With few authentic Mexican options in Toronto, I was very surprised to see such a great choice in Peterborough. They do fancy up the presentation, but this is classic Mexican with a lot of great options. The Azteca Soup is fantastic. Entrees are large. If you have to many appetizers you won't finish it. Our bill was $125 for three people (but we ordered probably $10 worth of food we didn't need and had 6 imported beers in that total (roughly another $35 worth).

Wow!! This was our first time visiting, and it will not be our last. Very nice atmosphere on the patio in this beautiful weather! Everything we ordered tasted fresh and amazing! Service was great! I only have one complaint, and that is that I didn't come here sooner. We have always lived in Ptbo and it's clear that we have been missing out on this awesome restaurant! HIGHLY recommend!! ???? Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

For someone who has been to Mexico 5 times, I can certainly say this place is the most authentic I have experienced in Canada! For those that are not aware, authentic Mexican taste a little different from the standard US/Canadian "Tex Mex". We went for lunch on Saturday. The place was not overly busy. The service was very friendly and chilled. All the food we tried was enjoyable. prices are average to slightly more expensive.

I really enjoy eating here. Pricey though. Service is lovely and the food is just so well flavoured. What you expect to be sour is sour, hot to be hot, nutty to be nutty. It is definitely a place to spoil your taste buds. So much to still try on their menu!

First of all, the chips and salsa are SO GOOD! The chips taste so fresh and delightful, along with the salsa. I got the chicken fajitas and I must say it's the best I've ever had! And the guacamole is to die for!

As a Mexican, this is the most authentic (and delicious) Mexican food. They actually sell the food that I miss from down south. It’s not your classic Tex-Mex, fast food, taco joint. It is a casual Mexican restaurant in the heart of Peterborough. As advertised: “a little corner of Mexico in Canada”.

I have eaten here many times over the years and have loved it. While in town this weekend I brought my husband to try the food I have raved about. We were able to sit out in an alley portion that was decorated and felt very much like being in Mexico. It was lovely. The food however has changed since I was last there a few years ago. Perhaps new owners. I had the nachos and they were bland. Chips too thick and unsalted, very little cheese, and no salsa at all. My husband had enchiladas and although the portion was a good size he said it tasted very bland.

A friend and I met for dinner. We sat in the patio area between the two buildings. Lovely space with lights. Our young male waiter attentive and lovely. We never felt rushed even though the restaurant was busy. Food was very good and plentiful. The sangria was excellent. All round great evening.

I wanted to try this restaurant with my friends and we enjoyed the food, and the ambience. Not to lie, had great Mexican flavours. But disappointed with their service, I’m really concerned about the way the treated us! Really not happy. The waitress literally dropped the food at the corner of our table, that was obviously rude and disrespectful. We didn’t wanna make a fuss of it that night. Well, being honest here I didn’t see they treated anyone else in the same manner. “If your restaurant wants only white people to visit” I am really sorry about that and we’re not happy with your service.

Way overpriced, and honestly I don’t know if I ordered the wrong thing but it was salty and bland. I’ve had fantastic authentic Mexican food outside of Peterborough and this just didn’t hit the mark. I feel like I was robbed 13 dollars for a side a guacamole seems a little ridiculous to me.

My favourite is always tacos al pastor - three soft shell tacos with pork and pineapple, with a side of refried beans and guacamole. Also delish chips and salsa for the table to start, and we always add the guac appetizer.

Fantastic Mexican restaurant on the popular Hunter St. The margaritas are incredible, and pair well with their famous guacamole and homemade chips. The nachos were a bit underwhelming but the Alambre Al Pastor made up for it. They were unfortunately out of the Grillo - tacos served with locally grown crickets. Would definitely visit again to explore more of the menu. Dog friendly with outdoor seating was plus.

A very charming establishment. The design is very reflective of it's Mexican cuisine, and the staff is very friendly. The menus themselves could use a bit of a touch up, mine was literally falling apart, and my dining partner's was in almost as poor condition. Our food was delicious and, from what I could tell, very authentic. Portions are a little small, especially for the price, but the flavour makes up for it.

However I returned for a second visit this month and found the salsa tasteless and lacking salt, I ordered the Enchiladas , they were good but I thought they were over price by about $5.00. so I think if I'm going to spend $23.99 for my main I'll be going elsewhere.

