Excellent service❤️

Joël Sabourin-Poirier

It's expensive but it's REALLY worth it!

Trident

Great food and service. Not quite as good as their Victoria location, but pretty close.

Jared Dykler

Going to Japanese Village is always fun, the tepinyaki is fun to watch even though they don't do as much of a show as other Japanese restaurants.

Sifu Stephane Patenaude

Fresh food with a great show

Justa Bee

Wonderful steak dinner. The filet is very tender. Cooked right in front of you. You can ask for fork/knife if you're unable to use chop sticks. I've been a few times, all great food. It's very "american Japanese" food so it's on the sweeter side. You will leave smelling of the food as you are so close to the element so expect to go change before heading out to another place. You may want to stop home and take a shower or spritz with some cologne.

Richard Bowlby

Terribly slow, we left before being served..over an hour

samantha bellefeuille

First time going there and I have to say the food was really good. It was a heck of an experience and I’d for sure recommend to friends and family. I’d love to go again. I had shrimp tempura, Fillet mignon, and other sides. Red wine was amazing too. Great atmosphere and food.

Bottle Senpai

Went with family for the first time we had an awesome chef at our table amazing food and tricks, but our server was absolutely pathetic, the worst service I have ever seen in my life this women demanded we tip her atleast $10 per person and forced the debit machine down our throats. The women serving us should be fired for this.

Andrew Scheel

Food and staff we're amazing. Great place for a large group. The place needs an update though.

Tristan Bali

Great food and super friendly staff ????????????

Kayla Anka

I love this restaurant! I go on a frequent basis. You have to get the entres that comes with the soup, rice, salad and main... its always a lot of fun and great service!

Gabriel Posada

Food is extremely good, service was also good. It is a really good place to go with family or friends. It really nice to be able to watch the chef make your food right infront of you. Prices are not the best but it is worth to pay for the amazing experience. The only down side of the restaurant is that the restaurant is very hot, it could be good to have some A/C if possible.

Jerome Gobuyan

I’ve always had positive experiences in the past at Japanese Village. That was not the case today. First, they didn’t seem to be checking for vaccination proof. Second, they have lost their liquor license, so no sake, wine or beer with your meal. More importantly, it has lost whatever Japanese vibe it had with the curt attitudes of the staff and the mediocre performance of the chef. This typically happens when a Japanese restaurant isn’t run by Japanese people. Although the food was tasty, it was expensive for what you get even if you factor in the “entertainment value” of having the food cooked in front of you. Overall a disappointing experience.

Sab C

The staff are hardworking but terribly disorganized and practice poor judgement. Be prepared to wait over an hour for a table, with or without reservation. There are no designated hostess, bartender or junior staff to clean the tables. The low number of waiters/waitresses are ment to perform all duties.

Jing Lu

Decent Teppayanki at reasonable price We've enjoyed the delicious ginger sauce and reasonable portions. It's a fun place for a team gathering. I have been eating at the JV for nearly 20 years, through several changes of owner/management, but the quality of food has remained somewhat the same (maybe a little less than before, size of salad is considerably smaller now, sauces are also more watery). One thing I do find odd is that the chef always cleans the cooking surface while clients are still eating, it's really unsightly! The place also needs better ventilation as your cloths and hair will smell! [2018-09-07] Downgrading the rating to 3-star. Since the minimum wage hike, this place has been going downward ever since. They now cook the veggies in the kitchen instead of on the teppan right in front of you. The end result is mushy, lukewarm vegetables with significantly smaller portion. I understand that the business is adjusting to the new regulations, but diminishing quality is NOT the way to go!

Sebastien F

A little pricey but the food and staff are good.

Donald Pigeon

Always good food and good taste, limited beer choice but good wine card. And their cook are always good entertainers.

Fannie Lalonde

Always well greeted

Michael March

Great food, great atmosphere and a great price. I leave full each time. I cannot understand why this place isn't always packed. When I need a place for 8 people.. This is my goto place.

mike stephenson

A bit expensive but the food is great. They need to expand their beer selection, just a bunch of lagers to choose from, a local ale or IPA would be a good option to add

Kathy Kirshner

Prices have gone up significantly. I find the "show" is not terribly engaging or enthusiastic anymore. If I'm going to pay $46 per person for steak and shrimp, I'd rather go to a place that had a classier atmosphere. We've been bringing our blended family here for 12 years but it's getting old now. Sorry JV! Your ginger sauce is still spot on though!

Shelley Lean Shusterman

Slow inconsistent service. No special attention for family celebrating special birthday, disappointing experience.

Patty Okoh

5 of us went to JV Oct 29th and what a difference the restaurant quality of food must has dropped because you use to get soup, salad, your main and dessert. I asked for shrimp appetizer and I got chicken skewers. The main course had such little food for 7 people at our table 2 slices of onions and 6 slivers of zucchini..... we all had to share, we had to request more rice. Our salad was so small it had about 7 pieces of lettuce in the bowl. The steak sauce was so watery that it didn't cling to the steak and had no flavour. Waitress asked if we wanted ice cream or sorbet not knowing you had to pay for it as it use to come with the meal. The sorbet tasted like they added orange Tang to it and had a bright orange color that was off putting. I will never go back to the restaurant the food quality has diminish quite a bit. The waitress are miss informing the patrons about the new menu, which is awful.

