Service was fantastic, Martin is very friendly and has so many good stories. We ordered 3 dishes and they were all delicious and made so fast! Martin even told me that their meats and tortillas are gluten free! Bonus for those of you who don’t eat gluten. Pics of the meal attached but they REALLY don’t compare to how good it really is.

A MUST VISIT!!! I have been here three times now. I have taken a different daughter each time and they love it as well. I get the Tortas (veggie) and the freshness is out of this world; the bun is sooooo crunchy soft. I recommend drinking a tamarind carbonated pop to go with it. Martin is from Mexico and has educated me each time about his really interesting life and Mexican culture; so approachable. I bought some of his Mexican spicy sausage and took his cooking advice. I prepared it just like he said and the house party I went to absolutely loved it. I topped it with some Mexican cheese I bought from him and I was a superstar that night. Thanks Martin. We came in for lunch and were sorely disappointed. The restaurant smelled like fish, though there didn't seem to be seafood on the menu, and that should have been the first warning sign. I ordered chicken quesadillas and was given a choice between plain grilled chicken and pollo de crema, which I was told came in a cream sauce that included, among other ingredients, caramelized onions. The sauce tasted like mayonnaise and was otherwise flavorless, no hint of seasoning or caramelized onions. Upon first bite, I crunched down on a bone and barely got through the second bite. I stopped eating because the chicken did not test fresh or high quality and the pile of chicken in the sauce was bad to the point of inedible. The only nice thing about the meal was the Jarritos soda the restaurant sold. The two staff members were very friendly and welcoming, but the food experience was awful and I wouldn't go back, nor would I recommend La Mesita to anyone else.

This is the place to come for authentic Mexican fare. Everything is made from scratch and is very flavourful. The restaurant is cozy and inviting, with a few tables to sit at, and options to take out as well. If you want the real flavours of Mexico, I highly recommend this well priced restaurant for lunch or dinner!

Delicious fresh food. Everything is made in house so they're very knowledgeable of what's in the food, if you have any allergies they're very knowledgeable on dietary restrictions. Peanut free restaurant, I myself and allergic to dairy and have had no issues eating there. The toritas are authentic Mexican so they're made with corn and not gluten.

We came here for a date night, and were immediately warmly greeted by the owner. He gave us a run down of the menu items and spoke passionately about all the choices. We had some tacos and the chicken soup from the 2 Can Dine option for $19.99 and were not disappointed. The owner was friendly, helpful, and efficient with every step of the process. We finished our meal with a maple chipotle Mayan Cupcake which was the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted. Phenomenal place. Will definitely be recommending to everyone.

We had an amazing experience here. The owners of the restaurant is a really jolly chap and the tacos we were served were absolutely delicious. We will definitely visit again if we are in town. We wanted to try their Mayan cupcakes but looks like they are heavily in demand and they were out of those two of the days I tried. Try the pulled pork tacos, they were our favorites. This place has a bunch of vegetarian options too.

Over-filled tacos on soggy corn tortillas that fell apart before the first bite. We had the meat and veggie option, the vegetarian option was a joke:cold beans and rice instead of meat or tofu. Way too expensive for what we got. The salsas were alright but not too fresh. Staff were nice but the food was disappointing for the price $$

Right from the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcome. We were greeted by the owner, who then asked us if we had been here before. We told him we hadn't and he went on to explain all the items on the menu which was extremely helpful. I ordered brisket tacos which were EXTREMELY delicious. My sister ordered pulled pork tacos which she also said were delicious, and my mother ordered the pulled pork torta which she said was delicious as well. All 3 of us were full when we left. For authentic mexican food, the price is definitely fair in my opinion. The owner is an extremely nice gentleman who is very helpful, friendly, welcoming, and hilarious. The atmosphere is very welcoming, the decorations make you feel like you're in Mexico, as does the music. We will most definitely be back. 'Mexican' food at any other place we have been to in Peterborough doesnt even compare to this place.

Not only the best tacos in town,but Martin overall is just a great cook! We were in tonight picking up our preordered thanksgiving turkey dinner and grabbed the Fajita Friday special for dinner. Absolutely recommend the green salsa! Noticed they have a lot more specials and combos too. I always like reading through other reviews and I must say I have never felt like food portions were small or overpriced, always had good service, and no they don't have hot sauce because its AUTHENTIC Mexican food... Why wreck it with hot sauce? And customers seated are not required to wear masks.... Only if customers are up and walking about.... Thank you for staying open during these trying times.. My hubby and I found this place by accident one day in our travels through Peterborough. The reviews said authentic cuisine and my interest was piqued. Upon entering we were greeted by the owner/chef who was very enthusiastic and he proceeded to explain the menu and all the choices. The smell in the air was fantastic and the food matched the smell. I love Taco’s and have eaten them around the world, thus was very excited to hear about a new “authentic” taco joint on Hunter S; Le Mesita. What a Disappointment! A soggy taco shell, filled with bland rice and topped with a table spoon full of bland two day old stewed chicken and watery tasteless salsa. A sodden boring mess that disintegrated and splattered the dinky paper plate it was served in. And to top it off, its $5.50 for one of these rice filled abominations. Don’t bother with Le Mesita and skip on down the street to one of the many other Hunter restaurants with excellent Taco’s. Decepcionante comida..

