I waited for 5 minutes and no one bothered to take my order or even make eye contact. I called over a staff member, she said she wasn't my server, brought me water and then I waited 10 more minutes but never met my actual server because no one made eye contact with me or approached me. There were about 4 other tables at the time. So after wasting a third of my lunch hour I left. Surprise, surprise, no one even noticed! ????

Great food. Unfortunately our soup arrived cold. It was quickly righted but a simple oversight. It was more difficult than expected to find gluten and lactose free on the menu but the waitress did have a list of gf options for us to look at. It was a bit loud in there to visit but could really appreciate the atmosphere maybe later in the evening. Turn up the lights for lunch perhaps as it was really dark and kind of odd for a lunch stop. Thanks for the meal overall we were pretty happy.

While they are okay if you go to the restaurant. DO NOT order take out, even if you use Skip the Dishes. In the last 2 weeks I ordered their Ramen soup with fried chicken. The first time they didn't pack the chicken and I let it go. This time they didn't pack the broth, ie. the soup part of the soup. Skip the Dishes did nothing except give me a $7 credit. Local was worse. I spoke with the manager and all I got was a oh so sorry but nothing we "can" do. What she really meant was there was nothing they"will" do.

This restaurant and bar is a great local place to visit if you find yourself in the downtown core of Medicine Hat. The food is excellent, and prices are very good. They have a good selection of drinks to choose from and specials are always good. The patio is very nice in the summer.

Let me start by saying this is not a one time event. I have been going to the local with my girlfriend at least once a week for the last year. I have also brought friends and family when they come from out of town because it is the only nice pub down town and 2 minutes from my house. I am not sure if people are scared to review this place because Medicine Hat is so small but after today I just had to say something as I am sick physically again from eating here. Some times the music is good some times it is bad some times it is way to loud with broken blown speakers. The food on the menu can be very good if prepared properly. Today specifically the salad my girlfriend ordered was brown the avocado was bad and brown and had bits of the outer avocado shell in the salad. The chips on top of the salad were stale. My burger very good but was either under cooked or they use very bad hygiene standards in the kitchen because I got very sick today. Other times we have been we tried to sit at the bar but there were too many small fly's so we had to move seats. We have never been greeted by anyone at the local over the last year that realized we had ever been there before the last year or even twice or 3 times that day. The management are very poor and have never greeted us or thanked us. The turn over with employees seem very high hence the inconsistent and untrained staff brings hit and miss service. Also the servers are rude and inattentive not once but consistently. The beer is warm and often they have served the wrong one and then argue that I don't know my beer. Wait time is unacceptable most times and I have to order my own beer from the bar after waiting more than 10-20 minutes. I don't know if I am spoiled because I have a brother who is a Michelin star chef in France or that I am cultured and have lived all over Canada and the world, but some things just need to be fixed and I hope the owner reads this and at least hires trained staff in the kitchen and front of house. or treats them better so they stick around. its not that hard to run a consistent quality restaurant which this should be based on price and atmosphere. I think its time for a beer at the local! The patio is unbeatable down town. Thanks!

Service can sometimes be a little lacking but I can't fault it when it's as busy as they get. Me and a friend regularly go here for wings. Their hot wings are the epitome of comfort food. We almost alwyas get the same waitress as well and she is an absolutely treat.

Im on a cross country cycling tour. After pedaling from Calgary for a couple days in the blazing heat I dropped in to the Local and took advantage of their half- tree-shaded-patio where I was able to keep an eye on my bike loaded with bags of gear. The ladies serving were friendly as well as helpfull and I chowed a big ol' burger and fries. My pet peeve restaurant wise is bad french fries. Well, ????????⚡⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐the fries were fantastic. The aioli and sauces were rear for dipping and lasted the whole time...no cheap tiny dollups that some joints charge for. burger was great too . Great beer selection....I'm back again today????

Great stop for some good grub. We had the sliders, eggs Benny and fish tacos. Portions were a good size; the eggs were cooked to perfection, the potatoes were also great and well seasoned. The coffee was the only disappointment. Worth the stop.

For anyone who enjoys some heat, try the LOCAL burger! Overall great experience. DJ spinning tunes all night, great service, board games as well as shuffleboard accessible to anyone. Only downside to the overall experience was how loud the music was. Very hard to have a conversation.

