Great German food - will come back :)
Great food. Although my sister and I had to wait a while to get what we ordered, they were very busy around the time! Food was f.a.n.t.a.s.t.i.c and try their latte, it doesn't belong to this world
Beautiful and comforting decor! Amazing and attentive service! Top notch food- makes you feel like you are in Germany! Great portions and the food is very flavorful! A 'must do' place! You won't be disappointed!
Pure genius, had the Paul’s special hot dog. Don’t let the hot dog part fool you! This was so tasty the homemade sausage was delicious and, the curry combination sauerkraut was so very good ???? Way to go working different flavours ????
I was lost and they got me back on the highway
Drop by for some desert awsome homemade icecream, try the blueberry one, wash it down with a German coffee.. We will go back for dinner... Byob tough there is a corkage fee... Worth a try if your in Liverpool, NS
Very nice meal
Very good German choices. Definitely a must. Will be excellent once they obtain the liquor license.
Super clean, great service. Menu offers variety
Good food. ❤
My favorite restaurant in town. Love the cranberry cream cake.
Absolutely the best food in the south shore
Food was different, 1st time there.
Food was excellent. Atmosphere was excellent. Staff friend. Service was excellent. Highly recommend.
excellent food
Nice place, nice people. Ordered the Eggs Benedict and it was absolutely delicious. The portions are generous. When in Liverpool, it's a must.
We enjoyed with our new neighbors, yet another WOW this is so delicious dinner tonight. Hans gave our neighbor some of his mist delicious pepper sauce to take home. Out of 4 different schnitzel each one was served up tender and tasty. The German potatoes were too tasty to leave any behind. The leftovers came home to be enjoyed with breakfast. Hans the chef came out and shared light hearted chatter with us to make us feel like we were special. but Our server Britanny was very professional and intentive to our needs We were so impressed with the main course, we took our delectable desserts home. We were too full to eat them right away.
Excellent food and service
Awesome
Great authentic food. Service fast and friendly. Highly recommended.
Fantastic!! Small menu and it doesn't matter what you get-all mouth watering including homemade ice cream!! Mmmm
Good food
Love you guys
I had 'Paul's Breakfast' it was a massive meal and absolutely delicious to the very end; although I could t finish it. Served in a heated skillet to retain the heat throughout made it easier to not rush. The toasted bread was fresh and both the bacon and wurst were cooked perfectly. Scrambled eggs with fine herbs were light and fluffy while the panfried potatoes were crispy with onion sauteed on the side. His baked beans were German style and although not typical; tender and very tasty! My tea was perfect! Our server was warm and super friendly with that impression that we were new old friends.
absolutely excellent. abundance of too much good food
Cannot wait to go back!
Excellent, as always.
Very disappointed that we couldn't have beer of any kind to complement our meal. And at a German restaurant to boot! Unforgivable!
The food is authentic and tastes delicious! 2nd time ever being here and 2nd day in row. I'll definitely be coming back everytime I'm here in Liverpool.
The waiter and food was great.

We live in the area and consider it a privilege to take meals at Paul's at any time of day. We always introduce guests and consider it best local choice. Increase you enjoyment and byob.
Really enjoyed the food at Paul's Restaurant. I had the "Paul's Schnitzel" and it was by far the best schnitzel I've ever had. It came with a salad to start and it was also incredibly good. When I am in Liverpool again I am definitely going back.
I have been here many times over the past few years, and I have never been disappointed. I have tried various items on the menu, and the quality is consistent. The prices are fairly high, but the portions are huge - definitely big enough to share. The desserts are different each day, and they are all delicious!
One of my favorite places to eat while in NS. Great and authentic German food. The staff are also very friendly.
Salad was delicious and came in something like a beer mug sobit was a cute change from the ordinary. I tried the Schnitzel which was breaded perfectly. First time I've ever been at a restaurant where the cook came out to greet each patron. What a wonderful touch! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to family or friends.
I had the most amazing breakfast and experience this morning! The owners (who serve and cook) were so nice! The meal was way more than I could eat! Homemade baked beans were the best I’ve ever had! I had the Paul’s Breakfast. Bacon, sausage, homemade bread, taters to die for, pineapple jam scrambled eggs and a big pot of tea with lots of refills!! I would definitely go back again and again! It took awhile but it was home cooked and I wasn’t in a hurry!
The food that was available was delicious. However, it was missing the famous German pasta that I was longing for.
was ok, coffee was really good how ever the sausage was more like a glorified hotdog...
