Great little spot with a well-rounded menu (went for brunch) and cute atmosphere. We had mimosa's to start our special occasion (reason for going) and I had an Eggs Benedict with home fries and my friend had their breakfast sandwich which the bagel was made in-house and delicious! We also bought a butter tart for home and a loaf of their homemade sourdough bread. All of it was fantastic and not one complaint!! It's a must go to in Peterborough- don't miss it! Will definitely be going back.
Lovely place with very tasty food! Staff is incredibly friendly! They gave us some complimentary treats for our drive (they were also very yummy)
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The best bread (cranberry/walnut sourdough)..yum!
Great and welcoming bakery/cafe. Met the owner/baker Connor on my first visit - who has been running the business for the last two years. Great and friendly atmosphere and great baking. Bought breads, cookie, donuts, cinnamon buns, and chocolate croissant for me and the family and everyone loved it. Looking forward to trying out the lunch menu on my next visit. Everything is baked fresh from local scratch ingredients. Connor told me the only thing they don’t make in house is the mustard! If you live in Peterborough or are vacationing/traveling through you have to make a stop in. Also conveniently located 1 block away from the Holiday Inn - with free parking right beside it.
Clean, nice seating and great food. Had the house made ham sandwich on light rye and tabouli salad, both were on point. $5 Mill St. Organic bottles were a nice surprise as well.
Would travel back to Peterborough just to visit this bakery. The staff was super friendly and gave us directions to some local hiking trails. We bought a croissant, pork bun, the jumbo English muffin and bread pudding. Everything was delicious! The English muffin is amazing to dip in olive oil or with butter and the bread pudding blew us away with the strawberry sauce. Looking forward to our next visit!
We recently visited for brunch and both the food and service were great. We ordered Eggs benny & Heuvos Rancheros and were not disappointed. Recently we also tried the cinnamon buns, scones, and cinnamon raisin bread - all were fresh made and delicious! Highly recommend for brunch or for a sweet treat! For me the best thing about this bakery is their almond croissants. The bread is so-so at best. And the restaurant dishes are generally good, but expensive. But those croissants...almost an art form.
Unique takes on classic brunch options, clearly homemade, with nice portion sizes. Everything was delicious. My only suggestion would be to have some lunch items on the brunch menu, for those who are not fans of breakfast food. Even a salad option and a sandwich option would be great.
Just tried the fried chicken sammie from here for the first time today, it was probably the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had in my life. The ingredients were so fresh, the chicken was so crispy and the bun was very soft. Loved the pairing of the ingredients inside the sandwich, they went perfectly together. The entire thing was so flavourful. It was very enjoyable. Definitely will be back to have another fried chicken sammie soon! (Have also tried the coffee, cinnamon buns and donuts all which were delicious as well). The electric city bread company does not disappoint!
Literally the best breakfast in the city! Hands down. Great service everyday. We enjoyed it so much we got them to hold our xmas party. They created some of the best dishes we have ever had. It was a fantastic time.
The cinnamon buns are terrific (you can get one warmed up for brunch), as are the breads. Food is generally great for brunch, and it's usually busy. Friendly staff when I've gone.
Amazing food! I love the selection. It's constantly changing. It's such a great little spot!
Best breakfast place I’ve ever been to. The eggs benedict was out of this world! Highly recommend coming here.
Excellent food! Nice atmosphere with friendly Staff! Vegetarian Friendly! Their Baked goods are fantastic. Definitely recommend.
I was a big fan and loyal customer of this place when I lived in Peterborough. Since I have moved to Toronto I have become aware that like most of Peterborough they don't care about the customer experience. I tried to make a reservation and was told I should just show up. Driving from Toronto to take out my mother for special occasion? You just lost my business by upholding the Peterborough motto "try to make no effort." Once a back water always a back water.
Just moved to Peterborough! Had no stove, took the wife and went for breakfast... wife asked me to pick....... so I did........! Coffee, salmon, sour dough, house smoked bacon! And house cured "Peameal Bacon"........ evetuing done in house.........!???? Be hard to top .... big thumbs up to the chefs! Very impressive!!! Thank you.........
Wonderful meal with the family, love their bottomless coffee. Smoked salmon eggs benny is my go to. Kids shared the ginger pancakes and LOVED it. Great spot but small and busy, so conSider making a reservation!
Amazing place, great sandwiches. Had the salmon on a bagel, highly recommend! Also there breads, bagels and English muffins are amazing. Great staff and always friendly atmosphere.
Delicious food, great service, comfortable seating.
Electric City Bread Company is truly unique, casual with panache, featuring a menu of palatte pleasing dishes. The bakery is one of the best around. I love the nut, fruit and olive batard.
