I'm quite particular about where I choose to eat, yet Hanoi House is definitely one of my few go-to favourites in Peterborough. We've had such a great experience both with their food and the quality of their service. My only reservation was the sustainability of their choice in take-out containers but, after talking to Susan about alternatives, they switched from styrofoam to biodegradable containers! Extra points for being open to customer feedback :D Would definitely recommend this place!

I think about the Chicken Tom Yum soup on a daily basis. This is hands down the best I've ever had. I am currently eating it cold as I can't wait for the microwave. Portions are generous with enough for Second Dinner. The broth is heavenly.

Ordered from Hanoi House for the very first time today. The online order process was super simple and everything was laid out in a very clean and easy to understand way. I ordered tofu vermicelli and my boyfriend got the (spicy) classic bahn mi. We are both blown away at how good this food is; it's flavourful, it's presented beautifully (even in takeout dishes!) and we are both completely full. They give you so much! I don't know the specifics of what the boyfriend liked about his Bahn Mi but he kept saying it was "so good" between bites as his eyes and nose watered from the spice. My tofu was so fluffy and tender, my noodles were slurped down with that tasty fish sauce and I don't even have proper words right now, I'm just in my full and content space. We've had our fair share of Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Korean food locally - but it looks like this little Vietnamese place is going to make its way to the top of our list.

I tried Vietnamese food for the first time at Hanoi House in Downtown Peterborough in March, 2020. I was so excited for this new business to open and than the pandemic hit. After a quick pivot, I watched the owner Susan spring into action by offering takeout + delivery options. She worked so hard to get her business up + running than tackle another unexpected hurdle with an unprecedented event. Susan is now opening a second location + I couldn't be more proud! I will continue to support this local business, Hanoi House because the food is always fresh + always delicious! The owners + their staff are always so kind. Please consider trying this food. If you don't love it like I do ... just know that you supported a local business + tried something new! Thank you Susan for bringing this wonderful new food to the Peterborough area!

Super good! Fresh! The banh mi was amazing! (vegan too!) and when I asked for super spicy they didnt cheap out I had an awesome first meal here. I tried the Vegan Banh Mi, at first I wasnt sure what I should expect and then the flavours bite after bite went so perfectly together. im still thinking about it a week later I look forward to visiting the lansdowne location which is more accessible to me now as well

I can't go more than a few days without ordering from Hanoi House. Susan is the best, her staff is always super friendly, the food is incredible (and packed with veggies so how can you even feel bad eating it constantly??) Seriously, if you haven't ordered from Hanoi yet, do it. And treat yourself to a Vietnamese coffee too -- hot or cold, the perfect treat. (Great, now I'm hungry again...)

Hanoi House is the best! My partner and I are huge fans of this place and have a lot of feelings. Susan is a food magician and we are so grateful for her and her amazing team. - Banh mis: Flavourful and authentic, they reminded us of our favourite banh mi place in Hoi An so you know it's legit - Vermicelli bowls: They are to die for! We get them every time we're in town (I get the chicken, he gets the tofu) and it always hits the spot. They are fresh, made with quality ingredients, and super great for value. - Other stuff - Vietnamese iced coffees = perfection, fresh rolls = incredibly satisfying. We've also made their frozen dumplings and those are insanely good. TL;DR go eat here, you will not regret it! So thankful Peterborough has Hanoi House for our Vietnamese food fix.

I think what makes Hanoi House my favourite place in town for the past few months is Susan and her hospitality! I think so many restaurants/ businesses with good food forget the human touch- and Susan provides exactly that. One food item I am absolutely in love with is the tofu Bahn Mi (extra spicy- how I like it). The bread has a fresh crunch, and this sandwich is exactly up my price range. Going to hanoi house is economical, and fun. Susan really likes to know you as a person, and is always open for recommendations. I also really like their drinks! So funky and fresh!!! If you’re a student, check this place out!

Overall it was a good experience, The food: We ordered the beef and house special Pho, the broth was okay. It didn't having any defining qualities that made it stand out, but it wasn't bad either. The beef was a bit bland; similar to the broth, it was 'okay'. In summary, the Pho was average, a change to the broth would drastically improve the taste. The Vietnamese iced coffee also fell flat, following the pattern of mediocricy. The restaurant & service: The servers were extremely kind and welcoming and food was served fast. The ambiance was great, appealing to the local demographic in a way other restaurants have yet to figure out. The new flavours of food differ from the homogeneity of downtown Peterborough; instead, offering a new experience. Im glad we got to try it out, but as the Pho stands I don't think we'd return for it. Although, the menu is expansive and there are other dishes to try.

