Good service and nice decor. There is also an option to sit on seiza style on tatami flooring. A bit on the pricy side but the sushi is fresh. Good place to go to for lunch.

We ate here regularly for many years, but the menu has changed and is now very limited, expensive, and no better than the average sushi place. We were so disappointed and won’t be back.

Loved their fresh seafood despite being takeout. We got the Hokkai Don which comes with scallop, ikura and crab meat. It was a nice mix of seafood on a bed of rice. With great food even for takeout, dine-in must be even better. Can't wait to try their food in the restaurant.

Ro Durocher

Totally underwhelming experience and way way way way way overpriced. Yes, the quality of the fish is amazing, and some fish you can't get elsewhere, but the service was terrible, and when celebrating an engagement.... They bring a happy birthday dessert at the end, of some bland green tea ice-cream. Pretty much sums up the experience.

We stopped in for a late lunch just before they closed at 2. Despite arriving at an awkward time, the food and the service were excellent. The sashimi sampler was a great way to start and the avocado salad was delicious (get the large size, you won't regret it). We also had the lamb chops and the scallops. Both were perfectly prepared and presented beautifully. When we have the opportunity, we're looking forward to returning for dinner.

We came here because the fish looked fresh and we wanted sea urchin. We were only told 20 minutes after ordering that they didn’t have any. Disappointing. Everything was well presented and tasty, but the service was awful. Dishes took over half an hour to come which was insanely slow for the amount of food we ordered. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all either. Server wasn’t enthusiastic nor attentive. It took us about 20 minutes just to get her attention so we could pay.

Very good sushi but the dinner prices really seem over the top. Maybe a sign of the times but wow.

Been ordering their bento boxes for the past couple of week. Absolutely love it. Good portion, reasonable price, delicious food.

????????Garden salad with creamy ginger dressing(ginger, soy sauce &vinegar☞best salad dressing ever!) ????????Agedashi tofu (so good! I mean it's hard to make this dish taste bad.. The broth is so bomb) ◇Chawanmushi ????????Tempura (This one is a big NO NO.. Too greasy to swallow) ◇Unagi (Too sweet & fatty) ◇Sashimi moriawase (Won't order again) ????????Botan ebi (So bomb! They will ask you if you wanna have the shrimp head deep fried. Of course we did! Crunchier and ceispiee than chips!! ) ????????Fried shrimp head from botan ebi leftover (Best dish tonight) ◇Green tea creme brûlée ◇sashimi sampler ????????local uni(heavenly! Too bad I ate some before I remembered to take a picture) Five star for service! The waitress was so helpful with our questions. She explained salad dressing, house special soy sauce and wasabi. We didn't want rice so they gave us salads instead. Next time I will not go for sashimi platter or tempura. I rather order specific sashimi.

All the waitresses there wear kimonos. The service is great. The price is a bit high but the quality of the food is very good. I had Robata Special B (grilled salmon belly) for lunch – both the fish and the side vegetables are delicious and cooked to the right degree. ????

Omg the food was delishh, I got the pizza that was served with speck, pear, and walnuts with a buttery sauce base. It tasted heavenly. And their olive oil? Omg don't even get me started. So good

I visited Nami for the first time on Saturday night (July 17th) and I was absolutely pleased with the service. The staff was very friendly and accommodating for our entire stay at the restaurant. I enjoyed the smoked salmon and miso soup I ordered, but what I really loved was the ambience and jazz music that set the mood. I have a feeling this may become one of my favourite places in Toronto and I will definitely be visiting again.

Very disappointed with this restaurant as I had high expectations after reading reviews for it. Went here for summerlicious and found an ant crawling around in my salad. When I told the waitress about it all she did was say let me get you another one. I was disgusted and lost my appetite. When paying for the bill they charged me regular price for everything until I brought up the incident with the ant and the waitress went to speak with the manager. I only got $3 cut off from the total of my bill and the manager gave me a card saying next time I come in I can get a free sushi spring roll for free...as if I’d even go back. The waitress also often disappeared and our tables weren’t cleared before bringing our meals to the table, so we were left with a pile of dirty plates on the side of our table while eating lunch. Absolutely disgusted and definitely not going back. Would not recommend.

