This Restaurant is classified in the category of Italian restaurant.
What a pleasant surprise. Had lunch after googling nearby spots and found this gem. Fresh, delicious food in a tasteful and thoughtfully laid ou ,cozy cafe with indoor seating as well as out. Great service as well.
Remarkable in every way! Very friendly, warm come-again ambiance! Tasty, fresh, healthy plates.
What a great little place! Good food, good atmosphere, lovely staff.
I like that they have a small menu and foods were served quickly. The bad dog bread was too cold while the butter was too hard so I didn’t like it. Pastas were good, the prawns tasted very fresh. The chocolate mousse wasn’t so great. The servers are nice however they have an open kitchen and the cooks didn’t wear their masks properly. The shorter cook had his mask not cover his mouth and nose at all time while the taller cook had it on and off. There was an old man appeared to be the kitchen helper who didn’t even have a mask. I feel very uncomfortable seeing that. Hopefully the restaurant take Covid protocol more seriously
Was hyped before coming to the restaurant, cause it was fully booked the week before. And was very disappointed finishing the meal today. The pasta for a pasta house was mediocre, the biggest disappointment comes from the dessert. Lemon tart that has nothing special to it and cost 10 dollars?
This spot is unbelievable. Come eat here, and then tell no one about it because it will get too busy and we’ll all cry when we’re waiting in line for a table. Every dish we had was finished and in some cases the plates were even licked. Our must orders: - the bread with caramelized onion butter and olive tapenade - burrata with tomato and fresh pesto ???? - cauliflower fritti with lemon - pasta any of them, preferably all of them at once.
This has to be the best local restaurant food on the north shore. I have been here several times right from the day they opened. Brigette is a master hostess and the food is fresh and created with love. I love that they use products grown from their own garden. Inside and patio seating offers options based on the weather. We always love sitting in the gardens. So much to look at!
fabulous food and great service...love the very French surrounds!
Warm beautiful restaurant with a beautiful garden as the name! Passionate love in every dish! So good!!
Fresh and tasty. A little pricy but worth it. Needs a better kids option though.
Wanted to love this little cozy restaurant, but the service and food were not there yet. The restaurant is visibly overstuffed and understaffed for the number of tables they are trying to serve. Took over 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive, which is ridiculous, especially for simple pasta dishes. The lamb ragout was fine, but the carbonara was watery and lacking its signature rich texture, the squash soup just okay. The portions were uniformly small, even the overpriced and good (but not great) bread order. For the sake of North Shore dining, would love for Orto to improve and thrive.
As always, nice creative food with fresh ingredients. While remaining simple, not snooty and pleasant service.
More than 10min wait after being seated. No acknowledgment of long wait times. No blanket after being promised one and unable to seat people inside? It was cold outside. Shortstaffed with 1 waiter and 1 helper for maybe 12-13 tables? Pasta sauces were mediocre at best. Noodles were perfectly cooked. About the only good thing about the experience. We won’t be back.
Beautiful spot, outside all the tables are set-up in a garden, that they grow and use in the meals they prepare. Everything was really fresh...I had the Carbonara, and it was delicious. If you are on the fence, order the bread; the onion butter, and tapenade are so flavourful! Overall all, it was really good, however, a word to the wise, one of the people in our group wanted to order a salad, and was hoping she could add a protien, (any protien), and they checked with the Chef, and the answer was "No, all protiens are pre-portioned". Flexibility might not be their strong suite.
Beautiful outdoor garden and exceptional home grown products on their menu.
This is a gem of a restaurant. I came here expecting a good meal, but I got an excellent one instead. Great all around. I can't wait to come back.
Service
Absolutely incredible homemade food. Owner works so hard. This is a destination point if you are looking for delicious, incredible, foodie type di ing.
Amazing amazing and amazing. Just little bit pricy.
I love orto. Probably my favourite restaurant in north van. The food is always fresh with some seasonal variation to the menu. As others said it can get crowded at dinner. In the summer you can eat outside in the garden where they grow veggies and herbs. In the winter the space is cozy and the tables are close together with a european feel. I love the pastas, the appetizers, the deserts and the masterful lattes that Brigitte makes.
When I see gnocchi on a menu I order it. Orto's ricotta stuffed gnocchi is ????????????
Amazing food and friendly staff. The patio area has several raised bed gardens that grow veggies and flowers. I really enjoyed my meal there and will return when I'm in Vancouver next.
Great food, better service, the lemon tart is very rich with flavour and is to die for
Amazing thought and passion for culinary excellence. These guys are amazing.
Vancouver’s top hidden gem/best kept secret. I have mixed feelings about this because half of me wants to shout about it from the rooftops to all my friends and fellow foodies. The other half wants to keep it all to myself. There really isn’t any atmosphere or experience quite like dining at Orto. It’s so authentic, fresh, and calming. The service feels like good friends you’ve known for years and food brings you back to a blissful holiday in Tuscany. Am I going over the top? I assure you, I’m not. Try it and see for yourself- there is nothing like Orto Artisan Pasta- you’ll have to agree.
