The food here was fantastic. The shawarma and falafel were the best we have ever had. The steak and hummus were very good as well. The owner was very friendly and talked with us quite a bit. The place was slow, but it is winter in Orillia. The baklava was also very good. I will be back to eat here if I am in the area.

Quite aside from waiting more than an hour for our dinners and ordering an expensive special, we agreed that this was possibly the worst meal we had ever encountered in a restaurant. The lamb was tough and the Moroccan chicken tasteless, clustered around glutinous couscous. Stay away from this place.

After moving from Toronto back to Muskoka I have to admit the lack of shawarma was devastating. However, it seems that (good) shawarmas are slowly making their way north. This place was great, had the chicken shawarma plate. Staff were pleasant and the chef was out talking to customers checking in with them. Prices were not bad at all. Food was amazing. Hummus is delicious, the reviews did not lie! I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you are in Orillia.

We visited in July 2021 during a short stay in Orillia. The food here was rather good, tried the falafel and it was well prepared and service was quick. We had two kids with us and one adult meal was enough for them to split and it was all reasonably priced as well.

The owner is a chef from Egypt trained in French Cuisine. He is passionate about the quality of the food and will not compromise on getting the best ingredients. The artistry he brings to the food is truly great. I never realized the heights to which Shawarma could be brought; the taste was rich, but the subtlety of each carefully chosen flavour sparkled with nuance. Here you get gourmet sensibilities in a friendly and comfortable environment. Highly recommend.

Amazing meal and service from Sam at Sanafir. The menu is fantastic with most all of your mediteranian cuisine favorites avialable. The taboullet salad was out of this world and the moroccan chicken and swarma plate were both perfectly prepared and delicious. Generous portions all around but more than anything Sam is a great host and takes personal pride in every dish. Quality of the food will certainly meet and exceed your expectations. We will definitely be back again real soon!

This is the best place to buy hummus from. It is to die for. Since I have eaten here I am unable to buy hummus from a grocery store anymore. The owner (Sam) and staff are very friendly and welcoming. It’s awesome that Sam came from the back to check on us, on his own accord; to make sure we enjoyed everything he cooked for us. The staff are very easy to talk to and informative of everything on the menu. The decor and music make the restaurant feel exotic. The whole experience of this restaurant takes you to a totally new world. Keep up the awesome work and amazing food!!!!

Went in yesterday for lunch. Had shawarma wrap and shawarma poutine. No , not both for me! Outstanding food and service. Met the chef who is very personable and knowledgeable. Dessert- tiramisu, the best I have ever had. Going back soon . By the way, very nice ambiance and tasteful decor. Quiet and appropriate background music. One can enjoy a conversation. I came in early, when now other guests where there yet. Since this restaurant was new to me, I asked all kinds of questions. All of them were answered. The food was awesome, and the dark Marrocaan (? ) beer was really good and tasty. The only thing that I did not like, that you can not get a lunch menu on weekends and have to order of the supper menu at lunch time on weekends. A sidewalk patio makes for a good view and fresh air in the summer, and a garagedoor wall, opens up the whole restaurant front. It's a nice style decor inside, which invites to just waste some time and have another one.

We went for a patio beer the afternoon before my brother's wedding and on-the-fly ordered the falafel platter and the chicken platter — it was so good I could cry. It was the best falafel I've ever been served and the owner was so kind and funny. He made a big deal congratulating my brother and brought the food out hot and quickly. Ridiculously good service.

Loved this place! We received a warm welcome & some of the best Mediterranean food we've ever had. Hummus & baba ganoush were packed with flavor. Kebabs & platter were phenomenal, plus some heavenly baklava. Can't wait to return!

I had the Moroccan Chicken and my partner had the Chicken Schwarma and both were delicious. The chef came out to check on the tables after they had eaten. Everything but the pita bread was great.

A quiet restaurant, very easy to miss due to the busy and happening Mariposa Market next door. It's lovely inside, nice ambiance, friendly chef/owner, and good food. Had the lamb platter which came with roasted potatoes and a vegetable medley. Also had the falafel platter with hummus, pita triangles, and a lentil mushroom ragout. Light flavours but well cooked ad presented. Prices are more than the other restaurants in the area but it's probably the only middle Eastern restaurant in the area and is definitely unique.

