I thought the food was good, but not exceptional either. Its very expensive given the location in south Nanaimo next to the highway in a building that hasn't been renovated since the 70s, but they are charging like its in a high end location in Vancouver or Victoria with an ocean or city view. Frankly I wouldn't rush back as there are much better options out there

Sirloin steak was tender and cooked a perfect medium rare. Loved the warm bread, starter salad (great blue cheese dressing) and lots of vegetables served with the meal. Langostine, scallops and lobster were all very delicious.

This restaurant is straight out of the 70s but not in a bad way. I find it actually adds to the dining experience. The food is really good but avoid the mixed drinks that involve juice from the slush machine as they taste stale. Also could be a good idea to call ahead as they seem to do a lot of private events. Overall, definitely worth going to.

Went for dinner with another couple. Like others have said, the décor is very dated and not very clean. The other couple had the salmon dinner and a rib dinner. Both were happy with their meals. I had checked the menu from their on-line website for The Bold Knight. and was happy to see scampi on offer. When we were given the menus in the restaurant not only did they not have scampi on the menu, (apparently they haven't served it for years) but all the prices were $2-$5 higher than on the website. I mentioned this to the waitress and she said that the management were going to update the website, still NOT done. My husband ordered a drink and it never came, it was a virgin ceasar , but the alcohol drinks came very fast. The young lady bussing the tables obviously does not know that you do not clear away plates until all have finished. As soon as she saw someone done with their dinner she had no problem reaching over someone else to take their plate away. I had the seafood platter, the most expensive meal on the menu, all the seafood (lobster, crab, scallops, prawns) seemed to just have been steamed together. the potatoes and asparagus were good. My husband had the chicken pacific, he said it was ok, but the baked potato was so very tiny it looked lost on the plate. Overall the food quality does not match up with the prices. Very overpriced for what you are getting.

The raspberry martini was fabulous. They make the best stuffed mushrooms I've had; didn't skimp on the seafood and it didn't have an overwhelming cream cheese flavor as other restaurants tend to. Two of us shared the Bold Knight seafood Platter which had a decent amount of lobster, crab legs, prawn and scallops. I would have rated them a 4 but our server seemed to forget about us after an hour. I had to go up to the bar to ask for a second glass of water and then had to go up again to pay my bill. I found this odd only because the table right next to us was receiving regular attention from their server. The prices were fair and their space had a vintage, classic feel to it. Make sure you book a reservation as Covid law has limited the available number of tables.Cheers!

I have recently arrived here in Canada from the United States after an entire life of working and enjoying restaurants. The chef who I suspect is the owner, based on a few comments from the girls, is remarkable in his ability to create a taste and a wonderful dish. Find your way to this place and you will not be disappointed in any way whatsoever.

Waited years to come here and tonight we did. Now I know why we waited so long. We have heard great reviews about Bold Knight over the years and figured if it lasted this long it must be GOOD! Not! My expectations were to high and we thought it would be first class with the pride of a chief who cooked from scratch. Sadly to many things on the menu came from the freezer. If we wanted that we would have gone to the Ricky's down the street. If your a Foodie there are other establishments in town where they do make things from scratch and are proud to do so and not for anymore money.

Their website showed a closing time of 11pm. At 10pm we made it there and they apologized that they were closing early for carpet cleaning. Upon learning we were from out of town and had cabbed over because they were open later than other nearby options, they seated and served us with a smile on their face. The food was amazing, their service was stellar and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. The NY striploin rivaled anything I've had in Alberta and it was grilled beautifully.

Birthday Supper. Ordered 2 cocktails and escargot in mushroom caps. Sent back over cooked. Ordered King crab legs and top sirloin steak. Wife ordered steak and tiger prawns. Both steaks were really tough. Served 4 King crab legs. Hardly any meat in the first 2. Not happy!!! Sent everything back and told us they would only replace the steak. Left after paying $60.00 for no supper. We feel very let down after going there for 30 years. They had a very large amount of people in their main lounge who were being looked after. We were the only ones in the front booth. We very much felt left out the table cleaner was looking out for us more so than the waitress. We used to love going there but after tonight will not be going back. We wanted my husbands birthday to be special but that didn’t happen and it was too late to go elsewhere..

We hadn't been to the Bold Knight in probably 10 years. Food was amazing! Courses were well paced, food was fresh and hot! Excellent seafood. Steak perfectly cooked. Great cocktails. Service was very good. I gave it four stars only because I feel the decor could use some updating and freshening up. It was clean and welcoming but a makeover would go a long way. We will definately go back!

Omg! The best prawn and lobster souvlaki ever ???? Firstly, they bring hot buns with garlic butter, then a salad to start. Main dish comes with rice, lemon potatoes, veggies along with the greek salad, but I chose to leave out the carbs, shown in picture, and had the Greek salad, veggies, prawn and lobster souvlaki. Everything was amazing and you definitely get a large serving, so you definitely leave there full and satisfied.

