The food was typical of the Japanese steak houses - it's almost like they all have the same recipes and sauces. My teriyaki chicken was a little fatty but cooked perfectly as was my shrimp appetizer. Veggies were left too long on the flattop - I should have mentioned I liked them al dente. The sake was slightly bitter - I'm partial to a sweeter version. And although we didn't get the utensils and fire show (other than the flaming onion), the tableside chef (Mexican working in a Japanese resto?) cooking our food was super engaging and cute to boot! If it hadn't been for him and my 11 friends, I would have been disappointed. A large serving of sake and a teriyaki chicken entree, with tip, set me back $77.

Reserved for 7.30 pm, seatin at 8.30 pm, start eating at 9.30 pm. I was hoping the food will be great, then The chef said "I'm from China, a student and doing this part-time job." I said "Well done. Are you studying culinary?" he said "No." Well, that ruined our appetite and felt the food was not good enough. I asked my sister whether she wanted another extra lobsters as usual, she said "No No No". Well it means it's not good. My family didn't enjoy the food.

I have mixed emotions about this place. The mox tempura, salad and soup were delicious but the main course for 22$ was so bad So BAD tasteless saucy made me think of a bad microaved frozen meal. Honestly i doubt I will ever go back. Our server was very nice. Anyways I was really excited about my visit here but the main course was so bad... tasteless, cold smoochy... :(

Soup is too salty. Teppanyaki use same sauce on every dish regardless they are beef, seafood or vegetables. Scallop has no taste. Only beef is acceptable. Salt, pepper and white wine should be good enough for the seafood. Not the unknown sauce.

Saturday December 9th we were a group of about 20 people it was a work event . This place was highly recommended so we did not understand all the issues we encountered once we got there . The service was the worst slowest service I have ever seen , server never introduced herself , she never smiled , she would not speak or look at her guests unless she had too , the food took forever and once we finally got the food it was not very good . The restaurant only had about 3 different groups NOT busy but yet they could not handle it. The price was too high for the quality of service and food we got. Would never recommend anyone to this place

Wow I do not know why I even see positive reviews here. Our experience was a nightmare. My wife and I traveled to Ottawa for vacation and we were looking for a place to eat. When we first walked in, the air smelled like kitchen grease, interior was dark and outdated - we were led to the lower level where the teppanyaki tables were, and the space looked dark and sketchy we left without even ordering anything. the choices on the menu looked expensive and my new clothes smelled like kitchen grease in just 10 min in the restaurant. we ended up eating at highlander pub just couple blocks away and boy we were so happy we switched!

Unfortunately when we went they weren’t serving any sushi, bringing our options down a fair amount In terms of the food show, the onion volcano was not bad, but the fact that it was the only thing that made fire, overall it was underwhelming. Also, food was greasy :(

Recently returned to our favorite restaurant. It is so relaxing to watch some one cook your meal in front of you. I ordered the steak and shrimp. It was cooked to my liking. The sides are excellent I ordered extra noodles almost every time I eat here. The ambience is relaxing and food is excellent. Nice place to take a loved one, family or friends.

The prices are good, the service is passable. The green tea is not what you expect from a Japanese restaurant. They should tell you that they put toasted rice in it. If you are looking for actual green tea that is Japanese style, skip it and go elsewhere. If you are looking for a cup of tea that tastes like someone left a piece of toast in the bottom then this is for you. The sushi was sloppy and the presentation was poor. The wasabi wasn't wasabi. The pickled ginger was thrown on the plate as an afterthought. If I am getting grocery store sushi then I am not looking for decent presentation. If I am in a Japanese restaurant, I expect Japanese sushi. It looks like whoever made our sushi needs to go on vacation to Japan.

