Delicious food and great service! And, it's in a railcar!
Quite a unique place to eat in Winnipeg - a transformed train station, with one of the cars used as a part of restaurant. High quality French cuisine and live music on occasions.
Nice place, the bouillon was a disappointing needed more flavour with anise and saffron. The service was good, we didn’t have reservations but it was recommended for next time.
amazing staff and service. highly recommend.
Stopped in for dessert and was surprised with an amazing patio and delicious dessert! We will definitely be back to try some of the delicious looking food we saw!
Terrific service, even on what is possibly the second busiest night of the year. Great classic French Canadian food, extensive wine list.
Beautiful and unique atmosphere...excellent/friendly service...my dish had a lovely presentation but lacked taste.
Not very good, quite expensive for a bistro, not very French atmosphere and a bit weak on the decor, what's with the fireplace that looks like it's from a scifi movie. Appetizer had the same sauce as the main dish, obviously cutting corners.
The nostalgia seems to amplify the excitement and romance that comes over you just walking up the front steps. Our server was patient, tentative and very in tune with the pace are wanted to dine at. I had the filet mignon. Cooked to perfection as well as the vegetables (my personal pet peeve is when restaurants try serving baby food soft vegetables. Stop it!) One of my top recommendations for date night or if you REALLY need to crush an out of town business partner or family member.
Excellent food and service
Best restaurant in the city!
What an epic dining experience. We sat outside in the beautiful courtyard and had amazing appetizers and main courses. Great service an exceptional food. Highly recommend it.
My best friend got married there. And although it was a lovely event... The service was lacking. The bride and groom were served first as they should be but then the bridal party was served very last... Which was not good for the timing of everything. We didn't even get our wine until all the guests had their food. Im a chef at a wedding venue and I was sorely disappointed in the timing of the service. Everything else was Wonderful!
Lovely atmosphere and grate food and grate services
Had an excellent meal for 2 (Plateau de Fruits de Mer) to cellebrate our 16th anniversary. For dessert I tried the maple pie and my wife had blueberry cheesecake. Delicious! They sat us in the train car which still has the pleasant, old train car smell to it. Highly recommend trying this place. Children are welcome but I would suggest leaving them at home.
Great!!!!!!!
Fantastic. Food was perfectly prepared and presented, from starters to dessert. Excellent service all around. Beautiful, historic premises.
Food was excellent.
Okay. So I know this restaurant has been around for a long time with a great reputation for fine food which is why I was very disappointed in my meal there the other day. I didn't spend a lot of money on their "specials" (and I'm glad I didn't) I just had their specialty tortierre and my granddaughter had the poutine. Mine was very blah and the gravy tasted a bit rancid although maybe that's how it was supposed to taste. The server was very nice, but his boss was dressed and acted poorly. As we were finishing he was talking to his other employee pointing to our table that could be used after we left (for covid restrictions I suppose) Not too classy. Since I had my young granddaughter with me i chose not to make a fuss about the above; so would I go back...no thanks. Maybe I just got them on a bad day, but this restaurant is looking a little rundown.
Expensive food , under seasoned
Been a few times and it's always great food and great service Lots of seafood options Staff is very professional 5 star atmosphere Get a table on the train!
Nice patio with great food and service.
Great food and service. The patio is lovely. Bring back the duck ????
Dinner here wasn't inexpensive, that said but I wasn't expecting inexpensive - it was good times!
The kitchen handled us at a smaller table amongst three large parties magnificently. No delays in getting our food. The food was very tasty and well thought out. The risotto paired perfectly with the seafood. Dessert is a must! The lemon tart was lovely, as was the sugar pie; a special cheesecake the chef had baked that day (caramel macchiato) was perfect.
First time at Resto Gare and Train Bar Bistro. Not much space for parking. However it was really nice inside. Decor just needs a little touching up. The food is delicious. I had the French Onion Soup for starters, it's delicious. Then I had the special for the main course, rib eye steak with mashed potatoes, vegetables, and two onion rings with gravy sauce on the bottom. That was delicious too.
Must try if your new to Winnipeg or need a new favourite place. Eating in the train was a great change to being in a dining room. Food was amazing!
Amazing. We had the steak special everything was cooked exceptionally well. Mashed potatoes were amazing. The service could have been a bit better as we had to wave our server down for drinks a few times. Overall great experience cany wait to go again!
Dine in
Have eaten in as well as taken good to-go. Service is excellent either way and the food is great!
Excellent experience, food was delicious and service was friendly and professional! Will be back
It was a very nice atmosphere and meal was goo.
Excellent service. We had minestrone and mussles for apps. They were both delicious. I don't even like minestrone but this was so good. After so much mussles we shared stuffed chicken breast meal which was tender and tasty as were the sides. Bill at the end was way lower than we thought it ought to be. Will go there again for sure! Sorry no pics we gobbled it up. Mayne next time
Great all around time.Food, drinks and service second to non!
Nice to gather outside on the Patio
I had gone to France for vacation in spring of 2018 so when it was time to celebrate my birthday, I thought why not enjoy some fantastic French cuisine encore! Resto Gare was recommended to me by many, so I made a reservation for us to eat in the train! A week or so after I had made the reservation, Curtis, the manager, called to inform me that the train would no longer be available for us that evening and explained why. He offered us a more private table beside the fireplace and included 2 free desserts! I was ok with this! Our main server and other staff were all very attentive throughout our dinner experience there. We arrived at 6:30pm and did not leave until after 9pm! All of our food was well presented, full of flavour and perfect portions! The desserts were lovely too especially the pots de crème! C'était une expérience fantastique! je reviendrai ???? Merci!
Food was excellent, waiter could have been a bit more attentive and friendly, but the food made it better. Very very good
Food and service were really good. We are planning to do our staff christmas dinner there so we went to check it out and weren't disappointed. Will update after the dinner but we expect good things. The poutine was great. Update: Did our staff xmas dinner there, 20 people, and it was fantastic. Great food and service.
Great food. Great patio.
Great food. Great experience.
Nice place to eat, i have a good birthday dinner
Another fabulous meal provided by resto gare!!! I have been here numerous times and have never been disappointed !!!! Served by David who did a phenomenal job!!!!! All around great time and my favorite place to go!!
Great surf and turf.
Great takeout last Friday. Ready when promised. Foie gras, Mac n Cheese, poutine etc were all delicious.
(Translated) You are simply the best! Thanks for the unforgettable experience and the great food! Mr. Matthew - special thanks for the service and attitude! (Original) Vous êtes simplement le meilleur! Merci pour l'expérience inoubliable et la bonne nourriture! M. Matthew - merci tout spécial pour le service et l'attitude!
Nothing but great things to say! Just had the new years eve dinner for two delivered and we couldn't have been happier!
Exceptional. Well worth the cost, a few extra dollars compared to the chain restaurants. Real fresh ingredients prepared right. You will not be disappointed.
Awesome service, great patio atmosphere, delicious food!
Nice environment, good food, good service. Would go again.
Had a wonderful patio dinner here last night. Service was excellent, we were on the patio because of covid and it was raining, our waiter Brian went above and beyond making sure we were comfortable. All around great food and service and ambience????
Excellent food
Delicious food, in a lovely space, an old train station and an old train wagon, creating a very different atmosphere. Service is also great!
Over priced for such a small portion size with mediocre food. I will not be returning because of this.
Nostalgia and quality I have been to La Vieille Gare prior to its renovation a few years back. The food is of very good quality and sitting in the train or the main dining area is equally fun. The waiters are approachable, bilingual and the ambience is lovely. I recommend.
