I’ve been coming here for a few years now, as I live right down the street. Always great food and old staff BESIDES the one tall older lady bob cut, grey hair who wears glasses. Every time I have come in and she serves me she always takes her lovely time. 3 more people will walk in and they will have their drink before I even get my glass of water. I AM HERE AS WE SPEAK. And waited 10 minutes for my glass of Ice water and she finally sees me starring and brings my drink over and says “sorry I was on the phone”. Every time I come here now I will make sure if she approaches me I will ask for a different server.

Ordered sautéed mushrooms, and the cooks tried to serve deep-fried, little scraps of fries from the basket & all. I asked them to just take them off the bill, but our server insisted on bringing out new shrooms. They were barely cooked & just as inedible. My friend has a great breakfast, but I won't be returning. Edit - thank you for reaching out, but I have zero desire to return. I was in Monday, August 13th. We had one lovely smiley server, and then one very fake older server, who was the one who insisted on bringing the second plate of inedible mushrooms. I originally asked to switch the meat for mushrooms, as I don't eat pork, and was told I could have one slice of tomato instead. #1, on what planet does a single slice of tomato have the same food cost of meat, #2, tomatoes have zero protein & are not a reasonable meat substitute, and #3, before they even served the deep-fried mushrooms I stated I have crohn's and cant have a tonne of oil. My dietary restriction was ignored in the very beginning. Our bill was 24$ and we tipped 10 on top, because our smiley server was lovely, but holy. What an awful experience.

I was at the restaurant on Sunday Oct 31st and one of the managers or owners treated his staff member with no respect. He yelled at her in front of everyone and she seemed humiliated. I don't wish to discredit the food, so I have given 2 stars despite my negative experience. The manager/owner (I'm not sure of his position, but he is a man that wears glasses and a cool button-up with eggs on it), however, I found slightly rude. I am a Skip the Dishes driver, and was spoken down to about my inappropriate appearance as if I was his own staff, causing a waitress to snicker at me and cause me great discomfort. There are medical reasons that I do not wish to disclose that caused me to wear the baggier, and therefore sloppier-looking, pants that I did, and it is the very reason I am required to be employed as a contracted courier and not in a structured workplace environment with dress codes. I was spoken to as if I was simply lazy/disrespectful of my position, when it should not have been his business to make comments as if I was under his employ. I have since avoided the restaurant.

Ate here this past weekend with my gf. We wanted to give it a shot after seeing the owners response to a less than favorable review. I'm glad we did as the breakfast was delicious. She had the eggs Benny which she really enjoyed and the home fries have an amazing taste to them. It also has that Americana diner vibe to it. Looking forward to eating breaky here again.

Our server who admitted to be new, was great! But I found one of the other servers to be a little obnoxious. My chicken pita wrap and fries were great but my coworkers pancakes which were returned and then still undercooked the second time (which for something so simplistic) was a bit much. Overall for my first time 3 stars is more then fair. There is always room for improvement and I will be back and willing to give a better rating if my experience is better.

This place hasn't had a remodel since the 70s, but there is a reason it's always packed for breakfast. It's a great greasy spoon breakfast joint and a staple for anyone nursing a hangover. Limited seating inside and smallish booths.

My wife and I sat down for a breakfast highly recommended by people in town and by a workmate, and all of the food was cold to the point that even the butter was not melted on my toast and everything was salty just a horrible breakfast all-in-all we will not be returning. Always love coming here for breakfast but just had an unpleasant experience on the phone. As with most businesses during COVID-19 there’s a wait, so I called ahead to make to see if I could make a reservation and I was promptly told “we don’t do those we’ve never done those. So instead I asked what the approx wait time would be for my group and was told “I have absolutely no idea”. So again I ask, since reopening during coronavirus, what has been the common wait time/situation for waiting, and was told “you line up until there’s a table ready, when there’s a table ready you sit down at it”. I understand that employees don’t always have the answers, and business during COVID-19 is unpredictable, but as a customer to call for information and to be given no clear answer or constructive help was quite frustrating. I’m hoping it was just an off day for the employee.

Let me start off by saying that the food was good, everyone at our table enjoyed it, it was brought out in a timely manner and was well-made. That being said, I could make pancakes and eggs at home, and at least I wouldn't have a rude waitress making snide comments. People don't go to diners because grilled cheese sandwiches are hard to make, they go for the whole experience, including being waited upon by friendly, polite people. Not that it matters, but it should be noted that we weren't being difficult patrons: we ordered our food, ate it, and paid (my boyfriend even insisted we tip, and handsomely, giving her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she was just having a bad day). If I had spoken to someone in such a manner at my own job, I would likely have been fired, bad day or not. I see that someone else left a rather scathing review, claiming that a waitress was rude to them, and while it was rebutted by the owner, and maybe exaggerated by the customer, if this was the same waitress, she may be having a few too many bad days...

I ordered eggs Benedict bacon rye toast and a kids mac and cheese... my bacon was cold my toast was cold the eggs where made to be more like a medium boiled egg not what I asked for and where cold. Now the mac and cheese was litterally a box of kd or no name brand that i make my daughter. It tasted awful it was cold and very dry and all stuck together like they made it and didnt finish it last night so they warmed it a bit and served it today.

