REVIEWS OF Boathouse Eatery IN Midland

Varun Sai Poluru

Nice patio and a very big restaurant. Wait times are very less and you get the food right immediately and overall I would say a good place, you should visit this place when you are on Midland. Talking about food, had a good pizza and chicken pasta ????

Kalpesh Sharma

Burger was great, especially the sauce that was used in it. Sandwich was not that great but it was okay. Spent a great nite wid my woman.

Grace M

The view and the food were both spectacular! Friendly service, attention to details and a solid covid plan in place. Would absolutely return!

Jon T

Seemed a bit overpriced for what it was. Burger patty definitely didn't seem home made at all. Odd for a burger listed as having bacon to have just one small strip down one side. Fish duo was like an aromatic curry (smelled good) but nearly tasteless. Caesar salad was pretty good but rather small considering the extra cost. Fries were pretty good. Beer was great.

Patrick Duriez

Good food. Not cheap, but not too expensive either (4 entrées for a little more than a hundred dollars after tips and taxes). The food was good, although it seems they pared down the menu. We had fish and chips, some pasta, a pork chop and a sandwich. All the portions were quite generous. Service was decent, if a little slow. Space was great and allowed for plenty of distance between tables. Would recommend for a night in Midland.

Irfan Rashid

Great location with live music, average food, and average service. The staff needs to communicate better within themselves. Appetizers were served with no plates, then mains were brought out immediately after, making it difficult to eat on a small table. Food was brought out way too quickly to be made fresh to order, definitely some reheating or meals sitting "pre" prepared. Overall average experience, from the options available in the area, this restaurant is your best bet.

Melissa Schmitt

We can't eat with our dogs on the terrace... Outside... We never had this problem anywhere in the world before... The waitress told us to tie them to a bench at the entrance of the terrace... Never in a million years!

Kelly P

Atmosphere was so nice at the marina. Large patio and comfortable for large parties. Staff was pleasant and efficient! Definitely return again.

kristal abar

Absolutely beautiful lakeside dining ????..yummy food and amazing drinks ????..service was impeccable ????

Irshad Mulla

Great food, great view and good prices. We stopped by on a Friday evening in Fall and there was a nice heated patio for us to enjoy. The bruschetta and the seafood price was well worth the money. Freshly made and the service was impeccable. I would highly recommend this place for a night out when up cottaging in Tiny.

Barbara Gilbert

They dont have any gluten free options except salad. Most restaurants are on board with gf choices now. A lot of people have celiac disease and have to eat gf. It's not just a preference.

Don Adams

Food was good but if I am paying the premium for Halibut (Seafood Duo) I would expect Halibut- wasn't given halibut but a substitute. Didn't complain, paid my bill and left

Ali Saremi

The best restaurant in Midland. Food is pricy but it definitely worth it. Located at a convenient spots, with marina in proximity and many parking spots. Good came surprisingly fast, despite the fact that it was quite busy during our visit. Moreover, they have live music sometimes. Overall, I highly recommend Boathouse Eatery.

Perdita Chivers

Enjoyed a great lunch on the large patio. Lots of shade. Decent view of the water. Generous portions.

Sunny Liu

Great food, fairly decent service, and a wonderful view over Midland Harbour! My only gripe with this place is the rather high food prices, but I guess you are paying the tourist tax lol! Overall, very solid restaurant! Would recommend if you're looking for a sit down restaurant with decent food in the area.

Leigh Lewis

Great view and seated right away for lunch. The seafood rice was supposed to be cooked in white wine with garlic however it was served in butter with no white wine, garlic or any other type of seasoning. I agree with others, staff members are not addressing customers who get up and walk about without wearing masks in plain view.

Christin Adree

We dropped in for lunch, on one of our country cruises. This place seems to be popular with the skidoo crowd. The waitress tried hard to help us with our questions and was always nice and helpful. The creme boulet was wonderful, but extremely small for 7 bucks. The boutine was OK, but but nothing special. The interior invites for a longer stay, if you can afford it. Altogether,: worth visiting once.

