Nowadays this business gets a rating of 3.9 over 5 and the score has been based on 127 reviews.
As you can see it has an average rating is really positive, and it's based on a very high number of reviews, so we can be pretty sure that the valuation is very reliable. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they've done well with the business, it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to put opinions when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Restaurant is classified in the category of Modern izakaya restaurants.
The atmosphere is great. Items are quite overpriced. Service was disappointing. Food was decent, but nothing special.
Absolutely the best.
Service
The sushi was very affordably priced and great quality and I found very delicious. I enjoyed the food. Service was ok. Dined in
The food is phenomenal and the staff are friendly and attentive. Restaurant is clean and comfortable. Definitely worth the visit.
Excellent food along with great customer service. Will definitely recommend this place
So this place the food is adequate, the service not so good, we order off the menu (outside menu) 2 chicken teriyaki dinners, and the appetizer calamari, the server hypothetically let's call her Katherine. Said 2 chicken teriyaki dinners and a cucumber roll, and I said no roll just the appetizer calamari and the 2 chicken dinner, and does that come with rice I said. Katherine said yes and vegetables and misu soup, I said perfect. So when we got home, and set the table for our dinner we noticed we got the chicken teriyaki and rice and vegetables and misu soup and a calamari roll. So I called and not sure who I talked to and she was not understanding that I wanted my money back for the roll since we did not order it, or eat it. I told her that I made order off the menu out front, and she said that menu isn't even "up to date"and (that there is no calamari on the appetizer menu it has been removed). I said you might want to update your menu outside then. She said they could not refund the money nor would they, and I said well I will be writing a review so here it is. Question : would I go here again or recommend this place to others? Answer : No I would not go here again the customer service is horrible. My personal thoughts the service has left a sour taste in my mouth and I can not go back.
Terrible service, did not bring us water or tea. Brought us one menu for three people. Food took over fory minutes. Ramen was mediocre neither my wife and I finished the broth. This place is not worth going to. I will never go back.
Good place.
Service
Love this new spot in New West Station! Service is extremely friendly and attentive, and the food is a great value. The sushi is pretty average, but the rest of the dishes we've tried on their menu have been excellent, which is what I was hoping for anyways – New West already has a surfeit of sushi options (at least 5 I can think of within a 5-minute walk of Kushi Mura), so a bit of an alternative when it comes to Japanese food is nice. This is a great place to go for some shared plates, and we'll definitely be back again (and again). One quibble – for an izakaya, the drink selection feels really meagre. Definitely an opportunity for improvement in that regard! I'd love to spend a weekend afternoon having beers and nibbles with friends here, if only they had something I wanted to drink.
salmon is not fresh, takoyaki taste like low quality quick-frozen food......disappointing over all
Neat little sushi place under the the skytrain station. Their menu is fairly large and the portions are great. Representation of food is excellent too. Will definitely be coming here often
Big pieces of rolls at a decent price.
Underrated place with tasty food. They also have lunch and dinner specials for bento boxes.
This is a terrible sushi place. I ordered a takoyaki and the rainbow roll, which are both so expensive yet the quality, presentation, and taste are very bad. Will never return again. There are better sushi places in the area for sure.
This Izakaya spot offers an extensive menu and friendly service. The sashimi we ordered tasted fresh and came with a lot of radish and ginger. The Bento boxes included reasonable portions of a good variety of dishes. Their skewers were okay. The desserts were great - we had peanut butter and chocolate chip ice cream and Japanese pancakes and enjoyed them both. The decor is nice as well.
(Translated) The sushi is very good (Original) El sushi es muy bueno
I orderd the Chirashi Bowl. I don't eat Ikura. But tried it anyway and they were really good. All the slices were fresh. Service was really prompt and courteous. Place was convenient too.
The best yam tempura rolls I have ever had. This place offers great sushi and friendly staff. The food is fresh and it’s a nice place at New West Station. Sometimes the hours may be off but overall I recommend this sushi place over others in New West!
Everything about this place was great. Very cool environment, such friendly staff, great service, the food was excellent, huge portions for a very good price. We will be back. ????????????⛩????????
Very fresh and delicious
I tried to order on the mobile application, but they place the unavailable menus on the board as available. Therefore, I tried to cancel the unavailable menus but cannot find any method to cancel over 30mins. Lastly, when I gave a call about the circumstance to this restaurant, but they said “Just cancel all, we have no choice.” and hung up without apologies.
(Translated) It's an izakaya. It's delicious and the atmosphere is good. hey Alcohol goes in. Jagged. hehe (Original) 이자카야. 맛있고 분위기 좋고. 캬. 술이들어간다. 쭉쭉쭉쭉. ㅎㅎ
So I went to this place, told them that I'm allergic to Sea food & fish, got my meal & proceeded to to eat, good thing I started on the outside of the plate, the put shrimp on my plate. Instant death, they don,t listen.I don't recommend
Quality sushi served here. Excellent service.
