REVIEWS OF Sansotei Ramen IN Ottawa

David Joel Montenegro Sanchez

Small establishment. Delicious food. Great service.

Chris Jenkins

Fast and friendly service, really good ramen. Highly recommend the thick noodles but it's your choice.

Shurraj Rao

This is the best Ramen spot in town. There's sometimes a line up outside this place. The presentation is really nice as you can see in the pics. I always go there late at night with friends.

Clark Yin

Meal was okay, nothing too exceptional. Very expensive for a broth with noodles! Margins must be so high.

shiba inu

The ramen was definitely great, but the place is very small and the waiting line can be very frustrating (30+ min for me). The menu is also small, but I think all the items might be pretty good on their own.

Corine F

Great experience at Sansotei Ramen. Service was super fast on a Saturday at lunch. And staff was really nice! The place itself has a nice interior design. Food: Gyozas were so yummy! I had the tonkotsu+. It was good but I will try something more popular next time. My boyfriend had miso black, it was good!

Jacqueline Vilela

Absolutely amazing ramen, not too salty like some places. I’ve tried everything on the menu now and the spicy tan tan is definitely my fav. The service is always great and the waitresses are always super friendly. Expect a little wait time though because there is always a line out the door.

Great bowl off ramen, good hot broth, thick noodles, awesome seasoning

I absolutely loved this tiny ramen restaurant located in Ottawa downtown. Although the restaurant might be busy at times, the service is fast and helpful. The food was truly delicious, perfectly cooked! I will definitely recommend this restaurant to all my friends visiting Ottawa

Ollie Serre

Best ramen I've ever had. Waited in the rain and have zero regrets! Also, the servers are super sweet and friendly!

Jessica

Worth every minute of the wait. Top notch menu and service. Looks like a lot of people do take-out. Might be a better option if you don't want to stand on Bank St. for 30 minutes. The seating inside is also very compact and not private.

Nadiya Safonova

By far the only decent ramen place I've tried in Ottawa. Service is very slow for what a ramen store should be. Food is alright, but this is probably the better one among the rest in Ottawa.

Ayden Wright

Popular spot, quick and friendly service. Great spot for flavourful ramen!

This is one of my favourite places to go for lunch in Ottawa. Good service and great, great food. I prefer this to all the other Ramen I have tried. Only caveat, you may have to wait in line - but it's worth it!

Lucky Kard

Best ramen in town. The sushi is also great. Is very busy, always have to wait for around an hour. Parking is extreme stressful in downtown.

Yim Chiu

Authentic food with great service and a modern Japanese atmosphere. I would highly recommend the tonkatsu black ramen!

Jaclyn Margaret

Delicious ramen and fast friendly service. Expect a small wait to get in, but it's worth it!

Dom A

No wonder there was always such a huge line-up (before Covid) - you really can't beat this ramen (in North America that is)!

Freddy Baril

Yum! Very flavorful and rich broth with excellent ramen. Reasonably priced. The chicken wings were good and the spice is very interesting. The heat is felt on the lips but not inside the mouth. Very happy with their new location where I don't have to go downtown.

Simon Di

Simply one of the best ramens I have ever had. Crazy popular place for lunch downtown. Recommend arriving for an early lunch right after they open @ 1100 to get a no-wait table.

Easily the best Ramen in Ottawa. Miso Black is a favorite, rich broth, perfectly creamy eggs and soft pork belly. Soup is even garnished with orchids. Sides like the fried chicken make a great meal all on its own. Prices are very reasonable and the portions very generous. Note that weekday lunches are always busy so be prepared to wait. Dinners are much the same though the service is so speedy that even during the busiest hours your wait times won't be too long.

Larry Taylor

Really good ramen an gyoza. The Tonkotsu Ramen was just like the ones I've had in Japan.

Tom Ying

Hands down the BEST ramen place in Ottawa! Worth the wait.

Katherine Porter

Great experience, delicious food, relatively quick service, attentive staff. I look forward to going back

Ro Durocher

Phenomenal ramen. Arguably the best in Ottawa. Definitely the best I've had in a long time. Great presentation and attention to detail. The portion size was perfect. There was a small line outside the door when we arrived, but service was quick and we only waited 10-15min.

Jiesi Ren

Awesome Ramen.... Good quantity.... it's tough to finish one... Fast service... Always there will be a lineup... wait time will be around 15 to 20 mins... it's worth waiting.

James Purchase

Hurts to have to write this review. I've been going here since they opened and it's been one of my favorite foods in the world. I was going about 2-3 times a week at one point or another. All the old reviews you'd see about how incredible they were are not exaggerated. Unfortunately the quality has dipped immensely in the last year. I'm not sure what they changed or why, but it's incredibly sad to see one of the best spots in ottawa become so average. It's still probably the best ramen in town (Ottawa's ramen game is a joke), but don't go in expecting to be blown away like it used to be. Please bring back the old, better ramen.

tonkotsu ramen was REALLY good and the service too, everyone was super welcomming! I just can't give the 5 stars because of the rice that I really found tasteless.

Jean-François Moss

This place has some of the best ramen I've had for a long time! The presentation is lovely and the taste is even better! Staff are nice and work hard to make sure you're comfortable! I got the miso black with thick noodles and it was perfect!

Jennica Fudge

Always a pleasure to eat at sansotei ramen. I enjoy it when I'm in Toronto and I enjoy it when I'm in Ottawa. The flavours of the broths are always great and my favorite is the Tan Tan Ramen! Highly recommend it:)

Flo M.C. Nguyen

Yummy! The only way I will ever do ramen. There is so much flavour in this meal, that you can’t stop eating! Sit down to meal served was 15 minutes. They prepare every order freshly, no batches. My meal was still steaming when I was done. I had the spicy tan tan and plan on making this my go-to.

Beau Schell

Sometimes there's a line to get in, but once you're inside, the service is really quick. And the food is amazing. Very flavourful

Khiem Truong

The lineup for this place often begins long before it opens for the day, which should be a testament to its quality. Really great ramen and a variety of options, and I recommend spending the $2 for extra pork belly, because it’s just about the best you’ll find in the city. I'd come back for: Tonkotsu Black with extra pork belly, the Zangi (deep-fried chicken) is a delicious shareable, and the Sakura Crepe Cake is one of my new favourite desserts.

Owen Miller

Went after work on Tuesday, there was a bit of a wait but not out the door. I tried the Tonkotsu Black with thick noodles and it was so good. The portion was filling, the sauce was not too salty, the egg and pork was perfect. Would definitely go back for this one and maybe try the Sakura Mille Crepe cake :)

marty prouse

Wonderful and excellently priced. The wait is sometimes daunting but once seated all is smooth and delicious. But the tables are really sticky even after you ask them to clean it again. Gross. Yuk. Better be hungry

ashjade

You can't compare this soup to real ramen in Japan but it isn't bad. There was not enough pork in the soup.

Nabil Naccache

Many pleasant sensations come around but only one word has surfaced: exquisite. The variety of flavors in the "Miso Black"(picture) is out of this world. Don't forget to ask about the "slow cooked spicy wings". Who cares that we have a blizzard outside and we have to wait one hour in the freezing wind? Worth it!

Tiffiney Gurney

As usual, Sansotei’s ramen is quite good but not excellent. Always fail at making soft boiled eggs. The line can get quite long during dinner and lunch rush.

Sri Julio

Omg. Definitely go here. Delicious 10/10 they even had a veggie noodle bowl and it was just wow. Worth the wait in line

Harsimran Singh

Superb ramen! Like being in Japan again! There were already 4 ramen types sold out at 7pm. We tried a) the MAZEMEN ramen, a veggie version that was oily and smoky and b) the TONKOTSU plus. Arrive early and enjoy.

This place is great and there is always a line up out the door every time I go. I always get the spicy tan tan and it always amazing. Just the right amount of spice and a very satisfying broth. You should definitely go here. I also think this place is a great value for money too.

Good location, easy to find while taking a tour around Ottawa. High quality of service, which is a common thing when you visit Japanese res. Everything was perfect!

Dee Whiteford

One of my favourite places for take out in the city. The service is super quick with the meals always ready within 10 minutes of having called them. Love the Tonkotsu Black with thick noodles!

