You must have seen that the average score it has is practically the top, and it's based on a very high number of opinions, so we may think that the valuation is very credible. If many people have bothered to value when they've done well with the business, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to write tatings when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...

We had dinner here on our last night in Quebec and it was not a disappointment. Reservations are required here, as it's quite in demand. Although the restaurant is somewhat hidden and off the main touristy traps, the food here is excellent. The prices aren't exactly of fine dining type, but nevertheless at the upper border of mid-range. The service was OK, not the fastest and not the slowest. The meal portions aren't large, but this is not the place you go to stuff yourself. All in all, I'd highly recommend.
Stylish and comfortable. The staff was friendly and courteous. Food was tasty and varied with quality ingredients. Prices are as expected for a fancier breakfast joint
Loved the food there, it was small and simple but it really fulls you up and it's delicious.
Great food. Awesome staff. Tried The smoothie, Mushroom, pedro italiano, and coffee. All were greAt
Good food. Friendly and professional servers. A nice selection of wine. A bit overpriced and the salmon was a bit overcooked, but that justifies taking off only one star.
Best meal we got in a very long time. Will return for sure. On top of the food quality, the service was great and the ambiance was exactly what we were looking for.
This place is really a Wooo! There’re some super cute seats near the window with the light it’s so christmasy. We ordered 6 plates to share between 4 people and it’s amazing! The chef would come to your table and introduce you the dishes each time. Price is also affordable for the taste and quality of the food
Tldr: over all pretty nice. Food was pretty good! Tried the bison, scallop, black puddings and the oyster. Bison was very good, really flavourful. The side bits with some bacon and other vegetables tastes really good. Black puddings was their speciality, but personally I didn't find it to be that good. Scallop was not as I expected. The clams came with it was pretty dry and I don't think it fits the fish. Oyster was great, really opens up your appetite! Desert was awesome! Didnt expect it to be that flavourful. Pretty popular spot so make sure you make your reservation early! The spot was packed and you need to provide your vaccine proof so make sure you have it. Service is really nice!
The place is located off the main streets of old Quebec, but still close by. The street isn't packed with people, but neither it is deserted. You're still in the old town, and dining in, probably, one of the best restaurants in Quebec City (I'll be honest, I haven't been to many, but this would be very hard to beat). The patio seating is cozy, they offer blankets for a chilly evening, the servers are knowledgeable, fluently bilingual (and very patient with someone trying to practice French), and menu is quirky. The portions are not large, I would say on the smaller size, but the taste is out of this world. We've had 4 dishes: 1. Houle & Vent de Fraicheur (Octopus) was was very soft (which is often hard to get out of this sea creature) and the melon sauce and cucumber sorbet that accompanied it added a refreshing and interesting note to it. 2. Mignon Terry à Qui (Tartar) was delicious as well. I'm someone who usually isn't comfortable with raw beef, but the spices and sauce removed the rawness of it, but didn't overpower the taste and ensured that you're enjoying good quality meat that doesn't need to be cooked. 3. L’Homme Que a Vu l'Ours (Veal) was just just... Perfect. The combination of the sauces, wild mushrooms and tenderness of the meat creates a wonderful palete and makes you savor every single bite. 4. Anna Pavlova. It's not your ordinary meringue desert, but a combination of light cream, sweet berries and refreshing sorbet. A great end to this luscious evening. tl;rd. Please visit this place if you want to treat yourself and your taste buds. Last advise: Share everything and order one plate at a time!
This place has great atmosphere. Very quaint. Waitstaff were excellent. Food was great. Good portions. Not too much. Definitely a place to stop by when in town.
Great experience with french food. The service was great and it was mostly because of friendly staff. I recommend you to taste the soup of the day ; which was for me carrot and scallop and nuts. The price is average and high ; so prepare yourself for a surprising bill! Also there are plenty of different wines here. If you are fan of wine and sea food , definitely it is a good choice !
Food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Really enjoyed our meal. Decor is warm and tasteful. Service was good but not great. Just seemed a bit understaffed. Servers were very pleasant. Had beet salad, ravioli, and beef shoulder - would definitely recommend!
It was a Monday evening, the place was surprisingly busy (we arrived just soon after opening) and had a great atmosphere. The food was superb and waiting staff extremely attentive without being intrusive. They happily and easily switched from French to English and back again throughout the evening and talked us through the menu to help us decide what to order. I'd almost return to Quebec solely so I could eat here again :-)
Tried this restaurant out based on reviews. Overall a good experience and nice food. The only thing which could be improved in my opinion is the food pairings as some dishes had flavors which did not match great or overpowered one another. For example the halibut although flaky and cooked perfectly was completely overshadowed by the sweet richness of the rasberry jus (it was just too much). This really is a question of quality fresh ingredients speaking for themselves rather than being overly developed into something which you can no longer appreciate with your pallet. Can't fault them for trying new things though and the desserts were also very good - interesting point, I may have had the best cappuccino i can remember in a long time! Finally, service was good although a little unatentive. Quite an amount of staff but not too much presence at the tables...they seemed rushed and busy despite there only being 14 tables in the entire restaurant. Overall good and would recommend 4/5
Outstanding delicious experience. With top notch service, great cocktails/wine list, innovative & local food & delectable desserts!