Neat atmosphere, great staff.
Great patio. Great service. The vegatarian crepe was awesome
Very good food
Always wonderful food and service. The ambience is so unique.
Phenomenal food, wonderful quiet atmosphere, and they treated us like royalty, 12/10 will definitely go back
Went here for our after tax season party! The service was fantastic, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for us. When they didn't have the wine selected, they offered to discount a more expensive bottle to below the original selections price. The food is priced at a level I could afford, but offered food that is on par with restaurants like 529 Wellington or The Gates. Definitely a place I'd go again.
I loved the duck confit here. The dessert cart always has amazing options also. This is definitely one of our favourite places to eat in Winnipeg!
Very original ambient and excellent cousine and diversity in French dishes
Great experience, the food was amazing, the daily special was very good. I recommend the place for a nice romantic night out. And the desert cart has so many choices you can not pass on it, save room.
Fantastic food ???????????? and service!
Good food. Reasonably priced - sometimes. Live entertainment
Have been several times and food is always great and staff is friendly. Highly recommended
Staffs are friendly and Foods are great and Will definitely come back again
Spent a lovely evening at the Resto Gare. Every bite was just delicious. Very well seasoned food, prepared with care and lovely presentation. Tender fillet, the seafood rissoto was exceptional and the pea soup was thick and delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant. A very welcoming atmosphere - no rush to usher out. Meal was excellent - tasty and hot. Well priced for the quality
Had a wonderful patio dinner here last night. Service was excellent, we were on the patio because of covid and it was raining, our waiter Brian went above and beyond making sure we were comfortable. All around great food and service and ambience????
I had the Steak, it was some of the best I have ever had!!
The service was excellent. The meals were quite good, although I felt my pork was a bit over cooked. Some really great flavors.
my first time at this restaurant and the service of the food was not to the expectation of our order. We had mix ups with our steaks being cooked and the wait time for our group was over an hour to recieve our food after we had ordered. We unfortunately wish the staff were more friendly.
Super nice service deserves five stars but the food we had were quite bland. For the price we paid more flavour was expected. It’s well prepared basic French cuisines but it didn’t wow me with any outstanding flavours.
If you cannot make it to Paris this winter, consider dining at Resto Gare
First time and had great experience and wonderful food and service
Amazing food, atmosphere and service. Went on a date with reservation, came to the place 20 minutes early and they already have our table set up. Didn’t have to wait long for our server to get our drinks and food order. One of the best restaurants in Winnipeg for sure. Everything was pleasant from start till finish. Reservations highly recommended cause by the time we finished, the restaurant was already full. Will definitely be back!!
We spent Mother’s Day at this lovely and gorgeous restaurant. Cosy french atmosphere and we were lucky to have a table in the famous train cabin. The waiter was very pleasant and helped us choose the correct starters and meals (included in photos). Their cakes were also very delicious , especially that maple one. We enjoyed, we will come back (maybe for a jazz evening ) and definitely recommend that place.
Neat restaurant. DJ'd a company Xmas party here. Staff were great and their desserts were awesome
If this is your first time going here I would recommend sitting in the train section of the restaurant for the full experience. The server was super friendly and had such great recommendations. The bourguignon was incredible... I still think about it to this day! The food was worth the high price.
What an incredible dining experience. Nestled away in the French quarter of Winnipeg, St-Boniface. This is a gem that is 7 minutes out of the city center. Built out of an old train's dining cart, this French restaurant was not only adorably quaint but the food was delicious. Like role your eyes in pure joy delicious. Starting with the escargot, my Mom had Tortiere for her main course, myself the gourmand macaroni and cheese with smoked ham, and ending with a cappuccino and creme brulee that had to be one of the best I've had. Oh, and the Prosecco was to die for too. Highly recommend! So worth it!
(Translated) Good choice of menus. (Original) Bon choix de menus.
Service
It was really delicious. Would go back.
Food was perfection. Beautiful decor. Lovely staff.
Really nice idea. Good evironment, but went there last night and did not like the service the server provided us. The restaurant was quite empty - only 2 more tables besides ours. He never came to check on our table after serving the food - only at the end. The rosé sangria was awful - could only taste the horrible juice the bartender mixed with, and also terribly sweet. The server sat down on the other’s table chair to “chat” with us - he was acutually explaineing the specials- why not standing? Very unprofessional service! But good food.
Great food. We've celebrated our wedding anniversary here now twice, and will again in the future I'm sure.
Resto gare is a very chic place with dining room and train car for lunch or small intimate weddings or parties. A beautiful patio also where they have Thursday jazz in summer. The food is french based and along with the delicious dessert cart you can have a lovely continental dinner. Good wine and cocktails tho I do find them bit pricey. Lots of parking free and easy access to transit. Curtis a mainstay server is very personable and helpful. The owners very friendly and helpful as well. For a celebration I highly recommend Resto Gare.
Where do I begin? Found this unique restaurant on skip the dishes, first time ever heard it it. Loved the menu, ordered a few dishes such as the cheese platter, cordon bleu & Brie fondue. The delivery arrived and it was everything & more! Great presentation, bursting flavour, huge chunks of cheese, ( which is hard to come by with charcuterie boards! ) It was exactly what I needed... Loving every bite ! Im extremely happy finding this hidden gem of a restaurant! Thank you! Ps. The note attached is adorable, great extra touch! ????
Great food, nice wine, friendly service and lovely atmosphere. Get a table in the caboose.
Recently went to Resto Gare on a Saturday night for a date night out. We requested to sit in the train car, and the ambiance and decor was very wonderful. The dining room looked nice, but was very loud, so I'm glad we got to sit in the car. The only con of the car was that throughout the night, the heat went off, and it got very chilly very quickly. But a kind waiter quicklyturned the heat up, so we didn't have to shiver for long. It's an old car and Winnipeg is freezing in January, not their fault at all. The cocktails we ordered were fantastic. So was the food, save for the escargots...my partner and I both agreed that the beef sauce was way too heavy for escargot. A lighter sauce would have been preferable. The breads in the bread basket were super fresh and to die for. The mussels were excellent. Our mains were awesome as well, and so was the sugar maple pie for dessert. I think everything here is priced at a very reasonable amount for the quality of food and portion sizes. You can tell a lot of effort goes into preparing the food. The only reason why this review is four stars out of five is due to service. I worked in the hospitality industry myself for many years, so I'm very understanding and patient when dining out because I've been in a server's shoes, but this place has five star food and three star service. Our waitress was polite and friendly enough, but seemed to be stressed out all evening, running from table to table, and forgetting to come back to us. It took ages to get a water refill, the dirty dishes sat on our table for a very long time, and our three course meal lasted three hours due to the amount of time left in between courses. It took twenty minutes for her to bring us our cocktails, and another twenty minutes for dessert, for instance. I feel like the server must have been fairly new, or very stressed out with the amount of guests she was taking care of. More training or better staffing could help with this issue. Overall I think Resto Gare is absolutely worth a visit. It could easily be one of the finest restaurants in town if service were to improve.
This location has had a good reputation. However, a recent exoerience was not good.
Wow, it’s running in a real railway station! I love this unique museum-like restaurant! Food is special redesigned base on traditional French flavor and atmosphere is so friendly & romantic! You can never fine another French restaurant better than this! Eating in the the cabin, which sometimes shaking with the train running by, it truly feels like on the journey from Winnipeg to somewhere in France:-)
Amazing food and excellent customer service! Treated so well! The atmosphere is wonderful I feel very comfortable in the big booths!
