This Restaurant corresponds to the category of Seafood restaurant.
Their lobster ans seafood chowder are very good. Feel free to add a stash of seafood to your lobster. It’s worth the price.
We both loved our meals. Newly renovated. Romantic lighting. Great service. Incredibly clean restaurant. Food is amazing. My table allowed me a wonderful view of King Square where life was starting to return to uptown after the recent snow, rain and freezing rain event that stopped every activity in their crunchy snow tracks. A lovely fireplace added to the coziness of this scene. As always, the food was delicious and the service friendly and attentive. Seafood chowder was flavourful and beautifully presented with a warm tea biscuit and a swirl of dulse (I think). I always try and come here when I am in Saint John, it has never disappointed me. Washroom signs are cute (a little fishy perhaps) ha ha!
First time at Billy's Seafood restaurant and we were not disappointed! Great service from Kristen,Greek salad, pan fried scallops and seafood dish just delicious. Be prepared to be wowed but on the high end for cost.Nice table with a view and we'll probably return. David Olive
Went to Billy's for our anniversary and couldn't be happier. Our server (Buffy) was amazing and went well above and beyond. Her positivity and charm were infectious. The seafood was all cooked to perfection. The charcuterie board was delicious if a little small/ordinary for the price. Drinks were on-point and Buffy threw in a delicious slice of chocolate cake to wish us happy anniversary ???? We will definitely be back.
Sat at the bar. Ordered 2 Richards Red, but keg was empty. I ordered Mussels and my husband ordered Seafood Chowder. I went over to the fresh fish counter at the far end of the bar to buy some smoked salmon to snack on while we waited, no one served me - this is bad. I left, went back to my barstool. I asked the bartender some questions about the seafood counter, he knew nothing - this is bad. I then asked him to get me a chunk of Billy's Smoked Salmon. He said he couldn't and that Billy had to get it for me - this is also bad. After quite a while, as we still didn't see Billy; the bartender gave us a tiny taste of the smoked salmon, which was delicious and made me want some even more. The bartender didn't even know when the fish market opened the next day. Anyway, Seafood Chowder was watery and had no flavour and was $22. The Mussels were just ok. Will not return. I hope Billy does some day.
Billy's is a Saint John institution - in a good way. The location & decor are lovely, & the food is delicious. We had the smoked salmon chacuterie appie & the chorizo/scallop main - delicious!! Go for a modern & thoughtfully prepared take on maritime seafood.
Good. Slightly pricey. 4 of us without desert or drinks was $125. Try the fisherman's platter for a variety and larger serving. Limited options for thos in your group that don't like fish/seafood.
Just moved to Saint John, and we've been eyeing up Billy's Seafood on Google Maps for 6 months! Finally got to try it today and am thoroughly satisfied with the superb quality of the meal & the phenomenal service! We met Buffy today, our server, and she's absolutely epic! We'll be back! Excellent Fish & Chips, dare I say the Best!
They don't want us at this restaurant!? June 30t we came to Saint John. Found the place on google look through the reviews and went in. We did not have a reservation. In half empty restaurant they put at the bar. Fish and chips was great. On July 5th we decided to come back. We made a reservation online for 7:30pm. In half empty restaurant with reservation they put us next to the toilet. On the question “can we be moved to another table” the response was they are reserved, people called. More people were leaving then coming in. Table stayed empty.... They started rushing us out: We ordered drinks, appetisers and main courses; After the appetisers were served Literally in a couple of min we were told that our main courses were ready to be serve as well; in 2 min we had all dishes on the table piled upon us; we swallowed oysters and salad as fast as we could so main would not be getting cold. Fish and chip was good. Oysters is ok mussels were horrible. 40 min later we were leaving and felt like Fast food pit stop experience. And at 8:30PM on Friday the place was almost empty. Questions: 1. You don’t like foreigners and only local are welcome ? 2. Do your reservations have a priority system? 3. Is it systematic to serve as fast as possible so more people in and out?do you compete with a fast food? 4. Is it normal for hostess to argue with customer over sitting?
