fish - so nice to try when you are sharing with a group. Service is very attentive. Pricey
My spouse and I enjoyed an anniversary dinner at Blue Water Café and were seated in the wine room, which is beautiful. The food, service and atmosphere were fantastic. We can see why this place is consistently rated one of the top restaurants in the city. We look forward to going back.
This was my first time here after hearing so much about good and also negative reviews about this place. The ambience is quite inviting but the service was the best. They are all very cheerful and helpful and try to make you relax. The seafood plateau was of course beautiful and fresh. Scallop ceviche, clams, oysters, prawns etc. The carrot soup was smooth. My sea bass with light broth was the best. The other two dishes , paella and pasta bolognese I found to be quite rich.
Great food, great service. I had gone to Blue Water Cafe with a group of 9 and their accommodation was great. They had put us in a room with just ourselves and our server Chris was amazing. Incredibly knowledgeable on the menu and where the food was sourced. On top of that was very friendly and personable. Really made me feel at home. And then the food. Absolutely spectacular. I will most definitely be returning on my next trip to Vancouver. Chris if you're reading this I'll see you at the Tables.
I Google take me to the best restaurant in Vancouver. The hospitality is world class the space is impeccable. The culinary experience is memorable.
An extremely nice place that I would go with friends or on a date to. The servers are always super friendly and give great recommendations that improve the experience greatly. Their food is to die for and the alcohol is very plentiful. I would definitely recommend coming here late night so it's less busy, and your server can come by and have a little chat about what you're eating.
Superb service. Nice looking and friendly staff. Fresh ingredient. Delicious food. It gets a bit noisy in the restaurant and service gets a bit slow but understandable. Great dating place. It’s on the expensive side but a must come every time we are in town. Take customer feedback and I definitely recommend the place.
Good thing we made a reservation. The place was packed to the brim. We had the Dungeness crab and shrimp salad which was amazing, she had the flat iron Wagyu steak and I had halibut.
the waiter and waitress are just too busy lol the quality is not good overall , food ,environment ,bugs
Amazing service from Sheena our server, she was wonderful with our son and it was his 3rd birthday. We love eating out in Vancouver and hit up all the great spots, this is my favorite restaurant of them all. Amazing oysters and freshest sashimi, also had the A5 waygu steak... melts in your mouth. If you’re in Vancouver this should be your number 1 restaurant to eat at.
Juciest scallops ever. Thank you Tara for the wonderful service. Make sure to try their dessert!!
Meal type
My boyfriend's first experience here was phenomenal. The scallops were soo delicious, actually everything we ordered was. If you have any doubts of what appetizer to order, the seafood tasting for 2 has a little bit of everything. Desserts were also absolutely delicious! This is a must try, it's not overrated and you will not be disappointed
Had the 3 course lunch. Although food isn't as good as I remembered, the service is still top notched and I feel very safe with proper social distancing and precaution done right. The risotto is to die for (a touch sweet for some), but the dessert is trivial.
Wonderful food and service. The setting is special as well. It is the first place we’ll reserve when we return to Vancouver.
My friend took me here for my birthday! The food was so fresh and amazing!! I had the seafood tower! No complaints! And watching the sushi chefs do their magic was so fun. The service was excellent!! Never had to wait for my cup to be filled and my teapot was kept warm with the constant refill of hot water! Dessert was also off the hook!! I had the tiramisu bar! So good!! I would definitely come back for the whole experience again!
What an amazing fine dining experience. My server Melissa has a one way ticket to heaven. She was the best server I’ve ever had. She deserves a raise. She explained every dish so thoroughly and was very nice and always had a smile on her face. Thank you Melissa! Outdoor patio was fire. Food was amazing! Quality is top notch. For sure going to be back here real soon ! They also got the best wine selection I have ever seen!!!!!!
Attentive service and lovely ambiance. Food was fresh and staff had good recommendations.
Certainly one of the top restaurants in Vancouver. The quality of the food matched only be then exceptional quality of service. Make a reservation if possible! If you can't get a reservation, there is usually a short wit for the bar ( which has the full menu available).
The signature sablefish was a bit on the salty side, but it was probably due to the miso used to marinate the fish. The dungeon crab from the seafood tower could have been better. I would just order the seafood tower without the crab on my next visit. The spot prawns were excellent though.
Fabulous! Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about all the ingredients in each dish. They are very good at accommodating a gluten-free diet. They put a lot of thought into what they do, and it shows. Food is worth the price. If you have the chance, check this place out.
It has been a while since I have been here but I will need to visit again. This restaurant is excellent and has some scrumptious food. Located in a convenient, intimate area, the restaurant itself provides a bustling environment where you can enjoy good dining with loved ones.
If you come to Vancouver or Canada generally , this is the best place I ever tried; wine, seafood, truffle risotto and dessert are insanely delicious! The chef and the waiter were so friendly and this was an amazing culinary experience !
Coming from out of town...Great food and fresh, awesome experience...only downfall was that service was taking too slow, not resto issue, waiter...overall a must visit!
This was a fantastic restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. Service was excellent. Drinks were great. Dining room was well laid out with actual space between tables! Reservations a must as this is a very popular spot. A little loud probably made worse by constant techno beat in the background. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the northwest. A primarily seafood restaurant and they do it very well.
The food was amazing but the service is not really good. Would have given 5 if the service is what we ought to have paying this much! Let’s start from going in. First you need to open the front “gate” before going to the rolling door. Other than us, there is another couple wanting to get in. The lady/ server or some sort was just playing on her ipad and computer instead of greeting us. We were left waiting while staff was just 2 steps away from us on her computer. Then our server. He rarely talk to us. We have a happt birthday card as i book this for bday. He didn’t even care to say happt birthday.. We get sablefish and arctic char as always. This time we got the seafood tower for appy and sharing cheesecake cos we were too full. All food was amazing.
Came here for my birthday. Such great food, it's always the place I like to go for a special occasion, ir if we're in the mood for something great.

Have been to the BWC numerous times this summer and fall - returned after visiting several years ago when, I must admit, I was not that impressed. I would now, however, rate it in my top 2 or 3 favourite Vancouver restaurants, not just for superb quality of food and presentation, but also for service, ambiance and the classy environment. As well, sitting at the Raw Bar and having the privilege of watching their master Sushi chefs work is worth the visit - the skill, efficiency and yes, art, of their work is both fascinating and inspiring.
Delicious meal, great service and nice ambience. The yellowfin tuna was absolutely delicious. We went for our anniversary and they even had an anniversary card for us when we arrived. Nice touch! Great spot for special occasions.
Wonderful experience all around at Blue Water Cafe. The staff is truly passionate about the restaurant, the atmosphere is unpretentious yet very nice and special and the food... oh the food is absolutely delicious. Everything is so fresh and prepared by fine chefs. An absolute delight and an evening to remember. Treat yourself and your senses to Blue Water Cafe! It's a must go to in Vancouver. (I didn't take pictures because it would simply not do it justice)
This was one of the best restaurants we visited in Vancouver. The service was about as good as it gets - really top notch. The oysters were deliciously fresh and the ambiance was cozy and nice despite being seated in the patio. I tried the sablefish as an entree. It was our waiter's recommendation and it was superb. Fully recommended for anyone who values a great dining experience.
Amazing service and great food with friendly staff. I’m so satisfied ????
All time favourite seafood/sushi restaurant! The staff is always welcoming, the wine selection is top notch, and the ambiance tops it off perfectly.
This review is 1 year late! We went for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. We had salmon sashimi to start - amazing, thick, melt in your mouth. This was actually my first sashimi experience! I then had steak which was incredible. Desert...incredible. Wine, fantastic. Service was also superb. The layout of the restaurant was super cool, with multiple kitchens. Only downside, seemed to be filled with people that exhumed arrogance and self righteousness. Saw a few 1st dates where the co-date looked bored as the other tried showing off to the sommelier! Obviously this place is very expensive, but kinda worth it for a special occasion. We did feel a little uncomfortable, but that’s not the establishments fault and the waitress seemed very down to earth!
The food was done to perfection with top quality ingredients. I really enjoyed every dish. The service was the amazing and deserves a 5/5. Our server was very attentive to detail the entire night without being intrusive.
Always fantastic. My wife and I have been several times - this time we tried the Kobe short ribs and also the waghu steak from Alberta. Both were absolutely amazing, with flawless execution as usual. Also started with the venison terrine (very tasty) and the mandatory half dozen oysters chosen by the waiter. Recommended.
We had our (small) wedding dinner here and it was flawless. Visited again more recently, a year later, and was equally impressed with the service, food and overall experience. Their seafood towers are amazing and I highly reccomend trying one one day
Good eats. Best sashimi ever. Patrons uber over dressed.
There's a reason this restaurant has been rated so high on various food critic sites; the food is absolutely delicious and the service is beyond reproach. The waitress made some very good suggestions and all the servers were both friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend this place for those looking for fine dining.
My husband and I were visiting Vancouver for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Tara was our server and she was so wonderful!! Tara made fantastic recommendations and it was so lovely to chat to her. The food was incredible and we had the most wonderful celebration!
Really good taste and service. We sat at the sushi bar and really enjoyed the experience. The lobster was fantastic, and we really enjoyed the rolls we ordered to start. We travelled by train which was nice. Overall a great atmosphere for a special celebration dinner out at a restaurant we had been wanting to try for a long time.
This is far and away my favourite local restaurant. Food is so amazing and the service is top notch! If your considering eating here book a reservation as far in advance as possible as they fill up for a reason!

Came here with a group of 4. Had an amazing meal. Great service.
Nice to try and have been at this iconic restaurant. We found the chocolate dessert to be the highlight of our meal. Second most enjoyable was the lemon butter, red pepper stuffing and bread. Did not enjoy the seared scallops for the sauce. Oysters tasted too much like ocean for our tastes but may be appreciated by those who like their seafood ocean-y fresh- they were definitely fresh! The prawns were satisfyingly plump and large. Three stars reflect disappointed expectations for the cooked plates. We ordered the sablefish and arctic char. We found flavors underwhelming, even plain, and supplemented a dish with the raspberry oil that came with the seafood tower. It was unfortunately cold where we sat even though we enjoyed the quiet and privacy. Service was outstanding and highly attentive.
Great service coupled with food prepared with imagination. Only the best, freshest ingredients will do. Do not pass on the restaurant!!!!!!
At the time we went there was a great seafood menu of more unusual items. Service was professional, prices are reasonable given the quality of the food. Would definitely come back. Love that there is a combination of Western and Asian seafood dishes.
Blue Water Cafe was our first choice for our anniversary dinner. Everything was fabulous: the table, the service, the wine list, the menu, the food, the dessert, and the overall ambience. The seafood taster appetizer was delicious, as were our seafood entrees. The sorbets (made in-house) were exquisite. Can’t wait to return for another celebration!
Amazing food, decent prices, good ambiance, a lot of options with drinks, nice background music, space is good, service is 4/5... Overall, this place is 4/5. Great experience too!
Blue Water is my new favorite spot when I am going to treat myself to something higher end. Their food is exceptional, as is their service, and cocktails. Their bathrooms are always clean. The staff professional and efficient. The only thing I'd complain about is having to plan in advance to go since resos are booked because they are so awesome. Can't recommend enough.
I always have a peasant experience in this restaurant! The food is really nice so is ambiance. Every holiday season I book this place! ???? ????
We usually go for the sablefish at Blue Water, because you simply can't go wrong! - it literally melts in your mouth. And I definitely recommend the Dragon roll as appetizer, it's AMAZING! Last night we tried the sirloin steak and it was to die for. The service at blue water has always been outstanding. The waiters know the menus very well and very flexible if you'd want to customize your orders (I usually order my own kind of salad). This place is on the pricier side but that's what you would expect from a top notch, primarily sea food restaurant. The crowd is mainly middle aged ppl. Butt it's also very family friendly if you have little ones with you. Overall a great restaurant in the trendy Yaletown.
Really good food and ambiance. What makes it even special is their service. They are super easy going but professional, accommodating to every special needs (we had lots of special requests for our private room function). Jose ( hope i am spelling his name right) was a great server for the night. He was very kind, sensitive to our needs, knowledgeable and professional. Thank you guys!!!!

Fantastically prepared seafood. Had the scallops and miso black cod and both were excellent. Didn't have a chance to take a picture since both plates were literally attacked. Cocktails were also well done.
Located in an upscale and hip neighborhood this place is a gem. The ambiance of the restaurant was fine dinning without being pretentious. The food was excellent we enjoyed everything we had. And the service was incredible. Loved it.
This is truly a world class restaurant! Every dish we ordered was delicious and well put together. Service was good and attentive.
The Service, the Food, the wine pairings. Sat at the bar and was treated to great conversation (thank you!) as an accompaniment to a wonderful Meal. The crispy skinned duck was a Standout, as well as the onion ravioli
Food was amazing. Good service. Quality of ingredients is great! We had many meals, but couldn't choose what we like the most - everything was special and delicious!
I went yesterday to celebrate 12 years anniversary with my husband and the whole experience was wonderful. We tried the 5 course prix fixe menu going on now and it was really delicious. Food was amazing, lovely service (specially to my garçom that was so detailed suggesting alcoholic drinks regarding our preferences and likes, also he was so respectful and funny), romantic, cozy and beautiful ambience outside even in winter season. It was delightful and I am glad I chose this restaurant for this special occasion, it did not dissapoint us and exceed our expectations. Will definitely come back!
Still haven't found a better dining experience in Vancouver. Never felt too rushed or too slow, the service is the reason we come back. Stamina roll doesn't hurt. I think our servers name was Bryson and also the french guy we had last time was good. There are some nice restaurants in Vancouver but nothing beats Blue Water for us.
Food was delicious, service was great.
This place is pretty cool. The lobster and oysters are amazing. Waiters are so polite that makes me feels like a VIP.
Always a great place for a date. It is definitely high end so expect to pay for great quality dishes. We go here for special occasions.
Great ambience, ingenious menu and as many have said, Uber fresh ingredients. However , service was rushed and unrefined. Server who poured water drop water on multiple table. Nonetheless, the food is so good we overlooked the minor mishap. You won’t regret coming here for the taste
Blue Water Cafe is one of our favorite restaurants in the world. The seafood is fresh and amazing. The wait staff are extremely knowledgeable and can direct you to items fresh and not listed on the menu. I love our special dinners there and highly recommend making bookings well in advance and do specify the table as in booth versus table and indoors versus out.
I wish i could have given this place 5 stars. Food was very good, but not excellent, as the price would suggest. The seafood tower though as an appetizer i could recommend. Fresh and diverse. Our main courses unfortunately were just OK. Service was attentive but a little too much "try". We ate on the terrace which was probably a mistake. The atmosphere inside seemed much better. When spending this amount of money, we expect to be overwhelmed. This we were not.
the appetizer scallops was not to my liking. sablefish and short rib melt in your mouth. And an awesome warm dark chocolate cake to end my meal. The service was absolutely amazing!