Shamit Tushakiran

Covid compliant , you have to leave your name , cell and postal code. Tasty bowl of exquisite ramen.

Jennifer Tang

Such a great place. Note, it is busy so get there early as you will likely have to wait because so many people want to hit this place up at lunch. The soup and ramen are outstanding, price is on point, and it has great customer service!

Fantastic ramen and fantastic service. This is the best ramen we've had outside of Tokyo. Staff polite and quick. Highly recommended!

Mitch Kirady

A simple, honest, and tasteful bowl of ramen. They now offer take out order via phone and delivery with ubereats. I recommend to separate soup and noodle so that you can build fresh ramen at home. It's better quality in that way.

Alexander Kjerulf

Very fast for takeout and super high quality for a reasonable price. Very rich broth so it is filling.

Thai Tran

The ramen is absolutely to die for. I love it. The long line typically occur during peak (lunch) hours, so if you go just a bit earlier, you'll avoid the line that's just waiting to show up. Highly recommend the miso black.

Josh dolan

This restaurant is very cozy — the decor is nice and the waitresses were friendly enough. I ordered the Miso Black ramen along with a Sapporo. The food tasted good, although the prices were a bit too high in my opinion, considering the portion size. All in all, it's a pretty good ramen restaurant located in an area that is accessible by public transit.

Spencer Cox

Excellent ramen noodles! Great service.

Robert Courteau

Nice and decent ramen restaurant. However, their soup is a little bit salty than it supposed to be. I wish they had a garlic squeezer on each table so I can add garlic as I want.

Veronic Godbout

Their place is small which is a standard size for japanese ramen places. They have a big round table for a big group that would sit about 6-7 people and about 16 tables. The restaurant has a modern ambiance. Their prices are very good for the portion of the food. I ordered tonkatsublack and its a good choice with the garlic oil. The taste is an authentic Japanese ramen. They have a pretty attentive staff. I would definitely recommend trying this out. I came in during lunch time and its pretty busy but the wait wasn't long.

One of my FAVORITE ramen places in Ottawa! My go-to soups is their Tonkotsu ramen. It is pork broth based. The broth was super creamy and savoury, and very comforting. So happy to find more good ramen options in the city.

Armanto S

The restaurant is very small, so we had to wait almost half an hour to get in. The line was outside, so we were lucky the weather was good! Once seated we had to order quickly, and I didn't have very long to look at the menu. For someone who isn't used to exotic food, this was entirely new to me! While I've had scallops before, I've never had WHOLE scallops and it was an experience! The ramen and the gyoza was delicious. Because the place was so busy, it was quite loud and difficult to hear each other. Perhaps it was because I didn't have long to see the menu, but I didn't see a vegetarian option for ramen, which would have been nice for those who are less adventurous! Otherwise, it was great!

tom a

Worth the wait although remind them to add the green onions to the pot stickers. Got the black and regular ramen here. I think place is owned by koreans though. Still pretty good and the feel is good. The staff was nice.

Kathrina Nhan

Such reasonable prices for such incredible food. Absolutely worth waiting in the line (moved quickly!) Highly recommend the Tonkotsu.

Lori Golden

Thank god they opened some locations in Ottawa. This was my favorite Ramen ever. Best Ramen I had in Toronto, best Ramen I had ever. Great quick service, VERY delicious, and VERY reasonably priced. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG. Its next level Ramen!!! Try the Tonkotsu Black!!!!

Hubert

Fantastic food though the pork wasn't tender, it was however quite tasty. The broth was amazing!

Emma Thomson

The place is small but when inside you don't feel it. From you will feel it because of the waiting time but only a matters of couple of minutes! The menu doesn't have a lot of items, make it easier to decided what you want to eat????. Table dispositions are very close each other but feel ok once you've been able seat yourself. The waiter's are very nice and fast. Once you have your dish it taste pretty good with a lot of flavor! 2 things that a want to bring attention on is first, the bathroom, they are big enough but was a little bit dirty by the time we was there...I guess depending how busy the restaurent is. The second thing is about a little piece in the back easily accessible by any customer in the restaurant where I find couple cardboard boxes and one of them was sitting on the floor, open and full of raw meat (the they served you in your soup)!! Check my last picture.

Raviraj Mahida

Very delicious Japanese ramen and appetizers found here. I love the thick noodles, perfect bite and texture and great comfort food for winter. Friendly efficient waitresses make it a fun atmosphere. Domo aregato gazimas ????????????

Justin Ong

Delicious ramen and lovely service! We found this place through google maps and trusted the previous customers, and we did right. The place is small,we waited for a few minutes to sit, but the girls who work there are courteous and fast, and the food really tasty.Good price for money.

Andrew Thompson

Though it's a chain, best ramen place in Ottawa which is what the 5 stars is for. There aren't that many options otherwise. Sansotei gets the job done when you want that opaque broth that hits deep. The pork belly can be hit or miss at times with the tenderness but overall, you won't get that much better in this town! And the prices are reasonable. The appetizers are pretty good actually - gyoza can sometimes be overcooked but the fried chicken seems to be consistently on point. They introduced their own beer Tokyo Gold recently which is pretty damn good (Far Yeast brewing company - thumbs up to the pun!). It's also 5 dollars. So get it.

Liz G-Lee

The black tonkotsu was amazing!! The gyoza too. Our waitress was really nice and helpful. Can't wait to go again

Alexandre H.

I had a good experience,it was busy, lunch time, few dishes were out of stock, and not so much options for vegetarians...I wished they had vegetarians broth...good service.

Cam

First time i visited japnese restaurant...food was fresh and so tasty ...staff was so good and friendly ..precautions were also taken during Covid... I recommend this restaurant if you want to try japenese food in ottawa

Shaquille Oatmeal

Worth the hype. I probably wouldn't wait in -20°C for 30 minutes for one of these fine bowls, but a short wait is worthwhile. A delicious no nonsense menu that's very reasonably priced. Looking forward to my next visit

pocketjawa (pocketjawa)

The best ramen I’ve ever had. There was a line but it moved quickly and was worth the wait. The Spicy Tantan and Tonkotsu ramen were both really good and the portions were huge. Even my boyfriend who doesn’t like ramen enjoyed his meal.

Gilles L

Pretty good ramen, some of the best presentation I have ever seen on a bowl of ramen! The noodles were a little on the chewy side, but the pork and broth were done very well. Pleasant and attendant staff. Small menu which I like. Would recommend!

El

Good pork garlic broth without being too salty. Noodles were nothing special. Pork was well flame seared and had a nice crunch to the melt in your mouth texture also. The tomato seafood broth was the winner for me. But the prawn in the noodle was less desired type. It was frozen not fresh so the meat was kinda mushy and opposite of fresh. Overall it's good but I won't be craving to come back unless I'm in the area.

Terry

Very good Ramen ! Really liked the soup, the noodles...service was great as well.

From Japan:) Tasty and high quality. It is not so big restaurant, and there are not so many seats that it is usually necessary to wait. But worth it. However, what is only poor service was to serve zangi after serving ramen, although it is usually served as appetizer with beers in Japan.

Saeed Torbati

The staff were quick, competent and helpful. The atmosphere was cozy and trendy. The food was delicious, meals were well presented and fast. Overall excellent service. Would highly recommend this place as a must go in Ottawa.

Patrick McNeill

Best ramen! I discover this place after my collegues recommend it to me while I was on a layover. I would go on a day trip to Ottawa just for that restaurant. Staff is nice!

Eldiflor F

Amazing food! Service is quick and friendly, which is a relief for the people waiting in line! Very busy little spot, well worth the wait! Ordered the spicy tantan, with a side of gyoza. Everything was delicious!

Judith Dyck

I waited to write a review until I ate at the restaurant at least a couple of times because my first experience was alright. First experience: I kept hearing about how amazing the ramen is here, but coming from a foodie city, I felt a bit let down. There's always a line up outside the door and you can expect to wait 30 min to an hr until you finally get seated. Following experiences: I started learning when to go to the restaurant - best time is obviously after lunch (around 1:30-2) because there's no line! I started ordering the basic Shoyu ramen to really get a sense of the rich flavours - not covered with fancy ingredients that was in my first experience. Started liking the spot. Although I still miss the ramen in my old city, for Ottawa, it is a really good ramen joint.