Have been here 10+ times over the past 3 years and am editing my review from 5star to 4star for the following: We had a group of 8 and the Chef was great, tried his best to make sure everyone had fun. Server was 1/5. Multiple errors with simple orders, missed appetizers, forgotten beverages. She would say yes and acknowledge your request but not write anything down and then act like it was your first time ordering(no apology) when you tried to order again. Rice bowls were less than 1/4 full and when we asked for more rice she(server) said they ran out... Chef compensated with extra veggies which we appreciated but had we been first timers we would have never known that a teaspoon of rice was with our meal was not normal. I wish they put more effort into "serving". All in all we had fun because of our group and the chef but a lot was left to be desired based on previous experiences.

Monique Bouchard

We held a Birthday party with 20 people. It was amazing, the staff go out of their way to please everyone! Myself and a few other people had food allergies and all were met with great care. Food was amazing as was staff! I highly recommend this place for the great experience. Price varies on what you order on the menu. Very reasonable.

CrC Nommack

Nice food made in front of you

Joe Brooks

I always get the filet mignon with a few extra salads to start. This is by far one of my favourite little places to show people in Ottawa, highly recommend ????

Tracy Lo

Don't be too comforted by your reservation! As one Seinfeld episode aptly describes, they "know how to take a reservation...but do they know how to HOLD a reservation?". Our res for 5 ppl was at 7pm and we finally got seated at...8:15. Mind you, the last of our party didn't arrive until 7:25 but even so, that's too long to wait. Food was tasty and the cooking show was entertaining. No complaints there. Biggest downfall, and likely the reason we won't go back. My friend ordered a Vodka/water. She was charged for a cocktail instead of just the liquor. The explanation behind this from the bartender was that it constitutes as a cocktail because they mixed it (they didn't even put a lime in it!). So one should just order their liquor separately and pour their own water in so to not be unfairly charged.

joshua DD

The wait was too long. The pricing is way too high for how little you get. Never eating there again. Don’t waste your money

Paolo D'Arsie

The food is great and it's always fun watching them cook in front of you

George Adaimy

I expected more... usually these types of places offers you a show that goes with your meal... but the chef barely said a word or smile was business as usual!! He didn't put equal portions to everyone even though i paid extra for my meal (extra shrimp) and the PLACE definitely needs better ventilation!

Sarah Montague

Food was amazing!

Brother Ollie

Excellent tasty and fun meal. Great for kids, nice staff as well. I'll definitely be back!

RJR OA

Great food!

Kerri Toal

Delicious food. Lots of fun. Does get a bit smokey though.

François-Gabriel Lecompte

Fantastic restaurant, I've been coming here since a young age and it's never disappointed. Also, great place to bring a date.

Miguel Lariviere

Food is great. I am never disapointed.

Kelly Akpaleapik

Will definitely go back for more meals

Sebastien Laroche

Excellent food and show. Best ginger sauce and sesame sauce in town. Pair up with a excellent Chianti.

Pamela Eastwood

Fun and great food

Miguel Cepeda

There was no bartender on a busy Saturday night. Well staffed placed, just no organization.

Studio Paisley

My family and I have been coming here for over 20 years, and I have no complaints except for how reservations are being handled right now. We called a few days in advance to make a reservation for a birthday. On the day of the reservation, …

Kieron Torrance

Always fantastic service and the food is always amazing. Highly recommend the shrimp!

Ian Barclay

Very impressed, would come back.

Jeremy Irving

An Ottawa secret. A favourite spot in town. Filet Mignon and Shrimp every time.

Murray Brown

The food was ok. Despite being served 3-4 items there were all cooked and tasted the same. Even though the restaurant was not busy we felt rushed to leave. They even cleaned our grill as we were still sitting there. Worse, they cleaned the grill across from us while people were still eating. Our chef didn't really wow us and he was very quiet and not too funny.

Karine Roy

Good food and fun atmosphere. Amazing experience.

Jon Kirk

The Filet Mignon!

Marcus

It took 45 minutes for me to get my food cus i ordered and then the server said that I had to wait for the other people! It took 15 minutes of my time and then them ordering took 7 minutes preparation took 10 minutes! And then I had to wait for the food to cook. I mean there is a show in front of me but all that was special about it was a fire. Overall the restaurant takeS a lot of time to reserve, order, prepare, and cook before eating!!!

Claude Taillon

Good food. Good fun. Would have liked more of a show.

Marc-Andre Therien

NEVER GO THERE ...THE STAFF JUST GOT OFF THE BOAT ...THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND NOTHING ...THEY SHOULD AT LEAST HAVE ONE PERSON THAT SPEAKS ENGLISH THERE ....LONG AND SLOW SERVICE

Farid Faizi

First time and it was great experience.

C Seguin

Having gone to the Japanese Village many times before my experience was just okay this time. Price has gone up significantly, 70 dollars with just water as my beverage. Food was only so-so. No drink menu anymore which would have been nice to know ahead of time.

Bob Dude

can't go wrong here. they have perfected the experience. the food is delicious, hot, entertaining and fresh. you sit at a common table with others some times, and your food is prepared in front of you on the grill by a chef who is as artful with culinary as funny! great place for a family birthday or just with friends.

Malcolm Peterson

Great service with amazing food, and an awesome show! Great family dinner spot!

