This Restaurant corresponds to the category of Chinese restaurant.
Exellent food.Great service from Tara our waitress.
It was Sunday night, around 7.30pm, in Midland, and most of the restaurants were closed on Sunday, or had already closed for the day. Luckily this restaurant was still open. We had read that is a local’s favorite. They have an extensive menu, and the establishment looks very clean. Service was good. The best part was the authentic flavors of good quality Chinese food. The beef and Chinese greens was light and tasty, with a juicy brown sauce, that was not thicken with cornstarch as many other Chinese restaurants do. Their house lo mein was very tasty and it was not oily. The portions are good size and the prices are affordable.
“Sometimes ok. Not great. Last time I was there it was awful. Will not return. Too expensive for the quality of food.” I updated this review from one star to 4 stars. I was browsing my reviews and realized I inadvertently mistook Uncle Roy’s for Uncle Bob’s in Barrie. The food at Uncle Roy’s was good and the service was great. Sorry about that Uncle Roy.
perfect service all around, nice people fast and reliable. Thanks uncle roys
The dai dop voi eas mostly cabbage. The beef fried rice was bland and had not much else except rice, and a few pieces of beef. The deep fried wontons left much to be desired. Oh, and they charge for tea. So this bill with 2 hot and sour soups was 60 bucks.. not worth it at all. The waitress was nice but we had to wait for this garbage they sold us and called it food.
Waitress was unable to fufill our order. Food was almost raw. Order was far from correct. Made me sick afterwards.
I called Uncle Roy's looking for help securing a special dish for my girlfriend, who was up in Midland for work, for a Chinese cultural festival. They didn't have one immediately on hand, but found a way to get it in short order, and promptly called me back to confirm that they could help me out and deliver it to where she was staying. In contrast, the other two restaurants in town that could have potentially helped simply said "No" (and one hung up on me). Next time I am in town, Uncle Roy's is at the top of my list for places to go and I look forward to visiting their establishment in person.
Lots of food. Good value. Family friendly
Crowd pleasing food. Not greasy! Every item we ordered was excellent, (especially compared to another Midland restaurant that put like 3 vegetables in the lo mein) This is the best Chinese in town!
Never had a bad meal there
Slow service. Waited 30 minutes for breakfast to be served. (Not busy, few people there?). Food was good.
Very clean. Good food. Terrific lunch specials. Happy Aunt on her Birthday!
Good sized servings for a decent price. The food wasn't amazing but it was still good.
Excellent combos and delicious food, quick delivery and excellent service ????
Did not eat here today. Had I known that it was phone orders only I would have called ahead but, I did not know this and so, my husband and I went to Uncle Roy’s and when we went inside we were rudely told to go use our cell phone to try to call her to place an order because she was busy with 2 lines already. Well, if you are too busy to take my order when I’m standing in front of you I am not going to go waste my time trying to call to place an order. See you when you are open fully for business again.
I love this place, it's my favorite Chinese food restaurant ever. I also like that they have a variety of items on the menu so that when I bring my kids with me they can get a burger or chicken or a grilled cheese and fries. The staff there are nice and the service has always been good.
Food was delicious and good prices.
Clean and friendly. Food was fresh and gave good portions. :)
Love the menu. Great food.
Always friendly staff impressive service, Best Chinese food in Midland, great options for canadian, with COVID they are very on top of cleanliness and handling of food and money transactions, I like that they call us when the food is ready. Always a happy customer at uncle Roy's.Not to mention Roy and Pauline themselves are incredible people.
Not very good. Pros: -If you go during the lunch special you can make your own combination plate -Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls were good -Portion sizes were good Cons: -Price vs quality makes just makes it not worth going there for dinner. -It's not nearly as good as other Chinese restaurants in town. -Walked away pretty disappointed with the tastes of our meal, and pretty disappointed with cost it incurred. Had the food tasted better then the cost would have been alright if a little pricier than other places. My dinning partner said their lunch options were good, so on that assumption we went there but arrived a little too late for the lunch special so we ordered the dinner for 2 + won ton soup. The egg rolls were just so so (not great, but not the worst I've had). The won ton soup was just not good, lacking seasoning/taste. The sweet and sour chicken balls were good. The chicken fried rice was just okay. The chicken chop suey I myself didn't like (more of a sour+savoury taste that I just don't particularly like), but my dinning partner thought it was okay. Maybe it's worth trying if you can make your own combination plate? Try at your own risk. I would not recommend Uncle Roy's. There are much better Chinese places in town.
The Chinese Food was excellent i thought I was eating mandarin and funny enough they sell burgers.
Awesome owners..great customer service and greatest fod ever.
Fantastic family run small business in Midland. Classic Canadian Chinese food that comes in large portions for a good price. All the classics are done well here - chicken balls, egg rolls, chicken fried rice etc. Although most food is deep fried, it's not overly greasy. Great for a family feast.
