The food is exceptional! I had the chicken souvlaki meal the first time I ordered and this last time we ordered the Greek platter for 2. We substituted the lamb for a 2nd chicken souvlaki but the homemade hummus is the best I've had anywhere, the pita is so tasty and wow is the spanikapita was wonderful. My husband had the camellari which he said was great. This has now become my favourite place and I look forward to ordering again! The benefit of an individual meal or the platter is that there is enough leftovers for 1 or 2 more meals too! On top of the amazing food is fantastic customer service even just for ordering to go meals while dine in isn't an option. Can't wait to go back!

When there with a large group of coworkers to celebrate a friends retirement/last day. I live within walking distance and have never been there. Was surprised by the amazing service, outstanding food and moderate prices. Great place! The garlic prawns are amazing.

Hands-down the best Greek food I've had in B.C., spanikopita and calamari were on point, lamb and chicken cooked to perfection, lemon roasted potatoes and home made hummus... the list goes on. I think we also got a slice of cheesecake for free? Amazing service, great vibes, clearly a family owned place of the highest caliber. Well done everyone ????

We ordered the platter for two, which probably could have fed 3 people. Great price and the food was really good. All the dishes were very flavourful, the lemon potatoes were some of the best I've had. We got mango cheesecake for dessert, the cheesecake was delicious and it had real mango puree on top which was good enough to drink. We look forward to coming back and trying new dishes next time we're in Nanaimo.

The lamb I had was massive and very tasty. The wine they recommended was very good value and really nice to drink. If I can't find it in my neighbourhood then I will pick up some more from here the next time I am in Nanaimo. I also dropped a fork and the server was in the other room, heard it and quickly came over and replaced it before I could even say anything to anyone. Then the chef toured all the tables to check out how we are doing and even give us a free tasting of the cheesecake. Well recommended. I can't wait to go back

Wednesday Curry Chicken Today I came in to Alexandra's for an Indian style curry. It was the best curry in town!! I pad $9.95, plus tax and the plate was HUGE! The naan bread was delicious and the curry sauce was SO good. It was totally authentic and it even came with a ceaser salad, I will be back soon!!

We had come here twice before, amazing experience. Something happened though. I tried the veal marsala, my partner had the chicken marsala. Bruschetta to start, was dripping in oil and very salty, as if they had just been scooping from the bottom of the barrel. The marsala was far too sweet for both of us, leaving our stomachs feeling very upset, both of us have great, iron stomachs. My veal was a ground veal patty, not a cutlet like one would hope as the point of veal isn't just the flavor but the texture and tenderness. The server stated it's normally done like this. I was hoping the Alfredo would be their shaving grace but it was so little and just tasted like it came from a jar. I never complain about my food and never share concerns with servers because I just feel bad but I let her know our thoughts. She was amazing at least. Very apologetic Now it's off to the can as my body DOESN'T agree with this poor choice of a meal. *UPDATE* Both of us have terrible stomachs aches still from the meal, both of us had the marsala sauce so I'm guessing something was off with it.

BEST Butter Chicken hands down... fantastic curry dishes and pasta as well, a pleasure to go for dinner... I would recommend starting with the prawns and mushrooms in the white cream sauce (cambrati funghi?) AWESOME!!! you will not be disappointed when you go have dinner at alexandras!!!

My friends and family order from Alexandra's at least once a month and it's always consistently delicious and so filling! The portion sizes are excellent for people as active as we are, and if there are any leftovers they often taste even better the next day. We've worked our way through a significant portion of their menu but their chicken souvaki is a classic that's part of our order every time. The staff are lovely and boy do they know how to cook Greek comfort food. I highly recommend this place!

Nanaimo how could you do me like this, 4.7 for this place? Ordered the prawn souvlaki for take out and I picked it up early, 5 min from my house. The serving size was small (most Greek meals I have left overs, the portions are so big!), too much lemon on the potatoes and prawns, prawns were soggy (but not over or undercooked), and the vegetables for the iconic Greek salad were from last week at the earliest. Seriously don't know how this got a 4.7, We'll be trying the other places in town after this. Very friendly service but unfortunately that doesn't make up for very average food, sorry guys.