Beautiful patio in the heart of trendy Yaletown, excellent cocktail and wine selection, interesting menu, but overall the food was underwhelming except for the main course pieces of fish themselves, which were perfectly done. Skip the seafood sampler for other apps. Outstanding service.

Absolutely phenomenal! The service, the raw bar, the appetizers, mains, desserts and sake selection!! Delicious! Fresh seafood, amazing cooked food, all in the perfect atmosphere in a great location.
The medium seafood platter here is the best! It's definitely enough to fill 2 people. Also their entrees are amazing (seafood and non seafood!) If you have people to impress you should bring them here.
For those days when you have just too much cash in your wallet, Blue Water Cafe is a great place to lighten your load. Food is exquisite. Wine list is deep. Service is just short of white glove. Menu is centred on seafood with fine dining execution. Treat yourself. Even if only once in a while.
Glad that Blue Water Cafe has managed to stay open during the pandemic as their quality and service hasn't changed and is still amazing. If you want fresh seafood and a japanese fusion menu, definitely make an effort to try them out. As I …
The restaurant was super vibey when we arrived and the service over the course of the evening was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and offered great suggestions. We started with the prawn cocktail - always a classic and perfectly executed. The scallops were so tasty I’m still thinking about them. We had char and halibut - both cooked to perfection, lovely crispy skin & cooked translucent! Tasty tasty!
A well appointed restaurant with a robust emphasis on delivering a top shelf dining experience. We were fortunate enough to experience their private room service and were spoiled by their attentive servers and delectable plates. The angus beef was perfectly rare, and the knife was exactly what was needed for it. Dessert, for myself a pistachio creme brulee, could not have been more presentable nor more carefully sweet. All in all, I give it 5 stars for execution and style.
Dinner
Service and presentation was top notch 5 stars.. our server from Ontario, he made good recommendations and was very attentive thru out. We tried the seafood tower which was excellent and spot on. My main was the sable fish was cooked well but the taste and overall flavour could be kicked up a notch, I added the the scallops which I enjoyed. The same with the short ribs which I tasted from my partner’s meal and also felt it was 3 stars quite bland for our taste buds. The cocktails were delicious “Karlo” Lest we forget, was absolutely devine .. could never forget the combination of flavours, perfectly orchestrated. Kudos to the bar. Wrapped our meal with a Beautiful cocktail, we took our servers recommendation and had the 3 different flavours of sorbet, it was super refreshing and fun guessing the type of fruit. Also loved those little cookies at the end, it was nice touch. It was a good West Coast experience and will try it again when we visit Vancouver again.
Great atmosphere and service. Leila was exceptional and made our whole trip! Definitely will recommend everyone here.

I don't normally give 5 star reviews, but upon my first time here having a shared dinner with my girlfriend we had an excellent experience with fantastic customer service, didn't bother us too much and service was quick and professional, polite. Food itself was delicious and very well sized, atmosphere was delightful with enough lighting and some light music in the background. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for fresh, seafood that is tasty and delicious.
Went old school with a prawn cocktail for an appy. 6 nice plump prawns and a traditional cocktail sauce. Nothing new here but really good! I had sturgeon which was excellent, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. My wife had the halibut feature. Excellent as well. Dessert was dulce de leche bread pudding. Very pretty and so tasty! Service was attentive but not intrusive, just right. Noise level is ok for conversation. All round, a great meal!
If I could use one word to describe my experience here it would be disappointing. This review is going to be lengthy, just a heads up. My boyfriend and I love going to fine dining restaurants that specialize in seafood. We don’t mind paying good price if it means delicious, high quality food and great service. Last night (Feb 16) we went to blue water cafe because of the good reviews it has, however, it will absolutely be our last visit. Below are the main reasons why. 1) poor, poor service. The server we had was friendly to start and acknowledged us within a few minutes of sitting down. He got us water and some bread. However, it took him about 25 minutes before even asking what we wanted to drink. Meanwhile, he visited the table next to us 3-4 times. (They ordered dessert and finished it within this time) When we finally got our drinks 30-35 minutes later, WE asked if we could order food and he said sure, and started taking down our order finally. However, in the middle of placing our order, he interrupted and said, “excuse me” and went back to the table next to us (again, for the 5th time) to see how they were doing. We thought this was extremely rude and it was at that point we knew exactly what was going on. We’re young and the server probably thought we weren’t going to tip so he didn’t care as much about us as the other tables he had. Well we always tip 20+ per cent on our bills because my boyfriend was a server for a long time and we know how terrible it is to stiff servers. This was our experience with the service all night. 2) the food was NOT great. For reference, we ordered some oysters and a shrimp cocktail as appetizers. The oysters were great but the cocktail had too much sauce; it almost looked like a bit of thick soup was poured into the bowl, but we were starving so we ate it. Then, my boyfriend ordered the yellowknife tuna (I think that’s what it’s called) and I ordered the scallops main dish. My dish was around $45 and extremely disappointing. It was clear the star of the dish were the onions which were inconsistently cooked, and muted the scallops. Some were raw, some soft. There were 5 or so small scallops on the dish, also inconsistently cooked. (scallops are hard to cook but cmon, for $40 and only 5 scallops it should be a perfectly cooked dish). There was also a small rice cake on my dish which tasted burnt. I did not finish my dish. The server did ask how our food tasted but I am not sure he heard me because he just walked away. We work very hard for our money and look forward to going out to fine dining restaurants once every month/couple of months. This experience sucked, and instead of having a good conversation we couldn’t help but discuss how disappointed we were. We tipped our server 15% but could have done better had we not been forgotten about by our sever. We will continue to visit our favourite seafood restaurant in the city, Coast, regularly and instead of coming to Blue Water Cafe, we strongly encourage you to save yourself the disappointment and go straight to Coast. ????????
The Blue Water Cafe was recommended by our closest friends who had visited Vancouver 2 years earlier. Unfortunately we had chosen to celebrate an important birthday (80th) at another restaurant at the start of our Vancouver visit. Bad Move!!! Our visit on our last night to Blue Water on our last night was a highlight of our trip. Amazing food, Superb service and loads of ambiance. We can't wait to try again on our next visit.
Perfect 80th birthday celebration was had. Seafood tower was outstanding!! Service, impeccable and a wonderful time was had by all. Excellent whisky/scotch selection too.
Exquisite service & amazing food. Excellent environment for dinner & great selection of wine.
This place is pretty good but has a high bar to hit. There are lots of claims out there that this is among the best restaurants in Vancouver but that means there is little room for error. They mostly deliver on this but if your are trying to be the best you have to do better than everyone and I feel that this place is average amongst it's peers.
This is an expensive restaurant with a higher price point tag. It’s definitely more of the luxurious styled restaurants with seat heated bidet toilets! The service was incredible however the food was honestly okay.
First visit to Vancouver (loved it!) and first-but-not-last dinner at Blue Water Cafe. Highest marks go to our server Brent. Never seen anyone so excited about the offerings. And for good reason: probably the best sushi we've ever had (and we've had a lot!), amazing wine and divine fish for main courses. Even the bread and herbed butter and chickpea spread were excellent. Highly recommend: Stamina roll, Aburi Sablefish Battera and Dungeness crab roll. All OMG. Artic Char and the scallops equally to die for. And don't miss dessert: the Greek yogurt mascarpone cheesecake with berries was refreshing and delish.
Mouth watering dishes. Great presentation. The Shellfish Tower was a delicious start to the night. Service was clean and curdious. Great selection of wine and scotch. Pricey, but, worth it for that special someone.
There is a reason this Yaletown establishment is rated the #1 Seafood Restaurant in Vancouver. A Culinary Dream! (Our meal was Outstanding). Our service from Tara was "over the top". The restaurant was busy; but ran like a well oiled machine; thanks to restaurant Director Stephan, who works as hard as his staff to create a Dining Experience. Thank you Blue Water. We will return soon.
We enjoy the food at this place. The service is always great! The tenderloin and dragon roll taste delicious. Nice selections of cocktails and wine.
Service was above and beyond and the seafood was the best I've experienced so far in Vancouver, everything tasted incredibly fresh! This is a perfect place for a date night with that special someone.
Servers were so nice and attentive! Had the best experience.
Phenomenal meal, would highly recommend as a must try when in Vancouver.
My second highly recommended restaurant that you must visit in Vancouver if you are traveler . Expect leave some money but its worse it! Lots of wine selections for wine lovers, delicious fresh food and outstanding service. Our order platter for two(20$ per person); crab roll and sashimi ;Kobe style short ribs -love it!!! and Link code...Everything perfect !! Don't forget to make a reservation !!
Solid place with good service and fine dining atmosphere. Sockeye salmon was chewy but everything else was great. Some of the cocktails are just ok so I wouldn't get them again except for the spicy cucumber tequila one.

Celebrated my husband’s birthday here and the experience was fantastic. The food was delicious, and the patio was warm and cozy even as it was pouring rain outside. We will definitely be back!
I am always so impressed by the service and food. One of my favorite restaurants in Yaletown. Love all the cocktails selection they have. Stephan makes sure to always welcome his customers like family. LOVE LOVE this place.
The food was amazing. Tara M. was our server - she was AWESOME!!! She made a good evening with friends, a Great evening! Cannot say enough about her service and interaction with us. Will ask for her the next time we dine at Blue Water!
Last Christmas I was looking for a restaurant in Vancouver that I could purchase a gift card for. My son and his girlfriend are temporarily living in there and I didn’t want to send them home with a lot of bulky gifts to take on the plane. I came across an article which said great things about The Blue Water Cafe. So after browsing their website and menu I bought a gift card to be used there. They loved it! So when my mother and I visited mid August we decided that they needed to take us there. The food was fabulous! We each had a nibble off of each other’s plates. Everything was flavourful, cooked to perfection and the presentation was perfect. We sat on the patio which has a great atmosphere. It is spacious with tables that are spaced nicely so that you don’t feel like you are sitting with the table beside you and you can hear the conversation at your table. Our waitress was Jennifer and let me tell you she is hands down the best waitress I have ever encountered! She was very attentive, knowledgeable about what was on the menu and able to make some great suggestions. Great food and beyond great service made for a great evening! I would highly recommend The Blue Water Cafe!
Have the seafood tower. It's awesome! Excellent service, a wonderful dining experience.
Great vibe, and a phenomenal meal with impeccable service from Tara, and the entire staff! Don't miss this one, if enjoy a true dining experience.
Incredible food and immaculate service! Our server Chris was spectacular. From his knowledge of the menu to being funny, personable and easy to talk to, he is the best in the business!!!
Went with a large group of family and friends. We enjoyed ourselves, but there was nothing particularly impressive about the restaurant. The consensus was that the food and service were okay. We had higher expectations based on reviews of the website and they were not met. It might be the "best seafood restaurant" in Vancouver, but we'll be going somewhere else next time.
Superb seafood dining experience and very highly recommended
The service was good, the food was good, that they use sustainably caught fish is applauded. The ingredients were beautifully fresh, but the meals did not sing. To be on the list of Vancouver’s top seafood restaurants, I would like more depth of flavour. Pricing is up there. One of our seats was pretty worn out too, they did remedy that quickly once we raised the issue, but at a high end restaurant .... I’ve deducted a star as I think it could be better value for money.
I'd meant to come here a few trips ago, and finally made it, and was so glad I finally did. My family includes a number of oyster lovers, and the oysters and seafood overall did not disappoint. Even the meat options -- wagyu and beef tenderloin -- were delicious. The server was also wonderful -- responsive and helpful (the greeter/hostess was not at all friendly and was a huge turn off, but the server made up for her). We had a fabulous experience and hope to return during a future vacation.
Amazing seafood and cocktails, really some of the best I've had. The prices are on the higher end, but you're definitely paying for the quality. HOWEVER, I was a bit cheesed that the serving staff tried to passively get a bigger tip by never returning with our change. We only had hundred dollar bills to pay with, and expected the staff to return with our $60. Never did. Instead, we were forced to call back our server and explain that we needed our change back. He looked displeased. It was disappointing to leave the restaurant with that feeling.
Amazing, fresh best quality and great service
If possible I'd give it 6 stars. It is absolutely perfect in all respects. Amelia (sp?) was our server. Friendly and helpful to a tee. She knows the menu by heart and can recite the specials easily. The food is nothing short of spectacular. We started with the beef shashimi. It is melt in your mouth goodness. My wife had halibut, which was perfectly cooked and like butter it was so tender. I had a crab cake, delectable. We finished with the apricot desert special. A brilliant melange of flavors and textures
This is my favourite restaurant in Vancouver. The service is fantastic, and as a vegetarian going into a seafood restaurant I didn't know what to expect. I was very impressed when they made me the veggie risotto, and even made a broth just for me with no meat!
Amazing food and service
Amazing seafood. Lovely service. Expensive but live up to reputation
I am very hard pressed to recall a better seafood experience. The food, oysters, cocktails, and halibut were all incredible and very seasonably appropriate. Ambiance was great. Service could have been better/more attentive but you can't have everything. Cheers!
Came here for a double date night while visiting Vancouver and let me tell you, Blue Water Cafe did NOT DISAPPOINT!! Their oysters were delicious, sockeye sashimi nigiri amazing, and all of the other dishes we had were phenomenal!! We started with the oysters, some ceviche, and sockeye nigiri, it was very fresh and tasty. I think I could have just ordered and ate the sockeye nigiri all night lol For dinner i ordered a variety of small plates from the wagyu meatballs, to the pressed sushi, to the hamachi carpaccio. It was all delicious! My wife got the whole bass, it was perfectly seasoned and we'll cooked. The next time we are in Vancouver and are able to get a sitter, we will definitely be back! Also, we saw the cast of The Good Doctor having a party in one of the back rooms. If it's good enough for them, it's probably good enough for me!!
Average service. Food was below expectation. Scallop was way too salty. Sable was creamy but flavorless.
Our favorite restaurant. The food is outstanding as well as the staff and service. The ambience and vibe are top notch. Amazing restaurant!
Iconic Vancouver Yaletown culinary experience for those with no budget concerns. You will get the best of the best here from their bar area, to their outdoor seating areas and sushi bar. Fish is the star. Presentation, staff and dining room are all there to please.
This place easily earns its place in my top 5 for Vancouver for sure. The service is always great, food is amazing, they've really nailed it. I recently went for an anniversary and they made an effort to make it special for us, it was cute and considerate. They have great options if you're not too into shellfish This is one of the restaurants I will regularly visit for some great seafood.
