Third time is the charm for chef Dale Mckays, after his start in Vancouver, I feel like he nailed it with Ayden Kitchen & Bar. Great atmosphere, really good food and friendly staff. Both times I ate here, the restaurant was packed, so reserve early if possible. Love finishing a meal with the madeleines and chocolate dip.

The service was great and the food was tasty. Loved the cocktails! Unfortunately we sat next to the open kitchen. It was awful to look at, cluttered and messy but the worst was seeing the raw beef burgers out at room temp (or warmer), uncovered and next to the kitchen entry. Not only is it unsightly, but it isn't food safe (especially when only cooked to medium).

There is a lot of hype about this place, like it is cool to like it. But the fact is, it isn't that great! The 'amazing' burger is so greasy and fatty that the bun is saturated by the time you get it. I like a good burger, but when you can't properly eat it something is wrong. I had the steak here once, it was terrible. They make you feel like you don't know good food when you ask about it, like somehow you are a lesser person. I've eaten at places all over the world, and this place is weak. The chefs weren't wearing hair nets either and I had a sample of some brunette DNA in my food, gross.

Food was good. But 6 weeks in advance I had reserved the upstairs room for a reunion of 14 ladies. Only to find out when we got there that it was given to a group of men that are known in the city. We told both the hostess and the waitress that we had booked the room but they apologized and said it was occupied. They put us in front of the kitchen which was loud and busy which make it difficult to visit. When I finally spoke with the manager on duty he was quite standoffish and said that we never booked the room. I asked if he could offer any kind of a discount or anything. He said that all he could do was take the 18% tip off of the bill. I asked if that would be a discount off of the food. He said No it would come off of what the waitress would receive. He did remove it but we all tipped the full amount to the waitress. She did a great job and didn't deserve that. I was very disappointed and certainly wouldn't trust a reservation there again.

I was at Ayden for a work supper. We ate a number of appys which were delicious and the main was spectacular too. If I had one complaint it would be the relatively small beer on tap selection.

Interesting dishes but my only criticism of these type of ‘Masterchef’ restaurants, are that they put too many things on the plate. I had some pickeral, which is a very delicate fish. It was mixed with a tikka masala, charred onions, cashew nuts, cucumber, sour cream and a few other things. The dish looked and tasted great, but you could’ve thrown tofu in here and it still would’ve tasted great, i.e. the main ingredient wasn’t used to its full potential. Due to some problems with their wine supplier, they only had one of the Canadian wines but was recommended a good French one by the sommelier. Very friendly and efficient service. Suffers from excessive noise due to the design of the place, but unfortunately that’s not unique these days.

Freaking amazing! The food is absolutely perfect and to die for. During desert I can said out loud that they could charge more for their madeleine. Started with the tuna which was perfectly prepared and had the 10oz rib-eye and couldn't believe how tasty it was. Besides the actual food, the atmosphere is amazing. There's no unspoken pressure to dress or behave a certain way. The staff are professional, friendly and don't carry a demeanor of upper class prestige that often accompanies high end dining. Pricing per plate is very fair and I would without hesitation eat here again ☺☺☺

Have eaten at many amazing places all over western Canada, and this is one of the best. I had the trout with pickled potatoes and it was superb. The potatoes had the most complex and delicious flavors, you have to try them! Will definitely be going back again, and bringing friends and family. Thanks so much for the awesome experience!

Easily my most disappointing restaurant experience in the city. Maybe my expectations were too high. The menu has nothing appetizing at all unless it's the $4 plate of pasta for $26 or the burgers for over $20 that I would value at a fraction of that price if you're lucky. Even for the adventurous palate, there is no value here. They pretty much have NO mainstream beer at all available from their bar. There is no room to move around in the place and people are bumping into one another constantly. The coat rack is just a pile of coats in the corner.....good luck finding yours when it's time to leave. Nearly $100 later, we were still hungry. No complaints with the staff really. At those prices, I only hope they pay them well. In a good word I'd describe this place as "trendy". We will certainly never return to Ayden again nor recommend it to anyone. Don't waste your time or money on this place. I give it one star only because you can't give less.