My single most favourite restaurant in the city. Every time I go I love it even more; the staff is always helpful, caring and professional and the food is always fresh and delicious! Stop scrolling through Quebec City's restaurants, you've found the one!!
Excellent combination of food and great service. We had an amazing evening in a nice atmosphere and enjoyed interesting dishes: all ingredients were carefully chosen and prepared to play nicely together but still preserve their own aromes. An outstanding experience! Without being intrusive, service was always at our disposal, and was really helpful when we could not decide on which course to take.
I usually don't like prix fix menus, but the New Years menu pleasantly surprised me. Delicious from start to finish. We added the oysters and cava aperitif and they were lovely. I think the server's name was Emily- she was attentive and didn't rush us. Loved the extra touches- like a blanket since the window seat was drafty on the super cold night and the decor is cozy and cool.
Probably my favorite restaurant in Quebec. Excellent wine list. Amazing food with decent portions. Friendly staff. Nice outdoor porch area. I highly recommend the lobster and pasta dish and the salmon sashimi. Prices are on the higher end, but definitely worth it.
Me and my compagnon did the whole menu into a single night. 7 orders of two meals and desserts. It was a blast. Everything on the menu is a masterpiece of it's own. Félix was a great guide for this experience, as he was able to organise our servings and drinks into a perfect arrangement and combination of flavors. I highly recommend such experience if you can afford it.
What an amazing brunch we had! From the mimosa du jour and delicious seasonal berry smoothie to the amuse bouche of huckleberry panna cotta to the two entrees and lattes. My entree with homemade smoked salmon, fiddlehead ferns, buckwheat crepes and luscious hollandaise sauce and sea asparagus. Wow, what an incredible dish. My partners Le Forestier dish was also incredible.
Amazing dining experience and exceptional service. Would recommend to anyone going to Quebec City as a must!!!
What a delicious assortment of tastes. Never experienced mushrooms cooked so beautifully. Incredible, attentive service.
Wanted to try something new so I went there. The menu is pretty impressive since all the foods they have are very special. Ordered the black pudding and the soup of the day, pretty happy with them. The waitress (sadly I don’t know her name) is amazingly kind and would help me with many things including explaining stuff on the menu. She also asks me where I’m from and questions like that which makes me feel genial. Service is impeccable and perfect! The atmosphere and decor are good especially with that music. Price is on the higher level but not extremely expensive. You pay for what you get. Overall it’s great. I would come to this restaurant again to try more dishes next time I come to Quebec City.
Great restaurant in a casual setting. The plates had a great level complexity, i would strongly recommend the cavatelli and the octopus.
From the service to the food it was outstanding. Highly recommend this place if you love trying new things. Would definitely go back.
Food was good, and I particularly enjoyed the mushroom and egg dish we received. I felt, however, that other dishes were a bit average and not quite fitting of the pricetag. My red wine was also not spectacular. General vibe of the restaurant is very nice though and the staff were friendly.
One of Quebec few jewels. The menu is tasty and changes with time going with the seasons and there ingredients. From a perfect plate of pasta, a fresh tartare to a pristine grilled cheese everything is worth tasting. The decoration is old time Quebec style and the place is very well maintained. The table service is high class. Far from/NOT a tourist trap.
Best brunch I’ve ever had in years! They even include the coffee. This sea buckthorn bread pudding is absolutely mind blowing. very well balanced and also managed to keep everything very very interesting both flavour wise and texture wise. Shout out to the chef who designed this dish, I love love loved it. Super cozy environment and amazing service. Would highly recommend. I would definitely come back to Quebec City just for their dinner menu to have a more complete experience!
Great lunch. Good soups and salads. Grilled cheese sandwich is formidable.
Amazing food! Gorgeous plates and decorations! But depending on the waiter the waiting time for service can vary significantly.
The food and the service were really good ! It is the type of restaurant that I will definitely come back. The ambience and decor are nice ????.
My husband and I tried everything on the menu. We were very impressed by each plate!!
I had the beef shoulder and my friends had the char and bison. The beef and char melted in my mouth the moment they touched my tongue. It was in that moment I realized what food is truly supposed to taste like; a mixture of mouth-watering sensations coupled with euphoria. My taste buds and spirit were heightened, bringing me closer to enlightment.
Very good food and service. We had the whole sea bass and pork entrees. Both very good! Value was decent for the money. Finished with the meringue dessert which was light and delicious. Really perfect dessert.
Chez Rioux & Pettigrew has a lovely atmosphere and interesting decor. The full view kitchen adds to this very unique and pricey experience. You need to have an adventurous palate as the menu is not at all traditional and may be daunting to some. Our service was disappointing as it took an hour between courses. Of particular note, I got food poisoning we think from the steak tartare. Definitely a disappointing experience for our group.