Yes, this place is expensive, and yes, it is worth it. The drinks, the food, the service, the atmosphere - all of it outstanding and of an exceptional quality. I've been here once before many years ago, and my opinion that this place makes the best Manhattan I've ever had hasn't changed. The drink and wine menu is extensive, with plenty of options available for all different tastes and preferences. As for food, the menu here is divided into a large assortment of largely seafood-based dishes, some beef and chicken-based mains, and their sushi (or "Raw Bar") options. My girlfriend and I started with their Dungness Crab Roll and their Scallop starter, which was cooked with spinach and panko bread crumbs. The Crab Roll was essentially what most places call a California Roll, just with real crab and wrapped in egg paper. Both starters were delicious - such rich, savoury flavors made a great start to the meal. For our main, we split the Sable Fish - it was perfectly cooked, served in a delicious, well-seasoned broth with quinoa, bok choi, and a miso glaze. We also ordered an additional roll - their Spicy Tuna - which practically melted in one's mouth; this was probably my favorite roll I ordered. I also decided to try the Dynamite Roll; I wasnt as big a fan of this as the previous two, but I do have to admit the prawn was very tasty. It makes me think that getting the Jumbo Prawns as a starter would have been a good choice. We ended the meal with the Vanilla Yoghurt Cheesecake. Served with a mango sorbet and a mango/pineapple compote, this dessert was brilliant - I could have easily eaten another on my own, but I held off. Kudos to our server - he was fantastic. Knowledgeable about the menu and full of helpful suggestions, highly attentive, and notably polite, he really helped make the dining experience all the more enjoyable. For the starter, three rolls, a main, a desert, and four drinks, after tip, the bill was approximately $235. For such a superb dining experience, I felt it was well worth it.
Chris, our server, was an excellent individual with great charm. Absolutely loved the food and the service. Thanks for the great night out Chris.

Always a pleasure whether it’s regarding the food or the service. The fish has so far never been overcooked. Services ranges from okay to superb. The server from last night named Jennifer (not sure if I got her name right) was the best most cheerful, patient and friendly I’ve met in a while. Bluewater has become my go-to fish night out place of choice.
I’ve been to Blue Water for several times. It had been one of my favorite restaurant in Vancouver. The beef sashimi, seafood tower and sable fish are absolutely amazing. However, the reason why I give 1 star is that last time I went there, after my friend and I paying our bill and ready to leave, we saw at least 2 mice running out from the open kitchen to one of the empty table. We couldn’t believe this kind of incident would happen in such famous restaurant. So disappointed. Please keep clean
Although we have not gone to Blue Water for over a year (we have gone over 20 times in the past), the food here is very good. I consider Frank Pabst to be one of the two or three best chefs in Vancouver. At Lumiere, he was incredible. When he went to Blue Water, I mentioned that he was wasting his immense talents. He has proven to be able to organize a huge staff.
One of the best meals I've ever had! Being vegetarian, I asked my server what he would recommend and he pointed out an option on the menu or asked if I would like the chef to surprise me. I went with the second option and I'm so glad I did! The chef prepared an absolutely fabulous meal for me. I hope he/she is recognized for this. The wait staff were super friendly and very attentive. Great experience!
Checked out this place with my fiancé while waiting for my friends to arrive. This place is situated in a small alley with restaurants/bars on both sides and always packed so make sure you make rsvp well in advance. They have sushi bar with open bar next to each other so you can have a couple of drinks by the bar while waiting to be seated. Highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking to grab a few drinks for the night ????????????????????????
Great high quality seafood and top notch service.
It's a very good restaurant. The service is great, the interior and the decoration are beautiful, and the ambience is relaxed and the food is amazing! If you're celebrating something big I'd probably come here and splurge some big dollars. You can't go wrong with anything, they'll take good care of you!! Located in the most trendy neighborhood of Vancouver along side so many good restaurants, this place quickly became the center of the attentions for locals and tourists alike!

Loved it here!! Highly recommend!! The ambiance is spectacular. The staff is beyond helpful. The food is absolutely delicious. We got the white fish, and it was by far the best fish I've ever eaten!!

Amazing food here. Maybe the best sushi on the west coast. Beautiful clean atmosphere. Enjoyed the whole experience.
Great service and atmosphere. They time your dishes so you are not overwhelmed. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants good food with a great dining experience. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. My bartender guided me through a great culinary experience with great food and drink pairings.
We attended a business dinner in their private dinning room. The room was amazing, the staff were very attentive and extremely professional. Everything from the starter, a salmon pate, to the dinner, Alaskan hake and the dessert a chocolate explosion cake was delicious. Most impressive was their staff. They really took care of everyone and the evening was a great success.
Excellent restaurant, top notch service and elegant design/settings. The food is definitely tasty and fantastic. The chef definitely knows what he/she does. Its a fine dining restaurant so if you are going be prepared to fork out a couple of hundred bucks for dinner for two. We enjoyed the atmosphere,. Our table was inside of the more private rooms with wine all over the walls. All and all it was a great experience specialy for my wife so it was worth it. Portions are small so if you are a big eater this is not the place for you, lol. We enjoyed our dinner for sure and out waiter was very attentive for sure.
We had high expectations for Blue Water given all the great reviews. Unfortunately our dinner experience was quite lackluster. The service felt transactional, very matter-of-fact, not warm and welcoming like one would expect from a higher end establishment. The quality of food was mediocre overall. We should have realized that the sushi here is not its specialty. I actually found a bone in my yellowtail nigiri. We also thought the nigiri platter would have some of the better pieces of fish but that was not the case. Order individual nigiri if you absolutely have to, and do not expect them to be pre-seasoned with wasabi and soy sauce. The only saving grace was the A5 Wagyu Beef from Miyazaki Prefecture. That was fantastic. If we had to choose again for the only dinner/evening we had in town, it wouldn't be here.
This is my absolute favorite place in Vancouver to go for seafood. I find a lot of places offering fish dishes tend to overcook them, but this place does an incredible job. Went with my family and we had 4 different fish dishes, all of which were perfectly done. Well worth the price, and the ambience is lovely as well.
Great food and service!!
Great service, food was stunning and the attention to details impeccable. It is always a culinary highlight to come to Blue Water. well done to everyone involved and hope to see you soon!
Definitely one of the BEST restaurants I have been to. Every Cocktail and every dish was made to perfection. Probably only restaurant to have the most elaborate bar menu. Love it !! The staff was lovely as well. I had some of the best oysters here. The lamb was so perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavor. The seafood tasting for two was an absolute delight. Also words are less to describe their delicious and mouth watering lobster. It has become my favorite restaurant in Vancouver. My tastebuds still remember the lovely Tiramisu I had here. Highly recommended place.
Absolutely amazing food. I highly recommend checking them out and getting their seared ahi tuna dish.
The restaurant is nice. It's "classy" in the traditional sense of the word. The food was good but not spectacular. I'm sure it's one of these places where a customer can get a consistently good seafood meal. Great service and good food. It's a winning combination. We started out with 2 oysters each... Sunseekers and Raspberry. Ok... I'm not a big oyster fan but I had to have a bit. Then we had the Seafood Sampler for 2... overall, pretty good. Gives you good variety. I can't remember every dish but it's a must try, if for nothing else, just to get a taste of what's out there.
Upscale. Fresh. Fancy. Pricey. Wished for bigger portions. Nice presentation. Taste was average. Not much elbow room between tables. Could hear every word from the table next to us. Left feeling broke and hungry.
Good food and good service!
Wow! Best black cod (sablefish) I've ever had. The oysters were also really fresh and tasty, with a wide range of local varieties. Would love to go back and try the raw menu (sushi) and the platters had by the tables either side of me also looked fantastic. Service was lovely - the waitress who served me was friendly and very knowledgeable.
We went back to Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar tonight and it was a good as I remembered it to be. This is one of my all-time favourite restaurants because the food is spectacular, the atmosphere is vibrant, and the service and attention to detail is impeccable. It’s just a very comfortable place to have an amazing dinner ❤️
Amazing food. Must order the Seafood Tower.
Friendly crowd at the bar. Excellent fresh seafood. Busy but good for conversation.
Service
The food and service are always first class! Among all the options they have on the menu, we always go for the seafood tower. Fresh seafood, crab cooked at the minute, you can not expect any better Their wine list is impressive and they carry a cab sae from Oregon only produced by the owner Aqualini. Cant find ithat wine anywhere else. Dam it.... A great cabernet at a good value. IMy husband and I love the restaurant atmosphere and the traditional style. It was a fabulous meal for a special occasion.. Will be back soon.
Booked a birthday dinner for my wife and I. The server, Jose, did all he could to make it extra special. We ordered the seafood tower, the Wagyu, and risotto. The food was amazing. If you’ve never had Wagyu before, it’s definitely a must try. Pistachio creme brûlée was the perfect way to end our night. Thanks for the great food and service!

Glad that Blue Water Cafe has managed to stay open during the pandemic as their quality and service hasn't changed and is still amazing. If you want fresh seafood and a japanese fusion menu, definitely make an effort to try them out. As I was able to go for a dine out and a birthday celebration, I do recommend to book in advance as seats are limited. You can do it online or call in. As they are bit on the pricier side, make sure you come to spend and treat yourself. I recommend if you are going with a group, order their seafood tower as it serves a little bit of everything and makes a nice insta story/photo. Also if you have read my previous reviews, I love my corpse reviver 2 and they make a very good one so give it a try. As for mains, I don't have a specific one but brant lake wagyu flat iron steak and sablefish are money. Parking is a lot better now that they removed the other side. You can also valet if you feel like it. Yaletown a great place to walk around so if you go for an early dinner, take a nice stroll afterwards to walk it off. Overall one of my favorite restaurants and would highly recommend them to anyone looks to splurge on a night out.
Quality seafood and exceptional service. You should sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine in the heart of Yaletown
Went for my 6th anniversary and not only was the service out of this world; the food was sensational. When we arrived we we're welcomed by a note at our table from the restaurant staff congratulating us which was so sweet. Was immediately offered champagne to celebrate. We started off with the seafood tasting for 2. Our server explained that in order to have the best experience we would have to start from top to bottom. And let me tell you, this is a must have ! Symphony in your mouth !! Our mains, dessert and cappuccino were delicious also but I think the winner of the night was definitely that starter. Thank you Blue Water Cafe, will be coming back to test out some more of your food.
The food was delicious and felt very high quality, although a bit expensive but you should know that before walking into the restaurant, service was very good and felt welcome, I would recommend this place for anybody looking for a fancy place to dine out in for anniversary or special event.
Delicious seafood is synonym for Blue Water Cafe. The perfect place for a date night or any other special occasion, I have celebrated many birthdays here. The last time I went the service was a little lackluster, not bad, but not great. The wine list is excellent, and it has one of the best lobster I have tasted.
Some of the best food I’ve had in my whole life, dessert was impeccably balanced and drinks were inspired. Our server, Sheena, was absolutely fantastic, would absolutely come again.
Amazing food and an extensive list of wines. This place always impresses with their service, food, and ambience. The freshness of their seafood is definitely top class. From preparation of the dishes, to the plating and presentation; there is attention to subtle details. The desserts are a great way to end an evening of indulgence. From the moment you step foot in the door, you feel welcomed. The team there work well together to create a venue perfect for celebrating any occasion.
Was so looking forward to this visit. The restaurant has a beautiful and really warm patio on one of coldest nights of the season, but we chose to sit inside. Inside is pretty, although it feels a bit aged. Tried scallops (both appetizer and entree) and the sea bass. Scallops did not live up to the hype; I have had much better scallops elsewhere. These were bland and the food presentation was seemed too busy to me. Sea bass was really good though. Drinks were nice too. Service was fun and courteous. Was too full to try their desserts but the menu looked very appealing. I will be back but for a different choice of foods.
Blue Water Cafe ⠀ I recently enjoyed an amazing 5-course prix fixe menu dinner @bluewatercafe This was a limited offer and I hope they will bring it back as it was one of the best deals at $49 ⠀ ????Manhattan scallop & clam chowder and ricotta Madeleine with fennel seed ????Smoked duck breast salad Albacore tuna donburi ????caramelized onion tart ????Pistachio crusted halibut Chicken cordon bleu ????warm valrhona chocolate cake Little sweets ????The Offshore Account, @bacardi 4, benedictine, guava, lime, cinnamon ⠀ I love the creativity with the albacore tuna donburi, slices of tuna was wrapped around the rice. It was marinated with maple soy and consist of egg crepe, rice, edamame, bok choy, radish, and kaiware. It was a fresh and delicious dish. The chicken cordon bleu was my main, tender breaded chicken breast with smoked ham and white cheddar heirloom carrots. All this deliciousness sits on top of a classic chicken veloute sauce with wintery savoury. The breaded layer was perfectly crispy and succulent chicken breast dipped in the sauce made for an unforgettable bite???? The warm valrhona chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce was a perfect finish to the fabulous meal. ⠀ Overall, this was a fantastic 5 course meal and great value. The service was excellent, attentive and very friendly! The decor and ambience was warming and comforting. Even with a large space, it was an intimate spot. I will definitely be back again to experience one of the best seafood restaurant in Vancouver ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
There’s a reason why this is one of the top recommended restaurants in Vancouver. From service to food, it’s absolutely top notch. Very professional staff with a great sense of humor. Food is amazing as well. I initially ordered their sturgeon and after mentioning it wasn’t my taste, they let me try their sablefish which was so delicious. Now, I order it each time I go back. Highly, highly recommended!
Exceptional. Our server Brent made for a wonderful evening. Surely Vancouver's best. The food from appetizers to dessert were fresh ,amazingly prepared and diplayed beautifully. Just returned from a special dinner with wine pairing the entire experience was exceptional. Can't wait to go back.
AMAZING Customer service. They have great interaction with customers. The bartender Rachel did great service and made our evening awesome. I don’t like one of the cocktail ( its just my pallet issues), she immediately switch it. She said.. you dont have to drink and pay for it if you don’t like it. one of our meals came late so they gave it on the house a.k.a. for free. Food was at its best. Fresh cook bread was amazing with a little nice butter to top it off. The halibut was amazing. Dover fish was definitely the highlight of the evening amazing taste amazing the cup so much flavour it was amazing. The cocktails were good. The Lava cake tasted so good ...the cake part was really moist and the chocolate was flowing out... it was all so pretty... the ice cream and chocolate mixture ratio was amazing amazing
The food here was absolutely amazing. I got the sablefish as my main course and it was the best thing I'd ever eaten. Service is also amazing, and the atmosphere is pleasant as well.
We only had drinks there so my review only refers to the bar area. The bartenders are extremely talented. Their specialty drinks are an absolute must try. The decor and ambiance are classy so put on your best and have fun.