Absolutely fantastic! The restaurant itself is very nice and very unique. Our server was great, very funny! The food got to us quickly and was really really good. We tried the Mac and cheese, poutine and peanut butter creme brulee which were all fantastic! Will definitely be going again.
I'm a picky eater and so read reviews about that place before going. Several comments were complaints about the food being overpriced. I still wanted to get my own experience though and form my own opinion. As a seafood lover, I went for their Tresor de la mer. My expectations were high and reasonable for a $110 dish! And this was such a letdown. The scallops, shrimps and vegetables barely had any flavor. Don't be fooled by the picture of the dish! It looks good but it has nothing special. Charging $110 for this should be illegal. Needless to say that I will never return to that place, or recommend it to anyone. Bummer.
We had the pleasure of enjoying another experience here. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was superb. The staff did an exceptional job of taking care of us and I look forward to returning soon.
Had the lunch special, steak on warm potato salad. Delicious.
Great food but not too impressive service. They are severely under staffed and our food came late and we didn't get much service from our server.
Food was outstanding and service was great. Im fussy about restaurants but I will be going back for sure! My new favorite restaurant. Highly recommend the salmon with lobster risotto.
Went for birthday server was great had a very nice theme to the building and great food.
Great best chef and staff in Winnipeg
*update after multiple times trying to call Linda as per request I gave up wasn’t able to talk to her.* ????. We will be more cautious now if we return. I would normally leave 5 stars as I love this restaurant my husband and I are regulars have never had a bad meal as the food is normally amazing. Last night we took my father and step mom here for dinner their first time we were disappointed. We all ordered to start our regular escargot in mushrooms they were amazing as always they had a new one duck liver with mushrooms for $23 the waiter indicated it would be enough for the four of us to share when it came there were only two very small thinly cut livers only enough for 1 person rest was pile of mushrooms we cut it into 4 small pieces it was good for tiny piece we got felt the price was extreme for what we got. Considering all other appetizers they have are decent size priced right enough for 2-4 people. The four of us ordered the newly menu prime rib the waiter was very quick to tell us of prices and specials as he was going he offered mushrooms for our prime rib didn’t indicate any extra prices so we all thought it was part of the meal said yes. when it came we were excited as again we never had anything bad. Unfortunately it was under par for $32. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt hard and dry, the prime rib very chewy. There wasn’t a lot of gravy. The potatoes were good but dry from lack of gravy, we each got one piece of broccoli and a tiny piece of corn on cob. My dad at this time asked the waiter for wine list indicated he wanted the $11 glass of red with dinner instead of bringing wine list waiter said he would bring him the one he thought he wanted. After dinner 3 of us ordered desert which was amazing very good. When bill came the mushrooms that we thought were included were a extra $5 per person, my dads $11 wine turned out to be the $17 one he indicated he didn’t want. They are not ones to complain. Said they wouldn’t go out of their way to come back. We will still continue to come back wouldn’t order prime rib again stick to regular meals. Hopefully we can convince my dad to try it again. Waiter needs to tell customers what’s extra what’s not comply if a customer indicates price they are willing to pay for a glass of wine. I told my dad he should have said something.
Service was very slow, but food was alright. The soup du jour was the soup of the day. Sounded delicious.
This is a very romantic and great food and a family restaurant that has been around for many years. Can hardly wait to check out the Chateaubriand!
Food was great. Opted to try the Ribeye special. Only complaint (really not that bad) was the parking
Great Food, great service.... No disappointment here.
The food is delicious, the service is amazing, the staff is very nice! Perfect place to enjoy a nice meal and wine!
Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Always love it.
The food was ok the staff was great but the owner was rude and looked down at at us as if were did belong because we were to low on the income stick.
Dinner
Delicious!
Fantastic place,great food,wonderful waiter,all around great experience
Love this place Super clean Friendly...great menu Prices are very reasonable and you gotta like the train
Amazing food, excellent service and such a great atmosphere.
Food was amazing!
Wow, incredible atmosphere! I haven't had better service in my life! Professional doesn't come close! I truly didn't want to leave. Bus, cart, or donkey... Get over here, Oh and did I mention the food....!!!
Absolutely wonderful!!! We had our wedding there in August and everything was more than amazing. Linda was very kind, accommodating, and helpful. Especially when Covid-19 restrictions kept changing and we'd have to adjust certain details …
Fantastic!! Highly recommended it!!
Great Pickeral fish
Great food, reasonable prices, cozy, classy and romantic.
Good atmosphere, good staff.
Takeout here is a must. Celebrated our anniversary (GF and I) with takeout because of Covid. Food was spectacular as much as we would have loved to dine in covid has impacted alot of the dining experiences however we are so happy and fortunate we can still order take out and also support local restaurants during this time. Everything was delicious . Ordered the filet and the risotto royal ; Both were cooked to perfection (steak and seafood). Can't wait to come back post covid and sit in restaraunt or in patio.
I think this was the best restaurant I've ever been to. We were sat next to the fireplace and had the most fantastic evening. Curtis was delightful, and served us exceptionally well. We had the Chateaubriand and everything that it came with was just superb. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, the croquettes were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. We'll definitely be coming back.
We had a wonderful experience at Resto Gare. Our waiter was amazing and the food incredible. We loved the atmosphere of being in the train. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
We decided to have our Company Christmas party dinner at the restaurant this year. Everyone on our team loved the food and the ambiance. The server was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend Resto Gare to anyone who is looking to have a group dinner.
Cassole was the bomb
Great food. You won't be disappointed!
Real good foods, good service wife and I love this place first time will go back
Jazz on the patio with Helen White: amazing!
Very good food. Small portion was deceiving, very full after.
Nice ambiance and great food
LOVE jazz night!!!!!!!!!!! Great food, Great atmosphere!
My husband and I went to this restaurant to celebrate and enjoy the Thursday evening live jazz. The music was so wonderful and definitely created the perfect atmosphere. The patio was lovely as well. We were seated at a perfect table and were anticipating the wonderful experience we had heard about. Our server seemed uninterested in taking care of us and spent most of his time with other tables. It took 45 minutes before we were served our salad and another half hour after our salad plates were cleared before our entrees arrived. I had ordered the filet mignon, medium well (due to being pregnant and unable to consume raw meats) and it arrived medium rare. It took over ten minutes for our server to check in and ask how our food was tasting. At that point I made him aware and he did not even offer an apology before he took my plate (with all of the rest of my food which was now getting cold) away. My steak was returned however he did not bring me the proper utensils and I was without a fork, the side vegetables were now over done and the potatoes were dry. He didn't return to the table in time and my husband ended up eating his meal with two knives and offered me his fork. When he finally made his way back to our table there was also no apology for the lack of utensils and he seemed unbothered. Over all my husband enjoyed his food and we both definitely enjoyed the music, however the poor service, lack of attention and care really dampened our evening. I expected a better experience from such a reputable establishment.
Amazing dinner we had last night in the train, can't recommend Resto Gare more!
The Chateaubriand is a must have! always perfect, love the ambiance n the service; makes anniversary dinners so memorable, thanks again Linda
Everything from the warm welcome to the after dinner cappuccino was spectacular. Cannot wait to go back.
I enjoyed a good meal and service.
Food was excellent, Alexie our server was great and I loved the atmosphere
Absolutely nothing special about the food, in fact i could go to any grocery store deli and find the same quality for a fraction of the price.