This place is a gem. All the dishes are delicious and they always have a great special on offer. The garden outside is great and it's fantastic that they grow some of their own ingredients there. The staff is very friendly and the service is good. I've been here many times with my wife and we will continue to go there many times in the future. Oh and we love to bring friend!
The gnocchi was excellent! The tomatoe tart was a bit too sweet for my taste but still very delicious.
Food is amazing, so worth it! Staff are friendly and helpful. Just a little cramped, but it's so popular they try their best to accommodate all.
As far as pasta goes on the North Shore, this is the place to go. Different flavours than the standard pasta joint.
Absolutely obsessed with this place. So glad I found it! Now I don’t need to head to Vancouver for good pasta!!
Great Food. It was perfectly cooked. Fresh ingredients. Greatest cheese ever tasted in town. The owner is very kind and made customized dish for our food restrictions. It was fully packed with people, but good COVID-19 measures taken care.
Great experience sitting in the garden patio and enjoying a top notch dinner.
Absolutely gorgeous food! The patio is charming
Everyone needs to go here once. Amazing meals! Italian with a french feel. Get a reservation and enjoy some amazing pasta dishes.
Good food, good service. Love outdoor eating space, especially the picnic tables. That make this place kid friendly. My 5 year old and his friend were happy to eat here!
Very good. It was a bit hot for pasta but I will go back for that as it looked amazing. I had a very nice salad. Very fresh and tasty. Lovely garden filled with vines of grapes and tomato plants. Lots of shade.
This hidden gem is the best restaurant on the north shore. The food is so delicious here, we've started going every other week. Yes, sometimes it's busy and you have to wait, but it's worth it! (you can also go across the street to Hearthstone and have a quick drink if you want) The staff is super friendly. The bread is amazing and everything we've had from the menu is great. Last week my husband ordered the tiramisu (which I'm not normally a fan of anywhere) and I ate half of it because it was so good. Highly recommend Orto!!!
Freshly made pasta and I feel it gets better every time. Interesting appetizers, soups and salads. Unique restaurant in location, design, food and the little vegetable garden.
Thank you so much for a wonderful dinner this evening! From the welcoming prompt service to the outstanding bread and entrées-we were blown away! What a very special spot for the North Shore!! We will be back!
Beautiful veggie and flower garden combined with gourmet food feels like home
Amazing pasta and delicious bread fresh from the Bakery. Great service. The best (richest) carbonara I've had.
Came here during my work break for some take out carbonara, was told that they don’t provide plastic cutlery anymore, so I didn’t have anything to eat at work with. The server went above and beyond and lent me a metal fork to take back to work to eat with. Food was excellent, everything is fairly priced, and like I said, service is exceptional.
Amazing dishes, the gnocchi are definitely a must try! Very friendly owners and very cute patio.
Unfortunately we have to start this review on a negative note. My girlfriend and I have been wanting to try this place for months so I booked us a reservation for Valentine’s Day. From the start, our server was pushy and rushing us to …
Meal type
Went there this past Sunday with our kids. Perfect set-up for a family of four. The picnic tables and garden area make it super easy to eat wth children. Everything we ordered was yummy. I wish the bread man was around to serve up his slice of toast with jam, butter and sea salt.
Everything is super homemade and fresh, service is great.
Slow service. Good food, but pricey. Ultimately, pasta is pasta! Beverages are expensive, including non-alcohol. A side of bread with a fancy name is $7. The place is popular and always busy, but I won't be back in a hurry.
What a gem! Tiny spot that knows how to feature the best of fresh produce and handmade products. And I love how each pasta dish had a slightly different texture and quality. Our table shared all plates ordered and we couldn't decide which was our favorite. My new favorite spot in Vancouver.
Great food and lovely atmosphere.
Lunch Good pasta and Gnocchi. Great for a casual lunch with friends or someone special.
Coming from a major foodie - this place is amazing. You definitely get what you pay for. Amazing service and experience!
Dinner was exceptional. The fresh prawns and gnocchi, burratta and tomato salad were all fresh and creamy, the liver pâté delicious. Our senses were impressed. The service was attentive and the garden felt like being in Italy. We will return over and over as it is now our favourite neighbourhood find.
Love it. Best pasta in North Vancouver. Great outside space. All fresh and home made.
Amazing food and Superb service ???? we were always curious about Orto as we walk by it daily and finally had this wonderful experience. Took us back to South of France ???????? the decor is just fabulous and the food is most definitely delicious ???? highly recommended
Great food and service
Lovely place. Fresh local ingredients, Bad Dog Bread and friendly staff. ????????
Great pasta, nice casual vibe, nothing fancy....but it all adds up to being just right.
