Absolutely fantastic dinner drinks and dessert. As a small town boy in the big city this blew me away. Fantastic dinner.

Hannah MacDonald

Elevated comfort food with great service. We arrived in the late evening and were seated in the lounge, which was lively and the faux fire place was nice on the cold night. Our plates (lamb pie and half chicken) were delicious and just the right amount. Great wine selection so I'd go for wine over beer. Pleasant service (thanks Max) and a nice atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

Rachel Reeves

The gnocchi and wild mushroom dip were amazing!! Love this place!

Talid Jalbout

Good value for some good food. Didn't try the charcuterie but from what I understand it's the house specialty. My plate did have one too many deep fried items on it, but can't complain about the taste. Recommended!

Cathy Bogaart

I had the rabbit ragout at the recommendation of the server, as I said I like “different” things. I rarely have rabbit and it had pickled mushrooms and a mustard-cherry sauce. It came together very nicely; I loved it. For dessert I was warned that the goat cheesecake was deconstructed as the sour cherry gelato came on the side and there were shortbread cookies. I incorporated them all into every bite and it was amazing! Much better than each separated, totally would have that again! I would go back and try other items. The service was good and I felt comfortable sitting in the bar area having dinner by myself.

Tina Lequier

The meal was absolutely delicious. The decor is very warm and welcoming. Our server was helpful and efficient except for the tea which was lukewarm and therefore never did steep properly.

Veena Manuel

Very quaint! Bit congested n loud..not for an intimate setting. Gluten free option available for the main course, which was nice.

Elena Elizabeth

Phenomenal quality! Some of the best food I've had from a restaurant. Very elevated and although it's a little pricey, it's definitely worth it. Great customer service and very friendly staff. I went out for dinner after my graduation and they gave me a free dessert! The creme brulee was amazing. Three main courses, an appetizer and drinks ended up being about $80 plus the free dessert which is pretty good for an upscale restaurant like Peasant Cookery. Overall a great experience.

Ryan Unrau

Very bland-tasting food at high-scale prices. The service is slightly above average.

Yanik Ottenbreit

Love this Winnipeg restaurant. Been over 10 times and always receive great service and delightful meals. Try the Pickerel BLT ♡

John Richardson

Very good with sweet vibe. Bison meatloaf was terrific and the lamb pie was delicious

What an incredible dining experience. Great little spot with amazing food and service. Highly recommended for a date night. The mussels are exceptional. Highly recommended!

Brent R.

Food is good. Service is good. Ordered 2 appetizers and 2 main dishes. Bill came to approximately CAD $100.

Daniel Soliven

HIGH END VENUE AND FOOD-GREAT STAFF

Stu McConnell

Always clean. Servers polite and professional. Food is consistent and excellent.

Rena Mathieson

Make sure to make a reservation!! They did manage to accommodate us (which was amazing and we definitely were appreciative). The bread to start with was perfection! Crispy outside and chewy in the middle. Our table had: Chicken livers to start. Strong liver taste, but still very good. We also had the Oysters. The vinegar and horseradish to accompy them was a good addition. The main courses: Half chicken was very tender, full of flavour, the chicken confit hash lacked a bit of something but was still good, the pudding (bread) was also very tasty. The Berkshire pork (waiter recommended) was very large and very tender. The meatballs were salty and the waiter replaced the meal with the Lamb pie which my friend enjoyed much more For dessert we shared the Bread pudding and Guinness Ice Cream. The ice cream was the huge winner here. It was simple perfection!!! Our waiter was quirky, fun and attentive!!!

Colton De Vos

Super friendly service. Been many times and it is always a fantastic experience. Food comes out quick. Nice menu. Helpful staff. Personally enjoyed the mussels.

Chris Rogoski

Have visited a few time and have always experienced really good service and some really great meals too.

Jensen Hoskie

Excellent atmosphere, service, and tasty food!! The Peasant burger w/mushrooms was excellent and very filling...looking forward to another visit w/different choice of meal!

We just received the Christmas eve dinner and it’s a big disappointment. We ordered for 3 adults and we got dinner for 2 persons. Everything is labeled clear for 2 ppl, we got turkey for 2 people, 2 soups and 2 desserts. If you advertise for 2-3 people you should be generous with the portions so three persons can eat or advise the customer the portions are extremely small and to get the next deal for 4-5 months ppl. What a big disappointment. I just called and the person ok the phone said “that’s what you get” (so rude) If I could give 0 stars I would. What a disaster… will need to figure it out something now and get take out. Worst experience ever!

Tony Kwok

Very good food with excellent and attentive service. Waitress gave us free dessert because we were there for a birthday. Deconstructed cheese cake was outstanding.

Greg Pool

Best wedding venue in Winnipeg IMHO. We were treated like royalty and anything we asked for, the staff were quick to respond with “Oh yeah, we can do that for you!!”. For smallish gatherings (we were 65), this place is perfect. Great bar service, attentive serving staff and the food was wonderful. The oyster bar was a huge hit with our guests. Highly recommended, especially for the friendly, intimate atmosphere.

The atmosphere was quite interesting and relaxing. A lot of history here. The service was second to none. My steak was ordered medium rare but arrived medium well. It took them only a few minutes to correct the mistake. The food was awesome. Great place to enjoy some fine dining!!

Muriel Dupuis

The food here was excellent. Its a great spot for a date night. It is chic, with a nice view of Winnipeg's Exchange District. They did not have any vegan entré options on the menu, but the chef will make something for you regardless (different every night). My partner had the Lamb Pie, he was in love. Service was good.

Matt Sletto

Amazing service. Best beef brisket ive ever had.

Emily CPY

This is a great place to share some appetizers and drinks before a concert or one of the festivals hosted in the Exchange District. The Charcuterie and Duck Bruschetta are especially good! The service here has been top notch every time I've been there, regardless of group size or time of day. It's best to plan ahead and make reservations as it tends to be difficult to get in on short notice. It is on the pricier side, but the food is delicious and they serve good portion sizes. I've often been disappointed with Gnocchi at restaurants, but their's is delicious. This is not a good place to take vegetarians.

Cameron Gray

This was our first time here and it did not let us down. The atmosphere is homey and comfortable. The charcuterie was awesome. They even adjusted it for my wife who is gluten free. I had the pork chop, it was humongous and so tender. My wife had the rabbit. Yummy. We both finished with the creme brule. Service was fantastic. Not too much be but very professional and friendly. We will be back.

Graham Rigby

Very good steak (photo is half of the order). Worth it to get a side of gravy. The goat cheese cheesecake is deconstructed and very tasty

Margaux Miller

Love the lounge here. Quaint and cozy. Great for a date night. Restaurant can accommodate large groups. Locally curated meats and cheeses. Craft cocktails and good beer selections. Definitely a recommend in Winnipeg.

Daniel Legal

Atmosphere is quiet and cozy, service and food were great. Home comfort food is definitely the best way to describe it. It was a toss up between the lamb pie or the rabbit ragout... I ended up having the lamb pie and it was very comforting and delicious.

