Came for brunch on a Sunday - we ordered eggs benny and a regular eggs and bacon. Was very pleased, the hollandaise was great and our server was very kind and attentive. Would come here again if in St. John’s.

Price was great but service is slow. We ordered with and 8 top. Apps came fast but it felt like the mains didn't even get started until they confirmed the apps had been eaten. For such a small menu, you would think they could cook it faster.

Brought my visiting family here, there were 11 of us. We had reservations. Our food was greasy, cold, and pretty gross. We waited 2 and 1/2 hours for our food. I only give this place a 1 star because at least the server was amazing. She was so sweet. She brought us out some bread for the kids to eat as some of them were getting really cranky. I will never eat here again. I would never recommend this place. I had a salad that was drowned in vinegar. My husband had the butter chicken that tasted like a microwave dish. My son had the spaghetti which was the grossest looking and tastings spaghetti I have ever had in my life. I would recommend this place to seriously change what they are doing wrong.

Really great restaurant to check out downtown! The service was incredible, the food was even better!! We all ate something different and everybody enjoyed their meals (and drinks) greatly! The flat bread is to die for and their fish and chips are also stellar! We were there on a very busy hot day in the pedestrian mall, but service was still second to none. It was great to have such quality food and service while getting to enjoy outdoors!!

Amazing service by our waiter but food was really hit or miss. I asked for a burger with poutine and was brought a burger with fries and also a poutine (which wasn't a huge deal). My friend ordered the stir fry with no mushrooms and there were mushrooms. We had to send it back twice because there were still mushrooms in the dish. Becauses of the trouble we did get the meal for free, and complimentary cheesecake, which was excellent !

We were excited to try The Salt House with guests from out of town, but thanks to poor management we waited 75 minutes and still hadn't even gotten our apps. The poor server had to deliver bad news three times, saying that she was sorry about the wait and that she had no estimate for when either the apps nor the entrees would be ready. There was a reservation of 16ish people at the same time we were in, which obviously made the workload a lot. However, if you know you are short-staffed, then you should stop taking customers that you cannot properly serve. Also, it is cowardly to make your poor server deliver news like that. The manager paid for our drinks, but couldn't even come say hi to us and apologize himself. The server was awesome and she deserves to work somewhere that the management team doesn't leave her out to dry. Very disappointing experience, and I think the employees and customers of The Salt House deserve better.

Excellent service with great tasting food. I had the southern fried chicken sandwich with tomato, lettuce and pickle and a side of Ceasars salad, my daughter had the cheeseburger and poutine. Both were delicious with generous portions, great atmosphere too. Would have taken them up on the $5 glass of wine if the timing had allowed.

I wouldn't recommend this place. Overall vibe isn't great. Servers are lovely, but food is kinda meh. Our pasta arrived cold. Someone also kept changing the music halfway through each song which was just odd.

It will be difficult to find a better value in downtown St John's. Nice atmosphere, Happy hour beer and wine all day. Bacon wrapped scallops for an appetizer are a great way to start. Fish tacos for a main ,fresh with a good mix of texture and flavour. No room for desert although the cheesecake coming out looked good. All at a great price .

Really good seafood, pleasant and prompt service. Good beer. I had the seafood linguine and loved the sauce, the shrimp, the scallops, and the mussels. My wife had the cod au gratin and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had lots of cod and cheese. Can't go wrong with lots of cheddar. The only mild complaint is they didn't seem to have any parmesan cheese. They had a couple of good local beers on tap and I enjoyed my Dark Horse.

Really nice atmosphere and the outside deck is lovely. We went on Monday which is burger day (meaning that's all they serve), which would be fine but I found their "signature" burger to be average at best. Fries were great though. That and they had $5 pints on, which is always a plus.

My first experience a few months ago was great. My second time not near as good and the last time, for brunch the other day, the food was not cooked by a professional. It was just bad. Cook didn't know what to do with an egg. There were no whole wheat or whole grain breads. I am disappointed. I thought it was going to be my new go-to place. ????

Had a quick lunch while doing christmas shopping. Very casual atmosphere at fairly quiet at 1330 on a Saturday. Food was truly really good! Had crab tacos which were excellent and shared an order of calamari....with an excellent aioli. I'm going back again soon to sample the evening menu, as if it's as good as lunch then it will be amazing. Service was really good too, casual, respectful, not in your face, but really really good and very appropriate given pandemic conditions.

The food was good but it was disappointing that there weren't many vegetarian options. The menu on the website was not the same as the in house, so it was disappointing to find that several things that looked like they could be made vegetarian were not available. We also waited a long time for the food after we ordered, which can happen but was still a shame as it wasn't a weekend or anything. Will definitely try this place again but didn't love it on first try.

