To this day the business gets a rating of 4.3 out of 5 and that score is based on 127 reviews.
As you can see the average of ratings that it reaches is really positive, and it's based on a very high number of feddbacks, so we may say that the valuation is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they are happy, it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to write feddbacks when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Restaurant is classified in the category of Seafood restaurant.
Great service. Good food. Nice views. Need a better beer selection (had no stouts).
Our host Nate was excellent throughout the evening and night, as was the rest of the staff. The whole team helped in creating a great evening out, and had to be mentioned first because their work is greatly appreciated. All the food was of excellent quality and freshness, and the cocktails and drinks always hit the spot. I enjoyed the Peruvian touches to many dishes. As mentioned, the staff always were accommodating, available, and were knowledgable and also passionate about the crafts offered. The bright airy dining room complemented the waterfront location and maintained a light aesthetic even during our stormy Vancouver evenings. There are a multitude of seafood restaurants that we are blessed to have. Location, enough uniqueness with one foot on West coast familiarity in already excellent food, and a dedicated staff make Ancora an easy choice for a quick escape, even if for a few hours.
Very interesting mix of cuisine. Japanese/Peruvian/West coast seafood. They have fantasized ceviche that is delicious. All of the fish is fantastically fresh as well.
Way too expensive. Tourists style scam.
Fantastic cocktails and seafood.
Went there for my work's Christmas party so we got a group menu versus the regular menu. All the food that we got was great. My favourites are the Shrimp and the tiramisu. The service was excellent. We would definitely come back but only for special occasions.
They’re good, not very Peruvian but the food is good
Although spacious and with good service with decent Covid spacing, overall, the food was mediocre although unique, and appears to attract pretentious guests, which is not a vibe I prefer to dine at. At a visit in Nov 2020, several aspects …
Gorgeous restaurant one of the most beautiful in the city. The food is excellent but the menu is super confused. It's barely Peruvian. It's semi Japanese, But mainly Italian and continental. The menu is semi interesting. It's not very creative or avant garde, but its a great spot for a staff party or a hot date.
I went to a lot of restaurants while I was in town and this was the most expensive but it also had one of the best dishes I've had in Van. This restaurant has fused 2 of my favorite cuisines - Japanese and Peruvian. Ive been to both countries and really enjoyed the dishes there. This place actually reminds of one of my favorite restaurants in Lima... Maido! The food is undeniably excellent but the portions are just really small for the price. Having said that, you expect superb service across the board from a place like this but I was turned off by the service when we walked in. We just stood there trying to make eye contact with people who work there while they tried their best to avoid doing so. Thats when I turn the attitude meter back at them and make it clear that paying customers deserve their attention. My advise, drop the attitude especially the gays and the girls who work there. That belongs to the club not in your place of work where part of what customers pay (in this case most of what we pay for) is service. Thank God the service got better when we got seated but first impressions always last so they should do better on that next time. If you have a fat wallet and critical taste buds then this is the place to go. If you are a foodie on a budget, this place will not give you the best value. Im glad I tried it and I may even considering coming back.
Worst experience….Yuck good i ever had …they should really change chef !
Fantastic food, interesting combinations.
Love the location especially the amazing patio. However for the price, I expect more from their food and especially their cocktails. As a modern Chilean restaurant, I expected an amazing pisco sour but it was just okay. I would recommend going for the patio but I hope they improve their bar service, to the level of a L'Abattoir.
Expert wine advice from somm Barret and impeccable service from front of house. Lobster bisque was memorable
First of all the location offers some of the best views in the city overlooking the seawall and the water. The Peruvian flavors expressed by chef Ricardo are mind blowing. The best cevice I've ever had! You also have to try some of the sushi done by the master himself. The wine selection is also one of the best in the city. Don't hesitate yo ask advice to the friendly and professional staff, they really know what they're talking about!
Had an amazing Dine Out tasting menu dinner. The food was inventive, I especially liked the crudo take on ceviche. Service was excellent - perfect balance of friendly and professional, great knowledge about wine. I look forward to returning!
Great summer patio. Seafood is very good. Service is impeccable.
Fresh seafood, good service.
Beautiful space, relaxing atmosphere . The food is great as well especially the sablefish , the drinks are a bit overpriced . Overall I give this restaurant 5 stars!
Excellent service, excellent food, excellent Athmosphere with very friendly staff team specially Aliga .definitely recommend
Our all time favorite restaurant. Always perfectly prepared and well balanced food. Great indoor and outdoor atmosphere with water view. Excellent service from polite staff. All at a reasonable price compared to other fine dine in Downtown.
Amazing food and amazing decor. This was the fist time we were there. You have to try the steak dinner, it was one of the best steaks I have had. The service was really good, but it seemed like our server did know now a lot about the menu or had just finished his training. I'm sure he will be a excellent server in a few weeks.
Nicely presented dishes. Fresh seafood appetizers and very unique paella. Enjoyed the lunch experience and the amazing view of the water.
Great for a group, a great array of seafood choices, thoughtfully conceived, carefully prepared and lovely to behold. Octopus and whole grilled dorada were highlights amid a panoply of fantastic dishes.
My husband's loves this place
Came here as we heard good reviews and it did not disappoint. Place is a little fancier and price point is on the high side but matches the quality and presentation of food. The Black Cod and Sashimi Pizza was excellent and service was good. Decor is a little old fashion but the water views makes up for it.
Fabulous Dine Out Vancouver experience. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and unhurried despite the restaurant being super busy. They did not cram in extra tables like some places have done, which made the evening comfortable and not too noisy. The view is awesome.
great ambience & service. fantastic menu
Very inventive menu
Steve the general manager is one of the most customer oriental people i’ve ever met. Polite, Courteous, friendly and exceptionally kind. The customer service at this Ancora is 10 out of 10.. The food which is a japanese Peruvian fusion. The most popular lunch dish is the Acevichado Roll and Ceviche Mixto. My server Ashley was so polite , friendly and helped us choose the best dishes
Spectacular all the way around. Fantastic cocktails. Their pisco sour is phenomenal. The food was exceptional from the beginning to the end. Very romantic and lovely restaurant.
Had an amazing wedding anniversary dinner here. Everything was perfect, even the vegetarian options.
Simply the best restaurant that we had the pleasure of dining at! With a perfect table giving us an amazing view of False Creek on the patio, we were treated to an unforgettable dining experience. We are so glad we tried the appetizer platter for 2 - oysters, shrimp, salmon, ceviche...on and on. Our entrees were perfectly presented and incredibly tasty, service was impeccable...absolutely everything was perfection from start to end!
Excellent server. Food is yummy.
This accolade is long overdue. Came to this fine establishment a while back and the food was just divine! Presentation is on point, the ambiance was second to none with the view, service was very attentive, and flavors of everything wow - they made me want to do a musical number on the spot! Everyone at the table was super impressed. For all this, you do pay for it but I think it is quite fair. Fantastic place for an occasion or just treat yourself! I’d go eeeeat there again!
Excellent food. When we think about celebrations, Ancora is always our first option and it never disappoints. Service has always been delightful and very professional.
Best patio ! Great happy hour food and drinks Friendly service
Excellent service. The Ancora glacier was fresh and interesting. The server was a bit brisk in describing it so we kind of had to guess what was what for some of the items. The corn was a nice little touch. Our tenderloin was cooked to perfection and the side dishes were quite substantial (probably a bit too much for fewer than three people). Dessert of Lucuma ice cream also hit the spot. Overall the ambience of the restaurant allowed for easy conversation. Looking forward to trying more of the menu in future.
Restaurant was lovely the food was delicious but the value was terrible. Unless the portions increase I wouldn't go back. I had the scallops and it was $41 for three with three balls of Apple smaller than the size of a cherry and some sauce. It's was an insult to receive a portion like this. I also had the octopus appetizer which was actually a larger portion. Delicious but also too small. We had the uni nigiri and it was fresh and satisfactory. We also ordered the seafood tower for four people $145 the seafood was fresh and delicious but again terrible value. Basically if you are hungry don't go here or eat before you go which negates the point of eating out.
Came here for dine out. Food was amazing. Delicious through all three courses. Service was fantastic and ambience was pretty good. The fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisines is unique, which says a lot for any place in Vancouver. The parking nearby is reasonably priced (Street parking) and they have decently priced valet. All in all, a great restaurant and I will definitely come back
Stand outside for 10 minutes with no hostess, then call their phone number twice only for no one to pick up. Finally had a hostess come out ready to do their job only to find out they don’t take reservations. Really? Customer service 0/10, there are much better patios with 10x better service all over the seawall.
Totally awesome experience
Celebrated my Birthday at Ancora this year. And they did a great job making it memorable one. Excellent service along with amazing food. Definitely would recommend.
Amazing!!! I love their seafood towers. Fried crab taco is delicious with the ikura. You have to try the octopus -well charred and beautifully plated. Flan for dessert was amazing and so were the mochi texture donuts. Can't wait to return!
Great Trout Ceviche
Used to be C restaurant but now it's Ancora. Surprisingly well executed food for the dineout menu. Parking in this area always an issue so find a meter to park. Valet is $$ ~12.95. Servers are friendly.
Went for Dine our 2019. The food was “good” but I was expecting something more “wow” as it does pride itself for being a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant.
Seafood is on point! Perfection. Thank you for your service and delicious food
Excellent service, atmosphere and food! Unique Peruvian-Japanese fusion. There is also a waterfront view. Came for dine out and the food did not disappoint. However the short ribs add-on was unimpressive. Boring taste and not very tender. Small portion, but I wouldve been fine with that if it was exceptionally tasty. Definitely not worth the $19 add-on price. Everything else was tasted great.
Such a beautiful patio! Friendly servers and yummy appies!
Awful experience with the restaurant. If you use their website (as directed for group booking) make sure you follow up quickly as they do not check their emails. I'm now left with an 'I'm sorry, there is no room' 1 week before the dinner. Even though I began the process 3 weeks before desired date and time, and emailed twice.
Awesome food and drinks and you cannot beat the view being right on top of the water.
Had a very rude server and wanted to kick us out after 2 hours. Didnt get to really enjoy the food becuase of him
As a life-long Vancouverite, and with many Vancouverites who would likely agree, we can happily claim there is no shortage of excellent fine dining restaurants in our city. Yet Ancora stands out as yet another unique and delicious jewel. Stunning atmosphere and view. The food was so rich and flavourful and the Peruvian-Japanese dishes were so rich and flavourful. The seafood was fresh, the drinks were delightful, and the service was excellent! We had a delightful server from Italy with whom we talked casually about her home country, and how its one of our favourites to visit. Kudos to the team at Ancora - you have something special going on. I will be back in a heartbeat.
The restaurant on the north shore of False Creek has been challenged through the past months of restrictions on indoor and even outdoor dining. A friend and I had an excellent dinner experience on Tuesday -sitting outside on the patio. The menu offering is creatively interesting: the best of Japanese-influenced Peruvian cuisine. The service was polished, efficient and friendly, plus the wine offering fairly significant. I've been going to this restaurant for 6+ years, and it continues to rate amongst my favourite in Vancouver downtown. Reservations essential - and time your reservation prior to sunset -as there's a big open outlook onto the evening sunsets over English Bay.
Food, atmosphere and service are consistent and good. Lost a star for for small portion, it is a high end restaurant but expect not to be full after eating some appies, main and dessert. It would be better choice to go there just for snacks and drinks.
They will cater to vegans even though it is a seafood place.
Gorgeous view! The Dungeness crab causas was amazing but the tempura shrimp sushi roll was pretty basic. For the main, we got the cauliflower steak and saberfish. The saberfish itself was great but the sauce did not complement the fish, and was overall a bit too overbearing. I was, however, very impressed with the cauliflower as it was beyond what I expected. They managed to make cauliflower not taste like cauliflower. The brussel sprouts side was also extremely delicious. Definitely worth a visit!
It’s not often you see a fusion between Peruvian and Japanese food. This combo definitely adds some unique flavors to some classic Japanese dishes like their take on the black cod. Combining Uni with Avocado in a taco was a great idea! The atmosphere is great, with a location by the by the water facing Granville island. I couldn’t give it a full 5 stars though as the service was a bit lacking. Our waitress just didn’t come across as being very friendly or welcoming.
Cool place, good stuff, tasty food.
You can taste the attention to detail they put into their food. They care and it shows.
