Came at 5:30 ish on a Sunday night, with a reservation. Place had lots of space when we arrived but was 75% full by 6:00 ish. Nice atmosphere, not too fancy. Lots of local Art for sale on the walls. I'm an art student so I checked it out. Not a critic (yet) but it seemed ok. Mix of realistic and abstracts. Ordered the scallops, a special as it is not on the regular menu. Rest of the party got the steak salad and fish and chips. The scallops had received mixed reviews on the internet, but I found them very nicely done. A tad more well done than I do myself, but I like them pretty pink on the inside, these were not overdone, tender and tasty. Seared crisp on 1 side (crusted). There were 5 fairly large scallops and a smallish serving of pan fried potatoes (with some bacon and onions) and roasted baby carrots. They use heritage carrots in the mix so some of them looked black, but they were all cooked properly. In all a very nice if light meal. Shared tastings with the party revealed the steak was done properly and was tender and tasty, the fish was haddock I think, and was cooked to perfection. The batter was almost tempura style, light and not oily. I'm not much of a fish water, but I'd split a fish & chips like this for lunch without a problem. The chips were not fancy, no coatings etc, just a bit of salt. Went well with the fish. The slaw was not to my taste, a very light oil/vinegar dressing and I like creamy so I can't speak to it's quality. We split a sticky toffee pudding for desert 3 ways, which gave each of us a couple of spoonfuls, just enough really. The steak salad and the fish and chips were a full meal, the scallops were a light meal. The coffee was adequate, but I seem to be a bit of a coffee snob now, and really only like my own anymore. The coffee went well with the desert for sure. All in all, I was pleasantly pleased, the prices were on the high side of reasonable, the food good, the menu interesting. I'll be back to try both the lunch and more of the dinner menu, would recommend it as a place to try to anyone interested.

We ordered the open-faced pickerel sandwich with fries and arugula salad (that was on special), the New York steak salad and a chicken Caesar salad. The portions were perfect for lunches and filled us up nicely. The New York steak salad was underdressed, but after adding more dressing, it was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly to my liking. The pickerel sandwich was enjoyed tremendously too. The chicken Caesar wasn’t very good at all. The lettuce was all core, no green parts of romaine lettuce, underdressed and super bland, even the chicken. That part we would not recommend and avoid in the future. The server was very pleasant and I liked the atmosphere.

We just ordered from here for the first time. Did pick up. Two of us ordered the pickerel with gnocchi and the other one in our group ordered the Market salad with chicken. Flavour was really good but small portions for such a high price.

There was a bland barely there dressing on it, which would have been fine if the purpose was to allow the beet and goat cheese to stand out, however there was very limited amounts of both. It's nice to have some different restaurant options in Charleswood. The small patio is really nice, lots of flowers and has a nice atmosphere. The serving staff are very friendly. The food is good, but I feel slightly over priced, probably to account for that nice patio! I had the ahi tuna rolls. Good, but a sushi restaurant will do something similar for cheaper and tastier.

So was told I should go to the capital grill in Winnipeg. Not to sure what to think. There was some good and not so good. The decorations were very nice and we ate outside as it was a beautiful day. The waiter was very nice and was around regularly to make sure we were comfortable. I ordered the 16 hr beef rib with mashed potato’s and au jus. The meat was very tender but not a rib as no bone in. Mashed potato’s were undercooked and grainy. Au jus was flavourful but was just poured all over the plate including over the cooked tomato’s and green beans. .Every drink we had was made poorly. The Caesar was the wrong type glass which caused it to be to alcoholic. The mojito was not muddled so no mint flavour and definitely no sugar. My old fashioned had improper ice which resulted in a watered down whisky with very little flavour. So not the best bartender ok no big deal so we ordered local beers and that was excellent. The glasses were clean and they had a good selection. If I came back I would not go back there is definitely better places in Winnipeg.

Wonderful ambience and delicious food at this lovely restaurant tucked away in beautiful Charleswood. Our server Adam was great and very efficient. We started with a seafood chowder that was the best I ever had. Then had a hard time choosing between a mouth watering variety of main courses. Right from the start the service was amazing. They had called me back to tell me a table was available. Our server Adam was great and informed us of their specials where he convinced us try the chipotle bacon corn soup, which was delicious. Ended our dinner with the creme brûlée. To die for!!! This was our second visit. The salmon was outstanding. I had it both times. But the pulled pork sandwich was very disappointing. The texture was just mushy. Not pleasant at all. The coleslaw was cabbage with vinegar, their description. No offer to bring something else. Their solution was to charge us 50% for a meal not eaten. We won't return.

