This Restaurant corresponds to the category of Fusion restaurant.
Food was delicious especially the satay rice and the hainanese chicken rice. The thai ice cream was very good.
First day downtown in over a year, and wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth. This place delivered! ???????? The staff is super courteous. That's a bonus. Highly recommend the "Cookie Monster". ????
Very disappointing. Tiny (one bite) baos for 6-8 dollars. The amount of meat on each Bao is infamous... It took them to prepare my order 17 minutes...and both baos were wrong.
Best Nasi Lemak in town!! The crispy chicken was so tasty
Serving sizes are extremely small and provide way more rice than protein - I got the Singapore Cream Chicken (max. 4 strips of chicken) and it was bland with no sauce whatsoever (even though I was told there would be). Notorious P.I.G. bao bun was super overcooked and service was overall subpar... the total was $20, so I'd say save your money and go elsewhere!
Excited to see some Nasi Lemak hitting the Toronto food scene. The Ayam Goreng was succulent and delicious. I will note that the portion is a little on the small side but understandable for how many components are part of the dish. I also wish it was possible to pay for extra sambal because it is phenomenal. Though they were generous enough to give me a little extra when I asked if I could pay for more.
Love the food. It is super delicious and clean. Highly recommend!
Found this little gem conveniently next to my condo and have come at least three times a week since! I love trying new foods and if you’re into fusion foods you’re going to love this! The baos taste so fresh and the rice dishes are the perfect portions and don’t even get me started with the succulent meat! They also have unique donuts and ice cream (milk tea, roasted green tea, Thai milk tea, etc) Try the HK flotea it’s basically a bubble tea float.. obsessed! Staff is warm, courteous and friendly, space is clean, neat and bright. I will definitely be back (often) and recommend to others, definitely give them a try!
Absolutely delicious! Everything that I tried was amazing! I'm so excited that a bao fusion sandwich place has opened up. Please try their steak bao and their fish bao, and also the truffle fries! High quality truffle mayonnaise, and their price was amazing too.
Ordered delivery through their pop-up event in Scarborough tonight. Food was amazing. Even my Indonesian in-laws enthusiastically approved. Fewer stars because the portions were miniscule. We ordered the nasi lemak platter, which is supposed to feed 4 people. More like 4 children. It was enough for only 2 adults. The bao kits were very small as well but plenty of meat (Notorious PIG tasted like Filipino pork adobo). We were unfortunately still hungry after our meal. We would order again if they repeat these pop-up events but now know to order more food. And please please please include delivery South of the 401 in Durham.
We ordered the nasi lemak with chicken rendang and chicken curry and a original nasi lemak. The portion sizes for both chicken dishes are pretty small. It wasn’t bad but it was only okay. The do give you quite a bit of rice but there isn’t enough protein for it. The tiny container inside the first box had the chicken rendang and is 6 dollars more than the regular nasi lemak with no protein. Food tasted fine but it just didn’t feel like it was worth it.
I tried the chicken satay bao. This is a Westernized version of 'sate' and 'sambal kacang' but it still tasted good. I like the simplicity although personally I would have liked it a bit spicier (I might have missed the option). The bao holds together perfectly and it's tight, nothing dropped or dripped. I would definitely go back. Selamat Makan!
The Nasi Lemak (with Ayam Goreng) is good, no where near true Singapore/Malaysian standards but for a downtown Toronto location it’s good enough. Sambal is lacking, I suppose to appease the western palate. Service isn’t great, staff aren’t particularly friendly but it’s not a big issue. Will return for sure.
Steak sandwiches are really tasty. But expensive and small!!!
Delicious Malay food
Ordered ice cream (from Fugo), delicious!
Love the bao buns here. Had to come back for more. Highly recommend the satay chicken ones.
Had the tofu (filet not fish) and it was great! Everything fit well together with the veggies, rice, fried egg and fried tofu. They also had great desserts too that I'll get for next time.
The aesthetic is lovely
Solid spot for quick eats. Everything tasted fresh and the fried aspects were light and not greasy. Tater tot sauce rocks and was my favourite part of the meal. Ended up getting 2 baos and tater tots each because there were many reviews complaining about portion size but the size is exactly what you’d expect (on par with banh mi boys for example) so we ended up very full… both steamed and fried versions were good - recommend trying both to see what you prefer. We also had some plain powdered donuts that were light and fluffy. Overall, nothing revolutionary but definitely a satisfying meal!
The food here is actually really tasty. We got a fried chicken bao, large satay chicken bowl, and large curry chicken bowl. The bao and the satay were the highlights of this order. Flavours were nice, chicken is very tender, and they do a good job removing all the bits of bone and cartilage. The portions are quite small which is the only reason I'd give Makan an average 3 stars. I feel like for the price of a large you really should be full enough to call it a meal, but there's really not that much food. The chicken portion is maybe only a little smaller than I'd hoped, but the rice is very small and it's such an inexpensive thing to skimp on. Picture is of a large satay bowl which is about the size of a small yogurt tub and has lots of space left.