Mary Lim

I loved the wagyu beef, I tried both the sushi and the main course wagyu and both were delicious. I also sampled some amazing appetizers, everything was fresh and the plating was stunning. I will definitely eat here again so I can try more of the menu!

Carolyn

Great food, fresh ingredients, creative flavours, great service, but quite overpriced. They had halal chicken and beef, which was nice. Staff were wearing traditional japanese kimonos, which was a nice touch but the shoes didn’t look comfortable, especially for waitresses who are on their feet all day.

Alan Christopher

Let me start out by saying the food is still outstanding. After coming here almost thirty years and my friend coming about twenty-five, we both could not believe what transpired. We asked for the bill and told both the server and the manager that we never did receive our beef appetizer. The manager had asked us several times if we were sure to the point of accusing us of eating this dish. He said he went to adjust the bill and was gone for quite some time. He then admitted that he went to check the video. We still cannot believe this happened after being a patron for all these years. We both have brought clients there for years and I have always recommended this restaurant to many. Sad to say, we will not be returning and I will be instructing my staff who are always told to take many of our clients there. Thank you Nami for the many good years but we will not be returning. P.S. My friend's firm has also brought many clients and he too will not be returning and sending out a notice to his staff.

The Sushi Roll, Sashimi, and Maki are super fresh and tasty!!!! Even the wasabi (homemade one) tastes so good!!! If you are a sashimi lover, Chef’s Selection is strongly recommended! You will not regret to try it. The environment is good and clean, but is a little bit crowdy in Saturday night. Every waiter and waitress is so busy, sometimes they might forget to add water or tea for you. Don’t forget to make a reservation before you go to this place. It cost us around $350 (tax and tips are included) for 3 ppl. However, if you don’t order too much sashimi, it should be around $50-$60 a person.

Great sushi at Nami. We ordered a number of rolls, hand rolls and a la carte. Very fresh, the waitress was very friendly and there was quite a lot seating on a weekday evening. We will be back

It's probably the most amazing Japanese restaurants that I have been. The sashimi is delicious and as well as sushi. Even though the price is a little bit higher but it’s definitely worth it to try.

Got their winterlicious main which came with a soup and salad at the bar. It was a bit pricy but expected for the area. Sushi was fresh and of good quality. We wanted to also get a piece of uni but they were out. The service was a also bit awkward (the server seemed like he was new).

EDIT 2 (2019): even though I was given the email to get in touch with the restaurant and multiple attempts to get in touch I never received a response. I call this really bad customer relationship management. Won’t be returning to this restaurants at this point. EDIT (2019): 4th time here and probably the last time. There's nothing more upsetting than spending a LOT of money on sushi that has dry fish and little taste to it. Not gonna lie, I didn't even finish the food. I guess the quality went down since the last time I visited. But here's the silver lining: the service was very nice throughout the evening so koodos to the team. Came here for summerlicious. Sashimi was amazing - so fresh. Salmon teriyaki was tasty but not exceptional. Matcha ice cream - always good. It came with red bean fudge.

Renee D'Souza

Came for winterlicious and restaurant was packed. Lots of people ordering from main menu as well but plenty of selection on winterlicious menu. This place definitely has a specialty in robata items, we tried grilled cod and salmon and both were perfect. Cod was smooth like butter and sweet and fresh, amazing. Tempura was great too, not overly oily and vegetables cooked perfectly. Sushi was special, mostly the rice, must be the type of vinegar used which gave it a unique flavour. The fish was buttery and nice but I've had fresher. Rice grains a little small for my liking (I like a fluffier, rounder rice) but that's only a minor texture thing. Lastly dessert was standard, chocolate mousse was quite sweet and the tea pudding was smooth like a flan with a mild flavour.

Katie I

It's is definately an "expensive but worth it situation". The grilled lobster and wagyu are great and the "blue fin tuna sushi" just melts in your mouth. The tempura is very expensive for what you actually get and there are mushrooms in/on/around everything. The house sake is great when hot but tastes bitter when it cools down so keep that in mind if you order it. 8/10 would do it again!