Easily the best ramen place I've been too. The broth was rich and flavorful, the pork belly was juicy and tender and the service was quick and kind. It was worth the 20 minute wait in the freezing cold weather. I would happily come back here again.

Patrick O'Donovan

There's almost always a wait to eat here so if you don't have time to possibly wait outside in the line up, it might not be ideal for a "quick bite". The restaurant is small - can feel quite crowded/claustrophic, located in downtown Ottawa; which isn't always the most convenient for parking. The staff were friendly, quick, and efficient. Our food came out at a fair amount of time for how busy they were during lunch hours, serving size was fair for the price, and overall our meal was pretty good. It was definitely nice to try a ramen noodle restaurant here in Ottawa, but for me, the experience wasn't so amazing that I'd list it as one of my "top 5 must try" places during your stay/visit.

Chris from Loogart

My absolutely favourite place for ramen in Ottawa. The black miso is my go to ramen order, with extra noodles. I regret getting the extra noodles every time but it’s so good that I can’t help myself. Very take-away friendly.

Kitiya Khamyaem

It was nice and delicious tonkotsu ramen. The broth was packed with flavours, thick cut chashu yummmm. We didn’t make any reservations but we were seated with 10-15 mins. Staffs are very friendly and the service was quick.

Melissa Costello

Its been over several years that I walk past this place wondering why people choose to line up in the cold to experience this restaurant. Luckily, we arrived on a Saturday were there was only one person waiting out the door. Being a party of two, we were able to skip the line and get seated much quicker than the larger parties ahead of us. Group tables are limited. I had the shoyu ramen with a side of fried chicken and while the service was superb and the food tasted great - its nothing to freeze your future children for! For the Ottawa scene this place is a little gem just don't wait expecting a miracle ????

Scott Jensen

Best Ramen in Ottawa. There almost always a line but it moves fast as the tables are serviced quickly. Staff is also quite polite. They also provide a bit more meat and an extra half egg compared to most Ramen places. This isn't the best Ramen place if you know someone that is a vegetarian though.

This place was very good! I had the bamboo and green onion ramen with the recommended thick noodles. Definitely want to go back and try the other ramen options available. I also had the fried chicken which was amazing. My friend had the dumplings (like pot stickers) on the side of her soup and they were ok, we found them not as flavorful as the other items. Overall great service and delicious food.

Vivian Tsai

Best ramen in Ottawa. There's always a lineup out the door, but it moves fast. My partner and I have gone about 20 times, special orders don't usually come out right, but the staff are accommodating and will fix it if necessary. Cleanliness leaves something to be desired. Prices are reasonable.

I loved Sansotei when I visited Toronto and Vancouver, so I was hoping I would find the same quality here in Ottawa. This place did not disappoint! We ordered the Tonkatsu and Black Tonkatsu Ramen, as well as the fried chicken --and all our dishes were amazing! The service was also quick and polite. I would highly recommend a visit!

Txomin Hermosilla

We’ve been going here for years. The quality and service is the exact same every time. Amazing. The level of consistency with which they operate is impressive. Spicy Tan Tan all the way!!!!

Gordon Baird

Absolutely amazing food, everything on the menu is so good I always have a hard time deciding what to get. Service was a little slow and inattentive but with such a popular and busy place that can more or less be expected and excused. Overall great experience and you get a great bang for your buck here with both the quantity and quality of food you get.

Satch Lam

Love the food here.. I've tried most of their soups.. the spicy tankatsu and the miso black are my favorite.. usually has a long line outside specially close to lunch or dinner.. go for a late lunch if you want to skip the line..

Ghen Quiban

The food is absolutely amazing and I will definitely be returning, could easily be my new favourite restaurant!! My only issue was the service, our server didn't check in on us at all the entire time we ate. Which was fine, they were busy. But we were thirsty and had nothing to drink. Then we waited 10-15 minutes with our dirty plates, looking around hoping our server would see we obviously needed something (we wanted to order dessert). Finally someone else checked on us. We almost missed getting dessert as there was only one piece left in the store. At this point it was not busy, our waitress checked on all other tables but us and cleared many tables for her and other servers, however there was no one needing a table. As a server myself at a busy restaurant, I was disappointed. I'll return for the food, but I hope I get better service. I recommend bringing your own water

Casey Ye

Most delicious authentic ramen, hearty. reasonably priced. おいしい。

Rick Parent

Excellent! One of the best ramen I’ve ever had here in Canada. I was very impressed. I had the Tonkotsu and my partner the Shoyu one. Both delicious! Highly recommend!

Maddy Kaiser

Dumplings are so so, Renan is great , deep fried chicken also nice , now I understand why always line there, went there at 4 pm, no waiting is great .

Alyson Vu

In my honest opinion, It was good and the broth was tasty, but for the price you can have better. You have to wait in line way too much time (30 minutes at lunch time) and they don’t have the « to go » option... you can’t reserve a table neither. I asked for more veggies and less noodles in my Shoyu Ramen because I’m intolerant to pastas and you cannot change anything... it comes as it comes the waitress answered to me. I asked for an extra shiitake mushrooms too ($) and she didn’t want neither.

Tiasa Mondol

A small authentic ramen noodle restaurant. Very yummy. Good price. Large portion. Clean. Well staffed. Quick service. The only thing is that they had more beverage selection, but not a deterrent. I can't wait to go back.

The restaurant had a line out the door when we got there, but we only waited about 15 minutes for a table. It’s a small little place, but they turn tables quickly. The ramen was very good. Great spot, arguably the best spot, for ramen in Ottawa. Food and service are both high quality. It's small and busy, so it's very lively in there, but that does not take away from the cozy privacy at the table. I'm a regular and recommend you try it too.

Mark Le

Best Ramen in ottawa hands down. The miso black in amazing and full flavoured and has the best cut of pork in it. If you want a lighter flavoured ramen go with the Shoyu Ramen. I Always sub out one of the pork belly for an extra egg cause eggs are amazing but there really awesome at doing substitutions.

Best Ramen in the city hands down. I've been here a dozen or more times now and I have no problems driving 45 minutes to get there. The Tonkotsu and spicy tan-tan are incredible. The staff are very friendly and the service is quick. If you want to go for lunch you'll want to get there early as it fills up very fast and people end up waiting on the street for a seat.

Jessica Parent

It's no Kinton.. but I'll be back. Best to go during non-peak times.

Quarrington Z

I tried their Toronto location in the past. Hands down it must be Ottawa’s finest Ramen. The line is pretty crazy too; we waited about 1hour to get a table. Nevertheless, it’s worth every seconds of it!

John Galt

Love the menu having only a few ramen dishes done perfectly. Gyoza and wakame salad were great as well, but the ramen, absolutely phenomenal.

David Lefort

Nice cozy ramen place for grabbing a quick bite.

Natalie Correa

Accommodated a last minute reservation, incredibly nice and kind staff, amazing food! Literally no criticism about this place!! I can't wait to try to whole menu!

Justin Duhaime

This is the best place in Ottawa for high quality ramen - it's absolutely delicious and I keep coming back. $12 for a HUGE bowl of ramen, and you can add various add-ons super cheap (extra egg, rice, etc.). I can almost never finish the entire bowl. Even when there's a lineup outside, I've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes, since they're pretty quick at cleaning up the tables and getting them ready. Servers are always super nice and helpful! Also, the pork belly in the ramen is to DIE for!

BigManTing 1988

If you love soup, you are in for a treat. They only take walk-ins, so get there early and be ready to wait, but it is totally worth it. Kids-friendly. And needless to say the food is incredible. They also have takeout so that will cut down on waiting if you don't want to dine there.

Cool ramen restaurant with friendly servers and a concise menu that delivers. Note that 6-7pm is peak time here so be prepared to wait in a line out the door. The ramen was rich and very filling. If you havent had bamboo shoots before, be warned, they taste the way rotting vegetables smell. Don't order ramen with them unless you know you like it (I learned this the hard way). Service was quick even at their busiest hour, definitely stop by if you can!

dylan chiu

Solid bowl or Ramen. Coming from Vancouver I was already craving Asian food after day 2 in Ottawa. While it definitely curbed the craving, I wouldn’t line up again for it.