The food was good but the server was rude to one of my friends when she asked nicely to correct her order because he got it wrong. And the server waited until we pay then talked back to my friend which was really inappropriate because we weren’t mad or anything. My friend just wants her right order.
Excellent food, just a touch pricy for lunch, but a nice dinner outing for sure. Service in both French and English
Excellent food and great service. The waiter was so humorous. Definitely going to visit again.
Food was fantastic. love the old building charm.
Food is always so flavorful and delicious, service was great! Love it here, Chef Melissa is just WOW!
Talk about a disappointment! Sad service although I was with a large group. My $16 bisque was cold and came back at the same temperature after sending it back. The beef bourguignon was tired tasting, and served with almost raw vegetables which included green and red peppers mainly. This left a bitter taste for the rest of the meal. Lots of various complaints by almost everyone in the group. Desserts were very good however.
Outstanding atmosphere and delicious food! Friendly and helpful wait staff.
Absolutely wonderful experience, the service was excellent and the young man who attended to us was precisely attentive enough to make for a good dining experience. The food was premium and delicious. The coffee was too. I highly recommend for a nice Winnipeg meal and would return for lunch again if I wanted a nice place. I had the quiche and the crust was flaky and not soggy, wonderful food, great people too. Reservations 100% required for fancy new years supper meal but it was no problem getting in for a late lunch. Worth calling in advance if you're going for the standard 11-1 5-6 meal windows, and for a holiday supper you have to reserve. We made it just in time for them to be transitioning for the supper crowd but they served us lunch anyway at 3pm, we just snuck in. Thanks! Merci!
Atmosphere, food and service, all outstanding.
Beautiful decor...great food... charming
I found a body hair on my bread. + The main dish was too salted so I could not eat. I told them, they just answered "oh! Sorry" and did NOT do anything.
Good food. Minimal vegan options.
I searched for 45 mins online for French onion soup. So someone recommended I order off skip or door dash from this restaurant. I unfortunately couldn’t find them on either. I called the restaurant asked how I would go about ordering from them and I was informed that they turned off third party ordering systems to only focus on in store customers. I was disappointed then he asked what I wanted and I advised French onion soup and he replied “oh that’s it?” And I informed the gentleman on the phone that there would be more ordered and for two people at least. The employee proceeded to tell me that he could In fact turn on the third party ordering but would rather not so the chef concentrate on in house customers only. Lucky for me I found soup else where and my order was well over $100.00. This place made me feel very unvalued as a customer. I wish I could give a zero star rating.
In the upper tier of dining experiences to be found in this city for sure. This place is my go to for an expensive and perfect meal. The fish here is so good and served so incredibly it makes you forgot that we are in the middle of the Prairies!
We took a number of business groups to Resto Gare for lunch meetings in the last month. The service, ambience, and food were all excellent. I will definitely use this restaurant for future lunch or dinner meetings.
Remarkable food presentation...excellent quality
Have not been here in years but went recently. Service was very friendly. The food was good but did not reach fantastic. The mushrooms with the Chateaubriand tasted a bit odd. Its still a nice place to dine. Dinner comes with bread service. The cheese appetizer with pistachios was not as good as the one I had served up recently by the cafe ce soir. I did like the looks of their dessert cart. The berry cheese cake I had was light and sweet. Nice end to the meal. However I was told it was a feature for that night.
Delicious food, and a very interesting setting. Staff was very nice, professional, and knowledgeable. Would recommend to others.
The service was excellent with the food being superb. Celebrated both our birthdays and chose a lovely restaurant that dud not disappoint. Will definitely book outside next time....garden area is beautiful. Highly recommend.
Amazing food and fantastic service by Matt tonight.
Fantastic food, atmosphere, and service. Not super expensive either!
Unreal food, and this place goes the extra mile to make sure your experience whether dine in or take out is world class. They even included a candle and matches with our desert for my wife's birthday. Classy AF
My wife and I will not return to this restaurant.
Had a great anniversary celebration supper. All the food was excellent and service, too. Haven't ever been there before and we'd like to go again. Had the seafood for 2.
First time at Resto Gare with my partner for my birthday and it was fantastic! Eric was an amazing server, he was professional, prompt, and gave my partner and I amazing hospitality. I appreciate the service he gave to us. The train is beautiful, its definitely a must see and as well as the restaurant. When we went there was a large party in the back of the train and because of the sizing of the train the volume could get quite loud, so it was a bit hard of hearing and had to increase volume to have conversation. But it really did not damper our experience! We were still able to have an amazing dinner ! Thank you to all staff at Resto Gare!
Great food, wonderful drinks, cozy ambiance.
Great food, great atmosphere and great service. Highly recommended.
Great menu full of French classics. Must try the dessert menu. Service is usually great!
Love the food and the drinks ???? and the cheif special is definitely a plus.
Went for lunch. The tourtiere was amazing! Then came the Maple Sugar Pie... OMG! Need to come back for a dinner next.
We enjoyed our Dine Out Winnipeg meals.
Went there with the family for Mother's Day Brunch. I tried a number of things from the buffet, including mushroom chicken and asparagus. Unfortunately the only thing I actually liked was the eggs Benedict (chicken was overcooked and asparagus didn't have any taste). My daughter had tried some mussels and found one was good, the other tasted really bad. Plus the cost was $40 each, PLUS $3.50 for coffee. Mimosas were $7.50! Too rich for our blood! Never again!
Food was mediocre but the service was exceptional. I bet sitting in the car would be super cool but they had a private event that night.
Its always a fun evening at reasonable prices for the beautiful setting
I have been here several times and I am never disappointed. My friend and I always start off with the bread basket with balsamic and oil dip. Followed by the cheese board. Depending on the specials, we usually order one of those and an order of beef bourguignon. This is the only place I will order it. I suggest the Maple Pie for dessert and Sangria. I love eating in the train car. It’s cozy and quaint.
Our waiter Mathieu was very personable and friendly. What a lovely place for a special night out. Food was very tasty. As was the wine!
Amazing service and extremely safe covid procedures. The patio is beautiful and the food is incredible. Highly recommended.
The food was amazing. They were very kind to us.
Went to Resto Gare for dinner last night and every aspect of the experience was exquisite! The patio was stunning, the servers were kind and prompt, and every single cocktail and plate were beyond expectation. Would highly recommend the champagne cocktails and their cheese plate!
We had our wedding there on the weekend..the food the service the whole team was amazing If I could rate them 10 stars plus that is what I would give them My guest were blown away how good the food and service was..we had 85 people and they did not skip a beat!!!!everything was outstanding from the begining to the end!! Thank you for taking such good care of all us !!
Pleasantly surprised. Great atmosphere.
Onion soup is excellent
Delicious as usual
Excellent place to eat, if you have a special someone to take for a meal this is the place. It is definitely one of my favorite stops, between Curtis and the chef(Melissa currently) it is an experience that is difficult to match. I frequent some of the best restaurants in the city and bistro gare continues to impress me with the service and quality of food, even more surprisingly at exceptionally reasonable prices. Don't be a fool give this st b a gem a try.
To be frank, this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The service was amazing, the food was incredible, and the overall aesthetic of the place was beautiful. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The food came out quickly, and it was melt-in-your-mouth good. Don't hesitate to make this your next stop. It's worth your time.
Pleasant environment and beautifully prepared and presented food.
Amazing restaurant! Food is excellent and references to the French cuisine abound. I had the pleasure of dining here twice and both experiences were splendid. My wife and I would like to congratulate the owners and the chefs. Definitely recommended!
