Very bad and unprofessional management. Simply put, the management team are lousy people who mistreat their employees. Not supporting this kind of establishment.
The perfect intimate ambience for a small group of friends. Everything from the art cocktails to appies to dessert was spot on. Friendly staff a bonus!
Stopped in for a mid afternoon break and all we could order were drinks or dessert. Possibly the labour shortage was to blame. Nice atmosphere, good service. Had a pitcher of Pims that was meant to be cucumber and mint Art Gallery elegant, but was more rum and coke garden wedding drunk uncle.
Wonderful afternoon! Great staff. Thank you ????
Enjoyed some buck-a-shuck on Happy Hour. Oysters taste super fresh and best enjoyed during winter season! Potato Croquettes were yummy. Cocktails were good. Cauliflower was a bit undercooked. Our server Daniel was kind and attentive. Will come back because not a lot of restaurants do actual $1 for an oyster and want to try the other items on Happy Hour!
A charming place with great food and a sizeable patio. Service was a bit slow when we were there for lunch, but it won't stop us from going again. ????
Wonderful place to sit and enjoy a drink and snacks in downtown when the weather is nice. Lots of gorgeous patio seating. Service perfect.
Went for coffee , snacks were delicious, service and ambience was good.
(Translated) very good place (Original) Muy buen lugar
$1 Happy hour oysters, croquettes, and appetizers are amazing! Staff are wonderful too. Love their outdoor patio and can't help coming back over & over again.
(Translated) Satisfying garden dinner~ With the singing of little sparrows, but the little sparrows will suddenly pierce right and left, flying around to frighten you, and the nuisance of the little bees constantly drinking ????, the strange wine is too sweet, Risling Served with fig and goat cheese salad Honey Fig Chèvre Salad, this salad is comparable to high-end restaurants, Thai red curry flounder with Soba, Halibut is fried crispy on the outside and freshly cooked on the inside, red curry is full of herbs and layers, Sala Thai has It hasn’t been this level for a long time. The most clear thing is the last sprinkled lemongrass. After the epidemic, I haven’t eaten a meal cooked by a qualified chef for a long time. When I went to the bathroom, I didn’t forget to take a peek at the kitchen. Bright, I admire their good cooking skills. There are two young ladies in the kitchen, but they are full of cooking skills. The whole meal style is connected to the garden as the theme. From the taste to the shape, it is never sloppy. The entire restaurant is well-ventilated, social distance is very sufficient, the station is arranged so little, and you can eat at ease. It is rare that you will not be bitten by a mosquito at night, and will continue to come again. This was one of the worst service and food experiences that I have had down here in Vancouver. The service was absolutely terrible, our drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive, our server left dirty plates on the table long after they were finished, our actual dinner took over an hour to come out, and to top it off the food was extremely disappointing. Way over priced for the quality of food it was. The only nice thing about this place was the outdoor patio set up. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
Cool place
Nice atmosphere, excellent service. One of the places you have to try. Seafood chowder, oyster, duck fat potato are the must try items. The house wine is good. They offer all wines 50% off now. Duck breast is a bit overcooked, stable fish is a bit too salty. Fore Gras pata is a bit hard. Overall dinning experience is good.
Wonderful atmosphere and highly recommended for a high tea experience. All the items were so high quality and delicious. The tea is also great! Good date idea
What a rude server.
Good price on happy hour. Oysters served on these cold rocks looks cool but oysters were warm vs if they were left on crushed ice.
(Translated) Good environment, good food, good service, five stars! (Original) 環境好,食物好,服務好,五星!
Nice atmosphere and tasty food. Portions are a bit small though. Do you’ll need to spend a lot of you have an appetite.
Pretty setting
I wanted the cauliflower deep fried more
We made a reservation for the patio three days in advance. We then got a reservation cancellation, via email, with no explanation. I called the restaurant manager; he decided to cancel my reservation for first come first serve. New Covid restrictions came into force at midnight, only allowing patio seating. The manager and possibly the owner doesn't have any experience in customer relations. Only common sense will tell you to keep your promises with customers. My friends, family and I will never eat there again. In the current environment, this isn't much of a loss, there are a lot of great restaurants in Vancouver. This one is for the older people who don't know how to move onto to better places. I believe the word is, passé.
Came here with a wedding party after a rehearsal on a weekday night. Server was friendly and attentive, but I think they were a bit short-staffed that evening because the food arriving on the table was a bit late. I can see this bistro being better if you come with a smaller group of people who you can talk to for a while, while enjoying a drink and not worrying about the food coming late. To be fair, they did bring all the food out in one big go (we had shared plates such as sliders, tacos, crispy cauliflower, etc), so maybe they thought everyone could to eat at the same time. The front of house checked IDs and vaccine cards, so I felt good they take public health seriously.
