Had a very tasty lamb souvlaki and my husband had the filet mignon The menu is very lean with only one pasta dish and several steak options. I would say I had a great meal but definately payed for it. The servers were prompt and friendly and our food took minimal time to arrive considering it was Valentine's Day. I would go again on a special occasion.

That was the worst dinner for the price that I HAVE EVER HAD... No discount for Inedible lobster on steak and prawns way overcooked. Sauce, Hollandaise very poor as well. Vegetables were cold etc. This was a VERY Poor dinner and we didn't get even an apology .. .. .. NEVER GOING BACK !!! WILL NEVER GO TO THE BOLD KNIGHT EITHER ...SAME OWNERS. YOU GUYS ARE NOT DOING IT RIGHT.. Nothing good here!!!!

I have been to Zougla's many times over the years and the service has been good all the time. We had a large crowd for a special occasion (9 people). I had the salmon filet with baked potato and veggies. I am almost vegan (for health reasons) but there weren't any vegan options. I enjoyed my salmon and the baked potato. The salmon had a lemon-herb sauce which was quite nice. The meal came with a small serving of steamed vegetables which I wished had been a little bit larger. My daughter has celiac disease and asked our waitress what she could eat that was gluten-free that would be safe for her. The waitress suggested the souvlaki...I think it was the lamb or the chicken so my daughter ordered that. Shortly after she finished her meal, she started having symptoms from gluten contamination. While we were visiting with our guests, my daughter overheard the conversation between a man at the next table and his waitress. He asked how the rice was prepared and she told him that it is cooked in chicken broth. Well, that would be the culprit as most chicken broth has wheat/gluten in it. *sigh* Zougla's was very accommodating to us and allowed us to bring our own cake and provided serving utensils and plates to us for no charge, which we appreciated very much. I also tipped very heavily (30%) in appreciation for that. All in all, the other guests at our table we happy with the food and the service. I would have given Zougla's a 4 star but because of the lack of gluten awareness, they are getting a 3 star rating from me. High-end restaurants really should ensure that staff/cooks are aware of common food practices when it comes to allergies and intolerances.

The food here is fabulous. Be prepared to spend some money, as quality food doesn't come cheap! When I eat here I am usually with a large group and the staff are always friendly and helpful. They handle large crowds well. (Today there were 10 of us.) We each get served within a reasonable amount of time considering how many of us there are. The food is Greek inspired, so there are many Greek dishes, with a few west coast seafood dishes to round it out. There are vegetarian options. They also have an extensive wine and spirits menu which includes several Greek classics like Retsina. They even have several fancy coffees, which you don't see at restaurants often any more. And, if you've only got time or room for dessert you would not be disappointed. They have a Chocolate Eruption that is melt in your mouth tasty. Chocolate coated icecream balls in either dark or white, and one of my favorites, mud pie. Just to name a few!

Was promised the best ribeye in Nanaimo, I was disappointed. Chef's response if you didn't like it why did you not send it back. Well chef, why did you say you had the best steak when clearly you did not and if I wanted to eat alone I would have come alone.

The food is great but the price was a bit much. I ordered two chicken souvlaki plates and the total came to just over $50. I was shocked. I don’t think what you get is worth it despite it tasting great. It’s just chicken, rice, potatoes, pita and greek salad. Which I guess sounds like a lot of food but I still think the price is a smidge too high. I would feel comfortable and happy paying $45 for the meal, as I think that is a fair price. That being said, on special occasions I will be back because I do see the care that is put in the food. It was tasty. The price is just very high, so that’s a bummer.

Simply the hidden gem of nanaimo, having lived here all my life I feel almost robbed of what could easily be tradition. The feeling of being at home as well as higher class dining to the warm atmosphere and staff, could only be exceeded by the overly talented chef's working the kitchen to produce some of the best lamb I have ever tasted in my life! Making this one of the best dining experiences I have had on the island, if i could change anything about this decadent discovery i would say a little faster service but do to covid I can understand the delay and am looking forward to go back once things have calmed down to experience a more organic environment and that would be it, the standard set at this establishment far exceeds anything I have witnessed in nanaimo I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.

Before my friend's visit from Kamloops came to an end we planned to have dinner at a 'nice' restaurant and thankfully Zougla was open on Monday night. We were able to combine two of our favourite dish features of seafood and Greek by ordering the scrumptious Prawn & Scallop Souvlaki along with a robust Chilean merlot. The night-time lights across the strait above Vancouver were sparkling as we recounted our recent 10-day adventures after not seeing each other for 45 years...it was a perfect evening, including the price.

Zougla is a nice restaurant serving mostly Mediterranean style dishes.The portions are large. My absolute favorite was Mushroom Cups baked with the butter-garlic sauce and cheese. I wouldn't recommend the baby pork ribs with BBQ sauce. You can't taste anything but that sauce. The staff is great - professional and polite. The restaurant takes all the necessary measures to protect customers during COVID-19. The tables are arranged to ensure social distancing, cleaning is thorough. The restaurant has enough parking space.

