REVIEWS OF The Imperial Tandoor IN Peterborough

Paul Anderson

Very expensive and small portions. The food quality was mediocre and bland. I understand 'lunch portion' sizes, but if you do that you must provide 'lunch portion' prices. Floor was still being mopped when customers were coming in, same mop and water used for both restaurant floor and washroom floor. Polite staff and friendly welcome, but they have some things to learn. Owner might take my criticisms as unfounded and try to detract with a comment, but for his sake I hope he accepts these critiques as valuable and learns from them.

Rachyl Elliott

Amazing food! No other Indian restaurant in Peterborough can compare. Upscale dining in an atmosphere that feels like home with family. Owner & staff always make me feel so welcome.

Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants we've been to... And I come from the GTA where we have lots of Indian restaurants to choose from. Imperial Tandoor is easily our favourite restaurant in Peterborough as well. Jim (the owner) is so attentive and you can tell that he definitely values your business and will go out of his way to make your dining experience great.

Stopped in Friday night for the first time, saw the reviews and thought we would try it. Clean and very nice decor for this family-run business. All of the food items were fresh and the dishes had a delightful warmth. Most of these dishes are classic Indian and make a statement in the city of Peterborough. We had the Imperial’s chicken korma (flavourful and delicious) and lamb roganjosh. Also, I thought the portion sizes were great because it was more than enough for everyone. The servers were delightful and service was exceptional. We loved the food. I will for sure come again because my experience here was amazing.

As you can see we demolished our plates before I thought to take any pictures. The food was absolutely delicious, lovely friendly staff and a beautiful restaurant. The patio was gorgeous and so quiet. We had never been before but definitely will be again!

I saw this restaurant was opening back in the summer and was excited because the choices in Peterborough are mediocre. I went on the website and ordered AND paid, which is a great perk! I drove there and was greeted by two very friendly people. The place was packed and had a really entertaining feel to it. The mood of the place was very happy and fun. When we got home we were surprised to see the naan was huge and authentic in flavour. We got 4 different dishes and I'm used to a very salty experience but this food was perfectly seasoned so you can taste the ingredients. It was absolutely incredible, and we will order from here every time. Thank you!

We were there with a large group, and the server was very knowledgable and made suggestions to all of us in terms of what to order and how to have a variety of dishes. Authentic Indian food, fantastic service and clean atmosphere. We will be back for sure!

The atmosphere here is amazing. The food is top notch. Often times I feel like Indian food places make a more bland version of the typical food to save money. You can taste the quality of the ingredients and the care the chef's put in to making this food. The only reason I did not give it a five is because I found it hard with the menu to understand what was and not included in my meal and was asked by a server for multiple add-ons with no explanation of price. Of course this is commonplace in the restaurant business to increase dollars per order but I walked out feeling like I paid too much for what I received which is never a good feeling. This should however not deter you from eating here because you surely will enjoy it. Just ask if it an item is extra because in my opinion things seemed like they weren't.

I've been trying to get in here but lineups out the door. Third time's the charm. I'm not an Indian connoisseur at all but found it underwhelming. Fresh. Hot. Presentation was very nice. But the crunchy rolled bread appetiser needed a dip or something. The butter chicken was barely enough for two despite our servers joke about it being more filling than it looked. The tandoori BBQ was tasty but again needed a sauce. I used the soup and daughters butter chicken... that helped. Might be me. I'll try it again for sure. Maybe with someone who can school me on why there continue to be lines out the door.

Food is great and out of the ordinary, decor upscale, wait staff informed and entertaining and will help you make a selection if you are unfamiliar with the fare. Very clean. Have been many times. Noted the food was slightly different last time we went: Is there a new cook? The goat masala was not as rich as previously enjoyed and had definite vinegary taste not previously present or appreciated. Also noted the dishes we ordered had an unexpectedly escalated level of "heat" not there before which may be too much for many Canadian palates. "Medium" heat has now become what most people would consider to be "Hot". Due to this noticeable change we recommend you speak to your server before ordering if "very hot" is not what you are used to or looking for, even if you've been here before. Not as delicious as previously, but will still return. Just with a bit lower expectations.. A little more expensive than average: but maybe worth it being a higher quality experience even with the slightly disappointing changes: dinner for two with no apps, drinks (just water), or dessert, about $70 before tip..

The food was great. It had really nice atmosphere but the guy behind the bar could take off his ball cap and put on something nicer than a wrinkled golf shirt and sneakers. I mean, with a name like Imperial Tandoor you would think it is a fine dining establishment and the manager would dress to suit. Dressing nice makes the costumers feel they are valued.