Not the best, only good thing tbh was the waitress. The starter of pork was tiny literally two bites and it was done. For about $14 i was disappointed. The main of Beef Belly gave me a sickly feeling that lasted until the morning and the only good thing on the dish was the sweet onions. We ended up paying over $100 in total for our meal and were craving some McDonalds and Kfc when we left. All in all wont be returning. P.s don’t listen to the hype about this place.

Selective menu with care and attention given to each dish; do not let the menu description fool you, even simple soynding dishes are full of complex flavour. I will definitely be returning again.

Ambience: A well decorated and well designed restaurant. If you like a more cozy place try the back of restaurant and if you like to watch the bartender choose a place near the window! The stuff are super friendly and helpful! Food: We tried: Chicken Liver Parfait with Cave de Saumur Rose, France and Dry Aged Pork Loin with the Castle in the Sky (cocktail). They were unique and special; the pork loin was the star of the show! Smoky, flavourful and overall a great choice for a cozy night! The cocktail was amazing too. However, I can't say the same thing about the chicken liver! I love chicken liver, but usually cooking and working with it is a bit tricky! I usually cut the odd flavour of the liver with a bit of turmeric or a pinch of cinnamon, or even some drops of lemon but unfortunately here in Ayden I couldn't eat the whole plate as it was too strong (the pickles and chatney also didn't help much). Obviously, I am a bit biased against chicken liver flavour! Drinks: They have a great selection of beer, wines, and cocktails. Ask the host and they will help you to choose the best drink!

Had a big party of people here and the sitting arrangement was odd and tight. Location is good though and there's a lot of parking available during dinner time on the street.

I had the burger, fries and a glass of wine. Everything was delicious. I think too many restaurants try and put too much on their burgers. The taste is confusing. This burger is really simple. Fresh ground meat, veggies, cheese and a really good bun. The meat was delicious and the bun was perfect. Nothing worse than a dry bun. The service is also exceptional. I ate at the bar and the 2 ladies working the bar were excellent. Next time I'm in town, I'll definitely be eating here again.

Fantastic. I started with the scallops and five spice bacon with figs, and followed with the pasta special of Tuscan fennel sausage stuffed pasta in herbed butter sauce, and finished with the raspberry and chocolate soufflé. Terrific service; prompt and ubiquitous without smarmy over attentiveness. Wine list is short but effective, and the bourbon is Buffalo Trace (a personal favorite). Atmosphere is subdued, yet lively, and the staff delightfully appealing. Make your reservation and go, soon.

It was smoky in the restaurant, very poor ventilation. Menu doesn't describe ingredients in the dish. Chicken dish had red meat in it, not listed. Sent that back and had the pasta with clams. No sauce, too garlicky, and spicy too. No toast slice either. Was WAY too expensive for the mediocre food and poor restaurant environment. Of the two plates I had, the seasoning was pretty good, but the chicken was too salty. The mac n cheese with morels was good, but not fresh made pasta. Would never go again. All hype, not substance.

First time at Ayden's this week. The appetizers were very good as was the service however my pork was undercooked. Too rare for my liking and very different from two companions who ordered the same dish. If restaurants and chefs insist the pork is cooked perhaps they need to inquire how well done the guest wants their meat cooked .I don't even eat beef that rare. Totally ruined the meal and the night .

Was very disappointed in the trout like I could've definitely made it better myself & for 30$? I mean I didn't pay but I would have refused to do so. The bald waitress with glasses was also very rude to me and when I walk to the washroom she gave me a dirty look and rolled her eyes...she was also no help when I asked her to suggest a cocktail. Ribeye was horrible. 1/3 fat and grissle. Rest of food was decent. Service was good, but suspiciously our waiter never asked how our meal was. Congress had a much much better steak and meal in general. Edit : so I did return here, and future meals were better so I improved my score, but avoid the rib eye!

The food was good, and the restaurant is beautiful but the service killed it though. My wife made it clear she does not eat any pork at all when asking about starters. She then ordered the burger and clearly said no bacon when asked by the waitress but her burger came with bacon on it and the waitress seemed to not care or see it as a problem. It ruined our anniversary dinner which is unfortunate as we were looking forward to eating there for a long time. The table next to us also had their order messed up too, send to be a problem for them.