Absolutely a horrible service experience. When seated we asked for specials and if the server recommend anything particular on the menu or if there was a speciality the restaurant was known for. He told us to "look at the menu and pick something." Wow! When asked of a sandwich could not have mayo he said no and then welcome to Canada. Again, wow. Ordered drinks, only hot half of them. Stay away from here.
Food was so great, i had shrimp coco appetizer and the fish taco, waiter was very friendly
Wow! Super friendly staff and lights out sea food. Was there for a business lunch and could not be more impressed by the warmth of the staff. Sincere and welcoming. As for the food just great. I had clams and chips. Hard to come by where I live and it was fantastic. Just a really great spot.
Tasty food served by wait staff that cannot be beat. Friendly, attentive without hovering, knowledgeable, and willing to entertain the 6 year old cheerfully with a few self-deprecating remarks for the adults in the side. Seafood dishes were delicious, and just the right amount of food. Highly recommended!
Very Overpriced, go to the Market and get a Lobster Roll for a lot less ($11.99). $55.20 Canadian for two Seafood Chowders and two beers, that is very overpriced to me. Seafood Chowder was okay, meaning I wouldn’t order it again.
My family and I really enjoyed the food at the restaurant downtown saint John and a lady named Buffy waited on us. She was absolutely wonderful. By far, the best customer service weve received in a long time. Very attentive and made sure the adults at the table could eat while she helped keep my twin infants and 9 year old niece amused! A++++
Absolutely amazing! Visited about a month ago from Ontario and we were welcomed by the most accommodating and friendly server (I wish I could remember her name, only that she loved working out haha). We had a 15 month old with us and she made us feel so comfortable the entire time reassuring us not to worry about the mess he was making and to enjoy our meal. We had the BBQ Chicken Flatbread (amazing) and the lobster roll (outstanding - even not during lobster season). They even whipped up a batch of garlic mash for our little. We will definitely be coming back once we make the move to NB next year. We just had a to write a review because we couldn’t stop taking about the meal/service.
We ordered mussels, Bouillabaise and lobster roll with fries. All were super tasty and delicious! Waitress was also super friendly and attentive.
It was heaven, i will give 10 to the cook. The service was excellent and the staff very nice. I would recommend it to everyone who likes real cuisine.
I have never had bland seafood before. For starters, our appetizer order was wrong, and then when we got it, it wasn't good. The chowder had very little favor, slightly milky only, and the salad had either no dressing or it was the first Greek salad ever that didn't have vinegar. Clams were good for my fiancé but my seafood pasta was the worst meal I have ever ordered. The 'mushroom garlic cream sauce' tasted like nothing! Like they served pasta water + cream! Grr. Seafood on top was mediocre at best and tasted blah. We would never return and feel we wasted over $100
Wasn't sure about going into Billy's because of some of the other reviews however they weren't true. Owner was there he was very friendly and greeted me along with a couple other workers. I went in at around 3 o'clock so it wasn't really busy but I asked for the seafood chowder to go and a tub of lobster freshly cracked. Seafood chowder was amazing probably one of the best I've had. Freshly cracked Lobster was equally so however was somewhat expensive around $19. I would definitely go back here though maybe for dinner when I have time. I must place to check out.
We ordered Halibut and Scampie dinners for $30 each and we got tiny piece of fish and one shrimp. Place is totally over rated. Slow service. Put up our hand to try and finally order dinner and waitress brought beer instead. Won't be returning or recommending this place.
We tried the salmon, halibut, scallops, lobster roll and bouillabaisse. The seafood was fresh, but each portion was small in comparison to the other two seafood places that we’ve visited in New Brunswick. Service is also slow though reasonably good - be prepared to wait at least thirty minutes for a server to even introduce the menu. Then again, there seemed to be many tourists when we arrived, so that might be why...
Service was good but the food is remarkably average considering the prices. The farmers market next door is absolutely worth stopping by and probably a better place to grab lunch. Check out its options before committing to anything.
Simply amazing. You like fresh seafood, this is an excellent place and the prices are decent. I recommend reserving in advance as they do not have too many tables. Will be back again!
Sometimes when you plan a lunch with friends you wonder if everyone will be happy with your choice. Well I didn't have to worry today. Billy's Seafood was a wonderful choice. The service was great and everyone agreed that the food was terrific. I am a fan.