Wai Chan

My favorite time to go was for buck a shuck which happens every Wednesday. They have half price charcuterie on Monday. I have a love/hate relationship with this place. When it's good, it can be very good. The food is very consistent. I'm sad they got rid of the beef bourguignon. Service has been hit and miss. They do have a new manager and the last time I went (within last week) the service was excellent. I need to go back a few more times to see if the new standards stick. I've had absolute terrible service as well which is why I couldn't give it a 5 for now (without some confirmation it wouldn't happen again) The following is an explanation of all the recent dishes I've had and took pictures of. Berkshire Pork was done very well. There is a lot of fat on there however, so if that's not your thing, you might want to skip it. If you like pork belly you'll probably really like this. The portion is very generous. Half chicken is tasty. Meat was moist. The cranberry vinegar provides a nice and balanced contrast. The last time i had the calamari I was underwhelmed. It was a bit limp. The flavor was ok, but I've had better elsewhere. Duck Bruschetta... they did the duck very well. I'm not a huge fan of bruschetta but as a change this was nice and done well. Mussels and frites. I have to say the fries are some of my favorites. This is my style. The last time I had it, it wasn't done as well as other times, but even mediocre for its normal standard, its still better than a lot of other places. The mussels were ok. Lots were very small, but you can't control what the stock you get in is sometimes. The bread they serve with your meal is very good. They have at least two kinds. One is a focaccia and the other I'm not sure? They serve it warm. If you're eating in the bar sometimes they don't automatically serve it with your food. So you might need to ask. Clam and bacon pasta... the one time I had it, I was undwhelmed. It probably didn't help that I had been to Italian restaurants that had very good pasta... Maybe they had an off day and it was just that one dish that was not up to its standard par? It was really dry... I personally won't be ordering it again. Profiteroles and Chevre cheesecake. The profiteroles are good, but the cheesecake really shines. I love goat cheese so I might be a bit biased. They do it very well here. One of my favorite desserts. Beef brisket. Exceptionally tender, they cook it till it flakes and breaks apart easily. I asked my friend who hails from Kansas City what he thought. He said it wasn't memorable enough either way. I thought it was solidly good, but maybe not fantastic. Charcuterie is where Peasant has excelled at. Chorizo meatballs was a skip for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavors. Neither was my friend. He did eat it all but wasn't loving it. Raw oysters is a must for buck a shuck (Wednesdays). Though at these small sizes, I would not want to pay $3 per piece. In Winnipeg however, I don't think there's much choice if you want oysters. Having recently gone to Omaha and having oysters at Plank, I see a comparison. The Copa. Picture of the drink is actually a non alcoholic one. I was very pleased to find they had a small list of non alcoholic beverages. There were only 3 mocktails, but its still nice to be remembered (I have an allergy). This pretty much tasted like a pina colada with a bit of a modification.

Whenever I am downtown Peasant Cookery is usually my lunch spot. Love the atmosphere, great food, service is prompt and professional.

Kartik Bharadwa

Just finished my meal and the service? Impeccable. Amazing staff who were super helpful and happy to discuss everything from the menu to the fishing in Gimly (sp?). I had the Pickerel which, to be honest, wasn't great as the Pickerel I had at my hotel, the Inn at the Forks was far, far superior. However, the beet salad I had beforehand was just about the best salad I've ever had. And I hate salad! The Maple Tart I had for dessert was tasty as hell. My dinner companions had the Sous Vide chicken which was apparently, amazing as was the albacore tuna. I regret not ordering the Tourtiere but I will definitely be back, a great evening, all told.

Jay Yarborough

Nice atmosphere and great food. The gnocchi was delicious, well prepared and nicely proportioned. They also had a great selection of beer, wine, and spirits. The restaurant was crowded on a Thursday, so reservations would be a good idea.

Nicole Pelletier

Wandered in with a friend after a Jets game. We each picked a few appetizers. The Onion soup and mussels were both amazing. We had the charcuterie with added cheese which was pretty tasty as well though I would have liked a bit more variety when it came to the meats served. We finished with the mushroom dip which was also lovely. Server was quick and attentive and the price point is decent for what you are served. I'll be back to explore more of the menu.

Luna D. K.

Great dinner spot with cozy atmosphere and comfy booths. We went for Wenesday Buck a shuck oyster and have two dozen oysters between two of us. Great selection of local and imported beer and wine. Fries are done very well and gravy sauce on the steak had deep flavors. I don't think we got the right cut of steak though, as it was quite chewy and we asked for medium rare but it was more on the rare side. Service was great and professional. Parking is easy with free 1 hour parking option for the city of Winnipeg.

Natasha Martens

Fine dining and interesting menu, we couldn't finish our meals but reaaaallly wanted to lol

Robert Tetlock

Very much enjoyed sharing small plates and wines at Peasant. Service was excellent, and food was over the top, as usual.

Sandra Hamilton

Beyond expectation! Even though I was a solo dinner, I was seated at a nice table beside the window and fireplace. The service was prompt and pleasant. The meal was savory and superb with large portions. I had the crusted pork with was done just enough to remain juicy and the entire dish was bursting with flavour. Definately recommend!

James Pither

Amazing service. I walked in with my girlfriend for lunch and we didn't have a ton of time, we just asked how long service would take and the manager instantly said that she'd tell our server we were in a rush. We were served within ten minutes. The food was great I had the onion soup and my girlfriend had the squash soup the squash soup tasted like Christmas and the onion soup was rich and delicious and not over salted, which a lot of places trouble with. The prices were dirt cheap for how good it was, $18 in all for two people, that's only slightly more than subway. I'm also so I highschool student so I was a little nervous that the staff would be pretentious or try to be rude because of our age, was not the case. Very impressed with the peasant cookery. Will definitely be returning.

Jake Marks

Who can resist their tasty little oysters and wonderful charcuterie. Great menu.

Greg

Definitely a must try restaurant. I went for lunch our group had the charcuterie to start which was a great selection of meats and pickles. The main was their steak sandwich which was perfectly cooked to my liking, well seasoned with a delicious accompanying sauce. Crème Brule for dessert which was also delicious. Service was very good. I would definitely return for a meal.

RichardandLynn Semeniuk

Awesome place. ???????????? Great place to get together with your friends and family and experience one of Winnipegs top notch restaurants.

Neil Neil

Had the most wonderful dinner tonight. Table of 6, all 6 people raved about their food. Great service, wonderful wine list and a menu done well.We will be back.

Bonnie Mykolshyn

3 1/2 - 4 Star--Open space concept - attentive server - had calamari and salmon entree - both very good. Choc puff dessert was not ideal, pastry too chewy for me. 2 other at the table said the clam dish, broth, was not the greatest.

Drew Hawranik

Best charcuterie anywhere I've been. I also recommend the bread pudding for dessert. UPDATE for Burger Week 2020: First off, I was ordering pickup so I can't comment on the service at my recent visit but in the dozen or so times I've been here, service has always been extremely good. One great thing Peasant Cookery does during Burger Week is allow customers to place a pickup order for a time later in the evening. This was really nice as we were in and out of the restaurant and ate in the beautiful Old Market Square. If you like lamb meat and goat cheese, this burger is for you. Although, the flavours are mild enough (likely from the pork in the patty and the other condiments) that if you aren't a huge fan of these flavours, you will still love it. The lamb porchetta was so delicious on its own, I just wanted a plate of it to fully appreciate it. The goat mozzarella was perfect. As was the beet BBQ sauce, which really upped the sweet. I couldn't find the yogurt sauce, but there was so much already going on with this burger I didn't mind that. The patty was very tender and juicy. The bun was good but started to get a bit soggy and almost fall apart from the juiciness of the burger and condiments. Overall, an outstanding Burger Week experience.

Shannon Fewster

Amazing. Rivals the food I've experienced in France. Order the goats cheese cheese cake. Trust me!

Gord Steindel

Good after theatre location. Interesting menu with excellent charcuterie.

Wendy Campbell

Excellent food, love the atmosphere and gluten free options!

Zoë M

I have found that PT offers real consistency in their experience. The food is not over the top, but delicious and satisfying. It's a spacious yet very cozy atmosphere with the windows lined with preserves. I have found the service to be very professional and warm every time. I just feel like they payed attention to detail and did everything right.

Laura Hanna

Of course we were there for "buck a shuck" They were fantastic! We decided to try the "fish sticks" Dont let the name fool you, they were the best beer battered fish I have every had!

Paige

I went for my birthday and our server, Melanie, was really fun and accommodating. The food is always great. Its in a beautiful building and has an interesting beer list, try a salad (the butter lettuce is a fave) or go for buck a shuck oysters on Wednesday evenings. I recommend a reservation as its a popular spot for Winnipeggers.

Lindsey Fancy

The service was the worst of any restaurant I have been to recently. Of our group of 4, two people said their food was okay, and the other two of us disliked it so much we didn't even finish. One meal was burnt and another was fatty and bland.

Kipkoech Choge

Had the best potato-leek soup in this spot. Service is 5 star! The food was simply amazing. I totally recommend this place. Explore, you will love it.