This was our first time here, and first impressions are lasting. The decor is chic minimalist modern and I'm still raving about how I loved every song that played while were dining. The waitress we had was excellent. Very attentive and great recommendations on drinks and dessert. The menu is very simple, listed by main ingredient in the dish, the description is plainly just the list of ingredients in the dish, so needless to say we were always surprised when it arrived. The presentation of every dish was lovely and the taste was phenomenal. We were truly impressed and left feeling very satisfied with our entire experience. Also the bathrooms are quite nice. Instead of the traditional mens and womens rooms. There was simply just a row of rooms. Each equipped with a toilet, a sink and mirror and a garbage can. The privacy of each room was quite nice. I would recommend this restaurant to anyonr looking for a nice high end evening with someone special to them.

I like to always try something different when visiting a well rated restaurant like this. Gruyure cheese appetizer, duck main course were both amazing! The appetizer was not what I expected but loads of different flavours. The duck leg cut and served were too different experiences and both super tasty. Not too pricey. Would definitely recommend and visit again in my next visit to Saskatoon. Service was good and friendly.

The Winner

Go to McDonald's after eating here because the portions are tiny. It took them about one hour before they bring our food, and when our food finally arrived it was cold. Waitresses were all standoffish (except one of them who was really sweet). All in all, a very bad experience.

It obvious the chef has a passion for food with detail to match. It also appears the front end staff are as passionate about the food as the kitchen. Our server ‘First day Jack’ Aka. Sara, was fun, energetic and attentive. Manager Jack very much cares for the experience of the customer, being involved through out service. The mushrooms on toast was quite amazing. Fresh, seasoned wonderfully, with a cream sauce, on a tasty, toasted Ciabatta. This is the best version of this I have ever had. Charcuterie was fresh, tasty and generous with its selection of meats. They also had an adequate amount of toast and crackers. Always a peeve of mine when there is not enough to match the board, so well done! I would of enjoyed a couple of cheese selections and nuts or fresh fruits, even if they were at an extra cost, but this board as it is, I am sure would satisfy the masses. Dessert’s were very good. The bread pudding was delicious and satisfying. Raspberry coulis as a sauce was tasty. Madeleines were light and tasty but the chocolate sauce that accompanied it was thin, more like a hot chocolate. I was wanting more of a ganache with some substance in dark or white chocolate. We had dipped them in the coulis, which was great. Overall I am looking forward to returning to try other dishes as they appear to be well thought and creative. I did not mention the pickles as I did not feel they were to my taste but the dill pickle was very good. Great job putting a spin on dishes with fresh ingredients, which is always fun, to go along with an excellent staff.

Get ready to nibble on some snacks afterwards. I requested a birthday dessert for my husband and they actually forgot! I had to remind them to do so! The only good thing, was that our waitress was nice. Everything else was CRAPPY!

After a few visits, Ayden's is a bit underwhelming. The rib eye steak is over priced. It was tasty but I know I can get a better steak for (at least) 15 bucks less (it was suprisingly fatty/gristle filled for the cost - but maybe thay comes with the territory - the steak itself was fairly large). The side portions seem small for what you pay, although the side dishes (potatoe and argula salad in this case) were delicious. The atmosphere is unique and fun, we've had good service there during our visits. The seating is a bit cramped in spots. We visited once in the winter and had a table near the door, it wasn't pleasant. Honestly the restaurant itself has a lot of hype because of the story behind it, but it's just too expensive comparatively. For two people we cleared 100 bucks pretty easily with ordering the beef, chicken and two drinks. An interesting experience but not one I will likely pay for again.

Interesting place. When we got there we were told there was absolutely no way they could fit us in. Somehow they made do and snuck us in there! The drinks were good but some were a little stronger then expected. The appies were great and definitly required. Aydens isnt really a place you can just order a main as they dont exactly come with sides. I mean there was a little bit in kale on the plate but it felt more like garnish then a side. They had not updated their online menu as they switched out the pork belly for beef tartar. I brought aomw out of town guests here and we were all really disappointed about the lack of pork belly.

