Perfect date night on the patio! Showed up just before the kitchen closed and was not turned away, got our orders in and enjoyed a double woodford on the patio. Bartender was super friendly, accommodating and made the covid dining experience comfortable and easy. Loved the new menu, cheers to a great vibe!

I suspect the one star reviewer must have been at a different restaurant? We attended the Beer 101 event which was fun and informative - and tasty! We met some friendly people. The service is quite good and the food is consistently excellent, far better than you would expect from a small "pub." The place is clean and modern yet with a classy antique feel. The bands are consistently excellent and the people that come are fun to be around. I love this place!

I have been a patron of the Raven and Republic for years and I am absolutely MORTIFIED with the service tonight. My friend booked the dining room for our group of 10 to try it out and I raved about how good the menu and service was. She booked a week ago, let the restaurant know we had to leave for another event by 7 PM (our reservation was at 5:30). We got there, found out half the menu was unavailable due to lack of required ingredients. We were fine with this and ordered around this even though it was inconvenient. 7 PM rolls around and I had only received my appetizer and everyone else was working on their mains. The server did not enter my main and we had to leave. I was compensated for the main and we paid for my appetizer. They told me that they would make me my main and send it with another person from our group and I left. Turns out, they never even started my main and did not give anything to the other group member to bring to me at our other event. We ended up being late to our other event despite warning staff what time we had to leave. Basically, I didn’t get to eat an actual meal before attending the event we were celebrating. The restaurant was under staffed and I was told by the “manager” that they weren’t even supposed to open tonight. Why not call and let us know? Maybe they could have offered us a reduction on our bill for the terrible service. Many of those in our group tonight were first timers for the raven and republic. They will not be returning, nor will I. I would like the owner or general manager to contact me ASAP to rectify this situation. Many of us worked in customer service and the person who booked actually works in the restaurant industry. We don’t have unreal expectations but know that this was not how to treat paying customers. Worst service I’ve ever received.

We visited the Raven & Republic for the first time within the last month for a going-away party for my brother and sister-in-law. A friend had booked the upstairs of the pub for the evening and what a great set-up it was! We had our own bartender and enough space to mingle and play games. We ordered dinner and it did not disappoint. My husband and I ordered a burger each and while I can't recall which one it was, we both remember it being DELICIOUS. The patties weren't frozen - they were handmade and made fresh. I would definitely recommend ordering one for sure. They also have cheese platters that you can order to go alongside wine - and they'll even recommend some to you. The cheese was great - I would eat some again. This is a great spot for North Bay!

Like every year our company had its Christmas dinner at R&R. Drinks and food was excellent. Staff was professional and helpful. Granted, it was a Friday night close to Christmas so the place packed. That resulted that some wait time was taken into consideration until the food arrived, but no harm done. Great company makes the wait pass by in no time. See you next year!

The restaurant is was sooo dark you could barely see,,the garlic bread was soo hard it was harder then a crouton, it actually hurt my gums. Food was not seasoned at all. The Fish and chips were fried and the oil was not hot enough so it was oily and soggy. It took 1 and 1/2 hours to get the starter, and then another 1 1/2 hour to get deep fried fish and chips????? Worst restaurant experience. Trust me McDonalds is a better experience then this place.

Did not have this place when I went to school here but if it was, it would have been an exclusive for me. The decor is wonderful, they have comedy trivia twice a week, which is hilarious! The food even though I didn't order any, looked absolutley delicious! Only have craft beer, which in this day in age should be what everyone is doing. All beer consumed was great as well! Only complaint would be the stifling heat. Need to get a draft or a better AC unit. Which I dont think should take long to raise the money for considering they have a full house every night! Definitely on the list to go back to when visiting! Will even endure the heat again for the trivia! Great job here guys!