Unique and original menu! Impeccable service and a cozy venue! Thank you ????
We found this place on Trip Advisor, and had to come since I share the same name. Sooooo glad we did. Four people shared 2 applies and 4 entrees, and every dish was fantastic!!!!! And we haven't even mad e it to dessert!!!
Country-store/shabby chic vibe with fresh and local ingredients paired unusually to make a unique and fantastic dish. Their cocktail menu is also great, but ask them to make something special off the menu.
Beautiful setting and inventive food. Highly recommended for food lovers. We were visiting with in a large group with children and they put us in a separate room giving us a quieter place to enjoy our time together. House haggis and deserts were the highlights. See my other reviews of the town - if you are looking for something mind blowing, there is another option not to miss.
Hands down our best meal in Quebec - and we ate a Chez Muffy! We got the tasting menu and it was amazing. Our bartender was great and we had a wonderful evening. Highly recommended!
My boyfriend and I came here for our evening meal on our weekend in the beautiful Quebec city, we always appreciate good service, and this restaurant stood out by far, the service was excellent, our server was full of great suggestions for wine and food, we were feeling adventurous and went with the surprise 3 course chefs selection, our sever selected a wine to complement the dishes and we were not disappointed! The starter was interesting with a mushroom crème brule, a tasting of fois gras in a savoury cookie, fowl patty and a sweet/savoury cranberry slice, the flavours were a bit strong for our liking but we enjoyed the experience none the less. For the main course we were served the most delicious tuna with scallops and lentils and a touch of creamy sauce, best tuna we have ever had! We closed our meal with a deconstructed light cheesecake - delicious! All with a relaxed vibe and excellent service, for us it was fine dining at its best.
We had the most amazing dinner at Chez Riox & Pettigrew! We had an adorable table for two in the window, the food was amazing, and the service was excellent. Highly recommend!
Nice place for breakfast. They only have five or six different breakfast options but everything we ordered was extremely good.
My husband and I went here during our honeymoon and it was one of the highlights of our trip. I can probably say, our favourite evening and meal spent during our travels in Quebec City. The restaurant has such a beautiful and elegant vibe, our waitress was very friendly and even offered us a glass of wine in the end of our meal to celebrate our occasion. Every bite of our meal was divine, and one of my personal favourites was the delicious cafe liquor drink that was outstanding! Thank you for an amazing experience!
My dad said this is the best brunch he's ever had and we all agreed! Wasn't even that crowded. This place is a no-brainer!
Food is quite nicely done. We had the holiday menu, and generally enjoyed the food. My halibut appertizer was great, as was the salmon (half-cooked to just the right doneness). Very busy place. By the time we left, every table was taken and there were people waiting to get in. And it was a Sunday night as well. They don't take Amex, btw.
Phenomenal brunch! Farm-to-table menu with great service and very cute interior!
A must try brunch spot in Quebec City. My favorite is Légendaire
Amazing service, the food was well balanced and the wine pairings added to each course!! Worth every penny!
Best meal in a long time! Amazing atmosphere, local vibe outside the tourist area, worth the detour!
Great for date night. Great atmosphere, and friendly service. Delicious food.
discovered this place with my friends. great atmosphere and great service. the food was very tasty and looks great. would def come back here when im in town. great job !
My fiance and I had dinner here this past Friday and it was simply exquisite. Each dish was packed with flavour. Our favourite was the beef tartare -- my first time wiping a bowl clean with bread in public! It was also worth the $ considering we ordered two cocktails, and shared two appetizers and two main dishes, for about $150. It did take about 10 minutes to get seated though which is quite a wait when you have a reservation. However, our waiter was great and even recommended a few other restaurants in the area we should try during our weekend stay in the city. I look forward to trying more dishes on this menu!
Amazing food and service. Being a vegetarian, I am picky about what I eat--this restaurant did not disappoint! My meal was exceptional and the best I had in Quebec City. Definitely worth a visit.
Me and my partner stayed in Quebec City for 2 nights, unfortunately a lot of the Restaurants Recommended to us were fully booked. We were staying close by and by chance saw this restaurant in Google maps. My goodness one of the best meals we had in Quebec and top 5 overall we ever had. Each dish was unique and triggered different parts of our taste buds. There was a tasting menu that was reasonably priced. We ordered scallops, oysters, beef tartar, mushroom and pork cheek. Everything was delicious. The pork cheek especially literally melted in our mouths. Service was great and attentive and explained every dish. They have an extensive drinks menu which was reasonably priced as well. The bill in the end was very reasonable, honestly if we were to have the same quality of food and service in Toronto, it would cost us at least 1.5x more. Overall was an awesome experience and meal. Will definitely recommend to others and visit again next time we are here.
Great restaurant with exquisite food. Lovely staff. Oysters were the best we had. Highly recommended.
We had a very enjoyable meal. The enthusiasm of the staff coupled with the thoughtful preparation of the food make it stand out.
Best brunch in Quebec
Nice spot, sweet people, staff great, food delicious, very small so you better made a reservation!
