Excellent food, excellent service, quaint open atmosphere. My husband and I went here for our first anniversary. They gave us bread to start - the bread was super fresh and came with a dish full of oil and balsamic. We found the dish too deep to get at the balsamic (sitting at bottom), so we poured it out onto one of the side plates which was perfect. We shared the bacon wrapped scallops with a chipotle aioli as an app, I had the cajun seafood pasta, my husband had the steak dinner, and we shared the strawberry shortcake for dessert. Everything was extreamly delish! I'll be craving that cajun seafood pasta until I can visit again next year. It was so good I couldn't stop eatting it even though I was full! We pretty much rolled ourselves out of there! Lol Well done black spoon! Easily the best food in and around the Sydney area. See you next year!

Wow. I wanted seafood because I was in Nova Scotia. I stopped listening at "scallops, lemon pepper, sun dried tomatoes and.." and just said "yes, please". Wavered slightly over a menu item with bacon wrapped scallops but wasn't disappointed. Seems one had linguine and mine had peña? Whatever. Had bottled tea..they have wines and specialty cocktails, but I don't drink. ..with good, buttered, crunchy toast. And the Peppered Strawberries for dessert and split the spinach and artichoke dip with my pilot car driver, Shane, who knew the place, for an appetizer. A bit cozy and crowded in a good way. We were a little odd..two truck drivers in a bistro that seems to cater more to couples, ..but it isn't a formal place..laid back. I like to find little gems where they really care about what they serve. Great food, friendly staff and relatively, given the service and quality of the food, inexpensive.

The restaurant is small...however i call that cosey....the staff is extremely chatty...however not to the point that it annoying...so I would say they were just friendly enough. The food was truly amazing Cooked to perfection. I could not finish the amout of food I was given...so the portion was large. This is by far one of the best restaurants on the island and if you javent tried it....get out and do so you qill ne jappy you did

WOW!! We had the best meal of our lives here. We ordered the tortellini and ribs and were not disappointed with either of the dishes. The ribs easily beat even The Keg. Reasonably priced and excellent, kind service. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is in town, or anyone who's waiting to board the ferry to Newfoundland.

Great place we had lunch at. Server Glenn was awesome. We had combo of soup and sandwich, large choice of sandwiches which are mostly grilled Panini. There is also a trio of soup, sandwich and salad. There were four of us and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. We didn't make a reservation for lunch but we were early. Worth the drive into North Sydney. Would definitely go back.

I really liked this place and while I am not a fan of different places I do enjoy it and enjoy the different types of food they offer. The problem is its not a family environment and it is small for the amount of people who are here. Other than that it's a great place to eat for a husband and a wife.

This is always on our hit list whenever we are visiting, hands down the best food on the island and excellent service every time. It is smaller so you might have to wait for a table but it is worth it. Higher end cuisine compared to most other restaurants on the island, but reasonable prices for what you get, and generous portion sizes.

Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of my fantastic food, but I had some of the best chowder I ate during my trip around Nova Scotia. The grilled cheese on the side was super tasty. The service was really nice and and ambiance very chill. Definitely check this place out if you’re in the area or waiting on the ferry.

Was told this establishment was a great little spot. Decided to have dinner with some friends who had driven from Ontario and were passing through town. Told them I had a party of seven. When seating was ready they advised that we had two tables but they were side-by-side. Upon being seated we soon discovered that side-by-side actually meant back-to-back. We asked if we could turn the tables 90 degrees so we could interact during dinner, but no....the extras 5 inches encroaching the aisle was deemed a safety hazard. We ended up sitting at two separate tables and after advising the waitress that we were together, our meals were still served at different times....our table was finished but the rest of our party had yet to receive their entrées. Apparently these folks do not grasp the link between eating and socializing with friends. The air conditioner was also blasting at our table and we politely asked if this could be turned down or re-directed away from our table. After receiving assurance it would be done, no attempt was made. The food here was actually very delicious, and was definitely the best part of the experience. However, the food alone will not be enough to bring us back.

Easily in my top 5 restaurants of all-time!!! (and we like to eat out). You will not be disappointed if you go here! They have a variety of options for all types of palettes. Portions are large, service is second to none, and timing of our three course meal was impeccable. Desserts were mouth watering and generous in size. I found that the price was extremely reasonable for the quality and service we received! Have never written a restaurant review before, but felt obligated to share our perfect experience here. Will most definitely visit again!

This place is amazing. My boyfriend and I are on a road trip from Vancouver to NL and we stopped of here during our wait for the ferry to Port-aux-Basques. This is the best food that we ate during the entire 23 days of our trip so far. The service was amazing, and they were really great about the wait for the table, during which we explored a bit. Kudos to the kitchen and front of house staff.

I went today with my friend and we ordered the bbq pulled pork with a ceaser salad and cocunut carrot curry soup from the lunch menu. Best I've had in my life.. the service was fantastic. Only a 5 minute wait for the food, if that. We did wait to get seated but it was so busy so that's understandable. The servers there are amazing at there job and friendly. We ordered the red velvet cake and the chocolate cheese cake for dessert and it was so creamy and delicious perfect after our meals. By the end we couldn't even breathe!! Wonderful visit can't wait to go back.