Courtney Tran

Came here for birthday dinner and it's nothing special. The food was okay but I felt like I was sitting in a cafeteria. So loud and crowded. Not to mention the waitress gave us the bill when we were only 1/3 through our 150$ sake. We were planning on ordering more food but I guess not.

Jason Shin

Very good service. Good food. Main course was a little slow though.

Donald C.

Food arrived quick and beautiful presentation but the food wasn't good. The botan ebi shrimp sashimi arrived dry and grey in colour. Unagi don was overly smokey in flavour. Bento box sides were ok, the nigiri was the only thing that was pleasant to eat, it was fresh and had a good rice to fish ratio.

Anjeleo Villarruz

Tasty sushi, the fish was very fresh. The premium sashimi was really tasty. We also ordered the assorted tempura and beef tataki. The beef was very fresh and had a nice flavour. We paired our meal with Sapporo’s and green tea to drink. Service was pretty good. Covid rules are adhered to and I felt safe. I recommend Nami for your next sushi craving.

Could not get a hold of the restaurant before we arrived which is fine it could just be busy. When we arrived (walkin of 2) we waited without acknowledgment, we also saw other people go ahead of us and staff did not see us. We were not acknowledged at all even if we arrived earlier. We were eventually sat but not before 2 or 3 group of walkins before us. Once sat, no acknowledgement at the table for 20 minutes, took drink order and another 20 minutes before it arrived, sent food orders in , waited 35 minutes without letting us know of wait times. In the end we waited and the meal was expensive and medioccre for being ignored all night. What a mess.

Went during winterlicious and the food was good and the fish was fresh. Not sure how the regular menu is or is priced for a good place for winterlicious

TL;DR: Place use to be good, now it's an average restaurant serving average food made from average ingredients charging you a premium price. Great service though. We ate at this place a couple of years ago and it was a great experience. It was expensive sure, but the service, presentation and quality of food was definitely worth it. I still remember the botan ebi which they would fry the head after you were done with the body and it was unique and delicious. Fast forward to 2021. We were craving good japanese food. We found Nami on ubereats and thought we'd give it a try. After all, we have had Covid era take out from places like Yasu and Skippa, and they were great. What we got were some of the most overpriced and poor quality sashimi I've ever had, with the Otoro sashimi been the worst offender. OK, we thought, maybe it's a problem with take out. We decided to go there and dine in. What a mistake that was! Basically 1/3 of the already limited menu was unavailable. The main dishes all have the exact same sides, just with the different protein plated onto it yet still somehow took forever to serve. Our entire meal consisted of mediocre food we could have probably gotten at any other half way decent japanese restaurant for half the price. The only saving grace of the night was our waitress who was great, and the only reason I gave Nami a 3 stars instead of 1. We will not be giving Nami a third chance.

I read about all the negative reviews before I come in. But their sukiyaki is actually really good! The dashi of sukiyaki is probably the best in Toronto, not too sweet or too salty. It remains its flavor after adding hot water. The wagyu beef is great, a bit overpriced though. The rice is superb, very chewy (in the good way). The sushi is…meh. Hotate sushi is nice, but the others are a bit disappointing compared with other sushi places I have been to.

Maria Gonsalves

Delicious food! With ok service! A must if you like sushi! However be ware of your bill, like any good sushi restaurant the price can go up fast, specially if you choose some of their premium ingredients like imported sea urchin.

Still on the hunt for a great sukiyaki beef in Toronto - have not found it yet. Nami's is about a 3.5 to 4 out of 5. It's okay, not anywhere like in Japan. The sushi is okay. I prefer the sushi at Miku and Soushin.

Tina Zhang

Food was really good, good presentation and arrived quickly. Really enjoyed the experience in their private room, where you have to remove your shoes and eat in an Japanese table close to the floor.

This is my boyfriend and my go-to for sushi in Toronto. We are somewhat sushi snobs and like to order the authentic stuff. Nami's sushi is fresh, authentic, and delicious. The chutoro is a splurge but an absolute must.

We went Nami for summerlious. Overall, the food tastes okay and they are fresh. However, I can find cheaper one that tastes better.

Fantastic food. Amazing service. The wagyu steak and black cod are consistently tasty. Love their sashimi. Best sushi pizza and karage in town.