Emily Georghiou

Delicious! This was my first time eating Indian style food, and it was so good! I ordered Chaat Ki Torri, Butter Chicken, and Samosas... Will go again.

Arjun Harikumar

Good food. Good service. Awkward spot to wait for a table when the restaurant is full (it's a small restaurant). Everything I've tried has been great. The tandoori lamb chops were good, but the portion was so small and it came with no sides or anything. I know lamb is expensive, but I ended up paying the same as my dinner-mates and got about 1/3 of the food they did. Oh well, I'll order something else instead next time (the lamb roganjosh is awesome!).

Mizaan Ali

Hands down the best Indian food we have ever had ever since we moved to Canada...what taste and quality spot on...reminded us of India! Highly recommend!

Jennifer Perry

I’ve been here many times and never got disappointed. The staff is friendly and welcoming and so is the atmosphere of the restaurant. Food is always delicious. If you are unsure of what to order try their navrattan korma which is delicious and the gravy’s consistency is perfect. We also like their panner tawa masala with their onion kulcha or roti. Oh and their laccha pyaz is amazing side.

Joshua Kubinec

Ok the food here is awesome! Yes, it more expensive than other places but the dishes are huge! Love the Delhi Butter Chicken -- butter chicken but with more spice

“Delicious Food in a Lovely Homely Restaurant... In this day & age it is incredibly hard to maintain a high standard in the restaurant business, but the Imperial Tandoor is exceptional. The food was so delicious, cooked and served to perfection. The environment and food are beyond expectation; the staffs are polite, nice and very attentive while taking the orders. The combination of food, environment and staff make the guests comfortable and respected. The prices are extremely reasonable compared to similar places. We were impressed with the entire experience from the food, atmosphere. It is a wonderful experience and a very enjoyable evening. Even though we live in London ON we will come back next time. Thanks for the great memory....................

My wife suggested to try the Imperial Tandoor Restaurant for her birthday. I am ok with East Indian cuisine, but wouldn't typically go out of my way to eat it, other than maybe samosa's. I was at first surprised to read all the great reviews of the staff, the ambiance and the great food, but all the positive reviews were spot on. Everything we tasted was exceptional and perfectly seasoned, prepared and served. It is excellent and I would even say our new favourite restaurant in Peterborough. That being said who isn't even the biggest fan of east Indian food, says it all. My favourite dish after the complimentary starter bread (can't think of what it is called), was the Butter Chicken. My daughters loved the Lamb Rogenjosh and the MALAI METHI MURGH. My wife ordered the Tandoor sampler and it was all delicious as well. Even the rice and the garlic bread were amazing. Excellent experience and is now on our dining out circuit!

The Imperial Tandoor has been our favourite place to take guests from out of town. Recently,, due to the restaurant being closed, we had food delivered to the house. Since we had family members visiting from Toronto we ordered seven different dishes and several starters as well. Everything was delicious and the servings were generous. Our young guests, who often eat Indian food in Toronto, all agreed that our Imperial Tandoor meal was the best they had ever had!

Rick Dolishny

Just picked up here..always thought they were the best in town and now I know they have the best Indian food in Peterborough! Fast service too. Plus they are giving a 10% discount during these tough times

Syed Ahmed

Never expected to have Indian food in a small town with very few of that ethnicity. One of the nicest place serving Indian cuisine. Food was amazing. Ambiance was great too.Lot of good spices. More than what expected. Happy to be here. Enjoyed a lot

Maria Jimenez

My favorite!! Imperial Tandoor honestly the best in Peterborough. My favorite cuisine and Restaurant in the city A MUST when visiting. The Naan just out of the Owen , hot,soft... and on point, it can just be eaten by itself. My order …

Leah Lewis

Daal Makhani wasn't good at all. It seems like they are using some other daal insted of orignal one which is supposed to be used. Naan were good but kindly work on Daal Makhani receipe.

Great service, nice decor and very good food, I enjoyed the spicy level of everything I ordered. However, if you want to park close to the restaurant, parking is limited on busy nights. Additional parking is available as the restaurant is located in a plaza.

Best real Indian Cuisine in town. Feels like higher end and tastes like it too.

Varun Bhanot

Amazing food, friendly staff, and so many vegan options ????

Tracey Manns

Finally a real good authentic Indian food experience in Peterborough. They create all their curries from scratch with spices, super fragrant . Lamb vindaloo was excellent. Onion bahji was very good also. The chicken korma is a little weak though, kind of just a cream sauce . Staff were very friendly . We will be returning next time through.