Had an amazing meal last night. Service was impeccable...we went with our servers favorites and it did not disappoint... "pig" appetizer, pierogies and the burger. The burger made it to my top 3 and may have dethroned my favorite. Equally excellent were the drinks...local beer and hand crafted cocktails. I really like a whiskey sour...my server jumped behind the bar and made me one to cap of superb service....we celebrated my 40th...they provided dessert on the house.

Saskatoon is not a very big place. Finding somewhere to eat is within walking distance in downtown. Was craving a good meal, and found Ayden to be highly recommended. I was dining by myself and found a spot at the bar thinking I'd get some banter out of the bartender since I am in town scoping out the city, people, and vibe for work. He was great at talking me into a cocktail, which was a nice start of my meal, and we weather talked for 30 seconds, of which he got super busy after and then there was no talk except if I needed to top up more drinks or order more food. The food was exceptional, he recommended the trout, which was delicious, and the chicken liver was delightful. Overall value for food, drink and experience was great. The only negative I had was that I waited almost 50 minutes for my entree order of the trout. I politely asked at 45min and said, I may have to leave if it is not here soon as it is getting late, and I was a little disappointed. The bartender explained that a large table came 5min before me and got their orders in that slammed the kitchen, he apologized, and I understood, these things happen. I'd come back and was very happy with the food quality and experience. I'd recommend to check it out if you've never been.

Have been to Ayden 3 or 4 time now. The menu is creative and the food amazing. I was with a work group the last time and everyone was very happy with their meals. The only downside to the restaurant is that it has always been loud when I have been there. It is to the point where it is difficult to carry on a conversation with the person next to you, impossible with someone down the table.

Ayden was a wonderful start to my weekend exploring Saskatoons food scene. Everything we had was cooked perfectly and had excellent flavors. I had pasta with ragu sauce, and was worried when I saw capers on top of the dish because I find them too overwhelming. But this place knows what they're doing, the capers didn't overpower anything and it was a great dish. Cocktails are great as well!

I had been before when it first opened and it was amazing. I went again on the weekend and it was pretty disappointing. We ordered the fries and tartar for appetizers. The tartar was good but the fries tasted like cardboard. Also all 3 of us ordered the steak (which also came with the fries) which the waitress failed to tell us when we ordered them as a starter. We would not have ordered them to start if we knew they came with the steak. This is a very disappointing side when you pay $45 for a steak. The fries had no flavor at all, no seasoning, the broccolini was flavorless as well, my steak was underdone, my boyfriend's steak was overdone and my mom's steak was atleast done right. Also, because it was an open kitchen, we could see and hear the british chef or sous chef yell at another staff member in the kitchen which was very distracting and rude. If this guy can't handle a moderately busy evening without losing his mind, then maybe he is in the wrong industry. He definitely couldn't cook proper food either. I probably will not be back again.

Great food, great service, although a little more pricey, you were getting what you paid for in the quality of the food being served. My boyfriend's birthday was today- he'd never been to Ayden's. Never have I been more excited, then disappointed to show him a place he's never been at to eat. I made a reservation. Service was good in regards to quick seating, refills, etc. We both ordered the "Chicken" dish. I've ordered this dish before & it was great in the past- this time was completely different. I noticed slight differences in the chicken description but I did not expect to be served an avocado salad with boned chicken in a bowl. It was not satisfying. I'm not sure if you guys change up the styles every once in awhile or how your menu works but compared to previous visits I was very unsatisfied. The only thing that was okay was the complementary birthday dessert. Unfortunately, we left the restaraunt still hungry as the quality of the dish served was not there. We got 711 chicken.

We went for Valentine's day and they had a two options, the 4 or 5 course that sounded delicious. The 4 course $75/per person is fine if portions/taste warrant the price, but the meal was disappointing. The 5 course was $95 and only difference was one extra pasta dish. I can't fault it too much because most of the restaurants in this city are overpriced. I have to agree with the previous post, you need to travel more to see how disappointing this is. If this is the best the city has to offer, then this city needs a wakeup call. This restaurant has so much potential to be wonderful. As per the meal, the lobster bisque tasted terrible, even the table beside us returned it to the kitchen. My Fiancée had different food options, except the seafood platter and both of us barely made it back home to spend the evening in the bathroom. Food never bothers my Fiancée, no matter what it is, so something had to be off for that to happen. I have spent $200 on meals that were worth it and also have had meals that blew this out of the water for a fraction of the price. This was not only disappointing for the meal size but the taste. Before our stomachs started to rumble, my Fiancée asked if we could go to McDonalds as she was still starved. We are both willing to give this place one more chance as it was Valentine's day and the staff were very busy, which was evident especially once our table was cleared and the bill was delivered. We waited 25 minutes for them to bring the machine and the hostess did only did because we put our jackets on and stood up. As I said, this place has potential to be great, it is just not there, just yet.