Strongly recommend for North Shore residents! First visit for Wednesday dinner today. It was small but cozy, and the owners (husband and wife I think) are very welcoming. I sat down at 6pm, and it was somewhat quiet, and it got really busy and loud by 7pm. It got so busy that it took a while for us to get the bill and pay at the end. Food was great. We ordered an appetizer, a kombucha, a salad, 3 entree, and a tiramisu for dessert. The portion was okay. An appetizer, dessert, and 2 of the 3 entrees we ordered was amazing (crab ravioli & spaghetti with white wine sauce & clam). The carbonara was a bit too salty for my taste. If you live in north shore and you don't want to deal with the traffic going out to Vancouver, this is the hidden gem on the north side.
Stopped in for The Trio, a soup, salad and sandwich combo that was perfect for a cold, wet day!
Authentic feeling mom and pop Italian joint with decent portion sizes and quality. Homey and comfy feel inside
Although most reviews here are positive, sadly, that was not our experience. Too bad too, as we had been very much looking forward to a Covid-friendly night out on the restaurant's charming outdoor patio. I try to eat pretty healthy and a bowl of pasta is a relatively special occasion thing for me. Imagine my surprise when DEEP-FRIED hearts of artichoke appeared amongst my gnocchi. Yuck! This would not have been much of a problem if it was advertised as such on the menu, but it was not. I have never, ever seen anything deep-fried in a bowl of pasta. My Italian grandparents are turning over in their grave right now. With most of the meat dishes blended with pork, which I would never eat, I found precious few other options to choose from, even had I complained and sent my pasta back. I guess you win some and you lose some. We lost this one.
Everything is exceptional at lovely orto. My favorite place. Favorite people.
I wish there were more than 5 stars to rate our visit to Orto. We LOVED it. We had two servers, and they were both spectacular. One of them was this delightful French lady who had the greatest sense of humour. The food was succulent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting on a rainy night.
Delicious. Unique menu and setting. The garden made us feel at home. The eggplant cannelloni was light and flavourful. The salad inspiring and the Affogato was so delicious: Not too sweet and prepare yourself to be awake! My new favorite dessert.
I can say this place has very delicious bread variety. The the food, was awesome, definitely a good place to eat. Seating is beatiful feels like you are in the park :)
I Was Upset The Jamaican Place Before Shut Down. But This Lifted My Spirits. Nice And Cozy. The Idea Of Being In A Garden Was Very Positive. I Went To Italy aprox. 10 days after, and it was close to as good as some of the pasta in italy. The Food Was Fresh And Very Flavourful, and a great location
#wildporkpapadelle #tiramisu such delicious and tasty Italian classics and wonderful for a cold day in north Vancouver! Would recommend to all visitors like me to try it when in Vancouver! No regrets at all!
This restaurant is the real deal and a total gem; the pasta is fresh, sauce is homemade, and you can tell there is care and attention in everything they do. I have now visited twice, and both visits were phenomenal, both with the food and service. I also love sitting in the garden patio, as it is just perfect for summer. Highly recommend for a lovely lunch or dinner.
2nd anniversary celebration at Orto Artisan Pasta - thanks inviting us Bridgette ????????
Went for a family style dinner for a table of 12. We couldn't finish it all. Lots of bread, share plates and mountains of hand made pasta and sauces. Friendly and patient staff. Great dinner that night
Small place with friendly, warm decor and very tasty dishes. Pastas, gnocchi, soups, salads. There is a bakery on site as well.
Have been here twice and both times the food was amazing I recommend the tart with tomatoes goat cheese and Basil its is amazing , the pasta is very fresh and tasty . Its a little on the expensive side but the food is so fresh and the outside sitting area is lovely and friendly staff . Recommend you check this little gem out .
This is the BEST restaurant on the North Shore. Fantastic food and service
Tiny little unpresuming place, found it on google after finishing a hike. Food was worthy of the ratings.
Nice place with patio in a garden! Lovely ❤️
Amazing pasta! Fresh and homemade...and the salad is a burst of flavours. Try the octopus and italian sausage pasta, sooooo good. And you must try the lemonade coconut lavender drink, refreshing and so delicious. Owner is very friendly and accomodating too...we had our friend's bday party at their beautiful outdoor yard last week.
The ambiance is relaxed, French country - as if you’re eating at someone home. An open kitchen. I wouldn’t hesitate to come to this restaurant alone and sit at the bar to watch the kitchen action. The meals were so delicious and very well priced. The service was spot on (attentive without being ingratiating). Also, we could actually here each other talk, not because the restaurant was quiet, but because we weren’t battling with music. I’ll definitely be back.
I love going to this restaurant. The food is top quality, and they have a beautiful patio!
Such a beautiful little place. The food is always amazing and prices are reasonable for the quality of service. Always happy to come back.
Small, unpretentious restaurant with a family-run feel. Service is friendly. Food is fresh and well prepared. It’s a 4.5 star place, since the food was good but not amazing, but you can’t assign 1/2 stars here. And it’s better than 4 stars.