Kay M

Perfect ramen. Great flavour, and every ingredient was lovely. Nice servers and quick service also. Will definitely come back.

Alexandra Bisson

Very, very good. The lunch lineup is now about 15 people, but you’re in and out in half an hour. This is wonderful comfort food. The one thing they could do better is start selling their own tonkotsu for takeout or placement in stores, or even on Amazon.

Wingtip Productions

Probably some of the best ramen around, given the small ramen scene here in Ottawa. Their broth can be a bit too salty for some, but overall you'll get a solid bowl every time.

Garfield Fisher

Amazing ramen with reasonable prices! I’d highly recommend starting off with the fried chicken and gyoza. Both were spectacular and quite delicious for appetizers. The ramen was plenty and you had the choice between thick and thin noodles for those who have a preference.

Dannica Franco

Tonkotsu black. Heaven. So creamy filling flavour and every slurping spoon was so yummy. Definitely a must when in Ottawa. Service was fast and friendly. Washroom clean. Family friendly. Best to make reservations as place is very small. I’ll be back.

Mathieu brown

As someone who lived in Japan and loves making homemade ramen, my expectations may have been too high for this place, but the staff was good and price is decent. I think the tomato ramen and spicy ones are the best, I'd recommend them over any other choices, if they would specialize these 2 ramens I would give a 5. Oh, and this place is assuredly the best place in Ottawa for ramen. Expect wait times at lunch and sometimes in the evening.

Nicholas Koutros

The vibe of this restaurant is great, and the servers are really friendly. However I'm not sure if it was cause of the type of ramen I ordered but I didn't end up liking my food all too much. I felt that I was really limited in my options because almost all the soups have pork and I don't eat pork. Perhaps if they added beef options then I could try the other types of ramen and enjoy it more. Lots of people have told me this is one of the best spots for ramen in Ottawa though so if you do eat pork it might be worth a try for you!

Tom H

All kinds of ramen are good - absolute comfort food. Tonkotsu with garlic oil, Miso Black or Shoyu ramen - everything makes sense. They have couple of new dishes including a vegetarian ramen (has egg) made that has eggplant, which tasted pretty good. Egg is just perfect always and chasu (pork) is perfect, nothing extravagant- just comforting. Zangi - deep fried chicken- a very good side dish. Must visit restaurant for a ramen experience. Uber Eats or other delivery apps sometimes have BOGO & other offers.

The best ramen I’ve ever eaten. Large portion, rich broth, lots of meat, properly boiled egg, good noodles. Highly recommend.

Griffin Milicic

I've been to their restaurant several times. Good environment and good service are provided. However, you need to wait to be served. Highly recommend you arrive before 5 pm on weekday so you don't have to wait for too long. I Highly Highly recommend GYUDON. It's beef rice and really delicious.

Puppy Chonkers

the ramen, spicy slow cooked wings and the gudon is my favourite. the food smells fantastic, the best food I've ever had and the service is not long.

Ольга Демидова

One of, if not the best ramen in town. During busy times (lunch and diner) expect to wait a bit before getting a table. But, it will be worth it. Miso Black is a personal favorite.

Alexandra MacAulay Abdelwahab

Sensotei is without a doubt the best Japanese ramen you'll find in Ottawa. The menu is smaller than some places but still affords good suggestions, has vegetarian options, but mostly it tastes amazing! Highly recommend, you won't be sorry you tried

MF Ew

Very nice decor. Somewhere good to socialize although the space is small and there's lineups. Customers waiting in line gives you pressure. Feels like the lineup is only for advertising the restaurant. There were a lot of empty tables. The food was not the best. I have been to other ramen shops, this was a little over-rated. Friends got bad poops the next day and I experienced slight nauseousness.

Anna B.

Fantastic flavors, quick service, and absolutely packed! The dumplings were soooooo good, as was the seaweed salad; I couldn't finish my bowl of ramen. Yes, I probably ordered too much... but it was all delicious. I regret nothing.

Jinsun is the Best

The menu is simple and the staffs are friendly. Most people come here for the tonkatsu black ramen. Most ramen cost less than $12 (before tax and tip)- very reasonable priced! Additional topping (corns, bamboo shoot, shitake and black fungus) just $0.75 each. I will definitely come back for more.

Cindy Xie

Good ramen and perfect size. I ordered Tonkotsu ramen with extra egg and Spicy Tan Tan ramen with extra egg. The broth for the Tonkotsu is perfect and not too salty. The spicy Tan Tan broth a bit lighter compare to the Tonkotsu, but still a good one.

Khả Hân Trần

Definitely the best ramen in Ottawa. I usually get the miso ramen with black garlic oil. My wife likes the tonkotsu (rich pork broth) with black garlic oil, but their whole menu is great, and the staff are very sweet. Even through the pandemic, they run a fast, consistent operation. Glad this place exists!

Karl Azrak

Delicious ramen! We were in Ottawa last week and this establishment was a delightful surprise. The kids really enjoyed their ramens. The broth in the soups was rich and savoury. We ordered the Tonkotsu, Miso Black and Spicy Tantan. I highly recommend to try it out. You won’t be disappointed. The staff was also very friendly as they accommodated the four of us last minute.

Chris Zimny

Reasonably priced and easily the best ramen shop in town! While the noodles, pork, and boiled egg are all really good, what really ties it all together is the rich (but not too rich), savoury broth! If you've never had ramen before, I'd recomend either the Tonkatsu or the Tonkatsu Black (if you like garlic).

I really, really love Sansotei, so this review hurts to write. But as someone who gets their ramen via take out each week, there's been a real decline. In short, there's just no broth. The order I got today had so little broth that I thought they had forgotten it at first. I get that the pandemic has been tough but you wouldn't think an extra cup or two of broth would be that expensive. It's gotten to the point where I'm considering looking for another go to ramen restaurant. I really hope this changes.

Great Ramen, not gonna say the best one bcs I haven’t tried all ramen places in Ottawa. Wonderful broth not to overwhelming but you can taste the richness of it. The more spoon of broth get into your mouth its you gonna taste it getting more and more flavourfull. I tried the shoyu ramen and its good, but tried the black ramen (the one with black harlic in it) its amazing. You can definitely taste the garlic and its really good, i really recomended this one. Just noted choose the right time to go there, if you’re lucky you dont have to wait in the line especially in the cold winter. I got table near the door and its not the best table, its getting chilly each time they opened the door.

Josh Korn

Some of the best ramen I've had anywhere in the world.

David Weng

I’ve been here for a total of 4 times so far and this place never disappoints! Always see a lineup whenever I walk by and for good reasons. The prices are probably the cheapest for delicious ramen in Ottawa, and the taste is so delicious- very similar to ones I had in Japan. My go to is the tonkotsu black and tomato broth, but all of the offered choices are amazing. Highly recommend, just be prepared to come early or wait in line for a loong time

Louai Abboud

Consistent, consistent, consistent. I've come here multiple times to this location as well as the one on Merivale and I honestly am in love. The consistency on service, cleanliness, food taste and quality is perfect. It's hard enough to maintain such efficiency in one location but it seems as they maintain such in their other locations! It's such a comfortable and welcoming environment with a traditional yet modern atmosphere, the food and speed of service is perfect for any time of day as well as any group of people, especially if you have a craving taste of Asian food.

Marie “Akuiko” Roy

I have visited Sansotei in both Ottawa and Montreal over 10 times by now, and the quality is always amazing! We love a consistent ramenya ???? the black garlic and miso ramen are my favorites. The Bank St. (Ottawa) location is nice but it's a bit small - so please call to get a reservation before going to ensure you have a spot.

