Great moules frites and lots of beer on the menu.. my happy place
Unparalleled selection of beers and dining options for any occasion. Always love my visits here.
I love this place. The service for me has always been excellent and everyone knows their beer. The taps are wonderful and changing and there is always a good selection of bottled beers. All the servers I know are excellent and take pride in their work.
Dinner
Best schnitzel in Peterborough and top notch selection of beers from around Europe. Highly recommended
Lovely take-out dinner last night. Fresh, hot and on-time for easy pickup. Fish & Chips, Steak Sandwich and a Caesar Salad to split. Travelled well home in compostable containers. Keep up the good work team!!
A destination spot for fine Belgian ale, fantastic food in an amazing setting that brings it all together. It's well worth the drive to Peterborough.
Quaint Cafe Very busy place. We arranged a month before our visit and owner selected best table for us, We were early so got to sit near the bar and enjoyed some very good Scotches at reasonable prices. When our table was ready, it was in most secluded place looking out the window. Food was terrific. Nothing plain about anything on the menu. I understand now why it was busy. Will visit it again when I am in Peterborough.
The person who served, was kind enough to explain and make me understand which drink would be better for me! Very cozy place to have a hot drink in this winter. Definitely going there back again :)
I really enjoy St. Veronus - It's a gorgeous restaurant with an excellent drink selection. I've had nothing but good experiences with the wait staff and food. That being said, even when I've gone and the restaurant has been empty, the wait for food and drinks is pretty hefty. The last few times I've been in, the wait has been at least 45 minutes. I work in the food industry too, so I understand they've got a lot going on, but it's best to keep in mind that you'll be there for a while.
Great selection of European brews (Belgium and German mainly). Staff and management are friendly but the wait staff is slow and maybe somewhat forgetful. I don't mind waiting for food and that did arrive fresh and tasty. Waiting for water was an issue. A combination of the heat and unusually long wait times for water refills greatly diminished my flight tasting experience. Bottom line: great place if you aren't in a hurry and great bar inside.
Service
Fantastic! European charm, excellent food, excellent service. Our server Nicole was delightful. And that not good review about the schnitzel? WRONG!! It was fabulous!! Dessert s are awesome too. Thanks so much for a great meal!
I visited St. Veronus for the first time a couple weeks ago and had a fantastic experience. My group of five showed up at 9:45pm and they welcomed us in and grabbed our orders before the kitchen closed. Between us we had the turkey brie burger, the schnitzel and the beef sandwich and all were amazing. Also, they make their own in-house ketchup that is heavenly! They really ought to bottle and sell it, it was incredible. Also, my father ordered a beer and they ran out so they gave him a glass of about four or five ounces for free, which I thought was great service. They didn't rush us at all even though we came so close to closing. Great time and can't wait to go back and try more food! Edit: I went to St Veronus regularly for months before moving away. Get a flight to sample some of their many tasty beers and pair with a huge platter of calamari served with an incredible lemon aioli for dipping! Never disappointed.
Meal type
Our Server, (didn't get his name, sorry) was fantastic, friendly and funny! The food was Ahmazing. I brought leftovers(Ahi tuna salad) home for my husband and he said it was the BEST salad he's ever eaten and could eat it every day. Thank You!
Incredible selection of imported German and Belgian beers. Incredible dishes. Incredible sun-splashed courtyard beer-garden adorned with palm plants. A slice of old Europe. Service was solid though we felt she assumed we were going to dash off without paying :) Our two hours here the highlight of our recent vacation. Don't be cool. Be adventurous.
Went around 4pm with a group of 3. Employee told us they couldn’t accommodate us because they had reservations coming in 30 minutes. The restaurant was completely empty. Went to the Brick House. After our meal we were walking by St Veronus 1 hour after we tried to get a seat and the pace was still practically empty. Absolutely atrocious service. The food may be great but the complete lack of hospitality leaves something to be desired regarding guest experience.