The best lobster that I ever had.
We were asked if we had reservations, we didn't, but there were many empty tables but we were seated at the bar in front of the door in -15C cold. Service was extremely slow, had to wait 10mins just to get the menu even though we were in plain sight of the staff. Then we had to wait 1.5hrs to get our food between 4 people. Food was pretty decent but definitely not worth the wait.
Service
Anyone who's dined with a toddler knows it isn't easy. Aside from being enthusiastic and cordial, the staff at Billy's went out of their way to help keep our daughter entertained. As the only one in our party who doesn't enjoy seafood I can only comment on the chicken, which was stellar.
Went there for supper with the family. The waitress ruined it for us. She forgot 2 people's meals and the rest of us ate and my son didn't get his meal until we were all finished eating. She was rude and didn't even apologize for the mix up. Then she charged us extra on our bill at the end of the meal and when I mentioned it to her, she snapped the bill out of my hand and spoke to another co-worker who rolled her eyes. The food was amazing and this was my favorite place to eat, but after this situation, I will never be back and have told everyone about the disrespect from the staff. Made us feel very uncomfortable.
Terrible experience..Arrived around 7PM, just ask for take out...Was told probably need to wait for 45mins for takeout.. Because this place has a high review so we decided to wait...Was seated at the bar for 20mins..No one came to take order for us..2 waiters came and told us would take order in few minutes but after 20mins’ wait..Still no one came to take order...I understand as a “fine dining”, it may prefer doing dine-in business, but if it is too busy or not worthy to do take out, just don't offer take out service
A local person recommended us this place. We had lunch there today and it was AMAAAAZING!!! Delicious food, nice place and the SWEETEST service ever!! Our server made us feel at home from the second we entered the restaurant! It's a pity I didn't get her name - one of the best servers I've met!
The best fish and chips I've ever had, including England and seafaring cultures around the colonial world. Great chowder too.
Awesome lobster. Awesome service.
Great service and the lobster tagliolini was top notch. My mouth wanted more, my stomach said there's no more room at the inn!
The food is outstanding. We were a large party, and had numerous apps and a diverse range of main courses. The crab cakes we're the best I have had. The service was great. Our waiter was very attentive!
I can't believe this restaurant has been in my city for 25 years and I've never tried it. I missed out!! The food and service are amazing. It's not cheap by any means but you get super fresh fish and it's worth every cent. Perfect little gem!!
Wjat a lovely little gem of a place. Stopped on for lunch and had the Avacado toast which was made with rich goat cheese and a delectable balsamic that paired perfectly eith the salmon. Service from Emily was attentive and joyful. All rhe staff Madd a point of saying hello and the fellow patrons were lovely. It may be a little more expensive but it's worth your time and worth the dime.
A great dinner! Excellent seafood, well prepared, with good service. The room was nice, and notably uncrowded, even for mid-week. Highly recommended!
What a nice surprise. Was here during the Summer on a road trip. The crab roll was one of the best I had on the East Coast of Canada. Excellent selection of local beers too. Clean, friendly staff. Definitely hit this place up if you are in Saint Johns'.
My family enjoyed our dinner here last night! The cocktails were delicious and very reasonably priced ($7 for a single). I ordered the lobster roll (the picture came out blurry ????) and it was tasty, but was a little pricey ($40 for a large - regular size sausage bun). The chowder had a lot of seafood in it and the bacon-wrapped scallops were great. One complaint is that the calamari was quite bland.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Our server was very helpful in determining which items were gluten free or could be made gluten free. I would definitely go back here again.
Very nice experience. The lobster was great, well cooked and at a very affordable price given the quality. You can see that vegetable are actually cooked and seasoned together compared to other restaurants. Winelist is fine at affordable prices. Service for us was very cheerful and helpful and efficient.
I've been here twice and have had their PEI oysters and a whole lobster, which was mouthwateringly delicious. Service was excellent both times. The second time I visited was around lunch, and I really wanted to try their famous lobster mac'n cheese. Unfortunately, it was only on the dinner menu but my waitress went back to see if the chef would make an exception. To my surprise, I was going to get the mac'n cheese! And it was divine!! Definitely a must have when you visit Saint John. Thanks for an amazing experience!