Mark Ignatiev

Such a weird place, stuck in the early 80s and smelling of a retirement home with clientele mostly composed of same. Exploiting an obsolete gimmick with little energy or enthusiasm, the cooks offer one mandated joke and one mandated fire on the grill. As others have mentioned, the food is very salty. All benefits of having the food cooked in front of you are lost as you wait for the entire table of strangers to receive their sides first, and then the mains, leaving your plate half cold by the time your main arrives. To be fair, the entrees are pretty delicious... You should see if you can get a carnivore discount and skip on all the sides and extras, they are below average. Avoid the sushi and sashimi, it is not fresh, according to the menu, or properly prepared. The service is friendly but mediocre at best. Avoid Japanese Village entirely if you can.

Jennifer Rourke

Delicious! Great service and very engaging!

Paulo (Paul)

Great food, respectful employees and great menu options with food prepared right in front of you! This is a great place to visit

Saeed Torbati

Very unique and interesting experience

Robert Hurst

It was another great experience, wonderful food and staff.

Veronik Laurin-Roy

Unique concept, great food ????

Andrea V

Really great tasting food but for the price I thought there'd be more of a "show" rather than just one big flame and dinner. Still delicious though!!

Mike Z

Tasty food!

Vatsla Chauhan

Amazing food and staff❤️

Francis Julien

Excellent. To be fair, everything sorta has a similar underlying salty soy sauce taste, but the food is still delicious and the chefs cooking right in front of you are quite entertaining. My favourite restaurant in Ottawa!

Roy & Jeanine Ch

Food is very tasty , super fillet mignon, but little bit over price.

Ali Houman

Hidden in the heart of Ottawa business district! Great friendly staff and chefs! Very good food and very reasonable pricing.

Alexandro Carranza

Terrible.. Mandarine buffet is far superior.

Karen Wilson

Better food can be had close by for similar price

Milla Robinson

So delicious! All time favourite!

N N

Food was good. Unique experience, however quantity was little. Came home hungry

Andrey Reshetnyak

It's a nice place with a good food. The reason why I put 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service is very slow, and the portions are way too small.

Diane Irakoze

Absolutely amazing place to be! Always going there for good food and good times

Alexandre Contreras

Definitely an experience to try again! The food is cooked right in front of you, and it is delicious! Staff is super friendly. Sauce is to die for!

Andy Stang

Wonderful food and experience. The trick is to eat slowly since the food comes in many stages. Bathrooms could definitely use some renos but acceptable. The only downfall of this amazing delicious restaurant is that once you come out you smell like fried foods. Excellent experience, delicious steak (definitely try their sesame sauce its to die for).

Zach Rochefort

Love it. Great prices

Gordon Macleod

Great food and experience

Becky Wilkie

It was delicious, however very pricy, minimal showmanship, bathroom still looks like it is stuck in the 80's, the interior of the restaurant is very dated, atmosphere was good.

Brenna Harrington

Always such a fun, amazing and delicious experience. Highly recommend. Best bet is to make a reservation to make sure your whole party is together in front of the same chef and grill. Small parties are easily accordâtes also if you chose to just walk in.

Stephen George

My sons favorite place to eat! Always delicious and an interactive cooking experience.

Guy Dutrisac

I've probably been to this restaurant 30 times in the better part of the last 15 years. They have recently changed a few things like the tables and a bit of the decor. The only reason I don't give this place a 5 star is the what seems to be a downsizing in food/ pricing. The miso soup used to be included with the combo meals and the salad actually had 2 pieces of tomatoes (seriously who takes out pieces of tomato). On our most recent outing we realized the prices have changed, jumping from $36 to $44 for the same plate. That is quite a jump. While I love the food I wouldn't consider $150 bill acceptable in this dining experience (2 people). We will definitely be coming less often. Update: Decided to go back (Nov19th, 2021), prices are now $52 per plate. No alchohol 2 adults + 2 kids (under 12). $210 --- HELL NO!.... NOPE.... NO MORE.... IT'S DONE! Thanks for the memories but I will not be back.

Patrick Patenaude

Showmanship and food not up to my standards. Not worth the money

Angie St Gelais

One of a favourite restaurants

Andrew Harvey

Great food with a fun show at your table

Louis-Philippe Quesnel

Good food. The chef cooks your food directly at the table in front of you. Busy place, you better do reservations. Restaurant is located in a basement. The cooking vents could be more powerful as when you smell like food when you leave the restaurant.

Brandon C

We have dined here on a number of occasions and, as always, the service is excellent. The staff is very friendly and the food is superb. I recommend this restaurant to all my friends.

Ji Min An

Worst place ever. I asked for steak to be cooked rare and the chef name, Nori, gave medium. So Nori cooked beef again and told me, with an angry tone, that i should’ve asked for blue rare. The attitude was horrible and he treated customers as if we dont know what rare is. Such a rude chef. I won’t visit here again!

Marky_marc

Not a good place if you're in a rush but definitely an experience. The sauces are overly salty and add nothing to the meal which is good on its own. I had the beef and chicken, my friend had the beef and shrimp.

A

Too overpriced !! Service and quality went down in the last 2 years and price went up Not going back

Edward Ali

Smoky but great food.

Genevieve Brunet

It was ok kind of crowded and the master chef's look like they are annoyed by the tapenayaki experience. The food was good, nice size portions and fresh. It was quite expensive though...