Had a very nice meal here. Food was delicious and fresh. A very cozy place and reservations are probably a good idea as the joint is hopping. Nice staff with good knowledge of wine and menu. If you love pasta then you definitely want to check this place out!!
gem on north shore.. great taste with reasonable price tag.. must return!!
Absolutely fantastic restaurant . Feels like your walking into your old family cottage. They like to cram ya in there like a can of sardines but once ya get passed that. The most amazing wine. The most amazing service. The most amazing menu. The most amazing tasting food. The menu is always changing seasonally. They have a great specials at any time. The place is always really busy so expect a wait. Even with a reservation expect to wait. The price was a small bit on the high side. All in all beautiful hidden spot. Can’t wait to return.
Amazing food and service. Simple and approachable wine list. Would recommend this place to anybody. Thank you!!
What an amazing Brunch! We arrived just after 1PM and the place was packed but Brigitte found us a table by the window. My Omelette was so incredibly fluffy and delicious, served with a superb totally fresh salad with a nice dressing. My Partner's Pasta Bolognese looked wonderful! (I had a taste). Of course I recommend this place but in a way don't want to since in the future, one might have to book days in advance just to get in! Just fantastic, Brigitte and your crew!
Was pleasently surprised to find this cute hole in the wall in North Van. The place felt very homey and the service was personal and great. I got the gnocchi with wild mushrooms and it was delicious! The gnocchi was very tender and hand made. The chanterelles we're a great addition for the dish. The sauce was also very well made.
Amazing experience. Fantastic garden when the weather is nice, and it was. Very friendly staff. But above all is the quality of the food. We enjoyed every moment. Highly recommended!
Excellent pasta. Good vibes to the place, which was very busy. Pasta dish was excellent.
Our foreman hosted our crew at Orto Artisan Pasta over the holidays. We had a great table that seated 8 of us well and the servers were exceptional! We were able to share stories, have a few laughs and enjoy lots of delicious food and drink! I was impressed with the quality from start to finish! I'm told they make the bread on site using a stone mill! Antipasto, cheeses, meats, salad, pasta and dessert were all top-notch! Nice to find a family run restaurant that cares!!! Thanks!
Amazing family community vibes, great community place, delicious Italian food with French flare. Waiting to come back)
Delicious food. Amazing waitress! Cozy atmosphere.
we've come twice, everything has been good here so far. edit: we have now come a lot more than twice. it's probably our favourite restaurant on the north shore.
I came here with my family for a nice dinner. We ordered the bolognese and I was thoroughly disappointed with the shocking lack of flavor. I would recommend the restaurant to include more spices as an option with their meal. Great service though!
Best artisan pasta ever, delicious worth the drive my wife and I took from new west to eat there.
Delicious, interesting recipes, fresh ingredients, originally and beautifully presented with attentive and friendly service. Tasty dinner starting with mushroom soup (whipped and creamy, generous portion, served perfectly heated along with warm, crusty yet soft bread by Bad Dog Bakery) and crab cake (hot, crisp, crabby without being bready) served with greens and a surprising chartreuse lightly spicy aioli. Our entrees were equally generous in portion, exceptional in flavour and perfect in temperature. Wild boar pasta--wow! Pisaladierre (onion, olive and anchovie tart) served with a gorgeous simple salad. We will definitely return. Recommended! Hoping to witness the atmosphere uplifted with improved lighting and an entryway to mitigate the cold draft from outside. Still, we love the family/homey/caring/simple feel of the place.
Elevated level of cuisine from a friendly and knowledgeable staff, and in a wonderful ambiance surrounded by the vegetable gardens!
Great fresh rustic bread made naturally with in house milled flour
Fantastic pasta made on site. Local bread sold by Bad Dog milled the previous day and baked the next. Fantastic kombucha. This cute little restaurant is a must-visit in North Vancouver.
Really fresh, delicious food and very good service. Amazing patio that feels like dining in a garden.
Fresh, wonderful food. Service just needs to find a rhythm now that the crowds have arrived.
Beauty spot, authentic menu and experience. Delicious food!
All their food is fresh and bought from a locally sourced farm. Not mention their food taste amazing
Excellent service. Good food, nice place. We'll be back
Fabulous lunch. Great Italian food. Bridgette and her team are great.
Pasta so heavenly it would terrify Lucifer! I (and my taste buds) enjoyed the seafood pasta. Friday nights fill up - so reservation recommended.
This is an outstanding small Italian joint on the north shore. The service is always friendly and prompt even when the place is jammed. The pasta is always fresh and delicious and they have a nice wine and beer menu as well.
What a Fantastic Place for a Romantic Dinner in the Outdoor Garden or a family cozy meal inside. The food is AMAZBALLS - lovely people and superb service! Thank you so much. Worth the trip to North Vanc from the West Side!
Nice garden sitting, perfect for a dinner day. The service was attentive. The bread from Bad Dog came with three dippings was all good. We had three different pasta dishes, everyone was delicious. Good tiramisu and coffee to finish the meal
Great food. Lots of love, laughter and an overall, wonderful experience.