They have buy one, get one free entrees on Tuesday. Nicely plated food. Friendly service.
Came here for hightea at weekend, enjoyable experience with great service and nice dishes.
If I could give them 0 stars I would. Over 1/2 hr waiting on a table and no attention at all.
Great food, food was serve fast and at the right temperature. Waiter always checking to see if we need anything, definitely going to come back!!!
This place discriminates against poc, do not recommend eating here. Brought our concerns to the manager and he disregarded our concerns completely. Terrible experience, did not feel welcomed here at all.
What a rude server. Food was okay.
I've been here a couple times for happy hour on the patio which is gorgeous when the sun is out. The potato croquettes are a must have! I've also tried the lunchtime bowls - chicken and cauliflower. Both were beautifully presented and the portion sizes are generous. And its super great that there are gluten free and vegan options on the menu so don't miss out on the carrot cake!
Superb food and friendly service:) highly recommended!
I can't believe I never knew about this hidden gem. My friend brought me here, I never knew there's such a minimalism restaurant in Vancouver Art Gallery; they are quite new, in business for a year now. We went for dinner, as I walked in I was loving the atmosphere already. We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees, everything was amazing from plating to taste; the foie gras surprised me the most, normally I can only eat seared four gras, but this one man, you guys have to try it. Also the bartender really knows what he's upto, I told him what taste I enjoy and he made me something off menu that's 100% on point. I'll come back again for brunch and take some good ig photos on the patio.
Transformed space. We have eaten in this space many times when it was a very nice self service restaurant. The self service section is now the bar. It is all sit down with table service. My Halloumi salad was delicious. Roasted vegetables, beans, Chimichurri, and raisins with halloumi cheese. Quite a fusion. I had mine with a fillet of salmon. Paired it all with a fabulous Black Lemonade—blackberries, lemon, and thyme. The whole experience is recommended, doubly so in the summer when you can be on the patio.
Food is ok, service is excellent. I enjoyed the vibe more than I enjoyed the food.
Good food good patio
Where should I start? Today I met my friend at the venue. This was the first time I visited since the rebirth of the Cafe as 1931 Gallery Bistro. I was surprised to see very few people, as in the past the cafe was always buzzing with people. A nice hostess by the name of Carol from Brazil greeted me. She said the kitchen was closing at 3pm meaning I had little time to order (it was 2:50pm) I said I would come to the counter to order when ready, yet she informed me that ordering was now "a la carte." I told her that I was expecting a friend and wanted to wait a bit. She was amenable. Shortly after a tall, robust man came to me. He said the cafe was closing and I had to order. Feeling pressured, I opted to order on behalf of my friend. Oh my! Prices are heft expensive. I assumed food must be gourmet. I ordered a tea and two deserts, each $18/$15. I asked the man to put two tea bags as I like my tea strong. He said I would have to pay another $4.00 for the extra bag. Feeling uneasy, I said "it is ridiculous" and canceled my request. When my friend arrived the carrot cake was at the table together with the tea. The tea water was not hot, but I opted to let it go. I asked the man for a knife to split the cake into two. He brought plates to do that. The cake was nicely presented, but the taste was off-putting for both myself and my friend. I hardly tasted like a carrot cake but we couldn't be bothered to complain. Shortly before 4:00pm (closing time), the man brought the bill. My friend immediately told him that the cake was very bad and that she preferred the cafe food before. She said she would not come back. I echoed the same. He sarcastically said "he would pass this on." His attitude was far from welcoming. His attitude was truly irritating for my friend and I. I then stated that he was "rude." Have a guess what what he answered? "It is you who are rude." He said I yelled at him which isn't me at all. He added... "please leave the restaurant now." I later asked Carol who he was. She said his name is Mark, and he is the manager. I can't believe how such a person could be hired by a reputable landmark such as the Art Gallery. He has no place in customer service, let alone in a high-class venue. Very disappointed, will never come back.
The carrot cake was delicious.I enjoyed sitting in patio but it was straight up to my face due to covid reasons they didn’t let you change seats, but they should have put an umbrella for sun protection. You could scan the code and see the menu on your phone. It is very convenient way for covid protection. The service was great.
I have been to this restaurant for many years for my lunch break and have always had a nice experience but i had an awful experience today! I had small gathering with two of my friends and our server was super rude! It took 20 minutes for his to bring us water and then after the food came one of them was missing. He told us that it was not ready yet but it seemed like he had forgotten to give the order. After that meal came our food was cold and our bills were also all wrong. At the very end we said that the service was not very good since he never checked on our table once. He called my friends and I rude for complaining about the bad service. After asking to talk to the manager He said that he was the manager and continued to be rude to us. I am not going back there anymore.