Michaël Tremblay

Amazing food and great selection of beer and wine. Menu was so good it was hard to choose. My friends had the bison meatloaf, beef brisket and lamb pie and were all very satisfied. I had the tourtière and was really impressed; it was not as good as my grandmother's but better than my mother's... Service was spotless; our waitress (I think her name was Natalie) was very knowledgeable and helpful. We never saw our glasses of water below half. Meals came quickly. Will definitely go again if I am in Winnipeg.

Edmund Laldin

Ambience is very pleasing. Servers are patient and attentive. However, we had to wait for almost an hour for main course to be served. With regards to food;I had duck bruschetta for an appetiser. Nicely roasted duck would have been excellent with some seasonings on it. Overall good plate and presentation. Main course was beef brisket which was disappointing to say the least. Beef was luke warm with enormous amount of bbq sauce on it. Sauce was tangy and overpowered baked beans, potatoes and green beans. I tasted beef without the sauce and again it lacked seasonings and flavour. I would have much preferred to have either beef grilled (char marks) with 1/8 of sauce on it or served hot with sauce on the side. So many innovative things can be done with brisket; unfortunately it wasn't innovative at all. Dessert was wonderful. Gin and tonic could have been better served in a cocktail glass instead of whiskey glass.

Susan N.

Attentive service on the patio. Seated quickly for a Friday evening (after 8pm). The server seemed very knowledgeable. Had their charcuterie board and cheese on the side. Beef tartar was so so because the meat wasn't as tender as most places. Red and white sangria's were yummy.

Emma Francis

Wonderful food, great service, and convenient location from our hotel

Karla Voth

Quaint place. Neat find. Delicious food! The server was wonderful. Sometimes it's hard to get into - reservation is highly recommended.

Judy Beddoes

We were very happy with the service and the food. Cloth napkins and a vegetarian option for dinner would be great!

steve chudy

First time there, and was a very nice experience. Max (bartender) is very polite, and he gave us some suggestions,on what we sould have. My wife had the pork chop ( about 1+"s thick). I had the onion soup and the pickerel. Both very good. To end the meal, we had dessert. Almond ricotti lemon cake. Very good also.

David Tuttle

Very nice place good food. It seems that my "Shepard's pie" could have used just something to make my rating 5 star. Very good all the same

Matt Freeman

Great location, excellent menu and drinks. Oyster night is a must! Right in the heart of the Exchange District and well situated.

Craig Comberbach

The gnocchi was amazing. Melt in your mouth delicious!

Violaine Tourny

Fabulous food you start eating with the eyes then flavours colors and textures satisfy all senses. On top of it marvelous Nathalie as a waitress a view over art deco building and a few good friends! I wanna go back now!

Debra Granberg

Amazing oysters and bubbly, our server was delightful! Would definitely return.

Aditya Shijo

The service was amazing. The food was good. The wait time was very reasonable, considering they were extremely busy. I only wish they had someone creative in the kitchen who demonstrated a want to make vegan dishes other than pasta, rice bowls or salad.

Badi Bloodworth

I went there with my wife we shared appetizers. We had the mussels, meat and cheeae tray, and a bread salad. I loved the flavours. I fins that a lot of restaurants shy away from strong flavours, the peasant cookery doesn't. It has food choices for guests looking for tamer food but doesn't limit its self.

M E

I love it here. The food is fantastic and the service is always exceptional. Great atmosphere and the prices are on point.

Danial K

Fantastic place to just relax with friends over some good wines or fine scotches with delicious unique dishes. Keep up the good work guys! your atmosphere is always warm and inviting.

Angie 11

Wednesday is Oyster night - $1..:) great food, drinks and service!

harkirat kaur

The food is great, it is in small to big portions depending on what you order. I am not a dessert person but their dessert was amazing. Great atmosphere, pleasant service and a very creative chef!

Nick Ellis

Really cool spot for Canadian farm to table. Food was not super impressive, but good choice for high level casual dinner.

Pierre Manaigre

The service is very attentive. The food is quite delicious. Their signature dish, the Burkeshire pork, looked incredible. I didn't go for that because it was a little too much food for me at the time.

Kirsten Spokes

Excellent service, had the burger and the calamari appetizer. All was very tasty

Tim Mikolash

Went for lunch one day with friends from work, was good! Went back with my wife, got sick - not good! haven't been back since.....

Tiara

Everything about this place is fantastic. Cocktails, food, service. Our server was super helpful and knowledgeable, all the drinks were excellent. Our party of four had the cheddar gnocchi, a seafood pasta and the beef brisket x2. We were all very impressed, no one was disappointed.

Andrew T

I've worked at the City Hall for three, but never been to Peasant Cookery. Excellent food and service, wish I'd started coming here a long time ago. I'll definitely be back!

Dimitris Protsios

One of our favorite places downtown. Very good quality food, and great service. My only suggestion would be to shape up the patio, make it a bit more welcoming, clean and maybe add some flowers to freshen it up.

Roy Sommerfield

Wednesday is Oyster evening. Dollar each; you can order as many as you want. They were fresh and delicious.

Sheilah R

Excellent food and service, highly recommend and will be coming again.

Jeremy Grisim

Sporting a very cozy and very popular lounge area is my favourite part of Peasant. Amazing cocktails, wine and beer, with very skilled staff make this place tic. The dining room is elegant and spacious with a truly inspired menu. I love coming here whenever I get the chance

Adam Dmytriw

The perfect place to celebrate our anniversary! Simple and Delicious dishes, sophisticated yet down to earth atmosphere. Friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent all around experience, thank you.

Carter Chen

I love Buck a Shuck Wednesday's best patio

evelyn Guo

the worst service i have ever experienced. we sat more than 15minutes, no one came to ask for the water or taking order, even some servers walked by. I feel like in a very cheap restaurant.

Jessica Holt

the food here is amazing the staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable about every item on the menu

Dave Carter

Delish... & great chic old French atmosphere.

Bo Roberts-Leung

A very well known place in the peg, peasant cookery topped a lot of best restaurant lists. It really Depends what vibe you are in to, but for the money there are more interesting dining experiences. We found it to be quite dated, the table was sticky like a pub, and our waitress wasn’t very knowledgeable about how dishes were prepared. The Food was good, not wowed, but bar filled up and was consistently lively in evenings. Food 7/10 service 7/10 Atmosphere 6/10 Value 6/10

Colin Lobo

Very good atmosphere and food. Ate a few times here and every time it was amazing. Great menu selection and service. Definitely the place to eat dinner when in Winnipeg.

Pam Loomis

Best oysters ever! I cant wait until the patios open back up so I can visit for oyster wednesdays!

Derek A

Great dining experience. Attentive service. I couldn't decide which app to have so the server offered to do half options of each. Great call! Butternut squash soup and beet salad we're both delicious. Went wth one of the house specialties for my main - bison tourtiere was fantastic. Moist, great flavor excellent pastry. Couldn't go wrong with creme brulee for dessert.

David Coletto

Wonderful atmosphere and delicious food. Highly recommend

Ben Sagle

I was initially worried that, judging by the price of the meal, the surroundings, and apparent quality of the food, that I would be served something that would fit in the palm of my hand. Not so. My slice of Tourtière was a good few inches thick, and loomed over the generous green salad served with it. My colleagues dinner (the Half Chicken) was also a satisfying heap of a dish. He commented that his chicken was the most tender he had ever had. The food here is superb. To match the quality of the food, the restaurant interior is beautiful; retaining all the charm one would hope for when dining in the Exchange District. The jars of preserves lining the windowsills are a nice touch. The service here was top-notch; our waitress was pleasant, engaging, and very helpful. I was impressed with her knowledge of the wine selection, and the nuances of the bottle we ordered. Everyone here seemed genuine and happy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends, and I look forward to my next visit. 1/2 price wine (on selected bottles) every Tuesday!

Gillian C

Food is just simply amazing here. I especially love buck a shuck Wednesday’s. Unfortunately this restaurant is not in the safest part of town and parking is extremely difficult.