I had the oysters and the beef tartare and it was really nice! I could also have a taste of the porc belly and it was amazing. The cocktails are also really good.!
Is there a need for yet another 5* review? Actually, yes. Our server was Zachary who worked hard to make our night extra special with his care and attention. And, as for the food, the dishes were a fantastic well balanced combination of flavour and texture. Even the beef tartare (I don't usually like beef. Or tartare.) was positively delectable. I lost myself in a few of the dishes. Very comfortable, very romantic, very much worth a visit. Magnifique!
This place was absolutely fantastic! Had their set price menu, and the food combinations were amazing - fabulous service too. One of the best meals I have had. It is pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
Chez Rioux & Pettigrew is a charming little restaurant nestled alongside Rue Saint-Paul, just up from Bassin Louise. The restaurant prides itself as a “place where superior ingredients and service are the rule.” Dinner dishes are meant to be shared, and the friendly waitstaff listens to your selections and consults you on their coursing. We selected the ‘halibut gravlax’ (yes, this name makes no sense: ‘lax’ means salmon among Scandinavian languages), black pudding, cavatelli, and bison sirloin—served in essentially that order (with the last two dishes served simultaneously). The ingredients were fresh, but somehow preparation was slightly lacking. As advertised, the cured halibut came marinated in beetroot juice and served atop a vinaigrette compote, garnished with shallot, tiny pickled beets, and thinly chopped wasabi crispy peas. The fish itself was clean, and the beet cure delicate, but the chopped peas felt out clumsy and out of place. The black pudding was nice, cavatelli exceptional. The Bison sirloin was cooked to nice medium rare, but served cold and a bit gamey in flavor profile. Overall we enjoyed the meal and it’s a worthy destination. Staff were courteous and helpful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here! I had the lobster, and my husband had the ribs-- both were delicious. The menu highlights fresh, local products and, I believe, changes seasonally.
The meal was very enjoyable, however service spotty and some certain je ne sai quoi was missing. For example, add a spoon, seafood fork, and discard bowl when serving paella. After waiting an hour for our second course, we decided to eat dessert elsewhere. At this price point, one expects certain basics that were not met. Having said that, the food was mostly well prepared well and the atmosphere is very upbeat.
Pretty disappointed with our dinner tonight. We ordered the 5 courses tasting menu with wine pairing and left hungry with stomachache cause we had too much wine with too little food. The first course was 3 pieces of super tiny clams and 2 pieces of fiddleheads. Next was the scallop ceviche which taste ok, then the beef tartare, mushroom on toast and dessert. The portion of each course was very tiny and bread was sold out so we got 3 small slices of bread for free. The bill was $225 before tips for 2 person (we shared 1 wine pairing). The dinner also took 3 hours! Updated a day later: 2 out of 4 of us have diaherra after the dinner and the other 2 have stomache cause we had more wine than food. (We were already sharing 1 wine pairing for each couples)
We were there with a party of 4, for brunch/"dîner" during Québec Exquis week. Pretty good atmosphere, very casual and service was perfect. Creative cuisine expertly executed, nice variety of textures - just a bit too sweet for my palate (but I always avoid sugars except for fresh fruit). I did mention to our server I do not like added sugars and they did divulge that there was some maple syrup in the fish dish I chose, but I really wanted the fish! Others in our party had never been there (though they are quite knowledgeable about the Québec cuisine scene) and had no idea the chef here was from the old Panache. Is he trying to keep this place a secret?
Incredible food and service. A must try if you’re in the area. The tasting menu & wine pairing is excellent.
Very chill and romantic vibe. I tried the 4-course menu for some surprises from the chef. The main and desserts were excellent, but the starters were below expectation. Overall a nice restaurant that's worth visiting again.
We had dinner for two and it was excellent. For appetizers we had the steak tartare and the corn. Mains were the grilled whole fish and the vegetable/fruit/cheese entree. Everything was well-prepared and flavorful. The vegetables and fruit were perfectly ripe. Wine recommendations were great. Overall, highly recommended.
I'm gonna have to go against the grain and against the hype on this one. On this trip through Montreal and Quebec city I went to a different high end restaurant every night. This restaurant just didn't seem to fit in that upper echelon. The restaurant was good but it didn't live up to expectations. The service was alright, I had issues getting seated even though I had a reservation. The feel of the restaurant was cool. Old feeling like a tavern. The food was pretty good but there wasn't a dish that I was blown away by. Overall I can say it's ok. It was one of the only higher end restaurants open on a Monday.
They are extremely slow and it took them 20 minutes just to get my appetizer. It took so long for my main course that I left. DO NOT GO HERE!!!
Amazing food and service. They have an English menu and have service in English
They threw us out for not ordering the fixed menu. Very, very bad impression of this pompas place
Excellent service, great food using local seasonal ingredients. Went with the tasting menu which is basically smaller portions of the main but it gives you a survey of their offerings. Their dishes give you that sense of the chefs expressions, a walk through the forest or a dip in the ocean.
Excellent service, fantastic food, beautiful interior aswell. Very inviting!