Worst Japanese food ever !! Don’t go there !! The Staff is Chinese , I bet the cook is Chinese too. Miso soup was average. The eel roll I ordered had no taste at all My friend ordered different kinds of sushi and wasn’t tasty at all too !! Very expensive for what it is !! I don’t mind paying when it’s flavoury. I pretty much ate what it was in my plate because I was starving , my friend left the half of hers, wasn’t able to finish it . As soon as we finish they brought the bill without asking and a lady showed up with her terminal in order us to pay!! Was very rude !! I’m very dissapointed of the service, very ! Never will go back.

Pre pandemic we used to love this place. This time we went, the quality of the ingredients were great but the guy cooking it just drenched everything in this heavily salted teriyaki sauce made out of tons of margerine, soy and stock. Literally everything other than the bowl of rice was swimming in the same sauce. I think even with just salt the filet mignon and seafood would've just tasted better. My husband found the table sticky and also the washroom sticky. I think charging 40+$ per meal the cooking should be better and the amount of food should be more. It was def a disappointment. Would not recommend or return for the tepanyaki.

The location is convenient for longer work lunches (like celebrating a birthday). Without alcohol, most of your meals with tax and tip will cost approximately $20. In my opinion, your going for the table cooking experience as the food is of average quality. The table cooking "show" is pretty entertaining, but overall service can be slow and the area is old/worn looking. If you've never been it's worth a try, but it isn't my first choice for Japanese cusuine.

Tried this place for the first time and whole experience was just horrible. We placed a takeout order for 8 people. Portions were so small and they overcharge for everything. Lady at the front was so rude, asked for hot sauce on the side and she started fighting, then she didn’t want to give us an extra bag. Our order was over $300 and their service was just so bad. Food tasted like it was cooked in soya sauce only, had no flavor to it. I wish I could give this place zero star.

Highly recommend you go during downtime like on a weekday. There were only 3 groups in the restaurant on Monday evening so we got a whole table to ourselves. The theatrics and cooking is amazing! You're definitely paying for the experience though, because everything on the menu is cooked with the same teriyaki sauce. It's a little overboard but still tasty. We got great service, too.

Don't know about dinner, but really can't recommend it for lunch. My dish was a kind of a soggy, salty mush served with overcooked rice. I get the sense this might've once been a pretty excellent restaurant, but at least based on my one trip, I suspect its era is long behind it.

Note that you'll likely have to sit with strangers if you don't have a party of 6 at the cooking tables. The food was medicore. Too salty, too much sauce, and inconsistent. Likely wouldn't return.

Always great coming here. Owner is very hospitable and prompt. Lots of people come here for lunch and enjoy the grill and delicious sushi. Never had a bad experience. It's a bit tucked away so is usually visited by people who know it's already there.

Don't let the high rating of this establishment fool you and avoid this restaurant at all cost. Upon arrival the waitress gave us the choice of sitting either at the teppanyaki or restaurant side. We chose the teppanyaki (of course) but then she tells us it's actually reserved and full for the night (why ask us then?). We sat down and got our menus, then the waitress took our orders. I got the New York steak and lobster for a substantial 40$+tax which came with a soup and house salad. To start off, the soup was absolutely awful, it tasted like warm water with salt. The salad was really plain as well and flooded with salad dressing. Then comes the main... Absolutely horrendous presentation... Did I really pay 40$ for this? Ok, I understand this is a teppanyaki style restaurant, but they can at least make an effort to make a 40$ plate presentable! The cooking for the steak and lobster were ok, however it was drenched with the teriyaki sauce which kind of ruined it too. Also the waitress was nowhere to be found after she delivered our food. She didn't even do a food-check and I had to get up and go to the counter to pay. This restaurant does not care for its customer service at all and I will never come back.

I strongly suspect MSG in the food. Would not recommend unless people in your party are drunk and /or have never tried hibachi. In which case, there are episodes of The Simpsons and How I Met Your Mother to fill you in on the protocol.