Fish and chips lunch special just right portion for seniors, loved it, great service, great prices!
Awesome food and great service! Giving 5 stars because the quality was high and the meal came out quickly. The food was a little more expensive than what I usually go for, but the portion sizes and quality of the meal made it worth it. Really good lobster roll!!
Best place I've been to out east! Our server Buffy was an absolute gem, and Billy the owner had to be just about the nicest fella I ever had the pleasure of meeting. Thanks for making it a great experience, I hope to make it back in for dinner before returning to Alberta. -Ty
Went here for dinner the food was absolutely delicious. Portions of food are about average size and presentation was very nice. The wait time for our food was a little long but it was definitely worth it. Our server Corey was very friendly and helpful. The music in the restaurant was not too loud so I could still hear my conversation which I always like. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was nice I especially loved the lighting. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. I will definitely be back and would definitely recommend.
This was recommended by several locals but the food was really nothing special. The steak was grey and overcooked and the seafood was not much better.
We had a great experience here when we made an impromptu visit on our last night in Saint John. Sam our server was knowledgeable and very attentive. We enjoyed a great meal with friendly top notch service. Highly recommended a visit to this restaurant when in Saint John.
Spectacular!!!!! Owner visited with us and gave us samples of the most amazing smoked salmon. Service was excellent and friendly. Food was just wonderful.
Delicious clam chowder, good lobster though a bit overpriced.
First time in Saint John, went for lunch at this restaurant, amazing service and food!! Can't beat fresh seafood and fresh made pasta. It's a must try restaurant in this city, server name Buffy was amazing, will definitely go back there as my first choice, great work. Keep it up!
Service wasn’t very good. Could feel the stress of the waiter and it wasn’t even busy. Clams were squishy, not cooked well enough. Fries were inconsistent, one serving was white and floppy and the other was dark and over fried. Expensive for what it is, nice restaurant visibly but wouldn’t be back.
Lunch
Good oyster bar, nice place. I really like all the different kind of oyster. But for the plates, a bit expensive for overcook seafood with missing seasoning. The staff also need to be train on the menu, they are not able the give clear info on each plate and wine list.
On our last night in Saint John, we were on the hunt for a seafood restaurant and then came along Billy Seafood Restaurant!!! From the moment we arrive and greater by Sara it was a wonderful experience. The oysters were amazing as were the crab cakes. Then, the main course is Cajun Seafood Stew was out of this world, it was so full of seafood food I couldn’t finish the entire dish. The fish and chips looked amazing and the way it disappeared I am sure it was. The waitress Sara was fantastic and so welcoming. Thank you for a great experience.
We were looking for fresh child water lobster, fish, clams (fried) and scallops. Ordered a lobster and fried seafood platter...just fit our tastes and it was delicious. The lobster was a bit small, but sweet and tender...very tasty. Seafood platter was generous. I asked them to leave off my fries and my husband and I couldn’t finish his serving. Buffy, our waitress was a doll, attentive and helpful. Definitely will go back!
The highlight of my one day spent in st john. We waited for quite a while for our food to come, buy they cooked everything from scratch I believe, the seafood chowder is nothing like what I had elsewhere - so fresh and creamy and tasty. Highly recommend the lobster mac n cheese, I laughed at my bf when he ordered man n cheese - a slap on my face lol it was sooooo good that I stole half of his plate. I loved their manager too, the lady I didn't ask her name but she was very caring and sweet, I overheard that she's retiring next year but I hope to see her again when we go back sometime!
Food was excellent, we had the lobster roll and the FRESHEST fries. Service was SUPERB. The waitress was honestly one of the sweetest women we have had wait on us in a very long time. Would definitely recommend and would definitely come back.
