The fries are unique and so tasty. I tried one of the fulls named Madhouse Grilled Chicken. Was really fresh and tasty with cream and mushrooms. Definitely recommend this place. Must visit this one in Thunder Bay.

My burger was great, lots of tasty apps, very large whiskey menu but if you're looking for a wide beer/cider/other drink selection another place in town would probably work better. Service was good, atmosphere can feel a bit wide open, lots of space but not too personal. More of a bar than a restaurant, open late is great!

Once what used to be a staple in my lunch life. Has now turned into a forgotten memory. Today the madhouse refused to do our Christmas party lunch after trying to pre-order. I'd like to go into more detail of bad customer service. But they're not worth the effort.

This place is excellent. I'm a bourbon guy and this place has an extensive list of bourbon. I was finally able to try Stagg bourbon, because not many bars carry it, and they serve it to you in a whiskey glass. The service was great. Food came fast even though it was a busy night and it was delicious. Definitely recommend this, if not for the bourbon then come for the food and service.

Year after year I don't understand the hype this place gets. They're often in the Walleye's Best of spread they do annually and I just don't get it. I mean sure, its locally owned, but the food is frozen and generic. Is it bad, no, but its also nothing to write home about. Even their namesake burger is a frozen patty with basic toppings and a hostess bun, if you're going to name a burger after the restaurant there should be something homemade about it, I shouldn't be able to make it entirely from items from the wholesale club. It's okay pub fare, a poor man's Foundry.

They have to have one of the tastiest veggie burgers I've ever tried (and I eat meat!). I would love it if they could make some small tweaks - a few more adventurous options on tap, being open on Sundays - but otherwise it's a solid spot for pub food and drinks.

Went for a lunch with co-workers and had a great time and a great meal. The food was well made and tasted great. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Our waitress was SUPER nice - she was very friendly and joked around with us a bit; she seemed to be enjoying her job and had lots of smiles. I am giving 4/5 stars because the service was a bit slow. We arrived around noon and were not served our food for a solid 40 minutes; no one ordered any thing complicated - just salad burgers and tacos. The fish taco was pretty good. I would definitely go again - even on a lunch hour as long as I don't have a meeting right after.

If I could give them a zero star review I would. We tried to pre-order our Christmas lunch the day before, and were informed that they "don't do pre-orders" and to order the next day. On calling we were told that they had too many orders, and they would not fill our lunch order. We're on a tight schedule, and our Christmas lunch was a complete bust. Rude customer service, beyond that, no service at all. If I could give a zero star review I would. They deserve it

When we arrived it was 10 pm in the evening. covid rules had been relaxed the 2 days prior so the menu was limited and sold out of items. Making substitutions which did not fully satisfy my appetite. Overall it was a good experience the food we had was flavorful and cooked well. We felt a little bit rushed and not fully satisfied. We were very grateful to have had a well valued meal. A disappointment was the dessert. We took it to go. I was let down when I had opened the box, for the value I would not order it again.

Took my family here for lunch. Caesar Saturday is reason enough to go. They were excellent! We all shared the chicken quesadillas, chicken enchiladas and the Mediterranean falafel wrap. Everything was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful and despite being quite busy the kitchen had our food out quite quickly. We will definitely be back!

A cozy friendly place to go for a cocktail or to eat. Extensive menu and drink menu. We often stop in for a Spanish coffee in the winter. Food is excellent. Keen service. Fair prices. Parking can be tight. After 5:00pm you can park in Bay Lock and Key Shop when they are closed for the day. Highly recommend.

Been sitting here for over 2 hours when you expect to be leaving all done, but this has been the worst experience ever. I suggested this place for a friend's farewell and it ended up being first ever racial experience for me and my friends. Our server Christine was very ignorant and it seemed like she had made up an opinion about us in her mind already. We had to wait over an hour and 15 mins to even be asked for a food order. A couple friends arrived later and they were served food before us and we still had to wait another 20 mins. We were being judged, eye rolled at all the time. It was a big mistake recommending the place and I guess they lost 10 customers today and a lot potential more. Horrible service.