My wife and I are adjusting to life in Peterborough and adjusting to the lack of variety as compared to Toronto. La Mesita is authentic Mexican … not Americanized at all. The owner pickles all his sauces/condiments sourcing ingredients from disparate sources, as he explained to us. Having never been to Mexico, I have relied on recommendations in south Detroit and San Diego in the past. Detroit has a relatively large Mexican community renowned for its authentic and regional food offerings. La Mesita has that authenticity and really tasty food. We will be back soon!!!

Had an issue with an order it was a bit different from normal, it took a total of one hour after getting the food and speaking to the owner and he is going to rectify it. Best food in ptbo, absolutely great managment and staff that work inside. Martin is great (he is the owner.) Anyone looking for something new (we are white as white can be) Mexican food, especially the beef barbacoa, give it a try you won’t be disappointed. Thanks Martin and la mesita!

First time i went was a couple months ago, and I haven’t been able to stop going back. All the staff are very friendly and personable, the owner is often there and he’s quite the lovable human. The food is unbelievable. It feels like food I would eat if invited into someone’s home; and not a single option has disappointed me so far. Love how there’s so many gluten free options and vegetarian choices. My go-to is the suadero taco, can’t go wrong.

This is the real deal. Authentic and filling tacos. Tried the 20$ 4 taco and mango salad special. We had the Cochinita Pibil, Pollo a la Crema as well as two versions of beef. All were fantastic! If you like tacos stuffed with good things, go there. Corn tortillas, fresh ingredients, four different salsas and drinks from Mexico including Coke (made with cane sugar!) I'm going back to work my way through the menu! BTW, if you like spicy, you may want to mention it when you order or you can always spice it up later with the salsas.

This is one of the best taco spots I've been to in a long time, and rivals the best in Toronto. Great spot, really nice person working there (owner?) when we got there. Very welcoming, looked like nice fresh ingredients. Good deal for the 2 can dine taco special as well. Will return any time we are in Peterborough!

We came here for a date night, and were immediately warmly greeted by the owner. He gave us a run down of the menu items and spoke passionately about all the choices. We had some tacos and the chicken soup from the 2 Can Dine option for $19.99 and were not disappointed. The owner was friendly, helpful, and efficient with every step of the process. We finished our meal with a maple chipotle Mayan Cupcake which was the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted. Phenomenal place. Will definitely be recommending to everyone.

Traditional Mexican done perfectly. The owner was friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. Family friendly with most dishes being mild but flavorful and different salsas to add spice.

But the staff are friendly and explain the varieties and flavour combinations. We took their recommendations, trying one each of steak, pork, chicken, and beef, with several mouth watering garnishes (and eye watering in a few cases). The pickled onions and jalepenos were our favourite. Sharing 4 tacos and a wonderful mango salad set us back $20 (daily special). Three pops and tip put it just over $30 but I'd say it was money well spent.

I am not quite sure how so many stars were given to this restaurant. We came here specifically because of the reviews. The service was kind however the food fell short. The tacos and fajitas did not have the full flavor expected from an 'authentic' Mexican restaurant. Salsas weren't spicy as expected. Vegetarian/vegan options were pretty sad; it was basically a 3 bean/corn base that you could get on every other dish dishes. The corn tortillas that held it together were also soggy. Nothing special or exciting.

So delighted to encounter truly authentic and flavourful Mexican food. I am Mexican and am often left wanting by restaurants that tone down the flavours and make substitutions that more resemble Americanized versions of Mexican food. La Mesita is the real deal. Very happy to see some of my personal favourite and hard to find offerings such as tortas, choriqueso, and chilaquiles served here. The empanadas, chorizo, and cochinita pibil are excellent and I look forward to sampling the rest of the menu.

Too many onions!! I prefer no onion so unfortunately I couldn’t eat the chicken tacos, or nachos. Loaded nachos were onions cheese and peppers. Salsa was good though...

Just had dinner here tonight while in Peterborough for a couple nights and it was so good! Had the Suadero, Conchinita and Pollo a la Crema tacos... the chicken was my favourite but all three were great. There was only 1 guy working, I assume the owner, and even though he was by himself he was super friendly and the food was ready really quickly. Would definitely eat here again.