Upon arrival at exactly the time of our reservation, we were left in the lobby for 20 minutes with no staff member coming and giving us an update on when our table would be ready. Finally we were sat down and although we had 8 in our party, two other random people were sat at our table. In a COVID situation, that wasn’t appreciated. Finally the chef arrives but he repeatedly mis-timed the cooking. He started out cooking the filet mignon for a couple of people in our party and then let it sit and get cold while he cooked the NY Steaks for other members of our party. After that he let the NY Steaks get cold (and the Filet get colder) while he finished cooking the shrimps for all of us. Oh and the vegetables, which went on the grill first, we’re sitting on the grill the entire time. At this point, he still wanted us to wait until he cooked the noodles before he wanted to give us any of our food. However we insisted on getting at least the meat but had to point out that we hadn’t any sauces. So we ate the meat cold. Oh and let’s not forget how he magically ended up with an extra plate with some meat, shrimp and vegetables. A plate that belonged to no one at our table. So not only did he mess up the cooking, he also messed up on the splitting of the food. I have had Teppanyaki at multiple restaurants in multiple cities and this is by far the worst experience I’ve had. This was supposed to be the celebration for my best friend achieving a major life’s ambition but it was an unmitigated disaster.

There is nothing more typical Japanese than this! The food is amazing, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful and the service is super friendly. We ate tons while chatting with our chef (yes, you have your very own that cooks right at your table:) they also put on quite a fire show) about his country and culture. We had a great time with great people! I'm definitely coming back after Covid. Such a warm and welcoming place <3 ありがとうございます!

Here's my take with Edoko. I opted for the teppanyaki grill option with a group of friends. The food was good, but very westernized in the sense the cook with loads of butter, oil and teriyaki sauce - too much of those three particular ingredients mind you, to the point my plate had a pool of liquid. It should be noted that you should NOT wear anything you value, the oils and butter on the grill will go all over your clothes and it will smell and stain. Here's the two reasons I knocked down two stars: 1) We asked for the lamb to be cooked medium rare and it was cooked medium. 2) We asked for the samurai steak to be cooked rare and it was cooked medium-well. For the price we're paying, you'd figure they can at least cook the food as requested. Would I go back? No.

Had my brother inlaw and wife over for the weekend and decided to go there...the Asian server (with glasses) was outright rude and lacked public skills...as she served us like she was doing us a favour...the chef Eugene was great and he did well with the food and he was good company...it was way too expensive for the service we got...told the manager about the rude staff ..but his response was not very reassuring...not goin there ever and won't advice any1 to go there...unless maybe the server is fired...

A birthday supper. Following Covid protocols closely. Asked for proof of vaccination and ID. Quick to serve, friendly, great show at the hot table, delicious food and I will be back. The hallway downstairs and women's washroom need some TLC. Loved the Japanese ice tea and the food was so good I left an empty plate.???? Adding a note: parking after 5 on the street or a lot right across the street (clearly noted with a sign)

Only pro: Phone etiquette and making reservation was easy enough I will never return here. Terrible customer service and terrible food. 1. There were 2 french girls in front of us and they ignored them (didn't greet them or us) to seat me and my family of 4 first (we had reservation at the dinner table, not teppanyaki). 2. Sake tastes diluted and weird after taste 3. We had 2 servers. One older more experienced server and a younger server The younger server delivered a tempera appetizer by mistake to our table and said it was "free". My family and I ate it. Then the older server came over and said these exact words "The tempera was delivered to you by accident..... so would you mind paying for it?" This unprofessional to ask your custo.er to pay for something they did not order when someone else said it was free. 4.Filet mignion is cut up into chunks. So the rare steak that my family ordered was basically cooked. 5. For a $48 dish, you wouldn't expect your filet mignon to be cut up into chunks on an overcrowded plate mixed with noodles and the veggies. There was no Presentation of the dish. It looked like a home cooked meal. 6. Food is bland or over salted. I got the sashimi dinner and it didnt taste fresh but slimy. 7. Did not say thank you as we left.

Bad food experience close to the NAC. People are nice but they do not seem to speak fluent English. Food is too greasy and they did not seem to care to receive our feedback. Anyway... I hope they choose their ingredients better and prepare them more naturally.