One of my most favorite places to go. Absolutely love the food and the service is the best.
The food and the service were both excellent but the live music was too loud. It was impossible to talk to one another. People were actually trying to yell over the music so it took away from the enjoyment of our evening.
Food was good, and decent plate sizes. However it was very slow. Took about 20 min to get drinks and they were out of one drink we ordered. Also when he told us the specials he mentioned there were only 2 steaks left, a few of us wanted this special and talked it out to see which one of us was going to change their order. Overall, good food, but slow and staff didn't have very good menu knowledge.
Wonderful spot for date night or going out with friends. Absolutely love their patio, but it can be a bit noisy at times but still worth it. Fantastic food and always consistently great service.
The train car was super cute, very cozy and comfortable. I had the escargot and French onion soup and they were amazing! I was a little confused by the French menu as I didnt recognize any words but the dishes were described and honestly everything sounded delicious, I'm sure I would have been happy with anything. I will definitely be visiting again!
We have been going here for years, one of Winnipeg`s finest restaurants.
Service is slow, bad food is unreasonably expensive. Soup was too hot, steak was cold and not properly cooked. Clumsy waiter was not friendly. We let them know it's a birthday, they did nothing to commemorate the special occasion. It's a bad joke, not a restaurant. There are lots of better places in Winnipeg. Take your friends somewhere else, not to this one.
I recently attended a corporate event and I want to say, that the staff was outstanding, the food was exceptionally good, and the overall service experience was a home-run. Great job!
Tried something different and it tasted great. Went for lunch. Great ambiance.
What a great place to go for dinner. Amazing food quality. Great cozy environment. Food is really worth the money. The assorted cheese platter is delicious to start with. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended!!
Always excellent. Prime.Rib and appies are amazing
Great service with a good variety.
The salmon was amazing!
What a great place! The food is so wonderful and service is great.
Spent a wonderful Mother's Day at Resto Gare and got to sit on the famous train! Food was out of this world with French ambiance throughout, including musique from Paris and french decor-the variety of food for brunch exceeded our expectations for sure- the buffet was always hot and plentiful every time we went to fill our plates. We especially enjoyed the fresh omelette bar and ham carving station...never mind the desserts! Can't wait to go back and hit their patio this summer! Service from Curtis superb-he sure knows his stuff!
Absolutely love this place! Hidden pearl of our city! Music, atmosphere, great service and delicious food! Fondue from brie with berrie jam on top and crunchy baguette - mmmm, taste like heaven! Risotto with seafood - I definitely return to eat this dish again. And again.
Over priced and average service
Went here for an anniversary dinner and thankfully it was fairly quiet. The service, from Brian, was good but he was quite monotone and expressionless. Food was served quickly and tasted delicious. Near the end of our meal two new groups came in and got seated right beside each other, and very close to us, in the otherwise empty train car. Also, a different server came over and stood right beside us with his mask down to talk to one of the tables. Good thing we were leaving, as I would not have been comfortable spending the whole meal that close to others.
Food was great food, one appetizer we ordered came 30 min later, we reserved to sit in the train confirmed by email, when we arrived it was full and was seated in the common area.
Went here with a group of over 20 people from work. Sat in the train which is lovely but a bit cramped in a large group as it makes conversing difficult. The plan was for everyone to choose from 4 prechosen menu choices, but I was told that if you don't like any of the 4 choices you could order off the menu. As it turned out I didn't want to order one of the 4 choices, so I mentioned to the waitress that I wanted to order off the menu. The waitress was very upset with this & told me that the chef had spent a lot of time preparing the 4 choices today, so he wants us to choose from what he prepared. I explained that i understand this, but none of the choices appeal to me & that i wasnt hungry for a 4 course meal. The waitress went back & forth me explaining the same thing over & over again. Finally she said that she would have the manager come & speak with me. She returned shortly thereafter & said that the manager agreed to allow me to order off the menu, but next time it won't be allowed‼ The food i received was good & was made correctly. The meal was to have coffee/tea included, but the waitress said that since she is the only server she couldn't get our bills handed out & our coffee served at the same time. There were several servers standing around who could have helped, but it seemed that it just was too much effort required to provide the service. Half an hour later she did offer the coffee & tea to everyone, but by then most of our group had left. My experience & rating of this restaurant would have been higher if the service would have been better.
Fantastic service, food was delicious, and staff were superb. Loved dining in the old train car. Was all in all a beautiful evening out.
This is the place to go for a date, anniversary or a higher class night out with friends. Very romantic at a very reasonable price. The food quality is some of the best in Winnipeg.
Very cool to eat in an old train. The food here is tasty and you get much bigger portion sizes compared to most French restaurants I've been to.
Fabulous service and fantastic food with jazz music to listen to.
My wife and I celebrated our 11th anniversary here for dinner and the experience was definitely first class. The food we ate were very well presented and the taste's very much so. Staff friendly too and Linda (i believe was her name, a manager if not) was very approachable and was kind enough to take us on picture tour on the outside garden. Well recommended and will be coming back for future dates and socials.
I had the French onion soup and a salad for lunch. The soup broth wasn't the rich, beef broth I was hoping for. It was too heavy on the Worcestershire sauce. Portions were good, but overall, the food didn't measure up to the prices.
Amazing food. Linda made it happen for us to get on to the patio for Thur jazz music night. It was our 28th wedding anniversary. Such a beautiful place to eat. Food is outstanding. Thank you to Matt our server.
Very nice location, we were told by many friends this place was top notch. We got there and right away could tell they were understaffed, our waiter was nice to give us the features of the day and we both selected the rib steak feature. Our waiter seemed very disappointed in us for wanting our sauce served on the side and said no when we requested some gravy with our potatoes as he said the dish didn’t need it which I found quite rude. Our starter escargot was amazing especially in the sauce, when we got our mains we were disappointed the steaks were both over done, and quick frankly just dry. Halfway through eating the server came back to check on us and finally offered to bring the sauce we had originally asked for. The wine and atmosphere was great.
Staff was second only to the meal. Could be one of the best filet mignon I've ever had.
Fine French cuisine with attentive and friendly staff. The dining rail car is a must for an amazing aesthetic experience. Leave room for dessert!
I was really stoked to try this place, the menu looked so good & filled with things I wanted to eat. The taste of the food itself however did not meet or exceed my expectations. Our server was super friendly & kind. I just found the downside to here was the food wasn't as flavorful as other places within the city. Great ambience & vibe tho!
The food was delicious and the service was fast and friendly. Very nice atmosphere
Fantastic atmosphere for business lunch meetings as well as relaxing evening dinner. Outstanding service!
Great food and ambiance.
An intetesting setup with a lot of history - a train and a train station. The food was Ok with a Good presentation - nothing special in my opinion. Service was Ok. Good selection and choice from the menu. Its definitely not exclusive French cusine. We were visiting from out of town and It was indeed a nice change. Definitely recomending this place for a special ocassion as It can get expensive, depending on what you order.
I love Resto Gare. I have never had a bad experience. They have GREAT food. I suggest trying the cheese platter and maybe the grilled veggie sandwich. mmmmm. Service was fast and friendly and the jazz nights are pretty rad too!
Delicious meal, well sized portions. The crème brûlée might just be the best in the city!
I am currently waiting with my family of 9 for over an hour to receive our food. We have reserved at 6pm and ordered by 630pm and still are waiting for our food for the current time of 8. The service is not of standard for expectation we thought would be a good restaurant. Unfortunately, the service is why I am servicing this restaurant as a two star. Hopefully the food is better than the service. Decor is pleasant. Not friendly staff.