Just ok, massive menu. My advice? Do less better over doing everything meh
From appetizers to sushi, everything was really good and fresh. We'll definitely be coming back!
Very good sushi and quite cheap! They also have by far the BEST tempura in new west.
I always visit every Saturday to order special roll combo. Food is always fantastic also reasonable price. Staff are friendly as always. ????
Awesome food! Big serving with reasonable price
We were here Friday evening during their soft open. I'm not too sure what to think of this place the decor is a little bit all over the place. From wood paneling to fake brick walls you have everything. The ceilings are also very high and the space is very open which doesn't really give you that intimate Izakaya feeling. The soft open menu is basically just a sushi menu, it's supposed to change and expand once they have their grand open. When we first came in the waitress wanted to seat us in the middle of the restaurant even though it was almost empty, we asked to be seated near the back. One of the plastic water cups unfortunately had lipstick on it, something that shouldn't happen. The floor under our table was also dirty and had some food probably from the previous guests. For the food we got the chicken karage, dragon roll and tuna oshi. We also got a complimentary miso soup and some salmon sashimi to start. The miso soup was your standard miso that you get everywhere not better not worse. The salmon sashimi was fresh, the onions on top weren't really my taste. The chicken karage was fried a bit too much and the batter wasn't particularly tasty, the chicken was also a little fatty. The dragon roll was big, a lot of rice and immi crab in the roll. All in all it was ok just a bit too big. From a taste perspective it was a little bland and unexciting. The tuna oshi was alright, fresh but also a little bland. All in all we left a little disappointed, it doesn't feel like an Izakaya and it also isn't a great sushi restaurant. With a lot of great sushi places less than five minutes walking distance away from this place I am not sure how successful this place will be. Right now I'm not planning on going back, I hope they will use the soft opening to learn and improve their concept. I wish Kushi Mura well it would be great to have an awesome Izakaya at New West station, this right now is not it.
Service and food were great! A little pricey though.
Great service, great atmosphere, quality food at reasonable prices. I will definitely be back!
Love this hidden gem right by New West station. My colleagues and I frequent this place as it’s transit friendly. We enjoy having their Edamame, Salmon Aburi Oshi, Tempura, Crunchy Cali Roll, among many others. The Salmon Aburi Oshi needs more searing though. Service is fast and friendly too. They also take our photo when requested. Really a great place to hang on a Friday night. We will surely be back.
Everything was good except the price. The price is very different on their website and in person. I ordered the combo thing and it was around $19 dollars on their online menu. So, I called the restaurant and ordered it. However, when I got there the owner said it was $27 dollars. Even though the price was a bit higher than I expected, I paid that anyway because I was too hungry. After a minute, I checked the price again on the website because I could be wrong but it was still $19 dollars. I went to the restaurant again if something was wrong, and the owner kept saying that $19 dollars is ONLY for online orders, and $27 dollars was for indoor price...? She did not tell me that the price could be changed over the phone tho...Well, guys please order your takeout by using online cuz apparently the prices are cheaper on the online order.
Great sushi and service!
Great food and service as always
Amazing food and very nice customer service. The only downfall is the time is takes. It’s a very slow service to make sushi but other than that it’s really nice and very nice decor.
Awesome place
Food is great, not excellent, not bad. There are HVAC/exhaust issues , you may smell grill/deep fryers while inside. Updating my review and giving this place a 2 stars for further robbing the pedestrians of useable walkway space by creating a choke-point after expanding the patio. I used to be a somewhat regular here, but now will not support this place because I am also a regular public transit user. My daily commute (and probably of the rest of Quayside residents who walk past) is worse thanks to your "improvements".
food was awesome, service was great and nice interior as well!
This place has potential. Great atmosphere and location but the food quality needs to be turned up a notch. Victoria Sushi has quality food and I keep going back. Hopefully this business can focus on the food and I can keep coming back.
I was super excited to try this place and boy what a disappointment. My friend specifically told our waitress she could not eat fake crab and confirmed with waitress that the roll she got did nt have it. When the roll came it was half grab. They then made her pay for it. Won't be there again.
This is one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever had! Every ingredient was so fresh and the portion was quite big to me. It's very clean and great atmosphere, wonderful staffs, and tasty food. The right balance of everything. Especially, It is highly recommended that CHOP SCALLOP ABURI ROLL.
This is our 5th time . Excellent food, excellent staff, excellent prices. A great night out. Yummy good stuff
Imitation crab meat in everything.
Love the place, the food and the service.
Ordered the grilled squid and the seafood udon soup on skip the dishes, the soup actually had a lot of seafood which was amazing! I think for the price the grilled squid portion should be bigger.
