This place should be at the top of everyone's list for Stratford dining. The food is phenomenal. The atmosphere is perfect. The staff is incredible. Menu has great options but the daily features food&drink are unique and definitely worth trying. We had the McIntosh flat iron steak. Never had a better steak anywhere, ever! Melt in your mouth! Cannot find one thing subpar or negative to say. They know how to do food and do it well!

This place is an absolute gem. My wife and I have a huge appreciation for food (and restaurant owners who genuinely care), and have grown so tired of the restaurants in Cambridge, Guelph, Kitchener and Waterloo. So much so that we consistently make our way out to Toronto for a great meal. Well... that's not required anymore! We stumbled across Braai House from a friend who lives in stratford and just returned from our 2nd visit. Needless to say, this this arguably the best restaurant within a one hour radius from where we live. It was well worth the drive from Waterloo (40 mins each way), and we will become regulars as a result. In our first experience we weren't big fans of some of the dessert items, but we ordered the Halva this time and it was incredible. That would be my only "go to" item if opting for dessert. Otherwise, you won't be disappointed with any appetizer or main on the menu - it's fantastic.

The food was very good. The pizzas are more than enough for one person and possibly great to share. Some of the entrees were smaller for the gentlemen in our party, but everything was very good. There was a little bit of a delay after our first round of drinks waiting for someone to refresh/take our second drink order.

Amazing food, great service...I mean how many restaurants can you say that everytime you go you get to talk to the owner because he comes out and chats with you like you've been friends forever...go ahead tell me...I'll wait! We've never been disappointed with any of the dishes here, if you are in Stratford it is a must try! Oh and the Braai Bowl is where it is at... YUM!

Best restaurant in Stratford, and a must try (just a bit of a drive) if you're in the GTA. This south african flavour resto goes the extra mile providing a top notch experience. Wonderfully decorated on the inside, and an even nicer back patio equipped with umbrellas and heaters for the winter. Really cozy and welcoming fun environment, with a nice smell or burning wood, and a herb garden blended in the environment with fresh herbs added to the food. The staff and servers are extremely helpful and set a friendly tone. Really unique excellent drink menu. But the best part of the experience is the extraordinary culinary food. The braai for two comes with a wonderfully paired charcuterie board of cheese, sliced meat, homemade style chips, apricot chutney, salad, and all with a special flavour. This flavour palate sets the tone for a wonderful 24oz bbq, perfectly made with a special sauce and comes with an assortment of vegetables and home-style mash and masala beans. The flavours were amazingly paired, unique, and makes it the best south african restaurant in southern and central ontario (that we know of). A must try experience for everyone.

We treated ourselves tonight to a spectacular meal here. Hubby is gluten free and we were delighted to discover that many entrees were gluten-free. We started with a fabulous cocktail topped with an edible flower. Delish! We forewent a starter and ordered the sirloin with creme fraiche fingerling potatoes cooked separately in a mini cast iron skillet. Grilled veggies and lamb. Spectacular flavours all around. A meal we will remember. For dessert, we shared a lovely and subtle panne cotta. Very impressed that at the table next to us, they wanted a vegan dessert and the kitchen whipped up a cornucopia of grilled stone fruits and coulis. Above and beyond. Couple this with a romantic outdoor patio and it’s a magical meal to remember!!

My second visit. Took a good girlfriend for her first time. We were sat on the upper patio in the back and I enjoyed the ambiance - glad the weather cooperated - blue sky, beautiful woman and an inviting space. We actually planned to come for drinks and a snack but ended up with a full din. The rosé on tap was a great way to release some of the tension in our worlds the last few months and salute the arrival of Summer. For food we ordered the cauliflower “wings”, bobotie spring rolls, and the Elgin pizza. Cauliflower were my favourite thus far: lightly seasoned and fried with a sauce that beats Moxies gochujang in my book. The spring rolls were delightful! A curried pork & beef mix that reminded me of samosas but subbing meat for the potatoes. Pizza, also great. Love the thin crust, and I’m forever a fan of the sweet/creamy/smoky bacon combo. I was reminded of NàRoma from my days attending McMaster in Hamilton. When our food arrived, I ordered the chill pill 2.0 and my date the staycation cocktail. Very happy with the flavours and the ‘gram-ready aesthetic. The southeast Asian in me was dissatisfied with the subtlety of spice in the chill pill (definitely perfect???????? for most people!) so I asked for a second one made a little spicier if possible. Server was able to pull some strings and managed to add a crushed Thai chilli. Now I have to figure out how to make the drink myself. Definitely a go-to refreshing warm weather drank. Overall, a recommended spot and hope to be back soon to try some of their home-brewed beers (the oatmeal stout had my eye for sure). Thanks for a great service!