Beaut experience but I'm still hungry

Excellent view and sun set place. Delicious food and atmosphere
While the food and decor was beautiful, and the service attentive, we found a hair in our food. When brought to the attention of our server, the dish was promptly removed and a replacement offered, but we had lost our appetite. There was no apology from the manager, and while the item was not on the final bill, I felt as if the incident was not taken that seriously. For a restaurant of this caliber, it was disappointing.
At $60, the tasting menu is very good value. The food was well prepared and had creative flavors to remember. Perhaps a bit fancier than I would like, but that might be perfect for a date or business lunch / dinner.
Super expensive, food not very good. I won't go back.
Excellent food and service.
Beautiful location and interiors, fantastic food!
Visited for brunch. Good quality, tasted great. Wife enjoyed too. Will visit for dinner menu in the future.
Really a beautiful place with great ambiance and food. Service was great. Exceeded my expectations.
Amazing food, great location!
Foods eh
ordered the uni, bitter taste. the taste of the dishes is under my expectation and the price value
Everything was perfect!
What a patio!! The food was incredible, I tried the grilled octopus and the acevichado sushi; finishing it off with picarones for dessert. 10000% recommended
Immensely impressed and grateful for the staff who graciously accommodated my bizarre and unfortunate dietary requirements. It's hard for me to eat in restaurants anymore but sushi/seafood is my best bet and Ancora is great for an upscale dining experience.
We hosted a private even at Ancora last night and we were blown away by the service, the food and the ambiance. It was my first time at this location (the West Van one is 5* too). You have to try the black cod (not pictured as I was too busy eating it!!).
I enjoyed their patio-nice ambiance and great view. Ancora glacier(seafood tower) was good too. Their cocktail, however, was disappointing.
Food taste good here but they try to hard to impress with using high end ingredients not very creative going into dishes using uni, caviar, and lobster.
Lovely food. Service was slow. One meal came when the rest of us had nearly finished ours. Seemed to be a bit haphazard service.
This place was an amazing experience with incredible food. We were initially upset because we were told we would have to wait 20-30 minutes for a patio table despite having made a reservation almost a month in advance, however after expressing our frustration to the hostess they were able to quickly prepare a lovely table and treated us to a couple free glasses of prosecco which was a nice touch. From then on everything was amazing. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, the food was unbelievable, at one point the manager even came over to speak with us and apologize for the misunderstanding regarding our reservation. Highly highly recommend this place - Get the shrimp and lobster risotto!
Very expensive water front restaurant. They have an extensive wine list but most of them cost upward of high teens a glass. There was one wine with forty dollar plus per glass! We didn't have a reservation and they could only seat us at the bar at 6 pm (it was on friday). The food menu was too pricy so we just had trek glasses of wine and a tapa to share and b it was still over $50.
Excellent food service great. Price on the menu super confusing!!! We ordered the roasted vege dish $19 with added sable dish ($21 indicates on menu). Turns out it was 19+21 extra $40 a dish for lunch! Price is absolutely confusing and ridiculous from this menu because everything else is $14-28 on the menu. If they indicated +21 or swapped the 19 and 21 then it would make se se. Could have orders two other dishes for the same price. Just be very careful when you read their menu and ask questions.
Service was slow. Not enough servers. Food was mixed . My 3 course was excellent. Tuna, trout and matcha strawberry dessert. Yummy.
Amazing food & caring staff
A delightful outside dining spot. Came for a couple small bites & a drink. Will definitely be back. ????????
Great food and drinks, the smoky old fashioned
expensive bUt good fancy food and atmosphere
Peruvian-Japanese fusion cuisine. The halibut ceviche and the prawn scallop tiradito were excellent.
Good food, very good service.
Wonderful service, great view, good food, cool cocktails. Pleasant environment. Lovely.
A little slow for my liking but love the menu.
Came for a business lunch and will definitely be back. Food and service were excellent. Bit pricey but on a sunny day the view will make it worth it.
Great view, great food and nice staff!
Great spicy tuna, wonderful IPA, friendly service and perfect location by the water. A must see while in Vancouver. I travel every week throughout North America and this location is a must see for sure.
The patio is the only reason this restaurant gets even 1 star. Food is sub-par (I fully admit my standard of sushi and fresh seafood is high- but reasonably so, this city has some of the best sushi in the world) and the service is mediocre, at best. The waterfront/seawall view is worth a million dollars but the restaurant is a huge disappointment as is the service.
Beautiful place and great food
Food was a amazing. 5star quality on the food alone. There wasnt a single bite we did not enjoy. Patio gets chilly in the evening, so we had to move in. And the group behind us inside was really loud. Management did apologize for the excessive noise but didn't really remedy or make up for the situation. Will definitely be back for the food and hoping to up this review to 5 start with a more enjoyable environment.
Hit or miss starters, but an overall pleasant waterside dining experience
Best meal I've ever had, period. Go here.
A little over priced for the quality but still better then most
Dropped in for a few beers and had an incredible chat with the bartender. Truly legendary experience. Hoping to come back to eat next time.
Absolutely sensational dinner. Recommended by our hotel concierge and loved every minute. The staff were extremely attentive. The food was magnificent and the ambience was spectacular. Highly recommended.
Awesome! You have to go just to try the amazing cocktails!
Delicious, creative menu. In Vancouver for 10 days over the holiday season. Ate at Ancora on day 2 - the experience quickly became the benchmark by which all other meals will be measured. In addition to great food, excellent service. A terrific evening and worthy of a repeat visit during our short stay in Vancouver if we can work it out.
Very good food and ambience. Very good service. Need to have better heating on the outdoor patio. Be better prepared.
Came here with my lovely girlfriend in July for a first for us and I treated her to their brunch menu and not only is the view and food amazing but the service was super good also! We had the Sablefish and Duck salad, and both were amazing! We Absolutely love this place. Prices are high but the overall food quality and service and view seriously make this place a gem ???? we will definitely be coming back! Cheers all, stay safe!????
Amazing food lovely patio. Bit pricy but well worth it .
Excellent service and the food is divine. You have to eat here.
Great setting. In a competitive food environment, they managed to be competitive. It's worth a visit.
Amazing patio, great oyster and sushi. Their special dish for crabs were good! We enjoyed it!
Great food with an awesome view!
Everything was amazing!
Decent service, but food was mediocre.
Cam here for dine out. Thought food was okay for the price. Great view though.
All staff are so nice and kind, we could enjoy our lunch time. Nice atmosphere. Food is excellent!
Nice room, knowledgeable service, a fine choice.
My husband and I came here for our anniversary and we were extremely disappointed in the service and food. We had made reservations ahead of time and had mentioned we are celebrating our anniversary. We found out that half of their menu isn't available for they ran out of ingredients (we came in on a Tuesday night). The orders we made were modified for what they did have available and they still charged the same price. My husband and I were craving oysters and that wasn't available. Service wasn't the greatest either as they failed to fill our drinks when it was empty in the middle of dinner. We even asked for a refill and nothing. They didn't make us feel like it was a celebration and that it was just a night out. Not a good place to celebrate a special occasion. Won't be coming back here.

Very nice. Good food nice ambience, would be great in summer with patio.
Went here for Dine Out - had the Tuna Ceviche, Lamb and the King Kong dessert with Oysters and Sake. Great food and service. Classy feel to it!
A great setting on the false creek waterfront with ample social covid spacing results in a safe relaxed dinner. Dishes were very good with fresh interesting ingredients. Sable fish was perfectly cooked, and the lobster and prawn risotto was creamy and bright with a fresh squeeze of lemon taste. The umi tagliatelle was rich creamy and lemony. The smoked prawn chauas was very good although the prawns could have been more smoked. Also the octopus was only okay, as the small diameter legs tend to overcook. Overall a very good dinner at premium prices.
Love the sablefish. Great service. Good view. Nice interior design. But didn’t say good bye as we exited the restaurant as the staff were too busy chatting amongst themselves. Otherwise would of been five star rating.
With a gorgeous atmosphere near the water, Ancora delivered the goods. We experienced great service from a friendly staff in a clean, comfortable environment. The sashimi melted in our mouths and the roasted brussel sprouts provided a wonderful compliment. The cocktails hit the spot as well. A highly recommended dining experience.
Good seafood and nice scenery, even at night. Restaurant interior was also very cosy and elegant
Lovely place with a great view. I love the atmosphere and the food is delicious and truly enjoyable.
It’s not the typical western food, it’s kinda twisted with Japanese and Peruvian. Fresh oysters and good seafood selection. The sauce for the steak is very tasty. Great service.
The decor/ interior is not exactly the most eye catching but boy is the food good! Don’t come near if you want to lose weight lol The Picarones was an absolute winner (they make the lucuma ice cream from scratch too) ????
*edit* after the staff reached out to me, my initial problem was resolved. Yana was incredibly understanding and helpful and completely changed my opinion about this place! made reservations at ancora false creek for valentines day about a month back. After reviewing the set menu, i decided i wasn't that interested and called to cancel the reso. over the phone the staff member confirmed to me that a limited a la carte menu would be available so i decided to go ahead with the reso. Once there ,on the night of valentines day, I found out that the set menu was my only option and at this point it was obviously to late to go somewhere else. overall the food and service was fine but it left a pretty bad taste in my mouth seeing as i spent aprox 280$ for food and drink that i wasn't really very interested in.
Inventive food. Nice atmosphere. Fantastic Service. This is one of the better restaurant experiences I've had in Vancouver.
Spectacular views and prompt service. Very good wine selection and good for groups. Food was decent as well
Great menu and service, the view from our table was also amazing.
In our coastal city that ironically has very few seafood restaurants, Ancora always delivers delicious seafood!
It’s a beautiful patio to relax on sunny days. Food and service are great. Special thx to Tatiana, great server with awesome attitude and pleasant manners. Can’t wait to be back ????????cheers!
Visited Ancora for a dinner and some drinks, Rolewin gave us a great service and a complimentary chocolates as dessert since we didn't have room for a full dessert. The sable fish that I had was phenomenon.
The ambience, views and service are absolutely perfect. I had the Peruvian paella and the flavors were incredible, will be back many more times!
Not the fine dining experience that I’m used to.. sorry. As soon as we sat down for our reservation, it was suggested that we should order all of our food at once “since it will take a long time”. Once we placed our order, my friend had requested bread, which was forgotten. We had the prawn roll to share.. it was sadly not the best sushi I've had in Vancouver. When my main course lobster risotto came, it was delicious, but the portion was so incredibly small that I had to confirm that I hadn’t order the appetizer size.. (there was about one cup of risotto served). There was almost no lobster in the risotto (it totaled to to about a teaspoon worth of lobster).. It was just unimpressive for a seafood dish and unsatisfying in portion size.. Closer to a side order than an entre, and inappropriately priced. The server agreed that the portion was small and had been a recurrent complaint of other diners, but nothing was done beyond that. My friend ordered the sablefish, which was fine, but came with over-salted quinoa that my friend was unhappy with. One positive was the sommelier, who made a special effort to introduce all of our wine options, and make a good recommendation. He was especially friendly and professional, which should be mentioned.
Nice quiet patio to enjoy drinks with friends
The food was good and the ambiance is really nice on the patio. Server was getting a bit too close to the food with his fingers explaining what was what, which made some of our party uncomfortable
The portions were crazy small and it was cold and dim. Been to ancora 2 times before and was excellent value. Maybe it's pandemic times or food shortage, many things missing from menu that was already not much options. Did not feel full after spending $300 for 3, prob won't be back. Kind of sad :(
they had both the dine out menu as well as thr a la carte menu. Great dishes and very nice sour cocktails
Staff was amazing, very personable helpful and knowledgeable.
Super seafood, wonderful wine list, excellent service
Very disappointing dining experience. The food quality is below average for fine dining restaurants and the portions are outrageously small! I am prepared places like this don't like to feed people with plenty of food but still shocked when they brought the grilled octopus salad and causas. Both services and food don't deserve their price. There are better places to go if you want false creek water view. Do not recommend to anyone!!!
Very delicious small plates. On the pricey side for what you get but the flavours are there. For example, one side scallop is $9 and it wasn't a large scallop. Espresso Martinis were SO good. Ceviche was good but again, small portion for $19. Duck salad was my favourite. Niece had the Paella and she said it was good but I didn't try it. If I go back here it will be during Happy Hour so I can try more dishes and save some money.
great food, location and service. i find everyone to be hospitable and trying to make sure that we have an amazing time
The food was amazing and loved the atmosphere. However, our server was trying to rush us out taking every plate away when we were still working on it. Then offered us our bill. It was a weekday night, and there was no line up and there was a lot of empty tables.