The food portion is huge!! The taste was also great. Definitely will come back :))
First time at this restaurant, very friendly staff. Loved their sashimi very fresh, chicken kaarage wasn’t very tasty it was missing some flavor, soup was not bad but the skewers were uncooked, will never order that again if I ever visit that place again. I was very disappointed with the pork belly being served uncooked, I can still smell the rawness of them.
Such a great atmosphere! I love that they have a combo with a bunch of their nicest rolls so you don't have to order a bunch and waste money. Defs coming back.
As I live nearby, I was taking out the order, and I didn’t like two things: first, they forgot to add teriyaki sauce in teriyaki chicken box. Second, they gave me chopsticks which was moulded from inside to outside. I’m really disappointed... Thank you!
Food is always delicious, and service is always amazing :)!
Meal type
Zero Stars!!! Sushi is overpriced for the small sized portions, but does taste good. We dined in when they initially opened and it was good. Next, I called here for pick up couple months ago, I paid when I got there and they screwed up my order but I didn't notice until I got home. Walked in today and ordered takeout and the waitress insisted on me paying ahead of time (so I can call in and pay when I pickup, but can't walk in and pay after, hmm) didn't feel comfortable tipping so had to skip it ???? I asked for extra wasabi twice and once again, when I got home, not enough for 2 rolls, GRRR. Strike 3 you're out!
Very disappointed. I live in the neighbourhood and I have been here once a few months ago. This time was the last. Called for pick up order and was told it would be ready in 15min. I showed up 20 min later and still waited 10 min. Also the price online I was told was incorrect because they recently raised prices. Instead of $40 I paid $51. They never confirmed the total amount on the phone. (You would think that they would notify you about the recent price increase while placing your order and speaking with them…) The fried chicken is horrible. The sauce they use taste like burnt sugar and makes your teeth incredibly sticky. Horrible experience.
This sushi place tucked beneath the New West skytrain station serves delicious and beautiful dishes with friendly customer service. Portion sizes are slightly larger than average and prices are moderate. Nigiri sushi is interestingly on the menu to be ordered in pairs (one order = two nigiri sushi). Both raw and cooked foods are excellent and while visiting we were given a free dish: salmon nigiri with apple sauce and onion, which was unique and unexpected. I highly recommend Kushi Mura Izakaya as it is absolutely tasty and conveniently located.
(Translated) This is an American-style Japanese food. The prices are very cheap. Although not as delicate as other Japanese food shops, it has a warm taste and is suitable for a quiet meal. (Original) 这是一家美式日餐,菜品价格很便宜,虽然没有其他日料店那么精致,但是味道很温馨,适合一个人静静吃饭
Really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised at the generous portions of the combo selections. I was referred here by a friend and will definitely return. The chicken teriyaki combo was delicious and filling. The staff were really nice too! ????????
This is my new favourite spot in Downtown New West! Amazing service, extremely accomodating to my dietary restrictions, delicious food & super affordable prices. Great for a large party, accessible seating albeit a little crowded with all their decorations, super clean, Asian-Canadian owned. Would love to see some Japanese sodas, cocktails & Asian style desserts! I look forward to going back!
This is probably the worst sushi place i have ever been to. I placed an order at 5:50 for 6 items and the server told us to go pick up the order at 6:50. So i went there and they had me waiting for another half an hour and kept asking me to wait for 10min each time i asked them for the food. After the 4th time i asked them for my food they said sorry we just finish the sashimi… at this point i have already waited almost 2 hours! for dinner and still gotten nothing… I don’t recommend anyone to go here its not even the food its the service thats so bad that i don't want anyone to wait for there food for 2 hours and still couldn’t get anything by the end of the night… so pleases don’t go there.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I got the chirashi don. At 16$ I was expecting something more substantive. Except I got 10 pieces of sashimi that were so thinly sliced. Two meager pieces of tako, two small pieces of salmon sashimi, two small pieces of tuna, two pieces of tomato, one ebi, one squid. If I went to sushi California, the amount of sashimi I would've gotten would be 1/5 of what I got here at the same price. I can't believe they are charging this much for this amount of food. Any sushi restaurant in the area gives substantively more sashimi and sometimes at an even cheaper price. The staff ignores you, and the atmosphere is terrible. Honestly, I have to say I was very, very disappointed at this place. Stay far far away if you are looking for sashimi. Even the Togo sushi, which is a take out place gives better portions. The sashimi was bland, didn't taste fresh (I don't know how you can mess that up) and the soy sauce was too salty
Food started off great! Food has gotten worse and worse though. I’ve also had food poisoning (medically confirmed as I’m immunocompromised). I used to recommend this place to friends. I’m disappointed that the food has declined so much. I probably will never eat here again. Spend your money at a place with better food, service, and health and safety in mind.