3 of us ate there last night. Food was ok but bring lots of cash or credit, you'll need it. And if you want to eat outside, they have an area alongside in an alley and you can watch the bums and pan handlers. But at least when you come inside you can enjoy the attitude of the staff... because they "don't get it" . After all, what's not to like about pan handlers, welfare bums and drug addicts? In general for what you get, I would say the food is roughly 30% to 50% more than a typical restaurant. I had 2 pc fish and chips for $21.00. Slaw was not the best, fish was large and ok and the taters were good but no seasoning. Around here you can get a better meal for $14.00
Staff was super friendly! Fish n chips were greasy and the clams were not really cleaned well. The best tasting gravy I've had in awhile tho!!
On expensive side, prices start from $18+. Great ambiance to sit inside. Very fresh food, but I feel that I could get the same in a street food stand - no "ambiance" though. After a year and a half of sitting at home due to the corona virus, we REALLY wanted to sit in a restaurant.
I had a full seafood spread from lobster to oysters; all of it was fantastic.
I've called in sick to work so I could get the Pokebowl at lunch, it's that good.
Amazing place! Lobster so the best I've ever had. Crab cakes were delicious and the oysters were fabulous, almost ordered them for "dessert"
I love the service, food and atmosphere. You feel welcome the moment you walk in. Great restaurant to order off the menu or from their fish market. Be sure to order their fish cakes or smoked salmon to take home.
This is very likely the best seafood restaurant in town. The ambiance is casual, but that's how I think seafood restaurants should be. What matters is the food, and the food... Wow. Just get out of your hotel or whichever suburb you live in and go. You won't regret it.
Fresh seafood. Good option for lobster. However i consider prices are too expensive for what you get. Great menu and variety also selection of wine.
A must try in st john !
The food and service was great, but waited 1h to get the food.
Meal type
After researching the local eateries in St John, New Brunswick, we decided on Billy's Seafood company for it's varied seafood menu. We chose the seafood chowder and having g decided on a lighter meal went with a second appetizer of Caesar Salad with Seafood. I really felt that front of house paid little attention to us. We had to ask for orders to be taken when it was very obvious we were ready to order. Staff looked over at us but did not come over. The chowder was very, very bland and had little seafood but a lot of potato. The chowder was very thin with a consistency closer to a consommé than chowder. The salad was a saving grace and was excellent. Large shrimp, a surround of mussels and very tasty and well cooked scallops. I talked to our server about how good the salad was but pointed out that the chowder did not match in quality. I was told that the chef had been given this feedback from the server but was told that as a server his opinion was irrelevant. I cannot recommend Billy's to anyone due to the inconsistent quality. With the chef's attitude it will not improve. Billy's management need to step in to elevate the restaurant to its potential. Very disappointing.
We had a lovely time sitting and enjoying our dinner at the bar of Billy's Seafood restaurant tonight. The lobster & glasses of Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc were lovely, as well as the seafood pasta. My partner would have liked a bit more pasta, but the flavor was great ????. Thanks to the lovely lady and gentleman for their kind service and recommend to give this place a visit when you're in town. They need our support in COVID times! ????
We arrived at Saint John, N.B almost at 4pm and went to check the market. The restaurant is in the market with another entrance on the side street. We had checked this restaurant before and read reviews. I was dying to try the Digby scallops! Went in and were graciously approached by the server who confirmed no reservations available. We said we were from Ontario and were eager to try their menu and had read so much about the food. Say no more, she asked if we were comfortable in one of the high tables. Of course we were!!! She put a sign of Reserved in one of those and we returned at 6pm. We showed proof of vaccination as required. I ordered scallops and seafood chowder. Hubby ordered the $40 lobster roll. That was the moment I realized the scallops I had eaten before were "fake". That was out of this world. The service was amazing as well!!! Absolutely loved the food and the service. We only found the portions quite small for the price but we would do it again!!
We came from Ontario and was told this place had the best seafood in town. Saying we were disappointed would be an understatement. The food was subpar the portions were TERRRIBLE. The food packet would be better described as snack size to be honest! Would not recommend this spot for anyone visiting, the local McDonald’s has better value
Great place with friendly servers. Love the lobster meal$55 1.75lbs, small lobster roll$22, fish and chip$18 2pcs and Cajun seafood stew$36. Small Chowder$9 is too thin I think it should be a bit thicker. I even discovered that there is meat inside the antenna of a ????. Documented with photo.