I have literally been to hundreds of Restaurants in my life and this was without a doubt the worse service I have ever had in a Restaurant. Our reservation was for 5:30 and we received our Dinners 7:10.... Believe it or not. 1 hour and 40 minutes... Brutal!!!! The only reason I didn't walk out was because I didn't want to embarrass the rest of my party and I was actually interested to see how long they would take to serve us our Dinners. The waitress was mostly uninterested until the end when she was doing damage control to salvage her tip. She offered to not charge us for our drinks but there was only one in our party was drinking alcohol. I was so dissatisfied with the service that I don't even remember what the food tasted like. I realize that this Restaurant usually gets good reviews but it fell extremely short with me. I'm also very surprised that the Owner or Manager didn't come over and apologize for the 1 hour and 40 minute delay... I can't recommend this Restaurant and won't be back.
I had heard a lot about st Veronus. We went for my daughter's birthday and we were not disappointed. We had muscles (yum) and I had duck salad which was amazing. They gifted us a brownie for the birthday girl. Will definitely go again.
Came here for a birthday dinner; Fries for appetizer Schnitzel & grilled haddock with pesto on top flight of beers to drink (kriek and dilerium red absolutely fantastic) Best way to describe the place is an upscale pub but not snobbish. Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their menu and drinks. Will definitely be returning again.
I had lunch with my bro here yesterday. Everything was amazing. Service was excellent, food was delicious, surroundings were cool, and the beer was exceptional. I love Belgian beer, and that’s what drew me to this place but I’d recommend it anyone.
Always an excellent choice. Lovely atmosphere. Plenty of lovely appetizer options for sharing. It's a beer temple for a reason - be sure to come thirsty!
Excellent find. Authentic food, beer, and atmosphere. Customer service was on point too. Tons of Belgian beer on draft and food hit the spot!
Excellent food. Have been several times and have never been disappointed. Great beer selection, tasty food, knowledgable staff. What more could you want? I know, how about a wine bar next door. I hear that's what's coming soon. great food, a great improvement from the previous owner
We just moved to the area and discovered this AWESOME place. Great food & Staff. Thanks for welcoming us to Peterborough also. Will definitely come back.
Delicious, amazing service, consistent. Always a go to for a well-priced and delicious meal. Can't wait to come have dinner in person again.
Dine in
Went in on a Wednesday evening and the place was almost empty. The host greeted us and asked if we had a reservation. We did not. He seemed really unhappy about this. After that he basically said he’d be back and left us at the door for almost 5 minutes. We walked out and plan to never go back, we wouldn’t want to inconvenience him again. I would encourage everyone to avoid bothering him as well.
Quite the charming bar - I love the decor, feeling like I was in a decades old European restaurant.. …
Amazing mussels and staff! The oysters were great also
An unexpected gem in Peterborough. Recommended for their Belgian beer selection and food!
Quite pricey and a great selection of beers. Please take that turkey burger off the menu. I could barely pick it up as the bottom bun was absolutely drenched in whatever that awful sweet sauce was. $21 for that was disappointing. Told the server about it and she smiled and said yea it is very sweet. Oh well I guess. The rest of my group did enjoy what they had (sorry I can't remember what that was)
Excellent choice of beers. I went because someone recommended the Schnitzel...big mistake. They deep fry their Schnitzel to the point you could snap it in half - dry and tough. Deep frying Schnitzel is as bad as grilling a steak well-done - it's a culinary abomination. My partner ordered the poutine, which was a much better choice.
I have been going here for years, love the food and the old bank interior. If you like mussels, you'll love their mussels, everything else is good too.
So torn. Belgian beers were great. Mussels were good but the schnitzel was lacking. Also don't expect to be noticed at the door if you show up as one person and not dressed in business casual. Place overall feels a little pretentious but the beers are good.