The best sushi in this town.
Food is decent but not for the price. Location is convenient.
Cozy environment, great service but portions are somewhat small!
Very slow service. The selection of food is pretty good though.
No flavor and over priced????
Service
Husband and I decides to try here for date night and we were very impressed with the food! We will be going here again!
I feel like there are some false reviews here to bring the ratings down. As soon as I entered I was greeted right away and I think everyone was Japanese... I was seated in the middle but I didn't mind (the server did offer to move me if I wasn't comfortable). In the future, I think I would recommend if the hostess offered the customer a choice as some have seating preferences. It is spacious. This place has high ceilings which gives me the feeling of dining "outside" with how it's decorated (trees, starry chandeliers, faux exterior of a side of building). Izakaya is a Japanese Pub so there can be a variety of sizes, it doesn't need to be small or cosy. The menu had a lot of variety for a SOFT opening (a test run with a limited menu) ranging from sushi to udon to the usual appies to teriyaki dishes... Basically a full menu compared to some restaurants. The gyoza was one of the best we have had. I'm excited to come by when they have their OPENING and FULL MENU. They also do offer soybean paper unlike some places. I thought the food was good and fish fresh. We were also given a complimentary treat that was tasty. I can't remember the name but it was a tuna and cheese in a ball ... For the lack of better words (sorry lol) Try it yourself and actually give it a shot. It seems some had their mind set before coming in here.
Very tasty! Unique atmosphere and good priced japonese beers.
I went in expecting an izakaya, but was disappointed to find this is just a mediocre sushi shop. They dont serve pitchers and gave us no drink menu. The chicken yakisoba tastes like store bought instant noodles that were left in a bowl of sauce overnight. Super soggy and very little chicken. -1/10 would not go again
Flavourful and tasty food with a friendly helpful staff. I will definitely be back soon!
I’m allergic to avocados and every time I order from here the chef takes great care to clean up the utensils before they prepare my food. Their sushi is great and service is amazing, 100% recommend!
the yam tempura was 95 percent tempura...and very warm/soggy , definitely better choices out there ...
The server gave me extremely bad attitude and was extremely rude. He spoke in a foreign language aggressively ( so im assuming it was profanity) The food was also really low on standards
We ordered Goiza, takoyaki, pork belly skewer, etc! All 3 is very recomended! Reseanoble price and good services! We defeneatly will comeback again!
Pretty decent food and the portions are large (ordered a teriyaki set and took home a good chunk of it). Service was quite good as well.
Beautiful setting, very neat, and food and pricing is great. 짱이다
Such a wonderful place * sushi is authentic as they come * love the staff they are absolutely a delight ???? only my 3 rd time but this is my Go To spot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bravo ????????
Best gyoza I've ever had. Good food reasonably price. Open late night. Great if you are looking for something after the movie.
Foods are excellent and service is pretty good!! Good job ~
Take out
This a new opening Japanese restsurant. Good place to gethering with friends here.
Dinner
This is very nice Japanese food and nice people.
Service: Workers from the kitchen saw our group was ready to order but decided to continue talking to the servers and ignored us. Took another five minutes for us to place our order. After ordering, the servers was up on top on refilling our tea and removing dishes throughout the night. Food: mediocre. As the restaurant is managed by Koreans, the food is not 100% authentic and lead to a couple of disappointments. Agedashi tofu was overly sweet, the meat of the beef tongue skewer was too chewy, the salmon aburi oshi was a thin slice of salmon on top of a big chunk of rice... Overall the food quality is not worth the price tag on it.
Standard sushi restaurant and atmosphere, but I would prefer the nearby Ki sushi instead.
I ordered "sushii" here lol yesterday. I put sushi in quotation marks because I don't eat raw fish. I ordered California roll and dynamite roll, but hard-pressed to find any shrimp in the dynamite roll or any avocado in the California roll. What a disappointment
Just best in town, super tasty and perfect price! 100% recommended!!!
(Translated) The food was delicious and the atmosphere was good. It was a bit disappointing that there was no shochu (Original) 食べ物もおいしく雰囲気も良かった。焼酎がなかったのがちょっと残念な部分だった
Terrible service, told them allergic to a substance and they still put it in, reminded them that I don't want them in there, they came back without making the food again and just removed what they can see
I like the food they serve!
not a true izakaya lmao they dont greet you or say good bye (not even in english) good food though - really good
2 Vegetarians had dinner tonight at this spot (first time too) and we had an excellent experience. The server was super sweet and we appreciated how she came back multiple times to refill our teas. It’s a cute restaurant inside playing Christmas music so it’s a cozy spot for sure. We kept it simple with an avocado roll that was delicious & gomae along with another noodle type dish that I can’t remember the name of. We will definitely come back.