We came in from Ontario on our way to PEI. We didn’t make reservations but they made room for us. Emily and Mike were great. ‘‘Em was our waitress and Mike entertained us with all his knowledge of the area. We had oysters, chowder, crab cakes and lobster roll. It was delicious! The atmosphere and seems was great! Will go back next time in Saint John. Bonnie and Jen Ottawa, Ontario
A very bitter experience on our 41st wedding anniversary 10th November 2021. Ordered multiple dishes which were good but the speciality main dish, a large lobster was a disaster. It had less than 25% meat. Reported to the server who notified the chef who chose to ignore our complaint. The chef should have not served the dish when he saw little meat in the tail and the state of the soft claw shell. It was a ruined celebration which will linger in our minds for a while. Never think of visiting the Billy's again.
Delicious but overpriced. They need to hire additional wait staff. Ours was working really hard but too many tables. Crab cakes, local oysters, sea scallops, all perfectly cooked. Salad good also.
Over rated. Tried this place twice, first night was the seafood chowder which was flavourless. This time we tried the "lobster mac and cheese" the wait time was minimal, almost to the point of suspicion. The dish was served at room temperature and needed to be reheated. At 30$ you wouldn't expect this quality. If your looking for a decent restaurant in Saint John I would recommend trying the "church hill steak house".
My sister took our mother out for a Mother's Day mid-afternoon lunch at Billy's. My mom, who is in her 80s and rarely complains, told me after that she barely had any lobster in her meal. Maybe a couple of small pieces. Come on, Billy's, what happened? You do that to someone on Mother's Day? It's a fairly premium cost for a meal there, yet you barely add lobster to a lobster meal? I go to Billy's when I come back home and I've sang its praises to NB visitors. Not anymore. Just sad....on Mother's Day.
Great fish and chips and Cajun Seafood Stew!
We had a great experience here. The food was good but the service level is on another level. Our server Alex was beyond awesome. Would recommend ;)
Absolutely awesome restaurant with great food and Buffy gave us excellent service! While walking upstairs we happened to run into the owner and had the opportunity to talk for a few minutes, what a great guy!! Looks like I'm going to have to make another trip back because I can't find that Grimross maritime pal ale I had with my dinner in the states. Thanks for the great food and great time while in your beautiful city!!
Not bad overall. Out of the 4 lobster rolls we tried while in the north, this was second best. While the food and service were pretty good, the experience felt about 20% over priced.
Cold rainy day. Found restaurant. Missy found us a seat. The plate of oysters were nicely cleaned and presented. The Caeser salad with scallops were perfect even the foot was removed. High praise to owner who was sweeping at back door and asked how I liked the food. Go here, Batman.
We just came from the interior to the coast so were looking for seafood. Billy’s did not disappoint. My halibut was tender and tasty. My wife’s salmon was excellent. The facility is very nice without being too fancy. The service was v good. Glad we stopped in.
Picked up two lobster to take home for lobster rolls. Best lobster I have ever eaten. So sweet and salty. This place has perfected cooking lobster, nothing like your local grocery store. Only place I'll ever buy lobster from again. Thanks
Upon our arrival, the restaurant was clean and calm. We were seated by the window. We asked about the wine list, our waitress was very knowledgeable about the local beer that they had on tap from Pump House Brewery. She gave a great recommendation that was very nice. We ordered Fish and Chips, Spinach and Beet Salad, Potato and Leek Soup, and Cedar Planked Salmon. Everything was very timely delivered. The food was delicious, tasty and well presented. The Salmon came with Vegetables that were clearly fresh, not freezer and tasted great on their own. The fish and chips were fantastic, hot and tasty. We also had desert, the warm Chocolate Caramel Cake. It was well presented and tasted great. I would go back again.
Dinner
Oh my God yes! The staff was great! The food was amazing! I could eat here for days!
Dine in
Very fresh seafood, nice upscale/casual atmosphere. Billy's is in the St. John Market building, but has it's own entrance so is open well after Market closes. We had a "seafood medley" (various shellfish baked with pasta) and a 1 1/2 Lb lobster described as "tough as old Ned" (an allusion to a baked mule). Still, service, entrees, and price we're 5-star - blame the lobster for 'bad genes' not the kitchen.