After months of COVID 19 restrictions we finally were able to eat at Orto. This is our favorite restaurant and it did not disappoint. This is a unique experience and is not pretending to be an Italian restaurant using your old Italian mother’s recipes. Everyone’s Italian mother has a different recipe for Italian dishes. To the Italian diner that complained about the Carbonara, it may not be to your taste but it is not completely wrong for my taste. Also, I found the hygiene to be just fine and have no complaints. We will definitely be back.
Just stunning setting and food. There arent enough high quality, simple restaurants in the area.
Double check your bill! Was overcharged on desserts but only discovered after we'd left. Otherwise excellent experience
Great food and atmosphere. Loved it.
Amazing food, amazing staff and amazing place ! I recommend the gnocchi and the beef carpaccio.
Waiter did not wear a mask. When he brought my meal out, his thumb was basically in my pasta. The dessert was inedible. Will not be returning.
This restaurant is everything but a real Italian place: there are many fixed recipes with wrong ingredients, and a very different taste from the original Italian dish. The Tagliolini Carbonara were completely wrong; and also the espresso coffee was definetely too long and tasteless. In addition, it is expensive and the hygiene is not proper to this pandemic times. Last but not least, the heater next to the outdoor tables was not working, and we were chilling all the time. Avoid it.
While waiting for our bread at Bad Dog bread, we decided to have a refreshment at this modest but awesome little restaurant. The menu is simple but the food is fantastic. Service can improve (no spoon with a fresh fruit sangria?)..but definitely a place to come back. Small, house made and good is not easy to find !
Outstanding pastas. Very busy, but worth it.
I can't say enough. The food is great. The ambience was very Mediterranean (felt like we were in Italy or South of France) specially the garden. The owner is a very sharp French lady and seems super hospitable. We loved our experience and will be back. Thank you
This quaint little establishment is defined by its offerings of exceptional pasta creations. The added bonus being that the staff are delightfully friendly. Once experienced, this restaurant will become a go to destination for those seeking all that is good !
Great food, excellent fun staff
This is a busy, small place thats is quaint with lost of graet dishes. The pasta is made fresh on site everyday and Bad Dog Bread makes is made fresh every morning. Its family run and on Saturday night they were all there serving and keeping all the customers entertained. This is a hidden secret that is quickly getting out. Can’t wit to come back and try some of the other amazing looking dishes.
The atmosphere here is spectacular. Authentic, like being on a patio in Tuscany with the food and staff to match. Their garden is overwhelmingly beautiful, with fresh veggies and herbs that you see chefs cut and use in all their dishes. I particularly love all their salads and their spaghetti with heirloom tomatoes. This place has never failed to excite my palate and the staff are warm, like family. Orto is a hidden gem with tons of locals and the best bakery on the north shore on the inside. Organic, homemade, delicious.
Small menu but finely prepared food and thoughtfully crafted ideas for the menu. Plus a Chefs garden and they make their own pasta!
I had an amazing birthday dinner here with my boyfriend. The quality is always top notch, the atmosphere is welcoming and kind. The ambience and food of Orto takes me to my best memories of Europe. This is my go to restaurant on the north shore. I will be back very soon!
I loved it here! Yummy food, great atmosphere!
What a Fantastic Place for a Romantic Dinner in the Outdoor Friendly service, . Great taste with reasonable price the pasta is fresh Food is fresh and well prepared. I highly Recommend this place
Main courses are animals I’m unable or choose not to eat. I was advised these were the only ingredients the kitchen had? After finding out if anything else can be done, they came back with a “vegetarian” plate that was slapped together using whatever they already had for the main courses. It ended up tasting like a big plate of salt I couldn’t finish. This place is not accommodating to people’s dietary requirements.
Gnocchis were amazing! Pasta are home made and fresh. All products are from local producers / farms. If you're a foodie and appreciate great food, you'll love it ????????
We’ve dined here twice, for lunch and dinner. It was exquisite each time. Planning on going back tomorrow night
Really great pasta and super comfortable rustic kitchen vibe. Good selection of wines at reasonable prices. Great place to go with friends and family.
Excellent people take time to eat at this place if there were 6 stars well I think you get my drift C YA
Annoyed from the start. I am used to having spacing at restaurants since covid, and at Orto I felt crowded in, with the server hovering over us WITHOUT a mask. When serving me my food, the servers fingers were almost in it. Also, he consistently prompted us to order quickly, as the kitchen staff was busy, so we did. Ended up waiting forever for our meals anyway! The food, when it finally came was mediocre, at best, and the dessert, a so called apricot crumble was inedible. We had a plate of gnocchi-they deep fried it-disgusting.The red wine was even hot! Just terrible-we will never go to this restaurant again! What the hypes, I have no idea.