1 at best. Don't go if you want good service. Since reopening after covid haven't had a good experience. Talked with many friends and they said the same thing. Servers shouldn't be saying that you the customer is the issue after complaining. Plus don't advertise happy hour if you don't actually charge those prices or are you trying to scam. If you want a better experience downtown go to the Mezz or the Yard. Support real local.

Stopped by for a quick visit with a friend, and enjoyed the patio. The atmosphere is great, although the music was a bit loud and made conversation hard to hear without either of us having to raise our voices above normal. Prices were reasonable, and the service was great!

I have lunch here with my family at least once a week, and have done so for the past 2 years or so, since being introduced to it. This is one of the very few places in the Hat where you can order a steak sandwich rare, and get it that way! And I do... every week. On only 2 occasions out of more than 120 visits was there a miss, and it was quickly and cheerfully remedied. Staff are excellent... one of our favourite waitresses knows every item of the orders we place and simply checks "The usual?" each time we visit. The full range of the great menu is ecclectic and more than most Sports Bars offer. The reason we eat the same items every visit is not for lack of choice, it's because they're so darned delicious. The Local is OUR Local... make it yours, you won't be sorry.

Came here for a couple burgers and left thoroughly satisfied! The patties were cooked just right and were full of flavour. Whatever sauces they came with were an incredible addition to the burger, I couldn’t stop saying mmmmmm. The fries were okay, but I wish they were fresh cut and not the frozen kind. Lots of outdoor seating on the patio. Servers were very pleasant.

We were in Medicine Hat visiting family and they took us to The Local for lunch. Such a great vibe, awesome decor, and pleasant environment. Our server Alanna was friendly, prompt, and hospitable. I had the chicken sandwich and it was sooooo good. The dill slaw is such a good addition to the classic crispy chicken sandwich. Can't wait to pop in next time we are in town.

Great atmosphere, great Front of House staff. However, who ever is in charge of the kitchen/menu needs to be taught a lesson. The burgers are dryer than sawdust relying on their mayonnaise and veggies to simulate juiciness. The Huevos Rancheros is an absolute joke, and a slight against the Latino Culture as a whole. I believe that with proper training, and a Chef who knows what they're doing in a kitchen that this place can see true success one day.

I joined my brother, sister and some friends there for a somewhat late supper and drinks.my little sister was concerned that perhaps I wasnt polished up enough. I laughed at this and she sould know, its far more important to be polite, her turn to laugh Anyway despite my dirty clothes and mouth we were treated like royalty and everyone in our group was very satisfied with the food as Well. Those of us in the Hat know that for a causal meal with a beer or a glass of wine, we go to the Local. The staff hops, the place has great atmosphere and its more of the traditional style pub food but well done. Clean, reasonably priced and choice of indoor or outdoor dining. Highly recommended.

Living on the road is hard. You're away from family, friends and the comforts of home, in unfamiliar towns/cities left to take your chances on what's good. I had been to the Local(s) in Edmonton, the one in Toronto and the one in Vancouver and figured if it was anything like the others, it wouldn't be half bad. This location FAR exceeded my expectations. Food was great and what I had expected but what blew me away was the vibe of the place and hospitality of the staff. Every staff member I encountered was super friendly and helpful. It was my first time in Medicine Hat and I was staying at a dusty, roadside motel so my perception of the town was accordingly similar and rather negative. After some helpful pointers on places to see and things to do in the city, my time became much more enjoyable. The live music was always great from the bands to the DJ and the patio was top shelf. I look forward to an excuse to make it back here. When I arrived, I knew no one in town but by the end of my stay, thanks to this place (and the others I was directed to), I felt like a LOCAL! This place, to me, was a textbook example of what the hospitality industry ought to be about!

Service and kitchen are extremely slow. Ordered the local burger with fries, order took 40 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. It arrived cold (both fries and burger) as well as under cooked. Came a few other times in the week prior with similar service (over an hour for lunch).

Food was awesome as always. Service was sub par, attitude from the beginning. We booked a reso on Friday. I stood at the front for 5 mins while hostesses were too busy talking to notice or help. We ended up finding our table and the rest of the night continued similarly. Everything was a chore, we were an annoyance being there apparently. Paying with cash was an inconvenience because “I don’t have change”. Will be back, but won’t expect good service.

We go to Local every Saturday for lunch, the food is always great, love sitting on the patio when weather is good. But inside is nice also.