This was my first time here.. The Ramen was pretty good. I had the tonkotsu black (tonkotsu ramen with garlic oil) and the spicy slow cooker chicken wings.. the chicken wing texture was very unusual, like that of boiled chicken, but the flavor was really interesting. The garlic oil in the tonkotsu black really added a whole other element of flavor. My friend is a regular and has the plain tonkotsu all the time.. he said the tomato is good too. Will try it next time. There was a hair in my glass of water but these things happen.. the service was pretty good. I'll definitely return. Oh yeah, if you are planning to go for lunch, i would plan my movements earrrly. This place fills up from the moment they open and there are lines waiting outside the door watching you eat and eagerly waiting their turn in the freezing cold winter.. it's unbelievable.

Manu Chaurasia

Look at my name. Does it look like someone who’d know few things about ramen? Liked tonkotsu but loved miso! Highly would recommend

Dionysios Gosselin

Food here is great, normally our go-to for Ramen despite the lineups for dinner. Make sure to try every bowl considering they're all distinct in taste and quality.

Karina C.

Best Ramen in the city. At the risk of sounding blasphemous, it's as good if not better than ramen you'd find in Japan. Even during the COVID19 they're able to keep their quality food and service. It needs to be said: if you intend to dine-in you need a reservation. Today I had the Spicy Tan Tan, absolutely delicious.

Robert Hum

Came in here with low expectations, left pleasantly surprised! Their selections are vast, and the bounty is flavorful. The cheese wantons, chicken cutlets, and veggie sushi rolls were all phenomenal. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a nice AYCE experience in South Barrie. I'll definitely be coming back!

Monique Moledo

I stopped by this restaurant for dinner recently. The place had a fairly chill and lively atmosphere and service was good. In terms of food, I tried the Tonkotsu Black with thin noodles. The soup was rich and garlicky, the tonkotsu had a nice barbecued flavour, and the noodles had a nice crunch and soaked up the soup as intended. The value was really good as well considering the quality, quantity, and other places in the area.

Jana Glick

Servers utterly charming. Excellent food at fair prices.

Jenny Medeiros

Best ramen in town. Love this place!

Ora Tsang

Great ramen place that is definitely worth visiting. Seating is limited but that just makes it cozy and the small menu means that the food is consistently good. The noodles were not overcooked and there was a good amount of toppings. The ramen is priced fair but the sides are a bit pricey, but that might be just the downtown tax.

Andrew Blakeley

Very busy location but food is prepped right. Rich soup base with perfectly cooked noodle. Would definitely go back again

Jasmin Couture

Service was super fast, staff were really nice & kind. Food was fresh, it was delicious. I highly recommend.

Dave Park

The ramen was delicious. The egg was fresh and warm. We all had different kinds and we all enjoyed them. There was a line up out the door from when we got there to when we left. I recommend get there around five.

Mathew

We’ve been meaning to check this place out for a while and we popped up very last minute, towards closing time and the staff made us feel extremely welcome and unrushed! The ramen was so good, we ended up getting a third one to go - the “12” is really nice, simple and a fantastic value! Everything from the aesthetic to the cleanliness is top notch! PS: Peppers and oils are available for those that want to spice things up!

Ozoz Sokoh

The ramen was pretty good but colder than I had expected. The napkin proved insufficient. There were plastic utensils and cups. The ceramic teacup was chipped.

Misha Lu

Amazing, must-try noodles! Can't recommend the place enough

D. Iradukunda

Their broth is on another level. So thick, rich and savory. Congratulations to the owners: they have created an authentic Japanese restaurant experience with fantastic service. Definitely worth checking out.

Evan Nelson

Sub-par. Limited ramen options in the city and thereby citizens lack of knowledge regarding good ramen. This Sansotei location has increased their prices compared to my last visit less than two years ago, $14+ ramen should tastes exceptional and they failed to do that. I would suggest, if you are to travel to Vancouver, go to Danbo Ramen. They are the best in Canada and has a lower price.

Andrea Whenham

I am not a fan of the Ramen craze. I haven't had Ramen which made me justify the prices because it was so much more than the packages at the grocery store. Having said that and having given countless establishment chances it is good to finally find a place which is authentic and worthy of a review. This is everything I like in a restaurant. Small, well run and great product. It's about the food here. The menu is small which is a good sign. The place is always busy another good sign. We tried various ramems and appetizers. All great. Loved the spicy option as I am all about the spicy. Seaweed salad was good and the beef and rice was good too. If you don't eat pork avoid Ramen places otherwise this is the one place I would recommend worth visiting.

Stephane Lagrange

Very tasty ramen. Reminded us of Japan. It is a very busy place, with a lineup at the door and many food deliveries happening at the same time. The service is attentive and very prompt. The food is well prepared and full of flavour.

Kristina Simard

Loved the black tonoktsu ramen. Price is very good and service very prompt and friendly.

Justin Lemieux

Overhyped Japanese Ramen place. The broth is very salty meaning it's trying to hide something. The noodle quality is very typical and nothing special. The pork Cha Shu is razor thin and only 3 slices. I have to pay extra for more pork and I wasn't even full. Overall very pricey for the quality I am getting.

Best ramen place in Ottawa (special shoutout to the Spicy Tantan). Friendly service and you get your food quickly. Would encourage any and everyone to go there.

Camila Fernandes

I've been here many times. The ramen is always delicious. Personal favourite is the tomato. Be prepared to wait if you go at lunch on a weekday, but it's worth it.

Andrew Roberts

Oh my god so good. Got tan tan, but tried tonkatsu pork too, and they are both incredible in their own way. Did not find the spicy tan tan to actually be spicy though, guess you could ask for more spice

Claude-François Brassard

Ive been to places with really good Ramen and this place is somewhere over the mid range Ramen bowls ive tasted. Solid, less overwhelming and rich broth flavour, you cant go wrong here as a Ramen lover. So far this is the only place in Ottawa I enjoy in terms of Ramen. I also would recommend the Slow cooked spicy wings, they are very tasty and will leave you feeling at home with its balanced taste

Marc-Andre Leger

Flavourful, fast service once you have a table but always waiting time. Being this popular they should open another location.

Jon “SonicRising” Brown

Great quality, the food brings me right back to Hokkaido. Gyudon and Chicken Zangi are the best items. The ramen is great quality too but beware its very salty so not my choice.

Christine Maurette

Probably the best ramen i have ever had and will be coming back very soon.

Jack Yue Heng Xu

Pretty long wait as I assume it's a very popular place. Very good ramen though. Had the spicy miso one with the black garlic oil. Spice level 1/5, but everything was still delicious. I recommend the thick noodles vs. the thin noodles. One bowl is not sufficient to share, but decent enough if you want to restaurant hop to try many new things. #happyeating

The taste is amazing, the service is quick and if you are in line and wondering if you should wait any longer, the answer is YES. It is worth the wait.

Small cozy Ramen joint with excellent service. Ordered the negi shoes gyoza and Zangi for starters. The gyoza was ok but the chicken was brilliant! The ramens, tonkotsu+ and should were both excellent. The peach sake was a little over priced for the 300ml but good. Overall would definitely come back here.

Braedyn Stockfish

Great food and the Tokyo beer was fantastic. Awesome take out process the food was packed very nicely and quickly. We got the gyoza (amazing) and 2 bowls of ramen.

Cristian M

Best ramen you’ll find in this city, the broth was not too salty and the noodles were nice and chewy. It was as authentic as it gets. Would recommend anyone to come here.

Gabrielle Tayag

This tiny place is a box office hit especially at night. They may be serving a-not-so-much variety of menu but they nail it on their ramen(which is their specialty).

Christine Levesque

Top tier Ramen. The broth is spectacular, the noodles and chaisu are also so good. It will bring you to another plain of contentment and peace

Oliver Pan

Excelent service! All the food is delicious!

Zhihao Eric

Dumpling, chashu and egg are all average. Actually egg is below average. It's almost not seasoned. However the soup is great. It's not overly salty or thick like some other places. It's a perfect match to the thin noodle. You want to get the extra noodle as one order just isn't enough!

Bea Nguyen

Flavours are consistent with Sansotei in Toronto. Tonkotsu and the fried chicken was delicious as always and the slow cooked wings are an absolute must!

Beatriz Baffi

Our favourite Ramen place in Ottawa. The Tonkotsu Black ramen is delicious and we now look forward to it as a comfort food. Takeout is quick and always packaged well!