Great food, great service and great environment! Love coming here for lunch especially on a sunny day in the patio!
Visited after a rainy afternoon at the Gallery. Bartender was attentive and friendly, even making drink recos. Returned a couple days later to check out the patio and wasn't disappointed. Server, food and drinks were great! Highly recommend.
Delicious. Tarts, bennys and cocktails are all great. Lovely chill spot in the middle of town.
Nice staff. Menu is very average. Food is average. There was a rat in the shop.
Good for happy hour
Fantastic rooftop patio in the heart of downtown Vancouver! Great atmosphere with bench seats & heaters. The food was delicious too. Try the mushroom soup!!
Hands down one of the best experiences I've had so far. Kamran and his staff were all super friendly and attentive. The food and view was amazing too. Everything about the place was perfect. If you are thinking of going there.. GO!!!!!!!!!
Food was absolutely amazing. On the pricier side but you get what you pay for. Service was friendly too
Dinner
The environment was nice, but the food was honestly really unenjoyable. I didn't finish most of my food. Avoid the banana loaf french toast and fruit bowl.
Great experience. Friendly service. Go for the happy hour oysters!
Nice little place with great food and, importantly, very accommodating staff. Special thank you to Kamran.
I love 1931 Gallery Bistro! I came in for brunch a week ago and had a delectable Eggs Benedict. They have a wide range of delicious food options, beautiful coffee, and lovely attentive staff! I'll definitely be back and certainly recommend you check it out!
Beautiful space, but unfortunately, I was very disappointed in the restaurant's policy regarding COVID. Why on earth is everyone wearing gloves but not donning masks? As I sat there for 2 hours during happy hour, I watched the wait staff wear the SAME pair of gloves to do ALL their tasks. This included serving customers food/drink, cleaning the tables, taking payment. #1 rule is to WASH YOUR HANDS! Not sure how they missed the memo. In addition, they "lost" my reservation and when I ordered a gin and tonic, I got tequila and tonic. Definitely didn't feel safe and definitely NOT going back.
The date cake French toast is gluten free and was truly delicious. My partner had the kale Caesar and also love it. Bright beautiful space. For wheelchair accessible entrance, ask for the escort from the lobby of museum.
Service
I got the eggs Benedict. It was good, nothing impressive. The English muffin was really tough, it was hard to cut without scattering everything on my plate. Disappointed in the bread basket. I was hoping for some nice artisan bread, but instead got bread similar to grocery store bread (like wonder bread). The croissant was lovely, one of the best I've had. The overall experience was pleasant, I did enjoy my meal.
Great food in a great location. Definitely go back for more!
Perfect! August 01 - a Sunday at 11:30am. Two person, reserved from open tables app and can just reserve for inside but there was still table available outside, the receptionist asked us if we’d like to sit outside, because of hot weather we chose stay inside but I guess A/C wasn’t strong enough tho(?). And she told us we have 90min.. Service is perfect and about food details followed: - Avocado Toast looks pretty but is a little bit dry. - Egg Benedict Crab is good and I liked the way they cooked with potato, not dry at all; The salad is also tasty not like just salad, every single salad is tasty which is amazing; - Dessert tasting platters, each one are too sweet for us except carrot cake. - Cappuccino is good. Generally is a good experience.
Vancouver Art Gallery on Robson square, nice west coast menu selection, what could be off? We were the only guests, the room felt of an American gift shop/coffee shop rather than a bistro. Our server wore jeans and many facial piercings, but was polite and responsive. Oysters, sable fish and beef all pleasently presented, and quite nice.
I went there twice for brunch so far, had a great time in both! Good people, great food!
New ownership and very impressed. Not cafeteria style anymore. Sit down with menu. 2nd time here and both dishes very good. Nice quiet place above the Vancouver Art Gallery, with plenty of outdoor patio seating.
Was here for brunch w some friends and was pleasantly surprised. Food was great, ambiance was good, and staff was very friendly. I had the special Italian ham eggs benedict and it was pretty good. We shared the charcuterie and apple galette and they were good as well. Would definitely come here again w friends and family.
I don't know why this place is so underrated, I had a delicious meal for a totally reasonable price and a very pleasant waitress and staff experience. Will come back!
Lovely interior and friendly service. Not many vegan options but 2 they had were good.
I ordered brunch with duck eggs. Best brunch ever delivered to my door!! So much food, I could only eat half. I put the 2nd duck Benny in the fridge..9 hours later, warmed up the Benny and the duck egg was still awesome!!
If you're visiting the Vancouver Art Gallery, be sure to stop by the restaurant.