Easily my favourite place in town! I love the atmosphere and the cool events they do. I always have a great experience and the food is always great We also just tried their delivery and it was the best I've had. The food was cooked perfectly and delicious. It came in good quality reusable containers and looked the same as dining in person. The icecream that came with it was amazing too. I will definitely be eating here again and I'll be recommending it to everyone I know

This place is great for when you wanna hit it back with a group of friends. Parking is difficult at times as this place is frequently full. They have frequent events that can engage an audience. So make sure you check there website for there schedule. That said if you looking for a quiet sitdown place ( in the evening specifically Fridays) I don't think this is what they cater too. But you can ask and have you located in a more quiet location. Again this is a place where there is value added to the meal. Oh yeah the food is really good too. I really like there appetizers.

Nice place to grab a drink and a bite with friends. Love the circular booths. Harder to get traditional sweet drinks but they make nice custom creations. Has a hipster mixologist vibe. Live music was good. Wish is was a bit lower volume but very enjoyable to listen to. Servers were friendly and the bartenders were skilled. Find it’s more conducive to a group of friends going out than for a date night. But will test that later. Bathrooms are clean and have a strong chemical smell which was oddly comforting. The decor is very dark and the lights lower as the evening progresses. The dinning area could use a good dusting and cleaning but that goes for most restaurants and bars in the city. Good choice of food. Loved the deep fried goat cheese balls in the salad and the hummus was delicious. Will have that again for sure. My friends had nachos and they really enjoyed. All in all great place to go. Bit expensive for food but the drinks are on par with everywhere else. Great presentation too.

The food and atmosphere is easily described as "Hipster" You won't find your standard pub fare here, but what you can look forward to is unique and interesting ideas and flavours. And I don't mean that kn a bad way. The prices run a little on the pricy side, but it can be well worth it if you visit on a Monday or Tuesday for trivia night. It should be noted that trivia night now features a reduced menu.

The atmosphere and service are good. Not sure if they are just starting to get into the full menu and full days operating hours yet as it seems that the place is more set up as a night hangout. The food had a lot of promise though as the flavours were good but not quite as polished as you would see at somewhere like the Station or what used to be the Miner’s Son. I look forward to going back as this place looks like it could become really awesome.

We went to the Beer 101 seminar end dinner, and had a fantastic experience. Nicole had picked some wonderful beer and food pairings, I would particularly recommend the stuffed rainbow trout and the curried lentils. She generously shared her knowledge of craft brews, and where to buy the best local produce through the meal... although I doubt I will be able to replicate the delicious homemade ice cream and brownie dessert. Upstairs at the Raven and Republic is a cozy dining experience, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall one of the best dining experiences ever - and given I have a son who manages at a Keg in Toronto and routinely tours us to good restaurants down that way - that's from a fairly wide experience base.

I like this place, small and cozy. Have pretty good menu too. My friends from other cities (sudbury and Barrie) loved there and wanted to go back again. Dance floor is not big. It has 2 floors, main floor has 2 sections. One side is little quieter than other. I'd highly recommend if you're out of town and visiting North Bay.

Drink was mixed wrong; first choice on menu was unavailable due to no buttermilk; then ordered entree of scallops while we finished our drinks to leave for another place to eat and got mussels delivered instead. R&R just struggle to get it together. UPDATE: We went back again a week later as our big group had been booked for a while. Same terrible service, slow drinks, even full bottles of wine took 20 minutes. I got my chicken this time but it was rare inside as well as a second diner's chicken. The server refused to write down our orders and got things wrong, when it came tube to pay the bill he had no clue who had what. Although I want to support this place for offering great music and a different atmosphere to North Bay (plus I only live around the corner) under the current bar management I will never go back.

What a fantastic restaurant in Northern Ontario! We had lamb tacos that were amazing, and probably the best sweet potato fries I've ever had in my life. Actually crisp and not soggy like they often are in other places. I would definitely come back here when I'm in this part of the world again.