Spencer Young

Still good but they need to update their menu. It's not quite worth the money anymore.

Crystal Casey

Best sushi I've tried to date! Exquisite plate bountiful of variety (or keep it simple with small select options) and fabulous service. Went with group of six and we all enjoyed our experience here - thank you :-)

Jamesh_66

Cool place to go with friends, and very entertainment, the food is top tier in my opinion and the salmon I ordered was prepared really well ????

Shafagh Alikhani

Took my husband here for his birthday. His favourite restaurant is Suisha Garden O'Japan but unfortunately they are closed on Sundays. Neither of us were very impressed by the service. The food was just ok and when I told the waitress that it was my husband's birthday she said they can bring ice cream but charge $7 for it. Nothing at this place is worth going back to.

Lara Clarke

Always amazing.

Iris Oliveira

I loved my experience ♥

TheDeadGent

Always an amazing time going here, the experience of being cooked and served tableside is always worth it ESPECIALLY here. It would be a five star rating if they still had the soup and yakitori chicken they used to serve but alas with changing times come changing menus. The filet mignon and shrimp however are like they always have been, to DIE for.

David Quan

Average quality food at a good price.

Joshua Gilbert

Mediocre hibachi. Chefs don't really DO anything other than mix up food in front of you. No games, no tricks, no interaction. The food was OK, and was smaller portion wise than every other hibachi I've been to.

Justin Milton

Amazing chefs, unbelievable food, and overall great atmosphere! Highly recommend, especially with a group!

Suzanne Larocque

Delicious and satisfying everytime.

Tania Lacroix

Food is fantastic!!

stephanie tsang

I loved it, food was great.

Ben Smith

Great tapenyaki steak house experience a must if you like shrimp!

Simon Rinella

My new favorite restaurant. Pricy but worth it

Leo Sukhbir Singh

Good experience, food is ok, very expensive, small portions. I was still hungry after a 35$ meal

Eric Lacroix

Great place to bring someone for there birthday! Food was great. Service was on the spot!

Ian Johns

Love the experience! So fun!

Nathan King

Wonderful place to go on a date and bring some friends. Our friend's babie's eyes went wild when they did the big oil flame. Worth the money everytime.

Oscar Romero

It was fun and good! We had a great night

Denis Godin

No longer wearing traditional outfits, disappointing.

Jason Hodgert

Quality and portion sizes have dwindled in recent years, but still good food and a good time

Christian

Fantastic

Jaimie Rockburn

Love Japanese Village! Intimate, cozy, delicious food, great chefs

Gregoire Millette

Good food. Entertaining cooks

Daniel Myre

Super experience and great ambiance. Food choices is the only thing that is missing for the fifth star.

Tố Uyên

I was super disappointed. The food had no flavour at all and soaked in buckets of oil. I ordered chicken teriyaki, lobster tails, beef steak and some soup but they are all taste the same. All i taste is oil and a little bit of soy sauce. The salad was a pinch of salad, their supposed to be shrimp with the food and they give only two tiny pieces. The food come with a little bit of onion and beansprout, they charged me $8 for one mushroom. My partner just took 2 bites of chicken and can not eat it anymore because it was so oily. The food is expensive but definitely not good. I would never ever come back!! I was looking for to try something Janpanese but it was upset me a lot. I hope the restaurant would consider about the food's quality. Not all the food cook the same, taste the same, just oily and soy sauce taste. The service is not bad but the food makes me very unhappy and feel sick. I definitely can have better experience with cheaper prices from another restaurant.

R Pietr

I could drink the ginger steak sauce it is so delicious

Joshua Roberts

Placed an order online for delivery for 4 high priced items at 730 PM. I then received a text that said they were too busy that night to serve me. I heard the food here was pretty good. They closed at 9 PM. Dissatisfied.

Marc Michel

Lively and entertaining, oh and the food was awesome.

Nicole Marconi

The food is fantastic fresh and tasty the knife skills are amazing

Brittany Greene

Very fun environment! Food was incredible, and the show was even better.

Vanesa Gauna

Such an amazing experience. Amazing food and friendly staff ! 5 star

Eduardo Jean-Joseph

Food was ok nothing extraordinary. Casual place to eat. Was hoping to see more traditional Japanese food instead of a northbamerican style menu content.

Adam Aubin

The food is amazing and the chefs are fun and talented. Charming ambiance and decor. The only problem I ever had is with the wait staff service. It's very hard to get their attention and you will often go without a drink for quite some time.

Scott Levers

We took the family for our son's 18th birthday. From start to finish the food was outstanding. I understand that the show wasn't as great as it could have been but we were satisfied and the atmosphere could have been better. The service was excellent as well. The only thing that was a bit chessy was when my wife told them it was our son's birthday they said they would do something but it would cost $3.50. I have never had that happen before. Nothing like dropping $250 and being told you have to cough up another $3.50 for a bit of ice cream.

Thomas Kiperchuk

Excellent food. Wish the chef's had a little more flair though.

Bing F. Hum

Nice Japanese ambiance. The location of the restaurant was hard to find. There was no sign inside the lobby of the building to indicate where the restaurant was. After many enquires the restaurant was in the basement to the left inside the lobby. There was no fancy cooking showmanship like flipping of the salt and pepper shakers in the air, fancy knife work etc. The food was ok. Very friendly staff.