We shared the cauliflower appetizer (spicy and fleshy almost like chicken nuggets). I had the steak, perfect with novel spicing. Kate had the cod with a curry, again done to perfection. We enjoyed some SA chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Time ran away from us and we didn't try the desserts -- panna cotta got away. Best dinner we've had in a very long time.

We had the Tuna app, cheese burger, and bbq pizza. For drinks I had a beer and the server Recommended a non-alcoholic safflower lemonade for the non drinking girlfriend. Good food overall, tuna was really good, fries are crisp, and beer recommendation was really good. Service was good and they seem to have covid precautions on point. No complaints. Overall, with a go.

The staff are friendly, helpful and open to explaining the components of the meals and beverages. They cook over open flame, so your hair will remind you of one of the best meals you've ever had.

From the minute you walk in, the restaurant beams with a cozy vibe. Food here is amazing, pizza is always freshly made with their signature oven to give that great stone oven flavour you can’t get anywhere else in town. Their dishes all have a great sense of balance in flavours and you can really tell they put a lot of thought into each dish and each sauce they put together. Braai house is the spot to visit in Stratford, atmosphere is fantastic, not to mention the team that works there has a great attitude and always seeks to make the customer experience superb.

Wonderful meal, great service, excellent IPA beer made with South African hops, and fine dry white floral wine. The owner is a South African who married a Canadian and moved here [lucky fellow!, lucky us!] Great location too, easy walk to the Avon Theatre, we sat outside along the street side and it was perfect on a fine Stratford pre-theatre afternoon. Highly recommended.

The concept of South African wood fire cooked food sounded so intriguing that it was on my list of places to check out, and unlike anything I'd expect to encounter in Stratford or experienced much even in bigger cities. Braai has several outdoor seating options including in their lane way as well as upper back patio areas. As these were all full, hubby and I opted to get takeout. We enjoyed a nice discussion with one of the restaurant owners who provided helpful suggestions on what we should order as well as considerations for what would "travel" better. We opted to order the half rack of ribs and the Braai bowl. The Braai bowl and the half rack of pork ribs were very tasty. Braai's indoor dining area is gorgeous and a spot at their chef's counter facing the open kitchen would be amazing. The only downfall is the smokiness in the air (which is understandable given the mode of cooking). Definitely highly recommended!

I had the best branzino at a silent monk monastery in Cannes France. Until now, that was my favourite fish meal ever. I just had sea bass Braai House that kicked it. In my hometown StratfordON there is a new resto that cooks over an open flame. This fish was exquisite. Melty, crisp, buttery and fresh. I “went away”.

My husband and I decided to try Braai house for our anniversary this year. (since we were finally allowed out). And it was such a great experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with positivity. The atmosphere was cozy and perfect for our special occasion. The food was great, the drinks were great. The server was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and had great recommendations. Hands down 10/10. I will definitely recommend and we will definitely be back.

Excellent! Went because we wanted a taste of home and we were not disappointed. The boerewors was excellent and juicy. Fish was cooked to perfection and the Malva pudding was made just as it should be. On top of that service is excellent, good beer selection, not on the menu but they had Savana and also a nice wine selection. Would 100%go again !

My brother is a chef back in Cape Town and we where given a gift card from my mom and dad. Stratford is a great food city, and we were quite excited to eat at a South African restaurant. Walking into the space, it is gorgeous. Their bar is very impressive and their cocktail list is quite extensive. Most of their cocktails have a minimum of 5 ingredients. I ordered a tequila based drink. It arrived at the table in such a pretty glass with a charred piece of pineapple atop, it was delicious. For the food, I was with another person and I asked if the large plates were big enough for two people to share. Our server said no, so we ordered something additionally. When the whole fish arrived at the table, it definitely was large enough for two. I dislike it when you are basically talked into over ordering. The fish was good. It came with crispy rice. I wasn't a fan of the texture, found it too hard and lacking seasoning. The salad that came with it was quite good. We also ordered a broccoli dish, that I found a bit pricey for the size, but had a great taste. Overall, I liked the restaurant, they have a mix of south African food, but they also make a lot of pizza, so it suits a lot of peoples needs.