Amazing ! Best food in Quebec and part of the world.
Unique menu and friendly staff on Rue Saint Paul near Bassin Louise. Appetizer of Halibut Croquettes with Sangria to start our late lunch ????
Great quaint French restaurant. Good atmosphere. Great food. Friendly staff!
The restaurant was thoughtfully decorated with a nice ambience. Food was great, I had the bbq ribs & my wife had the lobster.
Amazing food! Get the $70 surprise 4-course menu and experience the delicious flavour on each course! Highly recommended!
It was good. I was not blown away, but I enjoyed the meal, the atmosphere, and the service. While the menu had some interesting items, I didnt find much on there that made me really excited. I had the seviche appetizer, which was good. As a main course, I ordered the pearled barley, which was very good. It's worth visiting, but I didn't feel it was worth all the hype.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Had the holiday meal with the wine pairing. One of our group had the beer pairing and the beers were so similar to the wine it was quite amazing. Will definitely be back here next time.
Great food and great atmosphere. We come here for breakfast everytime we're in Quebec city.
Cute little place with great food! Everything looked pretty and tasted even better! Only thing we didn’t care for were the desserts. Not sure if it was because the food was so good we had high expectations for the dessert too? Reservations required as it was packed.
It was incledible, every plate that I tasted was great, and the desert, nham nham . By the way the service is great, the attendants explained the plates, made real good suggestions. Definitely will come back again.
My partner and I had the tasting menu with wine pairings, and we were extremely pleased with everything from start to finish. The food was fantastic, the staff were phenomenal, and the atmosphere was perfect. Our waitress (who’s name I have sadly forgotten), in particular, was amazing and skillfully walked us through each dish and wine pairing. We will be returning again and have already recommended Rioux & Pettigrew to friends and family.
Very good brunch place to go! Their coffees (cappuccino and latte are the best). Beautiful food presentation. Such a cozy place I love the rustic decor!
Vintage style, love it
Delicious food and great service. Busy place, but the staff did an amazing job of providing personalized service.
Good food. Very friendly attentive service. We had the Chic Choc and Le Cru. Definitely tasty but they have plenty of excellent competition around town.
I was very excited for our dinner at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew and am sorry to say it was quite disappointing. We went on Saturday, the day after Valentine's day, and did not realise that the special Valentine's day chef's menu was actually mandatory and we weren't able to order off the regular menu. Perhaps I should have looked more closely when I made the reservation, but it wasn't clear to me at all that this was going to be the case and I think the special menu was really underwhelming. The dishes were just ok, but pretty bland across the board and minimal choice: fussy servings with lovely presentation but not much in the way of flavour. It wasn't terrible by any means, but certainly a let down given the fantastic reviews. I'd give benefit of the doubt and say that perhaps the regular menu is much better and they were just phoning it in for Valentine's day weekend with a menu driven by convenience more than taste. The space and the service were really lovely though.
I’ve been here couple of times with my better half and everytime is an experience out of this world. The service is so personalized, the food is beyond amazing and the ambiance is exactly what we love. A little pricy, but you get a taste of Quebec’s trend at its best!
This is the kind of restaurant that people are making fun of on Instagram. It’s basically overpriced food art, bite size servings. The server said we should expect to order at least 3 things from the menu per person. I’ve never spent so much money at a restaurant and I was basically starving when I left. I have been to many high quality restaurants in montreal that have a tasting menu but the servings were ridiculously small and overpriced and did not taste good. I’m surprised it has high reviews I bet most of the reviews are paid. Avoid at all cost
Amazing food and atmosphere. Decent price for what you are receiving. Wait staff was friendly and very attentive.
Couldn't have been more impressed by the delicious food and amazing service. FYI: that the menu is similar to a tasting menu, with 4 plates recommended for two diners - every plate was terrific.
Just amazing. loved their food and ambience. highly recommended for travelers or locals in the area
A charming, eclectic decor with friendly and knowledgeable service. We enjoyed the Menu Pettigrew which was 4 courses selected by the chef along with the "Accord" which were 4 wines selected to pair with each course.
Went there with my girlfriend for our 5 year anniversary last night and was absolutely blown away! We were seated in the back room which is usually a negative, but you get an amazing view of the kitchen and can watch all the different food get prepared (arguably a better view than the front). The food was amazing and definitely worth the cost and they take the time to explain the ingredients behind each course they are serving you. There is also a fantastic selection of all alcohols (beer, wine, spirits, etc.) that is occasionally missing from a higher end restaurant. We were one of the last ones to leave so we got to see them celebrate one of the cooks last days by covering his face in whipped cream!! Absolutely one of the most memorable dinners we have ever had. Thank you so much!
Fantastically great restaurant. Upscale food, service and wine.
Thoroughly enjoyed the meal here. We did not have reservations and walked just outside the old city to see what we might stumble upon. The place is much less touristy than the old city restaurants and much more French. The staff is very friendly and accommodating- great ambiance and service. I had the chef's choice menu which was good- however it is a bit pricey for the amount of food you get, so I would just order off the menu. The menu options were good, which my husband had. We ate all over the Quebec region during our road trip and this was one of the top three dining experiences. Intricate, flavorful dishes. You can dress fancy or a bit more casual here as it has a rustic touch to it.