Came here for happy hour at about 4:30 PM and really enjoyed it. The food was great, service was good and cost was very reasonable. Patio was beautiful. Favorites include the tacos and the miso cauliflower. I don't enjoy oysters but my husband seemed to really enjoy them as he got 2 whole dozens all for himself. I would recommend booking a reservation in advance because by the time we left at about 5:30 PM, there was a line up. Would not hesitate to return again.
This place is amazing, I have visited for dinner, lunch and brunch and is all so good!!! Service is perfect and they are lovely. Everything in the menu is delicious!! Is 100% worth it!!
Best kept secret ???? Great patio brunch with nice atmosphere - feels like an oasis. Don’t miss out on the smoked salmon benny and Croissant with apricot jam ????
Love the food and drinks , Good service , will go back agin ;)
I made a reservation for 7 pm. At 6:45 pm they made a call saying that we can only stay up to 8 pm because of another event. This call should have been made much earlier. Furthermore, after I complained about this matter , the response could have been much nicer and not end with : " I do not want to argue, have a good night" !!!!!!!
Beautiful interior and great dining experience! Loved dining inside the Vancouver Art museum. They have a good deal of buy one get one on Monday’s. However, the food was was very salty, and the steaks were not good. We ordered three ribeye steaks and they were all very tough with tendon inside ;n;.
Amazing and spacious patio! Food was excellent along with the service, better than most places in Vancouver.
We had our team event at the Gallery Bistro with 16 teenage boys and 25+ parents. Everyone commented how delicious the food (appy's to desserts) was, the service always challaging with a large group was no problem everything came out with ease. Cant wait to go back, thank you for a very enjoyable evening.
Both times I’ve been to 1931 the last 5 days. There has not been someone to welcome me at the door. It took 5 minutes to get water on the patio both times (should happen within a minute). First visit i was ignored because i was alone at my table, and it was happy hour - still no excuse. Second visit my My eggs Benedict was purely cold. The waiter (or bus boy- not clear on who it was) forgot to come back and get my drink (latte) order, after I specifically said please come back in two minutes. I watched three people walk out. Because they stood at gate waiting for a hostess too long. For the prices they charge here you’d expect 5 star. Especially since it’s at the gallery. Oh! And also, I sat on patio and watched a homeless man with his bag of cans fully walk into the restaurant and out. And no one seeing or saying nothing. NOT* a five star experience in the least. If someone was outside on patio at all times at gate, this would not happen. Was excited to visit because I heard about the patio. But it needs a lot of of improvement. Don’t have a patio that large if you can run it properly. They did very quickly apologize for everything and took care of my bill. So I will may try and give it another shot someday. I’m not one to speak up unless something is really bad. So I did feel bad. But hopefully the feedback will help them in the future.
Friendly welcoming staff, great food! we had smoked salmon egg bennies and halloumi gallette. They were flavorful, complex. Definitely seemed like the focus was very much on food and its balance. We will definitely go back again to try other things on the menu. Oh, and those perfect hashbrown cubes! The patio was still open when we went, but indoor space is nice, bright and well spaced.
perfect brunch place
Great cocktails with innovative spins on the classics with fun art inspired names. My favourite is La Frida Margarita followed closely by Banksy in the Bramble. I’ve only been for happy hour and found the selection good, not great. The patio is lovely on a sunny day, and happy hour is busy in the summer (especially during covid). As a result of its popularity the service was often slow… noticed this on several occasions. The music was very loud and made it hard to talk when seated near the speakers.
The food was very good. The service was average. I took my wife there for our wedding anniversary and this was inserted in my table reservation asking for one of the best tables. I was expecting to receive a note from them on the table or at least “happy anniversary” from the staff. However, this was not done. Therefore, a fair score would be 4/5. Highly recommend this place for casual occasions but not for special occasions.
Hard to judge from just a cocktail and cheese plate but it was ok. Had ice in the sour which was weird, and the cheese plate had orange cheddar. Still, very nice staff and decent reno compared to the old place.
Dine out experience. The salmon and tuna Appy, duck main was delicious.
This is truly the best summer patio in the city. I just wish they had kept the open public vision that was a part of the original cafe here. Affordable lunches and drinks in the middle of the luxury centre of Vancouver. The food is great. Just pricing more of the community out of this beautiful public square.
Delicious food, beautiful plating, very modern and elegant interior in the art gallery, good price, friendly staff. This is my favorite restaurant for so many reasons. And their buck a shuck oyster on happy hour is always a great choice!
The food quite good but the service is lacking. I'd recommend for appetizers and a quick drink but there's better places in the area.
I would recommend the happy hour!
Came here for a catch up with a friend. The place was great. it has a chill atmosphere that helps you unwind after a busy day. Food was great as well, not that many option, but the ones they served are delicious. Frankly speaking, too much options can be overwhelming sometimes.. stayed pretty much till the place closed. had to wrestle my friend on who pay the bill (which I won - very asian of me); and paying for two didn’t cost me an arm. Overall, a happy customer.