The food was excellent! My father said that it was the most tender steak he'd ever eaten...and he's 81 which is high praise. The staff was absolutely outstanding and went WAY over and above our expectations. We really appreciated everything they did for us. Thank you so much for your kindness. (In all fairness I didn't pay because of a staff party) but my experience with the staff was awesome very attentive and accurate and our party involved over 50 people so there was a lot of pressure out on they and as far as I could tell they seem to keep up with the random people who just happened to be there at the same time.... as for my meal I ordered a steak with a blue cheese sauce and a baked potato both of which were exceptionally prepared and came very quickly, at least under the circumstances... I also ordered a rum and coke which was responsibly priced and nicely strong lol... overall I will definitely be returning and would highly recommend trying it out

Oysters Rockefeller were disappointing. When visiting Nanaimo we have always made a point of dining at the Bold Knight, and particularly to order my favorite 'Oysters Rockefeller'. We like the place, the people and the food. This time not so much. The oysters were large, soft, mushy and had a strong flavor. The bacon bits had hard-to-chew, larger bits/chunks (like the pre-packaged Hormel products) which overpowered the flavor and detracted from the dish . I know this sounds picky but one expects better when ordering a fine dining dish like this. It has been much nicer in the past.

I brought my second son to Bold Knight for his birthday dinner and it still stands as our favourite steak and seafood house in the Nanaimo region. My son had his favourite Moscow Mule beverage served in the traditional copper mug. The tossed salad is fresh and crispy and the bread loaf warm and fragrant. I had my usual New York Steak with baked potato, and my son had the Dungeness Crab with Lobster Tail and rice. Both meals were superb. My steak was thick, juicy and incredibly tender. I ordered Bearnaise sauce which was creamy and hot, but only used about half. There was nothing wrong with it. It was delicious. It's just that their steaks stand so well by themselves. They are aged to perfection, cut and trimmed with skill, seasoned with a very gentle hand, and grilled with just enough char to seal in the juices. Their steaks are a study in perfection. My son's crab was delicate and sweet and his lobster tail meaty and tender. For dessert I had mud pie with a cappuccino, and my son had another Moscow Mule. It was a wonderful birthday supper. The staff are all wonderful and our server was a sweetheart. It was excellent value and well worth a premium gratuity. I took my youngest son to The Bold Knight Restaurant for an early dinner on a Friday evening and we were promptly and courteously seated at a table of our choice. One of the many benefits of arriving early to any restaurant. We ordered New York steaks with baked potato and vegetables, which came with bread and a tossed salad. The rosemary loaf was hot, fresh and delicious with whipped butter. The salad was very good, as was their blue cheese dressing. The steaks were very thick, juicy, flavourful, scrumptious and cooked to order, much to our delight. My son had Steak Oscar and I had peppercorn glaze with mushrooms, both were excellent. The potatoes were hot, buttery and were loaded with ingredients of our choice. Veggies were perfectly hot and crisp. My son had their apple pie for dessert which came with a streusel top, and sides of whipped cream and ice cream and looked awesome. The service was spot on friendly, attentive and warm. I honestly cannot understand the bad reviews. Is it expensive? Seriously? You get what you pay for. Is the atmosphere old school? Yes, it is. Wonderfully. Unashamedly. I haven't been to a restaurant like this in many years. It was amazing. We've found our local Nanaimo steak house, and we'll be back.

I was visiting Nanaimo the week of January 21-26 and being from Colorado we love steak because we don’t have super fresh seafood. After asking around we found the Bold Knight. It was nice inside but a little dated. The waitress was outstanding. There were three of us and we ordered prawns, mushrooms and calamari for apps. it all came out hot and delicious. Both of us men ordered steak and my wife ordered more prawns. The strip steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely the steak itself was absolutely top shelf. My buddy’s steak looked great also. My wife was over the top liking the prawns but the potato was too butterey for her Go try it you won’t be disappointed!!!

Not sure why this is only a 3.4 star place as it was amazing. I'm not much for seafood but I liked the bacon wrapped scallops and my prawns I got with my steak. The steak was cooked well and the peppercorn sauce was good though kind of different that it was just a side to dip into. The service was great, friendly and attractive girls helps but they also were doing rounds quite often so you were never waiting. Was the first place I've ate in at nanaimo and now everything else has a lot to compete with. Would go there every time I visit.

This place is a 5 star for seniors, but a 3 star for anyone younger. My grandmother is over the moon for this restaurant. I found the appetizers to be excellent and the main average. The decor is very dated, but adds a kind of personality to the place. Our waitress was lovely, but didn't pick up the cash from our table and that confused my grandma because she didn't want to walk away and leave the cash there.

My husband and I had our 7th anniversary yesterday and my husband took me to the Bold knight restaurant for dinner as he thought it would be nice bcuz we had our reception their 7 years ago...it was a very nice thing he tried to do. Now i am a person that puts up with alot just grin and bare it type. How ever i have to say something cuz it was AWFUL!!! My french onion soup tasted like a greasy beef broth with a ton of onions the toast and cheese were burnt it was gross. After that we waited over an hour to get our dinners i had the 8oz filet mignon it was so thin not even an inch and tough it was DISGUSTING. I can cook a blade steak and have it melt like butter in your mouth. Their steak i dont even think it was a filet mignon. I would have given a 0 rating but it makes it so you have to click on a star to be able to speak my mind. I will Never be back as long as i live. Just gross food, lousy service and a true disappointment.