Izabela Rachwal

Always well crafted cocktails, great snacks and delicious meals

Barry Swain

First time I've had the pleasurable experience of this great eatery. The food and presentation was awesome, and the service was fantastic. If a bonus star could be awarded, I would hand it out for this great downtown Winnipeg spot. And of note; they were very capable in handling my gluten-free celiac needs.

Maria Spiliotopoulou

Excellent food and very friendly service! Interesting wine list too

Stéphane MARCHIONI -MONTREAL-

Very good service and dinner

Audrey B

Had the Bison meatloaf. It was probably the best meatloaf I've ever eaten. Every time were here, the service is outstanding.

Bee Hunt

The food and service was amazing, will definitely make this a regular stop when I'm in Winnipeg.

Grace B.

This is a great place to go. Servers and staff always make you feel welcome. We ate here and the kitchen was a bit slow, our server offered us a free dessert for the wait which was fantastic. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a cozy place for dinner in the Exchange district.

Mark Frenette

Fantastic food. Appies are very good for sharing. I had a party of 7 for a business dinner, everyone was satisfied and more. Server Ava was top notch!

David Gamble

Descent french restaurant located in the exchange district. Wine list is good but smaller then it used to be. Service and food are good. Nice place for friends or a romantic meal.

Meghan S.

I came here for dinner on Sunday night and I left a little disappointed. I had been here once before over a year ago and I remember it being very good. There is more Spanish, Mexican, Southern and English inspired food than French at this French restaurant... My boyfriend and I decided to share a few appetizers since none of the mains sounded intriguing to us. We ordered the beet salad, oysters, beef tartare, salmon tartare, and fries with a side of mayo. His parents ordered the beet salad and each ordered a main. The beet salad came out quickly and was divided in half which was nice and it was really delicious. But after we finished our salad, we waited over half an hour for our other food to arrive. The salmon tartare came out and it was completely cooked in the acid and opaque. We asked for it to be remade and when it came out to us again, it was not opaque anymore but it was severely under seasoned. The beef tartare was under seasoned aswell. We had to ask the server for salt. The oysters were delicious and fresh and the fries were hot and crisp. The mayo for the fries, however, was very runny. We finished the meal with a cheese course and dessert. Cheeses and accompaniments were perfect and the bread pudding itself was quite good but the Guinness ice cream that is served with it was soupy and had ice crystals.

Yris San Gabriel

Big fan of this place. Usually here for oysters on Wednesdays but any other time is great too. The beet salad and poutine are a must for appetizers and everything on the menu are ethically sourced.

Anna Marie

Very unique place with lots of Manitoba featured dishes. The decor is really well done and service was great!

Robin Catton

We ate Charcuterie, Oysters, Aged Cheddar Gnocchi, Rabbit Mushroom Pasta and Bison Meatloaf. The charcuterie meat and pickle platter was diverse and flavorful. Great selection of homemade meats with wonderful variety of spices. Amazing pickled esparagus. First time trying oysters. Let's just say, I will be back for their buck a shuck night! Homemade gnocchi was soft and the sun-dried tomatoes and spinach sauce was delicious! Perfect lighter fare. Rabbit mushroom pasta. So many different flavors that all worked so well together. Tender and tasty rabbit. Bison meatloaf. Amazing flavors, hearty helping, overall great dish. Total bill $120$ with a beer and 2 Pepsi's. Totally worth it, given that we ordered 2 starters and 3 entrees. Can't wait to go back!!

Oai Truong

Great atmosphere and service, the food was just okay, and the French onion soup was way too salty to eat.

Sean Low

Amazing staff, amazing food. A must try for food lovers!

Nick Burke-Gaffney

Got the vegan mac and cheese and a margherita. Drink hit the spot. The mac and cheese was outstanding. Service was good. Patio atmosphere is great. Price hurt a little but worth it.

Guy Abel

Good atmosphere, great service, very good variety of plates and good portions at a fare price.

Jennifer Sinclair

Difficult choices from the menu because everything sounded wonderful. Settled on two entres to share and a main course. No one at our table of four was dissapointed. Friendly knowledgeable staff and wonderfully balanced flavours were a hit. A definite return visit is in the cards. :)

DrFly

As the Fort Garry Hotel concierges said, very tasty, fairly priced Canadian cuisine. The Extra Special Pork Chop & Sweet Potatoes was extra special for my tastes, will order it again.

Indy Gill

My first time. Great food and Service. They have a coat check. Very efficent and friendly staff.

Matt Capper

Oysters are always fantastic. Also the brisket is much better than Brazen Hall.

Seint Kokokyi

My partner and I came here for my post-exam celebrations and I am glad we came here. The gnocchi was so complex, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth fluffy. The baba was good too but I wish there was more maple run sauce. We both ended up feeling really bloaty when we got home, and this makes me wonder if the food was too rich? Great ambiance and our server was friendly. Their tables were socially distanced which made for a safe and private dinner.

Theora Quinn

Great atmosphere, great service, spectacular food. Best tourtiere in my opinion. Love coming here.

Marcel

Unique decor and a refreshingly unique menu make this place a must try venue. For appetizers, I highly recommend the duck bruchetta. There is a large selection of wine, beer, and cocktails to match any taste. The wait staff are attentive and friendly. This is a great spot for a quiet dinner for two or for a larger group.

Dave Wheeler

Wonderful menu that doesn't rely on traditional dishes, there's always something new to try here it seems! Great dinning in the exchange district.

Colum Grove-White

One of the things that really surprised me about Winnipeg was just how amazing huge food here was. The Peasant Cookery was my first surprise, I ordered the bison meatloaf and it was really exquisite, very interesting taste and texture. Prices were pretty reasonable as well. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting and wanting a good culinary experience.

Justine Bullen

One of my favourite places for well done casual fare. Service is always attentive, food delicious and ambience fantastic... Buck a shuck oyster night (Wednesday) is the best!

François Tardif

Service was very good albeit them being clearly quite busy. Food was delicious and the ambiance was warming.

David Radabaugh

Great fries here! Seriously, great fries! I know there is more food here but still. Fries aside, the gnocchi is done well along with their beef bourguignon was very good. Their menu changes often and they make as much as they can in house like their mayo and Charcuterie. The service can be hit or miss at times.

R

Great attentive service. We really enjoyed Wednesday dollar oyster night. You may order up to 25 at a time. The calamari was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The pickled bean tzatziki was a great sauce to go with it. The chicken livers in brandy and peppercorn cream sauce was tasty and I don't like liver. Everything was well done. Things can be a little pricey but the quality is there.

Geese Howard

5 stars for effort alone. These people are really trying. I’m impressed with effort.

Chieko Hashimoto

Me and my body went to their oyster Wednesday. A BUCK OYSTERRRR!!! We ordered 3 dozens of oyster and they are so fresh and tasty!! We also got beef tartar and duck. Beef was fine and duck was so tasty. I'd definitely come back on Wednesday????????

Latitia Seaman

Attempted to sit on the patio for a nice dinner. Took the server quite some time to even address our table. She took our drink orders and it was past 20 minutes and our drinks still had not come and we had not even been acknowledged in the time or had our food orders taken. Just felt very ignored and I was hungry. We left.

Donald Joyce

Service was wonderful. Food was good, but not overly memorable. It was great to be able to sit on the patio and listen to the music playing at the cube stage across the road.

Anna Kate

Best meal I've had in ages! The staff are very friendly fly and accommodating even when they come across rude demanding people. I went there for a wedding dinner and some of the guests were horrible but for the most part it was a lovely evening

Kirsten Belgioioso

We visited the restaurant on a Saturday night for cocktails and appetizers after the symphony. Our server was very slow and it took a long time to be served. When we ordered food I indicated I had an allergy to dairy products and therefore could not have the mussels after I found out they were cooked in cream. I ordered another item which did not have dairy in it. However, after a long wait the server came out with the cream sauce mussels which I had told her I was allergic to, instead of the non-dairy item. The worst part of the night came when we tried to order a second glass of wine and our server indicated my boyfriend was intoxicated because he was wearing dark glasses (he has an eye condition). I explained that he had a health condition and she didn't apologize. Instead she ran away and hid in the back of the restaurant. Completely caught off guard and not wanting to cause a scene, we left and I left a message for the manager who has never responded. I was insulted and perplexed by the staff at this restaurant and strongly recommend you dine elsewhere. The food does not overshadow the poor service.