Salad didn't taste very good.. how can u go wrong with a halloumi salad. The energy of the food was also blah... and just the energy of the space in general. It makes sense why during lunch hour there were only a handful of people there.. it didn't feel very welcoming... the energy was off.. I don't know if I'll eat there again. I only had 1 bite of my salad and returned it. It's too bad because it USED TO BE a beautiful space.. they even took out most of the garden ????
Cute little dining area in the art gallery. The afternoon tea special was had a tasty variety of savoury and sweet items. Some standout items included the steak and the kimchi.
Delicious food, great atmosphere.
Service and ambience was great and inviting. However, food wasn't that great. I ordered off the Dine out Vancouver menu and food wasn't worth the price. Most of it was cold and kind of bland. All in all, food just didn't slap.
service was good , nice quiet place for dineout , food was just ok. They only have dineout menu.
The atmosphere and the service was wonderful. Lots of healthy and delicious dishes to choose from!
This place is great! I had a delicious Eggs Benedit, a perfect done Mocha, and also tried the Chia pudding. Everything was really good. The staff is helpful and friendly.
Amazing food and very nice place.
Best Kept Secret...shhhhhhh
surprisingly affordable happy hour. They have really nice plates and the snacks were really nice. cozy atmosphere. apparently there's dollar oysters on friday nights but they were sold out when we went ):
Food was great for the price and the restaurant had a really nice vibe.
One of the tastiest sandwiches I've ever had! Crunchy, chewy bread, delicious cheese and fillings, and the malted hot chocolate was fantastic too
Arrived at 2:00pm on Wednesday July 7, 2021. Please note there were maybe five tables with people sat. I sat down and waited 10 minutes for a server to come and ask me what I wanted to drink. The drink arrived just under 15 minutes later. Was supposed to be a lavender lemonade, which did not taste anything like lavender. I then had to try to flag a server down to tell them about this. I was then brought lavender syrup. The lemonade still did not taste anything like lavender after adding the syrup.. I just gave up. I then ordered food. I finally got my food 30 minutes later, and by this point I asked for my bill and the machine to pay as an hour had lapsed and I had eat quickly and go back to work. Slow and inattentive service. Nothing happens quickly and the staff mostly wander around aimlessly. For the price they charge, give this place a miss. There are far better restaurants in this city where you can get attentive serving staff and great food and not wait endlessly for food and drinks where the place is basically empty.
This is my first time dining at 1931 Gallery Bistro. I had a such great time. First of all, there is not many roof top restaurant in Vancouver, beside "Reflection", 1931 will be def my summer brunch and cafe to go place. Lots sunlight when the weather is good and right now the restaurant even offers more varieties of beverages. Secondly, the service is great. The place is not very big and it's easy to get busy and crowded. However, people who work there managed to create this very smooth service flow. I got my water filled all the time and multiple check about the food even during their busy lunch time. Plus something on my personal note: I really like their clean and neat uniform. Thirdly, let's talk about the food. Since I had brunch there, I really enjoyed my confit duck egg benedict. The amount of duck meat is just right for me. I actually had half of the benedict left over. Also me and my friends really love the plating. Last not the least, the price of the brunch and the dinner are extremely affordable at their level. I was quite surprise when I saw the price. (No food is over $30 from their dinner menu.) WOW. I understand the restaurant is still under soft opening and there are places and spots to be developed further. I just hope they can do something related with Vancouver Art Gallery after all it's part of it now. I will definitely go back with my mom and friends. Also the patio will be so good for events and press release as I work in the show biz. I am so excited finally there is one more place to go with beautiful roof patio, great service and nice affordable food at downtown. Great Jobs Vancouver Art Gallery!
We came in for an impromptu happy hour and ended up ordering a bottle of sparkling wine and oysters. The daily specials are great value and the service and friendly and welcoming. I can't say enough about our server Chloe - she treated us well and made the experience that much more enjoyable. We plan to come back for dinner as the menu has elevated quite a bit compared to the previous iteration of the cafe. Lovely atmosphere as well.
We are looking for a place at downtown with decent food, great service and a functional patio with good views for event and media press. "1931 Gallery Bistro" definitely got us interested and excited. Looking forward to work with them.
Very good, worth trying.
We got takeout from 1931 on the 28th of December and were seriously impressed! The food was fresh, delicious and so nicely packaged (very much appreciated the …
Top
casual and comfortable place worth to stay in a while for a meal.
Although the food was good, service was unwelcoming and rude. My friend and I were seated in the lounge area on the couches and with her shoes off, she sat cross legged on the couch. Our server approached and treated her like a child telling her to put her feet down. When we spoke to the manager to give feedback about how this experience made us feel, they were dismissive and ignorant and made my friend feel worse. Definitely not recommend if the experience is important for you.