Wow! We’re from TO and have had our fair share of pho. The broth is so beefy and full of aromatics - we can taste the star anise, cloves and cinnamon. The meat, tendon and tripe were so tender. We also ordered the grilled chicken bun. The chicken was well seasoned and grilled. Lots of fresh lettuces and pickled carrots. The only thing I missed was the cilantro! Lastly we ordered the pork belly bahn mi. The meat was very tasty and the only feedback is that we would’ve preferred the Vietnamese baguette over the French baguette for a lighter, more fluffy texture! Over, love the vibe of the place and the food. Would come back for oysters if we lived here. Maybe on another trip!!!

Friendly service with covid protocols in place. Had the fried spring rolls, fresh shrimp rolls and special noodle soup. Spring rolls were hot and fresh. Shrimp rolls were fresh and tasty and served with the usual peanut sauce. Nice and refreshing. Noodle soup had plenty of meat and a tasty broth but the bland noodles lessened the flavour. Overall it was okay, if a little pricey at just under $50 total.

Incredible tofu banh mi & pho! Hanoi House has quickly become one of our favourite restaurants in Peterborough. My husband and I get spicy tofu banh mi at least once a week now - we’re obsessed! When I’m not eating it I’m thinking about it! ???? So much flavour! We only ate in once when they first opened but we loved the decor & cozy vibe - they have certainly made the most of the small space they had to work with. We’re staying away from patios for now, but the food is just as fresh as a takeout order. We appreciate the thought and care that has gone into this restaurant - Susan has been very accommodating to vegan customers, even adding a vegan mayo option for the sandwiches. It is clear that everyone involved really cares about excellent (& fresh!) food, as well as great service!

Had a fantastic curbside meal here with the family during "the COVID". Oysters were amazing to start and the Pho we had (beef for me and vegetarian for the wife and kids) was so great - not as salty as some places and confirmed no MSG. The fresh shrimp roll was also good and my wife really enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee (next time for dessert though). Pints were cold too... really nice experience overall!

Love the updated decor. PTBO needs much more of this. The broth was pretty good. Rice noodles we're all broken up though, that's a pet peeve of mine. Also, some basil and lime on the side should just be a thing. $4 for 4 teeny shrimp? Pass. All in all, pretty good. Lots of room for improvement. Will come back for sure.

My best friend growing up was Vietnamese... we come home from school and she’d raid my fridge for left over “white people” food and then we head to her place where I would have my chance to gobble down all the best home cooked authentic Vietnamese food I wanted. Her mom would feed me non stop... “eat... eat!!” By far my favourite was her Pork Bánh Mì... and since moving out of Toronto have gone without. Well that’s all changed!!! Today I discovered Hanoi House which apparently I’m a little late to the party as they opened last February... but I’m so happy I found them!! The Pork Bánh Mì I had today was just like mom used to make!!! Even if she wasn’t my real mom!! Amazing flavour already planning my next visit!!! Good job Hanoi House can’t wait to try more!

Tried the lemongrass chicken banh mi sandwich and went back the next day for another. Simply outstanding! Edit: Alright, I'll just say it. This is the BEST restaurant in Peterborough, if not the entire surrounding area. The ingredients are so fresh, the meat is always cooked to perfection, everything is incredibly reasonably priced, and the staff are beyond lovely (shoutout to Jordan)! I've told practically everyone I know that if they're ever near the area to make the trip—it's beyond worth it!

Picked up a couple of banh mi sandwiches today, my boyfriend tried the chicken and I had the fried tofu. I absolutely LOVED the fried tofu sandwich, it was flavorful and so yummy! The bread wasnt as fresh as I would have liked but we also went right at the end of the day. The chicken was a hit as well! We cant wait until things open up more as we would love to sit down and try some of the other dishes! Looking forward to trying the vegetarian dishes, I find it quite difficult to make a flavorful vegetarian pho, so I'm always on the look out!