Had some amazing, beyond fresh seafood here. As oyster fans we were living the dream, they have a mammoth list with dozens of options. The sashimi was excellent too. The raw stuff was so fantastic it overshadowed the more traditional entree. Also wasn't a big fan of the service, the waitstaff were just formal enough to make me feel like I was doing something wrong at all times, and it would have been nice to get a little spiel offering tips on navigating the massive menu. But all of these complaints melt away when I think of those oysters...
Food was excellent; service terrible. Last evening, we had reservations for 4 and told the waiter (a very large male) that we had only 1.5 hours to dine, as we had tickets to the symphony. He assured us this would be no problem. After collecting our completed dinner plates, we waited 11 minutes to order dessert. When he finally arrived to take our dessert orders, we told him we thought we'd have to pass on dessert, but he assured us that it would be there in TWO minutes. We then paid our bill in cash, unfortunately, along with a generous tip, in cash. Eight minutes later, still no dessert. We tried to catch his eye, but he was too busy? We got up to leave and he was ten feet away, ignoring us. We left, having paid for desserts and a healthy tip that we felt he did not deserve. How could he not notice 4 people getting up to leave when he was ten feet away? A sideways glance or normal peripheral vision would have notified him of our impending departure. No offer to refund our desserts, which still had not arrived. I wonder if he "refunded" our cash-paid desserts to himself?
Delicious food and nice waiters. Everything is just fine!
Had the sablefish, spicy tuna roll, oysters, and pistachio brulee. Sablefish was perfectly cooked and melted like butter. Was a bit on the salty side for me which made it a little hard to enjoy the perfectly cooked fish. Spicy tuna roll was very fresh, though I did wish that it was a little spicy. Oysters were okay. The pistachio brulee was okay as well although the star was the chocolate mousse served with it, it was was absolutely delicious with the fruit coulis. Kind of wish there was a touch more fruit coulis on the plate because it was so delicious and sweet and the tartness cut the creaminess of the dessert just right. The little complimentary petit fours that came with the bill were stale. Overall vibe and service were great.
My colleague and I were recommended the Blue Water Cafe, and we decided to give it a a go after reading great reviews, and seeking an exceptional experience. Our server was prompt, respectful and personable, and most of the food was great as well. On the contrary, my colleague requested her lobster be grilled, and our server insisted it would be best enjoyed poached, although she continued to state that she preferred it grilled. Since he persisted, she went along with his recommendation, and was very dissapointed. After voicing that she was unsatisfied, the server didn't compensate us in any way. Great ambience, and consistent service however we were dissapointed in the recommendation, and lack of understanding, especially for a fine dining experience.
My wife and I tried this place upon a recommendation. Great location and the service was pretty good. The highlight for us was the pastry chef. The homemade buns and chocolate cake were very good. The “tsunami” sashimi style dish was also quite good. The dinner, unfortunately, was down hill from there. We shared a Northern Shrimp Cocktail, which was way too full of mayo and really not satisfying at all. My wife had the scallops for her main. The endives as a side completely over powered the scallops. While the scallops were cooked well, the seasoning was lacking. In short, a very unbalanced dish, the flavours simply didn’t match each other. I had the yellowfin tuna main. I quite enjoyed the bean/vegetable medley, but the tuna was flavourless (although cooked well). After tasting the vegetable/bean medley my wife suggested that would have been a better pairing with the scallops and I agree. Drinks were ok, we had one miss and one hit. In short, for the price paid, we won’t be in a rush to go back. It seems more of “THE” place to go and be seen. If you are a true gourmand, I would suggest just skipping this place. Disappointed for sure.
I have tried this place three times now and each time it has been off. I had a 75 dollar lobster that was overcooked and had an extremely salty sauce. Do they taste in the kitchen? Previously I had scallops that were overcooked. Such a shame to cook so poorly when you have beautiful ingredients. I have given this place several chances to redeem itself but I don't think it is going to happen until they get more skill and perhaps experience in the kitchen.
I give it 1 star, the fact that it was our fist time no one ask us or cared but they ask the people after us and help them with their order and also brought them bread out, so my husband and I walked out then they wanted to know why. I guess they didn’t expect us to be their but I told the waiter my money spends like everyone else, do I expect to be treated like everyone, the menu was pricey but we were ok either that. First impression means a lot to me so he’ll NO I wouldn’t go back!!!
I took My wife for our anniversary on Saturday. I booked online and the website had a section where I can select certain occasions which was nice! Anyways we sat right away and Blue Water catered to our 11 month old as well without any problems! The service was impeccable and the food was simply amazing. And to end our evening they presented us with a mini dessert on the house. Thank you Blue Water Cafe for the experience! We will be back and hopefully without kids. :)
Amazing ingredients and very well cook
Food is always great here and we've never had a bad meal at Blue Water. However the server was very busy and it felt as if he was rushed to talk to us each time. No small talk and he would be really quick to leave each time he took our order. Still, don't let that stop you from having an amazing meal if you've never been here!
Absolutely amazing experience and dinner here! Came here for our first time together for our 2nd anniversary and the Service was immaculate and the food was just legendary from the first plates to the main course (My halibut was cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for!!) to the lovely anniversary card they gave us and the pistachio creme brûlée was just simply the best. No question of our best experiences ever and will definitely be coming back! Cheers ????????
Amazing service, beautifully designed, stylish plants and gardening, amazing food, great quality and taste and design. I loved my 5 course dinner( carrot soup, Salad, Ahi tuna, lava chocolate cake). Price is reasonable for fine dining, (even better than other restaurants that call themselves fine dining but are fake) I definitely recommend!
Top notched food and atmosphere! Celebrated our anniversary here and look at all the extra things they offered! Very delicious oysters and sushi! It’s the perfect sized sushi that you would have in Japan! The main course halibut and sablefish were cooked to perfection! Dessert pistachio creme brûlée and warm chocolate lava cake were to die for! Will definitely recommend it!
Overall experience was completely overpriced considering the service, food and ambience. We were seated on the patio for 9:30pm dinner on Friday. From a service perspective, our waitress only came to our table to take our order, bring our food and check in once. She did not advise us of the time the kitchen closing and when we asked for an additional dish, she informed us the kitchen was closed. We ordered oysters, sashimi, rolls and sablefish. Oysters were oysters, raw items were good (not as good as Miku) and Sablefish was average (broth had no flavour to it). Go to Published On Main and try their Sablefish (and whole menu) instead. There was also a lot of waiting time in-between dishes. In terms of ambience, there were mice running around on the patio and we had drunk people walking by pop their head in and ask us for food. We noticed the waitress tended to a table of four close by to us frequently throughout the night, but never checked in on us. The patio was not overly busy and there is no reason to have provided poor service. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant based on this poor experience. There are so many great restaurants in the city. Do not waste your time and money here!
Went for a Christmas dinner. Had the seafood tower, tenderloin, and black forest panna cotta. The seafood was fresh, my steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked (and so tender I cut it with a butter knife), and the desert was a very creative interpretation on Black Forest - and not too sweet which suits my palette. Overall, both the food and service were both outstanding as I've come to expect from Blue Water. For the price, I'd say it's one of the best restaurants in Vancouver. Definitely repeating for future special occasions!
Absolutely amazing! So far one of the best restaurants I've been to in Vancouver. You know it's going to be a great experience since the moment you arrive to the restaurant. The hostesses gave us a warm welcoming, and were very friendly and helpful. After we settled down in our table, the server immediately greeted us. He was extremely professional and knowledgable about the items on the menu. The waiter thoroughly described what was on the menu, and particularly recommended any of their three signature dishes: the Chard, the Sablefish, and the Scallops. We ordered all of them. My guests were fascinated with the taste of their dishes, and I fell in love with their traditional Sablefish recipe. In addition, we asked for a wine recommendation and the one he suggested was a perfect fit for what we were looking for. Finally, it is worthy to mention that we went there on a Wednesday night and our conversation extended until late. We were the last guests in the place, but we never felt that usual pressure of having to leave. This is strongly appreciated since I have been in places where they kick you out in a discourteous manner. Definitely going back.
My favorite in the city by far. One of the best place to get sea food in the west coast, it can even compete with LA. Simply a great restaurant. I had a seafood platter and then the sashimi platter and it was just amazing. Fresh products, delicious, melted in the mouth and with a great service on a beautiful terrace. Unforgettable night!
Food was mediocre. Lobster sushi terrible and they could not cook steak properly and it was not worth the expense.
Blue Water has been one of our consistent go-to places to hit up when we're looking for a good seafood tower. Recently, we came back to celebrate a special occasion and ordered the Blue Water Cafe Tower which is a 3-tier assortment of mussels, clams, oysters, prawns as well as tuna tataki, salmon tartare, jellyfish, scallop ceviche, spicy tuna roll, real crab California roll, tuna gommae, and lobster. Super fresh and super tasty. Also super filling.
A very famous restaurant in Vancouver; great place to bring out of town guests. It was listed as the best seafood restaurant of 2017, so great place for those who love seafood. The service was phenomenal. The food was amazing and well worth the price. It is not a cheap restaurant by any means, but a great place for special nights with loved ones. Also, beautiful decor!
Hosted my husband's 50th birthday dinner here with a customized group menu, cake and wine list. The food, dessert and beverages were all delicious, and the service was second to none. Thank you Stephan, William, Natasha, et al for creating a truly memorable experience for host, guests and birthday "boy" alike. I will definitely return for another special occasion, and I know at least two of my guests are already considering your restaurant for upcoming events. Cheers!
My friends and I were visiting from toronto and had to try this restaurant given their reputation! We sat in the patio area and booked via open table. We had an amazing waiter named Brent - so insightful sharing what to try on the menu based off our preferences! My favourite was the hamachi and toro sashimi - SO GOOD.
While the seafood was delicious and our waiter was extremely helpful, my friends and I walked away with a bad taste in our moth over this dinner. We're visiting from out of town and my friend really really wanted to come here. We made reservations, and then were a bit frustrated when we were made to wait an additional 20 minutes while many other parties who arrived after us were seated almost immediately. We then had a number of mistakes made with our drink ordered, and when we brought the mistakes to the attention of the staff when we received the bill, they were less than receptive. This is clearly a high quality restaurant and I was extremely disappointed to feel brushed off so many times.
We were here for our wedding anniversary and we had a great experience with their food. And plus we would like to thank ""Melissa"" for all the good services she gave us that day. She was very kind, thoughtful and super friendly. We felt grateful beyond words. The only one thing we hope is that they will open a little bit earlier like 3 p.m. or so so that we can get our lunch-dinner around 3~5 p.m.
Unbelievably fresh seafood with an amazing wine list. The dishes were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The service was fantastic.
One of the best restaurant in Vancouver. Excellent and quick service, my favorite dish is burger. if you near about in Vancouver must visited blue water café. Highly recommended.
Excellent drinks and food. Prices are reasonable but they do add up as you add courses, so for me this is a special event place to eat.
Great food & service our server Tara did a fantastic job explaining all the dishes and how it's prepared.
Blue Water Cafe was outstanding! We had a fantastic meal. The Kobe Beef meatball appetizer was delicious, as were the sushi plates. Dinner entrees were beyond outstanding. I had the scallops, my husband had the Ling Cod and my brother-in-law had the sturgeon. We each shared bites and they were all wonderful! Not only was the seafood itself delicious, but the preparations, accompaniments and presentations enhanced each dish beautifully! The employees were very terrific--efficient, personable and professional! It was not only an unbelievably delicious dinner, but a very memorable experience!
This is a great place to eat. The place is nicely decorated (not great but hey!), the service is beyond excellent and their food is fantastic. The portions are good size, the quality and the flavors are well balanced and the variety of the menu is good. The combo of a nice place, great service and great food makes a fantastic restaurant! It is expensive but in my opinion the price is proportionate for what you get. Definitely we will go back and highly recommend it. And the brownie points: I have a severe allergy and the chef modified the recipe so I wouldn't have any issues. Clearly you could say that they were attentive and accommodating . Absolutely amazing!
We recently celebrated our anniversary at Blue Water Cafe and had an amazing experience. Our server did an incredible job of making our evening very special. Food wise, everything was incredible, as always. The bread was fresh and the halibut was cooked perfectly. Amazing salad to start also. To top off the evening, our server brought out a little plate with a couple biscuits and on the plate, written in chocolate, was Happy Anniversary. Truly a very special night. Thank you.
Fantastic meals, good service, and great atmosphere. I love how Blue is not afraid to use herbs and spices in their dishes! Their meals are so delicious and beautifully presented.
Great seafood restaurant by the same owners of CinCin and Araxi in Whistler. Huge bar also with great selection of wine and whiskers. We started at the bar with a cava and rose sparkling from Luxembourg. Both very good. Once seated we perused the huge menu of sustainably harvested fish and other seafood. According to the menu mostly harvested by longline or traps as opposed to fishing nets. The oyster menu is huge but they only have 5 varieties on any given night. We had Marina and Kusshi and Chefs. They were all good not that I can tell the difference. Had mine with a vodka and that was very good. Also had Toro (albacore tuna belly) and it too was delicious. Buttery flavor that just melts in your mouth. Yum. Finished with the char served on a bed of risotto like something with roe. Tasted very good even if I was not sure what it was. They had dessert options but we were too full by then.
Dinner
This was great. Food is out of this world. Drinks were superb. Service could have been more attentive, and faster, but I will be back.
Amazing food, ambience and service!
Had an amazing belated birthday dinner for a girlfriend at Blue Water Cafe. Everything was so delicious! We wanted everything and basically ordered the whole the menu! Lol. Between the six of us, we shared: Appetizers: Kusshi oysters, Baked Bay Scallops with Parmesan Crust, Dungeness Crab + Matane Shrimp Salad, Smoked Sockeye Salmon Terrine, Albacore Tuna & Steelhead Trout Tartar, Sockeye Salmon sashimi, Dungeness Crab Roll, Aburi Sablefish Battera, and Octopus -something (forgot what it was called. May have been a special that day). And lastly, Sablefish (normally an entree) was shared as an appetizer too. Entrees and sides included: Sablefish, Halibut (with Seared Sea Scallop added), Brant Lake Wagyu Flat Iron Steak, Pommes Frites with White Truffle Oil and Parmesan, Sauteed Mushrooms Medley, Broccolini, and Oceanwise Jumbo Prawns in Garlic Butter. But the highlight of our dinner was hands-down this A5 Kuroge Wagyu Rib Eye. We definitely YOLO'd and got 6oz. Between the 6 of us, it was basically $40/1oz piece.. and OMG, it was AH-MAY-ZING. Melt-in-your-mouth, buttery goodness, cooked to perfection. Yup, we definitely went all out with this dinner. Lots of food between the 6 of us (girls). Simply a phenomenal dining experience. Absolutely yummy!