Great little restaurant using quality ingredients and housemade products. Service is fantastic and really reminds me of dining in a small bistro in Europe. Highly recommend
Written for my mother-in-law and friends. They ordered a desert and coffee from the posted menu but were charged $10 a piece for the desserts ($3 above the posted price), tiny portions and no exceptional taste experience. Rather than post a public review, I stopped by to speak to the owner directly thinking as a small business owner, they would prefer this. Her response was aggressive and rude. She said they are trying to be like Thomas Hass. Unfortunately, our experience was high-end prices for small portions of mediocre food, and expect an attitude if there's a problem.
Awesome food. I went there yesterday and I really like their food. It was yummy. The staff members are very polite and friendly. Great customer service.
Dine in
Lovely spot in the garden ... Ladies luncheon -food was great -didn’t feel rushed Thank you ????
Lovely little garden
Best omelette I ever had. The cauliflower and the polenta appetizers are great. Well done guys
Orto is a hidden gem!! I have been here a couple of times in the past few months, everytime both the food and the service has been impeccable. While being busy it somehow manages to retain a cozy atmosphere with a relaxed environment and high end dining. The desserts are to die for!!!!
I have been to this lovely restaurant twice in the past few months, most recently for my Dad's 75th birthday. As we are located in Vancouver that speaks volumes in itself. The food is superb whether it is an appetizer, main or dessert! Fresh ingredients that are farm to table. The ambiance, cozy environment and excellent staff provide a wonderful experience. It feels like someone is opening up their home to you. If you haven't gone you must put it on your list of places to go. It is a true local gem! Can't wait to go back again.
Fantastic! Food was great, drinks were great, atmosphere and service were both fantastic. It's an excellent place to bring a date. Prices aren't too high but be careful because you will want to spend a lot.
Absolutely phenomenal! An amazing experience. Service, food, and atmosphere were all 6 ⭐️ but google only lets me give 5
Beautiful outdoor patio, tasty pasta, and good service. I appreciate that the dishes had a chefs unique touch and were not like the predictable, pre-frozen meals that are served by the big chain restaurants (you know which ones I mean). We were lucky to get a table that was somewhat isolated from the others. Not all tables were spaced out for covid. If this is a need, I would suggest reserving a table ahead of time, and let them know of your expectation.
I had a great time on the patio of this restaurant which is simply lovely! Pastas are homemade and really good quality and deserts are amazing. The staff are welcoming and friendly! Definitely a good address for any occasion ????
We loved the food here. Friendly environment and the service was excellent. Definitely coming back soon and I will recommend this place to my friends. Thank you for the extra cookies we’ve got for dessert.
We had a very pleasant lunch. Owner took extra steps to be sure I was comfortable (chronic back pain) and the food and ambience were wonderful. I had the sandwich special which was grilled to perfection, with the Bad Dog Bread made inhouse. Yummy. Location is quiet, great for conversation, overlooking the garden of edibles is unique and calming.
This restaurant never seems to disappoint. I don't think there's a single bad dish here, and Brigitte really takes a lot of care to make sure every customer feels special. You can tell there is a real love and pride in the food. Definitely worth a visit.
Awesome family run restaurant. Love the food and love the service.
Freshly made pasta, good sauces, very good desserts, and some interesting great tasting appetizers. Nice cozy location and great service.
Hands down the best meal I've had in the Greater Vancouver Area. Unbelievably fresh and flavourful. All conversation ceased after we had our first bite. From then until we finished, it was a chorus of "mmmm"s. So. Ridiculously. Good.
Decent homemade pasta and sauce, but quite overpriced. The sizes and contents of the pasta portions make you wonder what you're paying for. Slow service, but it seemed mostly due to understaffing. During a slow time it took well over 30 minutes to get main courses and another 30 minutes to get the bill after completion of the meal. The bread(from the attached bakery) was delicious.
Delicious and great staff. Sitting in the garden is perfect. Highly recommend this place. Family style sharing food. Get a reservation.
Really great spot, we sat out in the garden and it was beautiful. Awesome bread and fresh made pasta. Can't wait to go back.
Wow. We have lived 600 metres from this place and didn’t know it was there. This is a wonderful place for a nice salad, pasta, wine or desert. It is small and a reso would be a good idea which you can do right here on google. Our food came hot and delicious and I seriously considered a second dish. Can’t wait to go again!
This is an awesome place! We sat out in the garden under an umbrella, it was a perfect place to have brunch. The service was great, the food was great and so was the setting. You should go there, you are missing out of you don't!!
5 star food, service and overall experience. Very well priced wine list. Definitely going to be back.
After covid changed our big wedding plans we decided to do a low key wedding with immediate family only. Brigitte and her team were amazing, we had a wonderful evening dinning out side on their deck. The food was amazing And there was so much of it that everyone had their fill of wonderful food! We couldn’t recommend this place anymore it was incredible! Thank you so much Brigitte and the team!