The food was good besides my wrap being completely soggy to the point where you could pour the liquid out, service was terrible and our waitress was rude and ignored us and when questioned about what was taking so long she rolled her eyes at myself more then once waited almost two hours for food ,finially when it was brought to us she gave us something we didn’t order and people who got to the restaurant way after us were served first. I’m very very disappointed we came here for a special occasion and it really wrecked the entire experience I won’t be back honestly if you wanna come here get take out make sure your food isn’t swimming first ???????? Great food, knowledgeable staff unreal whiskey collection The main event is of course, the whiskey selection! Something like 130 different ones to try. Plus the staff are able to recommend you a good one to try. Highly recommend one goes on a Wednesday to fully capitalize on the whiskey deal. They also made a great caeser, and had a good beer selection. The food was good and came quickly, the scallops we had were good and my steak sandwich was slightly over cooked, but all in all would go back!

Sweet bar for drinks with friends. It has a rather intimate and relaxed feeling which I found very appealing. The bar is smack dab in the center which is a very nice feature. Every time I’ve been here the servers have been excellent and always eager to strike up a conversation. The amount of alcohol, especially the whiskey, is outstanding to say the least. I have seen live music advertised here before, but the bar seems rather small for such events. As for food, the Madhouse has typical pub feed, nothing really that special or outstanding. The buffalo cauliflower is superb. Overall I’d recommend the Madhouse for drinks with friends. It is small, but I’ve seen it pretty busy on the weekends. Only suggestion is that they update their Trivial Pursuit games! It must be hard for millennials to get most of those older questions right lol.

I love this quaint little pub style restaurant. It is reflects a cozy and warm atmosphere. Te staff are always attentive and friendly while they make help you to feel relaxed. I love the menu. The stuffed chicken is of course my favourite. This is the place that introduced me to Sweet Potato Fries with garlic mayo.

????????????.....CRACK ON.....???????????? From outside it doesn't look much at all but when you go inside it's a "different world"....???????? It's much smaller in than it appears from outside. Cozy atmosphere - beautifully appointed - the walls adorned with paintings, pictures, prints, etc which are worth a look just on their own. With a full frontage of glass I would have expected it to be much lighter & airier inside but it wasn't. Every effort had been made to give it an authentic "Pub" style and Kudos to that......???????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????????? It was early lunchtime & pretty quiet so I sat at the Bar. The waitress was polite, courteous, welcoming, chatty & friendly - a big bonus for an "out of town guy"..???? She allowed me to taste a couple of beers - I eventually settled for "Dawson's Trail". It was good, light and suitable for lunchtime... ... ???????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????? I've never seen such a selection of Whisky/Whiskey (depending on its country of origin), Bourbon & Rye in my life - and I've missed "Whiskey Wednesdays" but my liver won't mind that.... ????????????.... .......also an amazing assortment of cocktails. The prices were reasonable and the place was spotlessly clean. ???????????????????????????????????????????? A couple of beers so I went & spent the afternoon sitting in the sun taking in my last view of the "Great Lakes". I returned early that evening (Friday) and managed to get the same seat at the end of the Bar. It was time for the "Steam Whistle".........???????????? .....there she blows - going down the tunnel to the depths below....a damn good Pilsner.....???????????? It was now getting busier so ordered the "Goats Cheese & Steak Salad" and "Sweet Potato Fries". It was very good BUT the steak was slightly overcooked - a small "mute" point. Had to find a fault somewhere !!!! Great value for money. People close by were friendly - one even giving me a name & number for somewhere to stay at my next "port of call". ???????????????????????????????????????????? After more than a couple of "Whistles" it was time for this Engine to retire for an early night ready for an early start. When I left the atmosphere was convivial, jovial, happy & I really didn't want to leave...???????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????? ????????...A CRACKING PLACE... ???????? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ????????????????

Considering what we heard, the food was not up to the standards nor deserved the reputation it has. Chicken fingers were definitely not home made nor were the fries as they appeared to be frozen from a bag. I’ve had both home made at other places and Madhouse weren’t anywhere near. The fish tacos were served warm...not hot at all. Fish felt like it was trying to slide up the throat. Our server was too busy drinking coffee at the bar to see if our drinks needed refreshing. Server didn’t even offer desserts...

We often go to the Madhouse for food and drink and it is always great. We were there twice this week and noticed both times the staff were even better than normal, constantly moving, multi tasking and friendly. This is a great, hip yet casual place. My wife and I stumbled upon Madhouse when visiting Thunder Bay for the first time. The inside was clean, nicely renovated, and had very friendly service. Special thanks to our server, Emerson, for giving us some pointers on other places to go in the area. Also, if you are a whiskey fan, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. Huge menu of options from around the world including two different varieties of Pappy Can Winkle.