WOW!! My favourite place in all of Nanaimo! Would recommend to everyone! I went with 3 other people and all of us loved our food. The service was fast and great and our server was very accommodating with all our requests. It felt super safe since everyone was wearing masks and all the tables/ chairs were bleached after each use. I had the, I believe, the Vitello Marsala and it was to die for! I order this dish every time I come in, which is a lot lol. My boyfriend had the Bombay Mango Curry Prawn and he was stuffed! So many flavours and such a unique pasta, you would not be able to find it anywhere else in all of Nanaimo. The other two had the Greek Platter and there was so much food! Left overs for the next day! They said it was the best in town and we have have tried all the greek places here. They also brought in a cheesecake and baklava yum! All in all, would recommend everyone to come in and try at least once!

The coffee was absolutely horrible, but EVERYTHING else was fantastic. The Mombay curried prawn in curry sauce was just superb. It was served in probably the best tasting penne I have ever had. The tzaziki and pita was just a wonderful appetizer too. The food was good, the service was good - all for a fair price. Just don't try the coffee.

Feb 15, 2019, belated Valentine's dinner, what a treat. The food was delicious, tastiest butter chicken ever and Greek platter was incredible and generous. The owner acknowledged us both coming in and leaving, and the waiter was friendly and efficient. The chocolate mango cheesecake to share was the perfect end to a great experience. First time here, will definitely repeat!

We love going to Alexandra's for date night. Great little local restaurant and we've never had a bad meal there. Always delicious food and great service. Tonight was no different. Highly recommend the Gambretti con Funghi for an appetizer and their Souvlaki. The Lemony Greek potatoes are to die for. The owner is super friendly and would always come by the table to make sure you loved everything pre-covid. From what i can tell it really is a family run business from the kitchen to front of staff. If you haven't been yet definitely check it out.

Very nice little place. Spacious, yet cozy. Cute interior, could use a little re-polishing, I could design it. They had suitable decor. The woman's bathroom was really quite gross. ( I'm so surprised how many restaurants don't keep their bathrooms properly.). It needs a good scrubbing, and an upgrade, I'm sorry to say. The food was delicious. The Big Fat Greek Platter for 2 is really quite a generous size. I added a couple extra skewers of lamb as three of us shared it. (And we still couldn't finish it) The service was nice. Bubbly, friendly, and accommodating. We had an appetizer that had mushrooms, cream sauce, big prawns with pita and it was amazing. I would go there again to try other menu items.

Was at Alexandra's Bistro the other night with my family, we ordered hummus and pita to start and the hummus was the best I ever had! Next came out was our pastas, which were of course delicious as well. The sauces were absolutely delicious, when I expressed this I was told they make all their sauces in house from scratch! I have been there a few times now and everything I have tried has been excellent! Not to mention the great service and friendly staff. If you're looking for some great Greek and Italian (they have curry too!) Check out Alexandra's , you will not be dissapointed !

Being from out of town it can sometimes be difficult to find a nice cozy restaurant with good food and atmosphere in any town. I lucked out coming to Alexandra's Bistro in Nanaimo because I was treated to both! The food I had was amazingly good considering it was like a gourmet meal for under $10. My friend and I had Souvlaki and we both loved it. I had the chicken while my friend had the lamb souvlaki. We had Caesar salad as the side and the taste of the salad was wonderful; REALLY nice Caesar dressing with all the fixin's to make for a beautiful meal at half the price one might normally pay at an expensive restaurant. I really like this place and I will definitely be returning.

Had the Calamari Luciano to start - wow! Had the Platter for Two for our main - wow wow!! The lamb was succulent and perfectly cooked. Was expecting the chicken to be dry like most restaurants, but it was juicy! Pita bread is absolutely special, most pita is just dry bread but this was freshly baked. Every bite of the platter was amazing. And the platter was very generous in portion, three or four people could have been full from it.