I had my first experience at Sanafir Mediterranean Restaurant last night and it was a very pleasant surprise. My date and I stumbled across the restaurant because it looked a lot less jam packed then another restaurant further up so we decided to give it a shot. We were given our choice of seating. The waitress took our order in timely fashion, and although there was no drink menu to select from, the waitress ( we didn't unfortunately get her name) was quite helpful and knowledgeable of the selection they had available of wines and beer selections. I chose the morrocon chicken entree and my date chose the shawarma platter which included shawarma type mixture placed with pita bread to pair + a bowl of basmati rice- with a side of an AMAZING side garden/Greek type salad, we shared it but the waitress was kind enough to let us know the secret ingredient in the dressing. Overall for the price of the entrees+ beers, the pricing was about standard to any other restaurant you would go to. The owner of the restaurant was also very personable and chatted with us for a few moments and was very pleased we enjoyed our meals. I would definitely go back to try more of the menu for lunch or dinner, OR dessert because we were too full to try dessert this time around. I definitely recommend the place and believe it will continue to become more popular once the nice weather hits as the owner says he has a patio to open up.

Visited this place during thanksgiving trip to Orillia with family for dinner, fully masked and showed proof of being fully vaccinated and with photo Id’s. My daughter who is also fully vaccinated, does not have any Id other than Canadian passport and as I offered to show that on the phone, since we were not carrying passports for the weekend trip, we were told to leave. We were disappointed but obliged and walked out without a word, as the children were upset and hungry. While we were on the road and contemplating where to eat, the chef and owner Samir Hanna came outside the restaurant and started telling us off, without allowing me to explain that we all were fully compliant as regards COVID rules, such as being masked and fully vaccinated and had photo Id’s except for one child who had copy of Canadian passport, as ID. We were appalled and disgusted with his rude, offensive and condescending attitude. The children also did not feel like eating in a place where they were disrespected and had been asked to leave just because one child was not carrying a physical passport but had a copy of the same. I have no clue why the owner decided to actually come outside and yell at us after we had walked out and were on the roadside. This was a blatant display of intimidation, and harassment. We would have considered putting up a complaint if we were residents of Orillia and were living there long term. Surprisingly, we were allowed to dine in at 3 top rated restaurants on the same street, over the next 2 days of our stay in Orillia and the same passport copy was accepted as proof of ID for my child. If there was an option to give this business less than a star, I would do so. We have never experienced such discourteous, uncouth and crude demeanour especially from a restaurant chef/owner in all our years as Canadian citizens, in Canada. Perhaps it is just the culture.

In Orillia, there are not many Mediterranean restaurants around, so I chose Sanafir to get my cravings on. I ordered the usual Shawarma, and a platter version of it which came with garden salad and some rice. It was excellent. The food was to exceptional quality, and I absolutely loved the taste of the two menu items I had. They were of decent portion size as well. The interior of the restaurant was dark but quaint. However, it did get a bit expensive. Even though they do take-outs, I would classify this restaurant as a bit more high-end, and as a college student, I cannot see myself eating here even once a week. But if you can afford it, it's stellar food in the heart of downtown Orillia.

4* for the falafel. They are the best I've ever had! It comes with tahini/hummus that has a nice acidic taste to it, along with what they call a "lentil and mushroom ragu" which is really just some tasty lentils. 1* The shawarma was terrible. Meat felt a little slimy and the whole dish overall was very bland. I hope this was just a one time situation. 5* They are celiac friendly and have a separate fryer for the falafels and most of their items are gluten free! The owner is very proud of his food and is very accommodating.

Visited recently for the first time and would go back again. Shared the Fattoush Salad & Baba Ganoush to start. Salad was delicious and a very generous portion. Owner / Chef offered a few vegetarian options for me to try so I opted to for a potato & chickpea stew with rice which was very flavourful. Finished the meal by sharing an order of Baklava. The owner / chef talked us out of ordering a Baklava each as he said the portion was very generous and he was right! Had a lovely meal & catch up with a friend. Very enjoyable meal.

First time here. Was treated with great service, food (chicken) was hot, well cooked, tender and delicious, and a generous portion. I could not finish it all and brought some home. Food presentation was beautiful. Met some long time customers, that is always nice to see a business connecting with their community and patrons. Lots of free parking in the area and located on popular street that is minutes walking to the waterfront or other shopping delights. Love that Sanafir is in the area and will take my friends for lunch and dinner here. Great little spot. Life is Good! :)

I had my first steak in over a year at Sanafir and it was scrumptious: cooked medium rare, tender, tasty, lean and much larger than expected. It came with generous sides of mixed vegetables and potatoes. I sampled my wife's Morrocan chicken and it was divine. No wonder Sanafir gets top reviews. It deserves them.