Bad service
NOT worth what we paid for! Food was ok but the waiter never came around to see how we were doing as we had to wave down another server just for more water. The patio is a beautiful spot for drinks,it's just too bad the service doesn't match up
A regular spot for me and my friends; we had salmon risotto, Fraser valley duck and braised beef shortrib - all cooked excellently; great service from our waiter also; after dinner we were going to move on to another spot - but we enjoyed the vibe so much on the patio we stayed for several more hours drinking and snaking!
Super location!!!
A lovely quiet space to dine downtown. It's a bit overpriced and the portions are tiny.
The patio is great, food very tasty. The service was not great, poorly managed seating, and took twenty minutes for a server to come after we asked. Slow service overall as well. Overall given everything I would still come back
Delicious! Love stopping here for happy hour. The oysters are just divine!
Absolutely love the new high tea set at 1931 Bistro. Each small dish has its own unique taste especially their salty session is definitely the highlight. We finished everything. Will for sure come back.
Cool little space above the Vancouver Art Gallery, with good food and good drink options. The patio, though closed, would be an awesome place to chill in good weather and post restrictions.
Lovely brunch experience at this bistro. We were in the patio with a beautiful view and plenty of space which made it feel safe during COVID times. Had the duck bennies and they were amazing, would definitely recommend them. Our server was Craig and he was great!!
Our family decided to visit 1931 Gallery Bistro for DOV. We loved the food and our server was super kind and friendly! The food was excellent. Even my 12 year old son ordered from the DOV menu and really enjoyed his dishes! My daughter ordered off the kids menu and even the grilled cheese sandwich was really good, not what you'd routinely see in a kids meal. We'll be back for sure! I can't wait until the weather is nicer because their patio looks lovely! Another thing I love is that proceeds from the restaurant go to the Vancouver Art Gallery! Thanks for the great dining experience!
(Translated) It was my first visit to the restaurant, but the food was great and the coffee taste was good. The patio is large, so you can eat safely :) (Original) 리오픈하고 처음 방문이었는데 음식도 훌륭하고 커피맛도 좋았다.파티오도 넓어서 안전하게 식사할수 있는곳:)
Ordered food via door dash. The restaurant accepted. Then the restaurant cancelled the order 1.5 hours to cancel the order. No explanation. Nothing. Can't comment on the food because I never received it. But my suggestion is not to order from them because they think it's reasonable to accept an order and then a cancel 1.5 hours later. Imagine if you went to a restaurant, they seated you, you ordered, they kept telling you your order was coming and then suddenly they come to your table and say sorry we're not making your order please leave. LOL. Won't be trying this restaurant in person either now.
Great disappointment after many months of renovation. The place is definitely downgraded to a school cafeteria from a cozy warm and inviting athmosphere. The location of the place is perfect so tourists will probably come anyway but dont think I will come here as a local anymore. Sorry to have lost a wondetful venue...
The happy hour menu didn't have many options for food or drinks. The food we ordered off the menu was good. The signature Caesar was one of the worst I've had. The mix was watered down and the brim salt was not good. The service was good overall and helpful.
Food was phenomenal, we had starters, main and desert everything was made with love, please don't miss out on this place ❤️
Me and my partner went to 1931 Bistro last night and had a wonderful evening in this new, hip, warm space. We had a few glasses of wine and the duck gallet, it was super delicious. Highly recommend!!
Waited 15 minutes and did not even recieve a glass of water. Worst service in this city.
Great service from Marc! Thank you for the great dinner!
Ok drinks, nice place, nice wine selection and great happy hour place for 1$ oysters , wine and beer. Courteous and friendly staff.
Everything was really tasty and the service was attentive. Great patio too!!
superb
We went to 1931 bistro at the Vancouver Art Gallery and our overall feedback is that the place is okay. It was their fourth or fifth day of running business so understandably they are still trying to figure things out but below is our first impressions so far. As soon as you walk in the place you feel the place is very well designed. From the materials, logo, branding and just the detailing- it’s refined yet casual. The reason this places looses three stars is for 1) Coordination and 2) Food. 1) Coordination: You can either order at the entrance or later at the bar. For first timers that’s confusing because we don’t know if we should order right there or go to the bar to check out the pastry first. So half of the group I was with went and ordered at the bar and I was ordering by the door. I think they should straighten out the greeting process and then direct you to the bar for ordering. 2) Food - We ordered coffee and the smoked salmon salad which are pretty straight forward orders. The salad came with very little salmon and primarily big chunks of potatoes. It’s more of a potato salad than a smoked salmon salad. The salad was quite bland and needed more seasoning. The americano coffee wasn’t hot enough . Nor was our order of the side “heated” milk hot enough.
