Its a cute spot to grab seafood! My partner and I got the 1 piece fish and chips and the scollops. You get a bunch of fries and the fish is huge! The scollops were great! Theres a dog friendly deck to eat on. On the deck, you get a beautiful view of the water. Its in the heart of downtown! We will return for sure! Its tight quarters in the entry way which is a downside. Covid measures are followed (the usual mask etc..)

The real appeal of this place is its view and the ease of service Order at the counter, you get a buzzer and pick it up at a service window. There's a deck on top and a balcony one level down looking at the docks. Nice food: a lobster bun is a lobster roll , lobster meat mixed with mayo on a bun not a roll. Everything comes with fries. The steamed lobster is good. They've got a few beers on tap, wines come from cans.

Being in the heart of fresh seafood I was quite disappointed with the quality of food that I was served today. Very over cooked bland flour coated clams and very greasy fish and chips .... the key to serving deep fried seafood is fresh fryer oil and with it being a busy Saturday on the waterfront you would think that the fryers would be fresh and all food not tasting like old grease.

Fish and chips weren't very good. Fish is very heavily battered and the inner layer of batter is soggy. The fish was also quite thin in places - not much meat to it. It looks big from the outside but is actually a lot of batter with little fish. The poutine here was good though.

Absolutely hands down the best lobster roll that I have ever eaten. My husband had the fish and chips and loved them. I tasted his tartar sauce and I'm not sure what they add to it but mouth watering sauce. Don't miss out if you are in Lunenburg.

This one is not for me. I took my mother here to try a new place, but it just didn't work out. The food is fairly atrociously greasy, badly cooked, and over-priced. It's not really a restaurant in the traditional sense, so shack probably fits. You have to line up at a counter to order and wait for the food. I'm not a big fan of greasy, deep-fried food anyhow, and was hoping for better seafood dishes. We left most everything on our plate when we left.

Good spot for fish and chips. Next time I would skip the combo with fries and coleslaw. The fires are small and over cooked and a little bitter ( u may like that), fish a little greasy and the coleslaw is literally one spoon. Nice staff, good view and a nice spot overall.

This place was a lot of fun. It's a bustling fish cafe with a beautiful view of Mahone Bay and the goings on below along the waterfront. We enjoyed succulent steamers and crispy fried local scallops and fries washed down with beer. They made really good spicy tartare sauce. It was a highly recommended lunch!

I have been here twice now and you cannot beat the view or raw shellfish offerings ( the place is very small ). However I found the fish and chips to be quite greasy and they put , what may be otherwise , delicious homemade fries on the bottom which makes them soggy and the grease from the fish leaks on them

The patio is great and the food comes out quick. I had a lobster roll that was one of the best lobster rolls I've had in Nova Scotia. I knocked off a star because my partner's fish had a strange aftertaste. I don't know if it was the batter or fish itself but the place was far too busy to enquire.

Never got a chance to eat here but we had decided on $60 worth of food between my wife and I for our first visit and when it came to pay at the order counter we were told they don't take CC. Don't be so cheap. Charge a fee if you are that hard up. We will keep going to the Salt Shaker.

Lobster bun is pretty good! We had rain pouring down in the middle of a meal, so we transferred to a lower deck with umbrellas. We end up having a romantic meal in the rain. Lovely view on the deck of the waterfront.

Four stars because this place is pricey. I do respect that seafood is not cheap, but we spent over $50 CAD for lunch. The lobster bun was well done and our scallops were great. The Spicy Tartare is amazing.

This may have been the best fish & chips we had in Nova Scotia on our trip around the province. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are large. Two of us shared the two piece fish with fries for lunch (which came with homemade coleslaw and tartar sauce), which for $15.00 was more than enough to satisfy. Their fish was well cooked, their fries were very fresh, and their tartar sauce may be the best I've ever tasted. We were told the fish is fresh and delivered from the harbour daily, and you can really taste the difference!

Yes it says fish shack but have you tried their Cheeseburger? It is possibly the best burger I have had in a long time! Get the works, it isn’t too big and you’ll be able to bite into it without it spilling all over the place. Everyone around us ate their seafood and fries so those must be great too, however we were there for the burger.

The Fish Shack is a charming spot to grab a bite in historic Lunenburg. I went with a 1 piece fish and chips, the food did NOT disappoint. The fish batter was light and airy, the fries were done to perfection. The service was fantastic, you place your order and pay before you are seated, which I really enjoy because you can eat and run (if you are a fast eater, like me) or you can dilly dally and enjoy the view -your server is also spared from checking in 30 times to see if theres anything else they can get you once you're done eating. Indoor and outdoor seating available, which makes it an ideal stop in rain or shine! I am looking forward to trying the otber menu items in the future.