Came here for my birthday a few weeks ago. Food is extremely mediocre and over salted. However, the fries and beer are amazing. I would honestly just come here to have a beer and some fries with my friends. Service was also great and the server was extremely helpful in choosing what beers we'd like to taste. Overall would not come here for a meal but definitely would for fries and beer
Love the choice of beer, bring back memories during time in the Netherlands, the fries were top notch, the pastrami sandwich was probably best one I've had so far.
I've been to this restaurant/ pub 3 years ago and had a wonderful experience. Came back this weekend and it was definitely worth it going there again (2-hour driving only for it). …
Truly authentic, truly delicious. Thank you Dave the waiter.
Extensive international beer menu with Trappist beer selection. Excellent Belgian Frites, with yummy sauces like ketchup and curry mayo. Good beet salad and smoked duck salad. Delicious Earl Grey creme Brulee and chocolate coffee cheesecake. Good service.
Great beer, good food. Past few times, though, we really got the feeling from the waitress that we weren't really wanted and were causing some sort of inconvenience; which, if true, is pretty sad during a pandemic when one might think any business is good business.
Delicious food and fantastic beer selection. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about the drinks and always suggest a great pairing.
Amazing service, great atmosphere and delicious food! A bit expensive but 100% worth it, especially if you're going out to celebrate! They have a huge variety of draft and bottled beer and are super knowledgable about their selection. If you aren't familiar with their selection, they can easily help you pick something based on what you usually like! Please choose to support phenomenal local businesses like St. Veronus!
This is one of my kid's favourite spots. Not being a drinker, it is wasted on me. Great variety of Belgian beers. Food is adequate, kind of strange combinations. I had a bratwurst(?) on a bun that was dressed with a curry sauce. Thought it was good for the first few bites, but after that, it was just wrong.
This is a hard review to write. I both loved this place, and was also unimpressed by it. So here goes.. The beer was amazing! The selection was crazy! Prices are a bit high for these drinks, between $7 and $20 (is what I noticed). But I enjoyed it so I can handle a splurge. Then we get to the meal. The food looked amazing! But it was bland. I'm a schnitzel fan and ordered that. It was fresh and hot and very well plated but so bland. I was disappointed, especially for the price tag. My companions meal (a sausage dish) was also bland, but she enjoyed it. I'll give this place another go, if for no other reason than the beer, but the food has some work to do. Service was great!
We went for a drink and something small to snack on. We decided to split and order of fries. Andrea (I think) our waitress suggested that we go for the smaller of the two sizes as she said the portions were quite plentiful. We asked what another table was drinking and she said it was a cherry beer. She offered us a sample and it was very good and I am not a beer drinker. Our fries arrived and she was right. Quite a large serving. What I really loved was the presentation. The fries came in a small bucket along with 4 dipping sauces. Curry, dijon mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise. All were good. Service was excellent and friendly. We will definitely be back.
Cool building, good staff, schnitzel dinner was great, walk-in on a Saturday eve. The selection of beers was extensive and the guy running the tap room was very knowledgeable. Belgian beers are their passion and you can tell they delight in being able to show them off in this restaurant/tap room.
One of the best restaurants in Peterborough! A large menu of beers, mostly from Belgium and area, but a variety of tastes for every beer drinker. They also offer flights to give several a taste, and the servers are very knowledgeable on the products. The food is fresh and delicious! They also have a great selection of appetizers like cheese and charcuterie boards to snack on with some beers. The atmosphere is casual fine dining, I would say. Dim but not too dark lighting makes it for a cozy hangout spot. The price is very reasonable for the quality of product you get. Would return many times!
This is my favourite restaurant on Peterborough. I always make it a point to stop by for lunch and a pint.