Some of the food was decent, but when I ordered a scallop and bacon skewer, I kind of expected it to come with more than one scallop. My partner was unimpressed with the sausage and scallop skewer as well, as it was basically just hot dogs and bad bacon. The service was okay, but it took ages to get our bill.
It is located under New Westminster sky train stations on the same level of Safeway. You may park your vehicle under ground parking. The staffs are friendly. If you feel hungry this restaurant is a good choice to get nice food.
We visited for the first time last week and came back again because it's such nice ambience here and service! The food is good but rather okay, but everything else just makes it so nice to visit here. They also served a nice little service dish on the house and we really appreciated it and was delicious. Will visit again!
About 3x the amount of meat that you’d need for a filling meal and a tiny, tiny salad. Service was reasonably prompt and our special orders delivered correctly. My rice was closer to room temperature than I’d’ve liked.
Rainbow roll $11 Medium portion, fresh ingredients Beef Udon $11 I love it rather than the roll. The soup is delicious and marinated beef are so yummy
Bad customer service
Visited first for the soft open and then again last night. The staff were super friendly and we were taken in and seated right away. There was a big greeting call from the kitchen that reminded me of visiting Izakaya in Japan. Tea was brought quickly and refreshed regularly. Staff were interested and personable but not overbearing at all. I really enjoyed the decor. They're in a cool space and they seem to have put a lot of thought into shaping it. The soft open menu was sizeable (a pleasant surprise), and the full menu is extensive. There's a lot to choose from. Everything from sushi classics to donburi to grilled fare. We tried a half dozen items and enjoyed them all. Planning to go back to try the Oden, now that it's properly winter. Give this place a try if you can. An Izakaya is a rare thing around here. I'd love to see them have a chance to come into their own.
Delicious food ????
Another, service was fine. No bieru. Sushi menu. Ordered a quick pork belly skewers from the waitress. Spoke my broken Japanese that can get me by in Japan. No dice, instant change of waitress no Japanese. Soft opening maybe no license yet. 45 min to wait for the bus thought hey let's give it a go.
A friend had her birthday dinner here. It is a new twist on typical sushi restaurants. The skewers were a big hit. We did expand into some of the twists on the menu. The sweet crunch roll is like a sushi sundae: California roll topped with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and candy sprinkles. The Hot Night Roll appeals to those who like a nice spicy spicy spicy roll. The volcano roll was a big hit. It comes with a flambe finish! The oshi is a delicious taste of Osaka. No doubt, though, the star of the night was the salmon nigiri with apple sauce. It was a brand new flavour experience which surpassed the ingredients listed. Amazing! Overall, the service, pricing, and portions are great, but the food is phenomenal, especially if you are willing to push yourself out of your comfort zone.
Nice place. Decent food.
I studied abroad in Japan for 2 years and this place is the closest thing to authentic sushi. The customer service was excellent and the food is really high quality. I recommend getting the bento boxes as they are really filling.
Good food, friendly staff, comparable prices. Only complaint is their take out is in styrofoam. Switch to something eco-friendly and I'll happily make this 5 stars
Ok. Been here twice since opening. Great sushi and service, however the only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the music playing in the background. I'm a progressive guy but there was total fwords used in the lyrics. What if there were children eating there? Also they need to add speakers. Music is coming directly from the big screen TV. Sounds so canned. It's amazing how adding proper sound can change the ambience.
It's just OK. A little overpriced for the food you get, and the food is not memorable. You are paying for the location. The chicken karaage comes with no sauce (so many places give a nice home made tartar sauce and lemon on the side, I was shocked they gave nothing). Their Salmon Oshi is totally not worth the price... I hope they improve.
Staffs are friendly and attentive. Our hot teas keep getting refilled. Foods came out just 10 minutes after we ordered. Good portion and affordable prices. Most of the food we ordered were good, ebi mayo is a bit soggy and not so crunchy. Good experience overall, will definitely come back.
Feeling homesick and looking for homestyle Japanese, I'm searching for good oyako-don. The criteria? Rice that's sticky but not mushy, scallion slices that are less than 1 inch in length and slightly cooked, and most importantly! Scrambled egg lightly cooked and sauced with the chicken or rice! (Rice noodles and onion optional) Well. The scallions were good. The egg was flavourless and overcooked, lightly browned when it's supposed to be like soft tofu. The chicken was way overcooked. And the rice tasted like it didn't have enough water content in it. The flavour was somewhat familiar but it is supposed to permeate through most of the dish... in Kushi Mura's, it was cooked into the chicken and rice noodles. That's it. $10 is a decent price for donburi, but it just didn't taste that good. As for the atmosphere and service, the tinny monospeakers (are they only using the stock flatscreen tv speakers? Seriously?) playing kpop videos on youtube feels out of place and dominates the otherwise traditional vibe. The place was not busy during sunday dinnertime. About 4 other tables out of a little over a dozen were occupied. Decent and polite service from the two waiters.