Desiree Smith

The server knows the menu and could explain everything on it in a pleasant maner like she enjoyed educating me. Had the sampler entree and butter chicken. My wife had the tandoori chicken. Simply put the flavors were phenomenal, service impeccable, pricing was a little steep. That being said, I don't mind paying for good food and service. We will definitely be returning.

Harriet Carlson

Amazing food! I have tried many Indian places, but this is one to remember. Such flavorful food and amazing service! Highly recommend.

Afsana Tabibi

Excellent service from the owner and amazing food! Had a great experience, would visit again when I’m in the area:)

Francesca Morana

A really nice Indian restaurant. Top marks for food, atmosphere, wine selection, service and cleanliness. Was completely full when we went for supper so it's a good idea to make a reservation. I had the lamb vindaloo with medium heat, best I have had in years. This place is highly recommended.

UpAndAway Kay

Came here for my birthday dinner and Oh my God, what a place! Great atmosphere for a date night. The food was fantastic. I would highly recommend for anyone looking to try authentic Indian food. Great service, too

Braulio Salgado Cienfuegos

Everything we had was excellent, including our mixed drinks. I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes Indian food! …

Lindsay Allan

So this place. Went here on my birthday and was floored by the setting, the service and the food. It's Indian cuisine, like Rojanjosh and butter chicken, and it's served a la carte. Meaning each dish will probably serve 2-3 people and everybody can try different things. The environment of the restaurant makes you feel like you're under dressed if you're not in a suit or dress like you're meetings your boss's boss, but the friendly and courteous staff bring it down to a friendly/informal outing. Great food, great people.

Rahul Kevadia

Ambience of this place is sooooooo good???? with playing Indian Instrumental music????in background. …

Salim Sopari

Wow the food was great. Tranquil ambiance. Decent sized portions. I have eaten at many indian restaurants but this really impressed me. I ordered chicken pakoras and imperial chicken korma. Nicky was our host, excellent and friendly …

James Eastwood

I went here with my friends tonight for the first time in over a year, and I have to say it's still just as good as when they first opened, if not better! Very classy, beautiful atmosphere and the food is fresh, delicious and packed with Indian flavour whether you like it mild or spicy! The Delhi Butter Chicken might be my new favourite dish, I hope The Imperial Tandoor is around for a long time!

Jeff McNab

Ordered lamb madras, butter chicken, and naan. The madras was decent. Good enough that I would order it a second time. The butter chicken though.... It tasted like chef boyardee ravioli sauce with some spices tossed in. It was like no butter chicken I've ever had (and not in a good way). Overall I'd say the meal was overpriced. The butter chicken for example looked like a tomato soup with seven small cubes of chicken in it and it cost $17. Oh and don't make the same mistake I did. I assumed it came with rice. It does not.

Jordan Aschaber

One of the best places with quality Indian food in the town, with best customer service.

The Mindfulness Project

Best authentic East Indian (Punjabi) restaurant in Peterborough. Great friendly services, great choices, highly recommended.

daniel leblanc

This is a nice Indian restaurant. I love the window where you can look back into the kitchen and the place is nicely decorated. The food was very good. I order Tandoori Chicken and it was super. My son had a grill plater and he thought it was good. Best Mango Lassi I have ever tasted. The nan bread was slightly different but extremely good. The place is a bit pricey but I would definitely go back.

Tiffany Wolters

Had an excellent experience here. Great food and great but very slightly over spread servers. I highly recommend going. The menu is a little difficult to traverse so look up before what you want or ask a server what is good. It only losses points on atmosphere for me, it just wasn't what I excepted. It's okay and it works, it just doesn't look like a professional had much say. But I could be wrong. And some times there was no music for some reason.

We have been here several times and every meal has been amazing! We drive over 45 min into Peterborough just to come to Imperial Tamdoor. Highly recommended! Please open a location in whitby or Oshawa! Tonight we had : Malai Methi Murphy which was our favorite dish. Ask them to make it a little more spicy. Its awesome! Madras Chicken- a close second place- so good! Fish Pakora- great starter. Haryana Palau Kebabs- also great Don't miss this place????????

Arjun Rajeev Warrior

The staff were welcoming and the food arrived quickly. Indian cuisine is always delicious but my taste experience was lacking. Tandoor dishes were superior to curries, all was average, and the cost was much more expensive than i was anticipating. Unfortunately, i would not go back.