Great food and delicious cakes, fair good portions and everything at decent prices. A destination in Liverpool, Nova Scotia for us
Great food and atmosphere.
Very good food
The chef has high culinary standards, a rarity in the gastronomic wasteland that is Liverpool, Nova Scotia. But attribute that to her German roots. The schnitzels are excellent, desserts scrumptious without being overly sweet, in the European fashion.
Service
Fantastic food always a pleasure eating there.
So good. The bene on german-style potato cakes (aka latkes) was easily the best I've ever tasted. It's clear that a lot of love and pride goes into each dish.
Great place for dinner. The portions are large bring your appetite. The staff are really friendly and helpful.
Food is awesome and portions are large.
Service
We travelled around Canada for 4 weeks. After a lot of tasteless meals we were so happy we discovered this restaurant. We ordered the schnitzel with mushrooms and salad. What a flavours! So much taste. It was really our best meal in 28 days. If you are in the neighberhood go to Paul’s. You Will really enjoy!
Ordered Paul’s breakfast. Everything was clearly home made and made to order. The bread on the menu says homemade however I’m not sure, it resembled the same bread I buy from the grocery store. The baked beans were to die for, the hash browns were out of this world as were the scrambled eggs. The bacon had good flavour but a little too much on the crispy side for me. The onions were a nice addition to the dish but they were a bit raw to compliment the dish - I would have liked to see them grilled a bit longer. The food was awesome, and the service was extremely friendly. However, why this did not receive 5 stars is because we sat down for breakfast and 1 hour and 30 minutes later we were done. We waited 10 minutes to order, 50 minutes for two plates of the exact same order to come on the table. 15 minutes to eat and another 15 minutes to pay and leave. Other customers were mumbling about the wait time to order as well. Great restaurant at the end of the day if you’re not in a rush.
Bring an appetite!! Great food, great price, huge portions and very friendly people.
Great quality food.
Awsome as always
Friendly owner and staff. Food was delicious large quantity.
Amazing food, big portions, friendly service. Cozy seating. Try the German Coffee "amazing".
Wonderful, delicious food. Great friendly service and large portions. I felt like I was back in Germany. Great hospitality.
Nice and cozy. Friendly staff. Great schnitzel
This is a must place to eat at. We usually only go for dessert but this time we had a snack as well. It was delicious. We had a flat bread type pizza and it was yummy. The variety of desserts is fabulous. All homemade. They are decadently fatting but at the time you don't care. The place is run by a German hisband and wife team. A mist stop by place anytime of the day.
(Translated) There were two of us and we each had a pork dish. The portions are very very generous and it is really very good. The pork Café de Paris is delicious. The value for money is excellent. One of the best restaurants since we arrived in Nova Scotia. Friendly service and you can bring your own wine.
What a fantastic breakfast! We arrived a little after 11AM to the restaurant, and we were welcomed by a warm and cozy from dining room with low ambient lighting. The waitress was very friendly and very courteous. First of all we were happy that we could order schnitzel that early in the day. Then, when the food arrived, we were blown away! Everything was cooked to perfection, and the all of our meals were fantastic. Half way through the meal, the owner Paul came to visit to ensure that the food was to our liking. He was very friendly and happy to answer questions about where he was raised in Germany. We learned a lot! This place is with the flight from Ontario! We will be back again in a few days.
Food was awesome! Waitress was friendly and helpful! Prices were good!
We’ve been to this place several times and it’s always, ALWAYS good! During busy hours you’ll have to be a little patient (Hans and wife Ulrike after all are the only two in the kitchen), but it will be worth it. Very friendly staff and very good food (and usually LOTS of it). Make room for homemade dessert!!!
Delicious! We ate on their nice terrace.
Best clubhouse I ever had!
I recently had lunch at Paul's and was very disappointed. The breakfast menu described a few choices with multiple ingredients. The presentation of the food was nice but there wasn't much beyond a single ingredient in the dish. Service was good but food was overpriced.
Delicious breakfast - everything homemade including the bread. Yum!
It's ok
Always the best food, and more than enough to eat. I ordered the Liverpool plate. It comes served in a skillet! The cooks make their bread and jams from scratch; and you can taste the quality in their food. You'll never have a better breakfast!
The food, service and atmosphere was amazing! My meal had great presentation, and as a bonus was a nice large serving able to fill me up.
Great food
Amazing! Excellent Food and Service!
My husband and I ate dinner at Paul's, and enjoyed delicious meals and very good service. He had the Cafe de Paris schnitzel with German fried potatoes and I had the homemade german sausage with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes. Both were large portions, and more than we could eat. Would definitely go there again.