Jared Gordon

Highly recommend this place. Food was great and authentically Japanese. Love their sukiyaki hot pot on a cold night. Sushi was fresh and have fresh selections. Been here more than a few times (busy and non peak periods) and have experienced great service.

This place is an institution and delicious. I got the eel and it was terrific Just so good. You might think sushi, but trust me, get the eel.

Sandy Yang

Great sushi and Japanese food. Not your traditional rolls and more authentic. The booths are great and private. The prices are super reasonable. It's one of my favorite sushi places in Toronto, definitely my favorite Japanese food.

We came as a party of two on a Friday with reservations. The restaurant was about half full when we arrived at 6:30. The decor is very authentic, with waitresses wearing kimonos and Japanese decor everywhere. It was a pretty nice touch that stood out. I found the food to be very underwhelming for the price point. We got the sashimi combo, toro sashimi, negi-toro roll, and the spider roll. We also got some authentic ground wasabi root, which cost a lot for a tiny amount and didn't really stand out as hugely unique from the horseradish blend that they usually pass off as wasabi. The highlight of the meal, for me, was the spider roll. It had a nice texture, and the Japanese mayo really added a depth of flavour that this roll typically doesn't have at other restaurants. The sashimi was comparable to much cheaper places, but at a much higher price point. While it wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing. Service was also incredibly slow here, and it took a full forty minutes to receive anything outside of tea. I would likely not come back here. The novelty of the decor and kimonos wears off pretty quick, and then you're just in an overpriced mid-tier sushi restaurant. I'd suggest Jabistro for higher quality of food at a similar price point.

Neil

Their black cod is my favourite in the city. When winterlicious is in their menu is a little more limited but they make good Japanese food; especially when it's coming from the grill.

L Cla

Excellent place for sushi and sashimi. Quality fresh seafood prepared with care. Unfortunately not alot in the way of non-sushi items on the menu. They don't mix up the special menu items enough. Seems like they should have just put the specials on the full menu and be done with it. In any case, still a very enjoyable place to go.

Jonathan Keebler

Went for winterlicious lunch. It's a relatively big Japanese restaurant. The place was empty when we arrived at 11:45, and was filled up entirely when we left at 1. All in all, we enjoyed the lunch. The sashimi was very fresh and the fried fish was tasty. The waitress was very efficient.

It was decent and the servers were great. However, it didn't live up to its price in my opinion. I'm giving it 3 stars for presentation and decent sushi, but if I'm being honest I'd go to a different sushi place for my preference. It was nice to try.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant. They always serve their food with dignity, their ????️ is perfect and food is always fresh

Good food overall but prices are on a bit high side for what they are, but not terrible. They put a lot of effort into making the interior of the restaurant look as authentically Japanese as possible. The restsurant staff are dressed in traditional clothings to add to the authentic experience.

Food is definitely too expensive. I ordered this box of sashimi which cost me almost 70 dollars, and the box size turned out to be very small. Fish was okay, but sweet shrimp was definitely not fresh. The add-on of uni was 10 dollars, and it’s just few pieces. Btw, the herbs on top looked nice, but they tasted really weird, completely ruined the flavor.

Null76

Great tasting sushi and sashimi, friendly stuff and service is great. On this particularly visit the AC was out of service, wo it was pretty hot inside, but they stuff handled it pretty well. There are a few stairs at the entrance so not exactly stroller or wheelchair friendly. The back tatami rooms are pretty fun and can hold about 12-16 people in there.

Ordered on Ubereats and was very disappointed. The unagi warayaki don did not look like what was pictured at all. It looked more like a regular unagi don except I paid $38 for it.... I was excited to try the sushi pizza since they claim to have invented it, but it was so tiny and not worth the $16. I can get it for half the price elsewhere.

Rob Mackenzie

Had a DELICIOUS dinner here at Nami Japanese Restaurant. We were completely blown away by every dish we ordered: Aburi Shirako Ponzu, Fresh Oysters, Blue Fin Tuna Sushi, Wagyu Striploin and Tartare, Agadashi, Chicken Karaage… WOW. Service was impeccable, drinks were fantastic, food was out of this world. Will be coming here again :)