Dinner
Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Very clean and modern dining on the water. Service is on point and food is delicious! You can wait by the bar and have a drink while you wait for seating. Best to make reservations as it gets very busy on evenings!
Pretty great date night with my hubby at Ancora. Staff is welcoming, the room is beautiful, the food is superb, and the service top-notch. Try the sushi pizza, you won't regret it.
Nothing short of just fabulous. Everything was perfect
amazing location and view, although the food was really cold. They changed it after we asked nicely though. Great staff!!
Great service! Their sablefish is amazing! Great view, and great overall experience.
The peruvian dishes are good.
We appreciated that the staff could seat us at a table for 2 just 15 minutes before last call for a drink and a few appetizers. The spicy salmon rolls were my favourite, the salmon was so fresh. A very nice ambiance and our server was really nice.
Just wanted a drink with friends right before closing. Service was friendly and extremely accommodating!
Outstanding experience. Great food, atmosphere and location. Staff was excellent and attentive to our group.
Great lunch experience at Ancora. We really appreciated the effort to provide a number of great vegan options for one of our guests, and for the amazing & knowledgeable service from Vladimir!
Loved it.... Food was amazing. Location right on the water was pretty epic too.
Amazing experience!
fantastic service and food
Excellent views, food and service. The ambiance was superb.
Good food but a bit pricey.
I will go bacb
This is a relaxed upscale venue. The location is stunning, especially with the patio opened. The food is hit and miss. The squid potato appetizer looked fantastic on paper. In reality the flavours blended too much and much of its potential was lost. The octopus starter was sitting on a marvelous salad, however the actual octopus meat was overdone to the point of having a stringy cardboard texture. The duck main sounded great, but the rice was swimming in turmeric until no other flavours could be tasted. The star of the meal, for me, was the risotto. Lobster and crab meat were not overpowered. Legumes actually held their own. There was a hint of citrus that was counter balanced by hazelnuts. Absolutely devine.
The view is breathtaking... The food is so well season, one words that comes to mind is flavor... The duck is a must, probably the best I had in a long time. The oyster were fresh and we loved the mignonette which had a twist to it. The season cocktail was a big woaw, the look and the taste. We will definitely be back.
Sushi quality has gone down since Head chef isn’t there anymore. The prawns in the rolls separate from the breading, the fish seems to be less than optimal (maybe not as fresh as there’s a scent), and the cuts of sashimi are not as clean like before. Too much rice and soggy seaweed. I don’t go for the Peruvian, only the sushi. Guess Ill have to find a new spot. Also, I notice that management only responds to positive reviews so I don’t expect to hear anything but hope I hear an update on when you guys improve your sushi back to normal standards!
Food was really good. Portions were filling. I went to the dineout event at Ancora and the food was great
Fabulous cuisine with friendly and professional service.
Really good food and service. Atmosphere is great on a warm summer evening as they have a big patio and windows open if you sit inside. Felt safe with everyone wearing masks and lots of space between tables to allow for social distancing . Favorite dish was the sablefish but it was all pretty delicious. Great place for cocktails too. Highly recommend the Pisco sour. Whilst the service was great, we were often left with no water and check-ins were pretty spaced out, hence the loss of one star. But overall great, need to visit more often!
Great service! Food presentation was a bit over the top, I thought that the food was tasty but the view/location and the service is what I'm giving it five stars for. One of the dishes was actually kind of scary looking (see attached photo)
Really good restaurant! Food isn't fusion per se, as there's items with Peruvian influence, and others with Japanese influence. The steak for example came with a salsa or soy sauce. The view bis great and wr had a lovely date with the lady :)
Simply an outstanding restaurant. Exceptionally made creative and tasty culinary dishes presents by an attentive service team.
We went for the Pescatarian Prix Fix menu. They were understaffed and service was slow. The food portion sizes were inconsistent. My food sesame crusted tuna tataki appetizer was excellent. My main of steel head trout was a nice portion and very tasty. The dessert of matcha mousse with strawberry crema and fresh strawberries and kiwi sorbet was excellent. My friend appetizer of prawns and cous cous, fried rice with prawns and her spiced picarones with candied pecans, spiced syrup and ice cream was good. Our friends had different appetizers and mains.
Eh, it was ok. Nothing to brag about, service was good though.
This restaurant has been operating for quite sometime. This is the best time of the year to experience dining in their patio. The interior design of the place in my opinion is very well executed. The wall in the dining area is well designed and airy. You feel certain joy and lift a little bit of your sprit. The service..very good, attentive. Bread was served with some sort of root vegetable spread. With all had the bisque, very well presented and tasted good and light and smooth. The sashimi, two kinds of fish both fresh. The roll was plentiful and filling. For main, we all shared the shrimp risotto which could have been good except that on first bite, I knew it was little bit salty. The scallops and pork belly was the last dish and well prepared but not outstanding. A very enjoyable evening and huge thanks to our happy, hard working server.
Views were stunning and food was great. Fusion of Peruvian and Japanese flavours make a unique combination. Cocktail and wine list we're also quite refined.
Very nice patio with view of water around Granville Island and both Burrard and Granville bridges. Attentive staff and great food. Try their gourmet version of Tim Bits ;)
Halibut was bland and dry. Our veggie side dishes of broccoli and Russel sprouts came in their individual bowls. Broccoli was in this massive slices and Russel sprouts were salty and smushy. One would expect more in terms of taste and presentation in a high end overly priced restaurant such as Ancora.
Amazing venue! Beautiful restaurant. Good food too.
We went to Ancora for the Dine Out Vancouver, so this review may not reflect the usual dining experience. It feels that chef had to compromise on a thing or two to make a three course menu fit a $40 bill. Luckily, the compromises seem to apply to starters only. The albacore tuna taviche stars the excellent fish that melts in your mouth, generously sprinkled by a rather lackluster sauce. The ensalada rusa is mostly blunt and uninspiring. When it comes to mains, the picture changes drastically. Both Pacific lingcod and braised short ribs were well-balanced and paired with veggies and grains with great attention. The deserts, subtle and creative, convinced us that Ancora definitely worths another visit for a regular dinner, not restricted by the limits of the festival menu.
Very nice dishes plating. Food is good. Price for wine tasting is too high. 3 glasses for $49 ... and it was only 3 oz. each. Service was acceptable.... couldnt expect too much frm dine out
Yummy!
One of the best seafood restaurants in Vancouver with some amazing sablefish
Seafood pasta was soooo delicious. Even though the amount was small, I was super happy with it.
Had a very lovely dining experience. The food was tremendous and the ambiance was great. We tried everything from the scallop shooters and sushi to the ceviche and risotto. Not a bite I didn't enjoy.
Tried this place out for the first time and I thought the appetizer was pretty good especially the Tuna Tataki. The lobster and shrimp risotto was also good (thought the duck was average). The one downside is that the main dish took a long time to make. I had ordered the "Burst my Bubble" drink and it was a bit too strong for me, however Lina was really nice and gave me some juice to pour over it to make it less strong. She also gave us a complementary dessert and champagne to celebrate our special occasion.
We heard great things about this place but we were really underwhelmed. We ordered the ancora glacier, big eye tuna sashimi, grilled octopus and sablefish. The octopus was delicious but there was only 3 tiny pieces. We expected more for $19. Also the sablefish was overcooked and not as flavourful as we had thought it should be. The sashimi was fresh. Everything else was just okay. Also the hostess made it seem like they were fully booked when we arrived and said we had no reservations. When we left there were still a number of empty tables inside and outside. Overall, we didn’t think it lived up to the hype and we were not happy with the experience.
Amazing, amazing Best dinner after sad day putting down kitty.
Evelyn Smaller or The Forty Four club to us veterans of the DTE is an incredible gift for the less fortunate. They serve cheap, tasty and healthy meals for a mere $2 apiece. The employees are eager to help and are always respectful and kind. If you are looking for a place to donate money, time, clothing then this is a great place.
Delicious seafood. But very pricy.
Wonderful location, creative chef, tasty food.
We visited Ancora during Dine-Out Vancouver and were quite surprised to find that it has taken the place of The C Restaurant that use to operate in the same location a few years back. As with the old restaurant the service and decor have always been top notch. What has changed has been the dishes which now consist of very unique mix of flavors. It was a great experience trying to guess all the flavors that goes into a dish and seeing if you can figure out what they come from. Although unique, the dishes seem to be a hit or miss. Some dishes were okay others were just weird leaving me unsure whether to like it or hate it. If only they worked a bit harder to get the mix of nontraditional flavors together this place would be a great hit. For not, its still a hit or miss thus not a place I would think about if I just wanted a good meal.
Amazing food and awesome service with lovely view!
Very good overall. Lovely service. Rib eye was not the best , was not served on the bone and came pre cut which wasn't my preference. Fish was incredible, very very nice. Really enjoyed the dessert as well. Would definitely go back.
Consistently an exceptional dining experience. Love it every time we go.
Great location great service ,food not very good dry and a bit tasteless
Fantastic patio setting, seafood & drink for happy hour. Returned here for happy hour after we had excellent DineOut experience. Their Peruvian doughnut dessert is a must try!
Amazing patio, amazing food , perfect service
Food was good. Portion size was on a little small for what you're paying. Service for a fine dining restaurant was quite a bit lacking, more on par with what you would get from White Spot.
Love the food here! Some of the best fusion in Vancouver.
My best seafood experience in Vancouver...fine cuisine, rafinée et gastronomique. The experience was WOW, the view and the service too. I recommand 100%
Nice food. Good service.
Worked there a few years ago for one day. The guy paid me $20 because I was late to read is e-mail to come in and I worked 4 hours. Gets his face angry when he pays me, but then smiles and waves outside.
West Coast fine dining doesn't get much better!
Fantastic service and food! The attention to detail was a giant step above most other fine dining restaurants.
I had a dozen oysters and sablefish. Food and service were good but I don’t like the interior of the restaurant. I have weird taste. Awesome restaurant
Great food and service! First time this year sitting inside and really got a different vibe , much more "fine dining" experience than the relaxed and equally enjoyable dining on the patio. We'll be back!
Harsh lighting. Small portions
Stunning views, delicious food, excellent service. But really very pricey.
Better food at West Van location, but not opened up yet.
Very inventive menu
Lunch
5 stars. Good food and great service. Dinner was super delicious and of good portions for fine dining. I reserved for our anniversary and when we ordered the delicious chocolate bar for dessert it came to us with a happy anniversary piece on it. What a nice surprise.
The food is just so weird and the portion is for a 4 year old.
Amazing food! Excellent service!
Awesome location and great food. Service can be hit and miss
Amazing food, Beautiful view, great drinks and excellent service.... highly recommended
With the current patio only restrictions in place, Ancora is one of the best options out there. Right on the water, the dining experience can’t be beat on a nice sunny day. My favourite item is the Ceviche Mixte, and the creative cocktails keep me coming back to try more.
Delicious food, well crafted drink selection, great ambiance and a beachfront patio. Always a great place to visit!
Omg ???? for the exceptional view of city and its people with a glimpse of water world from the patio of this restaurant. Loved watching the sea bus hustling passengers, walkers and joggers gracing the pavement along the water front and some boats docked on the shore and others creating waves in the water. So high on it till now. ❤️ First n foremost the customer service is extraordinary in terms of food serving , communication and soft skills. Menu is quite vast but they have time limit for serving each menu so check that out before you go. We didn’t and so we did not know that they were serving cocktail hours where the food items become limited. No vegetarian option so we were about to leave without eating when they gladly accommodated to our needs and got us vegetarian quinoa salad and vegetarian sushi roll. We were so glad and happy with this gesture but to top it off, we had the best and freshest quinoa salad ever and even the desert of gluten free chocolate brownie was amazing. Even a drink on this patio is worth.
Dine in
Great place. Very clean. Stuff is awesome!!!
not the best service, quite frankly.
Amazing seafood and the duck was amazing
Excellent all around. Great views and food.
Very good carrot cake
Great menu, love the desserts as well. View was amazing especially on a nice day out.
Excellent service and good food. Their big eye sashimi is sooo good! I loved the sable fish as well.
Struggled to get a reservation but it was worth it when we did. We had the sushi platter and prosecco. Between the lovely sun, goodlooking views, food and drink there was nothing not to love.
We enjoyed dinner at cozy and quiet seat. Food and drinks were good and serving was ????????
Amazing views, excellent food ..