David Peacock

Hands down best Indian in town. I'd go so far as to say that this is the best food I've ever had in my life. The service and ambiance is way out of Peterborough's league. I've been in restaurants where I've paid twice as much and received half the treatment Tandoor's servers provide. They're good. In my mind this restaurant is a milestone representing the new benchmark for service and simply incredible food at still-reasonable prices. It has ruined my wife and I for any other Indian food.

Daniel Horst

The atmosphere is fantastic. The food is extraordinary. If you are in Peterborough this restaurant is a must.

carlos ferreira

Amazing food and service! I am always hesitant to try new places as we don't go out for dinner often, but we were totally impressed! Our server was awesome, and it is most definitely the best Indian food in Peterborough that I have tried. My only complaint is the obnoxious people beside us who complained about everything. However, the staff (multiple people not just their waiter) did everything they could to make it better. I don't ever write reviews, but I felt like I should for this place. It was the best dining experience I have had in a while. Try the little goat cheese spinach things as an app. Soooo good!

Alex Makarow

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, great service and delicious food

Megz

The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and able to explain to novice diners. A member of our party was allergic to wheat and dairy however she could still have an enjoyable dining experience with lots of options. Very delicious, will be returning and recommending to friends.

If you haven’t tried authentic Indian cuisine yet…. My motto is…”You gotta try something at least once!” The imperial Tandoor, is by far the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever had! Everything at the restaurant is sold As an individual dish, including there rice and naan. However, everything in their menu, is worth every penny you spend! Everything is top notch and the seasoning is perfectly balanced! Love this place! I’ll always spoil myself And the kids at least once every couple of months here ????

Joseph Joncas

We had a wonderful date here. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside and all of the staff was so wonderful. Our waiter was very relaxed and happy to make recommendations. It was very obvious that he took pride in his job and the restaurant. The food was so delicious and the Tandoor came from the kitchen still sizzling. We will definitely be returning.

Smit Amin

Scrumptious food, good ambience ,hygiene preparation ,humble staff and above all a perfect destination for relishing the original indian food. Must to have it in your food diary.

S TZ

This is my favourite place for Indian food in town! We have been doing take away this fall and I can usually get at least two meals out of a single curry. Plus they taste beautiful! I love the complexity of the flavours. I'm a coward when it comes to spicy food, but they have some really excellent milder options that I adore.

Jennifer Pagniello - Ray Lawson PS (1535)

Excellent food, service and atmosphere, this should be on everyone's menu for a place to eat. The curries were flavorful, just the right amount of heat, and generous portions. We really struck gold with this place.

Danny Granzow

Still waiting for Trip Advisor to add this one so I can review it there. What an amazing experience!! The food is incredibly fresh and every meal that comes out of the kitchen is fragrant with tantalizing smells, filling the entire room with herbaceous steams bursting with savoury scents to make you drool! Watching them slide pieces of chicken off the long sticks is deliciously tantalizing. The breads are baked fresh to order and I HIGHLY recommend the garlic naan. I tried the Delhi Butter Chicken and they made it milder for me. The creep of the heat into my mouth as the flavour builds was a lovely sensation. Everyone seemed happy to be working there and excited about the food. My server was ready with advice, suggestions and offers to adjust food to my liking. Not sure I have ever had such willing, kind and attentive service. Afraid that letting out how amazing this place is will soon have me requiring reservations!! The decor is modern, crisp and fresh with a darker, masculine ambiance. Great shades on the windows to filter the south light and great planters out front. I don't think I can express how quickly you need to experience this wonderful venue!!

Ryan Lowe

We decided to try The Imperial Tandoor recently as we love Indian food. We had lamb roganjosh, spinach paneer, rice and garlic naan bread, all delicious! A nice touch was the plates arriving warm at our table in advance of the food. The paneer cubes were delicious, very fresh and tender. Great service too and welcoming staff. The chai tea which appears on the dessert menu was truly delicious, not overly spicy and very smooth and creamy. We look forward to returning.

Rebecca Birrell

Thank you to the imperial tandoori. You went above and beyond. You have always been and continue to be one of my favourite places to eat. It is so good. I highly recommend it. And the gentleman who answers the phone is always very polite and kind. Thank you again to the whole team there.

Johnny Kawartha

Excellent! Service, food was very high quality. Delicate flavors in the butter chicken, lovely aloo gobi, very tasty.

Mohit Patel

Wow was this an experience, I had taken my fiance and daughter here and the staff were just amazing I was over the moon how nicely they treated us. The owner of the restaurant was there and he had made us feel so welcomed. He made sure we were looked after so no issues happened. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.