Entered, not acknowledged until I made the effort. Girl at front on the phone. Waiter helpful and friendly. Had small lobster roll w salad, basic food, not amazing, overpriced. Other person at table had seafood fettuccini, watery, no flavour. One of those places that you don't need to make the effort to go to.
Awesome seafood with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Had lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels and crab cakes. Was so good I picked up a box of Lobster, Scallops, shrimp and halibut to bring back with me to Ontario.
Meal type
Good food. Great ambiance. Awesome service. A must try at Saint John. Kudos to Billy and family for running a passionate unit.
We were not impressed with service or quality of food. Received half of our order and asked twice for the remaining item. After waiting another 20 minutes, we gave up and left. Our waiter was only interested in serving others. So sad.
Buffy made this experience so awesome, she's just the best! The food was delicious, five stars folks!
Seafood is very fresh. Love the clams on my Deep Sea Platter.
Great food, great service, great location. If you're in Saint John, I definitely recommend Billy's for some of the best seafood you'll ever have.
One of the best restaurants we've tasted. Excellent service!
Meal type
Great food with lots of flavour! Waiter was super nice. Would definitely recommend to anyone (who isn't allergic to seafood). Also, the fish tacos are to die for and the fries were probably some of the best I've ever had! Would definitely go again
Such a great restaurant. Fantastic oysters, a huge selection from PEI and New Brunswick some of the best I've ever had. The Cioppino with chorizo was delicious - full of fresh seafood and chorizo made in the market next door. The service was very friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.
Absolutely fantastic. Restaurant is beautiful, and food was amazing! Great portions for the price. Cake from Hamilton Ontario, we'll definitely be back on our next visit!
I went here in the summer with friend of mine who knows the chef, and he surprised us by covering our bill and personally bringing us each desserts! Very good food and exceptional service provided by all of the staff at Billy's.
Everything was excellent. The service was amazing food, wine and dessert are awesome. If you visit St John, give it a shot and I am sure you would love it like I do ????
Lunch
Just wanted to say that todays experience in your restaurant was very bad – awful. Arrived prior to 2 pm, two tables, both eating. Received our food at 2:45 pm. Took that long to overcook the pasta and to serve a rice bowl with uncooked fish. Apparently, some big shot was your priority as he snapped his fingers long after we came in but yet left before we even got our food after an appetizer and entre. Stated to our server this and all she said was well, covid, one cook. Ha, only two tables mid pm. Anyway, we always made it a point to come into Billy’s twice a summer for seafood with our out of town guests. Never again. Although we reside during the winter in Ontario, we spend June to Sept. here in Rothesay and are originally from here. Sub-par at best! Stay clear of possible!
Service
Omg the food and the service! <3 had the oysters and the mac n cheese. Omg
Service
Just had a great meal at this location. Waiter was friendly and food hot and fulfilling. Clam chowder tasted good and the Halibut was a good size. Recommend this place if you are looking for a nice seafood place with a reasonable price.
Food was absolutely delicious. Staff was friendly. Our server went above and beyond to make our dinner great. She was happy, friendly and informative. Best service I've gotten in years. This place is a must stop for dinner
We spent a very memorable afternoon here - Buffy was awesome and a great way to start our weekend away to Saint John. Lovely fresh lobster!
Food was very good Service was fantastic I knew what wanted (fish and chips) I ordered before setting, Was really a great experience ????
Dine in
This was the worst dinning experience of my 57 years. I called an hour before arriving as we had a larger group of people (15). Upon arrival the server brought us into a room where he told us they could shut the door if we were to loud. The restaurant was nowhere busy and by the time our entire group showed up an hour had passed. The 3 of us who arrived first ordered starters and glad we did as we were served our meals last even though he had taken our orders first. 4 hours later we left disgusted with the service. Wrong meals being served one in particular was placed in front of my friend after she repeatedly told him, the server, that is not what she ordered and was very upset that he had pushed this meal in her face. The online menu is not the in restaurant menu. So don't go there expecting "surf & turf" as being steak and seafood. I would have fired the server. 130$ dinner for 2 of which one meal was haddock and 20 potatoe wedges. $49.00 for lobster and scallop potatoes 4 Digby Scallops $19.00. We all had to ask for refills on our refreshments, several times before receiving them. Do not go here for any reason.