I went to Alexandra's Bistro with my friends a couple nights ago and it was so good! I ordered the Bombay Mango Curry Prawn Pasta and it was so delicious and flavourful! This is the best place I have had pasta from. My friends ordered the Calamari dinner and the Scampi Divalo and they loved every bit of it. The meals leaved us stuffed and lunch for the next day. The service was super friendly and followed COVID-19 safety precautions. I loved how the chef came out and greeted each table and checked if we liked the food. This is the best place I have had food from and I will definitely be back with more friends!

Alexandra's is by far the BEST greek food in Nanaimo!!!. 2 nights ago my husband ordered for take out the chicken souvlaki meals and he was a little late in getting there by closing time so he finally got there and thought the owners would be upset but they welcomed him so kindly. The food was amazing so good you might want to order an extra skewr of the chicken lol if you can eat it that is! The portions are huge. Our new favourite place and we live in Errington. Very welcoming place with amazing Mediterranean food! We walked in short on time due to a scheduled ferry, but they were able to accommodate, recommended some quicker orders, and boy, were they quick! Quality did not suffer, our food was amazing. It’s also their anniversary, and they gave us some pie to celebrate. This will definitely be my stop for a before-ferry quality meal.

I have always had amazing food experiences when I have gone in person. Unfortunately, I can't recommend eating here for take out/pick up. I had ordered a single dish along with an appetizer for takeout, The total came out to about 70$, which would have been fine if the food wasn't so overcooked that I stopped eating after a few bites. So the 2 stars are in reference to how they treat take out orders with seemingly a lot less care, and considering the price is the same as if I were to dine in I expect the same quality of food.

A group of 8 of us went during the Christmas season, the restaurant was very busy but the service was never less then exceptional. The front staff were very quick at getting orders taken and making drinks. The kitchen was also very fast, did not have to wait for a long amount of time even though both sides were packed. We all ordered different dishes and all of them were very tasty and well priced! the most expensive dish was $24.00, (kleftiko I think) which in my opinion is a reasonable price when ordering a large meaty dish. Much cheaper than other places here. It came with so much stuff: rice, potato, pita, salad, and the dip! I had leftovers for the next day! Two of my friends shared the Greek Platter for 2. It was sooo big! 100% worth the price! There was so much food, basically all their Greek dishes but in one large platter. Everything on the plate was cooked perfectly, not one thing to complain about. They ordered it with the Moussaka and had the calamari as an appetizer, which is the best way to do it. At the end we all got to share a slice of mango cheesecake, which came with the platter! So yummy and beautifully decorated. This is the best Mediterranean restaurant in town, so much better than the overpriced Asteras. Service 5/5 Food 5/5 Overall atmosphere 5/5

EXCELLENT, Best Restaurant!!! I came here for my birthday with my friends. I ordered Pesto Tortellini and it was mind blowing! since one of my friend was gluten free, she had the Gluten free Penne Pasta and she loved it. My other friend ordered the Roast Lamb Kleftiko and she found it very tasty!. The service of this restaurant is wonderful. Last but not least we had Tira Misu for dessert, it is home made and it is wondeful. Alexandra's Bistro is one of the best Greek Italian Restaurants in Nanaimo! I know for sure I will be coming back.

First time eating Greek food in a restaurant. Maybe I'm not used to the taste of Greek food, but I ordered the Greek platter and it tasted pretty average. Potato tasted good but chicken was kinda dry; lamb, calamari, spanokopita, and hummus was decent; pita was bland. Came with a complimentary slice of cheesecake and that was pretty good. Didn't try their Italian food but I will update my review if necessary when I do.

If you like lamb, order the Kleftika - roasted, falling off the bone, deliciousness! Portions were generous but lamb was tough. I expected my lamb to be soft and tender with braising jus it wasn't . I couldn't eat the greek salad as the cucumbers were mushy. I even mentioned it but the excuse was that they are not in season...bright lights were not the most ambient. Too many nationalities on the menu.Do one cuisine properly and do it well. I would suggest that they drop the Italian, Greek,east Indian and focus on one. If the owner is East IndIan stick with that. Overall not terrible but was disappointed and even though I couldn't eat the food entirely for those reasons was charged full price. All those great reviews I read must come from diners that don't get enough.