We love the salt house usually but this time around it wasn't so good. The waiter did not get a new party for my father after she knocked it off, and the burgers brought out we're all wrong and when they brought them back the toppings we're slaped on, after all the waiter was nice but needs improvement this was the only time we've had problems.

First time here: A reservation for 6 at 5pm with what turned out to be a not very busy time. Our waitress was new and she announced that at the start, so I'll give her a 5/5 for a valiant effort. Everybody's food seemed good, my wings were very dried out though. (picture Clark Griswald eating Christmas turkey) Beyond that it was a good experience. Although at over $100.00 per couple, it should not be a lacking experience.

We went to The Salt House on Saturday, October 30th. We had reservations for 730, we had a window table, as per request. It was my partners birthday dinner. We were informed by our server that they didn't have any steak, ribs, nor calamari. Everything we had wanted. Who runs out of steak and ribs at 730 on a Saturday night and the place is only 25% full? We could see the kitchen from our table, one of the cooks had several meltdowns while we were there. Long and short, fish and chips disgusting. The seafood fettuccine (frozen scallops used) was sub standard. Front staff, not skilled! It's really not hard to get this right!

Was there with a friend almost a week ago for dinner and we had the burgers and fries and all I have to say was the burgers was awful. The fries was awesome and gravy but the burgers tasted awful. I dont know if they bbqed them or grilled them but all u could smell was a burnt smell and the patty was that burnt or grilled to much that u couldn't even eat it. Our sever was awesome and she kept coming back to see if everything was ok and when we told her about our burgers she asked if we wanted to speak to the manager which our reply was no cause we justed wanted to eat and get out and get on with our day cause we were starved but just wanted to give everyone a heads up about the burgers. Oh the onion rings were awesome also.

Went for lunch with a friend. Shared a calamari appy and had a salad and a cod burger as a main . Server was very polite and handled himself well. 5*s. Food was good 4*s. The burger and salad took 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive 2*s. The manager was called out for not helping the server explain the situation basically hanging the server out to dry 0*s and then we were charged the full amount 0*s. I'll go back to give it a second chance... But they better up their game if they want a third visit.

The staff is amazing (very attentive and pleasant), they have a good range of pricepoints, the food is delicious, and the drinks are good! The kitchen had a friend's food come out tepid. The server apologized, took it back, and had new food on the table in no time. Looking forward to coming again!

Fool me once Shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. We just had THE worst dining experience I’ve ever had on Water St. Poor service and terrible food. Avoid the Braised Pork Ribs and accompanying old, reheated mashed potatoes that sells for $25. I shall never return, not even with a refund.

My girlfriend would say 4 stars but I have to say 3. She really enjoyed her burger but I was really disappointed in my chicken burger, especially after being told its a customer favorite. It was fine tasted like KFC spices, but was super tiny the peice of chicken was totally lost in the bread an toppings. Service was good and prompt, so I might try again but will be skipping the chicken burger.

Just finished lunch at The Salt house under the recommendation of a friend. First and foremost the staff are wonderful and attentive. Able to expertly provide an explainatio of the menu and specials. Lunch menu is excellent and MORE than reasonable. A steal to have $5 beer and wine all day and 4$ starting price for burger. With cheese and fries it's still under 10$ . Burger was delicious and we'll cooked. Fries are excellent. They offer many options for sides. Atmosphere is high class compared to the price which is a welcome change. You will not be disappointed!

The greeting we had when we came in was cold and the girl seemed annoyed that she had another table. the calamari was unseasoned, our mains were bland and the side of fries that came with my meal was so sad. Our server was busy but never asked how everything was when she finally came to clean our dishes, even though our plates were half full with the food we never ate, if she would have asked how everything was we would have told her instead of writing this review. But she didn't. Too bad, was hoping for a good new spot.

The stars aligned when I booked a reservation here on Saturday night for my 30th birthday celebration. Our party of 7 was seated in a gorgeous corner booth on the lounge side and got to listen to fantastic live music throughout our entire stay. We had lovely food, drinks and made lots of memories! So grateful for the lovely staff who made sure we were looked after. Will definitely be back on another trip to town!

We had lunch on the patio today. We had our dog with us so we tried to pick a table that was out of the way. The hostess cleared it off for us happily, the server brought us the beer each that we ordered and a glass of water for the dog. The food was delish! The breaded chicken burger was excellent as was the cod au gratin. Value for money this place can't be beat. We will be back.