Food and atmosphere were nice, but the server got my appetizer order wrong :( overall it was a good dineout
Wonderful place! Amazing food, great staff. We had our Christmas party there and it was perfect. I had a great time. ????
Nice Dine Out @ Ancora Waterfront Very tightly with food & service standard even in dine out event ! Great location for casual gathering especially during sunset on summer !!
Awesome service, amazing food.
Food is good, but not exceptional.
Fresh seafood, some tasty flavours, but the portions are very small considering the price
First time visit will definitely be going back.
Location location, the halibut had this Peruvian twist with the black beans and cooked to perfection, the sushi fresh , the spotted prawn my favourite. Our server Loretta Our server was
I had one of the best sablefish and octopus dishes here, like ever. We lucked out on weather as we scored a nice patio table on a warm September night. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Ancora has become one of my fave fine dining spots in Vancouver.
Original cocktails ???? Fresh sushi’s and Great spot facing the bay ????
Wait staff are quite rude, food is average. Would not recommend.
best seafood in vancouver
I didn't like it much. But my friends liked it.
Great atmosphere, wonderful service, covid friendly. It is a bit noisy so if you're looking for a quiet place, this is not it. I just wish the dine out menu had a meat option. Other then that, the food was good and presentation was great too.
It has been a busy few months, so invited my wife for a date night. I had not realized that our "date" fell on a fireworks night and as i phoned a few of my favourite locations every request for a 19:00 reservation for two was declined. I turned to a google search of good restaurants and found Ancora. When I called they advised they expected a busy night, but if we would move our reservation to 18:30 they would be delighted to have us as guests. The fact they have valet parking the deal was cinched. On arriving, the valet was very curteous and efficient, the lady welcoming us was gracious and responded to our request for a quiet patio table with a bit of shade. The waiter was quick to see to our needs and the makings for a great evening where in place. We spent some time reading a full and diverse wine listing and settled on a delightful Rose. We then ordered a couple of delicious fresh oysters, and then moved to an amazing cerviche, then big eye tuna sashimi, and then a vegetariann appetizer. For the entre, we chose to split the halibut....delicious! Actually, every bite of each dish was a treat! We finished the rose over a cheese plate....our visit was perfect. But, the menu called to us one more and we each had a desert....way over the top...but delicious! We don't get downtown Vancouver often, but it will be a struggle to chose somewhere else the next time...we were enchanted by a great location and great food. WELL DONE ANCORA.
I had Vancouver Dine Out with friends. The restaurant is located at the end of Howe St, opposite of Granville Island. It has a beautiful view of yachts and water. The restaurant has split levels, cosy and quiet which gives an great ambience. We sat on a second level at a corner which is perfect. There are three options of choices for each courses. Also, they have other add ons from the menu, say extra $1 for bread and other individual priced sushi, sashimi... I had the Nekkei Style Trout Ceviche for appetizer, which is a raw trout sashimi with daikon, cucumber salad & hoisin vinaigrette dressing, garnished with a crispy Nori .It is fresh, light and delicious for a starter. My friend ordered the Crispy Prawn Cursa with Beet Potatoes, it is well presented and taste excellent too. For the main course, we all ordered Pork Tenderloin with Celeriac Puree and Potato Pavee as one of the course is vegetarian and the other is Salmon dish. Again the dish came in a fabulous display, the tenderloin is cooked to a perfectly pink, tender and juicy, the roasted Brussel Spout taste good too. We ordered Okanagan Riesling white by glass. For dessert , we had the Rice Pudding Pana Cotta and Tres Leche Cake with Berries, compared to the appetizers and the main courses, the last course is the weakest one. Portion is on the small side. Velvet parking is available so as the street meter parking
Ancora is one of my favourite restaurants to go to for dinner. The setting and ambience is perfect for an intimate dinner where you can have great conversation. Food, as always, was great and the staff exuded perfect customer service. I have to add they were very accommodating to my seating request, so a huge thank you to Ancora for another great experience!
Fantastic location, especially on a sunny day, however the happy hour menu was disappointing in taste. The spicy tuna roll was the best tasting item ordered. The staff are friendly and attentive.
Excellent flavor, and reasonably good sized portions for a fine dining restaurant. Excellent service. Didn't try the entree but the soft shell crab tacos were fantastic as was the uni pasta and the lobster risotto. Definitely going back to try more dishes. Complimentary bread was also very tasty so try not to fill up before your meal.
Definitely always wanted to come visit here and it did not disappoint! I came here on short notice and was hoping to get a seat on the patio but it was fully booked which in understandable; however I was still able to get a good seat with a great view. The food was outstanding and fresh and I have come to love Peruvian food! Two great things that I love the most- Peruvian and Japanese cuisine and this restaurant has it both. I ordered hamachi sashimi (absolutely fresh and definitely should get- I have been to many Japanese restaurants and this compares), kushi oysters (very sweet and fresh), scallop shooters (these were ok), ceviche (delicious and refreshing), grilled octopus, steak, risotto, and bok Choy. Everything was enjoyable and on par to the service and ambience. Would definitely come back to this high end restaurant!
Thank you Vladimir for brilliant service and recommendations and just to the whole team for a wonderful experience. Omg the acevichado roll has some kind of magic in it. Amazing. We will definitely be back.
Great meal.
Great experience here! Food was great and atmosphere very pleasant. It’s the perfect fusion of Peru and Japanese cuisine. Everything was made to perfection! Servers were knowledge and accommodating. Will definitely go back!
Amazing food, amazing service. Highly recommend the glacier, every single component was incredible, fresh and tasty!
Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff but for us, the fusion was a bit of a miss.
We went there for dineout this year for lunch. Delicious food and great service! Had the soup, paella, and panna cotta. All were amazing! …
Excellent for food and waterfront environment
Great menu on Dine Out Vancouver. Excellent staff.
Food, view and service was fantastic!
Great oysters during happy hour and a really great view. Most other things are quite expensive, as this restaurant has a very upscale atmosphere and white tablecloths. Valet parking available.
Had an all round excellent new years eve experience with Ancora. Live music, an elegant menu and great service meant a wonderful end to 2019.
Had an amazing meal for a birthday celebration mid-COVID-19, and we were very comfortable with the safety precautions in place. Fantastic cocktails, including the best non-alcoholic mixed drink I've ever had, with similar layering of flavors, froth and garnish that the boozy drinks offer. My partner enjoyed the Negroni, another best we've ever had. The appetizers were incredible, a spicy tuna tataki and a flavourful causas (bites of a potato base with toppings, grilled artichoke for me) both beautifully plated. I was particularly happy to see vegetarian options on the menu when I was considering making a reservation here, since I'm not a big seafood fan, and I really appreciated the delicious and complex veg dishes. We shared the yummy mushroom soup, then I enjoyed a cauliflower steak served with an empanada and carrots on top of a couple different sauces and a mixture of grain (or maybe nuts) that looked like a granola but paired beautifully with the roasted cauliflower. Birthday Haver had the scallops in a creamy garlic sauce with fresh apple chunks adding texture. Unexpected food pairings worked really well! Great dinner, great location and atmosphere, and great staff. We'll be back!
Have gone to Ancora many times and have always had nothing but great things to say about the food and service. However, I tried to book a reservation for my birthday dinner this coming December and was told that the restaurant is "not taking reservations for Fridays and Saturdays" because they want to "leave those open for potential private events". So let me get this straight. It's your regular costumers who supported your restaurant throughout this pandemic yet your loyalty and appreciation is only where the big dollars are. Nice to know ???? and will be supporting other restaurants from now on.
Celebrated my 30th Birthday here with my family and we had a fantastic experience. We came for brunch, the food was incredible the flavors of the fusion were outstanding. The service was amazing and view was breathtaking. Such a beautiful space, I definitely recommend Ancora to all looking for something different!
Great experience. The food is always delicious. The service is absolutely unbeatable. Our server, Tatyana, recommended Sablefish and Peruvian interpretations of Pachamanca (halibut). The presentation and the flavour of the food was perfect, and Tatyana surprised me with a birthday message on the plate with chocolate and mandarin gel. Thank you Ancora.
Delicious food, beautiful waterfont dining. Perfect choice for a summer evening if you're trying to impress. ????
Staff make establishments, I really believe that was the case here. Ancora had great food and drinks but our server Shelby was amazing. Extremely attentive, great conversation and passionate about the food/drinks she was promoting. Great human being
The tuna roll is not up to the standard as expected.
Beautiful room. Excellent service. Was pleasantly surprised and blown away by the kids menu. Will definitely be back for the amazing patio. Thank you.
Super cool fusion menu and cocktail list. Great brunch and awesome patio
Overall a very good experience. Friendly staff. Great view of the water. We ordered the Glacier Seafood Tower. There was a good variety (oysters, sashimi, shrimp, ceviche, etc.). The lobster risotto was just ok, as the rice was a little crunchy. The chocolate cheesecake was very food paired with mint ice cream.
Had an awesome birthday here. Our group got carried away and didnt realize the time; we started cutting the cake around 10 and finished close to 10:30. Someone realized that they actually closed at 9:30 and the staff/waiter didn't ask us to leave or let push us to pay at all. I recommend the uni and duck breast here.
Expensive yet exquisite platter to enjoy various foods on a hot sunny day if you're sitting on the patio with an umbrella of course. The service is great too!
A great experience. Every member of the staff was incredibly friendly. The food was DELICIOUS. we sat on the patio which is a must. Views of the boats and water are amazing.
Service
Amazing dining experience! Fantastic food, service and atmosphere.
Fantastic Peruvian cuisine
Service is extremely poor. Seated us 30 minutes late, drinks came an hour after we ordered it, and attitude in general is lacking.
Great location right on the seawall overlooking False Creek. Service was excellent, but none of the dishes hit it out of the park. The ceviche & causa platters were fairly sparse for price, and the mains were under-seasoned and generally unexciting. We love Peruvian and Japanese flavours, but for the price there are way better options in Vancouver for both.
they are the best ! super good quality food
This very special restaurant has such fabulous cuisine and the atmosphere where it is located along False Creek just adds to the delicious experience...the identified Peruvian and Japanese influences on the cuisine Make for a real adventure in this Dine Out Vancouver 2021 festival..the service by the staff match the top notch cuisine.. our entire evening was just totally perfect ... the care that the Ancora Restaurant took in the wearing of masks, keeping tables at proper distance and paying special attention to the food and service makes this review an easy recommendation for others to make their reservations....
Everything was perfect including food and service. Absolutely amazing experience
After a Dr. appointment in the area, my husband and I thought it would be nice to have a nice meal on the patio before heading home. I made a reservation for Ancora, we walked over and were a few minutes early. We stood at the entrance for far too long and not a single person made eye contact with us, the staff seemed more interested in conversation. A hostess, a bartender, a waitress and someone in the kitchen were all visible to us. There is really nothing worse than a lack of acknowledgement of your guests. Needless to say I cancelled the reservation and we walked out. I messaged the head office for Ancora and have not heard anything, so here is my google review.
Good location and nice ambiance. Sushi pizza is delicious. I asked to be seated upstairs but was told the area was closed. Sat at a table adjacent to the glass instead and it was very cold, despite the heater being on.
Really enjoyed my lunch at Ancora. Perfect services and the food was Tasty! Merci Chef!
Dine in
Great ambiance and location. We had a window seat with a great view of the waterfront. The food we had was amazing and our server was very pleasant (forget his name)
Had the most amazing sablefish. Stunning patio setting and staff were very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this place.
I have to say I loved this restaurant. It is elegant and refined but not pretentious. The food is amazing and the seafood is all super fresh. I think the price point is a great deal for food is this quantity, I know I would pay almost twice the price in Seattle. We loved it here for a beautiful mother's day lunch.
Excellent west coaat fine dining with a Japanese/Peruvian twist. Thorough wine menu, the Peruvian entres were 10/10, so was the sablefish. Wasn't a fan of the seared tuna, nor the beer selection. Otherwise amazing place with a beautiful patio.
Fantastic Peruvian-Japanese fusion food with a great waterfront view
Fresh seafood, beautiful presentation. Great service! Will return for sure.
Utterly disappointing. Unless you are considered a VIP I recommend you stay away from this location. Me and my friends were called after we had put our name on the waitlist only to be told that they had mistakenly given our table to someone else by the time we showed up which was within only 5 minutes. The host then offered us the only remaining table which was in the sun which was impossible to sit at during the recent heat wave in Vancouver. We were then promised that the next table in the shade would be ours. We had to wait for an hour for a group to pay for their food and leave and as we were getting ready to walk in this guy with his girlfriend tried to walk in to the restaurant only to be told by the host that they do not accept walk-ins. A couple of quick texts however put them again ahead of us and we were told that they are a "VIP" guest. Being hungry though we decided to sit in the sun. The manager did not even apologized and it took until we started asking some questions that the manager came to our table and offered a free bottle of Champaign.