I tried the Lobster roll. Delicious and a local craft beer to boot. It is a very busy place but worth the wait. Great job!
I love seafood chowder soup. I tried severals in NS and NB. This here was definitly the worst. Much water many potatoes no scallops and not much fish in it. Was not the money worth. Had also oysters. They actually were great.
On of the best lobster I had so far. Oyster were amazing too
Very good service. Great oysters on oyster night! 5 different varieties. Good chowder, very good seafood pasta and fantastic warm feta Greek salad done right with homemade crutons. Not inexpensive but worth it.

I’m in Toronto, my dad lives outside Saint John. I gave my dad a gift credit at billies which was His birthday request. Alex - one of the staff there was super amazing in helping me to that. I had technical e transfer issues and his credit card machine was acting up. Alex called me back twice in he course of a few days to keep me posted on his end and finally we got it done. My dad loves this place amd Alex was beyond incredible. I would revoke the this place to anyone who likes fish as much as my dad and who appreciates amazing people amd service.
Service was excellent. Food was definitely something i could get for more than half the price somewhere else and have larger portions. No salad, bread or water offered. 3 adults, 1 child, bill was $250 with tip and 5 total beers ordered.
Just had their lobster roll with a side salade. The dressing was superb ! You should bottle the dressing and sell it.????
We paid close to $120 for two of us for each our own appetizer and main course, a glass of wine, a shared dessert and tip. We had only 1 night in Saint John and were pointed to here for dinner. The cost was slightly on the higher side, but the food was delicious and the service was great. Would definitely go back and definitely recommend it to others.
Loved the bouillabaisse! The waiter even told me the ingredients so I could try to replicate the broth back home. Amazing service. Best restaurant in St John!!
Friendly service, great food. Uncrowded at breakfast.
Patio space for us and 2 dogs. Oysters were so fresh! Lobster roll was so delicious, didn't even taste the mayonnaise.
Eric our server went above and beyond our expectations. The food was amazing too. We will come again when we are back in Saint John!
I decided to do take away since it was just me and my little one. I choose the lobster roll which was delicious. Hands down best lobster roll I’ve ever had, mind you it’s not like I have had the opportunity to ever eat lots of it so take that with a grain of salt. I gave this place 5 stars because of how amazing the staff was. The lady who took my order was genuinely nice and probably the sweetest waitress I’ve ever encountered. My baby was babbling away so another staff member decided to come over and chat with him, was entertaining him with his waiting tray and just overall being silly to make my boy laugh. The waiters were doing this out of pure kindness, I was not eating there and therefore knew that I wouldn’t be tipping. A family came in from BC and wanted to buy live lobster. Their market was closed however they still accommodated them and even placed everything for them in their cooler. Im from Ontario and I have never seen service like this place. Good food, great service.
Catch of the day was INSANITY.
So much flavor and best salmon i have ate so far in saint john! Great friendly staff :) small cozy restaurant.
In terms of atmosphere Billy's is a wonderful restaurant, as my partner ordered crab cakes and a small ceaser which she found delicious. Although the salad was small for the price. I ordered some white wine mussels for appetizer unfortunately they tasted like the smell of washed up seaweed. The lobster was quite good but the price felt too steep. Overall I couldn't see myself going back even with the great atmosphere and staff.
Best Oysters I have ever had. Period. It was crowded and busy (wouldn’t expect less from a good restaurant on a Saturday night). Great atmosphere and great food. Try the Yip cider if you like a dry cider. Absolutely 5/5.
Small seafood restaurant at one of the market entrances. Nicely done salads. The seafood chowder was very good, plenty of fish and veggies. A little hot sauce would have made it excellent. Friendly and attentive wait staff.
Service was fast and efficient. This was a shot in the dark because I caught the menu I the corner of my eye when we were coming out of a mall. The prices were good and the food very tasty. We werevery happy with what we ordered.