Meal type
We have used Resto Gare for a number of our clients' initial meetings. The feedback we have received is always very positive. People love the delicious food, excellent service, and the quiet ambience. It is a perfect setting for conversation and decadent food!
Great atmosphere and great food.
(Translated) Very atypical place. Part of the restaurant is in a converted train to a nice place (Original) Lieu très atypique. Une partie du restau se trouve dans un train reconvertie à lieu sympa
Friendly staff & beautiful interior. Food was wonderful - best caesar salad! A slow/relaxed dining experience so would plan time for that but that was fine for us :)
Great prime rib!
Very nice french restaurant. We stayed in the train car, which has a nice feel to it. Nice servers, great tasting food
(Translated) An excellent meal of original and tasty French cuisine with impeccable professional service is - welcomed. Very pleasant atmosphere on the terrace with music is the beautiful sun today. Even the house wine and bread was good. A little expensive and certainly not for those who like chains and frying. Bravo bravo to all the staff is the chef.
Friendly staff and fast service in a unique setting. Would recommend but not top place. The food was good but fairly standard.
A little pricey but a great meal. Great feel no matter where you are seated but the nostalgic feel to the train is my favorite. Great time. I will go back for sure.
Amazing food, beautiful restaurant.
The food was mediocre, however as a group we waited 2 hours for food to be served, and they forgot about my drink order for quite some time. The prices were high as well. I wouldn't recommend it or go back.
Cute. Amazing food and friendly bougey service.
Awsome food! Awsome service!
Spent a beautiful rainy day here. It was amazing. Food was fantastic.
Went to celebrate my birthday, food was fantastic, service was great, all staff were friendly, helpful and were constantly cleaning to keep us safe. If you want flavorful food, a good wine list and nice ambiance, visit Resto Gare.
This place was a great experience for a small group. I feel as though 2-4 people would be the ideal amount, especially if you’re looking for seating in the train. It would get a little cramped for space otherwise. Great food, well worth the price. The only criticism would be the servers and staff, they could have been more hospitable, but we came in on a very busy evening so its justified. I wish they had live jazz on more nights throughout the week, I feel as though that’d be a great addition. Got the beef bourguignon, and escargot, would highly recommend. Would gladly come back and try out different items on their menu.
My husband and I went to Resto Gare for our Anniversary on July 5th. The evening was perfect. We were asked if we wanted to go outside for the Jazz entertainment, but my husband suggested we eat in the dining room as he loves the decor of the room and wanted the soft music playing in the background so we could talk. My dinner consisted of the Lobster Bisque, Rack of Lamb and the Lemon pie. My husband had a Salad and the evening special Rib Eye Steak. My dinner was excellent, appropriately seasoned, hot foods were hot and delicous. The lemon pie was not the traditional lemon pie with meringue, but rather a lemon filling that was tarte topped with real whip cream and a special sauce and very appropriate after a large dinner. My husband said his steak was so tender, it could be cut with his fork. The staff were attentive and helped to make the evening a memorable experience.
The food is fantastic; rich, delicious, and beautifully presented. The staff is even better - the exact right combination of knowledgeable, attentive, funny, and charming.
Classic French and French Canadian cuisine done very well in an entertaining atmosphere. Service great. Thank goodness for the parking. Appetizer are pricey.
Very nice food....dessert was ok
Wonderful food! A great experience with service available in English et en français aussi! The train car is also a beautiful environment to dine in.
It was amazing thankyou.. Best steak ever
Excellent service, food, & atmosphere!
This restaurant is a treasure. Excellent service and the food is out of this world. We strongly recommend you have the Bourguignon Poutine!!!
Good dining experience
Food was great but service was a little slow
Fabulous - attention to detail and service. Enjoyable place with delicious food. Love the train car and the summer music evenings.
We had our wedding reception in the train car that we had booked privately for our event of just over 20 people. There were SO many amazing menu options to pick from for our guests, and all the guests raved about how good the food was! Portions were great, the service from Robert & Alexie was so friendly and organized (and bilingual!). The quality & presentation of the food was amazing! Linda, who helped organize the event and was my contact person leading up to the evening, was fabulous! She was responsive and organized! The evening was a success!! They were able to accommodate with dairy-free options for food allergies! We brought our decor to personalize the train car. It was a perfect space for that size of a group, even leaving a bit of room for a few younger children to roam. I would highly recommend Resto Gare for a large group of people and will certainly be going back just the two of us!!
Really great atmosphere. Customer service was amazing. Decadent food.
Great food, outstanding service. The salmon was excellent.
Great food. atmosphere very nice.
Great wine and great food!
Fantastic!!!
Went in today for the first time. Enjoyed the best French Onion soup ive had in this city (Norwood’s is really good too). Curtis was an excellent host/sommelier. The prices were surprisingly within reach despite how many times I’ve heard it’s an “expensive” place...
Awesome food and service!!!
Went tonight for my birthday and ate on the patio. The food was simply amazing, great atmosphere and our server Matt was fantastic. We will for sure be back again.
Nice ambiance, though the food was mediocre. Service was decent. Did not like the fact that they left a trolley full of desserts out the entire time we were there. Approximately 2 hours. By the time the waiter came around to our table with that shcifia of a dessert carrozza, we were turned off thinking how long it had been sitting out .
Very nice place! Pleasant staff and excellent food.
Love the train.
Great Food. Daily special was creative and tasted great!
I am disappointed with their food. Majority of the food are too salty and the service is very slow.
7.14.2017 They lost stars based on .. Our server was Matt. I had wanted lobster risotto as a side to my filet mignon. I asked him how much, he said it would be $8 and I was fine with that. I got my bill, saw that I was charged $15 and told him I was not happy with that price and that he should have come back to confirm a higher price (as I would not have agreed to pay that for a side.) His response "oh.". Not only that I was in a party so there is automatic gratuity, I would have preferred to give 7% so that the back end could have something.. but Matt did not deserve it bad on 2 things. 1. Although I ordered sparkling water, my regular water was not refilled. 2. He did not try to amend his $15 mistake, no apology or change in price. Just a mere "Oh." Wait Staff should be appropriately trained for this type of situation, he seemed clueless. -1star staff Second, the lobster risotto was not done well.. it was stringed lobster mixed in overcooked with "too much liquid that was not absorbed " risotto. Also the Filet Mignon, which I asked for "mid-rare closer to rare" came back Medium-well. Need to work on their timing. ... The 3 stars is strictly given to the Duck Pate starter special, the Lobster Bisque. Both of which I would order again. And the restaurant itself is pretty cool, an old train car turned into a dining room. All mentioned are photographed and attached.
Amazing atmosphere even more amazing food. Worth every penny!
We ordered a tourtière to bake at home and a Caesar salad for a Friday night treat. Both were fantastic! I wish I’d taken a photo of the tourtière - it had a pastry train on top! And speaking of the pastry, it was delicious, as was the filling. The salad had just the right amount of anchovy in the dressing and the romaine was crisp and fresh. This is our second pandemic dinner treat from Resto Gare, but I assure you it won’t be our last.
Delicious as always - would have a picture to post if I wasn't so exited to eat the food
The kitchen is on fire.