The food was vary good and the staff were very nice
Great little German restaurant along the south shore. Had a fantastic schnitzel, along with some nice and crispy fried potatoes.
Longest wait ever. It was not busy and we sat down and waited 20 mins before the waitress came with a menu. 15 mins before she took our order. We order toast eggs and bacon for 3 of us.we got our order i hour and 15 mins later. While we were waiting I asked the waitress very nicely how much longer she thought it would be and she said our order was next. Then the owner walked out to our table and said very rudely " DO you have a problem? The waitress said you had a problem here!" I could not believe how rude he was for a owner of a restaurant. I will never again eat there. I said to.my husband good thing we didn't have small children they would have been scared with his demeanor.
Brunch
The best jägershnitzel and chicken cordon bleu you will ever have in the maritimes, and a traditional applestrüdel to finish a gourmet meal!!! We will be back ????
My wife the chef was considering 3 places to eat in Liverpool NS. My choice Paul's German Cafe! Jane is not a sausage lover but I am. We/Jane (thank you honey) ate at Paul's! Number "ONE" the food was abundant. The flavors were even better. Hanz made us feel like we were in Germany/Austria again. "Danke schon" Hanz. Damien our waiter, top notch. I wish more waiter/waitress could be as real. We noticed, we liked and a job well done young man! Hans told us about their gluten free stragidy and we will be brining friends to experience great German cuisine with gluten concernes at rest. CAN'T WAIT no fooling! Gary F Gallant PS when my wife says it's really good, it's really good!
Two German grandfathers so this is food my family is familiar with. We ordered: jagerwurst, mashed potatoes, gravy and salad; the kiddo ordered from the kid's menu. We asked for the Vienna sausage and the wait staff said, so that's a hot dog. We all made faces. We are not a hot dog family. He settled for chicken nuggets and asked if he could substitute mashed potatoes instead of fries. Yes. I got the baked cauliflower casserole. The portions were generous and the food was delicious. The three star rating is because: we came in and wandered through the two rooms looking for a staff member or a sign or something - we couldn't see any signage (seat yourself / please let us seat you), couldn't see any staff, so we were on the point of leaving when the wait staff came out of the bathroom, looked unhappy, directed us to a seat and brought out some menus. It was uncomfortable and the uncomfortable feeling kind of hung around. ... so ... yeah.
The decor was a little odd and the service a bit slow but the food was amazing! My wife and I had eggs Benedict and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever had. The hollandaise was rich and creamy and the poached eggs were served in a potato pancake instead of an English muffin which I enjoyed much more than I thought. If you have the time, the meal is definitely worth the wait!
Dine in
Fabulous food, great service, generous portions, great atmosphere, and if you have been to Germany, then you will feel as if you are there again
Excellent lunch - will recommend.
Meal type
Really tasty. These dishes had been the most delicious that I tasted in Nova Scotia. Great!
Excellent food and service
The food was excellent. Generous portions of home cooked food with an attention to detail in the quality. The hosts' English is not the best and they have a very German forwardness that could rub you the wrong way. I thought it was endearing when the man said my Frau has to wash dishes to get a doggie bag. I highly recommend this restaurant. I won't be eating anywhere else in Liverpool.
Great German home cook! Friendly!
The server was so lovely and the food was excellent. Paul has a passion for his menu and it tastes like it. We said we would make this a regular stopping spot on the way to our cottage in Barrington. The food doesnt come fast - it comes done well!
Amazing breakfast the flavors were wonderful and the staff was so friendly. Cant wait for my next visit.
Everything we had was absolutely delicious.
What a miserable place - avoid at all costs. Drab interior, loud obnoxious radio playing (at this price, play something other than 80s rock for god’s sake), horrible lighting, slow and clodgy service (to be fair, there was only one server), outrageously expensive food of very much average quality. I really don’t see how it has anything to do with German food, either. Oh and they didn’t even bother checking our vaccine passports… not cool. Disappointed and annoyed!
Stayed open late for us which was awesome of them to do. Everyone was happy with their orders. Sitting on the deck in the warm sun while shade by the trees was a treat. Would recommend. Also catered to a vegetarian diet.
Quiet , excellent food, great service.
We had a great dinner there,my birthday ,the chef greeted us at door, served us our drinks, took our order explaining menu, very professional.the waitress served us our freshly made meals.we all enjoyed the food cleaning our plates.the drinks were great, too
Bit of a wait but great food.