Bernard Lemieux

My last two visits haven't been good ones. I liked this place years ago, but the prices have gone up almost 50% and the quality has gone down. The server didn't bring soy sauce with the appetizer and didn't come back around. We were the only table there at the time, so we went and grabbed it ourselves. I don't care much for the tricks, but if I'm paying for it, it should be entertaining. Today's chef was dropping his utensils, and none of his knives were sharp. He struggled to remove the tails from the shrimp and cut the chicken. The lemons were sliced so thin no juice came out when he twisted them. Our table was laughing, so it was some form of nervous entertainment. I hoped his mistakes were part of an act at first, but the dull knives explained it. He did the usual routine of Japanese ketchup and Japanese cola, but if you didn't know it you wouldn't have made out the words he was saying. There may as well have not been a salad, the dressing was the only good part of it. The tuna sashimi wasn't fresh, I would've rather gone to an all-you-can-eat for what we ate. The main dishes were mediocre, and only came with one type of sauce, not the two they used to serve. There were no chopsticks, which would've been okay if the fork came with a knife. They'll bring you a butter knife if you ask. They weren't running any of the fans for ventilation today. The smell was too strong towards the end of the meal. Their computer was stuck in a loop that kept crashing. It took five minutes before the girl pulled out her iPhone to calculate the price. I don't know what happened, I'm not able to recommend this place anymore.

Blue Tang

Amazingly delicious food

Eric Spenceley

Warm, cozy atmosphere. Excellent food.

Sean Miller

I can't say enough about this place. Located in an underground floor of a tall appartment complex, this restaurant represents one of the great largely hidden gems of the city. Absolutely delicious, and you always feel great after eating there. The cooks couldn't be more friendly. If you like Teppanyaki, find yourself in Ottawa, and have the coin sufficient for the reasonable-but-nonetheless high food prices, enjoy this masterpiece of a restaurant at all costs.

Colin Kealty

This will be some of the absolute best steak and shrimp you've ever eaten. If you took away the presentation, the entire thing would be worth its money, but then add the show on top and it becomes a wonderful evening with amazing food. Sometimes the wait can be long but the staff is accommodating. Friendly environment, you'll love it.

Kirsten Oursin

Pricey but delicious. This is a treat yourself kind of place.

Jemima Gomes

Very fun to watch, good food, fun cook.

Carter Morrish

Amazing food and friendly staff - would recommend!

Trusted Flagger

Amazing restaurant experience well worth $100 for 2 people with dinner and 2 alcoholic beverages each

Chris Batchilder

Fantastic. Our chef was great and the food was delicious. Had a great time.

Monica Hrubcin

Came here to celebrate my husbands birthday and it didn’t disappoint! Everyone loved the restaurant, the food was delicious, the show was nice and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating!

Alain Pratte

Good food and always fun to watch you food cooked for you.

Andrew Wolgemuth

In recent years, Japanese Village has seemed a little run-down and under-attended, so perhaps my view is too tainted with nostalgia, but I love this place. It's where I first learned to use chopsticks as a child. The basement location, with its subdued entrance and indirect lighting, has always felt like some sort of secret club. And even if the not-actually-Japanese cooks make the same corny jokes that you'll hear at any teppanyaki place, I never fail to smile at the moment when the food is flambéed on the grill. And the ginger sauce is downright addictive. A secret den of flashy knifework, open flames and ginger sauce; I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.

Andrew L.

Excellent place for a date or group outing. Delicious food and fun atmosphere.

Ian Murphy

Good food

Brittany Mendrikis

Good food, friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere

Nadia A-L

Disappointed. By both the show and the food. Really wanted to try it, and now that I have, I will not go back. Chicken was dry, salad dressing wasn't good, the chef did not entertain as expected for the price of the food. When they say every plate includes shrimps, I want to point out that it's only 2 tiny shrimps.

Mavis Jade

The service is amazing. I've been going here for Four years with my parents. The ambiance is amazing. The prices are great. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't like it.

robert doan

Pretty cool place. Kind of hot. But what do you expect? Food was OK

Bart Vink (DutchBully)

Awesome rib eye, fun entertainment

Edward Harrison

Food is great, performance is sweet

Adam Smiley

A real gem in the heart downtown Ottawa. We always dine here for any special occasion and consistently introduce friends from out of town to Japanese Village. The service is amazing and the ambiance is truly special.

MurtazaSiddiqui Real estate AGENT 0ttawa

Great filet mignon

Eric Tackaberry

Bad service with a matching manager, overpriced under-loved food. Manager was rude when explaining my issues of the oil dripping from the ceiling form the Teppanyaki. he was dismissive and rude. Food was greasy and under-seasoned.

Chris

My meal was amazing! I had the lobster and filet with wagyu beef as a side. I also had the 5oz sake. It was all delicious! My wife had the teriyaki chicken, which was a bit overcooked, but still tasted quite nice.

Priscilla B

Been going here for over 15yrs.. absolutely love it, meals are always amazing . Never disappointed.

Damian Polan

Food and service is great.

Jonathan McLaren

I was pretty disappointed unfortunately. I had heard a lot of good things about this place and I am not sure if my experience was an exception but it certainly didn't make me want to come back. The food wasn't the worst but it was pretty expensive and the service alongside was not the greatest. Life is too short to pay a lot of money for mediocre food and slow service.