The portions are plentiful but the price is simply not justifiable for the quality and ambiance.
Food was super good. Really friendly waitress. Only complaint was everything was worth a pretty penny. :)
Visiting from out of town for Butter tart Festival. Went in for lunch. Tables not cleared. Found one and we were asked to please wait for a smaller table because we didn't understand their system. We left. Not a great way to treat a vistor.
Very good egg rolls. It was good, but on the expensive side for Chinese in our area. Most dishes are in the $12-18 range. our order consisted of: 3 egg rolls mushroom fried rice honey garlic chicken balls (the sauce seemed to be more sweet & sour than HG) beef, broccoli and Black beam sauce (was so so) pork, veg & almonds... almonds and beef were few and far between. our bill was more than $60 for three people... expensive for us
Cold food, wrong order.go to double happiness. Cheaper much better overall
Nice family restaurant. Good food. Pleasant, attentive service. Reasonable prices. Convenient. Located downtown Midland on King St.
Good service. So-so food. I had the Eggs Benedict... maybe a mistake: sauce was clearly from a package. Home fries were also not the best though, which was surprising in a place that seems like it would get greasy spoon fare right.
Love the food and love the atmosphere and friendly service
Good food , service , priced right !! Nothing to complain about ...
You know what I love? One waitress, three chefs, and a very expensive chinese dinner. First off, the quality of service was ridiculous- We were pushed back to last in the line multiple times, until we shifted a few inches, to which we had to wait another 15 minutes. Of course, right after we placed our order and had even paid, she excused herself to go wait more tables. I noticed on the side it had said 'Prices are going up in 2018', but that still does not justify 90.00 for chinese, unless we get literal heaping portions that will last us for days. The front desk was understaffed. I also love chefs that don't cough into their arm when they cook. Yum, Yum.
Called 20 minutes before closing and they couldn't have been nicer. Helped me with my order, food arrived fast, hot and good. Will definitely order from here from now on!
Hands down the best Chinese food in Midland... the entire area for that matter. It's comfort food at its finest.
One of the more decent Chinese restaurants in Midland, which offers more than just Chinese food. Service is friendly and the food is tasty. You can't go wrong grabbing a bite to eat here.
Good service, delicious food & reasonable prices...very accomadating!
Far better than i expected - a little mild on the heat, but good quality food, friendly staff and great prices. Recommended.
Always a great spot to have breakfast.
Ordered dinner for 5 and first issue was the price, 2nd was despite advertising free delivery for anyone living in Midland we were charged extra for delivery. Next when the food arrived 90 mins later it was barely warm. This dinner was ordered for a special occasion and I was very dissappointed. $140 later we are all pretty sure we won't order from Roy's Restaurant again.
I used to go for Breakfast and now with coronavirus I have not been since closure because of coronavirus. But there food is real good.
Excellent Chinese food. Well worth it.
I don't think i've ever had such good Chinese food. We always make a point of going here when we're spending time at the cottage, but I must admit we have made the 1.5 hr drive just to go here for dinner. Food is excellent, staff are friendly and it's a comfortable atmosphere.
Still the best Chinese food in town
Food good but supposedly oldest Chinese food resturant in Midland didn't wow us. Place was clean & ok but I was hoping 4 more...
Not impressed by the service. Ordered dinner and there was little flies moving in the rice. Disgusted needless to say. Will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Lost a customer.
Did not like the way they handled our complaint of the food having a foul odour. The chef said thats the way its supposed to smell. Wrong! Both me and my husband could smell the stench right away. It was always our favourite dish so we knew how it was supposed to smell. Turned out it was the broccoli. It had definitely turned. Very disappointed in the chefs handling of the situation. As I said the second they put the dish on the table we looked at each other and said wow, whats that smell? We kept sniffing it to determine what the culprit was. Waitress brought the chef out. I said rhus is my favorite dish I know how its supposed to smell. He didnt offer ro make a new one or even take it off the bill. Not impressed.
We had take away and even thou there wasn't await and the food was hot and service was friendly the food had little taste.
Crappy food didn't taste fresh, prices we're high I would never recommend nor go back to this place .
My experience wasnt a very good one. The food came cold and i had to return the wonton soup as it was cold. The egg roll was luke warm. They also cook with msg which isnt a healthy product to use.
We as a group of up to 30 retired electricians go there every second month and have for some years if it wasn't good we would have found a different place to go. Breakfast is good have no idea how the rest of the meals are
So apparently this is the king po chicken now? Vegetables are extra. Even thought the co trainers have GTC on it. Dont ask for unbreaded, you will get breaded anyway. And dont call and ask for the proper item, you will get the waitress arguing back, then the owner calls you back to argue with you some more.