We had an early supper of German food with what I would call international flavors. All foods are prepared fresh and had wonderful flavors. Loved the housemade iced tea. Alcohol is not on the menu, but you can bring your own wine or beer, minimal corkage fee applied. Cost reasonable for the taste and amount served...lots of both!!
Stopped in for breakfast around 11am. Huge portions, wonderful homemade jam and bread. Would definitely recommend if your looking for a good meal and a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Excellent, authentic German food. Portions are HUGE. Chef personally checked with us to ensure we were enjoying the food.
Delicious schnitzel and spatzle
Wonderful !
Good meal - a bit on the heavy side but to be expected
Had breakfast here twice, both times it was well worth coming in, the food is excellent, the staff is great and the restaurant is cozy and well planned for an excellent experience. Definitely recommend it!
We didn’t make reservations, so we had to wait for a while, but we were told ahead of time. It was worth the wait. Fantastic schnitzel, mushroom gravy, potatoes! You cannot go wrong eating here.
Just pulled off the 103 for some eggs and stumbled on this place, and it turned out to be a really fun experience compleat with the cook or owner walking around giving everyone hot mulled wine, the meal was spot on! Very exellent! Im going back.
Excellent food, clean and friendly staff.
German food authentic. Great food small but pleasant restaurant nice wait staff
Cannot say enough about Paul's. Have yet to leave here anything less than completely satisfied. Delicious everything.
Fantastic food, great portions and staff. The homemade iced tea is a must try! Defiantly a spot to check out if your in the area.
Staff was Great Food was Fantastic Serving were huge Next time I am in the area I will go back
Fantastic food, warm cozy atmosphere, friendly services.
If you like a traditional breakfast I don't think you can beat this. Everything obviously homemade, and delicious. More food than I could eat. Definitely value for money. The restaurant itself is also delightful. Makes me wish I lived in Liverpool.
The food was amazing...Service was also great.. We had a torte and chicken cordon bleu... Met the chef!!! Awesome place
Excellent German food. Very wholesome with a variety of choices; not the brown gravy over everything type. Small cozy place; good helpful waitress. The friendly patrons gave us great advice on local points of interest. A very nice experience.
Tasty fresh food. My vegetable pancake was delicious and I took half if it home for my lunch the next day. Service was attentive, efficient and friendly. and I love a restaurant where the servers have favourite meals too!
Better than expected and I already had high expectations. Very good service, good, venue. Highly recommended.
Delicious
If you are in Liverpool you seriously need to drop in and try this! Outstanding German Food, great beer, and lovely service. Bring your appetite!

Really good authentic German food. We love the Schnitzel.
Came in with 5 friends. Server was accommodating, attentive. fantastic service, food was phenomenal. Had the breakfast and wasn't disappointed in the slightest. Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys good food.
Awesome place to have a bite to eat. Well served. Friendly staff and good food portions
My only regret is i can only give 5 stars. This was probably the best meal we've ever had. This was better than anything I had in Germany. The sauerkraut was transcendental, the wurst was homemade as was the ice cream. The staff was incredibly friendly and I think I'm camping out on the deck tonight to wait for breakfast.
Very authentic German food
Food was quite good but had to wait our meal for an hour..
Great food, friendly staff, came and checked on us a few times, lots of food for leftovers, will be back.
Amazing food and friendly staff
Awesome meal + service was great
Good food, Great host, You won't go away hungry. Come with an appetite.
Great food, huge portions. Staff is amazing! So friendly. Super homey atmosphere... it's like going to a friend's place for lunch/supper. Wonderful for children!
Great people, great food. We will be back
Great food, large portions.
Very delicious
Excellent food. Great desserts.
Fast service, amazing food, truly the best breakfast I have had. Can't wait to try their dinner.
The owner is so inviting and is filled with locals. The breakfast is amazing along with the schnitzel. Breakfast ranges from 7-15 cad and the schnitzel is 15-25 cad. So worth it and such a great brunch location.
It was fantastic. Haven't had good schnitzel in a while. Very friendly and the food is very fresh.
Great homemade breakfast, which filled me for the day. Portions are huge.
Absolutely wonderful meal. Generous portions, made to order. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Food here is wonderful. Try the Hawaiian Schnitzel ???? Their soup is out of this world. Service is very friendly. We try to eat here each time we visit Liverpool.
The warm environment and great service are enough to keep us coming back. Not to mention the absolutely fantastic food.
Truly superb food in a lovely atmosphere. Every dish is prepared lovingly with great care and attention to detail. Only the highest quality ingredients, yet prices are reasonable, especially by the measure of larger cities. The desserts are to die for! The owners, who are German and prepare all the food, set the bar high indeed!