E B

Really fun atmosphere. Really good food. Menu doesn't have a wide variety but you'll find something you like.

Claude Saumur

Such a beautiful experience, Sam the owner is so welcoming.

Suyen Doan

A teppenyaki restaurant. Food was good. Nothing above and beyond any other teppenyaki. Seems to be a very popular spot as there was a lot of foot traffic in and out of the restaurant.

Loren Klimchuk

Great experience and we love the atmosphere. We have going every year for fourteen years.

Claude Guay

Nice place to go for lunch, not too expensive, fun to watch them prepare your food!

Mathew Pinard

Great food, only went there for lunch but the price is reasonable and the staff is awesome.

cassandra lewis

It was such a fun experience! I really loved the food even stuff o don't usually like. The only complaint I have is that there is no changing table but they allow you to bring your baby..

Awais Jaffery

Amazing ambiance and food. The place is really busy on weekends so even with a reservation we had to wait for 20 minutes to get a seat. The food is amazing and cooked right in front of you with a bit of entertainment and the steak is just out of this world and cooked to perfection. I was very pleased with the overall service and the food, would highly recommend it to everyone who is visiting Ottawa.

Sacha Amin

Restaurant is actually closed and doesn't open until 5 for dinner.

Kitty Thorne

Enjoyable atmosphere, talented cooking

Seb

Awesome food and awesome experience.

Jacques Turpin

Delicious and entertaining!!!

Thanks yes, we were a group of 12. I had filet mignon with shrimp dish it was beautiful, a nice Japanese salad with a scoop of icecream. My family brought me out for my 60th Birthday.. our server was No He was great. Thanks for the memories.

greg lau

No fried rice. Everything else was good.

Stratis Tsapoitis

Great food, the chef was excellent and made good conversation

tyler turner

Servings aren't huge but they don't need to be. Quality meats, fresh seafood, and all very tasty. Never dissatisfied!!

Alona Bazlova

Didn’t really enjoy my meal at Japanese Village. I ordered the fillet mignon which is very pricey and and it was not tender and not flavourful like it should be. My husband had the chicken teriyaki and it was also very average. It is also super hot in there because of the fire. Not the best dinning experience.

Matin S

SoooOooo Good!!!

Lesley Anderson

They accommodated our large family last minute when I messed up our reservation! All had a great time!

Bo Yu

Very expensive and all the food tastes the same... they use the SAME sauce for everything. Wife and I both ordered the lobster tail with fillet mignon (asked for medium got well done) and added some scallops and all tasted the same. We shared 1 appetizer (spicy salmon roll) and each had 2 beers... $200 later... not impressed at all The dining environment was all very stuffy and HOT with very poor ventilation... the restaurant being in the basement definitely does not help. The "show" was not much better than Teriyaki Experience from any mall food court with a 3 second 4 feet flared flame being the climax... And the service was far from adequate. Ordered plain water and it came 30 minutes after...

Kenny S

Well oiled flavor delivery machine. Personal attention makes a great experience!

ncsc systems

Authentic and pleasant food

Leesa Sowdluapik

Good food

Simon Lesage

Awesome experience. Food was amazing. Price too. Dont wear anything fancy, at the end, your clothes will smell the food hard.

Shady Hafez

Great food! Gets very smokey when its busy though, they may need to fix the ventilation. But aside from that, it's an Ottawa classic.

jon w

Good food, entertaining, fresh cooked off the grill in front of your eyes onto your plate. Expensive but enjoyable

Tracy Marcotte

Was my first time and it was fantastic, service was great and food was amazing.

Emmett Kelly

Best meal in a long time

G DS

This is basically an upscale Japanese BBQ kind of place. City hall parking is nearby. The food is amazing and the chef guy cooking in front of you is very kind. He is particularly nice to families too. Food service is great and reasonably priced.

Carolyn Tapardjuk

Best food!

Danick Plouffe

Amazing experience

Joe piscatelli

Had a Great evening at this restaurant. Top top quality beef and seafood dining. My family enjoyed the dining and chef attention.

Sebastien Malherbe

Food is very good and decent value. Went with our two kids who really enjoyed watching our meals getting prepared in front of us. The kids menu for $10 is terrific. Could improve on picking up plates in a more timely fashion. Would definitely go back.

Mabel Zhou

The show was pretty impressive and the food was delicious. Beware if you don't have a big group of people, you'll be forced to share a table.

Julian

Very small portions, service didn’t ask me if I wanted refills, overpriced. Won’t be back.

Michel Henri

Very good but pricey.

Moizuddin Syed

Good food

Boulos Zarka

Love it my girlfriend took me there we ate filet mignon shrimp and it was an amazing experience

Danicka Thibault

Great food! Great experience!!

Al Ayoub

Amazing Filet and Veggies! Best of all everything is nice and ????.

Tim HácKmę

When a Japanese grill is ran and operated by Chinese, the end result is Japanese Village. The only two points given is for being the only Japanese grill in town. The staff were ill prepared, no discipline, chefs lacked skill and manners, even a simple gesture of respect to the guests lacks its presence. The place is very warm because it is located in the basement, wear light clothes, or better; as the guest who sat across from our table, a spaghetti strap. They will overcook the steak, shrimps are good, the meat taste is reasonably good. Veggies are nothing to drool for. Prices are expensive, be prepared for $60 or more per person at the time of this writing and no, there are no shares.