I Got 6 take out dishes and it cost $86. When we got home we noticed our lemon sauce wasn't in the bag. I live 20 mins away, I wasn't driving back. When I called they played the "my manager will call you back" needless to say never heard back. The General Tso's chicken taste the same as sweet and sour chicken balls. Save your money. Not worth it!
Very disappointed, my husband's birthday & our boys bought Chinese for $100.00 & didn't feed 5 adults. No taste & egg rolls were over cooked. Not much meat in the dishes.
Poor food. Over priced. Small portions. Not impressed with the overall take out meal.
It was awful! I paid 25$ for my meal, which didn't include rice. It was supposed to be shrimp with scallops and mixed veggies. The ingredients were mostly bell peppers with onions, 3 tiny scallops and rest were canned mushrooms and corn with imitation crab! It was gross. I've never had such bad Chinese food. Poor ingredients, bad taste and gloomy atmosphere. Stay away!
Great breakfast, wonderful service and even better Chinese food
Took my family from out of town to uncle roys. My mother in law ordered chicken fried rice. They brought her beef fried rice. When she mentioned that it was wrong the waitress argued with her, when we all heard what she ordered. She never exchanged it for the proper order. The food was not as good as it use to be. I will never go back or recommend Uncle Roys again. I was embarrassed.
We’ve been going to Roy’s for many years even when my parents were alive we went once a week. Now with COVID we do take out. Every time we order the food is constantly excellent whoever is in the kitchen takes pride in their work. We tried the competition when we couldn’t order from Roy’s and we were not impressed at all. So if you want the best Chinese food in southern Ontario it definitely Uncle Roy’s I’m Midland. Thank you.
Uncle Roy's Restaraunt is a quint place to dine in the downtown corridor of Midland 's merchants. Very friendly service. Always a favorite to get your take out as well.
Love Uncle Roy's - always great food !!!! never would go anywhere else. Their Dai Dop Voy
Took the family for brunch and was very pleased with our meal. The restaurant had plenty of seating (and options to accommodate our infant in his car seat), and the servers were cheerful and friendly. The timing of our plates coming out was slightly staggared (about 5 minutes from the 1st plate arriving to the last), but everyone's food was hot and cooked perfectly when we received it, so we didn't mind. Plates ordered were: French toast with bacon, Hungry Man's breakfast, fish and chips, and beef liver with mashed potatoes. Everything was excellent and we will certainly be visiting Uncle Roy's more often.
Terrible food and awful service. Expected a tip for takeout service. 4 dinners purchased and had to beg for one packet of soya sauce.
Our server Holly was very friendly happy n helpful! It was clean, the food was hot n very good! Will def go back.
Excellent food! We ordered take out tonight, and were extremely satisfied. Restaurant is very clean, staff are friendly and polite. Our first time ordering dinner there. The food was fresh and very delicious. Will definetly be ordering from here all the time!
Good food. Served nice and hot. Friendly staff. Will go again.
Awesome food. Service a little slow. Busy on takeout orders. Was worth the wait.
Meh. 60's style "chinese canadian food". I am sure if you have never been to any of the many authentic chinese restaurants in the GTA, and lived your life mostly north of highway 9, you might like it. Otherwise, forget about getting great chinese food in this area.
The food's really good and the hostess make the trip worthwhile
The food was excellant the service was wonderfull and the staff were so helpful and friendly.
Great food gone here for years, would not recommend eating in as there is much yelling from kitchen
Twice this year had bad food , first time hair under my ham it was breakfast,,,,second time maggots in my rice ,,eeeee omg ,,so
Love this place! By far the best Chinese food in the area... I've tried them all and this one is hands down best price, portions, service and the food taste amazing! Easy to order and unlike other local Chinese food places they let you substitute. (Not a fan of shrimp in general) highly recommended ????
Huge mistake ordering on Valentine's Day. Was told my slot was 7:30 to pick up. Food was finally ready at 8:20....if I hadn't already paid for it I would have left. Was offered 10% off next order. Bahahahahahha!!! In all seriousness, all the staff had to say was that they were busyand they were trying. A little placating would have gone a long way. Lesson learned.
the service was fast & friendly..the food was great..was our 3rd time here.. will difinitly go back
I HIGHLY recommend this place. Amazing quality food and a friendly old school style of restaurant. Dont miss out when you visit or Live in Midland.
I've never drank in here, maybe the ambience is great, maybe the bar food is. Their take on Chinese take out? No. Just no.
Way too expensive for two people. Free delivery over 45$ is ludicrous!
Do not even think aboit eating at roys tje food is terible the sweet n sour pork is dried out n then batterd its sp bad i had to get origel for my gums the rice is warmed over from another plate the sweet n sour sauce os burnt brown not a red like most this place should be shut down period