Wonderful Taste of Belgium - right in downtown Peterborough! I like to make a habit of waiting until at least the second visit to any restaurant before offering my feedback, good or bad. My first visit to St. Veronus was a great experience, and a pleasant surprise. Now that I've had my second, I can happily report that it was every bit as good. The menu is a really refreshing change from the usual "pub-grub" offered at most restaurant/bars. And yet, they still offer enough variations of familiar stand-bys to please even the least adventurous companion. Everything I've tried -- and I mean everything -- benefits from a whole different level of more complicated recipes, quality ingredients and slow, skilled preparation. The most important ingredient found in all their food is time. Not the herb, but the patience and care given to each dish. You can immediately taste the difference it makes. For example, who doesn't like to indulge in fries once in a while. Well, if you only do it once in a LONG while, save it for St. Veronus. They offer true Belgian-style frites. This is fries the way they were always supposed to be -- and they're incredible. Then there are the soups. Every one I've tried is a wonderful concoction of complex flavours that have obviously been given plenty of time to get to know each other. It's much the same with entrees. You'll be amazed at the deep, rich flavours and tastes. And just as much care and imagination is given to salads and accompaniments. But, of course, I can't forget the beer. In addition to a huge selection of bottled beers, they offer an impressive list of imported Belgian and other draught beers, along with a great menu that includes descriptions of each. The staff is also knowledgeable, and great at offering advice and suggestions. Anyway, I think by now you get the idea. I'm very impressed, and already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommended!
Not one of the greatest restaurants in town... Nice atmosphere inside (no patio) and staff very friendly. Large selection of beverages. However, the food is mediocre at best. We couldn't physically eat our meals. Won't be returning.
What an amazing service. Large collection of different varieties of beers and wines. Service was very good. Staff and waitress are super cool in nature. Spent my day very well. For sure i will be back to this bar soon.
Thanks to one of my favourite bartenders, who's customer service I aspire to (yeah, you Megs), this is where I fell in love with beer. Belgian tripels, unfiltered and imported goodness. Large selection of beers, authentic meals and wonderful customer service. A bit on the pricier end but for valid reasons! Imports cost a fair penny or two compared to domestics. Lovely seating, old building with a lovely seating lay out. Book ahead during peak times, oyster night was always busy.
Delicious mussels Bengal. The BEST sour dough bread and frites accompanying the mussels. I asked if I could purchase a loaf of the sour dough but it's just for restaurant customers only. St Veronus is a gem, not to be miss if you are into Belgium Imports. highly recommend this place. delicious
Visited a little over a week or two ago and sat in the back bier garden. We had an amazing experience. We let our server who was extremely knowledgeable about beer and wine take us on a beverage journey of his choosing. The beer he selected for us were superb and the back story of each made it that much better. The food was phenomenal as well, probably one of the best Turkey burgers I've ever had in my life. I look forward to visiting again soon and trying other items on the menu and working my way through the catalogue of unique beer options.
Great food but terrible customer service on the phone. Every time I try to order takeout I get bad attitude on the phone, how dare I call to give them business. When they closed for dining during pandemic they were doing everything to get the orders and treating people as they deserve, now that they are back to indoor dining and have enough business is back to treating people badly. I just don’t accept being treated like this for wanting to give you my business. Remember, food is amazing and will continue to order but they need to change their attitude.
This is the place to be on a Tuesday night! The half priced mussels are the steak of a century. Head on down the road to galaxy cinemas for a half priced movie and it’s an awesome date night on the cheap. The beer selection is easily the best in the city and rivals those Toronto restaurants. Food is fantastic and the environment is a beautiful olde style pub vibe at night, lots of wood and old windows. Price is expensive but fair for the serving size you get. Can’t say enough good things!
Didn’t get to taste the food! It’s my fault for ignoring the previous reviews from this week. Made reservations. Arrived 15 minutes late-from out of town and couldn’t gage the traffic. Told my reservations were moved to two hours later: “you DID arrive 15 minutes late and there is a 2 hour time limit”. The place was empty! Their loss, went to Publican house and got great beer and food with none of the sass!
Great beer selection. The curry mussels with frites and the fish n’ chips were both very tasty. Excellent service and charming wooden interior.
Our favourite date night restaurant! We are BIG fans of the mussels on Tuesday night. We usually order one (or two!) orders of mussels, the soup of the day, and a feature entree. And of course have a pint or two of the endless amounts of craft beer! We have never been disappointed with the food, or service! Delicious food, friendly staff and lots to drink!