One of the best patio spaces in the city and brunch served until 3 pm.
Great place to dine in delicious food
Amazing service and great brunch selection.
I have supported this restaurant many times through the pandemic when dine in was not permitted. However I now have had 2 deliveries canceled at the last minute, possibly due to dine in over capacity. Although the food is always exceptional with a good menu I will not order again
Nice place, especially if you are a fan of patio. Excellent services and tasty treats.
Why on earth did they change the restaurant concept?? What used to be a chic, casual, buzzy place with great food, drinks and desserts is now a faceless "Yaletown" type place with average everything. The food was OK, not bad (2 nearby tables were having issues with their orders though). The service staff seemed confused, overwhelmed despite having only 5 or tables going for 4 staff. None of its former incarnation's atmosphere left at all. Plus they charge you an automatic 15% tip which they don't mention until you get your bill. Weird and not cool. The French waitress I had was very nice though. Totally different from what it once was, sorry wouldn't go back. This should be an elevated, interesting place to go as it is attached to the Art Gallery!
Had the sablefish dish from the Dine out Vancouver menu and thought it was amazing. It was cooked perfectly, well done!
I really like that place and I’ve been there multiple times now. The food is really good with an original touch. The patio is such a nice place to hang out and the staff is very nice and very careful with distancing and everything. Desserts are the best! Will go again.
Had a fantastic experience on the patio. Food was tasty, cocktails were great, and the setting made it even more enjoyable. Great spot for relaxed hangout with partner or friends. The environment felt fun but was still able to have a very intimate evening. Would definitely go back! Just wish they somehow incorporated more art into the theme of the place.
Great food, great service and great views :)
Really enjoyed it.

Came at 4:20 and basically got ignored. Took a long time at the door and then when I finally got a spot outside and the server came I was then told they had last called outside but I could grab a drink if I made it fast. I told the person …
Food was delicious, server was excellent. Prompt, friendly service, and great recommendations. The pork loin was great - perfect comfort food. Chocolate mousse and creme brulée were both outstanding! Side note: it was great that our server was an art school grad who knew a lot about the exhibits at the gallery - it meant a lot to have a good conversation about art while there!
Thank you for amazing service. Server Khaun(not sure if I’m saying his name right or wrong) he was so good and amazing, he went out of his way to make us feel special. Food was so good and mouth watering .. fragua dish was so good, pork belly and eggplant dish .. my kids also enjoyed it too. Everything was amazing, drinks to dessert ! Big Thank you and will be revisiting again on weekends for appetizers and drinks ! I will definitely review your bistro 5/5.
Like many Vancouverites, I miss the old Gallery Cafe, which was one of the best venues for a casual business lunch in town. Fortunately its upscale replacement, 1931 Gallery Bistro, didn’t make the mistake of going *too* far upscale. The new menu is more expensive but still decent value. And they still have the best patio in the city, a gorgeous south-facing pad with a wide-open view across Robson Square. Definitely a go-to place for residents and tourists alike.
Great charcuterie plate and wine!
SO good! If I could give this 6 stars I would! Beautiful patio and yummy food. Highly recommend for a hidden gem right downtown.
Very disappointing charcuterie board. Definitely didn’t warrant the price. There was so little meat and cheese. They cheaped out.
Nicely spaced out, safe with staff masked and distant. Great variety of food!
Amazing service! Food quality and flavor was top notch! Not to mention great atmosphere. Highly recommend visiting.
Very clean, the food was delicious and the staff were super helpful and courteous! Will be returning for sure!
I don‘t often rate restaurants, but this restaurant gave me the best patio experience ever. I first noticed this restaurant from Instagram and I really love the environment. The food there really amazed me, I give 10stars for the food ❤️❤️. I recommend the steak and the ruby hummus. Really love them. And the servers are really all very nice, so a solid five stars for this restaurant.
Great staff at the art gallery
Rude waitress. I asked to sit somewhere near a plug since i would be working on my laptop. The waitress takes me inside to the smallest table possible. I asked if there were any larger tables near a plug but she says no. I sit down and see that my computer is fully charged so I asked to sit outsid instead. The waitress refused, stating something about a COVID policy. How am I supposed to eat where there isbarely any space for my laptop. Did not order and left as the waitress was acting quite rudely the whole time, as if she had done me a huge favor by finding a plug.