Justyn Robert

Peasant used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the city however over the last 3 years I have continually been disappointed. The menu rarely changes and if it does it changes for the worse. The Berkshire pork with Brussels sprouts and walnuts was a classic and now it's gone through a confusing evolution. I've tried almost everything on the menu hoping to reignite the exuberance I once had for this restaurant but now find myself questioning why I keep coming back.

Bryce Kaminsky

Some of the best food I've ever had. Service is great.

Sanjay Patel

The duck and braised pork were amazing... We really enjoyed the salmon tartar as well. Great place for date night or a special evening out. Service was outstanding. I would highly recommend to any foodies.

Tyler Whyte

The food and atmosphere was amazing, I had the Gnocchi. The staff was also very friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back.

Natasha Derksen

Beautiful ambiance and the service was amazing. Natalie served us and was very friendly and professional. The food was great. We will be back!

Luis Ramirez

Delicious food and excellent service and interior design. Very unique food.

Jude Gosselin

We sat on the outside street patio. Nice relax city vibe. The food was excellent. I have many food allergies and the chef was able to accommodate me quite well. Excellent service. Elise was very attentive and helpful.

Sam Atwal

Steak sandwich is the best I have ever had. The bartender makes killer virgin drinks as well! Loved it!

Ben Rogers

Good food, fun atmosphere. Be sure to check out the dessert menu.

Tony Goddard

One of the best meals I've had in a very long time. Great atmosphere and super staff.

Dean Corda

Chevre cheesecake with piggie shortbreads. So good.

Steve Lalonde

Great cocktails, great food, we had a very good service also.

Pamela Ross

Great food and atmosphere. The chef's choice charcuterie board was delicious as was the cream of cauliflower soup. Would recommend.

Mark Adam

The staff were amazing, the drinks were superb, and the food was fantastic. That's the trifecta every restaurant should aim for.

Ralph Backe

Great service. Beet salad excellent. Chairs a little uncomfortable.

Abby M

One of my fav places in the city. Great atmosphere, my fav charcuterie board and nice wine list.

Jeff Klause

Wonderful food concepts. Friendly staff. Upscale.

Sean Taubner

I've enjoyed everything I've had (the gnocchi is especially good), the service has always been top notch, prices are not cheap but very reasonable especially considering what you get for the money.

Myron Pauls

Very friendly, professional staff. Everything we ordered was great. Highly recommended!

Lola Whonnock

Home cooked meals, excellent ingredients, outstanding service in a lovely space.

Lyle Walld

A fantastic dining experience all around. Very good value, phenomenal food and friendly staff.

Ashley Morrissey

Just had a wonderful dinner with a friend and I will for certain be going back. Great food. Great service. Great place for a night out.

Mila Sailer

Excellent food and service.

Yu liu

5 star for the service and food here.

Patrick Harkins

Great cooking, satisfying and authentic. Competent and friendly service. Good wine selection and creative drinks. Relaxed and pleasing bistro atmosphere. Will be going back soon. Loved it. Update: Went back and had another awesome meal and experience. Nathalie went above and beyond caring for us again and our large party of 14. Had an excellent rose that was half price. Perfectly cooked calamari that can be gluten free on request. The plank cooked salmon entree had a lovely subtle combination of flavours. The blood orange sorbet was very tasty and a perfect finish.

Ekaterina Martchenko

Great meal, excellent service. Tried some "forbidden" rice- ironically made only for emperors or some such thing haha

Nick Epp

Amazing food drinks. They were out of a menu item we'd been recommended, but otherwise service was impeccable. Solid price for what you're getting as well.

Kristine

Delicious food. The staff are so great! Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They seem to have a passion for what they do.

Rick Borchert

Great food, very good accommodation for gluten-free although you have to ask.

Peter N

Great food, good service, friendly people, fair value highly recommend.

Michael Zerr

Very good and awesome atmosphere. The wait staff and bar tender was very helpful.

Wayne Sandler

The best restaurant in Winnipeg - food, atmosphere, service all top notch.

Mila H

The service was amazing. The food was good. The wait time was very reasonable, considering they were extremely busy. I only wish they had someone creative in the kitchen who demonstrated a want to make vegan dishes other than pasta, rice bowls or salad.

Andy Rondeau

Absolutely delicious. Fantastic cocktails and really, really good food. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly without being overbearing. The popcorn lamb and carpaccio were highlights.

Jordan Smith

Really love this place. Great vibe and location in the heart of Winnipeg...food was good, prices are decent.

sheldon moran

Took my ex-girlfriend here once. It was lovely, went out of my way to supply a nice evening. She cheated on me shortly after so now my memories of the place are forever tainted. Good food and drinks tho.

BRjr 88

I had the gnocchi. It was amazing. The gnocchi was fluffy cheesy and soft. The tomato's were some of the best tomatoes I ever had 5/5.

Brian Keszler

The food here was fantastic and delicious! Generous portion sizes as well.

David Johnson

Excellent dining spot with best service. Nice french style but there is something for every taste including their charcuterie plate, tortiere and chicken kidneys. Great beer on tap

Jason Komoski

Great place for Canadian fare in and quaint atmosphere. Good wine selection and the lounge is small, but very cozy.

Peterjohn Estabrooks

Very good food, but the environment was a little too noisy for my taste. It was difficult to converse with anyone not sitting right next to me, due to the conversational noise in the restaurant.

Tiffany L

We at til we were full and then some. Real quality food served here. Amazing!!! We are from out of town and will be back!

David Rojas

Delicious food and a very nice place! One of my favorite in Winnipeg!

Craig Omundsen

Spectacular dining experience - gnocchi to perfection, excellent service, and delicious wine. With a late start to our evening, and not having seen everyone in so long, we chatted and ate and drank into the night and close to closing time. Thank you very much to staff for accommodating us.

Pavehead

This place is amazing! The service staff are all polite and well groomed. The place itself is very rustic contemporary and wholesome, with a very intimate feeling. I continue to be blown away by the beverages, and food menu. The poutine is delicious, the steak, even better, and don't get me started on the creme brulee! Highly recommend the peasant sour. Highly recommend this place.

Matthew Kwapinski

Great food, love the beef tartar the most but everything on the menu is great.

Nicole Langdale

Warm and inviting atmosphere! The service was top notch and food was delicious.

Rod N

Very unique menu, nice atmosphere and the service was excellent! Sorry I missed the waiters name but he was very good!

Neal McCain

Good food for dinner, excellent service, great food for lunch, and excellent cocktails!

Bronwyn Moffatt

The charcuterie board was SO gross, like bad bad bad Though it’s such a nice place and the staff are great!!

liz cook

This is a awesome place and the steak sandwich was delicious. Very good and attentive service. Went today for lunch. The restaurant was packed on a Thursday. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Had the gnochhi and it was delish. It could have been a little warmer tho. My husband had pulled pork sandwich. A wee bit too much bbq sauce. Went today and had the steak sandwich and fries and salad. Hubby had his with onion soup. Ate in the bar. Always great food here and service great too. Easy access by bus and car tho parking could be hard. Went for lunch today and ordered from the new menu. The yam fritters were very good and plentiful. Lots of good flavors. Hubby had corned beef sandwich and fries. Really just a ham and cheese with think pieces of meat with fat throughout and fries on the brink of being overcooked close to burnt. Worst meal he said he had there. Usually so good.

Buckman Bukowski

Wednesday Buck a Shuck! I can eat 30 easy!

Steve Ens

One of the best. Delicious salmon. Great spot for cocktails too. Great wait staff.