Curtis Bedard

Amazing experience everyone should try this atleast once. That sesame sauce its delicious.

Owen A

The food is not that great for the price you are paying. The place is too hot and along with the grill infront of you just makes it an underground oven. The staff is not friendly. It is too loud in there and absolutely no privacy as people are crammed next to each other.

Geneviève Lauzon

The sauces were all good, but only flames one time and one cool knife move. The food was alright, but not worth the price. We went there for the show and the show was super short lived. We asked for more flame show and the chef started to talk down restaurants that do that. I told him we went there FOR the flames... Also, my appetiser came after my main course and we never got to order second drinks. Total disapointment.

Big B 187

consistently great food! love the sauces

Stephanie White

Experience tapanaki where the chef will cook right in front of you. Expect large flames and grilled shrimp, steak, chicken and vegetables.

Shivam Bhandari

Good sushi

tarah piercey

Amazing experience. Expect to wait up to 1 hour at your table for it to fill up. It seats 6 people if you come with 2 or 4 you still have to wait until those other two seats are filled before the cook will even come. That's the only down fall, they need better organization with that. The food just melts in your mouth. Very delicious.

Andrew Whitehead

Sadly, the overall experience has slipped. Much of the showmanship is gone now, on account of safety concerns. Meat was okay, but could have done far better for way less money.

Jessica Ghadban

I've been coming here since I was a kid. Food is fantastic, sauces are life and staff are friendly. Recommend!!

Kyla Weir

Delicious food. No doubt about that. Neat atmosphere and authentic. On the pricey side as it was a bit of an effort to keep it under $100 per person with appetizers, mains and a drink and not the fastest service. I'd definitely go back if I had some money to blow or someone to spend a couple hours with and wanted to share impressive food. I've been to other places like this, where they cook at the table, and had a more impressive demonstration of knives, balance and cooktop skill but maybe they had to tone down for covid? Regardless, this is a tasty, no rush place to enjoy. The salmon is a less expensive option at $26 for the main and it is delicious but you can also get lobster tail and steak for $48. You will likely still want an appetizer going for at least $10 and a drink for another $10 but everything is really good. If you just want to try things but don't want to break the bank or over do it, you can also split meals with people. Good spot for an occasion, maybe pricey to ask friends to spend money a must try for foodies.

Bernadette Pinkney

Well worth the price of the meal. Food is simple but amazing.

Alin Panduru

One of the best tasting foods around! Only downfall as some people have mentioned is in regards to their price increase. They'd get much more business if they made it more affordable/reasonable.

cicero866

We eat here once a year for my sisters birthday, the food is always great, and the sauces are amazing. I wish the meal would come with a bit more salad though as it is quite small. The portions for the rest of the meal are good!

Michael Andersen

Not an awesome place, but often use it as a place to bring the work crew for lunch... Usually not that busy during the day, no idea of what it's like in the evening. Food is adequate, but far from a foodie experience. Lunchtime prices are quite reasonable tho. Quite a bit of variation in the experience depending on the person preparing the food.

J MacDonald

Slightly disappointing food.

Frédéric Demers-Beaudry

Nice place good food! A bit too expensive. And the bathroom are dirty...

Elaine Reynolds

A bit over-priced for what you get. The place also looks run-down. Food tasted okay, but nothing special.

Peter Thomas

One star because I couldn't put zero star. Bad service and rude manager who doesn't speak English. Completely overpriced for garage food.

Trevor Penney

Had a good time, the chefs are fun to chat with. Not the largest menu, but the options they have are tasty

chloe Brabant

Can't get enough of this place. Prices are expensive but the food taste good. Good atmosphere as well.

stephane benarroch

Honestly this place is horrible, it's so overrated this place is old never renovated you can smell the humidity and the oil they don't turn on the AC, the chef didn't synchronise the order to have everything ready on time so you end up eating cold, there was no show or entertainment making food it was very boring and the service was horrible we are never going back there

Jennifer H. L

great experience for the kids. service a little on the slow side, but nice to try once.

Jack CoolMan

Excellent food and experience!

John McGregor

Meh....not very impressive if you've been to similar restaurants elsewhere.

mylow loft

Great cuisine and atmosphere.

Marianne Schmid

Excellent food and veri professional and nice service

Sabrina Mion

Absolutely disgusted, when our server was using the washroom at the same time as me and proceeded out the door without washing her hands!

Eric Landriault

Amazing great food cooking and laughter.

Ashley Dacosta

First time ever experience last night and what an AMAZING experience we had! The staff were fantastic and super friendly. Always making sure we were happy. Food was so good!! So much flavour and variety. I highly recommend this place!! Can’t wait to return

Susan Kllimchuk

Expensive but a unique experience. It's a kitchy place. Been exactly the same for who knows how long. Food is delicious. Must like meat/chicken/ seafood because I don't know what you would eat otherwise. Mostly full multi course meals on hibachi are served. Get ready for the fire ????.

Ela Uluatam

Good food.

M B

False advertising. They don't do onion volcanoes. It's the only reason I'm there. Also the food is horrible in comparison with Edoko nearby. Avoid at all costs.