Wow. After a long and hot day of 'touristing' around town, we came to Capital Grill and Bar based on the reviews: not disappointed! Service was great, and the resteraunt itself was beautiful. Loved the local art that decorated the walls. The food definitely matched the quality of the decor too! I had the pork schnitzel based on the server's recommendation and could not have been more pleased. Blew me away. My fiance had some manner of open-faced burger (can't recall the name), and was happy with that as well. I think i will stop here when I head back to Winnipeg!

The food and the service was impeccable. I had the Capital burger, which was an incredibly juicy seasoned ground chuck burger, pancetta, and truffled cheese. We also had a steak salad, and a pan seared halibut with hand picked chantrelle mushrooms. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and knew the in depth details of everything on the menu we asked about. Price is very fair for this calibre of food and service. Would definitely recommend, and will return.

Consistent, well prepared food. Their popcorn shrimp and ahi tuna roll are two appetizer favourites for us. They have an especially adept hand in preparing fish and seafood - and while limited on the menu (ahi tuna nicoise salad, fish & chips, pickeral and organic salmon - each is well prepared and delicious. Try to catch their Spring- run Halibut specials for something extraordinary. That being said, we've also had their meat (pork schnitzel, NY steak and frites, braised short ribs, crisp skinned roast chicken) dishes and all are solid. Decent wine list, and great cocktails - Moscow Mule is a summertime favourite made with a nice spicy ginger beer. Atmosphere is casual with a nice rotation of different artists' artwork adorning the walls. Service is friendly, attentive and prompt. This really is a gem of a neighbourhood restaurant, and welcome addition to the Winnipeg dining scene - highly recommended!

Went in to have supper, ended up having the best meal in the westside of the city. The staff is so friendly, the food was fantastic. Was so full, then we were asked if we wanted dessert I asked what do you have. The server listed something and then something else and then there it was Sticky Toffee Pudding, and it was great.

Capital is great. There's a diverse menu with food that will appeal to more- and less-adventurous eaters alike. The service is always fantastic. It's not a huge restaurant, so Friday and Saturday dinners might need reservations. Of particular interest is the Tuna Nicoise, very delicious. The desserts are generous, easily shared between two. The location is quite a distance from the usual neighbourhoods that hip eateries are found. It's location in a small strip mall sandwiched between a Subway and a Starbucks might make it easy to overlook this hidden gem.

A definite favourite of my girlfriend and I. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere, the staff are extremely polite and knowledgeable, and the food is top notch. Everything I have tried on the menu I have enjoyed. Their staple Capital Burger is packed with flavour and comes with perfectly seasoned fries. Would recommend as a date night spot, out with family or friends, or a small business dinner.

The restaurant was not overly busy but it was quite loud and I would imagine it would be even louder if all tables were full. Went here for Chickenfest as competition item sounded great online. Chicken burger was okay - though chicken was far too small for size of bun. suggest either increase pricing and do bigger piece of chicken or reduce size of bun. Waited a while for drinks. Staff were friendly.

We have been to the location on Roblin a few times mostly because of the patio. They have far too many dishes that are deep fried and not as many grilled. Almost no vegetarian options. We have had the same server which is very good. The owner/manager on the other hand is not very welcoming. Over all the food is your typical bar menu, not what you would expect from an acclaimed Vancouver/Toronto chef. The inside of the restaurant looks more like a dinner with poor lighting. Lunch is probably your best bet.

I've eaten here before and they always have a great selection on the menu with something for everyone. The tuna nicole is a favourite, as is the short ribs. And there's always something in the specials selection to tempt you away from the menu. And we never leave without having the sticky toffee pudding. It's amazing. The outside of the fish batter was crispy, the fish was hit, but whatever was in between was greasy and left a bad taste in my mouth. Fries were great in texture, but the seasoning was ... Had an excellent meal of popcorn shrimp tempura battered what an awesome way to eat it. Then white wine mussels which were perfectly cooked. And my main was the Capital Grill burger with a Ceasar salad. Gotta say haven't had such a tasty burger with a great long lasting flavor forever. Great service and warm atmosphere. I'd recommend it to anyone. Can't wait for my mom to come from out of town so I can let her experience this place.

Located away from the popular dining areas in downtown, the Exchange District, Osborne St. Village etc., Capital Grill is close to Assiniboine Park and is part of a complex which also houses a Starbucks cafe. Offering a variety of unique and upscale dishes, Capital Grill delivers fabulous food in a welcoming, neighborly way. The crab cakes served on a bed of fresh greens with a side of tart Grannysmith apple slaw, paired with a glass of sangria makes for a light but satisfying summer meal, especially well presented on the lovely outdoor patio out back. Having eaten at the Capital half a dozen times now, I can honestly say that it is a perfect place for any event from a quiet business lunch meeting to an evening graduation party and everything in between! You won't be disappointed if you choose to dine at Capital Grill and Bar!