Went to the Boathouse yet again and as always not disappointed. The service is impeccable and food is great. Atmosphere is always fantastic. Tonight, there was a family that were being difficult as they were looking for a shaded area in the patio. Unfortunately, this was not possible as, due to Covid restrictions, you cannot have more than 6 at the same table. They were not happy about it and the servers were very professional and tried to explain to them that they couldn’t accommodate their request. They unhappily sat at two different tables. Long story short, they changed tables three times to finally be able to sit in the shade at table beside each other. Karma is a you know what it it and the sun was all over them by the end of their dinner. Anyways, Taylor was their server and handled it extremely well. Taylor was also our server and she is truly a professional, courteous, friendly and one of the best we ever had.

I'm relatively local. My parents live in Penetang and have for many years. I visited them for the first time in many, many months Sunday, and we decided to catch the sunset from the patio of the Boathouse. Unfortunately, there were at least five adults from the same table that decided they did not need to mask when getting up, nor did they need to control their multitude of children (all under 5, as it appeared) from running around the patio and other patron's tables as though they were at a playground. All also unmasked. I should mention that this was around 9:30 pm. There were two elderly women enjoying (at least as best they could) a glass of wine together, and the patio was full. The aforementioned table of upwards of ten unmasked and generally inconsiderate people were not the only unmasked people permitted to go wherever they wanted within the facility and patio. Even in the before time, I would expect an establishment to monitor and take action on people who are inconsiderate and disruptive to the other patrons, but WE ARE STILL ON THE TAIL END OF A PANDEMIC. People's health is at risk! None of the staff said a word. When we raised concern to the "shift manager" we were told he would look in to it, or something to that effect. We were looking in to it, right then! When we questioned one of the unmasked adults, they said, quite rudely, "nobody told them they had to." Nobody should have to, it's the law, but they should have been bounced immediately for failure to meet this fundamental rule of consideration, AND IT"S THE LAW, especially if you want to be on a patio. We were so put off by the management of the situation we will never return, ever, which is unfortunate, as it's a nice view, but one better enjoyed via a walk along the beautiful waterfront and never from the Boathouse Eatery, which seems to cater to the ignorant with no regard for the health and welfare of its patrons or staff. If that had happened anywhere in my city, it would have been dealt with swiftly by the establishment. Maybe Midland is just really, really backwards. But I don't think so. This review is me taking one step back from actually reporting the restaurant. It's people's health at stake. Come. On.

The first time we dined here, they forgot about us and only delivered our meal (cold) when we found the waitress 45 min later. We thought it was likely just busy and an uncommon experience, so we booked again for our second wedding anniversary...only to show up to a dark and closed restaurant (apparently they decided to do kitchen maintenance that evening). They never called us to let us know or amended our reservation. Will not be going back.

Cindy Rumble

Amazing place. Very safe, with Covid. Food was worth coming back. Halibut Perfect. Boathouse Burger was so juicy. Customer Service, spot on. Over a hour drive, so worth it. Thank you.

Jeff Rubin

Nice place to have lunch by the water. Halibut and shrimp dish was really good. Service was quick and friendly.

Ralitza Iankova

Unbelievable views and patio atmosphere. Been coming with the fam a few summers in a row. Food has improved to the point it's worth having your birthday dinner here (go for seafood, their fish-n-chips are great). A must visit, if you are in the area!

Just okay…. Wife and I had a “meh” experience at the Boathouse. Food was cheap tasting, fries were freezer burnt and you can easily tell the quality just isn’t there. Nice staff and great location with a nice view of the marina. But unfortunately the cons out way the pros. I’d suggest this restaurant if you and your buddies want a “bar night” with some cold beers and music to go along with it. I don’t think I’d give it another chance, bill was expensive for bland food and bland service.

Adam Checketts

Nice people, cool atmosphere, burgers were good. Will have to try some other items. Entrees seemed pricey.

Karen Leiher

Not a terrible restaurant but didn't live up to the hype. View was great though on the patio.

Cathy Zeleniak

The patio is beautiful sunny shady and right on the water. They have trimmed their menu quite a bit which I guess was a covid thing. It's more like a fast food place that serves alcohol. I miss the dinner type menu. We went for dinner but it was more a lunch menu. I had the anchor burger with fries at $18.99. It was disappointing. For that price I would expect a fresh burger paddy not a preformed frozen one. The fries were good and I had the onion rings on my plate and not the burger. The service was great, lots of staff and they came by the table often to ask if there was anything needed. We might go back but only if the menu changes to reflex a chef in the kitchen.