Wonderful atmosphere with several private rooms. Very fresh seafood, and the non-seafood items were equally as good. Very nice wine selection and well-trained attentive waitstaff
fourth time dining here and it's always a pleasure. everything about it-- food, ambience, quality, service-- is faultless. lobster was cooked to perfection and the potatoes turned me into a believer. the desserts are also a must-- the molten chocolate cake is a mainstay and unlike any other, surprisingly light and fluffy.
Great food, great drinks, great service, great atmosphere. This is where my wife and I go anytime we want to celebrate somewhere nice.
My favourite restaurant in Vancouver - very nice, but not too smart or pretentious. Excellent seafood (maybe the appetizers are a bit traditional/old fashioned), sushi and desserts. Great service. Extensive wine list. Highly recommended.
Thank you Jose for guiding us through a perfect dinner. The oysters were perfect. The preparation on the lobster was served exactly as described. All the wines paired with our meals. Truly fantastic service. Well done!
Dinner
If you’re a Sea Food lover you def. gotta check this place out! They have a delightful wine selection and tasty food. Great service and amazing atmosphere!!
Wonderful restaurant! We got to sit at the sushi bar and watch the chefs at work. Our waitress was extremely helpful and our sushi was amazing!
Great food and even better service
I Google take me to the best restaurant in Vancouver. The hospitality is world class the space is impeccable. The culinary experience is memorable.
Don’t leave reviews often but the hospitality and care taken by Alex has left us speechless. Food was fantastic but service is important and Alex made sure of that!
This place is absolutely unreal. The sushi from the raw bar is so good and the steaks are amazing too. Highly recommend checking this place out, the staff are amazing. I can't wait to come back again!
This place is great! The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. Amazing wines, food and service. Staff are knowledgeable and make great recommendations.
We booked a table last week which got cancelled last minute due to COVID. When they reopened this week we immediately rebooked for today! As an apology we received a $100 gift voucher (after we booked), totally not necessary as obviously outside their control Blue Water was already our favourite restaurant in Vancouver (by far!) as the food and staff are simply amazing. Special shout out to our waitress tonight Marissa, she has been our waitress a couple times now and she is so attentive, friendly and genuinely loves her work! We had another fabulous experience and this place deserves 10 stars!! Can't wait to be back soon!
Great food, amazing service, the whiskey collection is unbelievable highly recommend Red brest 21.
Had a signature 3 tiers tower and jacob ladder in a double date, the mood was good, waitress was nice and willing to explain all menu, Will definitely go again. The only suggest I would give is to replace those sushi rolls in the tower to some other seafood
I heard about this place via Vancouver Magazine, it was listed as the best seafood restaurant of 2017. Having been there, I could easily see why! The service was phenomenal. Hands down a treat to be there. Our server was confident and knowledgeable in every dish, was able to suggest amazing dishes, and rattled off the specials with ease and delight. The food was amazing. Every dish we had (we had quite a few) was spectacular and they were very open to changing sides to suit allergies or pallet. There was a slight mix up with an item, but it was handled with grace and the chef offered up his apologies and even provided us with a special dish, despite our initial confirmation that we were fine. It was an amazing treat and unexpected. It is not a cheap location by any means, but if you’re looking to celebrate a night with someone, I cannot recommend this place enough!
We celebrated birthday last night. The service was great and patient. The tsunami was amazing but very disspoint for other food that we ordered. It was salty and greasy. Overpriced. There are other good restaurants better than this one.
Great service, food is even better and very nice environment to go and celebrate that special occasion. The only thing (if any) is that prices are higher than the usual restaurant (worth it). So is not an every day restaurant and make sure to have a reservation before you go or you will not be able to get a table
Professor Brent, our server, gave us the most amazing Oyster Eating 101. Knowledgeable and funny, he started us off with an easy-to-love oyster and moved into more explorative ones as we went. My dining companion was brand new to eating them and previously had no interest in trying and left after six with a brand new appreciation. Thank you so much for an awesome time!
The food, service, and atmosphere were all amazing! The oysters were phenomenal and everything was cooked to perfection. Our server was extremely kind and helpful. I would 100% recommend Blue Water to anyone looking for a great dining experience.
Soooo delicious!!! Every single thing you read on Google, positive that is, it's all true. We are from OK and first time visitors here. The service is stellar, the food is impeccable (you eat with your eyes), the taste is equally mouthwatering and delicious! Our server was the sweetest!!! Took time to explain the menu outside of the normal criteria, she explained favorites and popular dishes. She also took the time to get to know us while keeping it short and pleasant. We shared a starter, each got a meal and one glass of local Chardonnay (incredibly scrumptious). Parking is a little confusing, you need to pay by phone or at the kiosk. Indoor and outdoor seating, very elegant dining with mood setting light. Bathrooms are immaculate and high tech. We did go during the month of December and there was festive holiday decor.
Did private room for my brother's birthday. Staff attentive and covid restrictions check! I put 4 stars because we kept getting dirty dishes.. Lipstick marked cups++ and dirty utensils. They would remedy it asap and were very apologetic. I would understand once, but it was a repeated mistake all night. I think myself I sent back 3 cups from lipstick lips on it. Otherwise the food was phenomenal! Highly recommend. I'd come back!
We had a delicious 5 course meal, very flavourful, creatively plated, quality food, wonderful service.
Look no further for the BEST west coast seafood experience in Vancouver. Also worth noting, the service is IMPECCABLE! 5 stars... WITHOUT A SECOND GUESS
One of the best dining experiences in Vancouver... from welcome hostess, through the delightful serving from David, the gentle wisdom of the sommelier Adrianne, and the course after course of brilliant food from the skilled kitchen, an evening filled with food, fun and laughter. Don't show up without a reservation, but don't miss the chance to come share the experience
Good food but for what you’re paying for, there are other restaurants in Vancouver that offer so much more for the palate and experience and for much less. Sablefish is definitely recommended.
Always an exceptional experience at Blue Water - consistently providing excellent service, menu choice, presentation and cuisine! The sablefish is my favorite and recommended. And the cocktails are always perfect - lots of liquor options! I've hosted a few private events at Blue Water and the team always ensure success and exceeds expectations!
Lovely dinner ???? We went here for a double birthday. Covid measures were in place. Lots of social distancing and mask wearing. We were seated in the wine celler room and had a lovely table. The service was friendly, informative and attentive. We enjoyed a 5 course set menu. The food was fresh and delicious. Drinks were yummy and cold. Loved their specialty Moscow mule. Duck salad, lamb, vanilla raspberry cake, and chocolate cake ALL Yummy. ???? Definitely a 5 star experience. A great place place to treat yourself.
Delicious, good service, back room was quieter than main dining but lighting was bright.
This might just be my favorite restaurant I've ever been to. Went with my kids (aged 12 & 14) and we were all blown away by the extremely high quality of very part of our meal. The cocktail I had was sinfully divine, I may never be able to eat another crab salad after savoring every morsel of my appetizer. The entire menu is filled with so many sensational choices. The staff could not have been more attentive even if their lived depended on it. The decore is urban chic and the food is simply to die for. Will eat hear EVERY time I'm in Vancouver!
We took an out-of-town friend here for dinner. She was looking forward to having some local seafood. We decided to come here because it was close to the Opus Hotel, where she was staying. For starters, we shared the Seafood Tasting for two, adding a third portion. Included in the tasting dishes were a dungeness crab with baby shrimps dish, a scallop cerviche, a tuna tartare, and a smoked sockeye salmon terrine. For the main courses, we ordered to share a sablefish, a scallops dish, and the Kobe style shortribs. The tasting dishes gave us a variety of seafood to try. I am a real fan of sablefish - probably my favourite fish - which is what I ordered. The shortribs were very tender - melts in your mouth. We really enjoyed every dish. The service was great - the waitress helped us decide on what to order and explained each dish for us. It was probably the best seafood dinner we've had in a while.
Wonderful service, amazing food and overall great atmosphere! Very great option for more of a fine dining experience. Prices are above your average restaurant prices.
Probably the best western seafood in town with great service. This is a place you take someone if you have some extra cash to spend and want to impress someone. I would highly recommend the seafood tower for groups to share as you get a sample of everything and the seafood is very fresh. I also ordered the miso sablefish, which was super tender and full of flavour; I would once again recommend getting this. Everything we ordered was great! In terms of service, my friend's fish was overcooked so they brought us a new one and offered a salad on the house. So yes, the service is great and they really try to ensure you have an enjoyable experience. Although this place is on the pricier end, it's worth it for those extra special occasions. I would also recommend parking your car with vallet because it's probably cheaper than parking by a nearby meter unless if it's after 10pm.
We've been here twice and both times were for our anniversary. Both times the service was good and the seafood delicious! Highly recommend their sablefish (it's the only thing I get there aside from oysters and desserts.) best preparation of sablefish in the city in my opinion (better than Yew and Hawksworth.)
Ask any local what is the best restaurant in Vancouver and their answer is The Blue Water Cafe. Service is exceptional, food incredible and atmosphere spot on. Best Oysters I have ever tasted, ask for Sunseeker Oysters, local BC type.
Amazing dining experience! Quality of seafood was excellent. Service was phenomenal. Everything was incredibly fresh. I gave 4 stars however, because it felt as though there wasn’t a chef in house. The char was minorly undercooked and the scallops were only partially seared. Salad menu was also mediocre. Not one local, seasonal option popped out at me. I chose to omit the salad menu altogether. Plenty of desserts to choose from with a charcuterie also included for those that prefer a more savoury dessert.
Wow this place is incredible. We had a private event in the Arctic + Atlantic Rooms. We started with seafood towers and bubbly - very nice. Then we sat down and had a 3 course meal. All food was perfectly cooked. Their chefs are amazing. I'd highly recommend this place for a special event or celebration.
Spicy tuna and dynamite roll were delicious, but the pistachio creme brûlée with a chocolate mousse was next level! Definitely recommend - found it strange that the dumpster was right in front of the restaurant, but at least we didn’t notice until getting in our Uber.
For mains, I ordered the sable fish. Perfect cook on the fish. And the broth. Lovely. Edamame in the broth, killer! Glad we also tried the nigiri platter as starter. So fresh!
What a place. Very nice to go out for dinner here. Staff is very friendly. Food is amazing. Their drinks list is almost endless. Definitely recommend checking this out. It's not the cheapest but worth it.
Love the food. Oeysters, fish, and great wine...and staff is perfect
This place was worth the hype and worth the price. The ambience is pleasant, the staff are knowledgeable and attentive, and the Chef makes these meals with a true love for seafood. The fact that the seafood is sustainable and local really brings it all to the next level. Go here...you won’t regret it.
My wife and I love the food and service here. The raw oysters served with garlic and some red wine vinegar dressing and horseradish are so good. We’ve tried some of their sushi dishes and other mains like beef tenderloin and sablefish and most of them are just delicious. The desserts we’ve tried are also top notch. The prices are expectedly on the higher end but it’s worth it. Be aware that street parking in the area is pretty expensive.
Wow - one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had! Seriously. Their reputation as the best seafood is so well-deserved. We live in San Francisco and get great fresh ingredients (or so I thought). This meal was at a whole different level than anything I could have conceived of previously. You almost didn’t need teeth, the fish was so tender. And, the service - holy cow. We sat at the bar and our server offered to guide us through the menu, which was the best choice ever. We had the perfect sampling of shareable plates and more substantial dishes, all paired with exactly the right wines. We felt so pampered, nourished, relaxed, and sated. It honestly could not have been any better - flawless food, service, and a great atmosphere. At the end of the night, we asked a gentleman (not knowing he was the manager) for tips on calling a cab. Not only did he take care of it for us, but when we walked outside, he was holding the door open for us. I felt like royalty - completely spoiled rotten. Yes, it is pricey, but you cannot possibly assign a dollar value to the kind of experience these folks create. It is impeccable, and not to be missed if you have the chance to go. Please do. You won’t be sorry.
Service
We went to this place for the first time today and I must say it’s an amazing place for a great night out !!! The food and service was exceptional. I have dairy intolerance so I mentioned it to my server in the very beginning and until the very end he made sure I am enjoying everything just the way I like it :) I forgot his name but he was so professional, and great at what he was doing. I am very impressed with this place !! I am a very picky eater and very hard to impress when it comes to restaurants but this place exceeded mine and my husbands expectations tonight. A very special thanks giving experience ❤️????????
Super amazing food. Crab and matane shrimp salad was phenomenal. Flat iron steak cooked to perfection, and the tiramasu is to die for. Impeccable service, and great atmosphere. I'll be coming again.
Quick Summary Had a fantastic birthday dinner. Everything was fantastic, from the service, the food, and the ambiance. The sablefish and the seafood tasting for 2 were the most memorable dishes. Highly recommend to make reservations. They pride themselves in being sustainable, so that's a plus Food- 5 stars Seafood tasting for 2- I'm so glad our server convinced us to give this a try. Very elegantly plated and I loved how each plate had a different flavor profile and was ordered perfectly. Highly recommend Halibut- the halibut was good, but slightly disappointed that the fish was slightly overcooked. The sauce masked the slightly overcooked fish, but it was still pretty good Sablefish- this was phenomenal. Cooked perfectly and enjoyed each and every bite. Will come back to get this from now on Warm dark chocolate cake and greek yoghurt cheesecake- both desserts were pretty good. They were standard desserts. Done well but not as memorable as the dishes listed above Service- 5 stars Our server was fantastic. Excellent service throughout and loved his recommendations and honesty Bottom Line This was my by far my favorite restaurant in Vancouver. Would highly recommend and will be coming back for that sablefish
A classic fine dining staple of Vancouver. Seafood is always at its best here. The menu is seemingly always refreshed. Did not have a reservation this time, however they were able to accommodate us at the bar for our dinner time meal. Was a great place to people watch and chat with the bartender. The full menu is available at the bar as well. Opened up with some pork cheeks and scallops, main entrée was black cod. And we both had a local IPA. As with most restaurants, Covid has made table spacing much wider. Luckily, this restaurant is very roomy and has a large outdoor eating area as well. It feels busy, but not crowded. Great atmosphere. Always reliable.
Meal type
Was there for an industry event, so ate off the set menu. The seafood starter tower is amazing. Had the sablefish as my main... Really generous portion. Is a rich dish, so goes a long way. Service was excellent and attentive for a group setting. The rose we were drinking was delicious. Great restaurant.
Came here a few months ago for a friends birthday. We had a large group. The private room was nice but the servers could have been better prepared. Messed up our bills even with them taking our names and credit cards before hand, food on the set menu was mediocre, took them +30mins to bring my friend his beer. If your dining in a group of +15, you can probably find a better experience elsewhere.
Wonderful seafood fine dining experience. Lobster was incredibly sweet and flavorful. Sablefish main was tender and the vegetables were of the highest quality.