The decor was great, service was great, and staff were friendly. The food was okay. It doesn't have a strong enough taste to some of the dishes. It's also a bit pricey compare to other indian restaurants I've visited. Oh and I was extremely gassy and very thirsty after the meal. Had to drink 6 bottle of water within the span of 2hrs

Belen Ong

Delicious food and great service. Some of my favourite Indian food I’ve had. Excellent respect of covid safety protocol on the patio as well. Also pretty reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Great food awesome waitress great service. Definitely will be going back????

Great food! Fast service and very cleanly packed

Rebecca Foster

Perfect. Super nice. Super clean. Tasty AF. Chicken was cooked properly. Sauce was excellent. Not dank, dated or smelly. Customer service is light years ahead of everyone in town. Prices are good. Give it a try.

Ajyani Mohan

a nice place to have some Indian food in town, cool ambiance, good food, great staff just a little slow for services. Mangolada is the best ????????, Thanks Nicky( works there) for Recommendation. All the best

Jim Delong

This place is a must visit with wonderful traditional Indian food made fresh on site. While waiting for your food you will receive a basket of papadams and may I suggest you try their mango Lassi. …

Keil Family

Love, love, love the Malai Methi Murgh....tender boneless chicken morsels, flavored with fenugreek and cream. Order it every time, I am sure the other menu items are amazing as well.

The Imperial Tandoor is by far one of the best culinary experiences you can be offered in and around the Kawartha Lakes. With such loaded and layered flavours in every dish, there is an art to how they make food. The presentation is beautiful, and the portions are thus when ordering based on the expert guidance of their knowledgable servers, there usually is a little left over to enjoy at home! The family run business is warm and welcoming, they provide a classy atmosphere that is intimate yet open. The staff is always phenomenal and with a window allowing you to watch their tandoor ovens at work it's a really neat experience. The cocktail list is perfect, and the wine list is something you do not see around Peterborough. They have vegetarian options, vegan options, and can definitely adhere to specialized diets. They will go above and beyond to ensure every experience is great! I've never been disappointed with my experience here.

Mercedes Johnson

Oh wow! Greeted with wonderful aromas when entering. Had the chicken tikka masala and the rice they suggested. Chicken was big chunky and juicy. Rice was wonderful, who knew it could be so nice and flavourful yet not overly powerful. This dish is not too spicy. Had the samosa too which had more kick to them which was perfect for me. Generous servings had two meals out of it and still had half left. Cant wait to go back!

Komal Arora

Best indian food i ever had. Hands down amazing quality! And very consistent compared to other Indian restaurants in Peterborough. Rice is so flavourful! and every single dish we have tried has been on point (we've ordered here many times ????) ???? perfection!

Nerosh S

Ordered take out. The food was generally OK but on the mild side. Vindaloo was barely hot. Most mains we ordered were $18-$20 each and we were super disappointed at how small the portions were. They were each prepared in 6" diameter plastic tubs. Check your ruler to see just how small a 6" tub is. It's very small. The breads were even worse. We ordered garlic naan -$5 and onion kulcha $6. We got one piece of each. $11 for two pieces of soggy bread. With four other indian restaurants in town, we'll be trying them first before going back here.

It seems a Lot of the good reviews were written at the same time period of 3-4 months ago - I tried this place out because of the exceptional reviews. My main diet is Indian cuisine and I have had a lot of great dishes around the GTA or in Peterborough itself . Imperial Tandoor was very overpriced compared to other local genuine Indian cuisine we have in town. After hoping with my "you get what you pay for attitude" I was super super disappointing with my dish. I ordered the Vegetarian Dhansak asking for it spicy 10\10 ... not only was the spice level a laugh the vegetables tasted\felt like they were cooked in an hour with no real flavor profile to be found anywhere. Even the next day the leftovers which usually accumulate more taste were still bland - Not bland to the point of being tasteless but bland in a sense you can tell there was no real love or mantra made into the food.. Very generic, not spicy and hardly no flavour This review is only being written because with the price I paid - what a rip off!!! 3\10 for the Veg Dhansak. The Saffron rice is the only saving grace here why I will give 2 stars. Nice service upon door arrival\ good decor\ bad experience with the food.

Jim McBride

Awesome decor and food. Best Indian restaurant in town.! For a vegetarian there were plenty of options to choose from. The chef took great consideration into my nut allergy and specially made a dish catering to my needs. They even had gluten free and dairy free options to choose from. Would highly recommend this place to all my friends.! can't wait to go there again.!

Dawn Quinn

Don't come here if you're on a tight budget. Not terribly expensive, but it is ever so good. Our host made great wine suggestions, and the food was incredible! NOT a casual restaurant. Semi-formal dress is almost mandatory. You'll be audibly laughed at if you're under dressed by the other patrons. The staff are always courteous and helpful. Will definitely be returning often!