My partner and I went here for lunch last Friday afternoon as we were running errand in PTB. The server was extremely friendly and attentive and went over and above to cater to a food restriction due to an allergy...she came out several times to ask questions so that the kitchen got it right. We ordered their lunch specials and the soup and burrito we got were fantastic! Portions were very good for the price and we ended up taking half home for a midnight snack. Dining room was cozy and authentic...will definitely be back to try some cocktails on their patio.

This is the best Mexican restaurant we have ever been to. The food was amazing and the portion size was insane. We loved every bite. The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are a Mexican food fanatic such as myself.

I had the most delicious pulled pork caranitas at this restaurant while out on the patio with a friend, and I'm telling you, I couldn't get enough of them. Each one was just over $5 and it only took two of then to fill me up, I believe I even had leftovers! They also put out what I would guess is homemade chips (as in, like, tostitos, not French fries) and they come for free with your meal! This place is great for a date and great for the family. It is a completely authentic Mexican restaurant though so there may not be all the drink selections you might like, such as a vodka and soda or ginger ale etc. Totally worth visiting. I was shocked to find this gem in Peterborough!

I have not found a more authentic Mexican place in a long, long time. The food was fresh and delicious. The guacamole has chunks of avocado, the tortillas are authentic mais tortillas. The salsas all taste homemade and come in a good size portion. The platters seem expensive, but it's a lot of food, all fresh and colourful and flavourful. I will definitely be back and highly recommend the pescado (fish) on a bed of Mexican rice and salsa verde topped with tortilla chips, guac, and mango salsa. I just wish they had ceviche!

On a visit to Peterborough we found this restaurant on Google and decided to ear there. We had some doubts when we entered. The restaurant was empty and the staff cleaning up. But once the food and drinks arrived, all our doubts evaporated. The margaritas were jus out of the world. The corn chips and salsa very fresh. The guacamole equally fresh. And the food, exquisite. Great in presentation and undoubtedly great in taste. Every dish we ordered exceeded expectations. This and the very cosy atmosphere makes the place very definitely worth visiting again.

My family and I have visited the restaurant for my birthday. My daughters brought their babies with them. The babies were not in great moods and as a result we were a little loud and disruptive. The staff was beyond supportive and helpful. I cannot give them enough credit. The service was very good and the food tasted great. This restaurant has a patio extended into their alleyway. They have set up tables that are DIRECTLY in front of my bedroom AND my BATHROOM window. It makes me wonder what kind of people are totally ok with exposing their customers to the smells and sounds that come from a bathroom that 2 people use and 3 cats use. This is also annoying for me, especially when the employees are drinking after hours and being loud outside my BEDROOM window at midnight, even when there are all the other tables to chose from. The sound is annoying enough but the fact that i can see their silhouettes is disturbing (meaning i can also see customers silhouettes daily and hear their conversations) and that the only thing stopping customers from seeing me is that my window is THANKFULLY frosted. But if i were to open it we would both have a clear view of each other. I have never been to this restaurant nor would i EVER order from them after seeing the complete disrespect they show, not just for their neighbours, but for their very own customers.

La Hacienda is my happy place. Great food and great atmosphere, really good for smaller groups of 2-4 people. I've been there many times, and every single thing on their menu is a winner. The margaritas there are to die for, and the sangria is the best I've ever had. One slight negative, the staff are very lax. They have a very laissez-faire attitude, and tend to chat amongst themselves quite a lot. But, to be fair it's a very small resturant so it's more obvious then in others. And, all of the wait staff are always unbelievably friendly, and very accommodating. Last time I was there they were very close to closing and didn't realize, but when I order the churos for dessert, they happily turned on the fryers again for me without the snide look or comments I have come to expect from wait staff these days. Overall, excellent resturant, it's my favorite for all special occasions!

The food at La Hacienda is a revelation. This isn't only the best Mexican food in Peterborough, this is the best food in Peterborough period. I came here a year after my first time naturally assuming that prices had increased, or the food quality/serving size/etc had decreased as usually happens with great restaurants and time. I was delighted that everything was exactly the same. The real, fresh food, the friendly, attentive, but not over-the-top service, the warm interior and atmosphere, the generous servings. You can just taste that everything is handmade, and nothing is coming into the restaurant to prepacked and frozen (like many other "higher end" restaurants in town). If you are going to support local restaurants during COVID, definitely support this one.