SPECIAL!!! Saganaki was the best I've ever had as was the Greek salad with tzatziki dressing. Even the rice was moist and flavorful. Mustard herb roasted lamb was SO GOOD, and deconstructed moussaka with bechamel custard was amazing! They even threw in cheesecake with mango puree which was a real treat. We had lamb curry and moussaka. Both were excellent. There was so much that we had to take the surplus home and enjoy it the next day. The service was very friendly and accurate. One of the cooks came to greet us and the manager also said hello. The decor was nice, although the washroom was somewhat dark and dreary. It was worth delaying our return home from Nanaimo until they opened.

This was our first visit and I’m sure we’ll be back! More reasonably priced than other Greek restaurants in the area. Great variety of food as well. We got the baked cheese dish to start and omg it was amazing!!! Definitely will order again! We had prawn and lamb souvlaki and they were both great. Tons of cheese on the Greek salad which in my opinion was fantastic. They said they were solder busy when we arrived but we were stetted right away and our food can’t out very quickly. Servers were a bit slow with refills. But again nothing to complain about. Can’t wait to come back!

This place is definitely one of my favorite go to places in Nanaimo. The service is impeccable, food is always fresh and delicious and the chef comes out to greet the guests and ask how your dining experience is going. I thought this was such a thoughtful gesture and a touch of class. They serve Greek and Indian food, we opted for the Greek. I had the prawn souvlaki and my partner had the chicken souvlaki. Each came with Greek salad, lemon potato, rice, pita bread and tzatziki sauce and was very plentiful. You will definitely leave there full and satisfied! I highly recommend this place for your next dining pleasure. Definitely worth the 5 stars!

The food was really good but the service wasn't as good. We had a reservation but the host didn't look it up, just asked 'for 2?' twice and then sat us by the kitchen/bar and deserted us. We waited for at least 10 minutes before anyone checked in to see if we wanted drinks, we ordeed and waited nearly as long for water and a beer. The food arrived very quickly, however. This has been our experience every time we've eaten here.

Me and my family went in for dinner one evening. We started with hummus and pita as an appetizer. The hummus was amazing and you can tell its made in the restaurant. I had the voldostano with a greek salad as my meal. Voldostano is similar to chicken parm except there are mushrooms baked in with the cheese and sauce. My meal was fantastic! Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My kids had baked spaghetti with meatballs and chicken fettuccine. They loved it! The portions sizes were good and the prices were very reasonable. The kids were even surprised with free ice cream for dessert. We all enjoyed our meals and will be back soon to try more!

I thought I had to accept that good service in the Nanaimo food industry simply did not exist. I am grateful to report back that I've been proven wrong at Alexandra's Bistro. Yes, the food is good. Yes, the value is there. But let's really take a moment to admire the service I witnessed and experienced. We were seated swiftly by a server, who I don't believe ever stopped smiling the entire time we were there. No pushy upsell on specials or anything uncomfortable in the age of covid. Tables surrounding me sat down 5-10mins after us. Unfortunately, there must have been a miscommunication of servers to which tables because these 2 tables did not even have their orders taken till our food arrived, 15mins or so after our orders were taken. When the server finally arrived to check on the 2 tables, she was extremely apologetic and got ahead of the poor experience thus far with comp'd cheesecake and drinks. Also kudos to the 2 couples for being so cool. At the end of our meal, the server mouthed the words "ice cream" and pointed to our kids. She said it was complementary and although free is great, the stand out gesture was that she asked the parents in a way that didn't trap us with having to give sugar before bed time! I obliged and the surprise for the kids was met with, "can we come back again?!" mighty loudly. Take note, every other restaurant in Nanaimo! They spent 50 cents and earned repeat customers. I must also mention I was awarded with cheesecake at the end, so yeah. They've secured all of us for a future visit. Also the chef came out to check on us. Amazing!