5 stars for a restaurant experience with great food and a relaxed atmosphere at affordable prices. {LUNCH} We tried a few things: the burger, BBQ hotdog, seasoned wedges, sesame chicken taco, and wings. Everything was tasty, but the burger was a stand out for sure. The best thing was the price! Where can you go to get this much food with an alcoholic drink in St. John's for under $40? Here! First time at the restaurant, and I was genuinely excited to try from what I had heard about it and from what I seen online, but unfortunately the restaurant didn’t live up to my expectations, we were waiting nearly an hour and a half just for our appetizers, and didn’t get our actual meal until I asked about it, which was about half an hour after the fact, when we got our food it looked phenomenal, but looks can be deceiving, I myself had the chicken carbonara, which was an awesome meal definitely an 9/10. But the problem lies with my friends food, the spaghetti was quite soapy and sour, and the chicken tacos were small and also kind of sour, the saving grace of the tacos was the fries that came with it, but all in all the food wasn’t entirely terrible, however the servers were incredibly kind about the service and I do understand that some nights are busier than normal, but when tables that came in an half an hour after us get there meals before we even get our appetizers, there is a problem, 3 stars would eat there if service improves.

Well ......... I dont much complain when we go to a nice restaurant. And this one is. Atmosphere is delightful. On a Friday night in downtown St. John's a restaurant should expect to be busy. Our wait staff all be it very friendly was not a very frequent visitor to the table. A number of things were not supplied even though they were ordered. ...... we were not charged. The meal! Two pork dishes were ordered. Meat over cooked and vegetables cold not sure how on one plate you can have such a difference in temperatures in one end to the other. The ladies had pasta and cod both were quite satisfied. Will try this venue again. Give a second opinion about them after that.

I tried this restaurant with my husband while perusing the Pedestrian Mall. We ate lunch outside in their sidewalk dining area which was nice. There was an umbrella which shaded our table from the sun. The wait time for service was reasonable, the service was acceptable and the Cod Burger was tasty. The prices were very reasonable. I had a house wine which was nice. Also, the decor and vibe in the restaurant was classy rustic. The only issue I had was that several menu items were not available but this was not indicated on the menu and until we were ready to order. Overall a nice experience but not spectacular.

This is my second time dining at The Salt House Restruant. The food here is excellent and has service to match. We throughly enjoyed our meal and will defnitely return. I wouldn't hestiate to recommend. The atmosphere and food quality are higher than a standard family restruant, and their prices are excellent. Perfect for a working lunch, date night, or dinner with friends.

The appetizer was good but the service wasn't. Our waiter kept forgetting about us and told me the only cold shots we could have was sambuca because that was in the fridge. Maybe they don't have cocktail shakers and ice behind the bar? Either way, we decided not to order mains and left to find another restaurant still kinda hungry and very thirsty. Probably won't return.

After walking the Signal Hill trail, breakfast was in order. My wife and I had never had the pleasure of being served at The Salt Box. We had brunch outside on the patio on Duckworth. Social Distancing was excellent! Brunch was served in a very timely manner, and even though it was a simple bacon and eggs breakfast, the time was taken to place the food "just so" both on the plate as well as in front of me by our server Rose. Thanks for taking those few seconds to do it right to everyone involved! It was a great brunch experience. I would gladly do it again. You should go there!!!

I really wanted to like this restaurant. It looks great and the staff is friendly. But the food just doesn't compare to other offerings in town. The burger was pedestrian and lacked any real flavor while other dishes had seemingly random flavors that didn't really work for me. The cocktails also left us unimpressed. Maybe we just caught them at a bad time.

Good food and prices. Cool atmosphere. Servers are lovely though stretched thin on busy weekend nights, and bathrooms unattended to. Ordered a mojito and it wasn't made right - really sour. Took it back to the bar because the waitress was so busy and they added simple syrup rather than making a new one. I would stick to the wine and beer here, cheap and can't go wrong.

Great food, drinks, and service. Come earlier in the evening if you don't have a reservation given they do fill up quite a bit. Prices are very reasonable considering it's in the heart of Downtown. Food is generally yummy, with decent selection and portions are quite generous. There's a sizeable patio outside as well, weather permitting.

The salt yard is a great decent sized restaurant. They had some very good options for dinner and great drinks. The maple bacon cheesecake was phenomenal. Our waitress was also great and ensured our glasses were never empty, I would definitely recommend going here.

Very good food. service was slower but it was a busy night, but worth the wait. we had jiggs croquettes, fish and chips, cod au gratin ans soup of the day...all delicious. If we lived in town would happily go back.

Love this place! Great spot for brunch, and the servers are very polite. I would recommend the breakfast skillet. Comes out very hot and delicious! Mimosas are fantastic as well.

Party of four, we enjoyed our evening. Service was wonderful. Cod burger was devine. House red wine very tasty. Fair value. We will return. None of us had complaints. Nice atmosphere also.

Salt House has what you need for a lunch or happy hour. From a burger to tagine with good prices on domestic pints and imports. It's a chill and relaxed spot and good for a crowd. Try out out!

We had dinner for 3 on July 25th 2019, our server was Indian and nice. I ordered mussels and my parents both had scallops with risotto. It was a decent food for the price paid and althought i felt there was no ambiance, I was satisfied with my meal. I would recommend this place.