Ordered take out today, was so disappointed, the food was certainly not fresh, got the chicken taco kit, the chicken had tiny bits of onion and tasted and looked like it was soaked in watered down tomato juice, no flavour at all, the corn tortillas were dry and tasted very stale, the salsa and the guacamole were bland, we received chips that we didn't order, they were good but could have used some salt and the churros we ordered we didn't receive. Ate there years ago and loved it, but won't be back.

If you like semi-cool room temperature nachos with barely melted cheese fresh from the microwave (staff confirmed they use microwave to heat nachos) then this is the place for you. The chips were great but they were cold along with the cheese. The meat in the tacos tasted like they had been in the fridge for a while. Service was less then mediocre. It is COVID times so I imagine far less traffic and so not a fresh stock of ingredients and food in the kitchen, and maybe less inspired service as a result of diminished human contact from these strange times- The guac and salsa tasted good, but yeah, won’t be returning here.

This would be great for a little side stall but for 25 dollars a dish take out and we ordered 3. We had about a table spoon of refried beans in our dishes. The vegetarian fajitas consisted of some sautéed veggies and rice with again a serving of a table spoon of refried beans! The corn tortillas tasted like cardboard. The only bright side was that the serving of shrimp was fresh and decent and the guacamole was good. At least you folks should be more reasonable in pricing your food according to what you are providing customers rather than ripping them off. In no way was this meal worth 85 dollars!

Excellent, authentic Mexican food with a real emphasis on quality... tried salsa was very flavourful,, and not too hot for my tastebuds! Hot sauce was fairly mild with an amazing smoky flavour. Decent dinner... I was convinced to get the "deluxe fajitas" by the when waiter I couldn't decide on which I wanted. The chicken and beef were both very dry, but the shrimp was delicious. My partner ordered the enchiladas and gives 5 stars! Note- seating by the window isn't heated very well in the winter months, so sit inside if you want to be cozy.

My cousin and I met up at Hacienda in the hopes of sitting on the patio but the weather was overcast and had been rainy, No sitting outside today. :( Did not matter!. Inside we were warmly greeted, the tables were placed apart with a portable shield between, we felt safe. The server was very friendly and helped us decide what to order for a light lunch. The food was fabulous, loved the cactus salad. My cousin and I got to play catch-up in an atmosphere of not being rushed but catered to. Great day! Gracias para todo.

One of my favourite restaurants in Peterborough in terms of food quality. The food is unbelievably fresh. There is no need to oversalt/oversweeten/over-oil anything (which is common in many North American-centered restaurants) because it is that good and authentic. The servings are more than generous, and every order comes with homemade chips and salsa. Excellent presentation, excellent food, friendly and tasteful service.

Had a great meal with friends here on the weekend. I had the enchiladas and soup Azteca both were amazing - definitely too much food for one person but the enchiladas heated up surprisingly well in my oven the next day.

Super slow service. We were placed at a table outside in between the buildings (at sunset) seemed like a nice enough spot...when it got dark there was zero lights around to even see our food. I had to use my cell phone flashlight to see anything. Food took 2hrs.

Just loved this place. Went to see my Son at College and he wanted Fajitas. So we found this place. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were perfect. You need to try the asada tacos. Very very good. The fajitas my Son had were excellent too. The waiter was great. Just a good spot.

I took a girl here on a friend-date. It was very cute. The waitress was super hospitable and easy to talk to. The beverage selection had me pondering what to get for a long time. And the Carne asada was tender, flavourful, and presented beautifully. It would have been a perfect experience except the waitress took my friend's side over mine and let her pay for the whole bill :/

Man oh man. Anybody commenting "the food was bland" is smoking the good stuff! Wife and I ate lunch here today for the first time. Great atmosphere, great service, excellent food! The soup was especially phenomenal. Would absolutely recommend heading in for a lunch special!

Excellent authentic Mexican food with a nice atmosphere, especially in the summer when you can eat on the patio. The only reason I did not leave five stars is that the service could have been a bit faster. Overall, La Hacienda is probably the best Mexican place in Peterborough.