I have recently eaten several times at the mother and son run restaurant, Orto. In these times of social distancing, their large covered patio area is much appreciated. There are always interesting and delicious salads on the menu as well as well as omelette specials at lunch and a roasted meat special at dinner for the carb averse, but if you go, have the pastas and the bread - they are truly next level. The menu changes often and is focused on local, farm to table recipes. It is kept small and manageable but never feels too small. Their tiramisu was also surprisingly delicious and recently a pineapple mint sorbet was a smash hit.
This restaurant is super overrated. My hunch for why it is so popular is simply the pretty dining space. In actuality, the quality of the food is extremely mediocre. Yes, the pasta is cooked well and is well-made. However the sauces are just boring. Overall, way too over-priced. Moreover, the service is bad. The servers themselves are wonderful. BUT the restaurant needs to hire more of them because they cannot keep up. For instance, there was a line out the door because they overbooked their reservations, we had to wait an additional ten minutes. The servers did not ask us if the meal was good until we were halfway through our meal. The servers did not bring pepper, salt, or even PARMESAN. We had to ask. Also, most other italian restaurants serve complimentary bread. That would be a nice touch, instead of charging 9 dollars...
Delicious food and great service. Small cozy restaurant and everything is made fresh in their little kitchen.
A delicious pasta dinner last Tuesday.
The atmosphere was just lovely! It was like sitting in your aunt's garden on a summer's Eve. Surrounded by plants and herbs and lights! It was wonderful! Wonderfully, the food was every bit as awesome as the atmosphere and more importantly it felt light and fresh, as thought the ingredients were picked from the garden you were sitting in (which is by all means possible). To complete the trifecta, the service was great too! Very nice and friendly, prompt and helpful! Would I go back? Absolutely. Without a doubt. Yes, this is a raving review!
Food is good as always, service can be slow and a little rude
Lovely setting and fantastic fresh food. However, service was extremely slow at every single point (long time to get menus, long time before our order was taken, long time before anyone checked up on us, etc), even though the restaurant was not busy. Kitchen was extremely loud - it didn't seem to occur to anyone that with the open kitchen, care should be taken not to be overly loud. Will definitely return in the hopes that the service has improved.
Orto is fantastic! It is the only place our small business team gathers for amazing meals and atmosphere. I highly recommend!
The outdoor dining works well, when it's warm enough, and is far enough off Marine Drive that you will be away from the noise and traffic. Service was very good and cheerful and we didn't wait long for drinks or food to arrive. The Broccolini Bagna Cauda had plenty of crunch in the greens and had a tasty and bold flavour in the dressing. The Casarecce was full of flavour. The pasta was al dente which really suited this disk and the lime under tones made the meat sauce delicious from first mouthful to the last. The special which was twisted ravioli was also a winner. Not the biggest plates of food but I didn't go away hungry. This is not a cheap eats place but definitely worth a try if you want quality pasta dishes.
This was the first dine in restaurant we have visited since covid-19 and it was our second visit to Orto Artisan Pasta. We made a reservation for 6:30 and were asked if we wanted to dine in or on their outdoor garden/patio. It was a relatively warm June evening so we chose the patio. There was good spacing of the tables with barriers in place where required. We ordered the Green Lettuce salad which was a mixture of fresh local greens with a lemon dressing and was large enough to feed 3 or 4. This is one of the nicest salads we have ever enjoyed. We both ordered the special "Smoked salmon, clams, dill and capers spaghetti" and it was excellent with lots of clams and salmon with just enough sauce to keep everything moist. We were too full for dessert but they had a very interesting looking cheesecake with fresh local strawberries. Gary and Carolyn
“Excellent environment, friendly service, great menu choices and really decent food and at affordable prices. Will be back. “ impecable Área to dine in, good food and service and atmosphere, definitely hope to go back. Food menu changes every 2 weeks. A place to recommend and you’ll surprised what you’ll having. ????. The best part is There’s a bread store bakery next to it :).
Why can't more places be like this? I bet you the only item in the agenda at their regular meetings is: how can we keep improving the quality of our food. They have no time to discuss whether the servers should have matching uniforms or what kind of glassware best represents the restaurant, bla, bla, bla. No, thankfully all they seem to be focused on is the food they put in front of you. I am by no means saying the service is anything but great, but it's unpretentious. They are not trying to impress you with gimmicks or a flashy setting. If you are underwhelmed when you first walk in, it is probably done on purpose so your head doesn't explode with sensory satisfaction once you start to eat. If you're getting the charcuterie (I don't know why you wouldn't) get the Mozzarella di Bufala. You'll get your money's worth with the first bite and the rest is free! I am writing this review on my phone so I can't really change the formatting of the font, but if I had to summarize this place in one sentence it would be: QUALITY FOOD. With bold letters..........underlined.............three of these !.......inside a red circle. Enjoy.