Always a pleasure to dine here, the outdoor dining during covid has a very cozy atmosphere. The food is always a delight and the staff were knowledgeable and attentive. The schnitzel is super crispy and matches the acidity of the coleslaw perfectly. Beer selection is still the best in Peterborough.
Fantastic food and service with a great selection of beverages. Highly recommend!
Came here for a quick (early) dinner and it was great! We had the mussels with fries and the meatballs, all of which were really tasty. The fries were especially good. As a side note, the waiters with us seemed to be on their first day but were super welcoming and helpful when we had questions about the menu.
I do not give out 5 stars lightly! Visited Nov 3rd for dinner with my family for a special occasion. This place did not disappoint! The entire meal was wonderful as was the service and ambiance. Best meal and service I have had in years! The food and service rivaled 200+ dollar meals I have had ! I cannot wait to return!
Wonderful as always but it did take us almost half an hour to get our drinks. Didn't seem to be that busy but maybe our server was having a bad night. The menu made it worth the wait however.
Great food on a Saturday night out with friends. Many, many beers to choose from. Also the main alcohol beverages are offered. The food was amazing. The portions were huge. You won't walk away hungry. he Mussels and Belgium Fries were terrific with 4 choices of broth for the mussels. You have to try this restaurant, you will love it. thanks
Previous reviews are spot on, the place to have a bite to eat in the area, great beer and even better service. I Romberg this place from a visit 3 years ago, I hope it’s still going strong. I promise to visit soon!
Absolutely unreal food, atmosphere and beer! Interesting selection of beer with varying seasonal beers. Also a special import beer list upon request that is very interesting. The food has never disappointed and the staff is very smart in regards to the food and the beer selections. The mussels have NEVER let me down and I wish I lived closer so I could go more often.
Wonderful food. Fabulous service .Great company, Cathy and Adam.. Belgian beer went down a treat. Many thanks.
The food: The beer and fries were amazing. The addition of the 4 special sauces was great, they definitely stood out. Although, the main courses were below average, they were over salted and bland. The restaurant and service: The waiter was kind and very helpful when it came to navigating the expansive beer menu. The food was served within a reasonable amount of time, and hot. The restaurant was a nice spot, and well decorated. Overall, would return for the beer and stay for the fries. Skip the main courses.
Fantastic beer selection. Great decor. My food ok, not great
Good food & good service! They were able to seat us as a walk-in at a busy time & the food was incredible. Would definitely recommend.
I had sausage rolls as an appetizer and they were good. Then the meatball entree which was alright but nothing exciting. Beer selection is excellent.
Has the best food and drink in town at criminally low prices for what you get. The rotating seasonal menu never ever disappoints. All of the wait staff are also incredibly experienced. Perfect atmosphere for a romantic evening.
This restaurant is probably my favourite one in the Kawarthas. The food is excellent. The setting is cozy and elegantly understated. The beer menu is extensive. Go to St. Veronus!
Great selection of beers that you likely won't find outside of the LCBO.
Liked the Belgian theme but the food was so salty that the biggest take away is that of an unpleasant dining experience. To start we had the calimari. The calimari was fresh but the coating was overwhelmingly salty. For my main I had the poutine with meat stew $17 the sauce in the stew was again ridiculously salty. GFs grill fish dish at $26 was a major disappointment. Staff not the warmest lot. With a bill total of over $80 that include a single beer, most definitely will not return.
Extremely good beer selection, delicious food. Well worth the money. In the rare occasion (once) that there was a problem with my food, it was fixed quickly and well beyond my expectations. My wife and I had our first date here and loved it so much that we had our wedding ceremony and dinner here. Whenever a friend or coworker asks for a good place to eat, I always recommend St Veronus.
Awesome and rare beer menu. Food was delicious and the prices are fair. Make sure to try a beer you’ve never heard of before when visiting you won’t be disappointed
