I'm gonna go ahead with 5 stars for this place not just for the pleasant surprise of a really welcoming and comfortable place but the overall experience was really top-notch. Started with a charcuterie board which really was pretty amazing. A tad shy on bread...and lots of grapes but, what... No olives!? Our waitress (Terri) quickly solved both of those mini-problems. I had a smoked meat sandwich and my colleague had a seafood appy. Outstanding! Both dishes were devoured! MY new favourite Orillia go-to spot. Other establishments in the area maybe want to send some secret shoppers in to see how it's done!! Loved to see the chef come out and explain (or try to) his techniques to some foodie wannabees...but it's the little things! Well done~!!
Update: Gonna take back two of those 5 stars based on tonight's visit. There was us (a table of 2) and one other table of 4-6. First of all, what happened to the menu?? This new menu is small, pretentious and expensive. Nothing on this menu appealed to me, not only for the prices but the selection itself. I settled on the balsamic glazed chicken breast for 24 bucks. The 4 olives and meagre bread serving was good (heated olives! Who-da thunk it) There was little to no balsamic anything about the chicken. Although it was cooked really well, it was really, really tiny. It is served airline style (google airline chicken breast) with rapini and polenta. The rapini is notoriously bitter, but this seemed to a fault. The polenta was good but I still left hungry after my meal, which is a first for me here. Given the crowd, or lack thereof, I’m gonna guess that I’m not the only one that feels a tad disappointed. On the positive side of things, the other guest at my table loved his del Mar, although one of the clams on his dish was unopened (yikes). Anyway, there’s no question the chef has game, but I will wait for more changes before I head back as there is a ton of great places to eat in Orillia these days!
Update: You're temporarily closed. PLEASE, PLEASE, start over as a decent pub. Good wings, lotsa drafts on tap, kick @as patio. Thank me later...