Gil Strachan

Nice waterfront patio with great views, close to downtown, with tons of easy parking. Very hood food - hot and fast. Friendly and efficient service, nice atmosphere overall... my idea of a summer patio!

David Stefanie De Paolis

Serving size for adults almost identical to kids order. I ordered the same as my little one and it looked identical in serving size. Over priced for what you order. Food was okay. No home run. Need to try out mom's restaurant down the street. Be weary.

Amy Courser

I love this restaurant. Quick dingy ride from MBSC or Bayport Marina and always space at the wall to tie off. The food is amazing, you'll never leave hungry. The veggie burger is really good and I usually switch it out with the other hamburger options on the menu. Huge fan of the Cesar salad. Ok, and the margaritas ???? (which are not frozen) - my favourite's the classic but have a variety. Kids get a free scoop of Kawartha Dairy ice cream from the ice cream bar out front when they order a kid's meal (keep the receipt). Last Summer during COVID they were strict with safety protocols - which I appreciated. At that time the menu was very limited (TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE) but service was still top notch. Since reopening (summer 2021), they are back to full menu and amazing staff. Be kind, tip well. It's been a difficult time for restaurants and waitstaff.

Jim Lorriman

The patio only was available and it was a coolish evening so we decided on takeout. We ordered fish and chips. The food was excellent and the portions were generous. We ate in the car overlooking the Midland waterfront.

A Nash

Loved it!!! Delicious food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, very easy to meet new people! Close to everything.

Gary the Water Guy

Took the whole Water Store Midland staff to the Boathouse eatery for a Christmas dinner get together. Everyone was very happy with the great food and service. We'll be back.

Maxim Mikhailov

Very nice place! I’ve been here during winter, so might be slightly different during rush summer hours… Service was extremely fast and pleasant. Food was very delicious. Location was nice. Highly recommended! I’m definitely coming back for more :)

Monique Hubbard

Awesome food very clean would 100% go back

We were visiting from Toronto and while the food was absolutely delish, the service was average. We were given the oy table on the deck that didn't have any overhead covering. The sun was beating down on us and when we requested for a table with a little shade (cause at this point it was getting uncomfortable to eat because of the heat and we had an infant with us!) we were told it absolutely wasn't possible. While we do understand it was rush hour, we did see through the span of our meal over 6 tables that had no one on them for over 25mins! Overall that kinda brought down the whole experience :(

Honest Husky

Very DISAPPOINTING experience. The place looks really nice from the outside being right on the water BUT quality of food and service did not match. We ordered Seafood Alfredo and SHOCKINGLY when asked for Parmesan cheese which is considered a condiment (in every normal restaurant when ordering pasta/spaghetti) it was an extra charge of 1.95 (see the pic), which is crazy considering dish was 20.95 already. You would think for that price you deserve a little Parmesan being sprinkled upon request. The pasta was ok - nothing special, small portion and very little seafood. It also came with two pieces of garlic bread which were hard as a rock. French onion soup had huge piece of bread in a very small bowl which absorbed all liquid so that was disappointing as well. Anyway it’s not the worst place but it is definitely not worth the price. The conclusion is - don’t judge book but it’s cover.

Susan LeBlanc

Nice patio on the Georgian Bay waters. Inside has an old beer smell, but the staff are friendly and the food is decent. A nice beach town type establishment.

Siby M

I went to Boathouse eatery today evening. Even though food is good, we couldn't enjoy it. The place is full of spiders. It's crawling all over the place. Kids were really upset and the evening was spoiled. They should keep it clean since so many people are coming from outside the town for vacation.

Ana B

Beautiful patio area, great food, kind staff. Prices are average (maybe slightly higher end by $1-5 extra/meal). Portions are decent and there are good staples and appealing varieties. For the view, walking area for before or after, and good food, I’d say it was worth it.

Gordon Lawrence

Went to the Boathouse Rest. in Aug and ordered the Halibut and Chips The breading was thick and soggy with a flavour like corn meal not very good and it was advertised as Halibut but they had substituted some fish I had never heard of and it was not very good. My wife had the fish tacos which were very good. They did not charge me for the fish meal but it was very disappointing and I will not go back as they did not advise me of the substitution.

leslie miller

We are from out of town and our server was Elsa! She was the kindest server and went above and beyond for our meal, she made the whole experience that much better! Thank you for your service and being such a kind human!