Went here for my birthday it was really good. I enjoyed steal while my friend has sushi and other seafood. The service was really good. We never ended up trying the dessert but it we got a nice birthday platter with cookies. That was a nice treat.
"It was a perfect experience. When I first stepped into the restaurant, I can feel the supreme hospitality from the staff with warm welcoming smiles. Though it was a rainy Saturday night, having dinner in this place with friends really ease my burdens from work........ thanks, good job, Blue Water Café."
Service
Great food and service. If you’re looking for seafood or steak and a nice drink downtown Vancouver you found your place. Had the sushi for appetizer and was probably some of the best I’ve tried in the city. Servers were very informative and attentive. 5 stars!
One of the best experiences I've had at a restaurant Above and beyond with the service, amazing food, beautiful atmosphere and a serious eye for detail. The little things are what really got me. Highly recommend it ????
We were visiting Vancouver from Toronto and had dinner at Blue Water Cafe on Saturday September 11th (and Sunday September 12th!). We were so impressed by the food, the service and the ambiance. The seafood tasting for 2 is not to be missed, the scallops and sablefish were absolutely delicious. Ingredients are very fresh, beautifully prepared and presented. Our server Tara brought our experience to the next level. She provided excellent service, we felt taken care of from beginning to end, she is very knowledgeable about the menu and she made this experience exceptional for us. It was so special that she was one of the main reasons why we decided to go back the following day for dinner in order to try more items in the menu (including the Sole Meuniere that had sold out on Saturday, that they put on the side for me and was to die for!!! I am from France and I can testify it was excellent Sole Meuniere) Everything is cooked to perfection, very flavourful. We also had desserts on our 2nd dinner and once again they were delicious and using top quality ingredients (valrhona chocolate for the dark chocolate cake!) Saturday was a busy night and you can tell that everybody is synchronized, all the staff is very professional and their system is well thought of which results in guests receiving an impeccable service. Special mention regarding the communication between the staff. On Sunday (2nd dinner) our server Chris already knew we had come the day before and what we had for food and drinks, one more way to make us feel special. There is literally nothing negative to be said about the food and service. Price-wise, this is excellent value for money and totally worth it! Please open in Toronto...and bring Tara!!!!
The halibut special was absolutely delicious. We also ordered a spicy tuna maki roll which was not the greatest I had, but I can't complain about the way it tasted. Service was okay. We were seated outside and the only complaint I had was service was a little slow. We ordered a bottle of wine which was kept far away from the table close to the entrance and had to wait until the server saw we were out to get more. Overall, the atmosphere inside seemed like it would be a great place for a large group. Probably won't be visiting here again since I am from out of town, but it's worth checking out if looking for seafood restaurants in Vancouver.
In my opinion the best restaurant in Vancouver and I've been in over 20 different restaurants of different level in the last couple years. Came here over 5 times and was completely blown away! One of the reasons my wife and I got married here. They provide incredible experience by paying attention to ALL the things that are important in the dining experience: food, service, atmosphere and take them to the next level of quality. There are so many little things that they do and do them very well that other places don't. For me that's what sets them apart. Ben, Stephan and ALL the staff are always great. Totally worth it!
Stellar! Amazing seafood! I had the halibut and it was melt in my mouth delicious. The service is on point and the atmosphere is awesome. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Vancouver!
By far the freshest and the best seafood restaurant in Vancouver.
Top notch restaurant. I travel all over the world and as a "foodie" seek out places like blue water. I get to Vancouver twice a year and always make a point to visit this restaurant. Superb seafood, raw fish / oysters, and cocktails Cool vibe. Service a little slow tonight but worth the wait. The char prep - delicious!
Where do I even begin with this Restaurant? It is the most over rated and over priced place I have ever been too. We made reservations for our anniversary. When we got there the hostess seated us and was very nice. When we sat the waiter came and greeted us. He seemed like he was in a rush the entire time and kept leaving to grab or assist someone while talking. He tried to be funny but came off a little rude with his jokes about how fast we ate... When we were unsure about what we wanted to eat he seemed kind of irritated. But yet he had this whole fake smile the entire time. When we returned one of the drinks we did not like at the end of the dinner he had this whole story about fighting with his managers about trying to get it removed but could not. That is lie any other restaurant would in a heart beat! We both ordered their specials for the day. The food was bland barely had any taste at all, and the oysters and scallops were awful. It was way over priced for the quality of the food. I have been to several other places with top quality food and amazing taste for a lot less. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I am very disappointed we chose this restaurant for our anniversary, as it was the worst restaurant I have ever been too.. Save your money go somewhere else with better tasting food!
The price is worth the experience, the service is amazing, and the food from the oysters to the fresh halibut and lobster. An amazing mixologist set the mood from the start and we could not have asked for a better experience on our last night in Vancouver. A must visit if you are open minded to amazing food.
Always amazing and lively. Great food, incredible service, and atmosphere. Lovely overall. Amazing wine list. Faves are the Short Ribs, Sable fish and prawn cocktail.
For all the hype we were disappointed with the food and the service. The seafood was fresh, the seafood sampler appetizer was very tasty but the mains (halibut special and scallops) left something to be desired. The Thai flavours of the halibut dish were poorly executed and the fish oversalted, the scallops did not pair well with the accompaniments. Waitstaff were pleasant but rather unprofessional.
One of the best meals in town. Extensive wine list. Unbeatable service and food and wine knowledge. My favorite restaurant in Vancouver!
Best scallops. Incredible sushi. Fantastic atmosphere. And not so loud that you can't hear your friends speaking. Highly recommended. The other positive reviews are not hyped up. Well worth the visit.
I found the Blue Water Cafe via Tripadvisor in the UK ahead of our Canada/Whistler trip. This was our final dinner and I wanted to share a memorable experience with our group of ski buddies. Oblivious of the fact that this is a sister restaurant to Whistler’s fantastic Araxi, we had a delicious dinner accompanied by some great wines! Predominantly seafood, Blue Water Cafe has plenty for carnivores too. This place is friendly given its position as one of Vancouver’s best eateries without a pretentious attitude.
We had Hillary as our server and couldn’t have asked for better service we were celebrating our 31st anniversary she made perfect suggestions for our dinner. Food and wine was amazing!!! Will definitely return if every in the area! ????
Suggest Tuna Tartars.
What an incredible experience! Great food and even better service. Special shout out to our server Mark. Friendly, funny, professional. Definitely left an impression. Thank you Mark!!
Excellent friendly service from Leela our server! She recommended the Sablefish which was cooked absolutely perfectly! Will definitely be returning.
We had a company event at Blue Water Cafe and I was very happy with the result. The food was excellent, not only was their menu carefully balanced, they were attentive with people with allergy or being vegetarian. The service was TOP NOTCH and very professional. You couldn’t go wrong with them. Table setting and the restaurant’s ambience were excellent, so we all had a great time. I will definitely go back on my own.
Have to comment on how awesome the food was. Was one of our best meals ever. The whole experience was absolutely made better by the service provided by our waiter, Jordie, who helped make our desisions so much easier and his knowledge, manner and personality absolutely added to make our evening such a wonderful and memerable experience. Thank you to the wonderful chefs and our outstanding waiter Jordie! We highly reccomend this restaurant!!! Thanking all of you again, Gracie and Brian
Some of the best food ever. Menu is quite pricey but worth it for a special anniversary dinner or something.
My favourite place for Oysters and all sorts of seafood. Classy and exceptional.
Very good food, very good services. I definitely feel like they care about our feeling as a customer. I got a dish that was a too salty, and they offered the chance to redo or change the dish, and their manager came and asked about how to improve. Very impressive!
Very tasty food. Pleasant atmosphere
One of those places that the vibe is far better than its food. In all honesty, the food is bare average The execution of the main course showed no balance and one flavor often over powered the rest. The seafood platter uses some of the cheapest ingredient. When we asked for a sommelier to help with the wine...Instead we got a regular waiter with not much knowledge. Avoid.
Never fails to accommodate my spouse's dietary sensitivities. It's rare to come across a place where attention is given to service and great food.
Dinner
Great service, we had a few wishes, all got arranged. Food quality is great, both the sushi and the oysterbar as the other maincourses. Open kitchen, so it is very nice to see how the chef maintains control and harmony over the food, and restaurant.
Dinner
Best Seafood in Vancouver. Love the Raw Bar seats but also nice table seating. The service is solid and the quality of the food is fantastic. It does have its price and advance reservations are recommended.
Great food and service!!
Out of all the great sushi and seafood places in Vancouver, Blue Water has to be amongst the top. The ambiance, the spectacular service and some of the best food you can find in the city are all in one place. Sure, the prices are a little higher than what you would expect but you don't come here very often ;) Whether it be a birthday celebration or a dinner with the girlfriend, Blue Water Cafe has consistently delivered. Their menu features lots of interesting options, from the seafood tower, to the sturgeon and sablefish, it is worth paying for the meal.
Food was indeed excellent, with the menu catering for just about any taste. As travellers, we really did appreciate this great dining establishment, however our only negative was the cost was a little too high for family dining with 3 children. Given the establishment was Full to the rafters with diners, clearly shows how popular it was with locals and tourists alike.
Blue Water Cafe makes the best lobster in Vancouver. You can ask the server to have it poached and cut open for you. You also get free bread with spread and two sweet mini tarts complimentary at the end of your meal. I suggest to dress smart/casual and bring your date here for a lovely romantic dinner :)
I don’t know where to begin but the ambiance, the service, the wine and the OYSTERS were amazing. The gentleman taking care of my fiancé and I that evening was very understanding and recommended some amazing dishes. The oysters were beyond amazing, my mouth is salivating just thinking about them. I ordered the short rib and wasn’t a big fan but I would be back any day to try everything else on the menu! Thanks to the staff and chefs for a wonderful evening!!
Celebrated wife’s birthday. We ordered 2 tier seafood platter. We were speechless. It is simply amazing! So fresh and delicious!
Last night was my first time at Blue Water Cafe after years of hearing about everything that I was missing. I have never been so blown away by a restaurant. Rather than limit ourselves to a single main dish, we explored the menu - sampling as many of the items as we could fit into our stomachs. Each one was better than the last, and the staff was incredibly helpful with suggestions, pairings and conversation. A meal at the Blue Water Cafe is not expensive, it is a worthwhile life investment that pays off with an experience that goes far beyond what appears on the plates.
Good service, were able to seat us when we arrived 45 minutes early. Seafood tower was awesome, but entree was over cooked.
Incredible! The food was delicious, the staff were fantastic and the ambience was perfect. We had the Blue Water Cafe Tower, then I had the salmon and cheesecake special. Can’t recommend this place highly enough!
Wow . Had a staff party here and balled out on some 4 course meal and drinks menu for our large group. Excellent server. The food was hit and miss on some items. Their Arctic char was a bit basic. It wasn't as flavourful as we wanted maybe a dash of butter would do the trick next time. I had a short rib, it was very generously wide cut and presented beautifully vertically. The jus was great on the rib. I did find it needed a pinch more salt . Alcohol selection was basically a candy land . Desserts we're top quality. Overall I would come here again!
The seafood is extensive and delightfully presented. The service can be very good. This is a restaurant where you go to splurge: a special event or a birthday. That said, there are two reasons why I'm giving this place three stars instead of five. 1) Garbage bins This is likely out of Blue Water Cafe's control, but what are all the battle-tank-sized compost and garbage bins doing outside the entrance of the restaurant? Not exactly the most welcoming visual or aroma before getting to the restaurant. 2) Servers who relentlessly upsell This is definitely something Blue Water Cafe could fix. The first time I went, our server was very clear that her main goal was the tips, saying "I'm only working here because the tips are good". Refreshingly honest of her, and she continued to suggest doubles for all drinks ordered that night. The second and last time I went, the beverages server, different from our food server, came around. When I said "a Vodka soda", he responded with, "did you say a double?". He figured that this was an opportunity to squeeze as much as he could from the table. Luckily for us, our food server was pleasant, amazingly attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
Excellent food, pricy but worth it. Sashimi is top quality and absolutely delicious. If you are a seafood lover this restaurant is a must try. My husband and I are always pleased with the experience although on our last visit, service was a little unprofessional. Not as knowledgeable as one may expect for an expensive restaurant, we also had to ask for condiments a few times, empty cocktail glasses for most of the meal, and had to top up our own wine. Usually on point, and not the end of the world but one expects great service for this price tag. I am not sure maybe it was a new server or maybe short staffed but we will still come back for the food and hope that was a one off.
Maybe the best seafood restaurant in Vancouver. Excellent location, and service. Amazing desserts.
We were there for a wedding event. The venue was modern and pretty, and service was very friendly. The seafood tower was very fresh and great in variety. For main, I ordered the tenderloin steak and it was really tender and the star of the dish is the mash potatoes. But my husband ordered a fish and it was only average. For dessert, I ordered the sorbet, banana and mango sorbet was great but the berry one was too sour. Overall it was pretty good and I would go back.
This is one of our favorite seafood restaurants in Vancouver for both business and pleasure. If you're with a group the seafood tower is a great way to start. The aburi sable fish is ridiculously tasty and is a must try if you haven't had it before. If you're a group of 2 you can sit at the bar and watch all the magic happen. Reservations are a must as it does get very busy.
Came for my birthday dinner and was blown away by the fantastic food, atmostphere and service. Our server was so kind, professional and efficient. Loved the sushi - very fresh and many options to choose from. Thanks for making my special day one for the books! <3
A long time friend invited me out for dinner at the Blue Water Café to celebrate a birthday. Neither of us had been but knew of people who had and raved about it. Our expectations were high. I can happily say that all those expectations were exceeded. Our server, who has been working there for eight years was 1st class. He made us feel comfortable never appeared hurried, and took the time to answer all of our questions. For such a large space our experience still felt intimate. The chefs, all in full view, worked seamlessly with the wait staff and also appeared unfazed by the needs of the quickly growing number of customers. To put it simply, the food was sublime. We chose to go with options from the starters menu for our entire meal, and we were not disappointed. By the end of the evening we were just perfectly satisfied with the amount we had eaten: three appetizers each, one of them being the tower for two which was comprised of four different seafood selections. Our waiter chose our wine pairing for us- a glass each was all we needed. We will both be returning in the near future.
We had our daughter's wedding celebration in the Blue Water's Ocean room. It was awesome! Great food, service, and venue. We had ~50 guests and the room accommodated everybody comfortably. The set menu selections for our group was perfect and offered the ideal variety of dishes for our guests. Although, Blue water is acknowledged as a higher end restaurant the value we received from the menu was awesome. Service was stellar and accommodating. Kudos to the management team and service team for their efficiency and professionalism. It was certainly a memorable experience for us all. If you are celebrating an event of similar group size I highly recommend you consider this venue.