Liam Morton

Great space, nice staff, terrific location, too bad about the mediocre food. The charcuterie board with cheese, sounded very nice, however its meagre offering of uninteresting salumi selections was most disappointing as well as the almost stale slivers of toast that accompanied. From there the chicken livers were completely smothered by their very bland sauce which resembled a marmalade, that had undistinguishable flavours. My meat balls had basic ingredients and were vaguely interesting, however the potatoes (potatoes brava) were SO not even close to this wonderful potatoe recipe of Spanish origins! The creative menu was unrepresentative of the actual dishes which arrived at our table. Can't imagine ever wanting to return here!!!

Sidney Shapira

Fantastic late Father's Day dinner with the family. Food was excellent. The brisket in BBQ sauce is amazing and way too much to finish. Beet salad with goat cheese mousse was lovely. Puffed wheat garnish was unusual but good. My wife's clam Pasta was just the right size. Not overwhelming. Great dinner. The restaurant was full on a Monday night, with Jazz Festival right across the street. Will return again.

Adam Woodbury

Wednesday will treat you right with buck o shuck. Come for the oysters but order everything because its always amazing.

Reuben Estra

Always a great dining experience. One of our favorite local restaurants

John Andreson

The food is always what you expect and the staff is very attentive.

Mike Maglione

Ate here twice, seafood and burgers are excellent!! Great cocktails too

Vincent Kim

we ate here last night and the Salmon dish was amazing! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a mix of complex flavors in one dish. I will definitely be back.

Jocelyn Baydid

I live in Calgary and wanted to purchase a gift card for my cousin as a gift. I then called the restaurant and Melissa, Executive Chef, answered and I asked her how I could do this and send it to my cousin. She then said to purchase the gift card and she would hand deliver it for me. She even included a card for them. Melissa went above and beyond and I am so very thankful. I cannot wait until this craziness of covid is over so I can travel over there and try her delicious food. Melissa you are an AMAZING human!

Kimberly Rekrut

Time after time this place delivers. I have never had a meal I didn't love here.

Johnny Mitchell

Over priced for the quality of food but beautiful location.

Andrea Motta

Went withmy husband and we love enjoyed our dishes and wine. The server was very pleasant as well. Would definitely come back.

Carlos Betonio

service was great... thx Nick and Scott.. Duck bruschetta were super delish!!!!

Yang Yizh

Christmas dinner take out portions are very small. What a rip off!

Erin Riccardo

Restaurant was beautiful, problem was that my boyfriend and I both felt really sick after having the charcuterie. Their cauliflower soup was incredible though!!!!!

Raven Tardiff

The food here is excellent! The hostess was friendly and accommodating. We did not have to wait long for our appetizer and food to arrive. Everything tasted delicious.

M D

This place is painfully average for the prices they charge. I remember the food being way tastier a few years ago. The poutine was ok, fries were undercooked and gravy was fine but nothing special. Ribs were way too salty and had a weird scent to them. French Onion soup was very bland and lacked a decent amount of cheese and bread on top. The chocolate tart slice for dessert tasted great but the portion was extremely small.

Ryan Bannerman

We often go here for birthday celebrations as a family and it never disappoints. The food and service is fantastic. Would highly recommend as a dinner location downtown.

All_about_ food

The food is really good and the atmosphere is good as well. The servers are really sweet and attentive.

Braedon Ballingall

This was my first experience in Peasant Cookery and also my first experience in what I would call, "fine dining". The restaurant itself is in a great location and the interior is beautiful and has a great atmosphere. The food, oh my goodness the food. The food was absolutely amazing. There's nothing else to say other than that it was the best dining experience I've had to date. The items I found to be priced very well especially for how good the food was. Overall a great dining experience and I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant time and time again.

Derek Penner

Fantastic! The service was spot-on, atmosphere was excellent, and the food was amazing. We'll be back!

Keri A

Amazing cocktails and really good food!! This would he my go to spot in that area!!

Mike Mazier

Really warm and cozy atmosphere. I went here with my wife and mother in law. The food was good my portion was perfect and so was my mother in laws. My wife's was quite small and left her hungry after. The food was prepared with quality in mind. For the price it is what you expect from a place like this. It wasn't a bad experience but not a 5 star experience either.

Ryan Thornton

Very fine food, not bad price

Jsiiai Tiati

I’ve been to the PC a dozen times in the last several years, and it never disappoints. They amalgamate a great drink list, fabulous staff, tasty dishes and dollar oysters every Wednesday. This is a local gem and ought to be seen for yourself. I highly recommended this place.

Saskia F

The food was delicious! The presentation was divine! And our waitress, Carly G, was most delightful! She paid special attention to the birthday girl. Thank you!

Danyelle Kora

True quality. The wine was nice, charcuteri was exquisite, lamb pie was sweet and savoury, bread pudding was light and decadent. I love this place.

Jon Kulesza

Great place. Lots made in house with local product. Plus a nice atmosphere. Good choice all around.

Andres Bahamon J

I went to Peasant Cookery because I had heard from friends that it was very good. Even though the service was good, food was just ok. I expected much more based on reviews and recommendations from friends. Worth a try but not sure I'd come back.

Aurora Star Dust

Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. Would definitely go again and recommend.

Cameron Buchanan

We decided to order ahead for pickup at the restaurant. We were a bit sad we didn’t dine in on the 1st day of lifting covid restrictions. Lots of people were enjoying the experience inside and on the patio. Our tarte flambé was extraordinary! Just like we remember from the Alsace region in France. The beet salad was also very flavourful and fresh. We also had the charcuterie board and it was great too. Lots of cured meats and pate as well as mustards and pickled veg. What a lovely meal to celebrate our 2nd vaccination and the warm summer evening in our backyard.

Michael Burch

Beef tartare was tasty but the saltiness from the pickled relish, smoked egg yolks and salt made the last few bites a bit harsh. The gnocchi is truly like little pockets of cloud but full of flavour. This is my favourite place in the Exchange.

David G

I made a reservation for myself and a client for a late lunch at the Peasant Cookery. On arrival we were told in no uncertain terms by the manager the kitchen was closed. He appeared pleased with himself. Imagine my surprise. After explaining I had a reservation the manager proceeded to tell us that it was all his fault as he wrote the time incorrectly when he took the reservation. I then informed him he was lying because a woman took my reservation. We were then given a song and dance included another obvious lie that ended with the final slap in the face – “Oh, the chef is out picking up a refrigerator.” My client suggested that in all of his years running a restaurant - refrigerators are delivered - a chef would never “pick up” an appliance. The truly sad part is that when the manager realized it was a business lunch his attitude changed from trying to get rid of us to a poor attempt at placating us. Although this happened years ago, I recently found a lengthy note describing the event and felt compelled enough to write the review. You had three chances that day to fix the situation and instead lied each time.

Maya Stewart

The service as great and the food was even better!!! Recommended for small and large groups too.

Liz Curtis

Lovely space and dining experience. Flatbread is a must try!!

Jordan Draedan

I went there with my sister this past week, a couple of things in ascending order of what made the experience not so enjoyable: Our server, whose name I do not recall, was not enjoyable. When we asked about certain drinks (if they could be made) she simply said no, and offered no other suggestions. She also seemed to be impatient and rushed, perhaps too many tables to get to. Our food, a poutine and two plates took quite a while. But were enjoyable. Its a nice enough place but I don`t think I will come back again. Perhaps a friendlier staff and less wait-times would be something to consider.

Susan Rebizant

I was disappointed when I went for dinner with girlfriends before Christmas. The quality of the food has deteriorated in the last few years.

Brad Rich

Superb Tarte Flambee Picked up the Traditional Tarte Flambee with caramelized onions and bacon lardons and was hoping that it would taste similar to the ones I loved in Europe. Chef Melissa did a spectacular job - it was absolutely delicious and perfect for two people. Great for a picnic with an Arugula Salad - Melissa, you truly knocked it out of the park !!! VERY impressed with your version.

winnipeg foody review

Oyster night , thank goodness its about time that more and more places in winnipeg are getting in with oyster night rather than always wing nights

Jacky J

Went here and tried the gnocchi, escargot and soup dishes. The food was good, but the flavor was a bit off (perhaps it was an off day?). Waiting staff were nice.

K Brindsor

First time going - staff was incredible, place was packed... Tried the buffalo meatloaf and it was fantastic. Will be back.