Frances H

Great patio spot for excellent food and to enjoy a drink with a view.

Raddo Raddo

First time here. Came during covid 19 but stage 3 so dining in was an option. Server was friendly and food was ok. Nothing wrong with the food just that I was hoping for a bit more since they had such nice presentations. For example my burger was ok but it looked liked it came from frozen and not fresh but obviously the pizza is fresh. So overall I would still come as there are not many other options around really and I do recommend if you're in the area as well!

John Lucas

Our first time dining at Boathouse Eatery was a pleasant surprise. Fabulous burger & fixings. Great views of the harbour, very accommodating patio, but warm & cosy for inside inclement weather dining. Excellent, prompt & attentive, yet friendly service by Ken & Crew. We’ll definitely be back, when our travels bring us this way again.

I would give zero stars if I could. I am so upset by how I was treated at the Boathouse Eatery and as a result I will not be eating there ever again. On Tuesday, I called the restaurant to get information about making a reservation. The man on the phone said that it is first come first serve. They do not take reservations. No problem at all. He told me to come by 5pm to miss the lines. I let him know that we were coming on Thursday. He did not say that there was anything special going on just that we would be good to go at 5pm. Fast forward to Thursday night. We arrived at 5pm. As we were walking up the ice cream staff told us they were no longer seating at the restaurant due to a private event for golfers. This upset me as I was told there was no reservations. However, two girls ran off to check. I am unsure where they went. Then I went to the hostess to ask about getting a seat. She said you can sit but need to be out by 6pm. I was like okay but when I called they said no one is allowed reservations. She rudely said she did not know about the event until today. Then she demanded my name and phone number. I say "demanded" just to clarify the tone of her voice. I asked "why, will you be calling us when the table is ready". I was so taken aback that I forgot they needed for covid reasons. She said "it is for covid" and rolled her eyes. I said "no problem and gave my number"... Then she said "the only spot is in the sun ... soo..." (with a tone). As we were walking to our table, we past a bunch of tables in the shade that did not have reserve signs. Yes some had reserve signs (even though you can't make reservations?). So we proceed all the way to the back in the only table facing the sun. I decided to ask the manager if there were any other spots due to my dads medical issues with sun. The manager said no problem we have alot of space. Then the lady from the front sat someone behind us right in the spot we asked for! Made NO SENSE. We decided to leave and not eat there due to the fact that the staff made us feel like second class citizens. Will never return.

glenn callahan

Not happy. Ordered dill pickles. She said there wasn't any. But yet other people got it. Paid $6.95 for onion rings, should have been $2.49 with the meal I ordered. Food was not good for paying $75. Our first time and not impressed. Very disappointed for our first visit.

Melanie Harbridge

Great service!! Great food!! Great wine!!!

Teresa Harmidarow

Stopped off for lunch without prior reservations. Experienced a short wait but it was well worth it. I really enjoyed the sea food dish. Great location to enjoy the GBay views, and take in all the action of Midland Bay....I can't wait for live music to return. I would highly recommend it.

Tammy Light

For the price of the food the quality was sub par. Very limited menu options. On the positive the drinks were cold.

Grace Pruitt

Food was super tasty Good portion size Friendly atmosphere

Jackie Webb

The service was excellent. Our waiter was polite, fast, and very friendly. The food was awesome. We'll definately be back !!!

Rick Josey

Paul our server was great my wife and I shared an appetizer which was delicious and then she had a seafood dish and I had fish and chips. Both where amazing. We will be going back to try other things on their menu.

Andy Pizans

We drove from Orillia to Midland to go to a favorite spot in the harbour. We weren’t going for the food as it is mediocre at best but love the atmosphere. We expected a line up and was in the process of getting on the list. We let the gal at the door know we would like to sit at the bar when a couple rudely pushed by us and said they were going to the tiki bar. When we questioned why they were going ahead of us we were informed that there was a special area for locals. I guess the tourists and out of town supporters aren’t good enough for them. I hope there are enough locals to pay the bills. I’m sure there are places out there that will appreciate the business.

Gino Marrelli

Very cheap on the chicken... charge more or don’t bother serving it... beer was cold..and service was good...the seafood rice, however, was really good so l’ll Need to edit my overall to 3.5

Shaun

Sadly they were out of Erdinger and the pulled pork was dry with little flavour. Prices are high side. Great service. Good fries.