They did poison me once with rotten inari nigiri. 2 stars though because on other occasions they didn't poison me. Fill yourself with joy, not poison. Visit Ki Sushi. Jan 2020 update: This place has only declined in quality, avoid!
Good sushi restaurant! Very neat, with it's own atmosphere. Very good food for a good price. Service was really fast. We like their complementary tea and miso soup. I want to highlight that restaurant, but actually it is pretty similar to other sushi places, nevertheless the location is so convenient. I recommend that place!
missing food items terrible rolls...the dynamite roll is stuffed with artificial crab meat with a tiny tempura. The rice also taste old. never again
their menu didn't label the ingredients in the roll correctly, which led to my friend being unable to eat due to an allergy
Very friendly and clean service!! I love some of the special rolls. So yummy and filling! Thank you for quality sushi !
spicy chirashi don portion is huge!! everyone gets a miso soup for free regardless of their order which is really nice. i've gotten a couple free treats both times i've gone and it's safe to say i'll be back later!
Amazing quality of food and service. The wait staff and chef are very friendly and create a comfortable environment. This is my favourite sushi place in new west, it’s an absolute treat to enjoy Mara Izakaya sushi and Japanese cuisine.
Recently, Kushi Mura Izakaya opened up on the main floor of the Shops at New West (ie. New West Skytrain Station) at the western end closest to Quayside drive. I ordered up the Salmon Toro Sashimi ($14 for advertised 5 pieces). What arrived was 6 large (although somewhat thin) pieces of excellent salmon belly. These were so slippery to pick up and just slid down my mouth. Mmmm…. so buttery good. In addition, I ordered the Yakitori ($6) and Pork Belly ($5) skewers. On my next visit, I decided to try their Pan-Fried Gyoza ($5.50) – you have a choice between pan-fried and deep-fried. I also decided to try their Salmon Aburi ($10). The single layer of salmon on top was saucy and creamy and there was the slightest amount of a spicy kick to it. On a subsequent visit, I ordered the Tuna Yukke ($8) which is a raw tuna dish with chopped up tuna and avocado topped with sprouts. You need to mix it up a bit because the sauce is on the bottom of the bowl.. Kushi Maru has a number of different oshi (boxed sushi) dishes including both aburi (flame-seared) and fresh types. Having tried their Salmon Aburi before, this time I picked the Mango Scallop Oshi ($12) which was creamy on the top from the mix of mango and chopped scallop as well as the sauce drizzled over it. I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for Okonomiyaki ($8) ever. The one at Kushi Mura is actually on the small size when compared with the huge ones we had in Japan. Actually this worked out pretty good for one person as the okonomiyaki pancake can get quite filling. To lighten things up a bit, I paired it with an order of clean and fresh Salmon Sashimi ($7 for the half order). Sashimi Salad ($15) was a huge bowl filled with tuna, salmon, wild salmon, veggies, fruit (apple, grape) and avocado. When I visited in late February, I noticed that they did some renovations since my last visit… they’ve put in some pony walls which separate the tables – I suppose to give people a bit more privacy. It doesn’t look as open as it used to but maybe that’s what they were going for. As for the food, I figured it was time I tried some of their nigiri sushi so I ordered the following (the nigiri is priced for 2 pieces): Unagi ($6.50), Scallop ($7), Salmon Toro ($6), Hamachi ($6.50). As a bonus, they brought me out a complimentary Negitoro roll with chopped tuna and fresh green onions. While I was a bit full already, this was a welcome challenge to finish. On another visit, I ordered the Tuna Toro ($14) and also ordered the Aburi Beef Oshi ($12) which was also probably a bad choice on my part. Each piece of nigiri was topped with two thin slices of fully cooked beef and I found it was too dry. I finally splurged and ordered their Sashimi Combo ($30 for 18pc). I really wish they had a smaller (less pricier version) of this available. As-is, it would make for a good share dish. For your money, though, it was a pretty good value as I think I got more than the advertised 18pc count. It included salmon, tuna, tako, ika, hotate, and salmon toro. Of course, the salmon toro was my favourite because it just melts so smoothly in your mouth. On my subsequent visit, I tried their Spicy Scallop and Tobiko Aburi ($13) and their Pork Belly Lettuce Wrap ($8.50). On my last visit, I ordered the Salmon Tataki ($12) for 8pc of salmon and alternating avocado slices. You really can’t go wrong with the salmon here. I also ordered the Hamburg Steak with Prawn Tempura ($14.50) Unlike the usual Hamburg steaks that I’ve had elsewhere, these patties are quite flattened and resembled Salisbury steaks. In any case, they were topped with a fried egg, onions, and a demi-glace sauce. Overall, they have a fairly extensive menu here and most of the items are spot on. Definitely make sure you try their salmon toro sashimi if you have a hankering for some melt-in-your-mouth sashimi.