David Pierre Leibovitz

It's one of the best places to grab ramen in Ottawa. Their dine in experience is super efficient, in and out in 30-45 min. The broth in the black garlic ramen is super rich and addictive and I find the noodle texture to be superb.

EnJoy Life 樂在生活的Mrs.Joy

Expect to wait. Place is on the smaller side, fast friendly service. Have been craving ramen and finally found a place that can satisfy my itch. I ordered the tonkotsu black with thin noodles, pork belly, mushrooms and extra egg and corn. The first spoonful is so amazing. My senses registers the flavors of the thick creamy and nearly white broth. The broth is made from pork bone marrow simmered for many hours. The flavor of the tonkotsu with garlic oil slightly coats the vegetables, egg and pork belly making every bite savory and memorable; this reminds me that it was worth the wait! For under $18 (extras plus tip), you can have a delicious bowl of soup that hugs you for hours after the meal.

Olivier B Ducharme

Good ramen! Food was fantastic. The quality of the broth was amazing. Service was correct. During business hours, it is very busy. There was a line, plan extra time to get it. The restaurant is very small, I believe it would be hard to accommodate people with stroller or mobility chair. They don't take reservations. Overall it was a good experience

Nadia A-L

If you love ramen, you'll love it! Big portions and not too pricey! Just amazing!

Karolina Warzecha

This is the best ramen you can find in the city. It's reasonably priced, satisfying, always ready when you pick it up. The staff is friendly and courteous. This restaurant stands in stark contrast to the overwhelming number of amateur joints found downtown. One of the only annoying things about Sansotei Ramen is they don't have enough seating. If we aren't locked down, there's almost always a lineup to get in. So if you're hungry and it's lunch time, send your intern to get you spot or wait in line. Interns love it when you treat them like paperweights.

Maryam Vahedi

Reasonably priced Ramen in Ottawa. Decent quality food with a nice atmosphere. Service was quick and courteous. Howdy Tonkotsu Black Ramen as well as the Zangi (fried chicken).

Bi L

Really good and flavourful ramen for the price. The place was crowded but the interior was decorative. The staff were well, could be better but wasn’t too bad either.

Jackson Castell

Authentic and traditional environment. Really friendly staff. Their ramen tastes amazing and it's cheap as well. Downside is they do not have many protein options and the menu is pretty small. Pretty crowded during peak hours but it's worth waiting for it.

Adam “Dreamyvision” MacLaren

The service was a bit confusing, but the ramen is absolutely delicious. The prices are very fair as well. The place is small and usually very busy. We almost didn’t get to sit because we didn’t have a reservation. It is one of my favorite places in Ottawa.

Tali Thompson

Waited in line outside on Tuesday night but it was worth it. It was the best ramen I've ever had outside of Japan. We ordered the gyozas, tonkotsu black and tomato ramen. Tomato ramen was our favourite, would love to come back and try the others! The customer service was exceptional, they greeted us just like in Japan and also thanked us in Japanese before we left ????. If you want a true Japanese ramen experience go here!!

Eden S

Great price and great menu! Love all the ramens!

Han Lee

I've been to Sansotei four times in the last year, and sampled most of the broths they have on offer. Each and every time, I've really enjoyed my bowl of ramen. My particular favorite is the black garlic, which offers a flavorful broth that's perfectly fatty. The tonkotsu is nice and creamy, although not my personal favorite, and the shoyu benefits from the miso paste that's added. The noodles have the perfect texture, something which most Ottawa ramen spots fail to do well, and the pork and egg are excellently made. Additionally, the sides are always good. The restaurant is small and perennially has a line outside, but is undoubtedly my favorite ramen both in Ottawa, and as of now, of all the ones I've tried.

Jasmyn Tea

Delicious ramen, broth rich but not oily. Noodles are springy and absorb the flavour of the broth well. Decent portion size too with two generously thick slices of meat.

MyLinh Nguyen

Great food. I love the tomato ramen, it’s savoury and comforting, and the the flavours work well together. The meat portion is very small, but the broth is so good that I don’t really mind paying a bit extra for another two slices of pork belly. Very fast service; our food arrived in only five minutes! Could use a little sound muffling inside; it’s a noisy concrete and glass box of a room. On the bright side, when you can hear each other, you’ll be talking about how great the food is!

Hamid Velji

UPDATE: I'm back... they are still great I added photos Review: Generally... very good. Explains why there is usually a line up. Might be a little too salty for my taste. But this is minor compared to the price, service and quality of the food. Another update:. Still very good and reasonably priced. Added more photos.

Marc Bouchard

Amazing food and equally amazing service. Highly recommend!

John Currah

Ramen was just fine, not that great as expected and I had to wait in the line almost 30 minutes to get it for my lunch. Anyway staffs were nice and reasonable price.

Leah

It has an special ramen and excellent service, making you feel comfortable.

Cory Toews

Fantastic ramen! The staff informed us how salty the different ramen bowls were. They were the best we've had!

Arunee Korzan

Service is always quick and pleasant. Best ramen in Ottawa for sure! Just make sure you’re prepared to wait in line, don’t worry it’s with the wait and the line goes quickly.

Madeleine Thompson

The temp outside was -17C and yet there were people lined up to get in at 8 pm. That's dedication. The ambiance was very cool and the servers were all friendly. The menu is pretty simple - about 6 types of ramen, 6 appetizers and some other little things. The place smells like friend chicken. The slow cooked chicken is more of a Chinese 滷肉 stew type of flavor. The friend chicken was super tender, but the spices not as good as authentic Japanese kara age. The ramen was also tasty but almost too rich to finish. So overall 4 stars for me. Pretty good pretender but not the real deal.

First time to Sansotei and was worth the trip! Food tasted amazing and even though there was a 20 minute wait to get in. Definitely check this place out and see why it's a staple on downtown Ottawa!

You can't get better ramen in Ottawa than at Sansotei. The constant long line outside is a testament to its quality. Try the Spicy Tantan before they run out, otherwise you can't go wrong with the Tonkotsu. Based on the quick turnover and limited space, I don't recommend it for long romantic dates or big groups. Get in, enjoy some phenomenal ramen and get out.

Jia Wei Wang

Good food, fast. But long waiting line up, wait outside for about 10 minutes to get in, and then another few minutes to sit down.

Lea Albrecht

Amazing food and great service. I'll be bringing my out of town guests here for a great meal they won't soon forget. Keep up the great will guys!

Braden Duess

Parking : Not Sure Pricing : Decent ($$) Staff : Friendly Selection : Limited but delicious! Do I enjoy eating at this location: Absolutely! What time to go: before 5pm weekdays for supper (popular location) be prepared to wait outside. It's a hole in the wall with fantastic food, line-ups tend to stretch on the street but people just eat and go within 30 minutes so it's got a quick table turnover. 10/10 would go again!

Michel Cornellier

I've been ordering from Sansotei all year long, because I love their ramen and also to encourage local businesses, however I've noticed that as time goes, the level of broth in the bowls goes down. Yesterday I ordered again and the bowl was literally half empty. When I asked for more broth I was told I had to pay an extra 2$ for it. Really?? I'm very disappointed and I'll be trying new places in the coming months.

Diana Lu

Undeniably the best place in town for ramen noodle soup. Everything was excellent and far better than any other location. A must try you won’t regret it.

josh kim

The broth is thick and rich in flavours making tying the whole dish together. The thick noodles are just the right thickness where it absorbs all the flavours of the broth. The prok belly is thinly sliced and very soft. The mushrooms were marinated and complemented very well with the tomato soup I had. The service is nice and welcoming. Most bowl of ramens are only around 12$ too. The only problem is that there is always a line. It's a small restaurant so not a lot of seats, sometimes you even have to share a table with other guests. The wait time in line is usually around 30-45mins but then you get served rather rapidly. Overall very pleased with this place.

The ramen was good here. The broth was properly seasoned, the pork was cooked well, and the ingredients went well together. The prices were reasonable. Super busy at lunch time on a weekday.

Awesome food. Great staff. We had to wait for around 30 mins to get in. If you're looking for actual ramen, best place to visit.