This place is overrated. Based on the reviews, we decided to go there. We ordered three foods and one appetizer. The steak was the worst we had ever had. The chicken kebab and morrocon chicken was below normal. Baba ghanoush from loblaws are more delicious than what they served. The bread was stale. The restaurant was dirty and warm with so many flies around our food. Their service was below normal. Don’t recommend this place to any one.

Absolutely, without question, the most delicious and flavourful mediterranean food we’ve ever had. Chef definitely has a palate! Deep, rich flavours with beautifully balanced spices. We shared the hummus, baba ganoush, Sanafir salad and tabbouleh salad. Then we had the shawarma platter and the falafel platter. Service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be going back, again and again. Perfect stop on the way to and from the cottage.

We ordered steak, Moroccan chicken, and Baba Ganoush. The food was amazing. We loved the ambience of the restaurant and we could tell a lot of effort was put into making it authentic. Had a great conversation with the owner and we could tell he's very passionate about good food and the service industry in general. I will definitely go back next time I'm in town.

Sanafir has become our favourite restaurant. It’s always delicious & more then filling. Everything tastes fresh. The atmosphere is cozy and clean. The service is quick and friendly. The menu is small but every dish is amazing which makes it hard to choose your order. I don’t often make recommendations to restaurants, but this is a place I always bring my company. I have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant.

I will return here to give it a second try, but first try was not spectacular. Had the feel of a diner....that was trying out 'new food'. Ambiance was lacking. Food arrived looking like it had been hastily microwaved. And the wilted baklava told a sad story. I think this place will hum in the warm months. But to have the waiter (who really did belong in a diner) check her watch when we walked in was a direct sign of being unwelcome. I was looking forward to something as elevated as rustica across the street. I've revised my expectations downward but will go back a second time...hopefully it will be improved.

Went as a family of 5, one kid wanted to try it as he thought it looked interesting but the others were slightly nervous about finding food they would eat. Server was great, the chef stopped by while we were ordering and agreed to make 2 of them fresh burgers (on lunch menu but we were there for dinner) In the end, not a morcel left on any plate and we are all want to go back soon.

On an extremely busy Friday night, with a limited but friendly staff, service was understandably slow. The Jazz Byrds did a great job of entertaining until our food was served; hot and delicious. The tabboule salad was what I was craving and it was excellent.

We were looking for a place to have lunch in Orillia. As we drove along Mississauga Ave my wife pointed a Mediterranean restaurant Sanafir. A quick Google gave us the high rating so we did a u-turn. we were welcomed at the entrance and guided to our table by a bubbly hostess. we found a table near the patio to get best of beautiful outdoors and a bit of shelter from direct sunlight. we ordered the chicken Sharma, falafel with pita bread and lentils. the food was fabulous. we love well cooked food and this hit the mark. And to top it off the prices were rrasonable - we certaknly got our moneus worth. Sam the chef/owner came out and chatted with us a bit about his background and why his food is different. we highly revommend Sanafir if you want real food from mediterrean.

This place has the best halal steak I have had that I did not have to pre-order. I had the Egyptian 5 spice steak and my partner had the Moroccan chicken. Both were delicious! But let's talk about the steak. Everyone I know who has had non-halal steaks before, and then went exclusively halal know that if you want to good halal steak you gotta pre-order, at least in and around Toronto. But apparently not in Orillia! They know how to cook it too. I ordered medium rare assuming like all halal steakhouses (at least the ones I been to and paid more than here) they will overcook it but they were on point and had send it back get it to a medium. The service was great too!

Who knew? The best Middle Eastern restaurant in Toronto is in...Orillia! Tastiest falafel nuggets I have ever had. Moroccan chicken was so good we kept eating way after we were full. We spent a weekend in Orillia, but I would drive up there to this restaurant for lunch.

Decided to visit sanafir about a week ago and was pleasantly surprised at how great it was. Food was amazing, service was great and atmosphere was also really nice. The owner is a great guy who's super friendly and you can tell he really cares about the customers. I had the shawarma plate and tiramisu for dinner. Deffinitly will be going back it was all just amazing!