We had sushi, oysters and amazing Kobe steaks. There is a very fulsome menu to choose from but Mel B. was amazing and helpful with so many great suggestions. She also was a great server and made a good meal a great one. Can’t wait to come back the next time I’m in town. Mike & Mike
Very average considering the price. The sashimi and roll we had were nothing special. Our waiter gave poor recommendations and neglected to tell us our water was not complimentary; I've never been to a restaurant in North America that charged for water without verifying that was acceptable. There was a trashy escort sitting at the table next to us and a guy at the bar that was slurring and could barely stand up. Definitely not the vibe I prefer when going out for a nice meal. Overall, not a restaurant worth trying for a meal. Their oysters were very good so that made up for the rest of the experience a little.
One of the best seafood restaurants around. On our last visit we planned on starting with sushi prior to entrees however the sushi was so good we ended up just having wine and sushi for the whole evening. Was so good I went back for more three days later.
This is a good place! We want to return!????
Simply divine. Highly recommend the 2 lb tank fresh lobster with 5 grams of truffle and a couple of grilled prawns.
Thanks to the team at Blue Water for putting together a great experience for us. Our business deal didn't work out so well but the food was amazing.
Consistently excellent food and service, smart wine list highlighting local B.C. wines and surprisingly a gem of a Canadian whiskey. Comparing our experience there from six years ago to this week reflected no decline in any of the factors that make for a standout restaurant.
We had the most incredible experience last night! Not only was the food OUTSTANDING and the experience great but the service was some of the best I have ever had. Thank you Blue Water Cafe for making last night so special. And ask for Harvest! Best waitress ever
Wow, just wow. Cocktails, unreal. Food, off the charts. Wait staff, humorous, informed and engaging. Definitely worth the visit. If you can, get a seat at the sushi bar and watch the very best craftspeople create masterpieces with raw ingredients.
Dine in
Ambiance is good. The place is usually packed so reservations is a must. Food selection is good. Sushi rolls tho on the other hand is average. There's a lot of other great sushi/Japanese restaurants you can go that taste better and a lot cheaper too. A good place to go once in a while.
Amazing meal and outstanding service. Worked with my diet restrictions and were very accommodating.
A brilliant melange of flavors and textures.
Everything was great about the place; the service, the food and the environment. Our waitress was very friendly and obviously knew the menu from top and bottom. I had the halibut and it was super fresh and was very light. The crab salad was also very delicious. It was around $155 for 2 people w/o any drinks.
Being treated to dinner on my Birthday - first time for me and had a wonderful meal with first class service and company
Excellent food and service. Creative and entertaining menu and staff for both food and libations. Very high priced - my favourite high end seafood restaurant in Vancouver. A must try even with the high prices.
One of the best sea food resturants in town.
Wonderful dinner experience. Amazing Aburi
Unsurpassed. The hardest part is choosing what to have. Excellent wine selection
Loved this place! Food was great, atmosphere was great, prices were proper for level of cuisine. Seafood towers seemed to be the BIG seller. Area around restaurant in Yaletown is a blast for bars and people watching so plan to hang around after dinner. One thing about Vancouver is that they don’t free pour your drinks! A straight drink is 1 ounce of alcohol and a mixed drink usually has 2 ounces. I found myself ordering a lot of doubles!
Delicious seafood with excellent service here. Try the black cod, amazing!
Can’t add much to what people have already said. It’s a top notch restaurant in the heart of restaurant row. Even on a Thursday night it’s BUSTLING! Service, ambience and food were all amazing. I recently had Sablefish at Coast and Pink Peppercorn and I thought this one trumped them both.
Love this place, must visit in Vancouver! Definitely try the sablefish.
The best seafood restaurant in Vancouver! I love the ambiance, the food and the service!
Great service, good sea food. Sushi is not the best but it's good. Excellent selection of oysters and caviar.
This was one of the best seafood places we have visited so far. Exquisite gourmet food and drinks. Very professional and knowledgeable staff. Sablefish is definitely a must to try. The place was packed on Thursday, so it is very well regarded and recommended. A bit pricey, but well worth it
Everything was really delicious and service was great. It can be pricey so definitely a special occasion kind of dining.
This was my second visit and once again it did not disappoint. The seafood is incredibly fresh, drinks are delicious and the service is excellent. We sat on the patio and it was a perfect summer evening. Will be returning soon again.
Dinner
Food was absolutely delicious and service was exceptional. Good prices when compared with similar tier upper scale restaurants and overall amazing atmosphere. Would return. Didn't get a picture of my main course, but would recommend beef tenderloin or Kobe Style Short Ribs. Really can't go wrong with most things on the menu it seems of course the team I was with had great comments about all of the seafood they ordered. Between a small appetizer and smallest main course portion size was ample. 5 stars!
Dinner
Great food. Best place to have seafood. My wife loves it. So many flavor to try out.
Excellent taste, fabulous service, fantastic ambience and environment. Worth every single dollar!
My taste buds are still tingling from our last visit! The appetizers must be sprinkled with crack because I just craved for more and more. The waitress was prompt and polite. 5 stars!
Went here for my dad’s birthday and we ordered the seafood tower among other things. The waiter was super friendly and we shared a lot of our experiences travelling. I loved their jelly fish dish in the seafood tower.
Food was excellent and prepared and served on time. The atmosphere was welcoming. The staff was attentive, respectful and amiable. I really appreciate their service.
Went here to celebrate three birthdays (on different days but family from out of country was here). I was a little worried as nothing on their menu was labeled GF for being Gluten Free, but our awesome waitress assured me that *almost* everything could be tailored for me which is GREAT, eating out is hard enough as is for me so I felt very welcomed here. And for once I could have GF cheesecake! Awesome service, fantastic food and comfortable environment (those washrooms are something else)
Great atmosphere and fresh seafood. The menu has a big variation. A very popular place. Very good staff. You should book in advance.
Lovely restaurant. Food was wonderful. I recommend the Sable Fish with miso glaze; truly divine. Only one small complaint: our server switched out without introducing her replacement(Not very professional). Otherwise enjoyable evening.
Wow what an elegant restaurant. Stellar service from our wonderful waiter Mark. All recommendations were excellent. Really lovely way to end my birthday:)
Absolute Rockstar is every area, this place has it down! By far one of Vancouver's best places to get top notch service, food and drinks! Just love.
Got a chance to visit this restaurant when I was visiting Vancouver, I must say this place probably one of the best seafood restaurant that I ever taste. The seafood platter is just delightful and fresh, their ceviche is well balanced. I had sabblefish for my entree with some sort brown butter sauce, it's perfectly cooked crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. My meal was finished with a special chocolate dessert special for Valentine's day. That dessert is out of this world. I normally think that chocolate dessert can be too heavy and too sweet, but their dessert is well thought to every single small details. With different textures from mousse, cake, ganache, all combined with the taste that's not too overpowering nor too sweet. Their service is also over the top, he was able to see our needs even before we request something. Hands down to the chef and their whole team!
This place is my favourite seafood restaurant in Vancouver. We celebrated my partners birthday here and it lived up to and exceeded our expectations. Great oysters, delicious ceviche, amazing Sable fish. The service was top notch. I requested a quiet table and we were accomodated as requested. Always a pleasure to dine here. Good quality and quantity of dish and friendly but busy atmosphere. Good for friend, family or couples. Seating arrangement are cosy and flexible for different groups.
A top to bottom amazing experience. Attentive wait staff, great drinks, amazing food! Highlight was the seafood tower, definitely a splurge, but worth it at least once in your lifetime. They were out of dungeness crab, but replaced it with a generous amount of lobster tails in their place at the top of the tower.
As usual William went above and beyond for my associates and I last night. It was their first time dining at your fine establishment, let us just say you guys gained a few more loyal customers. We choose your Cafe because of the great food, but we keep coming back for William's great service. Thank you very much!!!
Blue Water Cafe is one of the most nicest but also priciest restaurants in Vancouver. A dinner for two will cost at least $200, and that's if you do not order a bottle of wine. The food, however, is very tasty and perfect for those who want a great Vancouver seafood experience. A must try for anyone vacationing in Vancouver! Edit- now opened for service after COVID
Service
We celebrated my husband's birthday here and had a wonderful evening! Delicious food and great atmosphere. There were a variety of options on the menu and we would love to try them all!
Been to this restaurant many time. On Sunday my fries was too salty and asked my server to let chef know. Never heard back from them anymore. Blue Water kitchen is not as consistent as couple of years ago. Kobe sushi was good. Service was good.
Soooo good!!! From the first step in to the last step out, it is all about flavour. The char was perfect but my fav was the seafood tasting... no need to talk about the wine... pictures says it all... Worth every penny.
Delicious food, cozy atmosphere and great service! Highly recommend!!
As is usual of all TopTable Group establishments, Blue Water is - on a consistent basis - an exceptional place to enjoy a meal. Food prepared with the utmost care, fresh and flavorful, make this spot one of my all time favorites for seafood in all of Vancouver. Highly recommended.
I waited until the end of my trip to review this restaurant. I wanted to compare it to other restaurants on my visit to Vancouver. Blue Water Cafe by far was the worst experience. We were sat a table near the entrance. The restaurant is loud and chaotic. We'd soon learn the chaos extended into the kitchen. We ordered our meals and I must give props to the waitress for catering to any dietary needs and being very friendly. That's where the good ends. While the waiteress was very kind, it simply wasn't enough to save this tragic meal. Our entrees would arrive over 1+ hours after being ordered. We didn't order anything complicated. A roll and a pork loin. We were told the reason for the massive delay was because there was a large party that had ordered the tasting menu. I failed to see how that was our problem and why my table of two had to suffer the consequences of that. The food itself was bland and unispiring. For a place with such great reviews I was surprised. The carpacio was flavorless and the pork loin had an odd, almost spoiled-funky taste to it. I'm thankful I didn't get sick. We ate quickly mostly because we had been starved waiting for our food. Not enjoyable. The manger scrambled to make things right and it was appreciated. He comp'd our entrees and gave us a parting gift. That's kind but the night had already been ruined. Was this the best that Vancouver had to offer? Thankfully, we had two other amazing meals. One at Cactus Club Cafe (the one by thethe har with an amazing view) and an equally amazing meal at The Keg in Yaletown. Impeccable service at both compared to the terrible one at Blue Water Cafe. Try those before considering this place.
Always outstanding food and service. A great vibe! My favorite restaurant in Vancouver.
The food, the service, the atmosphere was spectacular!! I had the Kobe short ribs.. it melts in you mouth. A visit to Blue Water Cafe is an experience you deserve!!
Went there for my husband's birthday... Impressive wine selection Good enough service Good enough food Fishy smell upon entering the restaurant because of all the seafood? The cooks there have good technique but the menu is kinda boring, the only thing I remembered was the sablefish was super fresh and cooked perfectly. However, that smell alone is bad enough for me to never return.
The best seafood I have ever tried in my life. I know how strong of a statement this is and I wouldn't dare to say it if it wasn't true. Top notch service, food is delightful and beautiful impecable environment. A great experience that I can't wait to repeat next time I'm in town. Pricey but you are paying it's worth.
The most amazing staff and the most amazing seafood. They went above and beyond and personalized my experience. They make these amazing Rockefeller Oysters. All was delicious! A must visit in the city.
The sablefish was absolutely incredible. One of the best seafood dishes I’ve ever had in my life. Everything else was also good, but the sablefish definitely stands above the rest.
Blue Water Cafe… the dining experience was amazing. The restaurant is full of hard working people who are so busy making sure you have a great dining experience! They want you to leave the place feeling content with wonderful abs positive experience. The ambience brings relaxation regardless of the busy workers walking around. They designed the restaurant very well. They know how to cook their food. They all were cooked perfectly as desired and melted in my mouth!! On the other note, I am deaf and use Cardzilla app to communicate, they did not blink, quick to pick up the communication strategy and made sure I know what comes in the dish and description of each dish! I forgot I was Deaf that night! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!
The food and service was fantastic. All seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection Go early as the wine list might take about 30 minutes to get through! We had a bit of fun watching the wait staff pour wine out of ridiculous shaped decanters Place was busy, kitchen is open, and there is also a few food bar where you can watch Sashimi being made, Oysters being shucked and other dishes made to order. Prices a bit on the steep side, but all dishes we saw and ate were well presented and tasted fantastic. We had Scallops and Crab to start followed by Char and Lingfish, finished with 2 deserts and coffee.
Service
Truly some of the best food and service in Vancouver although, twice now, I've had a reservation cancelled because they later booked out the space. General response was "sorry, we can't do anything about it other than reschedule you". Didn't exactly make me feel valued. This is a place I used to take our out of town guests but I am now reluctant to do so.
Absolutely love this place! The food is always great and portions are huge and very reasonably priced. Service is of top notch quality. Always friendly and courteous!
Pretty spectacular. All seafood is wonderfully fresh and sushi is just perfect.
Good food, fast & friendly service. Overall a good experience.
What a masterpiece! Arrived there like a tourist, without any reservation, and got a sit on the sushi bar in a minute. Great Customer service! From the start till the end have had a fantactic service, began with a simple but perfect lemonade juice. Then immediatly followed with the best of the best of this restaurant : the sablefish (you can see on the picture) with its fresh -asian style- vegetables; an absolutly great course. Finished with their homemade -french style- desert, simple but so sweet… This is so far the best restaurant in Vancouver.
We had very high expectation for this place and booked our Valentine's dinner a month ahead. Overall we think the service from our waiter was friendly but the food and drink are far behind. We had the tasting appetizer for two. The Tuna Tartar was quite salty but it was the only dish that I would rate as 4 star for the night. The scallop tasted bitter, the salmon was too rich/creamy. For main dish, I had the sable fish which I saw from the review it's been on your menu for 16 years. But, this was probably the most disappointing one for me. There was a lot of soup (water) in the plate that has no flavor at all, which damaged the fish flavor. The fish alone has strange sweet mixed with distinct kind for flavor, together with water just make it hard for me to follow. I am not a big fan of the pakchoi cabbage, in China we only stew port or beef with the this kind of vegetable. Overall, this dish makes me feel it is not freshly cooked but more like stored in the fridge and reheated with tap water... My husband had the beef tenderloin, again it has a very strong sweetened flavor which we were not into that much. When beef is so sweet you don't feel the original flavor of the meat. The worst part is the cocktail. I do not remember the name of the drinks. But the one my husband had tastes like half lemonade mixed with half tap water - the cup looks like so too. And its 16 dollar. Indeed everything we had was disappointment after another one. I think this place kept being rated as top restaurant in town for a reason, however maybe we didn't order the right ones.
Food and staff were excellent!! Cris Royal was wonderful while waiting our table with a cheerful attitude, giving helpful food/wine suggestions. Made an excellent end to an already great vacation day in Vancouver.