My family and I were in Nanaimo on vacation and decided to get take out from Alexandra's Bistro one night for dinner. Let me tell you...we were not disappointed! We ordered the Greek Platter for Two and got more than enough food for 2 adults and 1 toddler. They even threw in a couple of complementary items which was so generous and kind. The lemon roasted potatoes were delicious and their hummus is probably the best I've ever had in my life. With the platter you get all of your favorite Greek dishes in one meal. If you're in the Nanaimo area and have a craving for some authentic and fresh Greek food, Alexandra's Bistro is the place to be.

Dreadful meal. I ordered the Veal Marsala - obviously expecting to be served a nice piece of Veal. Wrong. A platter was served with ground meat with gravy swimming on top. After two bites I could eat no more. A terrible gut bomb serving. When the Owner was asked if they were indeed serving ground meat rather than a Veal cutlet he stated "That is how we serve Veal here. We don't ever have any complaints". If that is true, then either no one orders the Veal, or the customers who do have never had Veal anywhere else. BTW - the owner did nothing with the bill, charging full price for the dreadful, uneaten meal.

1st & Last visit. The flavourless chicken souvlaki was burnt, dry and pasty like it had been soaking in water before cooking - certainly no olive oil involved. The undercooked potato piece came a few minutes later on a separate plate. The salad was uninspired with dry grated feta and no flavour. Everything else was just plain bland including the unseasoned rice. I’m thinking the fact that this Greek restaurant also serves curry may be the reason that the authenticity of a well cooked Greek meal didn’t come thru. The real problem wasn’t the flavourless food but the attitude of the self professed “Cook” - whom I believe may have been the owner. It was a cold blustery damp autumn day and it was freezing cold in the restaurant and most of the customers were bundled in their jackets while eating ( even the table top was like a slab of ice). My husband noticed the back door was open. We asked the waitress If it could be closed bcs every time the front door open the wi d whipped thru. The “cook” came out and told us he was hot in the back so he wouldn’t close it. We asked if the comfort of all the customers mattered and he essentially said no it didn’t because he wouldn’t close the door. Rude rude rude.

We started off with Calamari Fritti, Delicious. For my main meal I had Kleftiko and was not disappointed. The greek salad was fresh and crisp. Sept 21/2019 I had Prawn Fettuccine with garlic toast. Very good, hit the spot for a dinner meal. One if my favourite places for dinner in Nanaimo.

Took the family there for my wife's birthday a couple of days ago. We had the Greek Platter for 2 - it was fantastic. A few things I'd never tried before but they were all good, even the eggplant thing. Kids being kids had spaghetti and chicken fingers, but it was nice that they have those options so they were happy. Staff was friendly, and the owner greeted us and had a few laughs with the kids. Not a cheap night out, but would highly recommend for a special occasion dinner.

Was hungry for Greek food Ordered chicken souvlaki. $.1995. A 1/2 piece of pita 1/2 a potato and a tiny bowl of tsaziki that didn’t make it past the bread. Ordered a glass of red wine to keep warm while I waited asked for house wine 795 for the glass. 31.00and some sense. Dinner for 1. Went to quality foods for pita and tzatsiki. A weeks souvlaki for 3100. Left hungry. Won’t be back.

I found Alexandras on the Internet and chose it both for its location and menu. When I arrived (30 minutes away from home), I realized I didn't have my purse. I had left it at home. The owner (and Chef), Bobby was so kind to me, he let me have dinner on trust that he would eventually get paid. (And of course I did pay him). How often do you see such kindness these days. I will definitely be returning not only for their friendly attitude but the food was great. I had the greek salad with chicken and it was perfect. Thank you.