If i could give zero stars i would. The food was not hot, had to chase down the waitress to get drinks refilled and the greek omlette is only tomato/onion with feta. This is what my wife ordered but she only got maybe 11 homefries with it and the toast never came out. My sandwich was really soggy and it wasnt hot either. I have been there a gew times over the years and never had issues, this was my wifes first time and we certainly wont be back.

I used to rave about this place all the time but now I unfortunately won't be going back. Used to get a simple but delicious and good portioned breakfast for 2 for around 20$ at most 30$ with tip! Ate their today and breakfast for two was 45 dollars without tip... that's what you would expect to pay for dinner. Too expensive now. Additionally, I overheard what seemed to be the manager/owner (guy wearing regular clothes) making really offensive jokes to the kitchen staff! asking if they ride the short bus to school, etc. I am not offended personally but you should not be saying those things, especially when you don't know who is around.

I would genuinly give 3 stars but this place does not care about safety precautions during covid I went today earlier with my girlfriend to have some breakfast and I was enjoying the atmosphere and such at first but unfortuantly the person cooking our food was not wearing a mask...this makes me feel quite unsafe coming to a resturant in the middle of a pandemic and seeing this if you have a big window where customers can see the kitchen you might want to make sure you're wearing a mask.

I come here for breakfast quite often. However, i recently paid almost $50 for breakfast for two people when it was usually around $30 at most with tip. I understand that the approximate 19% increase in minimum wage can take a hit on small businesses, however i don't think a 66% increase on my breakfast bill is a reasonable consequence, it is a little too much if you ask me. I'm paying an extra $20 for my 30 minute breakfast and you're paying your employees an extra $2.20 each hour. Doesn't make any sense at all. Then again the food is still great.

I have to be clear about this rating so others understand. The food was absolutely delicious and prepared perfectly, however a few areas of improvement in my opinion from this visit was the actual portions. The eggs were very small, and the breakfast wrap was also quite small for the price. The potatoes were perfectly prepared and well portioned on the other side of the plate.

Potatoes were amazing, wish they would give a little more of them. Not sure why people say it's outdated? Its a typical breakfast resturant look. If you want fancy go to the places that charge 20 dollars a person for the same food. I rather have good food, good service, great people and great prices and not to mention the owner up front talking to his customers than have "wow this places looks amazing" Only complaint I would have and it's a pet peeve of mine and may not bother others, but I was handed my bill before I asked or was asked if I need anything else. To me handing the bill over is saying get out while people still had food on our plates and still eatting. Edit: after owner replied. Can either be good or bad. some servers do there job properly and make the customer feel well looked after. While others make it obvious that they despise our current youth. (purposley avoiding our table, not listening to specific small details, e.g "extra crispy fries " that probobly wont be crispy,.) like I understand that its a tough life to be a server as well as being of an older age but when it begins to effect the customers experience I would expect something be done immediatley. I like to come here and eat its a great place, but only if I dont get a certain server.

Absolutely love this place. I have been doing to the Lancer since I was a little kid. It's a staple of St Catharines. The staff there are great at getting your order to our table quickly and making sure you have everything you need for your stay with them. Even when it's wall to wall people! If you haven't checked it out yet, do yourself a favour and try the Lancer.

The food was decent, the service was quite slow as we were waiting on syrup and and water refills for about 10 minutes with it not being that busy, the whole atmosphere from inside to out was a bit to be desired. Overall its a decent place to go if everything else is to busy.

I've been here only twice because I live in the U.S. I was in St. Catherines to visit my best friend he told us about this place we went and tried it and man it was sooooooooooooooo good. I had pancakes bacon and eggs my gf had a omelette and home fries. We loved it now every year or time we visit my best friend we go here with him. We here a week ago and I had lunch instead of breakfast and it was still good! I recommend coming here good food and the service was very personable it's almost like family. I will be coming back any time I can!

I was in last Fri the 24th with my kids, my daughter ordered pan cakes but she doesn't eat meat so I asked for some toast on the side instead. The sever wouldn't make the substitution and offered a slice of tomato. Who eats pan cakes with tomatoes on the side? So I ended up paying extra for the toast on the side. There was nothing wrong with the food but the lack of accommodation and high prices are enough for me to never go back. The cost of our breakfast came up to 43$ I could have made something much healthier at home for a fraction of the cost

Give Michelle a raise. We received rude service from one of the other staff, and then arrived home to find a missing food item. Michelle was accountable and apologetic and we were pleased with how she handled the situation. Excellent customer service from her.

We try to make it a weekly tradition to go to the lancer for breakfast. Food is always great, service is always fast even at busy times, the gentleman at the front cash is always making sure you are leaving happy.

My wife and I went a couple weeks ago. It was busy. Waited for a table. The server suggested his home made hallandaise. It did not disappoint! Food was great. Service was ok.(I asked for a red Gatorade and he brought an orange one. I didnt mind. Even on the bill it said red... lol) The place could use a major update. The dark counter area doesnt look that great. Just my opinion.