I watched a young guy and his son try to get a seat to get somthing to eat last thursday at 8:05 pm and this obnoxious young thing working the front door was something else. There are many other newer bars and restaurants nearby that have great welcoming customer service and openly accept people. Sorry Madhouse your name reflects what you have become regarding customer service . i went here with my girlfriend and the service and food was to die for. we had the mad burger and we shared a ceasar salad to start. I thought it weird that there is one burger option, but after eating it i quickly realized they only needed one, i can not recommend it enough. the salad was delicious and my girlfriend loved the burger aswell. my girlfriend got the soup and it was very well done i had the fries and i loved them. 5/5 a must visit destination for visitors of thunder bay and local residents.Aa

The nachos were good and the dry cajun wings were cooked the way we like them. The wings have been over cooked in the past but were cooked perfectly this time. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Madhouse. One of the best places to go to in town. I go there almost every Friday night. I highly recommend the Marinated Tomato and Bacon sandwich from their 'Lighter' items section on the menu. Not a light meal, it really fills you up especially with sweet potato fries. I can't say enough about how great this place is. To those traveling through, do not be discouraged by the 'Tavern' part of the name. It is fabulous and popular not old and dumpy. Love it.

Just went in for a pint. Now, they were busy, but when you sit at the bar for 15 minutes and no one gives so much as eye contact, that’s pretty weak. Everyone surrounding me was served while I just sat there. I decided to call and let them know. The person who answered talked over me and hung up on me with a sarcastic “byeeeeee.” It’s a shame because I had a great experience literally the night before. It’s one thing to miss a customer, but it’s another thing entirely to compose oneself like that over the phone.

Bad service, the waitress mixed up our bill twice so we had to explain to the manager what we ordered while the same waitress insisted we got more entrees. Also, she assumed I wanted the root beer with alcohol. Apparently, I should have said sarsaparilla seltzer to get root beer sans alcohol. Heck how would I know, it was my first time going. If the waiter was not working the night we went, I would have given it 4 stars. Anyway, good, fresh food. Cute atmosphere. I would recommend this place. I will go again to give their customer service a second chance.

A friend and I entered the restaurant at 11:40 am on Wednesday, October 19. There were 2 other people present - 1 at the bar. A waitress brought us the menu and water. We ordered at 11:50 and, then, waited and waited. About 10 other people came in while we were waiting for our order of falafels. Our meal was finally brought out after 40 minutes. Interestingly, it seemed as if all the other people who entered after us received their orders within minutes of us receiving ours. We ate, paid and left - and will not return. The waitress never smiled and seemed bored with her job. It was very disappointing.

This experience gets worse and worse as time goes on. We met out table mates 30 minutes after they had already arrived. They had ordered their drinks and some food and were waiting. Once we arrived, it’s took over 20 minutes for our waitress to take our order. It wouldn’t be horrible if it were busy, but it was not that busy. After we ordered our drinks, we had to wait another 20 minutes to order our food. Once I made my order, she cut me off and asked for my friends order over my own. Again, we had to wait another 15-20 minutes. We watched as people around us came and ate after we had ordered. We questioned our waitress about this and she did an eye roll and said she was bringing all the food out at once. Our friends had already been here 30 minutes prior to our DRINK ORDER, and had to keep waiting until we had finished our appetizers. We had to stop the waitress and ask if our friends would receive their food any time soon. We arrived at 7:15. It is now 9pm. I’m very disappointed in the quality of service. She also brought out a plate order we had changed and dropped it in front of us. We told her we had changed that and she said “yeah well, I guess they made it anyway” and huffed off. We are a group of ten. None of us will be returning. Our waitress refused to give us her name. On a positive note, the food is good, hence the 1 star.

We had a Christmas lunch planned with our sister store. Tried phoning in the order the day before. They said they “ They don’t do preorders” and to call in the morning and place the order. I called in the morning as soon as they opened. Our sister store was able to place an order, but refused our order, leaving us scrabbling too find a different place to eat, so we could have a Christmas lunch together. I would give zero stars if possible. Not to mention the lady I spoke with had a rotten attitude and could care less of our situation.