Absolutely excellent food, and the best customer service I have received in years. The owners are clearly extremely passionate about their food, and it absolutely shows in the quality of the dishes that come out of that kitchen. This is the best hummus and souvlaki I have had in YEARS. I actually ordered another full hummus starter with my souvlaki leftovers, it was that good. My mom ordered the curry hot, and it was actually as hot she likes it! That has never happened at any other restaurant; she always wishes it was hotter. But Alexandra’s Bistro has perfected it. I don’t live in Nanaimo, but I will definitely be driving the hour and a half just to enjoy their food. Really, it’s not just enjoying their food. The miraculous, gourmet and extraordinary experience they give their patrons? It’s an event, not a meal. It is a culinary event.

We had been craving Greek food all week, & were delighted with our delicious platter for 2!! The helpings were massive, in fact we still have 2 full co trainers in the fridge. The calamari is made fresh when you come to pick it up! Light batter, melts in your mouth! Support our local restaurants everyone ! 10/10 for us. Lunch today at Alexandra's Bistro! A wonderful treat for the appetite, I chose the Chicken Marsala consisting of a perfectly flavoured sauce with Marsala wine and delectable mushrooms. This entrée was accompanied by a Greek salad consisting of fresh ,crisp, tomatoes, cucumber ,onion & kalamata olive dusted generously with mouth watering feta and highlighted by fresh lemon. What can I say but MMM delicious! A fabulously friendly server server and a relaxed atmosphere made for a great lunch experience. The prices are very attractive for great food of this quality. Definitely worthwhile .

Had my first meal there last night - the Greek Platter for 2, to go. It was awesome! There was so much food and each dish was excellent. Of special note was the spanokopita, best I have ever had. I have only had the lasagne at this restaurant but it was so good, I had to post. I had a hard time deciding between 3 and 4 stars because although it is likely the best meat, tomato based lasagne I’ve had, the price is a little high and I dare say it has an almost lethal salt content judging from the dry mouth I get.. Wonderful dining experience at Alexandra's Bistro in Nanaimo on November 07, 2020 with my wife and son. We phoned ahead and they had one table available for reservation. We felt very comfortable as we entered as we were greeted with warm smiles and salutations and directed to our table. The decor was clean and modern and the bathrooms were spotless and stylish. The staff was prompt and had menus and drinks on our way shortly after arriving. We decided on sharing a platter for 2 between the 3 of us with a nice calamari appy. My son loved his blueberry milkshake and we both enjoyed our chai teas. Truly, the best calamari we've had on Vancouver Island, and we order calamari appy to start at every restaurant that offers it. The platter was phenomenal and we were able to finish every bite, which was perfect since we still had some adventures and a long drive back to Honeymoon Bay later. It was refreshing to see 'chef', the owner come and greet each table and inquire how their meals were, and he visited just long enough to make you feel appreciated. The staff were over and beyond friendly considering the busy dining room and the many constant take-out order customers that were walking in the door. Highly recommended if you desire some good quality food, fare, and interaction....

Bobby is a super nice proprietor and he welcomed us to Nanaimo with a free piece of cake! An unexpected pleasure! We were only looking for a fast lunch that wasn't hamburgers, but found a characterful restaurant with excellent food. The Greek platter for two included fresh bread (delicious!), lemon potatoes (delicious!), chicken and lamb skewers (really nice marinade), calamari (fresh, sweet and crisp, not greasy) and the nicest hummus I've had. And the homemade cheesecake with homemade mango coulis and dark chocolate sauce is fabulous. Highly recommended, we look forward to eating there again.

I went to Alexandra's with my best friend and we had the greatest restaurant experience ever. Alexandra's has such a great ambiance, with very nice paintings and decorations. The only thing that could top the cute décor was the food itself! I had the pesto tortellini with chicken added in and it was so scrumptious. The cheese filling had the perfect balance with the pesto cream sauce and I had to stop myself from licking my bowl. With friendly staff, a wide variety of dishes (and at a reasonably good price too) I rate it 5 stars, and a must go for any food lover in the area.

Calamari was amazing! Hubby and I shared a platter for 2 and there was so much food we couldn't finish it, which is rare because my husband eats a lot! Everything was fresh and delicious! Will definitely eat here again.