I have ordered delivery multiple times for Hanoi House, they drop it off right at my door step with great communication. The frozen dumplings are amazing, the banh mi is to die for and the pho is so filling and comforting. Took my girl here for a date night and we had a amazing night out. Right from when we entered the restaurant we where welcome right away and seated. The server Suzan was beyond exceptional and knew the menu like the back of her hand. My girlfriend is a fussy eating and has some food allergies. They were extremely professional and could modify the ingredients in their dishes for her allergies. Right then and there I knew I'm gonna be come back the way the handle there custermers is seconded to none. the rest of the night was filled with fast service and a relaxing environment. 10 out of 10 would recommend! Food was amazing.

I've eaten on the patio about 10 times since it's opened and have gotten pick up many times! Every time the service has been friendly and the food has been ready in under 20 minutes. The owner is super friendly and a great business person. I love the inner decor and the general vibe too. As someone who is veg , there are a few options but the best is the tofu bánh mì with extra chilies. As a student , I appreciate the cheap prices and lovely service! Hope this place sticks around!

The beef didn't have much flavour and broth was okay. I loved that they serve tea right when you sit down as well. i am also confused by all of the wonderful reviews. my first and only experience was ordering a Bahn mi sandwich, which i had called ahead and ordered. i was told it would be 15 minutes. i arrived 15 minutes later only to wait another 20 minutes... for the wrong sandwich. i ordered the chicken and got tofu, so was overcharged. the bun was clearly heated and then cooled so it was hard as a rock. there was practically no sauce, so quite dry. very disappointed bc i LOVE Vietnamese food. that said, i am open to trying their food again. i’m not one to bash local businesses, however, i will be honest when i have a bad experience. this was very disappointing...

The food was great! The restaurant just opened and was very busy. I had take out. The shrimp rice wraps were delicious, the vermacilli and rice dishes were excellent. I definitely want to come back for oysters. The restaurant is very modern and has a great vibe. I would recommend it to everyone!

A great little addition to the Hunter street restaurant scene filling the gap for a downtown vietnamese restaurant. Good service, nice decor, the oyster bar wasn't open yet. We started with good crispy spring roll and cold shrimp roll with a great sauce to dip in. The entrees were good but average. The pho was good and the pork rice dish was a bit dry/bland for our taste. However, for the love of pho we'll definitely be back once the restuarant has had a chance to fully establish itself.

Very friendly, engaging staff. Charming interior decor even though I got take out. Incredibly fresh and flavourful food. Had the pork banh mi...the bread was so chewy while the savory spices on the juicy pork involved all my taste buds. The pork was as mouth-watering on the vermicelli. (Pork isn't necessarily listed on their menu but they do have it at times so ask). Absolutely delicious.

I'm not sure where all these reviews come from, but I felt duped by them. To be fair, I only had their version of the phô, but that was terrible. I've been to Vietnam, and lived in Scarborough for many years, and I know good phô when I taste it, and this isn't it. They need to hire a cook that A: knows what they're doing; and B: is willing to put the time into the broth. Let me know when you have done this, and I'll come back and change my review. And for the love of all that's good - make some spring rolls that aren't fried! Very simple to make, and can be incredibly delicious if done correctly. *** Edit for owner response*** Clearly I didn't care about the money, or I would have asked for mine back - what I actually wanted that day was good soup. I would have paid more for something that tasted remotely like it. So judging by your response you're not going to listen to good advice then I should assume? Instead of responding like a child to actual culinary criticism, you could concentrate on making your food better, you know, more like actual Phở and not whatever swill you're conjuring up. I guess people from Peterborough don't know any better? Oh well. *If you want to taste what actual Phở tastes like and don't want to go all the way to Vietnam, try Pho Metro in Scarborough. Broth is perfect, rare beef is plentiful and tender, and there are actual Vietnamese people running it! Super friendly too! And they have spring rolls with or without shrimp.

Pleasantly surprised to find the best Vietnamese food we've ever had in Canada is right here in Peterborough! We've traveled many times to Vietnam and traveled across Canada trying Vietnamese food, and this place is definitely one of the most authentic. All of their ingredients are super fresh and prepared perfectly. I especially loved their shrimp fresh spring roles where they literally stuffed with shrimp and the noodle wrap was really soft (the way it should be)! Also, their prices are very reasonable. Will definitely be coming back!