Just no. I would have to say this was without a doubt the worst meal I have had in years. I will say I really liked the little garden setting, but it is very cool once the sun goes down and there are no heaters. Now to the food. Ordered the bread and tapenade. $8.00 for 5 small slices of bread and the smallest little dollop of tapenade and a little butter, not worth it. At almost every Italian restaurant that would just be brought complimentary, way over priced. Next I ordered the cauliflower, it had zero flavor and tasteless, did not even finish. For my main I had the pasta with Lamb ragu. It had no flavor no salt and the pasta was hard...NOT al dente but under cooked by a long shot. It was just bad, no one at our table like their meal.
Beautiful garden patio. Make a reservation to ensure you sit among the plants and flowers. Quite unique. Food was decent. We tried the squash blossoms and the cauliflower to start. Then followed with the clam and the heirloom tomato and basil pastas. Everything was pretty good. Will try it again.
Yummiest bread in Greater Vancouver!
Welcoming atmosphere. Delicious food..perfect sized portions. Would definitely recommend to family and friends!
One of our favorite restaurants in Vancouver. We had our Valentine dinner here, and we enjoyed the amazing food - an elegant blend of French and Italian taste with a genuine home made flair; as well, we loved the cozy atmosphere and the owner, Brigitte, always being the most gracious hostess. Don't forget to try their amazing bread!
Amazing find. Was visiting from out of town and found this gem for dinner. The pasta was delicious and fresh, perfectly cooked but still nice a hot. I loved the outdoor dinning experience in the garden, it felt very cozy and welcoming. Staff was friendly and served us very quickly even while they were hosting two larger groups for birthdays. Definitely will come back when I visit Vancouver again!
Overpriced compare to the quality. The food was so simple, nothing special, menu was not presentable, 1 hr waiting .... BUT nice and bright !
I hate writing reviews for a place I love this much, I want to be greedy and have them all to myself. Brigitte is amazing, she reminds me of all my favorite maitre d. This spot is perfect, you can get a sense of what a real restaurant should be, while still approachable and not arrogant. Food makes you close your eyes good, service is spot on. Please stay home!!
Very slow service. Ok food, but definitely overpriced for the quality/quantity. Bread its good though.
Always great food. Lovely patio. Good service.
The staff is absolutely rude. This showed up on our search as a pet friendly restaurant. When I got there and asked, the receptionist laughed at me and said no! There is no way I'm taking my business there ever.
Our meal was so so so delicious. We had the pork pate for an appy which had yummy little pickled onions and peppers which was excellent. I had the gnocchi and I don't think I've ever had better. Every taste was a bit different and to die for. My partner had the lamb pasta and it was also incredible. It's a charming little place and we will definately be going back...soon.
friendly owner and quality food in the neighbourhood.. very cozy place
Vancouver is full of good culinary addresses, some of which are true gold mines, as the fusion and quality of food is full of flavors. Here is an address of restaurants that has recently opened their doors and that you must absolutely discover to live a bistronomic Italian experience of the most tasty! I tasted a Heirloom tomato, strawberry salad, fresh burrata, basil and Tagliolini carbonara and poached egg Completely decadent and all served with just as much charm by Brigitte
Had a wonderful time, good food, friends and a charming hostess.
If you are looking for a great experience. I recommend to try this beautiful restaurant. Fresh ingredients from the garden and amazing ambience and staff.
An absolute gem I am so glad I stumbled on this restaurant. Such an adorable setting with delicious and creative food. Mom & Dad are always so welcoming. Vancouver needs more of this type of restaurant. Recommend making a reservation as it gets busy.
Dinner
Exceptional service, delicious food and a unique setting.
Very intimate setting. Food was delicious!
Excellent atmosphere with amazing food to match.
Absolutely declious coffee in a laid back, relaxing atmosphere. We loved it. Has a real European flair and you'd don't feel rushed at all. Everything is made with love! And dogs are allowed in the garden patio...amazing!
Food there is great. Definitely should go try the place out. However, some of the servings are a bit small and I would recommend getting an appetizer or two. Wait on Friday wasn’t too long but the food was worth the wait.
Wonderful menu. Very accommodating staff and an adorable setting. Best on the north shore! Exceeded what we heard.
This place is easily my favorite restaurant on the north shore. Delicious, fresh, handmade pasta with a traditional yet casual European vibe. Everything is homemade and local and you can tell by their food. Only downside is that there are no reservations- it can get busy and you might have to wait (worth it!)
First time to eat here was pretty good just pasta could have been a little more cooked . The triamius was very good.
Great place with lots of atmosphere. Fun to sit among the gardens and grapes. Food was traditional and very tasty...house red was worth getting...so easy to drink! Bravo!
We had a VERY mediocre meal experience at Orto. yes, the setting was charming and natural and the servers nice. the food on the other hand, was a big disappointment. our party of 3 found the flavours underwhelming and i truly felt i could have done a better job with my seafood pasta dish which i simply found boring. further, the prices were expensive for mediocre food and the additional $8 for bread is really over the top. I cannot recommend this restaurant for it's pasta as there are others better.