Excellent quality food (try the Arroz con Pato). The halibut ceviche was good but needed some kind of bread or crackers. Roasted brussel sprouts were a bit salty, but really crisp!
Great service and while the food is on the pricier end it was well presented and delicious. Recommend coming here during Dine Out Vancouver where it’s cheaper as a set menu and if you’re feeling fancy - a wine pairing too.
Happy hour was fantastic! Along with great service ☺️
Great service and food
A chilled glass of sauvignon blanc twinkling in the mid-afternoon sunshine on a patio overlooking Vancouver’s iconic False Creek should have felt like a luxurious escape but yesterday at Ancora, I felt like I was trapped in an episode of “Fixer Upper.” If I wanted to sit in a cluttered patch of paving stones surrounded by unfinished projects, weeds and clutter, I’d have stayed at home !
Unique menu. Peruvian Japanese. Eclectic Patrons
I had two day ago lovely dinner Friendly services and kindness staff i love them and elegant clean food high taste ???? professional cooking Thank you chef.
Great Service from Vladimir. Excellent Peruvian Paella and mushroom soup today. And try the truffles...
I always thought about trying this place, as the location seems nice. However, every time I pass by during my run, or on my bike, all I see are the staff smoking ciggarettes around the property. This really turns me off, and brings the class of this place down, in my book anyways. I think I'll pass.
Amazing food, great date night place.
Great food and view
Went there a while ago for Japanese Peruvian tasting menu event . Was a great experience.
An amazing experience on the patio.. professional service, clean facility and delicious food. I came mid-day and tried the tempura roll. The best I've ever had! Extremely fresh and served promptly. The wine options were nice. Docked a star because the beer that was requested, which was on the menu, was not available. As was the second choice of beer. However, the Daura Damn (Barcelona beer) was so refreshing as an alternative.
Excellent, expensive but worth it.
Happened to visit this place during dinner time over grounded. food no flavour. However, the service was good.
Beautiful restaurant. Amazing food, but very pricey. Worth it for a special occasion
Seafood was fresh but taste of dishes was very mediocre. Ordered the seafood tower, scallop shot, ceviche, sushi pizza, uni tagliatelle, bok choi. Seafood tower - very meh, the best part was probably the scallop in the ceviche mixto. My sashimi pieces had bones in them, this was a first for me as Ive never had bones in my sashimi. Uni tagliatelle - was not rich and creamy as expect but was more like a salt bomb. The noodles themselves had decent texture but the dish was way too salty. Bok Choi - this was probably the only other thing I liked from the restaurant. It was surprisingly quite good. Service overall was ok but would not recommend the restaurant to anyone.
The food is definitely really good but it is ridiculously expensive!!!
Great seafood in a higher end venue.
Dinner
This place is an absolute delight to visit. I recommend this to any restaurant goers. I recommended to all my friends and family. From what I have heard they have enjoyed it too. Great service!
The overall experience was good. I went on a Sunday for lunch with some friends, seafood products were very fresh but I found the portion of cebiche small, the seafood tower for 4 people was expensive regarding the amount of portion (minuscule mussels). The acevichado roll was delicious and the lobster and shrimp risotto very tasty. We asked for two different desserts, I particularly preferred tres leeches because picarones were not well done, I just liked the lucuma ice cream in that dessert. We ordered pisco sour as well, it was ok but kind of strong. I realized that the lunch menu from the website was not the same offered in the restaurant which is a shame cause I wanted to ask for the seafood pasta, Peruvian style paella and Peruvian pork belly sandwich. The service was good an the prices for some dishes kind of expensive. Being honest, I was expecting more.
Beautiful location right off false Creek with views of Granville Island and the water. Seafood was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. Definitely recommend Ancora.
Everything about this experience was superb. First off, the service from Tatjana was excellent, she was attentive and offered her thoughts on the Dine Out menu which we ended up getting. Second, the service from the rest of the staff was equally great. The food was as expected, heavenly. The entree was sufficiently filling but also full of flavour. The dessert was where it all came together, and I'm so glad we left room. Definitely a must try in Vancouver.
Manager was great but the experience was very subpar. Our cups were empty and took a while for the waitress to refill. Some parts of our food was eliminated without notification at all, yet was charged the same price for the dish. Sparkling water was $9 per person (which is quite extreme!). We expected a lot more and better quality from this restaurant - came out disappointed, unfortunately. Will not be back.
Love the glacier platter and the spider roll! Nice spacious patio, friendly service as well.
If you've never been here you're missing out. This place has some of the best dishes in Vancouver. Similar to Blue water cafe in some ways. Seafood, Sushi and sashimi, and lots more. Great location and with amaizing views. And of course best service. Will be back again for sure.
Awesome foods! I'll go here again with my family.
Spectacular. Fresh seafood and creative takes on Peruvian vegetables. Order the picharones!
The restaurant is very decent. good food and High class service. The cuisine and the speed of serving dishes is admirable. The staff is very attentive and helpful. A visit to this place will leave a pleasant aftertaste.
I have been to Ancora twice now, both times to celebrate my birthday, because they are nothing short of fantastic! Food is always amazing. This year I was able to get a reservation for Dine Out and the menu was outstanding! My favourite was for sure the Crispy Skin Pork Belly. Skin so crispy, I couldn't cut it with the knife. And the meat just melted in your mouth. All the accompaniments on the plate were mind blowing with how complex yet simple the flavours were, which did not take away from the dish! The Spicy Ponzu served with Oysters elevated the flavour of the oyster and was so delicious, I used it for the Aburi Hokkaido Scallop Nigiri! Love the ambience of Ancora, the service is outstanding especially their sommelier Barret Pearson, and of course, go for the food!
3.5 star. Tried the dine out menu. Soup is below expectation - taste was unique but cannot be considered good taste. My partner tried the tuna appetizer - the tuna was good but the sauce was too strong n cud not blend with the fish. The main course was ling cod fish which was quite good . Dessert was tiramisu which was v sweet n shd be pair w a cup of strong black coffee
Servers were fantastic, setting was great, and food was delicious. For the price, though, the portion size was very small.
Amazing! Great food
Excellent Peruvian Food!! #ceviche#arrozconpato My favourites dishes!
Would be nice to have the caviar listed in the menu be available. Would be better if there was also an option of Russian Standard to come along with it.
We had a terrific dinner during "dine out Vancouver" weeks. This restaurant offers nice menu choices at a great price with impeccable service. Highly recommend.
Amazing Amazing. Food, ambience and service, exceptional. Highly recommend
Great but on the pricey side.
Great food and amazing service!
I had a bad experience, the management (Michael) is treating the staff like slaves and I over heard him saying some negative racial remarks. The food was mediocre, west van location is better!
Excellent raw bar n wonderful food with great ambiance n views.
This review is not about the food quality which was outstanding - but more for the service. We came in on a Friday evening to celebrate our daughter’s 25th birthday - we brought a cake (which was a special cake - my daughter’s favourite) and nobody cared to go above and beyond. Perception is reality … and what we perceived was that we were not welcomed to the restaurant. The interaction/attention we got from everyone that spoke with us was just ‘sterile’. There were two people who actually came across genuine… one - the gentleman who brought us our main dish presenting them to us and a lady who was intrigued by one of the presents we gave our daughter. Asides from that .. nothing special. The food quality and presentation - amazing! And hats off to the culinary team.
Please try to avoid this restaurant….the fool customers as well employees…they doesn’t pay tips to employees …worst working experience…they cancel shifts even 40 mins before …
What a lovely place! Having lunch here felt like a mini holiday: sunlit table, french music and beautiful view.... And delicious food! And good covid measures in place. I'll be back for sure!!
Overall very forgetful experience. I don’t even remember what I had tbh and I just ate there.. the dishes were pretty good but nothing was exceptional for it’s price point. I will be going back to other more memorable places in the future.
Lovely experience here, felt very safe eating in. The tables were well spaced and we were not seated next to each other. The seafood platter was fresh and unique (although Bluewater/ has the best seafood tower in town imo).
I didn't want to give a 4 so this is more a 3.5 review. Originally we were excited to try their cocktail hour but for a lot of reasons we arrived later than expected and in the door at 5:25. As we walked in I immediately asked if we could squeeze an order in for happy hour. She said no it was too late. We then got seated and as I was looking at drinks I was looking for a drink that I saw on the menu on the website. Of course, it happened to be only available on the happy hour menu (I was used to other restaurants having all drinks available, just cheaper during happy hour but she explained that they were only on the menu so they can test them out and I understood). She asked the bartender anyway if I could still have it but the whole thing gave me a sour first impression because we could have ordered a drink during happy hour, she just didn't want us to. It's not a big deal...the $2.50 saved, but more the fact that they have a time set but it's actually more like 4:30-5:15. The food though was excellent. We had the Mixto ceviche, lobster and shrimp risotto, Nori crusted tuna and the duck. All had very thought out flavours and I loved the Peruvian-Japanese spin on each dish. I had recently been to Peru so it was a nice culinary reminder and representation of my food experience there. As for the service, it was ok. We were put at a table that unfortunately was at an odd spot for the sun so one of us was getting blinded and we couldn't rearrange ourselves easily to get out of it. It also got pretty loud because a large party was there. I think I would have appreciated being asked where we wanted to sit when we came in. We also felt rushed to order when we had just sat down. All in all, the food absolutely lived up to the fine dining experience, but the service did not. Something as simple as acknowledging a birthday, asking if we had a preference of where we wanted to sit, allowing us to order during what was still definitely before their advertised happy hour ended, being aware that we were still looking through the menu before asking a few times if we were ready, would have been small things to elevate our experience there.
Great and yummy food, and excellent service
With the restaurants suspended for in dining you start looking around for patios. Let me tell you that this place has the views, ambiance and top notch service. By far one of Vancouver best waterfront patios. Go say hi to the manager Keon! He was super friendly, knowlegable, and accommodating, he definitely made my Ancora experience ???? better. Phil
Too many rough edges to recommend. Food was generally very bland, despite the exotic menu descriptions. Halibut was way over cooked and served in a tasteless sauce. A starter of celeriac panna cotta was a waste of calories. Causa ( cold mashed potato dish ) was salty, sour and stale. Champagne was served in a white wine glass which ruined the drinking experience, but it was explained to us it is always served that way here- though theydid pour it into flutes for us. While our server and the manager were very nice, there was a distinct lack of organization. We had to shuffle plates out of the way when a server arrived with appetizers (literally one minute after ordering, by the way). We had to ask for water refills three times. Even though we were there celebrating a birthday, we left instead of ordering dessert. Such a disappointment.
A stunning restaurant, which instantly reminds you of a fine dining restaurant in the middle of Peru. So cozy, warm & welcoming. We tried out their Dine Out menu and it great value without any compromise to food quality. Probably the best Seared Lingcod I've ever had!Tatiana was our waitress and we had top notch service. Extremely polite, professional, knowledgable and very friendly. She had other tables but never failed...Pisco sour flight was incredible. We will be back soon.
Nice place for tasty seafood dishes.
Nice view and great food
Great food! Price right for a fine dining restaurant. Saw the reviews in multiple magazines including one from England. Potentially a michelling star restaurant. For. Ring open for one year only! Love the atmosphere. Had my company dinner there.
Interesting menu, we love some of the ingredients they use. Definitely fusion cuisine. Nice atmosphere and overall great service.
Dare I say, the best seafood in Vancouver. Having been to Japan and Peru it has the best of both. Must go back and try more dishes. A deliteful treat in my hometown.
Awesome place. Great service. Good food. Our waiter Justin was excellent! Very helpful, obliging, came to check on us several times and seemed like he was a veteran there although he mentioned that he was a new employee, which surprised us because of the level of service we received. Great job Justin. Thank you!
Delicious food and cocktails but it's pricey for small portions.
Wonderful place and great food.
The patio view is amazing and its very serence and quiet! The food is great and the staff are very helpful. Definitely will be returning! My girlfriend says the place is perfect
Delicious food and great service. Portions are small though.
This place is in a beautiful spot. Came with my wife’s family for her birthday. My complaint is that it’s so loud from the acoustics inside that we couldn’t hear each other or the servers, and the price is quite high. Food is delicious, but the size compared to price makes makes question the value a bit, but a cool place if money isn’t a concern. I’d go back for drinks on their patio.