Had the Charcuterie for two, braised beef shoulder, and the black pudding. Everything was so delicious. The bartending was spot on. All the personnel made sure our meal was good, the bartender explained each drink to us at our table. A fantastic meal!
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Every dish was amazing, our Server Sam was great and attentive describing all our plates in detail. 10/10 look nowhere else.
What an amazing experience. Loved the food and service. Their food was so delectable. There was never a moment when our water ran low as the servers were so attentive and filled our glasses up so quickly. The ambience was so great too. Thank you for having us on our holiday. Great job you guys.
We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. We opted for the 5 course with wine pairing and it was fabulous. Every course was perfectly prepared. My only comment was the lighting was a little bright so perhaps consider a dimmer or slightly less powerful light bulbs. Overall, fantastic and would definitely go back.
Delicious food, excellent presentation. Try the assorted sea food platter
Excellent. Unique. Friendly. Casual. Beautiful atmosphere. Great choice for vegan and vegetarian folks, but also serves meat and fish dishes. Stop reading reviews, go definately check it out:)
We were more than happy with our experience. Excellent cocktails, a cool selection of wines by the glass very reasonably priced. And the food...Everything was above our expectations. The dishes are sized between a tapas and a main course, so they recommend 3 to 3 per person. We had 5 for the two of us.
Burger was great, soup was better. Service was quick, courteous and attentive without being overbearing. Not cheap, but not overpriced.
Gastronomical delight, limited menu, but each dish is a work of art.......a must for anyone who enjoys a well crafted meal
Great experience with this restaurant. The food was very well portioned and delicious ! I ordered the charcuterie platter with foie gras as a starter while entree was the mushroom pasta. Both were great! The service was friendly and patient.
One of the best restaurants we have been to in Quebec City! The scallops were cooked perfectly and my wife had the squash risotto was amazing! Worth the walk from theupper city! Tres bien!
My gf and I both had a terrific experience at this restaurant. We each took the four course meal (3 plates, 1 dessert) as well as an additional meal. The creativity and taste of the plates were unique and the service was great (one drink took too long to arrive and so we weren't charged for it). Would definitely recommend but important to reserve in advance.
If I could give zero stars, I would. If you want to go to the restaurant for good food, which not only looks good but also tastes good, please do not go here. Their burratta salad was a big fail and so were the main courses. Plus it leaves a big hole in your pocket. I am not sure if the Restaurant realizes that the food should taste good even without wine or alcohol pairings. Highly not recommended.
Aug 30, 2021: My wife, daughter and I arrived for our 8:30pm reservation and seated along with two other groups who reserved at the same time. Our waiter was friendly, personable, and passionate about the food being served. To say the food here was delicious is an understatement. We ordered 9 of 12 dishes from their seasonal menu and everything was excellent!! The chef and his team know their flavours and how to coax the best from all the local ingredients they use in every dish. Each course was well-thought out-prepared and layered with complex flavours. It’s rare that you find a place where every dish is both unique and tasty. The two other tables seated at the same time, were also in agreement. A foodie from Toronto said…” the food in Toronto is not as good as this!” I said, …” unfortunately I will have to agree with you… the food in Vancouver is not as good as this (generally speaking). My wife and daughter who are not octopus nor beef tartar eaters, they loved those dishes- a surprise for me. I said I would come back tomorrow to order several dishes all over again, if only they were open for lunch! As I write this, I would easily reorder the: scallops n smoked clams tartar, octopus, amazing homemade pasta with perfect poached egg and carmalized goat cheese, and their smoky layered black pudding, although every dish we had was good. The tasting dishes are still very substantial and certainly worth more than what one is paying here compared to other fine dining places & I think they need to charge more for the time, energy, and detail that goes into every dish! One needs to make a reservation , the waiter said they turned away so many requests that day because they are a small restaurant. We loved the rustic laid back decor and the non-nouvelle -pretenciousness of other places without true substance nor the heart. of Chez Rioux & Pettigrew. I give CRP a big satisfying recommend, we will return again, from Vancouver
I enjoyed my beef rib but my friend's fish of the moment special was just okay at best. Cute little place, but for the prices here you can do better.
The food here is amazing. We came here for dinner and every dish we tried was so delicious and unique. The portions are small and are for sharing, but it was so, so delicious. The ambiance is really cozy and romantic.
Excellent restaurant and well priced. Service was amazing. We had lunch there and ate salmon tartrate which was in my top 3 of the best tartare I ever had. The soup was simply amazing. Everything had a nice texture to it. I will come back guaranteed.