Jay Desai

Went to The imperial tandoor last night for date night with my fiancé and we had a lovely time! The service was great and the food was excellent. The appetizers were descent size and spicy enough. The ambiance was great too, perfect for date night. The only “negative” thing I have to say is that it seems like their AC was blasting cold air and it was freeeeeezing. Luckily, the wine warmed us up ;)

Meghan Mc

Was a little nervous going in. Pretty fancy looking. But it was amazing service, fantastic food, super clean and pleasant to be in, and great GREAT pricing! We will definitely be coming back. They also had less spicy options which we loved.

Khushboo Patel

I don't usually write reviews but I just finished a yummy brownie that was packed in with our order. Thank you and Happy Diwali!! Tandoor is really the only place we order food from - the spices are medicine and the flavors are so. good.

Trish S

Have been ordering online on their website almost every week when I visit my cousins in town. The food is exceptional. I never thought I would find the most authentic taste in Peterborough. I have eaten in many restaurants in Toronto, but this restaurant amazes me with their quality standards. You pay the premium, only to get premium food. The meat quality is top notch and their portion sizes are pretty good. They also offer 10% off on their online ordering system. Each dish has its own flavour too. Looking forward to a wonderful takeout soon.

Carl Nabein

What great authentic Indian food! You have your choice of mild to very spicey and our waitress was great explaining the nuances. The selection of wines is also really good, you will not be disappointed

Dan Hobbs

I love the Imperial Tandoor! It is very clean with excellent service. The food is perfectly proportioned with incredible flavor. The side sauces are refreshing and add new notes to each dish! Enjoy the ambience as it is quite cozy as well!

Susanne Ralph

I have dined at the Imperial Tandoor previously and the service and food has always been amazing! I recently placed a catering order from them for a dinner party as well and the food was absolutely delicious and the portions were great! I also asked for a modification on an order due to an allergy that one of my guests had and they accommodated our request so well! Amazing service and food!

Lisa Paterson

Mazing Indian food with a decent selection of super tasty vegan options. Highly recommend.

Amazing food. Highly recommend. Delivery ordering was easy on their website and food arrived quickly.

The service was amazing. By far the best Indian Cuisine around. The ambiance was quite nice. I would not hesitate to come back with friends or clients. I hear from friends their take-out is equally fantastic.

This is definitely a new gem ✨in Peterborough!! We called for a last minute reservation for valentines dinner, they were polite and accommodating. When we arrived the inside of the restaurant was decorated well, sets a great mood. The staff greeting at the door were friendly with immediate service. There was a special valentines menu, it did not disappoint. The food was presented well, in a timely manner and with a wonderful waitress. I am looking forward to going again.

willa shiner

Excellent service only surpassed by exceptional authentic Indian cusine.

Ian Millar

We just ate here for the first time. We are not familiar with Indian food. The staff was so helpful in helping us to order. The food is delicious. We will return to eat again when we are back in town. Thank you for a lovely meal

Larry P

My husband and I had dinner here with our four teenagers for my husband’s birthday on a Saturday night and all six of us are vegetarian. The vegetarian menu was very impressive. The restaurant was busy with a great atmosphere and we received excellent service. The food was fantastic! We finished every dish. There were way more vegan and vegetarian options than we could possibly try in one visit! I was so happy to discover the harvest style menu as well! We all got to try a little of each item that was chosen. Our server was very friendly and informative. And the prices were very fair for the quality of food. I am so impressed and we will be back with the family for sure. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

AnnaKcg

The taste is really different from what the actual Chicken seekh is in India . The onion salad was good but seekh just spoiled the taste

Shivam Dube

We eagerly awaited for The Imperial Tandoor to open and it was well worth the wait! They transformed this space into a very calming and elegant escape. The service and reception were lovely, very attentive and informative as this was mine and a couple others first authentic experience with Indian cuisine. thanks

Scott kitchen

Amazing food! Amazing service! The owner and his father really make you feel at home, even when ordering take out during the pandemic!

nancy robinson

The best Indian food around. No need to go to Toronto. They have a real tandoori oven and you can watch master naan makers in action through a glass window. Lance is an awesome host. This place is a class act. Nothing but good things to say about The Imperial Tandoor.

rajneesh saluja

Very nice place and nice patio. Delicious meal. It had been too long since I had had a good Indian meal. Will go back soon!