Very nice and pleasant experience, amazing view and excellent service, delicious food and unique recipe, I really enjoyed. Highly recommend ????
Recommend!!! The food is delicious and good service !
Came here for Dine Out Vancouver Fest, and every dish was an adventure for both the eyes and the taste buds! Everything was on point.
We had one of the most humiliating experiences where we had ordered two orders of scallops and both orders had a scallop cut in half. We asked the chef why he cut it and we were told that scallops were too big so he had to cut them to save money. For the price paid this is humiliating. The chef should be fired and should never serve for this job at any other restaurants
Fantastic location, good and service. Nice wine selection!
I love their happy hour wonderfully priced. The view is amazing and I enjoyed the inside bright and fresh decor.
I don't understand why this restaurant has such high stars. I ordered an octopus dish. It was just a little bit of food on a plate, amd the taste and texture were weird. I thought it was around $15. The services were so so. The waiter came behind my friend to fill her water without saying "excuse me" or anything that shocked my friend. Another waitress came and took my plate without saying anything. It was empty, so it's ok to take it, but if she asked me, it would be nicer. I don't think it worth to pay that much for the quality of food and services. I better get street food at the Gramville Market to be honest.
Fantastic experience, starting with the hostess Sophia who despite our change in Reservation numbers, quickly accommodated and got us an amazing table. Sushi is simply the best in the City. Incredible patio.
Wonderful, wonderful food.
Great spot. Very nice tequila flight, good value for awesome tequilas (Julio, Azul)
Food was good but not great. Brussels sprouts and bok Choy was good, grilled artichoke cauasas was very bland. Not sure what was trying to be achieved with that.
Ancora is a special place. The food and wine exceptional as well as the service.
Food was good. Really want to see how it is in summer, sit on the patio.
A bit disappointed on their menu. We expected a more exciting meal. The flavors are good but not excellent and the rissotto has a layer of "foam", trend which some people seem to enjoy but for me it was con. The bread made in house (focaccia) is great! And their wine and location/view make up for some of that but I would not go back based on the menu.
Just had drinks. Very nice
Very tasty cocktails but not a fan of the food. Nice space and friendly but scattered staff. Really like their location and frequented it while it was C.
Creative flavours, detailed playing, fantastic service.
5 out of 5! The quality of their food was great, and their service was amazing. I've been disappointed with different restaurants' services recently, so it was so refreshing to receive a great service. I initially thought their portion was small, but after finishing our dessert, my stomach was filled perfectly (not too full to the point you want to throw up!)???? The dessert we ordered was so unique and we loved it! We are definitely returning to this place again! and highly recommend to others who want to eat good sea-food meals.
Great cocktail hour small plates and drinks!
OK. It’s pricey, but the service and food was perfect. We needed a great seafood restaurant and Ancora did not disappoint. Lobster risotto was mouthwatering. My daughter had a fish (sake?) that was buttery and flakey, yum! They even accommodated our vegan daughter with delicious options. Dropped over $400 for 4 adults and 2 bottles of wine but it was an unforgettable dining experience, which makes it worth the price tag.
Food, service and location were all excellent
Wonderful location on the waterfront. Servers there take a fine dining approch to their attire & stayed within reach without crowding us. Great atmosphere for a date. The seafood was amazing, they had a variety of oysters & on point with price range. Will return.
Went there for dine out, good atmosphere with beautiful night water view, food taste is above average.
Great patio, food and service
A nice upscale restaurant, service is impeccable, views are nice, but food was not the greatest, may be my expectations were a bit too high.
Excellent tuna and a relaxing environment.
Delicious
The food is spectacular and the service is excellent. Ricardo is a genius. The negative reviews on here say a lot more about the writers than the restaurant.
Pricey but worth it
Food 5+/5 Views 5/5 Wine list 4.5/5 Service 5/5 Amazing place! We tried so many dishes there and truly was blown away. The sashimi was one of the best I've ever had. The tasting menu is small, so you'll definitely need to supplement it with others dishes. However, it's worth visiting several times to try out on their selections. I highly recommend this place.
had an enjoyable night eating here! my friends and i ate here and watched the sun set at the patio! and i'm telling you, the view is absolutely great! you definitely want to come check here out. 10/10!
This place is amazing. Every bite was an experience. Highly recommend checking out the cocktails as well.
Delicious food, great location, and excellent service.
Its your local guide Mandeep here. Haha. This is a true 5/5 experience Location: Right in front of granville Island. No tankers or sulpher mounds. Service: Forgot her name (tall lady) but she did a wonderful job guiding us through the menu. If the owner reads it she served Mandeep @6pm on July 15. They also threw in a generous extra. Thank you. Food: We came for our anniversary and I am usually let down by higher priced restaurants because I can cook similar foods myself. This unique Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, I can not do. Great job to Executive Chefs Sebastian and Yoshi. I would describe the donut type dessert as a masterpiece in the culinary arts. After eating it, I wanted to hug the chef and kiss my wife. All my tastebuds were on in overdrive and I really did not know what to do with that experience. Never happened with food before. The cerviche mixto, sushi rolls, and crab tacos are also recommended. The "pasta" is good as well. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary experience.
Terrible service last night what can I say. The servers were really awful; appies came out after entrees, orders were constantly forgotten, and we were forgotten as a birthday party by our servers. On several occasions we were ignored and our server was nowhere to be found during drink orders and food orders. The server we had also forgot to punch in entrees and guests were left without entrees to eat. The food itself was extremely overpriced and we had 2 steaks overcooked, including the wagyu steak for $150 we had. I have had wagyu several times in other restaurants including in Japan, and this was definitely at the bottom of the experience list. We spent $1100 at our table and could have gotten better service at Earls or Cactus Club, where our party guests weren't hungry and disrespected by the staff. First experience and last experience to say the least for Ancora, and some people at our table that have been to Ancora several times recommended this restaurant but will never be back again. When the service is that bad it makes the food taste awful as well. Not worth the money we paid for because of how we were treated as guests and customers. Complete disappointment for the night. We should have listened to the other negative reviews and booked our party elsewhere, because we had the exact experience in those other 1 star reviews.
excellent food really fresh, absolutely wonderful. But waiter might need some more training.
The restaurant has a nice ambience, though we had issues with lighting design. Other tables as well needed to ask server to adjust the lights. The hostess was rather unwelcoming, even for normal restaurant standards, let alone a high-end restaurant. The server missed the glass and he poured some sparkling water on the table. This was not acknowledge, I was surprised it happened. The sommelier was attentive. The nigiri and main course were delicious. I suggest there is much room for improvement in the service of the hostess and some servers. We were both a bit disappointed with the dining experience.
Great Patio, Sashimi was awesome, service was spectacular this night????
Monique, Jess and Phillipe were all attentive and created an excellent, quality dining experience. From caviar, to French wine and decadent main courses of sablefish & scallops with pork belly, we barely had room for desert... but thankfully topped off the night with a panna cotta sweet treat. Perfect patio ambience and indoor dining in the past was equally superb. Thank you for your personable care and memorable cuisine Ancora False Creek team!
Stopped in at 5pm May 10. Restaurant was empty except for lounge seating. Was told we could have a seat but must give up table at 6pm. We sat at a table in lounge area. Waited 10 mins before our drink order was taken. Drinks came & the waiter never came back to us for our food order, but kept serving the 3 guest tables around us. We ordered after waving him down. Food came, it was good. The usual complimentary bread & hummus never arrived to us, but to all the other guests around us. Poor service & attitude for a fantastic location a few steps from my home. As we left at 6pm three quarters of the outdoor seating was still empty. Next time we’ll go to il Giardino for great attitude, service and food.
Awesome place, great service and tasty food.
Hottest seafood resto right now in Vancity.
good Delicious.
Nice spot too bad happy hour end at 5
Very beautiful outside views of the water & Granville Island. Great food, nice service
Small portions, overpriced, decent view. Wouldn't return. Nothing special.
Expensive but worth it. Food was very good, service was attentive but not intrusive. Beautiful atmosphere. Overall a very good experience.
Great flavors and an inspired menu. Will have to go back to try other dishes!
Excellent service, delicious, creative dishes
After dining at this place multiple times. I’ve found the food and service pretty good. However I was walking along the seewall and I really needed to use the washroom. I thought I could just use it here. However I was told by the hostess (Nicole) that I wasn’t allowed to use the washroom if I wasn’t dining in. And I found that a bit uncalled for and unprofessional. Hence, my bad review. And I can say thanks Nicole as I won’t be dining here again.
Pricey but classy, with good food and nice atmosphere
Fantastic seafood, ambience and service!
Great atmosphere and food!
I only got the chance to taste sushi, fresh and delicious, I loved the spicy one
Ancora is very unique restaurant in Vancity. They always change their menu to make food more unique. You should try out.
The ambience here is simply amazing and I really loved the seafood!
Had lunch at Ancora today. It’s been a while since I’ve been down to that part of False Creek, but it was a reminder how beautiful it is down there. Once all the construction is done around Vancouver House, the area will be a great place to walk around and explore (if you can find parking). As for the restaurant, they’ve done a good job with covid protocols and I felt safe out on the patio. The food was good with big punches of Peruvian flavour. While it is described as Peruvian-Japanese fusion, it definitely leans more Peruvian. We ordered the seafood platter, paella and duck salad. All were good, but it definitely feels like you’re paying more for the view than for refined food and subtle details. The service was fine, but with a fairly empty restaurant, the dishes came out slowly and to celebrate a birthday at the table, the only thing they could muster up was a candle that went out before the dessert we ordered made it to the table. The restaurant in the home of the former C site was fine, but there are a number of other restaurants in Vancouver that really follow through on details, service and food that are a better bang for your buck. If you are looking for a patio to impress on a nice day, Ancora works, but I was expecting a little more.
Ancora brought back a lot of nostalgia for me, being in the same location as the old "C' restaurant, which was one of the standard bearers for seafood in the city for decades. The restaurant is as beautiful as ever and the staff very attentive. The food continues to be seafood centric and I while I enjoyed my meal, I was not wow'd by every bite. Still very good, with an unbeatable location.
Right on the waterfront, view is amazing. The service here is top notch. I recommend getting the ancora glacier if you have 4 ppl, its 135 but it's worth it. I had the sable fish and sea urchin dish, was delicious with good flavors. The entree are a bit pricey from 36 to 45. Place is great, good place to have a fancy birthday
Very creative. Love it
Fine dining, excellent service and food. Came here for a birthday dinner. Our host Nate was really great helped us plan our dinner perfectly. Will definitely come back
Such a beautiful patio! Friendly servers and yummy appies!
Dine in
Carefull, plates are big! Very tasty, so I ate to much.
I am lucky to eat in many lovely restaurants in many different places. However it is rare that I get such a wonderful meal that I think about it the next day. Yes, Ancora is not cheap but is worth every penny you pay. The decor, innovation, presentation, flavors and service add up to a fantastic meal. My new go to favorite in West Van.
Good place to spend some along the riverside, the food is amazing
Absolutely delicious food. Great patio and lovely drinks.
Amazing views! My oysters were rubbery and not shucked properly. The Proseco was flat. You pay for the view.
Drinks after a day on the water. Bartender was nice and attentive.
Not terrible, but not good and fell way below our expectations for a few reasons. Food was average considering other reviews and cost. Service was the worst part and felt awkward several times over. We were sat at a hightop table next to a bussing area where staff frequently stood by us stress talking about work. Asked to move our chairs a couple times to accommodate them. Ordered a pre-set meal which was good-ish and we added oysters that came after a rich appetizer that we had not finished eating. Never experienced oysters coming after other dishes. Felt sloppy and rushed. Something we might expect at Cactus Club, not a classy place with 4 $'s. When delivering our oysters to the table, the server dragged their sleeve across my appetizer. Accidents happen, but during COVID times had us bothered a bit more than usual. Because of the awkwardness of the night, we avoided complaining. Host seemed bothered by us overall, having told me our reservation was for an hour later (it was not). Main course was really good, but considering a $250+ meal, fell well below what we expected. Should note, we had spoiled ourselves that week eating at three comparable higher-end spots in Vancouver in addition to Ancora. Blue Water Cafe, Coast, Joey Fortes. All exceeded Ancora across all fronts for us. Shame as we had high hopes for Ancora as we live down the street now and would love a local favorite. Wont return.