Chose the only sunny day in a while to check out the outdoor patio. First time visiting and it's fantastic! The service, food and coffee were all amazing. Got the croque madame and a latte with shot of lavender - delicious. Will be visiting again.
bad service. i had a reservation for indoor seating during happy hour. there was a lice band outside so i changed my mind and kindly asked the server if we could sit outside instead. the server rejected me and told me it would be a 40mins wait. but then as we walked in i saw an empty table on the patio. so i asked another server if we could sit outside. (both servers mentioned the patio seating is first come first serve but there were no customers at the table nor there were people waiting outside) then the other server told me it would be a 45mins wait and i'll have to go out to wait. by the point i already give up sitting outside and started to order. then when i ordered a third server told me they ran out of oyster (yes, during happy hour, and without telling customers ahead of time). THEN we decided to leave. and guess what, we saw the first server who greeted us in gave the table to 2 ladies who were originally sitting inside. saw some other bad reviews about discrimination toward chinese ppl. maybe that's why i got such bad services.
These eggs bennys were delicious especially the beef short rib.
Extremely impressed by our brunch on the patio the other day. The five spice duck eggs benedict was a highlight. Great coffee and pastries too. This will be a underrated gem during the pandemic when outside dining should be prioritized. Service was good though not great.
My husband and I celebrated his 63rd birthday at the 1931 Gallery Bistro, we have only eaten out twice since March 2020, both times there. We felt very comfortable due to the well spaced tables, the staff were very conscious of social distance and mask wearing. They went above and beyond to make it a very special night, beautiful atmosphere, fantastic staff and wonderful food, including a personalized beautiful Chocolate Ganache cake. I highly recommend the Salmon.
Dine in
Nice atmosphere! Good food, awkward staff.
I have high expectations and this place delivered! The dishes were super creative and cooked perfectly. Loved the Octopus and surprised how good my La Frida Margarita was! I enjoyed my experience and will be back.
This is an elegant bistro with extraordinarily good service, great happy offerings, a good selection of starters and entrees and delicious desserts, especially the crime brûlée. Nice to have table service instead of having to balance a tray in a long line-up! Thank you!
We were seated on a sofa with a small coffee table barely off the ground. I requested a different seating because I immediately knew that eating would be difficult. When asked to moved to a table where a couple was leaving the waiter replied, "Well we have 5 other groups on the waitlist so I don't think so but I can ask". Never got back to me so after 20 minutes we ordered food. I never went to a restaurant where they could not accommodate a different seating request. It was the most awkward eating experience I ever had as we had to overbend and very uncomfortable to eat our food. Had to lean forward and carefully lift my food the entire time, didn't even bother trying with the Eggs bene or salad. After 15 minutes I asked the waiter to pack my food and we left as it was ridiculous. Even the waiter could see this but he didn't say anything. Patio aesthetics and food were good, just the staff and lack of care ruined the entire experience. Extremely disappointing for a downtown restaurant, especially with so many other choices to choose from not too far away. Won't be coming back and if you get this awkward sofa seat to be adamant in moving to a different table.
The food was amazing!!! The service was fantastic!! Super friendly!!!! Can’t wait to going back again!!
One of the best meals I’ve had in years. Worth checking out! Good flavours and interesting techniques. Solid meal
I ordered the potato croquettes , what I got was potatoes that tasted worst then a hash brown from mcdonalds. Looked nothing like the photo of the food as well and definitely I had no truffle mayo or jalepenos
Great food and reasonable prices!
What a pleasant surprise I truly enjoyed the food, fresh oysters, the price and the service was amazing Joanna thank you!! Your smile came through your mask ???? Kam thank you for checking up on us you are doing an awesome job with your staff... Can't wait to go back ❤️
Ate (brunch) today for the first time in the new Bistro. I think the new open atmosphere and less crowded seating is great and the decor beautiful, however it was very noisy in the space, which made conversation across the table difficult. I was also disappointed in the food, or lack thereof. I ordered the spinach and feta quiche which came with a side salad. Though the quiche was tasty, i was brought the wrong quiche (duck I think) and the side salad had 4 leaves of baby lettuce...such a small serving for $13 (especially compared to the good- sized portions we used to get here). The server was attentive though and my Americano was ok. My husband's eggs Benedict were good, though the cold shrimp salad under the Hollandaise sauce seemed a mismatch. The food trucks outside might have been a better choice. Too bad as we loved the old restaurant.
Great location and nice patio. Can't wait to return!
Go for the ambience not the food. One of the best patios in the city though id have to say
Worst and ugliest Matcha latte I ever had, I also ordered it hot but it was not hot at all. I was waiting for the food over 30 min and the Resturant was not even busy. The food was good and server was really nice
Like a piece of heaven. Love this place. Best patio. Great wine and delicious foods. Really delicious oysters. It’s a hidden gem.
Great happy hour
We went here for Dine Out Vancouver to celebrate my daughters birthday. We had a great time and the food was amazing. I loved the Steak and Mushroom appetizer and the crab risotto was so delicious. We will definitely be back to share with friends.
Terrible food and service