Great place to hang out!
Don't recommend. Sushi had no taste. Miso soup was too salty. The place by itself is nice but overpraised.
Loved it????
Great sushi portion size
Great food and service
We have been coming in here regularly since the COVID-19 pandemic hit (obviously only for take out for the most part). The staff is always very welcoming and patient. The food is delicious (yam tempura roll is my favourite!) and the service is really great!! Definitely become our go to sushi spot in New Westminster. If you haven’t already visit them or ordered for take out, I highly recommend you do!
Really good! Dishes presented beautifully, and they taste delicious.
Over priced. Slow service even though the restaurant was mostly empty. Impossible to get the attention of the waiters. Didn’t have our water refilled. Forgot one of our food items and it arrived when we had already eaten everything else even though it was an appetizer. Worst part was the machine does not let you choose how much to tip. The minimum amount was 15% and went up to 25% which they did not deserve at all.
Dinner
Good rolls. However, some workers did not have their masks on while serving. There were some boxes and stuff piled up everywhere; definitely not an Izakaya atmosphere...

(Translated) It was a store that had just opened. I feel that the inside of the store is trying to bring out the atmosphere of old Japan. The name is Izakaya, but I didn't have any alcohol because it was a soft open. The food was usually delicious. Located inside Westminster Skyatrain Station, it's convenient for drinking.
Nice sushi in New Westminster station.
Food was great, my wife usually doesn't eat sushi but she like the ones I ordered here and the bento box was also amazing. Great food and good service.
Great food for a good price! We really liked the gyoza, seaweed salad, and rolls. This may be our new favourite local sushi place.
Salmon tataki was amazing!!
Decent Japanese and very conveniently located
The food was really tasty! We ordered donburi and assorted sushi and they were very good. They also gave us a complementary dish! The decors are really nice too and it makes the place feel homey. It's nice to have a good Japanese restaurant close to our home. We'll be back to try more items from their menu!
Quality food served! Visually appetizing. Taste really authentic.
The food is pretty good, but be aware thou! The restaurant charge me twice with my credit card payment :/ I contacted my bank and they said it's their credit card machine's fault. As a customer, this is a terrible experience. ————————————————————— The rating is changed from 1 to 2 as money was refunded by the owner very politely, but the experience was still ruined giving the fact that I had to go to the restaurant and asked for refund. What if I didn’t notice the charge? This would probably go unnoticed.
Its really a 3.5. The service was exceptional. I was the only one there, but the attention to detail was great. That's worth 5 stars. It is a Korean own Japanese place so the tea is more Korean like than Japanese. Where it lost points was the quality. The sashimi grade on the low end where the tai was a little fishy, the Toro and sockeye wild salmon was stringy. It was by far melt in your mouth type of deal. Maybe the cooked food is better as they call it an izakaya. The menu has everything so it's not really what I would call an izakaya, but it does have some different dishes. The price is alright compare to the portion. The chirashi don came to $14 instead of the listed $16. They gave me complementary miso soup. Minor things to improve on (and now I'm just being picky) The rice isn't bouncy enough that may be a brand thing The California roll could have a little less imitation crabmeat so it's less soft and mushy. That's just my preference. And evenly distribute the sesame seed...one was left "naked" The interior is cute. It had a little house feel to it with 2 fireplaces. I think as they are just opened so the storage area isn't covered yet which is just a weird site. I haven't been to many sushi places along New Westminster to say if it's the best one around the area. I hope they read this review and improve because I want to see them do well.... the service was just that great.
Yummy and good portion foods! Staffs are very friendly and attentive ❤️. Located near skytrain new west station.
A little on expensive side, but definitely one of the better restaurants in new Westminster.
Thursday May 30, you guys are supposed to work till 11, closed around 10:20
First time ever going here and had the most friendliest server, Kim help me. She's is very tentative and offered some great recommendations on the menu. You get great value from the dinner bento box. The food itself is quite good and I would recommend this place if you are looking for a quick bite to eat.
Always great. Plus there's White Claws.
Outstanding service. Very friendly people. Excellent sushi!
Ordered ebi sunomuno they forgot the vinegar, then the sushi rolls smelt like mouldy refrigerator. The wait staff were lovely though
This place has the best tuna tataki I've had in a really long time. Not to mention, the exact type of boneless fried chicken I've been craving since lockdown; so juicy on the inside. I was so impressed with the other items I had as well. Definitely making this place a regular.