My favourite Resto in the Sydney/ North Sydney area. The food is consistent and delicious, reasonably priced, nice staff. An absolute gem in North Sydney. I didn't expect to find something so spectacular when I was on the island for Celtic Colours, but I was glad I did. Service was great both times my wife and I were there (lunch and dinner), with every dish being top quality. In particular their cheesecake was the best I've ever had. ANYWHERE. Unfortunately it was a special, so not available all the time. I'm happy to report that their other desserts were also spectacular. I'm both glad and not that I live 4 hours away, since that means I won't spend too much money from going there all the time! Whenever we are in North Sydney we will make it a point to go back there.

We never have a bad time here! Although it has more of an adult atmosphere they do have a kids' menu and we have taken our young children and they were warmly welcomed. The food is never a disappointment! Can sometimes be a long wait to get a seat, I'd recommend reservations of it is a special night. The wait is worth it though!

Decent food and definitely good considering the other options in town (there aren't many), but over rated. We were told it was one of the best on the whole island but we didn't find it outstanding, just good. It's a great option if you don't want to venture into Sydney, but it was definitely not amazing. This Bistro is my top 5 restaurant in Cape Breton. They have consistently good food, good service and good prices. I had curry chicken pasta and the tomato soup, excellent. For tht curry dish, the chef may want to cook the curry spices in oil more because the curry tasted a little raw,(most people would not detect)as i eat a lot of curry dishes. My friend had mussels and pan fried haddock. He said he traveled all over Noth America eating at restaurants and the food was very good. When i come back I'm getting the fish! I'm a foodie!

This place is very popular you may have to wait 45 minutes plus for a table... I recommend calling head they might be able to put you on a called sheet. They don't take reservations. Great food, large portions made with fresh ingredients. Very helpful smiling staff. I ate the spicy Cajun seafood... if I had to give some cons to this pleasant meal... I felt I was served a little to much pasta and not enough seafood. Everything was cook to perfection... I just wanted to see a bit more lobster on the plate. The meal comes with a little bit of everything mussels, scallops, shrimp and lobster. Still a great meal for 20$ can. Maybe an option on the menu to add seafood, I would happily paid 5$ to have added extra lobster. This place is totally worth a visit to...

My very favorite dish is the peppercorn steak with the garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables!! I search restaurants for fabulous steaks and Mike's steaks rival the steak experience I had in Chicago!! Dropped in for lunch. Staff were great. We both just found the lunch menu small, restrictive, and boring. I has the soup of the day which was a watery and Very salty pea soup, followed by a beef panini which I have to say was rather tasteless. My partner had the soup and could not get past the first spoonful because of the extreme saltiness. He found his chicken panini also one note. Essentially your choices were soup, salad, paninis.

I ordered the gluten free pulled beef sandwich with salad. The gluten free bread was tender and amazing. I was so impressed with the meal. Hubby had the chowder and omg so flavorable and lobster claw and scalopps. We will be back.

Amazing food and great service. VERY close to the North Sydney ferry terminal. The staff are GREAT with small children, even though their menu may seem a bit over the top for kids! They were so accommodating to make something I knew my son would like. HIGHLY recommend their crispy coconut chicken. Such a huge flavour explosion in your mouth! Amazing sauce and amazing coating on the chicken :)

15 tables 45 seats hole in the wall. Completely personal and professional service. Top notch selections done exquisitely. Recommend maple syrup spring rolls followed by Cajun Seafood pasta. Wanda had artichoke stuffed mushrooms followed by Moroccan Haddock. Mind the lineup. And they will sell out early of some dishes. Completely worth the wait.

Don't let the looks on the outside stop you. This was a wonderful little restaurant. The daily special of scallops/linguine and their cajun seafood pasta were fabulous. Great staff and great service. Folks looking for a dining spot prior to hopping the ferry to Newfoundland should check it out.

Very unassuming place. Plain looking decor. Don't let that fool you. Some of the most amazing food on the island. Prices are good. Service is great. The soup was delicious, as was their selection of paninis and salads. Highly recommended!

Wonderful little spot for lunch and dinner. Was disappointed when it wasn't open yesterday but with 10 inches of rain (leftover from the hurricane) and power out downtown, they had to shutdown. Glad they were back open today. When in, town I aways eat here.

Easily the best restaurant in North Sydney. The lobster pound is good too but the prices are much higher. The lunch is especially great, you can get half a sandwich, a bowl of soup and a salad for $10. I've never had anything there that wasn't amazing and can't recommend them enough. If you're looking to get lunch there, try to go either at 11am or 1:30pm, otherwise the wait time might be a bit excessive, at least until they finish their expansion as seating is limited.

Having been on a road trip to PEI and NS for the last 10 days and this restaurant ranks right on the top. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Cape Breton to drive down to North Sydney and eat here. Must have, Just Fab!!