Sansotei Ramen, even in my hometown Markham, gets line ups but here it takes longer coz the place is small & customers overstay. But worth the wait IMO as I'm a fan. I had Tonkatsu ramen and Karaage. I only drink water when eating ramen to savor the flavor, broth was super smooth and creamy!

Great place for ramen you can enjoy alone, or with friends or relatives. The hosts/waitresses welcome you in Japanese like most ramen restaurants in Canada, especially the ones in Vancouver. Small menu with six ramens, five sides, two desserts, two alcohol drinks from Japan (Sapporo and Japanese Peach). I highly recommend to add Onigiri for the side and Mochi for desserts, so customers can appreciate a typical variety of Japanese cuisine. On the first meal picture, I ordered a Miso Black for $14.50 (the most expensive ramen and very tasty) and a Ganzi (Hokkaido style fried chicken) for a $5 side. The second meal picture, I ordered the delicious and popular Tonkotsu Black for $12.75 and the classic Seaweed Salad for $5. Only two desserts, mango cheesecake and mango sorbet. The third meal picture, I ordered the Spicy Tantan for $12.50 and Spicy Slow Cooked Wings for $6 – people who love spicy food will enjoy both, and I recommend the restaurant to put a humid wipe aside the wings. The fourth meal picture, I ordered Tomato for $12.75, which is a good ramen mixing scallop and pork. The fifth meal picture, I ordered Shoyu for $12 (the cheapest ramen) and Gyudon (bowl of rice with shredded beef onion for $5.50 – Japanese Peach is a great sake drink to share with a friend or partner $30/2=$15. The sixth meal picture, I ordered Tonkotsu for $12.50 and Gyoza on the side for $5. Overall, great experience and service, just plan ahead to eat there, the waiting line can be big because of popularity. If you sit close to the cashier/kitchen area, you’ll be able to listen to great lounge music they cannot put louder for noise convenience purposes.

Louis-Philippe Dmers

I am genuinely baffled at how this place could possibly gather less than 5 stars. If I could rate it a 10 out of 5, I would do it in a heartbeat! My best friend and I are regulars, and we agree that this place is PHENOMENAL!!! The staff is always so friendly and kind. They never judge us despite our complicated orders and are always more than happy to make sure the order is correct. The service is truly impeccable. Not only is the service fantastic, but the food is exquisite! Everything we’ve tried, we’ve ADORED. The tonkotsu black is our personal favourite, and frankly, I could eat it every single day of my life without ever getting tired of it. The pork belly is sublime, the broth is to die for, the noodles are perfectly chewy, I used to be terrified of runny egg yolks and this place taught me that I actually LOVE it! Every single friend I’ve introduced to this place told me I got them hooked! 10/5 would recommend. Wonderful place!

Elsa Chi

Ramen is pretty good here. All of the broths are pork based including the tomato one. Service is usually pretty quick. Would recommend.

This place is awesome!!! Don't let the long lines fool you - it moves fast! The food is amazing as well. My picture is the Tonkotsu Black.

Generally I wait to post reviews until my 3rd or more visits to an eatery. This place has amazing food. I have yet to find better ramen in Ottawa.( the search for better ramen has just begun) we ordered two bowls with extra fixings and then sides afterwards. I will be going back for sure within a week. Its been 3 hours and I am still thinking of that delectable spicy broth. Thin noodles 5/5. Broth 5/5, value 5/5. Arigato minna san. Totemo umai desu. Gyoza was fresh made in house. Karage or fried chicken was very lightly coated and had some delectable seasoning which was complemented well by the lemon provided.

Ming Chiu

Love that place!!! highly recommended but theres always a lineup so make sure to come before or after rush hours! miam

Very small place, very busy, but a great introduction to authentic ramen. As someone who does not gravitate toward "soup" as a dinner option, I was very surprised how much I enjoyed it. If you're on the fence about "ramen", or like me consider the university staple a cost-effective-crime-against-cuisine, then I recommend this place. Friendly staff, great good, good service.

Samuel Prashker

Best ramen I have ever had. I stand in line to get in every time I'm in Ottawa (there is always a line up) and it is worth it. The service is really good. I will definitely go back and I recommend you try it. It is soooooo good.

Jackie

Good Ramen, I should have gotten the thin noodles. I got the Black Miso, if you dont like fat, ask to replace the "spicy kisuna" with regular pork belly or more eggs. The gyoza were great asweel if not a little expensive.

Devon

I came in the early afternoon and there was a bit of a line—but the ramen was well worth the wait! I had the Spicy Tantan which was delicious and had a really wonderful spiciness that surprised me! While it didn’t taste particularly hot, I was sweating and pleased by the end. The soft-boiled egg was also delicious. The restaurant itself is small and busy. I imagine it’s more difficult to get a seat as a group/family, but I liked the environment. Staff were friendly and service was fast (which helped to keep the line moving).

Caitlin S

I’ve had my very first ramen here. It’s amazing! Wish they had more choices like bento box etc. other than ramen.

Y W

Best ramen in ottawa period. The spicy tan tan is unreal! Amazing broth!

Andrew Whitehead

Delicious and fast service. Can't wait to go back. The prices are very affordable and the quality is top notch.

Igor Gontcharov

So good! The miso black is incredible! Highly recommend! The line ups are long but worth it, plus it’s not that long of a wait. The staff is super nice. The wait time for the food is like 5 min so you get your meal really quickly.

Jade Chung

UGH this ramen was so good! Don't be fooled by the mirror, that is NOT another part to the restaurant hahahaha. Enjoy!!!

My go-to ramen place in Ottawa! It’s definitely not the best in the country but it definitely satisfies those soup and ramen cravings when they hit. They also have the best gyozas I’ve had from a ramen shop. And if you like it spicy, ask them for a side of chili oil to put into your gyoza vinegar dipping sauce! As for the ramen, the pork is always tender and perfectly cooked and the broth is tasty. And if you’ve never added a side of butter to your ramen before? Try it - it’s worth the price and you’ll never see ramen broth the same way again.

Amazing food! All three types of ramen we tried were well-flavoured in their own unique way. It was hard to pick one over the other. Fast-service, courteous wait-staff, great decor, cute music. Can't recommend it enough!

Very cozy Bank Street location but be prepared to line up if you go during lunch and dinner hours as the place is very small. Service is brisk and friendly, noodles are tasty and chewy, love the pork belly. It's a small space and it's always busy, but it's worth it. The ramen is the best in the city. We actually go to the location on Merivale...it's closer to home. Even with a wait for a table it's quick service so the turnover is fast.

Decent price with great quality Ramen. Small menu, but great food. Except for the tomato shrimp Ramen, the soup base is incredible, but only one shrimp, and it's anorexic. Not enough seats in downtown location, always huge line up during meal hours. Food quality also seem to sneakily deteriorates in the span of few months.

The service is fantastic and fast. The venue is very clean, well lit and spacious. This is a great place to come to whether it is for a working day lunch or an afternoon / weekend meal. The zangi (Hokkaido style fried chicken) and gyoza (pan fried pork dumplings) are excellent side dishes that will go very well with whatever bowl of ramen you decide to order! When there is a lineup of peeps waiting for this ramen house to open at 10:45AM on a Wednesday.... you just have the intuitive sense that this place is going to be delicious!!!

Best ramen place ever and the staff are so nice. The eggs are my favorite part of the ramen

Out of all restaurants in the tier not-fine-dining, this is truly neat the very best of the bunch. Small menu, long waits during peak times, but it's all done to perfection. They do better ramen than anybody in town. Portions of ramen are great, but I still do double meat because it's only like $4 more. Worth the wait. Worth going late for off-peak eats. Worth it all around.

This place is possibly the best ramen shop in Ottawa. Very delicious food, good portions, and good service. Its a great place to go for a lunch during your break! :-)

Emilie Desbiens

Probably the best ramen in Ottawa. There's generally always a long lineup but they move pretty quick and it doesn't take long to get your food once you're seated.

Victor Lee

Love this chain. Best ramen in Ottawa. I've tried both locations, the food and the service are excellent. Last time I went the 2 slices of BBQ pork were very thin. I hope they are not getting cheap to maximize profit. I hate when that happens.