Fantastic. Excellent breakfast. Amazing bread, wonderful staff. Exactly what I was looking for in a local establishment. Highly recommend.
Went there for brunch. It was so good and the staff was super nice with us. We even got free pastries because of(/thanks to?) the snow storm. ????????
Great service from the chef and staff. The menu is small, but crafted well - and the Fried Chicken sandwich did not disappoint. My partner had the gravlax on a bagel and the pieces were very thick. Really great lunch.
Literally my favourite place in town. I went here every Sunday before the pandemic and I miss it so much! The staff are awesome and friendly and the food is amazing.
We didn’t get to experience the restaurant as we discovered this wonderful place during the COVID. But as a bakery, it really impressed us! We tried their English muffins, pork bun, bread pudding and a croissant. Everything tasted delicious and super fresh. You can feel high quality ingredients. The next day as we came home to Toronto and realized that we finished our English muffins too fast, we wanted to go back despite the long ride! Definitely coming back to that place when visiting Peterborough next time!
Electric City Bread Company has a very bright and inviting dining area. It has a laid back ambience that is perfect for breakfast and lunch. The service was phenomenal and the food selection was small, but all the options were exceptional. I really enjoyed their squash soup that wasn't cream based! If you're in Peterborough, be sure to check out this gem. Also, their pastries are top notch. The chocolate croissant I tried was very easily the best croissant I have had in my life. My girlfriend tried the almond croissant, and she even noted that it was better than the croissant in Paris!
Everything is just so good! Especially the fried chicken sandwich.
They have different types of bread and they're all really good! My favourite is the beer bread. Just be wary that they only make certain breads on certain days and that sometimes you need to move quickly or they won't have any left. (You can also call in advance and have them put it aside).
This place is excellent with friendly service. The pizza with sausage and pesto sauce is one of the best I ever had. The butter tart is unique with croissant bottom. It’s not bad but I prefer the regular butter tart better. I will come back here again whenever I visit Peterborough.
Last year I became obsessed with trying to bake sourdough bread. I was using Jo Anne's organic bread flour and my loaves were resembling hockey pucks both in appearance and in texture. After 9 months of this I was becoming very discouraged. That's when a friend of mine (also an avid amateur baker) suggested I go talk to the pros at Electric City Bread Company. It turns out that if you want professional results you need the best ingredients. Julia at Electric City Bread Company was gracious enough to help me acquire the same flour they use in their baking. This is crazy because it goes directly against their interests. Why give away a secret as crucial as your main ingredient? I'll tell you why. It's clear to me after having being a patron of ECBC for several years now that their training revolves around the customer. All of their staff are extraordinarily dedicated to making sure I leave happy. They do anything it takes, even when it's counter-intuitive to their business model. Last time I was in there the baker came out and spoke to me directly. He was clearly interested in what I was doing and how my results were coming along. This has been my experience with every one of their employees. I always leave a little bit happier than I had been stepping through the door!
Amazing food! Well arranged on the plates to craft a wonderful presentation to match the quality of the food. A must try!
One of the best fried chicken sandwiches I’ve had! Pricey, but perfect crispness, juiciness and flavour. The frittata is also super tasty.
I could tell you this place has the best baked goods around, or that their English muffins are the best I’ve ever tasted but I won’t, because when I bike down on Saturdays they will have been sold out. I’m sorry but I’m selfish
Always amazing food for brunch! I love their homefries, they go with everything! The highlight of any meal is their bread (of course) and I love taking some home to enjoy throughout the week!
Mmm, one of my two favourite spots to get croissants in Peterborough. Very friendly staff!
By far one of my favourite brunch & lunch spots in Peterborough. The food is ALWAYS amazing no matter what you order (Thanks Andrew!) Their cocktail and beer list is great & I love that they offer mimosas which are hard to find in this town. Mimosas & brunch are always a good idea! The service is great, the homemade bagels, breads & treats are incredible (I highly recommend the cinnamon donut) There's no reason why you shouldn't go here!
Stopped here on the way back from cottage country. This place is absolutely top notch. Had a fantastic pizza and sandwiches. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Great selection of fresh well prepared food and bread. Well considered and implemented covid measures. More than anything else though the very friendly and warm service from all of the staff. Felt very comfortable here and wish them every success in the future.
When in Petey! Definitely doing something right, foods wicked! I'm not complaining but I did find it bizarre that my eggs benny came on only one instead of two halves of an english muffin. Other than that minor detail, I couldn't care less lol. Just an awesome dining experience and so fortunate to have stumbled upon this great restaurant. 5 stars!