Went on opening night and had the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Waited 25 minutes for some water and the ability to order. We were offered free appetizers. Didn’t get them. Had to ask 3 times and finally got 1 of 2 after we were done our meal. Half the food brought to our table was not actually ordered by us. Items were missed. No water refills. We even had to ask for plates.... I checked around and found this to be a similar experience for all the other diners. I even heard another couple contemplating just leaving because they couldn’t order for 20+ minutes. Sad times. I was really looking forward to an Izakaya in the area. PS. Their menu is 75% sushi restaurant and everything tasted like it was frozen food from a cafeteria supplier.
Great authentic Japanese place. We go here for the traditional plates rather than the sushi. It's our go-to place in New West and the chicken teriyaki combo is large quantity, high quality for the price.
Omg. The best by far. Friendly. Quite and very helpful
Just a review from an eater here, not really concerned with the politics of restaurant names and race of people who work there. Gone here a couple times for dinner and lunch. Service was always very friendly, and we were greeted as soon as we entered the door. Atmosphere is really nice too, though the TVs may be a distraction for those who prefer a super traditional decor. My friends and I dig the Kpop videos though. Food is great, if you have the choice between Togo and Kushi Mura and have time to sit down and eat, I'd recommend Kushi Mura. Try the gyoza, it's friggin' delicious. I really recommend branching out from the basic rolls (like California) and trying the special rolls and other dishes. Also the fish here is really good, so nigiri is a good play. This is my go-to sushi place in New West now.
I recently visited this place and ordered miso ramen and a sushi taco. Try to care about your food more and please have a higher standard for quality. I am Asian and I know good Asian food.
We have found our go to sushi place! 5 years after we've moved to the neighborhood. We've tried most of them! They have a great selection beyond the standard rolls. I didnt really enjoy the spicy tuna however. I am really looking forward to trying the Philadelphia roll but doesnt show up on their online ordering site. Delivery was prompt and friendly!
Service was attentive and helpful.
This entire experience was absolute trash, from the terrible portions, to the terrible presentation, to the terribly high pricing, to the terrible customer service, the dragon roll wasn't even edible, it looked like some kid threw it on the floor and then scooped it into the carry out container. Absolutely worst experience ever. When I called to try and reasonable discuss it with the manager the woman on the phone was a complete tool and refused to even allow me to speak with the manager. The entire time Im just calm asking if there is anyway anything can be done and I'm willing to drive back to the restaurant and everything and she is just flat out "Sorry you choose not to like our food, but thats not our problem we know its good." And I just thought wow, Jesus, not going here again. Hope this dump goes under...
By far the worst sushi I have ever had. My “caterpillar” roll was a California roll with avocado stuck to the top. My ramen was basically hot water and ichiban. It looks alright in there, but I’ve never been more disappointed in a meal before.

A relative new comer, and a bit of a hidden gem, in New West. You can tell that the owner and chef care about their restaurant. The fish quality here is head and shoulders above any other sushi place in the area. I fully recommend their sashimi combos, which include excellent hotate (scallop), ika (squid), and tako (octopus) on top of the regular salmon and tuna. Location is convenient too.
The food here is great! But service can be a little slow. If you have to be someplace after in a rush, maybe go to another place. If you got time tho, best food ever!!
Awful service each time we come. First the hostess led us on a wild goose chase around the resurant to find a table for two (stopping midway through to give 3 min lessons to the new server on the POS system while we stood there awkwardly waiting). Then it took 10 mins trying to track down our server to get a drink order in. Then he brings us our Miso soup with no spoons to stir it as it seperated so we spend another 10 mins trying to wave down ANY server. One server kept sitting at the table beside us to talking to her boyfriend between bussing tables, delivering HIM drinks, and taking orders. I politely got her attention twice to ask for a spoon/our server and she smiled awkwardly and walked away halfway through my sentence each time. All our food came out at different times and in an weird order and the first and last dish where almost 30 mins apart. Then it took another 10 mins to get the bill and we had to go after the server because my friend gave her a 50 for a 20 dollar bill and she didn't give us change. Always horrendous service (last few times we walked out because it took over 20 mins to get our menus).
Amazing sushi! Great quality and Big rolls!!! Please keep it up!!!
☆SOJU on sale☆ A bottle of soju only for $11.50! Cheapest price in town????
Decently diverse menu of Japanese izakaya type items. Quick service, and good sized portions. Been a few times now, and it's consistently satisfying.

Awesome ambience and very welcoming service. The menu was fresh and delicious. Will definitely recommend this spot to friends and family. Affordable rates and big portions. Great work.
(Translated) The attention in this place is very good, we ordered 3 types of sushi and they were all delicious, perfect combination of flavors, I tried the daka, I loved it. The atmosphere is quite nice. I recommend it!