After introducing himself to us, the owner proclaimed that once we tried the food, we would return. Our first response was, not likely since we live in Keswick. Little did we know ... The restaurant is well appointed, with all the touches that make you feel both welcomed and transported to an entirely different place. The staff, not just the owner, are courteous and welcoming. Often stopping by to make sure that we had everything we needed. We decided to build our table (something that we are very used to doing). This means that you order dishes, to be shared among the table and this allows for you to try many different items from the menu. We decided on an appetizer platter, to get us started. The Mila Zula includes Samosas palak kebab (cut in half to share), pakoras. SOOOO good, we took our time, trying each one and savoring every bite. The meal consisted of Garlic Butter Naan, Butter Chicken, Aloo Gobhi and white rice. Everything tasted wonderful, from the tender pieces of butter chicken to the seasoned cauliflower. I even splurged and had a piece of the Naan. I adhere to a very low carb lifestyle, but this dinner was an exception and I'm glad that I tried everything. It turns out that by the end of the meal my husband and I agreed that we would indeed be back. Now, when can we manage to drive this way again?

Good ambience and food was great. Staff were friendly and would like to go there again.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary last night at this place. It was our first time there, we love to experience new places every year and we were amazed by the wide menu and most of all, the deliciousness in every bite. Dishes are pretty vast! The service was great, the staff members were so friendly and helpful. They have all safety measures in place to protect their customers, we appreciated it! Thank you for making our anniversary dinner something to remember! We’ll be back.

I think this is the only restaurant in Peterborough where the Indian food actually tastes like it!!

Have visited this place with my family shortly after they reopened. The service is excellent, the staff is very friendly. Good things end here though since samosa, tandoori chicken and tandoori lamb we ordered are worse and more expensive as compared to what we used to have in Toronto/GTA.

Absolutely delicious. Bursting with flavour. Delightful waitress.

I took my sister and her fiancé here for their second time ever having Indian food. I don’t think I can say anything bad, really amazing. Service was standout I thought it might have been their opening night they were so attentive, we made the dumb assumption it would be empty on a Tuesday night and it was PACKED so had to wait 35 min but they brought us some samples of mango lassie. Great atmosphere and the food was amazing. Will definitely come back, this time with a reservation!

A wonderful Indian restaurant with a traditional style menu featuring many vegetarian options in addition to a wide selection of Tandoori style grilled meats. The atmosphere is upscale with a large window into the kitchen. The chefs can be seen making fresh breads and meat with showmanship! The prices are slightly expensive, but the quality and general experience are well worth it.

A friend and I are here tonight (June 1, 2019,) and the food was out of this world not only tasty and just the right amount of zing/spice but delicious extraordinaire. We both had fir the first time, Navrattan Korma with a bowl to share of …

This is some of if not the best Indian food we have had (except maybe a small place in Chapel Hill NC). Authentic and delicious and a great variety of of dishes from the differing areas of India. Almost too good for Peterborough!

Came in for dinner tonight and honestly had the best experience. Our server Lance was a gem and the food was amazing, I love being able to see into the kitchen and watching the chefs work their magic! Highly recommend ???? Thanks again!

We ordered take out from this restaurant for the first time since moving close to Peterborough. The staff was very helpful with recommendations for our order and the food was terrific - nice and spicy with good quality ingredients. We have been missing going out for dinner since COVID and it was so nice to have this meal and not have to prepare it ourselves!

The team is outstanding and the food is fresh/ homemade and traditional. I have visited this restaurant several times and every visit the staff are extremely attentive and helpful. Management is always insuring you are taken care of and thanking you for visiting. If you have not tried this place yet, you will not be disappointed.

Restaurant ambiance, service and Decor are excellent. Food wise, not so well. Pretty much all Curries tastes same. I have had food in many Indian restaurants, and their taste is delicious. Specially Tandoor is pricy restaurant. Compared to price, the taste is not there. I would not mind paying the money but there should be a taste difference between two dishes.

Beautiful restaurant inside. The staff are very genuine and friendly. You can tell they put their heart and soul into their food and business. A little pricey compared to other places I've been. Three dishes with two naan and one rice came to $80. Our favourite go to place charges $52 for the same thing. Our main complaint would be that the sauces all seemed very oily. So oily that the oil was separating from the rest of the ingredients. All in all I would go back based on the quality of food and service. However, the cost may keep me away.

We love this place! The restaurant is well decorated, food fresh and flavorful, and staff are polite and professional. The kids love the Naan, which was soft, warm and delicious! We only wish there were more mild dishes! Their so called mild dishes were still too spicy for us and especially for the kids.