If you are going there with a big appetite, this meal came with a side of fried curry chickpea bites which were tasty, but you won't leave feeling 'full' which may be an issue for some used to the North American style of supersized portions. Would I go again? Yes, for special occasions as Ayden's is pricier but good food!

We love Ayden. Every time, the service is great, food is amazing and atmosphere is fabulous. We've also become huge fans of Ayden Catering - highly recommend to make a special occasion that much more special. They'll take care of as much or as little as you'd like (from rentals to a cocktail menu to food), and will truly make it as easy as possible for you (how they found everything in my kitchen without asking is beyond me!) to just enjoy the event. Portions are very generous (which is important to me - I want my guests to leave feeling well fed!) and food is creative and well presented. We're absolutely continue to enjoy Ayden, and will use Ayden catering again in a heartbeat!

Great food, terrible service. We were a group of four looking for a fun night out. We had multiple servers throughout the night - still have no idea who our actual server was. Our drinks stood empty multiple times and we were constantly having to ask for service.

Not impressed! First impression was great as we were offered to sit at the bar while waiting for a table. Long Island ice tea was delicious. Our table was ready - tiny tables and very uncomfortable chairs. Has the owner who selected those ever sit at the table in his restaurant. I felt awkward and exposed. There is so much room! Why not get bigger tables and chairs that make you feel comfortable and relaxed so you can enjoy your meal? Croquettes - very tasty but small portion. Main course - steak and baked potatoe with arugula salad. The only thing I liked on this plate was the salad - the dressing was great. The steak had a consistency of a pudding, no bite to it, no wow! Very disappointing! The baked potatoe was so little and it was crunchy...., very crunchy - overcooked! The quality of dishes has to justify the price and you failed to deliver. Not recommended!

Ordered food for pickup. My wife got the classic burger while I got addition of egg and bone marrow on my burger. Staff were friendly on the phone and in the restaurant. The beef patties were the highlight of the meal. Very delicious and perfectly cooked. The bun too was amazing. The fries on the side were not the greatest and I would have loved options for the sides.

The staff were very commercial this evening. After coming 3 nights in a row, they offered me dessert. For me, it's the only top restaurant in Saskatoon, comparable to a good Parisian restaurant. I would give 3 stars if not for the very innovative and delicious cocktails and the suberb service from our waiter. The food was pretty good, not as good as expected. We had the Thai wings and tartare which were both pretty good and then finished off with the trout served with seed bread and accompeniments which was not good. A hostess dropped it off and started telling us what was on the plate but couldn't remember so just awkwardly stopped talking and left. The "elevation" of the dish came from that the acccompeniments were chopped very finely. The most flavorful thing on the plate was the bread. What saved our night was the amazing cocktails and awesome waiter

Based on the great reviews this place has, I decided to make a reservation for a nice date night. Servers were friendly and informative about the nights specials. My partner and I both got the classic burger and fries, and I added bacon and an egg to mine. It was absolutely fantastic! Pretty confident it was the best burger I've ever had!

The "Plate clearer" dropped a butter knife (covered in foie gras goup) all over my husband's shirt and pants. I get accidents can happen but she didn't apologize or see if he needed anything to clean it off. I was mortified and shocked. YUp - I swear this happened I should have taken a photo! Food - well I gave it 2 stars because I have to say the beet salad was amazing! My husband ordered the charcuterie for an appetizer and wasn't overly impressed - it was very pretentious with 3 types of strange liver/pate type things. The small amount of prosciutto that was on the plate was 95% fat, and the soppresata was not great. He got the burger which he ordered medium and it was essentially bleeding onto the plate. I had the Cornish hen which was tasty but way over salted (especially wing). We shared the cheesecake which was quite tasty but was again pretentious and was more like a deconstructed cheesecake which should have been better described. Overall, I'm appalled that this is considered one of the best restaurants in the city.