One of the best experiences I’ve had in recent memory! The service was top notch in knowledge and kindness. The kitchen accommodated our requests and delivered nothing but delicious food. Management made sure we were comfortable from start to finish. Thanks Ancora!
Lena pours the best drinks #GA
I'm from Peru and I quite love this restaurant. It doesn't offer typical Peruvian food but the gourmet style offers a pretty good option to get to know the Peruvian style. I highly recommend it!
Wonderful service, great view, good food, cool cocktails. Pleasant environment. Lovely.
Have been there lots of times and I can say the quality of food and the ambiance is pretty good, a bit pricey but worths it. However, the attitude and reservation system is awful! There is always a waiting time, with lots of empty tables! They insist of having reservations but never respect even their policeis! No matter of having reservations or not, you wanna sit inside or in the patio, you have to wait! Even with 6-8 tables ready! The front girl is very rude and non rational! Last time I called to reserve a table in the patio, and as usual I was told that "we don't take reservations for the patio, it's first come first serve", when we got there, wait for 45mins and there were 2 tables kept empty in the patio, and when we asked why, the front girl told us they're reserved!! "But you told you're not take reservations for the patio, and we've been waiting for 45mins, and there are 2 tables ready", long story short, the front girl and the reservation system sucks, but the food and servers are good.
Relaxing and comfortable outdoor patio. Great staff, lovely wine selection.
Very yummy food - fast - not cheap ???? But very nice service - good place to seat on sunny day patio - fresh oysters -glass of????
An elevated dining experience is what Ancora at False Creek provides. And - no better place (IMO) in the city for cocktails. The bar manager (Kam) is a wizard at mixology. The view is the “cherry on top”.
Fusing these two cuisines was a fantastic idea.
My favorite restaurant in Vancouver!
For a business dinner, this was an excellent culinary experience, with beautiful views and customer service! Will definitely come back!!
Enjoyed a lovely dinner here a few months ago. Good wine list too.
Poor poor service and food was far below average! Literally went to mcdonalds after eating dinner here. Avoid
Great outdoor dining experience especially during this Covid time. I felt the staff did everything possible to respect physical distancing with the change of a few protocols. The quality of food and service met my expectations
We went for Dine Out. Our server and the host were very friendly and professional. We enjoyed our entrees and dessert but found that my roasted lettuce appetizer did not have enough flavour or sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly and came out in a timely manner. The ambience is nice as well. We paid for valet parking, but after the valet told us we could pay with card inside our server told us that we can only pay with cash. The hostess was friendly but did not really help us with our coats as one would expect for finer dining. Overall a good experience with just a few areas showing a little room for improvement.
Truly wonderful place. The menu is delightful! The location + interior design ????
Delicious and great service. Was not disappointed.
The atmosphere, service, and food were fantastic and greatly exceeded my expectations. Perfect for any occasion or just a relaxed meal with family & friends. I do definitely recommend Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio to anyone.
Service was perfect! but food was little bit too salty.
Fine dining, great ambiance by the water and delicious food.
Great dinner and great service. The Ancora Glacier was awesome and I loved the tenderloin which you can custom order. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic restaurant with amazing food and wonderful cocktails! I highly recommend starting with the Sushi and the Sushi chef is very meticulous and really brings out the flavour of the rice! I had the Duck Breast for dinner and it was amazing!
Great views and delectable food. Definitely a must try, if your looking for an fantastic meal in a beautiful, intimate setting.
Great vibe, food. Their website menu and actual menu doesn't match.
Ambience is amazing.
Disappointed. We are from the area and heard great things about Ancora. Went for a BDay dinner with a plan for cocktail hour drink and oysters and then to move off the patio indoors for a wonderful Bday meal. Ordered drinks, we asked for a cucumber smash as it wasn't on their cocktail list. Described the ingredients but received a standard vodka and soda with cucumber in it. Had to ask for additional ingred. to spruce it up. The Caesar was uninspiring as well. At no point were we handed a cocktail hour menu nor told of the special even though it was that time of day. Ordered our oysters which were a good quality and a great ponzu type sauce to accompany. Our server was nice but completely out to lunch on service etiquette perhaps new to the industry. We had long waits between server visits as they were more interested in setting tables at 5:30pm. We saw plates delivered to the next table which had a wonderful presentation which we assumed to be appies but when we found it was the $45 main we started to question was this the right place for us? We informed the server we would not be staying for dinner. Our bill came to find the oysters at the regular price and a $18 vodka and soda with cucumber. The server had comped the drink but we thought wow $18 for a hi-ball. Luckily we caught the oyster mistake hence another $18 correction. I have no doubt the food is good here and portions may be standard for fine dining establishments and recognized chefs however the service and bar did not match the price tag. Additionally the cocktail hour isn't that aspiring if you are focused on a good happy hour. Three stars because we were disappointed but do believe some aspects of this establishment are good. Of course great location and nice patio.
Awesome experience. The service was top-notch, and the food was tasty. It isn't cheap, but very very good quality so worth what you pay!
Some dishes were bland, duck salad and yam soups were very good
The food was the best I've ever had in my life
Amazing food, such good quality. Great service from all of the staff
Buttersquash soup is super tasty. Tuna is just perfect.cod as well. Nice view ,romantic
We had such an amazing experience at Ancora for my birthday. The service was wonderful, and the seasonal cocktails were complex and delicious. But the food man... THE FOOD. I can’t begin to express how phenomenal it was! I found myself eating extra slowly to savour each bite, the flavours were simply amazing. I am especially grateful that their menu includes several delicious plant-based options, since my boyfriend is vegetarian.
Good selection of tasty appies. Mains were small. Staff were hospitable.
I love the roasted cauliflower with beef. The beef it's just amazing.
Fantastic seafood, very nice dining experience, and good cocktails.
Although spacious and with good service with decent Covid spacing, overall, the food was mediocre although unique, and appears to attract pretentious guests, which is not a vibe I prefer to dine at. At a visit in Nov 2020, several aspects were not satisfying:. The food is slow - for me, it was excessively slow. It's pace is more suited to those who do not have plans following the meal, for a type of company that you can chat excessively about and have lots to catch up on. Not a place to pick if you have other adventures planned. Also, one male server who was the runner, didn't wear a mask properly, so the nose was exposed the entire time - which defeats the point of keeping aerosols contained as this runner also describes the dish as it is placed. An change for the management to review mask practices and give read-time feedback when it is not worn properly? Another upsetting factor: serves bottled still water. How about in-house filtered carbonated or in-house filtered still water instead? Bottled water costs (shipping costs, fuel costs, pollution costs etc). Indeed, glass/plastic is recyclable, but preventing the waste is a much more upstream and sustainable solution. This choice alone, informs me of the companies values. Here is a chance, a this restaurant that still has volume during pandemic times, for management to decide to be part of the change, make simple changes to more socially responsible sustainable business practices. I hope, one day soon.
Ancora was an alternative recommended by the concierge, however after having dinner there, I can say with confidence it should have been the first choice. The innovative wine list, excellent pairings, and overall blend of flavors should put this new restaurant on many 'best of' lists in no time.
Wonderful place and delicious food. Would have been 5 stars if they had turned on the lights earlier but overall a wonderful experience. Excellent and friendly staff. I wish the meals were a bit bigger and had some more meat. Example the grilled octopus was amazing I just wish there were more than 3 pieces of octopus. Thank you so much for reading this review.
View is great but the food is over priced for the offering. A few ok dishes but nothing spectacular. Definitely a tourist trap
We went there for dineout this year for lunch. Delicious food and great service! Had the soup, paella, and panna cotta. All were amazing! I went there last year for dineout for dinner and I remember it being the best dineout last year.
I saw a lot of nice reviews for this restaurant and was really excited to try this place last night. However, I'm Not impressed with their covid protocol at all. Our waitress had her nose hanging out of her mask the whole time she was taking our orders and she kept touching her mask. Then she came out with our plates and cutlery. It's not clear whether she washes her hands or not before she hands us those items but from how often she touches her mask, I highly doubted she did. I got really uncomfortable and talked to the assisting manager regarding this issue. He claimed that the staff sanitize their hands frequently. However, I didn't see that at all. While he was explaining to me, he touched his mask with his hands too. I felt like there is really no point talking to him about it because he was doing the same thing as our waitress. After the assisting manager talked to her, she gave us dirty look every time she walked by our table and when she was cleaning tables outside looking in at our table. That was very uncomfortable. We can also see the kitchen staff from where we were sitting. I saw two of the chef wore their masks under the chin while prepping food. I really don't get why they even bother to wear masks when they are not covering their nose and mouth. The restaurant really needs to educate their staff and work on their covid protocol. I would expect a nice, high-end restaurant like this to have higher standards. This is Very disappointing! My cauliflower steak was really delicious! I would definitely recommend that to people. My friends had the crab taco. They said that was amazing!
The food here is good , very good plating. But everything is too salty
went with my wife and another couple, we loved the food, there were so many exotic flavors combined together. Still can't get out of my head this amazing dish of scallops and lime. So nice of the chef to come to the table and explain it to us! All four of us will definitely go back.
Great service and fantastic flavors. The menu covers a broad range of things but they seem to really know how to build a great meal
Beautiful view and excellent service. My dineout experience here was incredible. All the courses I tried were delicious.
Incredible food and beautiful room! This place is as spectacular inside on a rainy Vancoyver night as it would be on the patio in the summer.
I have to share this awful experience that I had at Ancora last week. The food and service were good, but when it was time to leave, they somehow lost my umbrella. Normally I would let it go, it's just an umbrella. But the manager of the restaurant was so disrespectful, I am still steaming today. He acted as if I was unintelligent, and said angrily "what do you want me to do about it?'. There was no apology. Instead, he said he would call me the next day. I have not heard from him. I have made another review on Yelp, and he has still not contacted me. Clearly this establishment does not care about customer experience.
Went out to Ancora last night for 5:30 reservation, wasn't too busy at that time. We were there for Dine Out as many other patrons. Started getting busier as the night went on and by the time we left at 7:00, the place was packed and a line waiting for a table. This was probably one of my favourite dining experiences I have had. Excellent service, good portions of everything, the short rib was amazing, and the decor and lighting were excellent. Great place for a date. It was dark out when we got there but the view on a sunny day must be unbelievable. Great location, lots of options for parking in the area. Must come back again!
I booked a reservation here for a friend's birthday. I called in advance and asked them to add a dessert to my bill. I specified that I'd like "happy birthday" written on the plate for my friend. The male who answered said they were out of melted chocolate but would do something special to make up for it. We arrived on a weekday and it was rather quiet, which was expected. We were greeted and seated quickly. In short, the service from our server was great but the food wasn't anything special. We ordered oysters, hamachi carpaccio, and a the Dungeness crab roll to start. For my entree, I ordered the 6oz tenderloin (not pictured). The best part of our meal was the dessert. We ordered Peruvian donuts (picarones). Delicious. I'd also like to add that although the restaurant said they'd do something small for my friends birthday, they never did. Very disappointing. The 3 stars are for our friendly, amazing server and the picarones but wouldn't recommend.
A wonderful experience in dining. We went for a birthday so we wanted a special experience. We were not disappointed. First, you sit right on the waterfront (as the name implies). In addition, you get the benefit of the sea wall being right there. This means that people watching is great. The wood was very well presented and the flavours great (we had the tower and I had the duck as the main). There bartender knew exactly what he was doing and the service was exceptional. I highly recommend it.
Great experience with Ancora False Creek. Food is amazing and the seafood is so fresh. Service was great, Tatiana was helpful and attentive, checked up on us regularly, and refilled our water regularly. She is very professional waitress. We will be back. Thanks for being open in these crazy covid times!
Great atmosphere and service for a date night!
I had the scallop entrée this past weekend and it was the best dish I have ever eaten! The staff were friendly and the restaurant was beautiful and intimate. It does not seem accessible for anyone with walking difficulties as there are many stairs to get to the restaurant as well as use the washroom, so keep that in mind. They might have an alternate restroom available but I did not see it.
Great location, friendly staff, and a unique blend of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine. The food was good, but overpriced for what you get. I started with the Nigiri at $5/piece. It was tasty, but no better than the Nigiri you can get for $1.50-1.75 at a good Japanese restaurant, and it was overpowered by the amount of wasabi on it. The appetizer was absolutely delicious, and despite just being four small pieces of sashimi for $18, I’d say it’s still the best value of the night. The main course was $28 and was a decent portion size, but the flavors didn’t seem to mesh very well. The meal tasted very earthy and felt like it needed more acid and salt. I have no complaints about the desert, it was very good and reasonably priced at $11, although the chocolate desert for the same price was twice the size. I would also not get sparkling water if I returned next time. It had a similar taste to the sparkling water from my soda stream, so at $9, I’d get a cocktail instead.