This was our first time here today and wow what an amazing place ... We sat on the patio its very chill vibezzzz and tried a whole bunch of appys the server was called krista she was very informative and looked after us with drink suggestions my husband loved the rum cocktails the first one was a stay cation second one was rum punch he said if he had to chuck one off a mountain the rum punch would go lol so staycation all the way for rum lovers ..... I myself dont drink and the drink i had was called paloma so flavourful delicate refreshing scrumptious... Fungi n fig pizza was delightful cauliflower wings ... Apricot desert delicous ....highly recommend

We were here for dinner ealier this year and it was excellent. We were excited to come here again but this time it was very disappointing. The severs were all extremely attebtive and great but the food was very disappointing. We started with an octupus appetizer which was served dried out and almost unchewable. For my main I ordered the elk whic was $48. They served me a piece of elk that was no more than 2oz in size and over cooked and hard to chew. Elk has to be prepared rare which any chef would know. $48 for a chewy over cooked 2oz piece of meat is not good. I told our server that the elk was overcooked and chewy and he apologized and offered me a free appetizer. One would expect they immediately offer to replace the elk cooked properly. We are not sure we would recommend this place any more or give it another try.

I was hopping to be +1 with 5 stars for excellent food, but didn't even had a chance to taste it. Walked in from the street and the staff member greeted and explained the menu and the cusine. After telling her i will be back (extending parking time so i can enjoy the whole experience) things changed. For close to 5 minutes no one approached to sit us. Although, twice i was asked if i am being looked after, still no one tried to accommodate us. I started to get frustrated, because it is very disrespectful to keep the customer at the gates and pass by him several times. Right before i turned to leave a gentleman approached asking if we have reservations and creating an atmosphere such he is doing me a big favour trying to see if anything he can do, since we barged in without a reservation (despite half of the patio was empty). I received a very disrespectful greeting at this restaurant and this is my opinion. Me and my wife felt very unwelcome at this place.

Very fun restaurant ambiance, neat back deck, modern classy interior with Afrikaans words translated on the walls. The open kitchen is extremely cool, allows you to see the fancy wood oven and barbecue setups, and the smell permeates the whole restaurant. Food was delicious, tasty and with interesting flavours like the chakalaka, boerewors sausage, and the chive butter! Will definitely go again!

If perfection has a taste. Drinks are unique and bursting with complex flavors. Easily some of the best drinks I have ever had! Decor and customer service are remarkable. The food is absolute perfection. Just as unique as the drinks and bursting with amazing fresh flavors but no flavor overpowers any other. We had the best dinner at Braai House! My South African husband and I were in Stratford a couple of weekends before and were sad to find out that this place is closed on Sundays. We made a special trip two weeks later, on a Saturday, just to visit this place. It was totally worth it! We both enjoyed it so much, and it reminded my husband of his home cuisine, only ‘more sophisticated’, according to him. We will definitely return and try more dishes. Stunning design, sophisticated atmosphere, and fantastic selection of cocktails and beers. The scallops, braai bowl, and deconstructed peach dessert were well-executed. We are sad to admit that we found the duck portion and service disappointing - we acknowledge that it must be tough to manage a full house on a Friday after this past year, however we were hoping for a better experience as this was likely our last romantic evening until October. Our server was stretched across multiple sections inside the restaurant and on the patio, and consequently we were unable to ask half of our questions or follow up on a forgotten lager as we felt our server had quite a workload to balance. We are rooting for this establishment and would be open to visiting again once service levels are aligned with the price point.

If I could post a zero I would have. Ordered two steak meals to go in July, one was to be medium and the other medium rare. Neither one were cooked past blue rare, and there was so much connectivity tissue in the steak we had difficulty cutting through it. The side vegetables were so bitter it was awful. The potatoes were the only thing we enjoyed about that meal. We reached out and expressed or dissatisfaction with our meal and they offered us a complimentary meal to make up for it. We took them up on that offer and tried the steak meals again in September. We had preordered it the day before for a specific time. Got there right on time and still had to wait 20 minutes for them to actually make it which I thought, ok well it should be an amazing meal at least since it’s our makeup meal and they’re making right fresh. This was worse than the last time. Our steaks were still not cooked passed blue rare again, way too much connectivity tissue still in the meat, this time they even sliced it and could clearly see it wasn’t cooked to medium rare or medium. They didn’t give us potatoes so our dinner basically consisted of Cauliflower. Ended up going to pita pit for dinner instead. I’ve had WAY better steak at The Hub’s cheap steak night. Won’t waste another dollar here.