Excellent restaurant, rated among the best new places in the last few years. There are so many excellent restaurants in Quebec City (it's a very touristic city, after all), so any Top 10 is biased by the author of the list, but the chef being the winner of the "Les Chefs!" TV show (a gourmet cuisine contest judged by professional Chefs of high profile international reputation) , a few years ago, is an insurance policy that this is no fake gourmet cuisine stuff. It really is gourmet, high level cuisine. Their team in the kitchen is really top and they pay attention to details.
Food is overpriced and service is terrible. We ordered the buffalo mozzarella salad and they tried to pass off a smaller portion version with no cheese. Super sketchy, pass on this place
Good environment good food excellent service. Pricy menus though.
My wife and I went to this restaurant last night for her birthday dinner. We only give a 3 star rating because the service was quite good and the decor was nice enough. We started with the beef tartar. Visually the presentation is nice and the ingredients were fresh, but the combination of tastes was not at all enjoyable (Overpowering nuts, a strange tingling feeling in our mouths..). Then we had the halibut (boring), and once again the mix of ingredients was quite unenjoyable (overpowering celerey/lentils/odd greenery). We are in fact foodies and have had wonderful varieties of different dishes from all over the world. The chefs choice of ingredient mixtures just simply left us very dissatisfied. We selected the restaurant based on reviews, and we cannot understand all the 5 stars.. won't be back.
I chose the chef’s selection of 5 courses - a small entree, 3 salty dishes, sweet dessert - with the 4 wine pairings. Incredible, outstanding, the unusual and creative combination of ingredients perfectly divine. Works of art for the palate and the eye. I would give 10 stars. I’m only sad that the photo of the entree didn’t come out. Exceptional service seated at the bar, too.
Fantastic overall expetience, though quite expensive it is worth it. The best meal we have eaten this.
Great soup and dessert. Beef with potato chips main course was unusual but tasty.
What a lovely gem in Old Quebec City! ‘‘Twas a good decision to drop in for brunch. It’s located in a quiet neighbourhood, the place offers a home like lounge vibe, staff were super friendly and very attentive about guests’ needs. People dining there were talking quietly as well, which I didn’t encounter often. Ordered Notre Légendaire. The food was unbeatable. You have to try their latte in that gorgeous artistic mug! Best I’ve ever had. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection, baguette toasts were rich in flavour, oh their home fries were special to me as well. Their sausage had balanced flavours with a sweet emphasis. Everything on the plate blew me away. A must visit in my future trips to Quebec.
Simply amazing, tried the black pudding and I’m glad that I did. The Christmas pine ice cream was super interesting!
Incredible food, incredible wines / beer, incredible service, incredible place. Skip the restaurant's on the main drag and have a dinner here you will be amazed.
We came in for a late dinner with no reservations. They were able to accommodate our party of 2 within 15 minutes. Great atmosphere and attentive staff. Very friendly service with a great knowledge of their products. The food was splendid as well, and came in a good amount of time for how busy they were this particular night. The fresh fish of the day was a highlight. My only note, however, is that the restaurant does not have air conditioning. It gets quite hot and it is a little harder to enjoy a nice dinner, especially when the table water is served lukewarm.
Amazing experience for a little family of 4 with two kids.
Exceptional food and service!! The staff are amazing, passionate and work as a team to deliver a culinary experience like no other!
Fantastic dinner. Appetizers, entree and dessert all delicious. Waitress was very attentive and hostess made extra efforts to seat us at a window seat. The oysters were the best I have had. Chef was more than accommodating with dairy allergy.
Quick trip to Québec city to visit a friend and my aunt. Looked for an excellent bistro in old Quebec for evening dining. This is the right place. I had Terrine of duck foie gras de canard with porto & brandy. My dining partner ( my 80+ years young aunt) had the house onion soup. Both fabulous! Table next to us had the same and the also seemed to love it. Main course was a plate of magret duck for my aunt and striped bar for myself. Both were very good. We were not really going for deserts but the waitress convinced us otherwise. We were not sorry at all. Delicious! Service was excellent! Special BRAVO to Julie (I think that was her name - anyway the lady with a few tattoos on her arms) to take time and repeat many times, with a great smile, the menu to my aunt who is hard of hearing. I will return.
Atmosphere was good, food was tasty... but overpriced. We ordered the seared scallopS and it came with ONE scallop. Very disappointed with that dish. On the other hand, the beef tartare was really good, one of the best one I've had. Wine selection is limited and very expensive as well!
Absolutely excellent meal and delightful service. Every one of the 6 dishes we had were delicious. Nothing to fault. Standouts were Boudin, cavatelli, beef tartare, octopus with shrimp and the pavlova deconstructe. One of the best most consistently excellent meal we ha d had in a long time. Very highly recommended.
A real gem in the city. Absolutely fantastic tasting menu. Portion sizes were excellent and more than enough to leave us both stuffed before the dessert course even arrived. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. A wonderful experience.
At the end of vieux-port Quebec city Tour we visited Chez Rioux & Pettigrew in June 12 of 2019 and June 29; we had a real gastronomic experiences savoring Quebec local food; the dishes in the menu are prepared with local products and some you have never tasted before such as the fiddleheads or "helecho cabeza de violin". We enjoy the restaurant familiar environment, the friendly staff and outstanding service. Thaks to all the staff that provide us those unforgettable moments. They have the best falafel balls! My only complaint is that service is very slow and they are extremely understaffed. The entire lunch took almost two hours due to the constant waiting - even for the bill.