The experience at the Bold Knight was unusual. Not bad, certainly ordinary. You're paying top dollar for the food so you expect kind of a high end restaurant but it's certainly not that. Our prawn appetizer was very good. I ordered the featured steak and lobster for around $46. The steak was sirloin, not the tenderest of cuts, flavoured with seasoning salt. I ordered it rare, most of it was closer to blue rare. For the money, I expect my steak done perfectly. The lobster was good cooked just right but the dipping butter, if that's in fact what it was, tasted oddly off. Not pleasant, didn't eat it. Service started out well and then got kinda weird. By the time I had eaten the appetizer and a salad the servers kept removing my cutlery so when my entree arrived all I had left was a knife. Despite a server oddly hovering around and seemingly checking tables for something, my missing cutlery was not spotted and I had to grab a set from the next table. No one checked how my meal was until I was half way through the steak. At one point a dessert was delivered to the table, they mistakenly thought it was my birthday. All smiles, I mentioned that it was not my birthday and the conversation became very awkward. She left the dessert but mildly complained she was going to have to sort this out. The dessert was ice cream with a chemical tasting "chocolate" sauce with whipped cream and a cherry. Nice thought but pretty cheap...just sayin. This was our first visit to the Bold Knight, I'm afraid it will also be our last. I wouldn't say it was a bad experience, just not worth it.

It was amazing, presentation was very pleasing. The seafood was SO fresh and tasty. The prawns, lobster, crab, scallops were so plump and tender. It came with a a hot butter "tower" to dip the Seafood in. We came in around 5pm on a weekend without a reservation. Yet we were welcomed in (next time I'll make a reservation) The wait staff were very friendly and attentive.

They advertised their summer special to have buck a shuck oysters, which is the reason why we stopped in. When we got there, they said they did not have them, which was a huge disappointment. The waitress did a good job. Ended up staying and ordering the seafood platter, seafood chowder (would recommend highly) and lobster tail. All was good, just a bummer they did not have the special as advertised.

We are regular diners here. This was the first time our service lacked big time. When we first arrived the server came up and asked for our orders instantly, no introduction or offer for beverages and appetizers first. We had to ask for our potato toppings, 2 salad plates and 1 dinner plate got taken when our dessert was brought and one dessert with coffee wasn't brought. Our server constantly dissapeared and the busser did most of the serving. No second offering of a drink, and when we left there wasn't a soul in the front area.

Wonderful meal! Steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection, prawns were massive, everything else was fresh and presented well with an excellent value for the cost. If you want to jet back in time when you went to a fancy restaurant with your folks this is the place! Dated but was very clean. Retro dining is chic when the food is this good! Good ambiance but dinner took forever. We were there for 2.5 hours and it wasn't that busy. Excellent ceasar salad, and the food was good but I found the Ribs on the small side. I've paid less for larger orders of ribs and usually am so full I take some home.. not this time. The price to eat here combined with the time it took for everything isn't worth another visit for me anytime soon. However I also wouldn't say to not eat here.. seems like a well established resgaurant just maybe I just didn't have the best 1st experience with everything combined.

Restaurant has a renaissance vibe to its decor. The food was delicious and the price not quite so as it’s in the steep end so prepare to spend. The service was good but our waitress at the end of the service gave us a snub look which was quite disappointing so -1 for that. But all in all would recommend for some good seafood and steak

I ordered a steak and lobster dinner to be delivered to my Mom at her nursing home for mother's day. Wow, she was so happy. The steak was done to perfection and so tender. She has dentures so it's difficult for her to eat steak but it was perfect. It was delivered exactly on time and she said it was the best meal she ever ate. Thanks for making her day so special. I will definitely order again.

An absolutely wonderful night out...we had steaks done to perfection, and seafood was to die for! Oh and they had a nanaimo chocolate martini that stole my heart! Its sweet and chocolatey and can totally be a desert drink as it has chunks of actual nanaimo bar in it....my all time favourite drink so far!! Staff was great and efficient and even worked around my service pup! I would actually give this a 4.5 star rating as all 4 of us loved our meals!

I went with a group at lunch for a retirement party. The service was below average: the server spilled a glass of wine on somebody at my table. They didn't apologize, but they were quick to move us to a new table. The peppercorn stir fry had great flavor and the beef in it was incredible. The amount of rice was shockingly small since it is so cheap. Came with a salad with gross dressing. Five out of the six of us had bad tasting dressing and the server did not make sure one guests steak was not on his sandwich, something he specifically asked for. Overall the beef is fantastic, but the service is very below average and the place looks like it was decorated in 1985. If

My food was very good! I had the seafood platter. My husband ate the crab legs and said they tasted like they had been previous frozen. My lobster was perfect though! The scallops were lovely. My Greek salad was yummy as well. I did find the prices quite high for the quantities though. The seafood chowder was delicious and the clams were very tender. The restaurant itself was very dated. Jennifer’s service was AMAZING! Thanks!