To be honest, I'm surprised I have to give a 3. The ambiance and vibe of this restaurant is great. Unfortunately, we were really looking forward to the oysters, sushi and seafood but the dishes were all average, nothing stood out. The oysters were quite small, sushi was standard. Our drinks were good though. Our waiter was also a little too sarcastic, and slow to move plates from the table. It's not an inexpensive restaurant, so we overall just had higher expectations, and Blue Water didn't meet them.
Classic Yaletown experience! Fabulous service, fresh and tasty seafood, first class cocktails. The Financial District is a must enjoy for rye enthusiasts.
Perfect. I am from Calgary and was looking for a Sushi making class as sort of a day date activity. I emailed Blue Water Cafe and they got back to me promptly. They offered the services themselves and I made a reservation. There was no wait, we were shown to our seats and the service was fantastic. The sushi chef was very patient and did an amazing job teaching the basic skills to us at no extra cost. It was greatly appreciated, and I will recommend this to everyone heading into the Vancouver area. It's great the staff went above and beyond my expectations to make our experience in Vancouver that much more enjoyable!
Loved our dinner at Blue Water Cafe. The food was excellent, and our waitress Jennifer was extremely friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place.
Fantastic. We went for my girlfriend's birthday, the food was exceptional. We had the oysters, the tiered app, sablefish and the special...all amazing. The service was top notch and they treated us so well. And dessert was great too! A must go to if you are in Vancouver!
Some of the best service I have ever had. The seafood was some of the best prepared and freshest I have had. I grew up on the ocean and this was in the top 3 seafood places I have been.
We held our company Christmas dinner at the Blue Water Cafe on December 12. The wait staff were incredible - attentive, quick and professional. The food was amazing. They were easily able to accommodate my request for a vegan option and provide a delicious, well put together meal. Thank you Blue Water for a great experience.
We went to blue water cafe for our anniversary. The atmosphere was very nice, the food was enjoyable, the drinks were classic, the server was very friendly with sense of humour. …
Every time we visit Vancouver, we make it a priority to come here for dinner on our last night. The meal and experience is excellent every time. On our recent visit, we ordered cocktails, seafood tasting for two, oysters, sablefish, and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was phenomenal, but the sablefish was impeccable - the best fish we’ve ever tasted. It was cooked beautifully. In the past, we’ve ordered the scallops and those are magnificent as well. I’m addition to the food, the service is professional and kind - we’re always well taken care of. I rarely give out five stars but this place never fails to impress us.
There are 2 things that stand out in this place, our server Sheena and the food. We both had a char and it was divine. I would suggest training the guy who checked on our service dog letter because im not sure if he really knows what he should be looking for. This was the only establishment that gave us pause and asked us for another letter which was really not necessary. I enjoyed our dinner experience and I would recommend this place. However, im not sure if I will be a return customer. Its just one of those places that I want to put a check mark against.
We have visited this place several times and the food there never disappointed us. Great food and dessert , staffs are very professional and friendly . I would strongly recommend this place. They are usually very busy and reservations in advance may save your time for waiting .
Wonderful restaurant! We had a mix of menu items and loved all of it. Our server Lela and the crew working the sushi bar were perfect. Will definitely be coming back next time we are down here.
Had an amazing dinner here. They serve really fresh seafood. The food is pricy but I would say it’s worth it!
The Entire experience is always second to none. The moment you walk in the door and you’re greeted by Roxanne, all the way through the evening where the servers treat you like a millionnaire and Calan always delivers the exact one I’m looking for. Thank you to the entire staff for always making my guests and I feel special. Randy
Best food in all of Vancouver!!! Absolute must go. Nice and fancy, I believe it's by reservation only. Their wine list is top, highly curated, you can't go wrong here. They even have a coravin selection of wine they can pour (pump). Food is delicious and equally a piece of art. The chefs know what they are doing. They have a selection from their live tank, they have a selection of fresh oysters, appetisers, main dish, sushi bar and dessert
Meal type
Great spot for dinner. We had a group of 8 and are out on the patio. We ate mostly sushi along with the Sablefish. Everything was fresh and overall great seafood. Also our waitress was fantastic and had great service. Highly Reccommend.
Blue Water Cafe was an exceptional experience. You are greeted by a beautiful interior, friendly staff and a swanky vibe. Food was outstanding. I started off with the crab and shrimp dish... beautifully and artfully presented and so many complex flavors that went well together. The sablefish entree was light and delicate in flavor with highlighted the incredible flavor and texture of the fish. Nothing was overly salty. Impeccably crafted cocktail. Whenever I’m back in Vancouver, i will return here!!
Sat at the sushi bar and was handled by the master, Masa-San. Fish and sushi quality was exquisite, service was fantastic, the chef is authentic and a skilled master. Will definitely be back.
We went to this restaurant on a recommendation from a friend. The place is very classy and the staff is incredibly professional. The food was spectacular!! I had the Flat iron Steak and it was amazingly done. It's an expensive restaurant but definitely worth it. If you are going to Yaletown check it out.
Excellent staff, menu, presentation and flavour explosions! We loved the experience.
A "Top Ranked" Seafood restaurant. This highly ranked (by travellers and "self styled gourmets"), fine dining restaurant features an excellent and varied menu. The food preparation, and presentation is "top notch"... as is the quality and professionalism of the servers. Some dishes reflect a "Japanese touch". The Raw Bar" is also wonderful! For those who prefer "meat"... there are also several offerings.. and, like the seafood and fish dishes the kitchen demonstrates that they know how to prepare and present such dishes! You will not be disappointed by a visit (and repeat visits). I hope that this Review has been helpful.
I have been coming to Blue Water for over 6 years... never once had a bad experience with the service, or food. Everything is always great. Love the atmosphere! Sushi bar is the best place to sit!
We had the most amazing time in Blue Water Cafe, our server was impeccably mannered and attentive, the wine room where we were seated was classy and the food the most delicious. Thank you for making our dining experience so special.
We only had drinks there so my review only refers to the bar area. The bartenders are extremely talented. Their specialty drinks are an absolute must try. The decor and ambiance are classy so put on your best and have fun.
West coat oyster had a couple of each amazing. The staff took some time to warm up to us as we are non drinkers and I think the expectation is to order a bottle of wine or 2. All the food was perfect. Tuna and sable fish main courses are both winners
Really enjoyed this place. 10/10 food & service. You will not be disappointed!
Personally I like to sit at the sushi bar. My friend and I love to watch the sushi chef do his amazing magic. The service was efficient and friendly. The food is awesome. They have a delightful wine list and an excellent full bar. This place is perfect for your special someone and you to enjoy fruits of the sea.
Started off with the seared sablefish and a seafood platter. Both were pretty good, and I was surprised that the jellyfish in the platter also had some shark fin mixed in. The mains were forgettable though, and overall made the experience quite disappointing. Service was also very slow, from sitting down to getting our mains it took 2 hours.
OMG. The seafood is to die for! This place is not cheap but awesome for special occasions. We went for my birthday and I had the scallops and I still think about them monts later. They were that good. Also a great wine and dessert selection and ambiance.
Fantastic experience, one of the few places I've done that gets "fusion" right--they have sushi and western seafood dishes but keep them separated, the sushi is good sushi and it's mostly traditional as are the western dishes. Wine list is very good, our server was fantastic. Place was jumping as you would expect for offering such a good experience
Excellent meal. Seafood was fresh and well prepared. We had 2 children (1.5yrs and 4yrs), and the restaurant very nicely helped us customise a meal for them, which they LOVED. The adults all enjoyed our food too. Get their whole fish (ours was the seabass) and oysters.
Great seafood dishes, old school bartending, smart service - what more could a restaurant patron ask for? Plan on $100 a head to fully enjoy the experience. Worth it...
Amazing food and really great wait staff. We got the sablefish and the short ribs for dinner here and they were both delicious. They also have an impressive wine list which ensured we had the perfect wine for our meal. Great experience!
We came here on a special dining event. They were serving adventurous food that they don't normally put on the menu. You can tell the chef experimented a lot with that menu because there were a lot of texture and flavour that you normally would not find together. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
Oysters are fresh, soft and creamy. We have seafood tasting for two. Worth every penny we spent especially the salmon, it melts in our mouth. Heaven.
Phenomenal fresh seafood prepared with care and expertise. Both the cooking and the serving staff are professionals who know their stuff! Everything we had was delicious and the server gave great recommendations. I see us going back there on our next Vancouver visit for sure!
This place is awesome! Quality food, staff and I overall ambiance.
Lovely dining experience to celebrate the hubby's birthday. It was definitely a splurge dinner but worth it. We started off with the two-tiered seafood tower and shared the arctic char. Great cocktails and friendly service. We were seated in the back room (with all the wines) and the intimate setting was the perfect atmosphere for a special celebration.
I came here for New Years Eve. Service was excellent! Ordered a glass of champagne, a dozen kusshi oysters, jumbo prawns, the Dover sole, and the special for dessert. Champagne was excellent. The lobster bisque had good flavours, if not a bit too salty. Kusshi oysters were good. Jumbo prawns were all right. The dover sole was amazing! Overall, I has a very good experience.
We had a party of 7 and the food along with the service was excellent. Only one thing - you don't serve chocolate mousse with pistachio creme brule. Our waiter was Chris and he is awesome. Attentive, fast, very understanding, and pleasant. Best service I've ever had in any restaurant not named Hy's.
I have eaten here several times and the food always blows my mind. Incredibly well thought out, beautifully presented and perfectly served. The wine list is sensational, our Somm, Caleb was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
An absolutely perfect meal experience last night. Blue Water Cafe has everything going for it. The Spirits list is incredible.
Fantastic food!! The seafood is superb! So fresh and delicious. The sushi rolls are top notch too. Worth going there to celebrate your special occasions - it is worth spending money on something nice once in a while!
Every city has a restaurant that defines its category. In Vancouver, the signature seafood restaurant is Blue Water. We come all the way from Tucson, Arizona, to visit friends every summer, and we always dine at Blue Water. We are always delighted. Mon Cherie had scallops (6 to a plate), which she pronounced excellent. My friend, who is determined to try every entree on the menu, got sturgeon, which she though was good. I had the cod, which is basically the vehicle for the garnish, which makes the dish. The cod came with chorizo (Mexican sausage) and a wonderful Mediterranean melange of vegetables. It was quite yummy. The waitress was attentive and cheerful -- every time we asked for something she thanked us! The ambience was superb -- white table clothes and a quiet setting where you could year your conversation without effort. It was worth the six-hour flight to come here for dinner.
The meal lived up to our high expectations. Nothing surprising there. As a new parent, I was interested to see how they dealt with our 3 month old baby. (She's quite well-behaved and sleeps best in crowded restaurants, so we often bring her along.) We had a stroller with us, which the restaurant accommodated nicely. There's a side door for strollers so don't try to fit through the revolving door like we did. I was surprised to see a few other babies there, given that it was dinner and a fairly fancy restaurant. The washroom was not baby friendly at all. There wasn't anywhere to change the baby and in my quick perusal I couldn't find a bin for the diaper by the sink, just a receptacle for used towels. I was also told afterwards there were heated toilets with fancy features like in Japan, so I guess I'll have to check that out next time. Standout part of the meal was the ice cream that accompanied my bread pudding dessert. Biggest downside to the experience was being seated at the table near the bar, where people were standing in loud clumps and it felt like they were looking over my shoulder while I ate.
We had an extraordinary dinner last night! Our server Jennifer was very helpful, friendly and made some excellent suggestions. We enjoyed the seafood sampler which was outstanding. Then enjoyed the Artic Char and the Halibut feature. So fresh and such incredible flavours. We highly recommend this restaurant and will go back !
This restaurant is the most famous seafood restaurant in Vancouver. That’s why you should make the reservation in advance. We ordered the seafood tower and a crab. Staffs are so friendly and kind. Seafood is very fresh.
The food is amazing, the service is impeccable, highly recommend!
My girlfriend and I loved dining here! It's well lit unlike other higher end restaurants. We enjoyed all the seafood selections...will definitely return.
Foods, desserts, drinks, vibe & ambiance, staffs and location are all great. Highly Recommend!
Attended a birthday dinner at the Cafe. Their private dining room is very inviting! The food was absolutely amazing, service was professional. I cannot wait to visit again!
Dinner
We enjoyed our meal there very much. The server was great, the atmosphere was relaxed and the food was outstanding.
Fantastic food. Must try their sable fish. AMAZING
Went to Bluewater as it came highly by my cousin who lives locally. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday and she was not disappointed! Service, food and great Okanagan valley wine! Not an inexpensive restaurant, but worth every dollar. Highly recommend
Was in Vancouver for 4 days and came here for 2 of them. Our server, Chris, made our dining experience so wonderful that we had to come back the next day. We tried a few of his recommendations for wine & food (Kobe ribs, sable fish, seafood tower) and I honestly never thought I was missing anything in life until the moment the tenderness of the Kobe beef & savouryness of the sablefish hit my palette. I’m still drooling just thinking about it. I look forward to my next visit and hope to have Chris again as our server.
Superb service, wonderful ambience and excellent culinary delight!
I love the ambience of this place! Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the dishes were impeccable. I recommend this as a MUST visit for any sea food fan who comes to Vancouver.
Service
I really didn't mind this place, the food is incredible, as well as the bathrooms were ok. It was a little cold indoors, really was not the best. The waitress is great also. I will certainly think about returning again if I ever land the opportunity. Me and my pal purchased the salad and we were not let down. My one pointer is to keep the cold outside. Thank you!
I had wonderful time there. the fresh oysters tasted so good. and the salad was like a art work. I like it.
Absolutely loved the place. Food and services are amazing.
Blue water is one of my favourite spots in Vancouver. I love sitting at the sushi bar with my partner drinking amazing drinks, viewing the sushi chefs making magic and enjoying the magic once it’s made ????. Here are some photos from the last blue water experience. Enjoy
Great ambiance good food good wine. Prawns , crab and Wagyu excellent. Goat cheese also very good. Mixed ceviche nice, the others less so. Sushi mediocre at best. Service flawless. BC pinots a revelation and good value too. Over all a great experience.
The seafood here is amazing and very fresh. We ordered a seafood tower to share for the table and it was very delicious. The price is a big on the higher side but this is considered a fine dining restaurant. We loved the ambience but the service was a bit hit and miss. They kept saying they'll bring us bread but we never got it in the end. It does get busy even on a week night, so reservations are recommended!
Great food and great service. The sablefish was really well done.
A great atmosphere, perfect service with even better food. I had the lobster bisque, mixed ceviche and the scallops. AMAZING! A place for a romantic meal or casual visit for good seafood. Certainly a recommend while in Vancouver. Am contemplating a second visit whilst in Vancouver for four days
Nice ambiance, food was great.