Jim Mansfield

A gorgeous little bar with fabulous cocktails and a very good restaurant. We have enjoyed it every time we've been. It can be difficult to get in without a reservation on a Thursday or Friday night!

Ed Google

Awesome food, great selection of drinks. We should have booked ahead, so ended up sitting at the bar, but our bartender was great, made some excellent recommendations and made sure we enjoyed ourselves. Everything we tried was perfectly seasoned and presented. I really want to go back and try every last item on their menu.

Nicole

Very busy Wednesday, waitress extremely busy. The kitchen was very busy so there was quite a wait. Food was excellent except for the cesar, there is no way that's a cesar, it was tomato water. Waitress was EXTREMELY knowledgable on everything and very friendly!

Alex Mak

Must try Berkshire Pork chops. Cooked sous vide style and is amazingly juicy.

Tiffany Olson Brown

Great atmosphere. Great food!

Tracy Beresford

Incredible! I looked up the menu online so already knew what I wanted (dry ribs and butternut squash soup). I ordered a “brown-buttered” old fashioned which was fabulous. My food arrived in less than 10 mins and it was ridiculously good! What Winnipeg lacks in charm, it makes up for with this place. Super charming and welcoming. The service is incredible and the food was original and so tasty I had to force myself to finish the ribs just because they were so good. They also have a great bourbon and scotch list. Now I’m full and happy. Crazy thing is, it’s not terribly expensive! Amazing..

Derek Peters

I'd like to give a higher rating, but it just wasn't their night. The menu was interesting, but nothing jumped out as a feature dish, the French onion soup was average. However our server was super pleasant, and the atmosphere was great.

Cindy Wiwsoniski

Trying to find parking is s nightmare but once your in...just delicious! I had the she's cheddar ghnocci and it was mouth watering!

Titika Galiatsi

A place with character and great menu. Adam provided us with the best service we have had in Winnipeg. Very professional and knowledgeable.

Jay N

We enjoyed their $1 oysters, but their appys and entrees were, sadly, dull and flavourless. We are fans of the charcuterie board (frankly, you can't really screw that up; it's just cheeses, meats and pickled beans). However, the staff was superb and friendly. Most likely will only order oysters next time.

Jill Johnson

Went here for a wedding. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. The staff were great and very patient with so many guests to serve at one time. The food was exceptional. The creme bruise was the best I've had.

Michael Brady

Fantastic restaurant! Very knowledgeable staff and the head chef is featured in the "Winnipeg Cooks" cookbook. We had the charcuterie platter (which included some things I've never had before, but it was all delicious and cured in-house), the gnocchi (which was not a super heavy meal as expected, but very good), and the tourtière (which blew my mind with how savoury and flavourful a plain old meat pie could be...the taste will haunt me forever). Highly recommend this place!! :)

Jason M Wilson

Best chicken I have ever had at a restaurant. The service was fantastic!

Nathalie Leroux

My all time favourite place to do on a Wednesday night. Enjoy the lounge for a relaxed, buck a shuck, glass of wine, chill vibe.

millbysam

great atmosphere, staff very friendly and accomodating, food is really really good !!!

Bum Gabi

Always a good meal at the Peasant Cookery. I always go for the Steak Sandwhich (topped with mushrooms), its fantastic! Their seafood dishes are also a good choice.

Riley Feilberg

Great service and delicious food with exceptional presentation. A little pricey but with a small menu but definitely a great place to try.

Jeff Ehlers

The rabbit linguine was amazing. Excellent staff and atmosphere. One of the best places to eat in Wpg.

J E

Had a very lovely meal at Peasant Cookery. Our server, Natalie, was delightful and very well-versed in the menu and suggesting wine pairings. They have a lovely wine selection. We strongly suggest the beet salad and the char/cheese boards. The French fries are amazing. The only caveat to an otherwise lovely meal was that we had To wait at least a 1/2 hour for the dessert we ordered. We felt that was a bit too long. However, we didn’t mind as we were not in a rush. Definitely suggest.

Wendy K.

Fantastic meal. Dylan, the manager was able to find a great table for us and had good recommendations for food and drink. Alissa took over in the same vein- couteous, professional and friendly. The bisom meatloaf was really tasty with a delicious mushroom sauce and the honeymoon cocktail was lovely.

Randy Wilkinson

Never disappointed here, love their wednesday oyster special

Leo Bessette

Peasant Cookery is essentially my idea of what eating out in the Exchange District is all about. The atmosphere of the place is spot on with the repurposed buildings the area is famous for. My wife and I love this little gem of a restaurant. The menu is varied but well done. The bison meatloaf is amazing for instance. We've chosen to dine in the bar area each time because of the cozy atmosphere in there. Kudos to Max for making our visits there most enjoyable. Great food and drinks in an enjoyable space makes Peasant Cookery a winner in my opinion.

Bailey Peterson

Always great food. Kelly and Amy gave awesome service! Try the duck. Arugula pesto that came with it was fantastic. Creme brulee for dessert was incredible as well. Great atmosphere and vibe there as well.

Marvin Toy

"I've died and gone to heaven!" That was my reaction to my first bite of the Berkshire pork. It made me truly happy. The beef tartare appetizer and profiteroles for dessert were also satisfying. The service was knowledgeable and friendly. I took all my waitress' recommendations. This is a popular place, so make a reservation!

Ashley Mcvicar

One of the best dining experiences in the city. Love

Scott Irvine

Not as good as it used to be, but a pretty solid place to eat. Great cocktails and wine list. I often eat in the bar room, but the dining room is quite nice too. Menu doesn't change much, but the quality is very consistent. Very good at accommodating big groups.

Bill Hanson

The butternut squash soup is some of the best I've ever had - smooth and silky with a nice spiced finish. Nice touch with the toasted granola garnish.

Hersh Jain

Could add a couple more vegetarian options for the main course. But the gnocchi was excellent!!! Loved it

Jenelle M

We went for buck a shuck on Wednesday. The service was fantastic!

Laura

Update: I went back and it was like a different restaurant. All the food was excellent and service was good. I look forward to going again and confirming this change lasts. Original: This place is inconsistent. I've had both good and bad meals here. Last experience was negative. Party of 5, one person had the mussels and fries. It was not a particularly large serving, and many shells were empty (and the mussels had not fallen out into the bowl). The aioli dipping sauce for the fries was thin and tasted like yogurt. One person had the lamb pie, which was basically a expensive plate of potatoes as there was very little filling. They gave that person a comped dessert, but considering the price of the "pie" that seemed like a weak response. Server disappeared after the meals came. On the plus side, the other three diners enjoyed their meals. The squash soup was lovely, and the brisket and meatloaf were good portions and the people who ordered them really enjoyed them. But at the prices charged, the quality can't be this inconsistent. Update: added a star due to good customer service

Haley Cartwright

Nice atmosphere, fantastic food. Service was slow even though the restaurant was almost empty.

Jordan Charles

Went on an impulse after a hard day at work and found we were a bit under-dressed for the restaurant side. So, we grabbed the last table in the cozy lounge by the fireplace and had the best mojitos in a long time (close 2nd to the ones made at the Fairmont, thought Kerri thought they might be better here). The food kept right up with the drinks and atmosphere. My love and I shared the Butter lettuce salad, Squash curry soup, 1/2 Roast chicken. . . It was a joy to taste well made food at a reasonable price. Finished off the meal with coffee (when was the last time you had a really good cup of java? If it’s been too long come here) and Creme Brûlée. It would have been perfect if our waiter had only been . . . Oh wait, he was perfect too! Found our new hangout! ????

Alex Pettit

Had supper here with some friends and we were all very impressed with the food.. especially the bison meat loaf. Fantastic. Will be back soon. The Skrei cod exceeded my expectations. It was beautifully cooked, firm and moist. The pancetta and the broth worked well for the overall flavour of the dish. Our server, Kelly, was friendly and made us feel welcomed. The food is all very good and priced accordingly. What's even better is the half price nights that they have early on in the week. Why not go there, right! Great flavours, good price. The bar side of the restaurant is where it's at here.