Great food experience
The service was very slow but when the food finally arrived, it was delicious!
Tried for the first time and food was very delicious .
(Translated) We were here for lunch during the Junior Curling World Championships. Very good food and nice service. I can recommend it. (Original) Wir waren während den Junioren Curling WM zum Mittagessen hier. Sehr gutes Essen und nette Bedienung. Kann ich empfehlen.
Coszy place to eat ..great food German and Canadian food...The cakes are awsome of course you have to wait a bit because its fresh prepared????????????
Friendly small-town feel, good food, bit of a wait
The food was tremendous.....Service awesome...highly recommend...come HUNGRY
The breakfast there is hearty and really good, no matter which one your choose. Portions are generous, it is served hot by a friendly staff and you are made to feel welcome. Give it a try.
Google maps tells me I've been here... I don't recall anything about it, but Google maps can't possibly be wrong! So five stars for you!
Ordered a dish (maybe pauls shnitzel?) Anyways delicious cant wait to go back again.
Good, huge breakfasts. But we didn't realize till hours later what a gem this place is. After breakfasts, we got three desserts to go. Had one last night (blueberry cheesecake) and just finished another tonight (baiser cake). One more to go tomorrow night. These desserts are AMAZING! If you go to this restaurant, get a dessert, too, even to go!
Very good German breakfast. Friendly people. Generous portions of very reasonably priced food. One of the few places in Liverpool open for breakfast on Sunday morning.
The absolute best food you could ever ask for
An amazing breakfast and wonderful staff. Beware the menu has no warnings about quantity so bring an appetite and a doggy bag, delicious!!
Very nice place to go on the South Shore for an evening meal. Great decor, friendly service and staff and excellent food. My wife had the cheese pasta salad and I had the infamous Paul's Pork Schnitzel. Both meals were delicious and so was the German Beer. I would highly recommend this place to anyone for a great dining experience.
Fabulous food and in such a small town. I hope the residents realize how lucky they are!
Loved this place! Great food and service. We are Never disappointed coming here.
Great food, lovely presentation. I loved the small tomato that was carved into a wee basket and filled with coleslaw as a garnish n my my eggs Florentine ❤️ attentive owner. We will be back.
Great friendly service, good food, huge portion.
(Translated) Excellent, very tasty food. (Original) Excelente, muy rica la comida.
I was really, really, disappointed with my experience here. I had heard from family how fantastic Paul's was, and so went to the restaurant. Service took forever-it was more than 15 minutes to even get a menu. While the place was quite busy, the food took a ridiculously long amount of time to get out. One person at our table just had something small, and so received their item long before the rest of us (without being asked if that was ok). When the food came out, some meals were frigid cold, and all of it was missing some part that was listed in the menu. the worst part, however, came when we asked for the bill (after waiting for probably ten to fifteen minutes)-we were told no, that they wouldn't give us the bill yet, the had other tasks first and would get to he bill when those were done. Overall, even though the food was good, I won't be going back because of how terrible the service was.
100% the best breakfast i have ever had. Day 2 and im still trying to finish it. I would make the 2 hour drive just for this place. If you haven't tried it yet make the trip!
While renting a cottage in Shelburne, we decided to visit Liverpool for the day. So glad we did, or we would never have experienced the pleasure of eating at this wonderful little restaurant! It was a beautiful, hot, late September day so we sat outside on the lovely patio with good qualitt, comfortable furniture. The inside is also beautifully decorated and very relaxing. Now to the food! We both opted to have the home made sausages, with a mushroom gravy and German style potatoes. It came with a tasty side salad. Without a doubt these were the best sausages we have ever tasted in our 64 years! They were perfectly seasoned and so juicy! And the potatoes! Crispy, not greasy and with some chopped bacon ...I was sure I would never be able to finish the generous portion but I had to! They were too delicious to leave any behind. We were hoping to try the apple strudel as we'd heard good things about it, but we had no room for dessert. So we did the logical thing and took two portions to go. It didn't disappoint! The pastry and filling are mouth wateringly good, and the addition of sliced almonds makes it the best I've ever had. They have a good selection of beers and wines to accompany your meal, and we had excellent service from the waiter. I forgot to ask his name, but I believe he said he was from Milton. He helped to add to the great experience, and even brought our dog a bowl of water! We had a lovely chat and a few laughs with Hans, the owner/chef, at the end of our meal, which added to the great experience we had at this wonderful restaurant. Go! You will not regret it!