Fish pieces were generous but tasteless. We doused it in vinegar and salt to make it taste like something. They could stand to lemon zest, herb and salt their batter. Fries were plentiful. Ordered a scallops and fish which was a mistake, compared to the fish and chips. There were MAYBE 7-8 scallops. They could also stand to have different sizes of slaw to order a la carte. The slaw comes as basically a taste of slaw in a tiny condiment container. Would have preferred at least a cup of slaw. Outside atmosphere was nice to eat at and watch the bay.

Cute little place. You order up top and pay and then they have seating below. There are dividers between the booths. We got a table next to the windows overlooking the harbour. I think it would be really nice with the windows open during nicer weather! The fries were a bit soft for our liking and the breading fell off my cod but even still it was all yummy. My husband really enjoyed the fish burger which was half a piece of fried cod on a bun. Great selection of craft/local ciders, beers, and seltzers.

I came here because the lobster roll was highly regarded but to I found it pretty underwhelming. The portion size was far below what I'd expect for $20+tax while the fries were overcooked and unseasoned. I don't plan to return and wouldn't recommend given the other options on the south shore.

Portions of fish are huge, although a little pricey. Sit on the lower patio (you can’t see it from the entrance), if it is crowded, or you want shade or shelter. Good food though!

Been eating too many lobster rolls time to find the best fish and chips. We did this at the Fish Shack in Lunenburg. I once tried to perfect making them myself because no one got it right. This was a pleasant surprise and I have to say one of the best I ever had. Went for the 2 piece with fries and the pieces were huge. I did finish it all but didn't eat for another day, how could I not finish this piece of art. I highly recommend the Fish Shack fantastic food.

Love the scallops and fries. However, there is no other option other than “beer battered” Some people don’t want their food cooked in alcohol or to have the flavour of an alcoholic beverage. Why is that so hard to understand? Offer a non battered fish.

Excellent fish and chips! Great service. The only complaint I have is the amount of plastic used, all cutlery and cups were plastic for dining in, what's up with that!? I'm sure they recycle but still, seemed so wrong.

The view and the location can't be beat. But the fish has so much batter and oil in it I had a heart attack. The fries were so broken and oily, they were matted together and mashed into an unholy grossness. This place used to be awesome. Really sad to see.

highly recommend their steamed digby clams. i ordered a pound and wished i had ordered two instead. perfectly cooked, tender clams. the broth had the right amount of saltiness, and the clams themselves were incredibly sweet.

We were in Lunenburg for two days and ended up eating at the South Shore Fish Shack both days because we were so impressed with the food. The fish sandwich was one of our favourite meals of our entire trip out east. We also tried the fresh lobster, which was so flavourful we didn't even need to dip it in butter. Their sides (particularly the potato salad and the fries) were also delicious.

Closed during the off season, but when open it is the best place for fish and chips. My favourite is the scallops and chips with a generous portion of scallops. I don’t get the spicy tartar sauce as it takes away from the tast, too much. They have adapted very well to the current Covid restrictions as you give your order and then find a table, taking your beeper that tells you when your order is ready. Free refills when you order a drink. Just ask a passing waiter for a refill and they will bring it to you, allowing you to avoid entering the building again. One direction in and one direction it makes a good flow. No bother to clean your table up a bit, as I’m prone to do. They would rather you leave it all and they will clean it properly before they disinfect the area. Looking forward to another season of fresh fish this year!

First time in this iconic town. As my cousin lives here, it is likely we'll be back, but we won't return to this restaurant. The batter on our fish and chips was greasy. My sister got food poisoning from the clams and is throwing up as we speak and has diarrhea. Not a nice start to our holiday.

Paid $27.00 for lobster, and was given a flimsy plastic fork to eat it with. Partner had poutine and enjoyed it. $3 each for a pop. Set-up is very inconvenient, especially if unable to use the patios. Order food at a rushed take-out style counter, go downstairs with a buzzer to claim a table, go back upstairs to collect food when paged, try to manage food, purse and drink back downstairs. Seems like a tourist trap. Would go elsewhere if back in town.

Very basic counter service and I thought a bit spendy for that. Still getting used to the prices at East shore restaurants. Wasn't expecting much, but the scallops were large and perfectly prepared. We sat at some tables in the direct sun, but realized after that there were a bunch of tables on the lower level with umbrellas.