We had the patio to ourselves after being turned away at another establishment that closed at 8pm right on the water that can't find staff to enable them staying open longer. Beautiful place, we got take out and the food was amazing. Especially the Mediterranean flatbread, such a good appetizer after a day out in the mountains. Both the rice and potato options were good I’m told and the round bread was so so delicious, the tiny crispy shell with soft insides was to die for. I wouldn’t recommend the Mediterranean pasta , it was a bit too oily and the veggies lacked flavour outside of the feta. If thats what you like go ahead but I would’ve preferred the shrimp curry or salmon my other friends got. Other than that, everything else was great and the food is well priced and good portioned(coming from someone who eats a lot). We will definitely be coming again

If you've read any other reviews I've written, you know that we enjoy Greek food and we also enjoy checking out new restaurants, so last week after I'd been away for awhile we stopped by Zougla to knock another Nanaimo restaurant we haven't tried off the list. It was a Monday night, and the restaurant itself was very quiet. It's a nice looking place, with big comfortable booths and great decor. We started with the Caesar salad, and while it was a substantial size, it was just OK in terms of flavour. It still blows my mind that the best Caesar Salad we've had in Nanaimo comes out of a pizza place and not a nice restaurant like Zougla. As there is few better foods in the world than cheese, we started with an order of saganaki. It's served very dry, which depending on your preference, may be good or bad. For us, it was a miss. The portion is pretty small, and you no longer have any delicious oil and lemon to mop up with the bread. It does come with some average pita bread, but you might want to specifically ask for the opening style bread, which was probably the best thing we had all night. My partner had the chicken Zougla, subbing in the lemon potatoes for the rice. She found it to be alright, although underseasoned and in need of salt. The portion was a decent size. I had the lamb chops (as the traditional style roast lamb didn't appear to be a menu item - pity), and they weren't very choppy. Pretty small portions of meat and took a fair amount of work to get off the bone. The greek salad was fine, and as far as rice goes, it was decent. I also had some of the lemon potatoes, and they are... not lemony at all, which for a greek place, is damn near a tragedy. We were both extremely bummed to learn that it's yet another greek place in the city *without* Ekmek on the dessert menu, so I went with the mud pie, and my partner had the chocolate mousse cake. Both desserts were decent, though the mousse cake was definitely the superior choice. Overall, the experience was fine, but almost entirely unmemorable, and the prices are high enough that Zougla has been added to the "probably not ever coming back here" list, but that's fine, because there's already good Greek places here. Bill for two (with one drink) came to $105 before tax and tip.

Zougla is a classy restaurant for lovers of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. There is a decent parking area and a large and comfortable dining hall, including some open air seating in the veranda. The service ladies are friendly and efficient. There is a great variety of Greek and Mediterranean dishes in the menu with fish, lamb, chicken, beef and many options in the vegan and vegetarian section too. They have a good selection of wines, spirits as well as coffee. The prices are high but then you are enjoying a fine dining experience.

The service was great, and the menu seems impressive, however after having been there on a few separate occasions I have to say that for what you are paying, the food here is simply not worth it. I paid $25 for a seafood linguini and the sauce was nearly flavorless, the portions were fine, but for a 'fine dining' experience this place is just not worth the price. Friendly clean environment & helpful doting staff. Great range of menu items. Tasty mushroom caps, but a bit too cheesy. Steak special and Rib eye steaks were delicious! Background elevator music was initially fine but then really annoying after a while. Not sure why this was used but seemed pointless!

An amazing and fancy place that is sure to impress. Greek and classic chic! Parking can be difficult, and I can almost guarantee that you'll need a reservation. But it's well worth it for such delicious and quality food. The food itself is mouth-watering. Expect to pay around $20-30 for your main dish/entree, but it's a very good sized portion and I've never gone away hungry. If you're looking for ideas, the escargot can be a neat appy, and their moussaka is wonderfully rich and hearty main dish. Pair it up with their limoncello mix for a very Greek meal, although their blue Caribbean martini is absolutely stellar as well. As for desert, the bianco blanco (ice cream with raspberry center and white chocolate shell) is ever popular. Atmosphere wise, it's a bit of an older establishment, but that's for the better. I find many 'fancy' places to be quite raucous; not so here! A nice view if the surrounding area and even Departure Bay. I can't say anything bad about the service. The ladies are very friendly, fast, and professional. If you're thinking about coming here, please do. Dress up, calm down, and enjoy a relaxing evening and stellar meal here.

Used to be Great. Now its over priced and the steaks are tough. Prices also skyrocketed. Not worth it. Wont be returning. Also it tends to be cold in the restaurant.

I had rib eye steak with Rose wine, both were perfect. The view from the restaurant is very pleasant and relaxing the furniture is in good condition and very comfortable. Service was very proffesional. Recommended easily.

Good Greek food. The calamari was great as an appetizer, both ways. The bbq sauce on the bacon-wrapped prawns overwhelmed the dish. Moussaka had a potato-y taste and was not stellar. Prices were a bit higher than expected, but the restaurant is spacious and good for a larger group.