Visited on a Friday with a few friends. The restaurant was severely under-staffed and the servers looked overworked. It took close to half an hour to get our drinks, never mind having been checked on if we need some refills, and over an hour to get our food. We also felt slightly rushed as we got our food about 7 mins before they were closed and was approached by 2 different servers and told "It's okay if you guys stay 5-10 mins past close." At least 3 other tables that came after us were served before us even if we ordered starters and small dishes. The cheese plate was slightly disappointing, especially for a french restaurant. They tasted like your ordinary grocery store cheeses that you certainly could have bought and prepared yourself. I did very much enjoy the Saint-Jacque I ordered, though. I am hoping to try again in the future when the provincial restrictions and current climate of the pandemic allows the restaurant to operate at its normal capacity.
Best restaurant EVER. The food is always amazing.
Delicious! Clean and friendly. They even give you electrical fly swatters for outdoors. Dinner and a show!
The service was very good; we had our waters refilled promptly without asking. We had the Ham Croissant, Salmon Filet, Caesar Salad with Salmon, and Mac & Cheese. The presentation was great, the food was very flavorful, and the portions were generous. It's a nice atmosphere as well.
Classic French Bistro, great food, great service!
Tried something on their new menu, it was breakfast with the strawberry french toast with cream cheese and fudge bits. So good!!!!!! I forget the name of it.
Resto Gare is my favourite place to meet with friends and enjoy fabulous food. Rack of Lamb always a treat and Chef Melissa's daily specials are never disappointing ! Friendly staff/servers always accommodating and you are never rushed ! Can't wait for my next visit !
Not sure how this place has 4.5 stars? I guess I just have really bad luck with food orders.. Ordered Poutine, Mac and Cheese, French Onion Soup, Scallops, Caesar Salad, Tarte au sucre à l'érable & Creme Brule through Skip the dishes.. Figured hey why not give them a chance and support local Well, ignoring the.. smaller portion sizes (which what ever, theme "high end" what else is new)... getting 1/4 cup of onion soup for 9.00 is just not acceptable in any way or form... 21 for Scallops? as described on the menu "Seared scallops, sautéed bacon, mushrooms, swiss cheese, béchamel and herbed bread crumb.".... What do I get? 5 "Seared" (i'd get a better sear with a match) and a lemon wedge... that's it, that's all.. If I wanted to spend 21$ and be disappointed I'd go to a bar and try to pick someone up The Ceasar salad? at least they followed my directions when i asked for no capers Definitely not a place I'd be a repeat customer of
Was the first time here and all I can say is amazing. Had the bison and elk combo with risotto. Absolutely delicious...a must try for any meat lover. A must is their famous maple sugar pie...the crust is sooooo flaking. We were blessed to have Curtis as our gracious host. If you have never tried Resto Gare...you better try them. Will definitely be a regular now. A true gem.
Great food and sitting in an old train that is heated during the winter is very cool
Very tasty food fresh ingredients and nice setting, good service ,this place is perfect for a romatnic date ... be prepared to spend little extra
Great food, large portions. Great music on the outdoor patio...Thursday Jazz
The presentation of h'ors d'oeuvres and meal was excellent! Great staff!
Staff was second only to the meal. Could be one of the best filet mignon I've ever had.
We arranged for a larger party during covid restrictions for my wife's first birthday after our son passed away. I say this because the staff had no idea how important it was this evening go off without a hitch. And man did they go above and beyond while making it feel like that is just how they operate. Would highly recommend. The food is aaaaalways high quality and the service is perfect. They have no idea who we are and how many times we have come and they still always make us feel at home.
Truly exceptional service, one of the most charming settings and patio in the city. Authentic, top quality cuisine and reasonably priced. Great even just for a drink and dessert. Highly recommended!
We were here for a family dinner and it was excellent. We were promptly greeted and seated. The decor is period in style very pleasant and inviting. The service and the meal were topnotch. The menu is varied and my favourite was the pork tenderloin. Dessert is brought to the table on a trolley and is a very nice touch. When back in the city we will certainly dine here again.
Amazing food!
Favourite Restaurant in the City!
Linda makes sure all details are looked after, atmosphere is wonderful, staff are knowledgeable and respect your opinions, Chef Melissa does a wonderful job in the kitchen with all types of food preparation, She has the staff aware of her requirements and the customers, wonderful wine selection and all other beverages... Job well done...!!!
Always a good time, food never fails. Curtis is the man.
Food was ok....the rack of lamb was in need of some spice.....BUT our waiter was extremely rude!!!!!
Go for the desserts here. They are just amazing!
The meal was excellent. Quality of food, meal and ingredients are on top. The meal aee diversified and are all homemade. The interior and exterior is very clean. Great service, people working in the restaurant are very nice and and the price is not to high for the quality. In short very original with the train l, great quality of food and great service.
Had a party of 50 people. Our servers were polite, efficient and very accommodating. Just terrific service and food!
We were a party of 12 and went last night. While the food was good, the service was extremely slow. The server wasn't all that friendly either. When it came time for all of us to pay our separate bills, just my daughter was approached by the server who there is a 15% gratuity added but since its christmas you could add some more tips. She was the only one he said this to and we shocked at the audacity of him when the service was nothing special. Most of the people were only and I feel he took advantage of her because she was young. She felt intimidated and shocked so she gave him extra.
Food was very good, but SLOOOOW...very slow.
Always great food, great service and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended
Excellent food, excellent and knowledgeable service by Robert. Top notch all around.
Lovely French cuisine, delicious and very inviting restaurant. Loved the patio too
Amazing food and amazing staff that was very helpful with answering questions about the different menu options. It was awesome that the owner of the establishment came out and asked us how our food was as well, you don't get that very often with other places. So that was a plus.
Best place to get French food in Winnipeg.
Went on my first date with my wife here 42 years ago. Although revamped from then still a wonderful impressive place and service.
What a wonderful experience, the food is delish. The staff is amazing, beautiful, caring people. The atmosphere is wonderful. Thank you all for making my 65th birthday a very remarkable experience.
Super friendly service and intimate atmosphere
Mostly Classic French cooking fare, with some Italian influence apparently
Delicious food! Fantastic Service
The food was amazing and the environment was romantic, will definitely be back!
Been here 4 times now in the span of a year, and it's 4 for 4. Great service, friendly staff, awesome food. Definitely a favorite.
They are friendly
Great food and atmosphere. Went to Thursday night Jazz on the roof. Very good. Servers very attentive but not overbearing.
The best restaurant in Winnipeg....the service and food are the best.

Great food and service. Bathrooms could use renovating and smelled a bit off.
Bread was nice. Overpriced, small portions, dated
Food was amazing, will definitely be going back
Absolutely fantastic! The restaurant itself is very nice and very unique. Our server was great, very funny! The food got to us quickly and was really really good. We tried the Mac and cheese, poutine and peanut butter creme brulee which were all fantastic! Will definitely be going again.
Food was s great
Resto Gare is our "go to" destination for birthday celebrations! The food is exceptional and consistently delicious, and the service...well....that's impeccable. Yesterday, the staff went the "extra mile", providing us with a spectacular meal (albeit "take-out"). Looking forward to being able to dine in once again, as this restaurant is one of Winnipeg's finest.
Special place, great food
Their pink zinfandel is phenomenal. Great restaurant to share an atmosphere that allows for great conversation between friends and loved ones. Also super cool when a train goes by while you're in the train car. Makes you feel like it's actually moving.