I was at local tonight with a few friends. We got awful service the entire time we were there. It wasn’t overly busy so the poor service wasn’t understandable. The food was relatively good. My bill came to $13.91, I paid with a $20 bill, and only received $5 back. I am unsure why the waitress didn’t give me the rest of my change ($1.09), as i hadn’t planned on nor verbally communicated to her that I was leaving a tip due to the poor service. I am less than impressed that it happened, though I am thankful that it wasn’t more than $2.

Everything in this establishment is grossly overpriced, food selection was very poor and portions sucked. our server didn't bother to check on us and wasn't the least bit friendly. Their only redeeming quality is the atmosphere but that's about it. Seriously, 4 dollars for a coffee? That's brutal.

Food was really good but when I asked for bill waitress came and didn't let me hold the tablet to pay she kind of hustle me during the payment especially tip time she made it so fast I didn't realize what I was tipping 20%, 22%, something ????. I think I gave 22%..

The food is top notch! Staff is great to deal with. It's not too often you see the owner out slinging beers. You can see they love what they do! The atmosphere is fantastic and they have no problem getting any game on!

Our favorite place by far - have yet to be disappointed whether dine in or take out for lunch. Best fish n chips (get the fat chips - insider tip) Burgers are hard to beat, and the Beer selection... need I say more. Exceptional Value and Service is top notch. If you don't like busy most of the time go uptown - but even when its busy its best!!

Food was gross and soggy tasted like chemicals, and maybe you should put on your menu what is ALL in it not only some of the ingredients ,waitress was rude and all over the place she took my friends order then walked away , when our other two friends showed she only took one of their drink orders then walked away and took forever to take our food order and when it was time to pay she would take one bill then walk away and wouldn’t see her for another 5 minutes very snobby do not recommend this place two times I’ve been has been horrible!

Great place to drink and eat. Good food excellent beer selection and cocktail menu with reasonable prices if your not looking for cheap cheap. Sometimes some wicked djs throw down some tasty tunes to add to the vibe. Usually pretty good service even though its quite busy almost always, and lets not forget the very photogenic serving staff that if all else fails is worth the visit. :)

Great staff who are more your friend or neighbor than your bartender or waitress/waiter. The food is really good, i personally love that local use mcdonalds style fries!! I also found their menu to be somewhat trendy with alot of modern creations while still having the more classic staple menu items like a bacon cheeseburger or a steak sandwhich. Overall local is a good place to go for just about any occasion, and overall a good place to fill your tummy!! I recommend this place to the other people out there viewing this.

Had a good time on the Local patio the other day. Had a good burger and enjoyed some local craft draft. Would have been 5 stars but the service was slow. I’ve come to expect this here. Really enjoyed the burger and beer though!

Had a meh experience. I had the curry chicken and found it quite bland and expensive for what I got. The decor is nice and the building is in a nice location downtown. Overall, I'll be trying out a new location next time I'm in town.

Was very busy but we had a reservation for four but only two of us showed up; while they could have requested us to move to a small table, they didn't which I thought was classy.

Slow service, it was ok but with prices like they have it could be a lot better, food was ok the fries were cold and stringy not even as good as fast food fries. We tried it but it's one of those places that is over priced and the food is not great.

Food is ok. Little pricey. I find their music is so loud you have to talk loud over it so you can pretty much hear everyone's conversation. Good selection of beer though

definitely do gastown, and definitely sit outside at Local Public Eatery. Crazy friendly service, people watching, and inexpensive... seriously after a major crying episode from Miku $$$$, this place was the best for comfort for the next day. seriously friendly service. get in sorta earlier 20-30 mins prime time of lunch and dinner... i am still sitting here

Not a great experience. Took an hour to get our food for 4 people. People who arrived after us received their food before us. The restaurant inside was empty so not sure on the long wait. Crunchy chicken sandwich which had been a favorite should be renamed to crunchy sandwich as chicken was almost non existent. Subbed out the fries for a salad for an extra charge. Very small portion compared to what was previously served. Overall not a satisfying experience.

The service is consistently terrible. food is average, however the fish tacos are well done. Basically just a place to drink at, but you'll be waiting 20 minutes inbetween drinks. Extra star for having a shuffleboard.

Went in at noon. Was pitch dark inside.Was seated at the side in a booth.Was a very high step up to the booth.Was so dark couldn't see step up. Stumbled and fell. Floor is cement uncovered. Hurt myself a lot. Having it that dark is totaly rediculous. I left and wont return.

Serves Guinness. Fun lively atmosphere. During the warmer days has a great outside seating area and stage for music acts. Inside the set ups pretty cool with a bar centre back. Foods good too.