Dave Kahler

Can't believe how long this place has been open and I never heard of it! Great date night and very reasonable pricing. Love the location and the style of cooking. I had the teriyaki chicken and scallops, everything was fresh and delicious.

Samir Ansar

I really liked the atmosphere. Steak was good. Fairly good prices for lunch time. Will repeat lunch hours often. Very curious about the dinner menu.

Vincent Au

Very descent Japanese restaurant. Ate the meal “lobster and magnoi” and I would say it’s quite the same as the meal I ate a few years back in Kobe. Will definitely recommend anyone who likes Japanese style steak.

Annie Landry

Ate here last summer and I can say it is in my top 3 favourite places to eat in Ottawa. Great memorable experience and delicious food!

Dunn Tway

Great food, great service. A little pricey.

Yannick Tremblay

Worst service ever

N Morrow

It was good. Not much different from the one in Victoria. My only complain was there was no juggling show. Everything else was fantastic. Yes the menus are old. Yes they clean the grill in front of you. It's all good

Steph S

If you are looking for good and efficient service, do not go there! The prices are way too high given the poor service. Do not recommend.

Jayne Del

not enough food for what you pay

Olga Gorbanova

Great food

Dominic Dupuis

Excellent food! Good atmosphere. Friendly staff.

Adam Cooper

Definitely a great experience, but a bit pricey considering the amount of food. Understandable given the entertainment value and food quality, but this place is more of a treat once in a while than a frequent destination

Jack Aubrey

Food's incredible & the chef's are skilled, entertaining & humorous.

george anderson

First time at a Japanese restaurant , slow to get seated but otherwise a good experience.

Sylvana Blais

The food was great! Steaks cooked to perfection!!! I suggest trying the sake, (unless you're driving)!!! All in all, great evening shared with great friends!!

jennifer Gidley

Great place for any celebration. Food was excellent.

Marina Vanderveen

Not recommended..... very disappointed with service and food preparation.

Richard Brault

First time there, food is nothing short of exceptional and the chef was quite entertaining. Will definitely go back.

Regis Lebrasseur

Love the food there. Been there couple of times already and still enjoying going back! Cooks cooking in front of you, good place for groups!

Martin Demers

Food was excellent, service is little slow on drinks but other then that it was awsome

Eric Orser

Amazing food. Table all to ourselves!

M Bern

AMAZING service and ambiance!!

Dany Moulin

We came here for my sister's birthday. The meal is reasonably priced considering it's a dinner and a show! Our chef showed us a good time and was very sociable and joked around. I don't know if it's evem his real name, but je said it was "No" and that he was a CBV hahahah. Anyways, I'd request him as our chef for next time if possible. Awesome time!

feriel drij

Very good experience. The food is delicious

Jay McDonald

Great lunch deal.

chris lamorre

It was pretty cool, not somewhere I'd go all the time but you have to see it once atleast!

Derek Champagne

They literally serve whatever you want, and the chefs are wiiiiild ????????????

Shihui Wang

open time

Aaron Maracle

????????????????????

Amanda Godin

Honesty this place wasn’t the greatest. We were there for like 40 minutes. It was rushed and way too expensive plus it all tastes like salt. The appetizers came after the meal which was weird and it was just too much clones for salt sorry.

Nehal Islam

I went for dinner and the food was great. The gentleman making the food itself was very courteous and entertaining. However, it was spoiled by the service. After paying the bill, I was bombarded by a group of waitresses harassing me for more tip money. I do believe tips are a nice gesture but being swarmed was frankly embarrassing and unprofessional to say the least. The food is great but service leaves much to be desired.

Streets Reader

A friend brought me for lunch. The food was off the hook! The chef was super cool and nice to us. The lunch specials were very affordable. Wish they were open Monday or I'd go today!

Cam Edwards

Had lunch there for the first time - food was good and fast, prices not too bad. But this restaurant could definitely use a website refresh!

stephan laplante

Great food, good experience, nice show by the cook. I recommend, it's a nice experience.

Marc Dionne

Food great my grand kids really enjoyed

Yu Ble

Don’t go there!! It’s absolutely waste of money. It’s not real teppanyaki. The place is so old and filthy. The manager is dishonest. We will never return.

Adam B

Four us ate dinner last night at Japanese Village. Gave three of us immediate diarrhea. Won’t be going back ever again.

andrew11z

As we were visiting Ottawa I made a reservation and enquired about the chefs doing a knife show at the table and was assured by the person taking my reservation that they would. They did not. The waitress serving us virtually had no personality whatsoever. The service was not warm or fun. I had high hopes the chef at our table would be more lively but he too had no personality and no knife show left this as an extremely bland experience. The food was ok and fresh but the price tag was greatly exaggerated considering the non experience. Sadly disappointed. I do not recommend.

Sandra Watson

Service was a little slow. One person in our party was late arriving and server never approached to see if they wanted anything to drink.

Julie Hayes

Have been going here for 30 years. Food is delicious.

Marty

Amazing with reasonable price

Shamir Alavi

The taste is okay considering the hype it gets. Dinner is very expensive compared to the amount of food that you get to eat. The flash plays of the chefs are good to watch, but does not really matter much when you see the big dent in your wallet. Go for lunch, relatively more food for the price, tasty and less expensive.

Ryan

Not as good as it used to be. Still something worth trying once