10/10 for this fabulous tasty restaurant. Thank you for the delicious food

My thoughts of this place were that it was just mediocre. I had high expectations considering I heard nothing but good reviews. While the service, staff, and environment were pleasant and the food was good, it wasn't amazing. We ordered butter chicken and the chicken was mystery meat, definitely not chicken breast. It also had pieces of cartilage in it, making me grossed out. They also only had 1 server running the whole restaurant. In the future, I would rather go to the other Indian restaurant here in Peterborough and will most likely not return.

Imperial Tandoor brings an authentic palate of northern Indian cuisine to Peterborough. Great ambiance. The menu features a wide selection which includes Tandoori, Curry, and great vegetarian options as well. The servers were knowledgeable and pleasant. It was a delightful experience.

Just when you thought you had to drive to Toronto for authentic Indian food -- along comes Imperial Tandoor! Ever since I was introduced to the wonderful flavours of authentic Indian cuisine several years ago in downtown Toronto, I admit I've been hesitant to try it anywhere else. That's because my very first experience -- years before -- was in a small-town restaurant in central Ontario. Let's just say not everyone who can cook at home should get into the restaurant business. That being said, I've been pleasantly surprised more than once by restaurants I've tried in the Peterborough area. The Imperial Tandoor has a certain look to their website, advertising and even the outside of their building, that all give the impression they know what they're doing. I decided to take the plunge. Wow, I'm so glad I did! I just visited for the second time, and enjoyed it every bit as much as the first. They've done a great job at making a space that's not really all that large feel open and uncrowded. Part of the secret is the clever use of a riser for half of the space, to separate people and break up the room slightly. I would describe the decor as comfortable, but also somewhat classy. The kind of place you can feel comfortable in for a casual meal with friends, or a romantic dinner for two. But the big news here is the food. I was really hoping for something at least approaching the best I've had in Toronto. What I got was actually better. It started with fresh, complimentary Papadum, and just kept coming. I tried several dishes I was familiar with so I could compare, and each time, I found I preferred something about Imperial Tandoor's version. The flavours are complex and deep. And I'm not talking about heat, just the intensity of flavour. It's obvious they use first-rate ingredients, authentic and complicated recipes, and take all the time needed to bring out the best in them. For this type of flavour, you have to be patient, both in the kitchen, and at the table. But it's well worth the wait, believe me. The menu is deceptively extensive, because there are so many options and combinations available. If you're new to Indian cuisine, or concerned about spicy heat, the menu is very helpful, and so is the staff. Indian food, like Mexican, Asian or Buffalo chicken wings, can be prepared as mild or spicy as you prefer. It's going to take a long time to gradually work my way through their menu, but I think I'm up to the challenge. Highly recommended!

They opened for us and another group when they were supposed to be closing; we showed up for very late lunch. This place is amazing! They have a genuine tandoori clay oven, they can adjust the spice level for heat on most dishes, the service was amazing, and the food, oh so good! (Lamb kebabs, goat masala, naan, rice, poppadams sp?) The restaurant itself is nicely laid out, and it isn't one of those places that keeps the a/c at sub zero temperatures either. This place will get many repeat visits.

Great place for Indian meals that too at an affordable price.

Enjoyed a dinner with family tonight and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. On arrival we were greeted in a friendly manor and found the atmosphere to be warm and comfortable. I am new to the cuisine and will definitely return to explore more dishes. The meal was delicious and the presentation was awesome.

Had to of been one of the nicest meals we've had in a restaurant in years. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back. Don't mind the reviews where they felt it was over priced, you get what you pay for and I had another full meal the next day from what I couldn't eat there. This is the highest endorsed restaurant in Peterborough I have ever done. Enjoy.

Absolutely Fantastic Experience - We decided to go there on a Monday evening and the place was busy for a Monday evening. We were seated promptly and they have a nice selection of menu. The food we ordered was all very flavorful and well-presented. Best Indian food in town for sure. We asked one of the curries to be spicy and the chef customized the Paneer Tawa Masala to be spicy and it was just right. We even got takeout food that evening and everything tasted amazing the next day. The restaurant is very clean and you can see that they maintain good hygiene. Thank you for a good experience.

Definitely good and delicious Indian food in town. Owner Jim was friendly and hard working. The order was there as per requested. Caution: I think you get 10% off only IF you order from the web site! Also, their garlic naan bread is almost $5 per piece. We order 5 and it was $24.75. That is a lot of money for bread!

Server seated us promptly. Our food arrived hot and delicious. And the food and drinks were soo good. Love this place for Indian food.