The service was excellent and atmosphere was adequate. On to the important parts: the food. The menu is very attractive on paper, as is the wine list. But the execution leaves a bit to be desired. Claims have been made that Resto Gare is the finest French restaurant in town. I said to myself "ok, let's see about that". I decided to order the two items which, as a Frenchman from Aquitaine, are staples in France a that speak to the rest of the menu: escargots and duck confit for my entrée. The escargot was presented in a typical fashion; baked in a small cast-iron pan with mushrooms. But the brown sauce? Overwhelming for such a delicate flavour as snails. I couldn't taste them. Had it not been for the texture, they could have been serving me dumplings for all I knew, so overbearing was the sauce. I think that the chef fell into a typical habit when attempting French cuisine - take something simple and complicate it. It's escargot. Keep it simple. Butter, fresh parsley, bake. Maybe a little flambée with some Cognac... anything but brown beef-based sauce. On to the duck confit. The duck itself was fine. It's hard to mess up duck confit short of burning it. The presentation on the other hand, had nothing in common with French cooking. It was served on a bed of rice with a piece of pineapple, a piece of beet, and a single Brussel sprout. I can not think of anything less French than a bed of rice, unless they were going for an Indo-China theme. Ever heard of "pommes Lyonnaises"? Those are potatoes cut with a melon-baller and sauteed, preferably in duck-fat and onions. That would be much more appropriate. Or asparagus. Or roasted endives. Or a bed of red lentils. Anything but rice. And please, enough with the fancy plates; a 15x30 rectangular plate is annoying. Every time I rested my cutlery to stop and savour the dish, they'd fall off. Just use a normal plate. All these weird square plates restaurants are using nowadays are pretentious. Finally, there's my wife's Ceasar salad. Her only complaint was that the lettuce could have been fresher. Not sure if they're getting it from a supplier like Cisco. If so, please stop and find a different source. The dressing didn't taste fresh made. If it was, keep trying... you'll get there. The bread basket was excellent, and I suspect they're getting it from A l'épi de blé on Main Street - the finest bakery in the city. As for the rest of the details, I was pleased that they serve Pernod and Ricard - check in the box for any French restaurant. Armagnac - another check. Small detail here. Don't serve Pernod on ice. If somebody did that in Marseille, they'd get laughed out of town. Pastis is properly served straight up with a small pitcher of ice-cold water on the side for the customer to pour himself to taste. I was pleased to have proper cloth napkins, but for the love of food please set the table correctly. If I wanted my cutlery rolled-up in a napkin I'd go to Earl's. All-in-all, a worthy attempt. I understand how hard it is to find restaurant help willing to make it a career, which is key to a French restaurant - you can't do it with people who are just using it as a job to pay for university. I don't know if this is the case. If it is a career chef working back there, then I think it would be a worthwhile investment to send this person to Bordeaux for 6 months to see how it's done there. Or even Quebec City. I know you'll never find the quality ingredients in Canada that you will in France, but still. Don't serve escargots in brown sauce, or duck on rice! I'm not saying to go for a Michelin star (overrated), just that there is the French way of doing thing, and then there's everyone else's. This was about half-way there. Finally, the menu was in the wrong order. In France it's appetiser, soup, entrée, salad, cheese, then dessert. They had the cheese plate with the appetisers. Weird. I'd go again, because I really want a proper French restaurant in Winnipeg, and the kind gentleman from Alsace serving us made a very good impression. But next time I'll order the lamb.
The food was decent, but the service was extremely slow and not attentive at all. There was empty glasses and plates on the table which never got picked up. We ordered desert and after waiting almost 30 minutes for it to arrive we ended up flagging down the waiter to cancel desert and get our bill so we could make it to our play. If you have a event planned after dinner this is not the place to go! We won't be back.
Food is very tasty, service was awesome and professional .
This is the best dining experience I have ever had in Winnipeg, no contest. Our server (Curtis) was knowledgeable, friendly and had an almost supernatural ability to know when to visit the table or start the next course. The food was spectacular: visually compelling and delicious. The train itself is beautiful, and the amosphere was formal, but very warm and friendly. I will definitely be recommending Resto Gare in the future!
I've been to this restaurant on a few occasions. The staff took great care of us, the food is excellent and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. We will definitely return!
Delicious food, courteous service, & lovely atmosphere.
Great place to eat fair prices ????
We had a fantastic dinner here.
We had a lovely evening... The pickeral was great.... Our table was decorated with flowers and glitter for our fortieth anniversary... Can't wait to go back. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great food
Food excellent service excellent
The food was delicious. Neat and unique environment, definitely a different kinda place inside the train bar for a date night
Excellent evening. Food was great, very tasty. The bœuf bourguignon was superb, so too the French Onion soup. A timeless French classic done perfectly. Baked brie, with apricot jelly and pecan nuts. Now was this a surprise! I usually bake my cheeses with rosemary or thyme, and chardonnay. The sweet worked perfectly here. My next baked brie will be with my mothers homemade apricot jam. We will be back, there's a substantive menu we need to explore. Kudo's for seeing my favorite South African wine on the wine list. From the town of Stellenbosch, where I was born and raised, before immigrating tio Canada at age 48, Post House Missing Virgin Pinotage.a Classic Pinotage and Petit Verdot blend. brilliant wine. Cant believe it took me 4 years in Winnipeg before finally making it to Resto Gare. We will be back. There is a rack of lamb with my name on it...
did not enjoy it
Friendly staff, nice food
Resto Gare is our go to restaurant for business and social needs, from business lunches to corporate functions to family birthdays. The food is always fabulous and the service matches it.
My husband and I brought a group of friends to Resto Gare for a dinner out. We were impressed with the variety of choices on the menu. We were all raving about our food choices when the meals arrived. The table went quiet as everyone was enjoying their meals. My French onion soup was delicious. The food was incredible as was the service.
Fantastic staff and excellent food! Will definitely be back.
Booked a tablenfor 8 on short notice on a SUNDAY, which is typically busy. Accommodations in the train section are quite nice, and it gives a romantic atmosphere
Fantastic !!!!!
Great food and service at reasonable price.
I really liked the food !
Our experience here was perfect! Even with a party of 8 (including kids), we were served quickly and warmly. The food was amazing, and eating in the train car was a great experience. Obviously, the place is pricey, but even the little bit of leftovers I took home was better reheated than some food I've had in other places! I'm not familiar with French food, so I can't speak to it's authenticity, but the joy taken in serving us was definitely genuine.
Great food, fair prices
I visited Resto Gare with my siblings at the beginning of July. My sister and I shared the chateaubriand, my brother had the salmon, and my other sister had the boeuf bourguignon. All our meals were absolutely delicious. Everything was done perfectly to taste--not an easy task with the chateaubriand since my sister likes her beef cooked considerably more well done than I!--the portions appropriate, and the plates beautifully presented. We also ordered one of the specialty red wines from the extensive wine list and it was one of the best wines I've had in a very long time. The pace of the meal was relaxed, so we didn't feel rushed, but not so slow that we felt ignored. The meal was not
My two friends and I have had several lunches at Resto Gare over the last three years. We love the ambiance of the train car. The lunch menu is great and specials are always interesting. Service is impeccable. We will return again at least once next year. We meet 2-3 times a year. St Boniface is the geographic middle ground between us all. Merci beacoup.
Great food. Cute venue
Amazing food! Staff are incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our meal enjoyable. Would highly recommend!
Excellent flavours and service.
Excellent food, attention in an unique environment. If you are thinking in a banquet for 10 people, do not hesitate! This is the place!
Great ambiance and fantastic food and service!
The scallops in bechamel are to die for! The cut of steak on the steak frites was lower grade, could do with broiling to caramelize the fats. Portion sizes are average.
Great service, and overall great experience.
The atmosphere is great. The staff very personable and the food is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone.