Not a bad Vietnamese restaurant. I enjoyed the chicken wings; they were nice and crispy, yes, but in my opinion were slightly too salty. The Banh Mi was pretty good, but the cilantro was too much on one half, and the other half had none at all. The Pho was delicious, but it tasted like it was made with chicken broth instead of the traditional beef broth. I also got a piece of what tasted like pork in my beef Pho. Overall, I think this restaurant is good but needs some work, and with that work, would become a great, authentic Vietnamese restaurant.

Decided to try Hanoi House after reading an article about Susan Tung in the Millbrook Times. I ordered (take out) for my family. We ordered both the Beef and Lemongrass Vermicelli with Vegetable Spring rolls and a Classic Banh Mi. Everything was delicious! The portions were very generous, actually I couldn't finish mine and had the rest of my Beef Vermicelli for lunch today and it was great cold! One suggestion I might offer is to pack the spring rolls separately (in an open bag so they don't steam) from the entree as they did arrive home more steamed than crispy, or I may just get the frozen ones and fry them up myself the next time. And there will be a next time!

Best tofu bánh mì in Canada? It's likely! Great flavours, ingredients and fresh bread. Friendly and knowledgable staff + nice patio environment. The sandwich was so good that I got a second one to go. All in all, a great experience and will definitely stop in next time I roll through Peterborough to try more of the menu. So I just ordered the vegetarian pho and I have to say this is easily the most bland broth I’ve ever had, it lacks any umami character. Vegetables were fresh and noodles were prepared properly. But pho should be all about the broth and that goes without being said. Staff were very friendly, I wish I could support this place but they first need to put more attention to that broth.

Fantastic restaurant !! This little spot is phenomenal. Best spring rolls I’ve ever had, oysters are always so fresh, the broken rice and pho are always so hard to choose between. 10/10 !! Must try. Absolutely the worst Pho I have ever tasted. I went in starved and could only choke down a few mouthfuls, my boyfriend I left both our meals virtually untouched. The noodles are not Vietnamese rice noodles, and the broth was terrible! It tasted like water boiled with onions and salt...a lot of salt. You couldn't pay me to go back there again!

Super friendly and welcoming staff, beautiful decor, and absolutely incredible food. The pho is the best you can find in Peterborough, hands down! The vegetarian spring rolls are a must-have, as well. I highly suggest you finish your meal with a hot Vietnamese coffee, it's a perfectly rich finish to a very fresh and delicious meal. The meal was so fantastic I just had to get some frozen pork & shrimp dumplings to make at home! We will definitely be back many, many times. Thank you so much to Hanoi House for a fantastic anniversary dinner!

Thought we would try this thinking was authentic. We ordered 2 specials beef and garlic noodles and 2 shrimp and garlic noodles. To our surprise it was spaghetti with a little bit of meat. The curry was awful. If you are going for pho it was the only ok thing we ordered, just ok. This is definitely canadian chain fast food overpriced. Not to return again

We recently went to celebrate a birthday with a group. Yes it is cozy, but the energy of this establishment is great! Susan and her team did a fantastic job of accommodating our group! The food is fresh and delicious, portions are large, you will leave feeling full but not weighed down! After hankering for some vegan pho for months, I finally ordered recently and had a mostly excellent experience. I have a few dietary necessities due to a current health issue, and when I asked for a half portion of noodles, and was automatically offered extra veg to compensate! I was also accommodated by having the onions cooked a bit in the broth, and the tofu not fried. They also agreed to deliver it at a certain time. The soup was pretty dang tasty, though I felt the intense umami of the mushrooms made the broth taste a bit thin. There was also almost no fat in it, which was weird, but I assume the ordinarily-fried tofu would have imparted some oil. A big satisfying portion. The only negative part of the experience was the delivery guy. He showed up without a mask on and said only: "you order food?". I'm assuming this was some independently hired guy and not an employee, but either way this isn't currently acceptable conduct. I'm not a high risk person but he doesn't know that. And how many other deliveries had he made? Hopefully this is something the business can figure out how to weed out.

Plenty of options for different dietary restrictions, as someone who doesn’t eat meat I haven’t found that I’ve had to compromise aspects of a meal to eat here! Best place ever! I've tried the vermecelli bowls, oysters, fresh vegetable rolls, spring rolls, and tofu bahn mi and have NEVER been disappointed! Food is always fresh and service is excellent. The atmosphere at both locations is great. I drive like 40 minutes 2-3 times a month to get food here it's that good! Every friend that I have brought here has also loved it! 5 stars!