Was there celebrating our Christmas party. Staff was super accommodating and the atmosphere was great. The apps we bought were incredible and everyone really enjoyed them. We had very unfortunate service for our first time here tonight. The front of house was terribly understaffed. We were celebrating a birthday and wanted to order more food and drinks beyond our appetizer, but we sat for an hour and a half and were never asked for our mains/more drinks until we were ready for our bill. We also requested an ingredient be held in our app but that didn't happen. I understand that tables of two don't have bills as large, but we called in advance to reserve a table, yet were told it wasn't necessary because we would have no problem with service for two. By the time we got our bill we couldn't even go anywhere else because kitchens were closing, and we arrived at 7. Very shocked by the experience, we made the best of it but it honestly sucked. Still two stars for atmosphere and a variety of food/drink options, and our server was polite despite underserving us.

So I tried raven tonight super nice place great beer and food came out it was bland and tasteless my bread was beyond stale muscles were cooked to perfection but sauce was like bitter cause it was like semi raw garlic had gnocchi it was like ok but bland and like no sauce no nothing same with wife's mac and cheese with chorizo like hardly any chorizo and tasteless like that's the thing everything was like well executed but like tasteless ? Waitress was amazing actually whole staff was good maybe bad night ? Bad choices ? And at 70$ I wanna walk away full at the very least

busy but having 15 ppl served before u and arrived after me at the bar is absolutely ridiculous need more staff then 3 on a Friday night also on leaving an elderly staff member assaulted me when I mentioned the bad service cops will be called the next time. control and handle your staff better please north bay doesn't need another 151.. been 3 months and no response from them... and have been blocked by admin on Facebook which is very disrespectful to every customer.. not just me showing lack of response after police were contacted and report filed shows how much they care about their establishment

Very cool atmosphere in what was once a turn of the century house. If you like craft beer, they have an extensive collection on tap however nothing domestic. The chicken and bacon burger may well have been the best I've ever had. I'm tempted to go back for their jazz night later this evening.

Although the mushroom-based risotto doesn’t look all that great, it actually tasted amazing. The Raven & Republic is a frequent haunt of mine and I’m sad they discontinued trivia night which used to be super fun but the board game idea doesn’t seem to be too bad! Will have to try it out some point! The creme brule was nice but wouldn’t necessarily recommend the cheesecake

The food was great! The service was lacklustre. It started out fine with a list of specials but when the appetizer came and then the entree, the server did not return to ask it everything was ok, even when removing dishes. The dessert was great too, once again, completed our meal with no follow up. Had to flag down the server to get the bill. Too interested in what was happening on his phone. Too bad. Good food, enjoyed the piped in music but service was bland and if there had been anything we needed, we certainly would not have received it. Perhaps explains why the place was practically empty. In addition, it appeared that an employee (off-duty) was sitting at the bar telling very loud stories littered with obscenities - opinion since he sauntered into the kitchen after a few beer. In my opinion, this guy had to be on coke. First time there since the location was 100 George's. Will have think hard about whether to go back or not. There are other places in North Bay with food just as good, but better service. Usually tip 20% but tipped accordingly for service. It was not a reflection on the meal. Just because you're not busy, doesn't mean you give less to the few customers you have.

This might be my favorite local place in North Bay. I’ve been going to trivia as often as I can for the past year. The hosts are funny and the staff do a good job making sure the drinks are flowing during the night. They do a good job with the food too, my luck is bad so a few times my burger was undercooked however they took it back to cook it without any questions.

Good food fairly busy. Only one server (shannon) on rocking the house by herself other staff (yellow jacket a little drunk) walk around like chickens with their heads cut off. The two males that showed up later had initiative and were confident. They tried to help but you could tell Shannon was the real professional here tonight. Wouldn't leave her job to socialize like the others and multitasked like a boss!

The Critic

The lamb worth the cost, hands down. The food is well priced, the atmosphere is okay, but the crowd fun most times. I was impressed by their attentive service and food done with care. They are not pretending to be something they are not, great place to have a nice dinner with friends and have a lively conversation.

the raven is a tease. it used to be my fave restaurant and I would order the steak or the salad with steak on it - delicious. however, it's very hit or miss and several times i've gone and the meat was AWFUL.

Amazing staff and top notch food! Some excellent vegetarian options for those inclined. The environment is very cozy and welcoming. During the warmer months there is an excellent patio. They are centrally located and walking distance to the downtown and waterfront. Hands down my favourite place in town!