Friendly, great foods with presentations!
We were staying in the Chateau Frontenac, so this place was a bit out of the way, but made us go into a part of town that we might not have gotten to. It is located on the end of a street that is home to lots of antique shops and art galleries. The atmosphere has a cool vibe with these old, poster-size photographs on the walls. You feel like you could hang here all day... The food was excellent as was the coffee. We both had the eggs and mushroom plat. Delish.
What a great night here. Cozy and romantic atmosphere. Food is very special, we had the 4 course tasting menu, each dish was better than the next. Even desert was delicious. Truly outstanding evening.
Great food, great staff. They offered a 5 course meal & wine pairing - outstanding!
Very attentive staff and amazing food. Ordered the braised beef cheeks with side of black pudding and the vegetarian shepherd's pie and butternut squash soup.
We eat at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew on recommendation from our tour guide in Quebec City. They did not disappoint. We chose to select 4 dishes off the menu vs the chef’s choice only because I’m not eating red meat. My husband got the black pudding and bison I got the pasta and halibut. We both agreed our meals were the best of our 5 days in the city. The service was great, explained the menu, checked in just the right amount. The atmosphere is eclectic and cozy but chic. I highly recommend the experience!
Low-dim lighting, friendly, professional and informing staff, great food!!! They always have a surprise option for each course on their menu....choose that!! Also, their menu changes regularly, so there's plenty of new reasons to visit!
An amazing experience! We chose the $70 surprise menu (which turns out are dishes that are not on the menu). Each dish was so unique, used local fresh ingredients and tasted delicious! Can’t wait to go back on our next trip to Quebec City and try items on their menu :)
Much better than hefty fine-dining restaurants in Montreal. We were there for brunch. Food was fresh and flavorful with an intriguing blend of tastes.
We walked in without a reservation on a Monday evening. The food was like nothing we had ever tasted. So fresh, flavorful and unique!!!! Staff was very friendly and informative. We ran into another couple outside when we left and told them they had to eat there. Highly recommend.
One of the best restaurants I've been to in Canada. Ratio quality price is unbeatable! Every dish was special, even the bread was freshly made!
It was inviting and comfortable, I took my shoes off and relaxed with good food and wine! Thank you, you made our last evening here wonderful!
Food is exceptional for a really affordable price. Worth it. Took a while for someone to serve us but once they became available, service was great and efficient.
Amazing dinner! Ordered a succulent tomato salad to start that was heavenly followed by the mushroom pasta that just blew our minds. We also had les polpettes and they were delicious. We came in with low expectations for vegetarian options and were completely blown away by the depth of flavours and the attention to detail. Lovely service as well, we had many questions for their sommelier and he answered them all patiently and recommended a lovely wine and two delectable digestifs. Highly recommended for a romantic night out!
Amazing dinner in a cozy spot! The food was truly outstanding and the service was great as well.
Amazing food and service. I was tempted to just ask for 20 more amuse-bouches. We were seated at a window table and were especially appreciative of the blankets and heater to ward off the cold. It gave an extra cozy feel to the ambiance. We will happily come back the next time we visit Quebec city
The service was commendable and all the staff were extremely warm, friendly, caring and accommodating! The tasting menu was wonderfully delicious and exciting!
Absolutely love it!!! Great place & Great environment. I'd say this is the best in QC. We tried several overpriced restaurant, and this is the one that gives me surprises. Recommended! I would say they are not pricy at all for the quality of food they serve!! And I have to say... Really friendly staff too
I love international cuisine and this is my favourite restaurant in the entire world. Each dish is presented with a flourish as a work of art and its composition is patiently explained to you. The restaurant has a lot of history and character too. The four course chef's choice menu is incredible. Forget Michelin stars, the food and drink here is infinitely superior to that. It's fresh, seasonal, natural, creative, confident and delectable. I imagine food and drink in paradise would be like this. The only downside is, after dining here, whenever you eat or drink anywhere else, you'll inevitably feel a little disappointed. Chez Rioux and Pettigrew is an outstanding restaurant but it remains very friendly, unpretentious and welcoming. Well done to the whole team for demonstrating excellence so effortlessly. Incredible.
We went here for a special occasion. The ambience of the restaurant is cozy, and the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. We didn't go with a tastying menu and took five different dishes from the main menu. The black pudding and carpaccio we liked the best. Other dishes weren't so impressive by taste, though beautifully set. We also liked dessert - Pavlova in a unique interpretation.
Food is good, and menu descriptions are inspired, and staffs handling of the clientele and support while choosing & ordering appetizers & meals is excellent, but the service is amazingly slow, for the majority of the tables, and finished dishes are taking 15-20 minutes to be cleared, and/or to have the next course offered. 2.25 hours all in for an appetizer and a meal.