These guys and gals make some complex, tasty concoctions but don't keep you waiting all night while they make it. They figured it out. They brought some science to their art. Have to recommend the Beef Shin, really deep braised beef in a crunchy shell with apple and shaved horse radish on top, playing the high notes. beautiful

Used to have a great menu selection but fell to the "trendy" pattern of eliminating most of the menu and jacking the price :( Yes the menu has been condensed and jacked up as we made reservations there for our anniversary after having a good experience there a year prior (despite owners reply). However after arriving to a nearly empty restaurant they went to sit us at a small table right by the front door, we asked to move to something little quieter. Got moved to the back then after glancing over what was just a 1 page menu with only a few select items on it we asked what happened to all the options and were told "that's what we have" in a very pretentious attitude, menu appeared more like a specials highlight menu. So we paid for our drinks and left.

It was dark...hard to see the menu. Ordered Chicken and Beef. Chicken - unfortunately the potatoes had more flavor then the chicken, carrots were a bit in the hard side. Beef - portion of beef was good but flavor was not consistent through out...needed more seasoning and had big chunk of fat. Hard to see cuz of lack of light. Twice baked potatoes was about 4 times baked. Dry and skin was hard. The highlight was the Smore dessert. The other problem was a couple next to us must have know the people that work there . No less the 4 servers stopped to talk as well as main chef on the night twice . Nothing like look at someones butt trying to eat your meal For over $100 For 2 people ...I won't b back.

So incredible! I am never disappointed in what the hard working staff presents to me from the kitchen or the bar. The wine list has great variety but is still approachable. The cocktail list, though unique, has something for everyone. The menu is comprised of well done staples but also beautiful innovative dishes that make you want to come back and try the rest of the menu. You won't be disappointed!

The service and atmosphere was great, but I found the food portions too small. I realize "gourmet" restaurants usually have smaller portions, but being from Toronto (and a bit of a foodie) I found it to be overpriced and not really gourmet (the middle of my fish was not cooked). Shrimp was cut up into tiny pieces to appear like there was more than there actually was (same with the veggies).

People who think this is a great resto, need to travel more. Over priced, mediocre food. I have been on a couple of occasions and both times the best I could say about the food was, meh. First time, fatty fatty thin overcooked ribeye. Second, wildly overpriced hamburger. Service was a weird combination of obsequious and arrogant. For better food, prices and service go elsewhere. CBH for example.

This burger is really simple. Freshly ground meat, vegetables, cheese and a very good bun. The meat was delicious and the bun was perfect. There is nothing worse than a dry bun. The service is also exceptional. I ate at the bar and the 2 ladies working at the bar were excellent. Next time I will be in the city, I will definitely eat here again. The food was good, but didn’t merit the prices charged. The restaurant is very very loud, and makes it difficult to enjoy a nice meal; loud like a pub. The service was good, but we waited 40 minutes for our main course, which is quite absurd given how many customers were there when we went. Very overpriced, way too loud, food took way too long. I won’t be back.

Amazing food, cocktails were a miss for us, likely due to poor choice on our part. The main issue is that after eating at Avenue in Regina a couple times, Ayden felt redundant. Like a less refined version. Don't let this scare you off though, food is still amazing. Did not like seeing a cocktail called "Emancipator" using a bunch of Caribbean liquors/liqueurs.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in town. We had the beef tartar which was one of the best tartar we've ever had. The trout (Fish option) was perfectly cooked and with well paired sides. The pork was by far the best pork I've ever had and once again well paired sides. Drinks were also very good. Expensive but definitely worth it for a good meal and drinks. Posted pictures of our meals. The only reason it did not get a 5 * was the service was mediocre at best considering the restaurants statue.

Aydens is highly pretentious restaurant. The food is tasteless and at best is mediocre. The ambiance is also poor with the restaurant having a very stuffy feel to it and extremely smokey. I had a burger and quite frankly McDonald's is able to deliver more taste in their Big Mac.