Heard good things from locals about this spot. Good service and views from the patio. The food left much to be desired. A $25 duck salad should have nicer and larger pieces and it shouldn’t be an appetizer size either. My client ordered the shrimp risotto and it was smaller than an appetizer size. I was embarrassed to bring them here. This isn’t a Michelin rated restaurant. The portions should be a bit larger. Quality was mediocre for Vancouver.
Very classy and high end. Stopped in because my bestie was craving caviar. She enjoyed it thoroughly. Not my style of food but great quality and good service.
Hosts was great, fresh sea food.
I have been to Ancora 3x and every time it's amazing. Service is attentive, food is out of this world. They should get a 1 star at the Michelin guide. Best food in Vancouver imho
Food & view ???? cool servers, with good vibes, enjoyed an intimate birthday party there tonight, awesome time, topped by fireworks
Nice location, with beautiful view. Food is expensive though.
Very pretty, had nice time
You guys should be more selective in hiring process! I’ve made a reservation for Sept 1st and arrived there around 8pm. We were seated at the patio and one of the waitresses came up to get the drink orders. I’ve asked for spring water which she didn’t understand and I had to repeat 3 times and the response is ‘we don’t have it, whatever it is’. She was obviously in bad mood and extremely rude. The rest of the staff was ok. Food was average, nothing fancy. Wouldn’t recommend.
One of the best fusion restaurants in Vancouver. The fish was perfectly done, the cocktails were magical and the service impeccable. Loved the new menu. A hidden gem right beside the water. Highly recommended.
Excellent service one of a kind locations and view beautiful place
Great ???? everything!
Unique dishes of Peruvian and Japanese blend. Beautiful interior and plate decor. Dine out best choices: Beef tongue taco Ling cod Dessert: tie ~ both were divine Both of the non-alcoholic drinks were on the sour side - would not recommend.
Beautiful restaurant and location. Excellent fusion cuisine
Spectacular Views service wonderful
Was okay food, but factor in price and I wouldnt eat there again
Taste was fantastic~! Service was great~!
Nice waterfront dining location, too bad it was too cold to enjoy the patio. My favourite item we tasted was the scallops, good contrast of flavours and textures, but the tacos were a miss for me. The menu is nice and big, it also has a sushi section (too I couldn't taste it). The service was good.
My favorite restaurant in Vancouver! Great quality food and service coupled with an excellent atmosphere!
came here for happy hour , drinks are good , service is awesome, view is nice , except the oysters were very small .
I stopped in at Ancora with my daughter to have a Shirley Temple on her birthday. We weren't eating and expected no special treatment yet, after finding out it was her birthday, our server, Alicja, brought over a small plate of chocolate with a birthday candle. I appreciate so much that they went out of their way to make my daughter's day special even thought we weren't sticking around for a full meal.
Although we were sat immediately, we had to wait 15 minutes for anyone to attend to us. And that only happened because I (very politely) asked a server walking by to help us. They were not understaffed, there were 3 different servers who walked by use 3+ times each and we were ignored. Tables next to us felt similarly (we could hear them complain). For the price and the "upscale" nature this restaurant cites, the service was bad enough that I will never return.
Great patio spot with good seafood
Comically bad experience. Was going to give this place 3 stars til we found hair in our last dish. Food was ok, maybe 3-3.5 stars - pretty bland and everything just kind of tasted the same and we were not really sure which vibe they were going for. It said Peruvian-Japanese, yet some dishes have harissa (completely not spicy) and tabbouleh, which is a bit odd. However, the service was the worst I had received in years. First time in at least 5-6 years that I left without tipping. Despite there being 4 tables and 4 staff, my friend and I were neglected by our server to an almost hilarious extent. It's quite telling when you are sitting there watching your server run to another table three times to take their orders, deliver their drinks, AND deliver their food all while she has not checked up on your table even once. They ended up comping us for the octopus dish with hair in it, which is the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars and not 1. How this place has 4.5 stars is beyond me.
food was decent, not 5 star service
RATS AND MICE INFESTED FACILITY.
Rather ordinary and very expensive. The only restaurant I’ve ever patronised with a ‘manifesto.’ Pretentious or what? Not terrible, but overrated. Rapport between price and quality non-existant. At half the price, I’d be more charitable.
Great outdoor patio with a cool view, very nice service and delicious oysters
Arrived early for the 4pm cocktail hour advertised on the website only to be told that it didn't start until 4.30pm (they just hadn't got around to changing the website. One week later it remains unchanged). I ordered a full price cocktail while waiting for friends. At 4.30..now a group of 5, we had to ask for the cocktail hour menus. We ordered food and drinks from the limited menu. At 5.30 we tried to attract a server and order more drinks. When he came over he looked at his watch and told us it was 5.32pm "cocktail hour is over". I have previously enjoyed dinner at Ancora. This visit I got the impression they just didn't want customers between lunch and dinner.
Excellent location on the seawall with a great patio, tremendous servers, and a very fine happy hour that starts at 2:30.
I had such a great time on the patio here, our waitress Simona was incredible and very attentive. The kitchen does a great job with the food, the bar is a master at their drinks, and the atmosphere is lovely as well.
Beautiful patio overlooking false creek. Service was friendly and attentive.
Management is stealing the tips from the servers, when they tried to fight back and strike, everyone was fired and replaced. These guys over charge you for everything and pay their employees the least, your server is making less than minimum wage, and still gets their tips taken. Don't eat here!
Food was fabulous and equally matched the steller service provided by our Waitress!
We stopped here to have a drink. Nice place, hepful staff, good price
We had no choice but to eat from their dine out menu because they don't offer their regular menu during dine out season. Everything that came out was very underwhelming and tasteless. Why bother participating in dine out if you're going to offer such poor quality food? There is no complimentary bread or refills of tea/coffee. Also, the hours listed on their Google page are inaccurate so be careful! They don't reopen until 5pm.
We came here for a dinner event. I'm not a fish person, but I had the Halibut here and it was tasty. It was well cooked, not dry, and well seasoned. For sides we ordered the Brussels sprouts and some sushi. Sushi was good, but the Brussels sprouts were outstanding. The staff were really great as well, friendly and very helpful.
A romantic restaurant on seawall. Great chef with good food.
Amazing food and caring staff.
Great environment and amazing waterfront view if you choose to sit outside in the patio! Very friendly staff. It's worth a visit!
Great location, awesome food if you are a fish/seafood lover. Desserts and drinks were amazing, perfect place for a special occasion or treat-yourself-dinner.
Very unfriendly and bad food, overpriced!
I been to resturant alot, but the quality has dropped. The reservation is horrible, with zero common sense. I booked the resturant a week in advance with special request for the table to be in the patio. Once I arrived i was told the patio is first come first serve, so what is the point of booking the resturant when it is first come first serve! You can book to be seated inside but whoever comes first goes and seats outside ? Where is the logic in this system???
I used to work for this restaurant as a dishwasher when they had first opened. The head chef Rodrigo Valverde is known to be physically and verbally abusive with staff and would cut my hours regularly because he didnt want to pay me over 8 hours so I wouldn't be able to recieve overtime pay as I was dued. Another dishwasher I worked with regularly was called in to work on a day he wasnt supposed to (none had been scheduled for that day) after the chef begged him on the phone. When he showed up and quit Ricardo had screamed him over to the back door and grabbed him by the shirt, threw him out of the restaurant and locked the door. When I had come in to pick up my things him and his sous chef decided to have a screaming match with me right in the front of the restaurant trying to belittle me. I didnt mind because no matter how hard I try I'd never be able to stop to Ricardos level (he's 5' tall) lol. This place has great food but the environment for the workers shouldn't be one where they have to deal with a kitchen run by an absolute buffoon.
Lovely food, view, people. Just perfect.
Top shelf menu and service but quite expensive. It's a special occasion kind of place or a impress your date restaurant. Nice little spot. Don't suggest taking a car there uless you want to Valet it.
Great hidden gem at false creek. Absolutely great food and attentive staff.
Great food with great view and service. We had the pleasure to be served by Sarah, she was superb and took her time to walk us through everything on the menu. Must visit for sure and do ask for Sarah for a great service.
Last time I was at Ancora was during last year’s Dine Out Vancouver. I was still pregnant and now baby is almost 3 months old. To celebrate Motherhood and my friend’s pregnancy we decided to head over to Ancora for brunch! I love the bright open space and how roomy it is. The restaurant isn’t too loud and is perfect to bring a baby. If you are looking for a place for Brunch on this weekend, I highly recommend you try Ancora’s menu! Brunch service is only available on the weekends. WINDBERRY FARM CHICKEN AND WAFFLES 20: spiced syrup, avocado puree, house bacon and botanical greens. While we thought fried chicken and waffles would be heavy and a bit of an indulgent, this c&w was well battered and not greasy whatsoever. DUCK CONFIT CASSOULET 25: Peruvian beans with two poached eggs and kale salad. If you are looking for a more substantial entree, this one’s for your. Flavourful and gratifying. PERUVIAN STYLE PAELLA 21: black cod croquettes, chorizo, Peruvian corn, shellfish, one poached egg with paprika aioli. I love this dish and its departure from an everyday Brunch menu item. This was deliciously made with hearty wild black rice. BLUE AND GREY 12: I never say no to anything Earl Grey and Lavender especially when it’s a Earl Grey, blueberry and lavender ice cream with Earl Grey shortbread!!
Came here for my birthday. Was sat at probably the worst table in the house, Was facing the espresso machine, door and cash till. I get it, covid times, got to somehow make up for spread out table space. But for a restaurant like this, you may as well not put a table there. Server was super short with us. Everything with the server felt so rush and uncomfortable. Almost like I should feel sorry for coming. Fine dining and this type of service really killed the experience.
Great food and service! First time this year sitting inside and really got a different vibe , much more "fine dining" experience than the relaxed and equally enjoyable dining on the patio. We'll be back!
Great fresh seafood with delicious Peruvian sabor I liked the octopus causa and the Wild Mushroom Bisque (black trumpets, truffle crème fraiche). The Ancora Glacier plate is great to start and taste the menu but also very filling.
Service was top notch, we had a very knowledgeable server. The food was delicious, we particularly enjoyed the dessert course with the purple corn ice cream.
Great patio and view. Food is good too
Had a delicious meal at Ancora. We were looking to have dinner on the patio but their patio is first come first served and was full around 5pm so we got a table inside, still with nice views of False Creek. The servers were friendly and quick to take our orders although it took awhile for the drinks to come (though the dinner bread came quickly) and one of the water glasses was dirty. We started with a smoked prawn causa, which was really good - it had a tangy sauce with a perfectly cooked prawn and potato. Good combination of flavours. The main entree I ordered was the Sablefish. This came with bok choy and a squash risotto base. The sablefish was delicious, I would definitely order this again. Towards the end of the meal, the servers took awhile to attend to us, but was very nice to give us a drink on the house which was very thoughtful and considerate.
good Delicious.
All in all, a great restaurant and I will definitely come back.
Everything was perfect!
Best seafood in town in an exclusive setting by the water. Always excellent service and seasonal, creative dishes.
Excellent Peruvian-Japanese cuisine
Food and service were great
I was pleasantly surprised by the menu and wonder why this restaurant doesn't have more of a name for itself in the city. The food seamlessly incorporates Peruvian and other South American flavours into what is primarily a West Coast menu. The atmosphere is comfortable with a nice second-floor balcony that overlooks the rest of the restaurant. Service is impeccable and really complements some of the finest food in Vancouver. Would highly recommend to anyone going for a romantic dinner or a more fancy business get-together.
Fabulous experience at Ancora. Having lived in Lima Peru for 3 years, this is the first time I have tried proper nikkei cuisine outside Lima that lives up to the legendary resteraunts there. Excellent masking and physical distancing made for a safe comfortable meal. Food was superb, especially the sauce and aji flavours - octopus and sablefish were perfect. The kicker was the lovely sommelier, Adam - he found us an incredible bottle of wine which topped of a A+ experience. Service was great. All this on top of one of the best patios in Vancouver - we will be back.
A bit on the pricey side but the quality is definitely here so I didn't mind. We had some oysters and the Ancora Glacier, it was delicious.