Mary Brown

Service was really good. Staff worked as a team, a friendly, smooth dining experience. Food was really great. Large piece of halibut and shrimp on a bed of coconut rice. Vegetables were fresh not frozen. Presentation was well done. Fish and chips - large piece of halibut, lightly breaded, not the typical greasy fish. Fresh cut fries. Lake views were really pretty. Afterwards you can stroll the marina area.

John Lacroix

Nice atmosphere, quick service. They ran out of fish and chips just before we ordered, so we had pizza, burgers, and onion rings. Kids pizza didn't come with a side, but they did get a free ice cream from the ice cream stand next door.

Marc Elbichon

We visited that restaurant a few weeks ago on the recommendation of the B&B we stayed at, I Can't say i was really impressed. We didnt get to see the view outside and probably never will The Drinks were good, but somehow due to Covid, our server was unable to give us our glasses, we had to grab them ourselves, after the server put the tray down on the table and took a few steps back. Again when the wine came I had to grab our the glasses as the server once again took 2 steps back. When the food came however, she dropped the plates down and went on with her business, then when she came back to pick up our empty glasses, she leaned over, to reach the glasses on each side, and left. This is a total failure of common sense as of course she had a mask on. Times are tough right now for everybody, servers included, but we didnt feel very welcomed trhoughhout the entire evening. The food itself, also wasn't very impressive. My wife ordered a Vegan Curry Tofu dish which came with a side of plain avocado puree and a handfull of teardrop tomatoes on the side of the plate, see picture attached (which by the way also doesnt make any sense). The whole dish had little to no flavor ( seasoning is key, chef !!) I had some pasta and it was ok. all in all, not much an experience and will not be back

Steve Handley

My wife and I went to Midland for the day Sept. 18, 2021. Very disappointed to find no outdoor eating options. This included boathouse eatery. The outdoor patio area was not inviting. Cheap plastic chairs and tables which were gross and meant even if the place was open we would not have eaten there.

Ron Reid

Extremely disappointed! Called ahead at 7:15 to find they had an hour wait and 9:30 was last order time. Being from out of town, we could have picked up take out on way home but we went back to hotel and changed. Family hungry after a long day out on boat. Turned away at the door at 8:45 with no line up as kitchen was closing soon.

Robert Brown

Great patio experience...good menu and quality of food...good wait staff and nice views

Tracey Clausi

Good varied menu. Our waitress was also the bartender so busy. Was very impressed that they had done some baking for cupcake day for SPCA to raise money for charity.

Ashley M

Overall very average experience. Vegan coconut tofu was okay but needed some hot sauce and burgers tasted frozen from a box. We thought it was strange that they didnt bring us water or ketchup after 3/4 orders had fries. Definitely not Ontario's largest lake front patio... Reasonable spot for a couple beers and some fries though. The ice cream was a great deal. We got a small and it was a much larger than we expected based on past reviews.

Adrian Brucker

Stopped in at the boathouse eatery while walking along the bay. The restaurant looked nice and the view of the water was quite spectacular. We were seated right away and we ordered a cider and a blueberry mojito (I definitely recommend the mojito). As for the food, we ordered the vegan coconut tofu and the chicken alfredo pasta. This was a mistake. The tofu and rice was absent of any flavour and the pasta was not great either. Not only did we not finish, we didn't even want to take it home. We did regret not getting a burger as we saw someone else order it and it looked good!

Mike Binns

Kids meal doesn't come with anything and the alfredo sauce was just cream. Doesn't "meal" mean that it comes with a side and drink? Thinking it came with fries so I ordered gravy, got the gravy and sent it back and was still charged for it. Thankfully for location and the tourists or else this place wouldn't make it a year.

Sharon Griffiths

Great place for lunch. Food was delicious. Nice view of the marina. Friendly staff.

Natalia Daskalov

We were a family of four. The food was good, but two of our plates had hair on it. The manager did not investigate or acknowledge the incident. Very disappointing. The meal was a bit overpriced for the quality of service.

ANDREW COMBES

Rock bottom selection of gin. Horribly overdone calamari. Salad had what appeared to be fruit pieces from a can and mixture of dry and sodden ingredients. Poor presentation. Had hoped for at least tolerable but was disappointed. And the flies were awful!