Got a variety of baos and the kimchi tater tots. The baos were incredible, especially the satay one. Would highly recommend that one!
Ordered chicken satay bao and the big bird bao and my oh my wasn’t that a tasty bao. On the first bite the flavours just burst into my mouth and I was licking my fingers in no time. It’s the tastiest bao I have had. At first I thought the size is small but nope - it’s just perfect. Kudos. Definitely it’s getting more of my business.
Halal food
Ordered the large chicken curry bowl but the quantity was disappointingly tiny for the price. The taste was fairly average too. Paid $15 for a food experience that is not going to be very memorable unfortunately :(
Highly recommend their crunchy chicken bao burger - that one is soo good! I tried their steak bao burger but it had a tangy flavour I wasn't really fond of. The pork belly bao was okay to me - not a big fan of fatty pieces. Also ordered a satay chicken bowl and that was definitely a good choice. It comes with cucumbers which really adds some freshness to it, as well as an egg that helps bring all the flavours together quite nicely. Would definitely come back for a chicken bao burger and satay chicken bowl.
I've ordered their Nasi Lemak Platter @makan.to for the second time and was over the moon each time! This delicious feast includes curry chicken, satay chicken, satay beef, beef rendang, sambal, roasted peanuts, eggs, acar, and coconut rice for only $39.99! This is such a reasonable price since this meal was more than enough for 2. The restaurant is located in Queen Street downtown but they offer free delivery for orders over $35 to many areas in the GTA so check out their website for some yummy goodness!
Portions were EXTREMELY tiny. All the baos were mini sized and their bowl (which I paid $5 to upgrade) was mini sized also. Paid over $50 for this order ( 4 baos and a rice bowl) and my friend and I were left hungry and had to order somewhere else. Would not recommend this place to others.
Great little spot for delicious baos! The owner called me to let me know my order would be a little late because he wanted to make sure it was fresh. Super nice guy! I will definitely come back here. The food was delicious! We tried the satay chicken bao, satay beef bao and tofu bao. The tofu bao was our surprising favourite!
This place was recommended, enjoyed the food! Should visit
Ordered the chicken satay bao and zoodle bowl. Food is overpriced for the small portion, and taste didn't justify the price either. The chicken satay bao was underwhelming. Piece of bao, piece of chicken and two slices of cucumbers was all that was given. Maybe add some peanut sauce to go with the satay or sambal. Menu in the restaurant is hard to read as it's constantly changing, maybe have one on paper that's easier to read? If you're the owner I hope you're reading this. As a fellow Malaysian I would love to see you succeed. Three of us went but none of us would currently go back.
Delicious food. Really loved the kimchi tots. Only one person working in the kitchen and cash but he was efficient .
The naps were really good but pretty expensive for how small they are
Portions to small for the prices,no thanks
First time Buying the food and boy was it a FAIL FHE PORTION for a large is small AF AND COLD and I specifically ASKED FOR NO peanut and got it on my meals I had to throw away all the food and made a better dinner for my family. NEVER AGAIN
Edit: the Makan team reached out to me and was very respectful in their apology. We received a voucher and we did not experience an incident the 2nd time. The food was great and we made sure to order a head of time so that we did not have to wait inside the store. I reached out to the team on Instagram today asking for an explanation regarding their bad service but was ignored so I figured its best if I inform of others about them. I recently visited the downtown store on queens and was extremely upset at the staff there. The food took 30 minutes to prepare and the chef constantly ignored us throughout. The worst part was that the order was wrong after 30 minutes and we had to detour back to explain how he forgot one of our food. I normally just forget about instances like this but it’s pretty unforgivable considering how we were so excited to try the restaurant. Once again Please, I'm just asking that you look into this matter and ensure that it won't happen again moving forward.
Ordered TWO baos via UberEats.. notified me that the order will take an HOUR — for two items?? Timed my order arrival precisely for my lunch hour and THEY ASKED FOR MORE TIME.... for two sandwiches??? UberEats ‘walker’ did not know directions despite my very specific instructions noted on the oder. My order got FURTHER DELAYED and lo and behold, I had to ‘pick it up’ from somewhere TWO HOURS LATER. So was my order cold?? Stale?? Go figure. Never again.
Excellent spot. Loved the satay chicken bowl with the kimchi tater tots! Definitely would recommend
Ordered the Kimchi Tots and they were great! Hot and crunchy tots with a good amount of spice from the Kimchi topped with fried spinach. I’d definitely recommend it!
Just had delivery and it was absolutely delicious! Pop Up Delivery to North York was so appreciated! Yum!
Very delicious, authentic and affordable. I highly recommend you to give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