Very disappointed. Staff was extremely rude (including the manager). The food was mediocre also the service was terrible and I regretted spending my money at this establishment. They claim their food is local but is actually purchased in bulk from abroad. I love eating local organic food and I was so disappointed that this spot was dishonest and falsely claimed they were a local, healthy spot to eat.
An absolutely awesome breakfast sandwich can be found at this spot. The soup of the day, a coconut curry & squash soup, was stellar. The salmon paté - the daily charcuterie - was outstanding as well. For a very reasonable price, the food here is outstanding.
Thoroughly disappointed with our experience here despite rave reviews from my BIL. Went in TWICE within 20 minutes of opening and they had sold out of most of their baked goods. The employees at the counter and serving were curt and seemed almost irritated that I was asking questions. I had two toddlers with me, and needed a meal to go, so I ordered a soup, which ended up being tiny and pretty watery.
I had the delicious smoked salmon with poached eggs on potato latkes, it was a great combination of flavours!! I will definitely be back!
Came for the bread, stayed for the food. I was not disappointed! Small menu but I wanted everything that was on it. Friendly staff and great food. Almost everything is made in house and it’s made well! The Reuben sandwich is a must. Nice selection of Ontario Craft beers.
Had lunch here with some friends. The Ruben sandwich was absolutely amazing. We bought a loaf of light rye bread to take home. It was incredibly delicious as well. We will definitely be going back for lunch and to pick up another loaf of bread. Highly recommend stopping in for a bite to eat.
Best coffee in town (Maybe any town) Just the kindest, loveliest, hardest working staff in the world. The food is incredible, I’ve never had a bad experience. Thank you so much ❤️
Unwelcoming signage on door, and they charged $9.32 for 3 plain croissants... yikes. My Mom's wasn't even cooked all the way through, she couldn't eat it all.
Amazing baked goods, and great lunch menu as well! Not always the quickest, but the quality of food makes up for it. Great coffee, but also great beer, wine, and cocktails too. Staff are really friendly. Pick up croissants, doughnuts, or bread on your way out!
It's soooo good. Hands down the best breakfast I've ever had. And, the baked goods are delicious. The only thing that could help is better utensils including steak knives lol.
Love this place for quality food, great staff, and a really good selection of beers. One of the few places in Ptbo you can get a cask Ale. Prefer the "bar side", you can't really go wrong with this place. Will add a better pic of the super cozy fireplace next time I'm there... it's a great spot to relax and warm your spirits.
Excellent breakfast with real homemade English muffins! The treats we took home were also devine. We did have to wait for our meal but the customers all came at once. A very cute shop. The staff were very pleasant and followed Covid protocols. We will definately go back when we are in Peterborough.
We had a very bad experience at this restaurant: 3 of us were refused to sit at a table by the wall (the place was empty - it was just 9 AM). No explanations, no apologies, just "No". We sat sheepishly at the center table, looked at each other, and agreed to leave. So.... I wrote the restaurant a short email to express my disappointment, in a polite manner. In the mean time, one of my best friends said that the manager there is often the server.... And that she is very rude! Guess what - my email was never answered! LOL! Will NOT go back FOR SURE!
This gem has been a mainstay for many years. A menu that changes every couple of months doesn’t disappoint. Thanks for providing such great food and service.
Great food and service. Portions were great and totally worth the price. Would recommend their salmon dishes, as well as the Gravalax. Took me by surprise! Easily one of my favourite brunch places in Peterborough now!
Wow! Growing up in Toronto I never thought I would find a gem like this in Peterborough. The food, service, and atmosphere were all perfect. Homemade goodies hit the spot and I am so thrilled they offer catering services. I would recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a great brunch spot with your friends. Can't wait to go back!
The best donuts in town with amazing service.
WOW amazing what fresh ingredients taste like! Food is fantastic and staff are so nice! Been here twice now and will definitely be back many many times!
Both choices were excellent (amazing bread!) and the service was prompt and friendly. The server was helpful to me in selecting a low lactose meal, and the chef came over at one point to thank us for our business. The dining area is small but well ventilated, and distancing and sanitizing were in place, so it felt safe. thanks
Amazing food! So well done - atmosphere very cozy and intimate. Staff are wonderful. Small touches make it special. Chef brought us some freshly made biscotti while were finishing lunch - on the house! You can tell they truly care about their dishes and their restaurant. A must try.
Peterborough has come a long ways as far as restaurant goes I've tried them all electric City bread company is in my top three very very good food excellent service I only wish that they would serve dinner once or twice a week thank you for the wonderful service