Sarah Moukahal

Awesome ramen joint in downtown Ottawa. friendly staff and service is always fast and on point! not a ton of variety but what they offer is on an other level in terms of authenticity, quality and flavor!

Amelie Baillargeon

Excellent place! The spicy tantan soup base was really good. Well worth the trip and money. Please come to experiment You wont regret it

Montgomery User

Well worth the wait (always has a line up). Big bowls for a great price with well portioned ingredients. Atmosphere is comfortable and decor is modern. The staff are friendly and quick. Repeat customer

Okay. So you want Ramen... Well, in Ottawa this is the place to be! The food is 100% authentic and smacks of Japanese noodle house in spades! You will not be disappointed. The choices are all based around their amazing broth. Sorry vegetarians they are not veggie friendly. Location is small.. PLAN AHEAD! You will wait.. Be early. The place is ALWAYS packed. They will greet you traditionally. Be adventurous..Greet them back in Japanese. You will get a great big smile! Totally worth it. You will not leave hungry.

Went in here for dinner when in and out under an hour. This place was amazing, top level ramen.

Takunda Mwinjilo

A little too salty (yes I know ramen is usually salty). Surprisingly, the food travelled well.

Kaylene Ponto

There are always line up at lunch and dinner hour. Broth is ok.. It's more fusion taste to me. Parking should be on the street but no on the bank. Staff is ok not speak Japanese tho. Not good place to chat since busy place. Limited space. Food comes quick enough.

Very good ramen. It's worth the wait in line.

Frederic Burrell

Awesome ramen here, comparable to the best I've had in Japan. Price is ok/average, the line-ups are a shame, they need a bigger location.

Jovie Velasco

Ramen was salty and so we had to pour water on our ramen at home. Overall was OK but wasnt the best. The gyudon rice was schorched rice but pretty OK. I like the gyudon the most out of 4 menus. The staff was so kind and polite. Someone recommands this place to us but we wont have ramen here twice at least for to go.

Roméo Devereaux

Amazing ramen! Fast service. Get there early for lunch.

Cee gee

Ordered on Uber eats and it arrived quicker than expected. The Raman was excellent, just as good as dining in.

Danny Tanner

Just amazing. I had the Black Miso Ramen and it was so earthy and deep with flavours. The egg was beautiful and as much as I don’t care for charshu pork, it was cooked to perfection. Service was friendly and I appreciate that they leave you to it but are around if you need anything. DEFINITELY have the pear sake. Yes it may seem expensive but oh was it worth it and I can not find it to buy at the LCBO.

Kevin Lee

It was delicious and flavorful. Had the spicy tan tan and it was amazing. Will definitely come back soon!

Jared M

This place is something else I tell you. I always wondered why people were lining up whether its snowing or raining until a colleague took me there. Just gotta go check it out yourself.

First time customer. The food was great!

Bruna Saes

Waited 10 min in line to get in. Was seated at a larger table with other guests. Great way to make new friends! The mirrors make the restaurant look deceptively twice the since than it actually is. The spicy tantan with the thick noodles was AMAZING and I now can't wait to come back to try all the ramen menu items! Tried to order the Japanese soda but it was so popular that they were all out at the moment. Fantastic and friendly service. Food was prepared quickly!

First time going here. My fiancé and I went for lunch today, and even though we didn't have a reservation (which they ask people to have, we didn't realize that) they still accommodated us. We only had an hour as they politely asked us to leave shortly after an hour goes by, but that was plenty of time for us. All the staff were friendly and greeted us as we came and left. We enjoyed bowls of the most DELICIOUS ramen. Our food came so quickly too, which was great for our time frame of one hour. I had travelled to Japan before, and this tasted so authentic and amazing. The atmosphere felt like I was back in Kyoto. We also had some gyoza and fried chicken. Absolutely delicious. The prices were fair and reasonable too. Will definitely be visiting again soon!!

Philippe Legault

Sansotei is where you want to go for as an authentic an experience possible of ramen in Ottawa. Truly fantastic worthy of the lines! I dream of this.....

Michael Johnston

Basically you pay for salty water and cheap noodles. The 2 pieces of pork you get are disgusting! They are so dry that you can't even chew them... I know I am not supposed to expect anything fancy for a $12 soup, but this was far from being even edible. And my boyfriend eats EVERYTHING that isn't nailed down but he could not eat what they brought us. And we were hungry! And we left hungry and we felt like washing mouths with vodka to kill the horrible taste of those Ramens... Also, this place is not extremely cheap. Considering, that you don't get much meat. At any Greek/Lebanese place you get salad, delicious meat and rice for the same price! And you are full and happy. Enough of ranting, but it was out of the ordinary yucky! You will never want to eat another Japanase food after that one). Ok. Stop. Full stop.

The broth is amazing. Great ramen in Ottawa. There will be a lineup because the food it great.

Chris Reichelt

We enjoy this place, it has a very small menu but the ramen is nice. The spicy tantan is awesome ask for it extra spicy.

Raja Johnpulle

Very delicious ramen! We ordered 4 different kinds and they were all very good. The service is very efficient and staff is very nice!

Kath LB

Very tasty, beaurifully served ramen! Friendly staff, nice place, very good prices!

Edgar Ramirez

Sensational soup's and dumplings. Service was great and the food was flavourful and reasonably priced. Even though we had to wait outside, behind about 10 people on a Tuesday, it only took about 15 minutes to get a table for 4. Go there. You will not be sorry.

Pierre Dubois

Delicious flavor. Good pricing. Easy to miss if not from the area.

Keith Diaz

Definitely the best place for ramen in Ottawa. Totally worth the wait with it's very flavorful food and great service. I suggest you try the tonkotsu ramen you won't regret it.

Ludovick

It’s CAD 12.50 and worth every cent. I throughly enjoyed my hot bowl of tonkotsu garlic ramen. Service is fast and friendly. Will revisit to satisfy my ramen cravings.

hannah

I've been here since they first opened summer of 2016. I can't believe it's been 5 years and I'm still ordering the same dish from here - the venerable 'Tonkotsu Black'. They've expanded their menu quite a bit since then but I'm still faithful to my original choice. It's the only place that would satisfy all my kid's varying palettes. This location is busy and for good reason. Fortunately, there isn't too long of a lineup during off hours during this pandemic era. The Merivale location is just as great and believe it or not, the King St location in downtown Toronto is smaller than the Bank St one. It's a testament to the recipe and commitment to quality ramen for I've found the taste pretty much the same in all 3 locations I've tried. Can you see that I'm super biased in my review? Keep up the great work - my vote for best ramen franchise in Ottawa!!

Koalo Poloui

The best ramen, I’ve ever had. But always a line in front of the restaurant.

Patricia

Authentic Japanese ramen. Really good food. I gave 4 stars, because it would be nice they have a vegetarian option, same broth but with vegetables only.

I tried it in Toronto the first time, a lot of ppl waiting outside which means it’s quite popular, amazing Japanese ramen! I’m glad they open it here too

Christine L

I'm a ramen fiend and this is some of the best I have come across. The black fungus ramen is incredible! I asked for some chili oil to make it spicier.

Nick Bourne

The ramen from Sansotei was unreal. It was the best food I have had from a restaurant in a while. Depth of flavor ✔ quality of the ingredients ✔ juicy and tender pork ✔ honestly, it is a must-try, and I will definitely be going back. The staff were also super friendly, which made it a really nice experience when I went to order to-go. Only negative was the size of the cheesecake slice. It was very small.

Tara Lee

This place is pretty small, and always has a line up - but if you like Ramen, you'll love this place. They have a selection of bowls, I tried the Tonkotsu Black - delicious! Once we were seated the service was fast and the server was great. She explained everything on the menu, made great recommendations and super friendly. Definitely going back to try the other bowls too. It's worth the line up!

Kelly Ngwenya

There is always a line out the door, but the wait is worth it. Just the pork belly on top of the noodles is worth it. Nice atmosphere with fast and friendly service. The broth is very flavourful and noodles are chewy. I can’t wait to go back and try different bowls.

Elizabeth H

Surprisingly hip and high quality. Decent ramen flavours, fast service, and great prices. Raises the bar for Ottawa.