Shamelia Daniels

First time and I wasn't that hungry at the time so I just shared some appetizers but I plan on going back and trying even more stuff. The menu looks great and the food was even better.

Private Account

Steak was a bit dry and too salty, and the beef brisket was rock-hard but otherwise a nice restaurant with a charming atmosphere.

mark klassen

Really few options for vegetarians but if I ate meat I'm sure I'd like it. Ok beer choices.

Adam Peattie

I came to "buck a Shuck" on wednesday night and was not disappointed. Their oysters are fantastic. Their menu had a variety other dinners that are sure to satisfy.

Andy Swanson

This is a class organization that absolutely knows how to take care of a customer. In particular, the Sous Chef Kathryn Stemler was incredibly helpful and went out of her way to fulfill a special request! A no-brainer 5 Star review

Ashley Edson

Delicious food, great atmosphere, wonderful service! Was not our first time and it will not be the last!

Blackdiamond Zazu

The food is not as good as it sounded or presented.

Neila Carmichael

Been coming for years! Peasant has always suit my tastes as someone who enjoys good food and cocktails without all the stuffiness. It has been my choice for birthday celebrations, dates and cocktails with friends many times. I've never had a bad meal here and the staff are always personable, professional and accommodating. Things to keep in mind: It gets busy in the evenings, especially when there are events downtown; avoid disappointment and make a reservation. It is a tad upscale. I would say it's sophisticated but certainly accessible to anyone who likes dining out, nothing is overly 'gourmet'..that is the vibe and the prices on the menu reflect that. Clients include lots of downtown working professionals and people going out for special occasions and downtown events. It's downtown, parking sucks sometimes. If you like oysters, go for buck-a-shuck on Wednesdays.

Ryan Silveira

Its with a heavy heart I write this review. I normally dine in and the food always amazes me. I decided to order through Door Dash 3 items (2 apps and one main. My bill came to about $72 after tax/tip/delivery) The chicken liver was way overcooked. It sas dry minerally and chewy. I had this at the restaurant where it was cooked a nice medium (still a bit pink) This one was grey snd chewy. Caviar was ok. Though serving size was a bit small. Pickerel was again overcooked. Lacked seasoning and was bland. (no salt) Asked for salt on the side too but that request was ignored too. Ended up having to throw it out. The accompanying side was well seasoned and tasty however. All in all I wouldnt reccomend ordering delivery with Peasant Cookery. Not sure if it was just sn off day or standards are slipping.

I love the rustic food here but was blown away tonight with the steak perfectly paired with delicious Zinfandel. Can't wait to return for the foie gras! The service is absolutely top notch. My new favourite spot.

Amazing food and wine selection! I took some family from vancouver out for supper here and they were very impressed. The large portions make it great for groups. The wine flowed and the service is some of the best in the city. Of all the times I've been in winnipeg I always try and make a stop here.

Nice little establishment in the exchange. Was at a wedding at the bar side. Friendly and funny staff. Great selection of drinks

Very disappointing. Arrived with a reservation for 7. were told we had the table for 2 hours. no mention of this when we booked. Server was okay, took everyone's order for drinks except one, had to flag her down to complete the order. Food was average. Cold or pre-cooked appetizers. Entrees were average. White wine was warm. Menu description did not specify cheese, hamburger came with cheese for a person who was lactose intolerant. 6 people had to eat while the 7th (who was celebrating her birthday) waited. Re-fire came when everyone was done. Half-hearted apology provided. No interaction with anyone for an hour while we finished wine and waited for the birthday girl to finish her meal. Sat for 45 minutes with no contact with the server while we waited for our bill. Super disappointing experience.

Best restaurant in Winnipeg, amazing food and service. The oysters are awesome. I recommend the gnocchi.

Always a pleasant dining experience here. Great food, great service and good portions. Their Wednesday oyster special is as good as it gets!

Kristina Sara

Me and my girls would go here a lot for their oyster Wednesdays, never bad experience, good service and good beef tartar. Like getting a side of fries too. Always a good choice for girls night :)

The space is beautiful, the food amazing. We had stuffed mushrooms and cauliflower cheese soup. A perfect lunch on a cold and windy day!

Great food friendly service

I thought the food was awful! The scallops were so small, it made us wonder if they were indeed scallops or some other whatever!! We had to go to the keg steak house, because we didn't enjoy the food!! 2 stars, because the service was great!!

In a downtown full of great places to eat, this is my favourite. The restaurant is lovely, the staff are friendly, and I love their fries, salads, tourtiete, and selection of cheeses.

The service is great, the staff very accommodating, and best of all is the food. Try the bison burger for an incredible taste experience. The restaurant staff provided us with accurate separate cheques even dividing the cost of the wine. This is a must go dining experience. I went for an after work patio dinner on a hot June night with one of my best friends. The patio was nice because we could sit in the shade and enjoy the heat. We both had salads which were very delicious! The server was very nice and friendly. The jazz playing in the park was an added bonus!!! I would recommend this restaurant!

We were looking forwards to dining here as their menu sounded interesting. We shared a bottle of their primo wine, which was a great value at 40$. I had the gnocci, they werent overly saucy and well balanced. The atmosphere left a little to be desired as we were next to a very noisy and squeaky vent which made it feel like we were eating dinner in an industrial plant. Overall the service was friendly and the food solid.

Very good eats solid bar. Pretty much can not go wrong with anything on the menu but in particular the braised dishes are excellent.

Four of us came here for a celebration dinner and we all raved about our meals. * I have been here many times now and I think it gets better with each visit!

Popped in for dinner after a Fringe play. They had room on the patio. Our server was Nathalie and she was outstanding ....pleasant and efficient. Dinner was timed just right with a needed break between salad and main course. The beet salad was big enough to share and they did put it on two separate plates. The beet chunks were warm and flavourful and served atop a goat cheese mousse. The puffed wild rice and toasted seeds added a nice texture. Very enjoyable salad. For main courses we tried the aged cheddar gnocchi and the sweet potato fritters. Both dishes were very tasty. Portions were not large but well presented. We both enjoyed the evening.

Great homemade fair! Thanks fir the great service too! I will come back

Nathan Gosse

Fantastic meal, tons of flavour, such a refreshing change from the standard restaurant fair. Reasonably priced relative to the quality, will return.

Everything up until the actual dining experience was fine. The actual dining part was a big let down. The service was iffy (they spilled a bit of water on the table every time they refilled the glasses) and just not really up to par for the price that is being charged, and the food was flat out not good. The sauce on the beef brisket tasted like something out of a bottle at a supermarket. The potato salad and beans that accompanied it just did not taste good, the beans tasted kinda like the brisket sauce and I've had better potato salad from KFC. Spicy seafood pasta was thoroughly bad - seafood was not very fresh (especially the mussels), the texture of the pasta was subpar, and the whole thing was not spicy at all (nada). Cod was okay, but again, the ingredients were not of good quality. Meatballs were the best of the bunch, but that does not mean much. I guess the flip side is that the prices are reasonable (most mains were under $30), but you might as well pay a few extra bucks to get something actually enjoyable. Overall a disappointing experience.

Excellent food. Excellent food. The bison meatloaf was exceptional.

Thank you for the excellent takeaway pickerel dinner and pork chop dinner this evening. Great food and great service at Peasant Cookery!

Toni Skoglund

Highly recommended. The two of us had apps, main, drinks and dessert for $100; worth every dollar.

Ken Lavoie

Went for the $1 per oysters deal on Wednesdays. Had a good time.

huan nguyen

Might as well be a regular here... Food was great.. timely.. server was attentive and on point

catarina buhler

service was lovely, but the food was incredibly mediocre. If you enjoy flavor and taste this place is unsatisfactory.

Stifling JESTER

Loud atmosphere and food was not quite perfect enough to put 5 stars on it. Great meats and cheeses but the veggies reall needed to be improved. Every dishes potatoes felt like they had been cooked two days ago.

Sarah Moore

Disappointing experience and terrible food. With those prices on their menu you’d expect better.

Douglas Gray

Great food. Nice atmosphere. Pricey, but worth it.
