Amazing burger with bacon jam! The fries were so good, I actually ate them!
Really great, service good, food great. Lamb burger delicious.
The truffle fries are my fave
I had heard good things about this place but was disappointed. Our server was all over the place going so far as to tell us that the cook was in a bad mood that day. We came a bit before dinner so we had to order from the bar menu. The burgers were dry and the oysters had probably seen better days. This place might be great for drinks but I wouldn't eat here again.
Good atmosphere. Good food. Great staff
Unique and cozy atmosphere. Great service!
Awesome band 11/7/2019 great time after the Rangers game. Adam makes great drinks.
Food was okay, drink selection is really lacking unless you only want overly hoppy stuff.
Excellent decor, atmosphere, and staff. Solid 5/5 experience.
Amazing local focused food. I had heard the buzz about this place and decided to check it out. It lived up to my expectations and more. The food was absolutely amazing! I had the lamb shank with celeriac and winter root vegetables. The lamb …
Great atmosphere and food!
A beautiful space with wonderful ambience. Try the beet tartare appetizer. It was incredibly tasty. :)
If I could give more stars I would... Fabulous food at fair price for the quality... Yum!!!
Food was great, server very friendly. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is the food is a little eccentric. I did not know what some things were, or would otherwise be averse to eating what was offered. Perhaps some regular fare to accompany the other offerings would help.
Very nice atmosphere, beautifully decorated place. Was pretty disappointed with both the food and service.
Tasty food and great service. Soup of the day was a wild mushroom with burnt leek -- so tasty!
Good food and good service!
Amazing bar staff. Top notch
We came for live music and had a great meal and drinks. Service was on point: drinks were never empty and food was prompt and delicious. An excellent experience!
Every thing was a disappointment
Overall a good experience, with tasty food.
Soooo gooooooood I loved the Brussels sprouts!!! Also the staff was very friendly the ambiance was lovely and the live music was awesome! I will definitely return!
Good food great waiter Elie
Good drinks, decent service. Was ignored by two staff members before we received our bill.
We spent Sunday afternoon at the Rich Uncle listening to Great music and eating the best burger I ever had. The servers were quick and very friendly. I'd recommend this place to anyone. Thanks for a great afternoon.
The food and atmosphere were fantastic but the service was sub par, constantly had to flag the server down for drinks and our water glasses were regularly left unfilled. After we paid the red headed waiter approached the table to call me out and ask if I thought a 6% tip was acceptable. He then proceeded to yell at me and suggested I paid with credit instead of cash to give him a larger tip. I declined and he told us to leave. Would not go back
Thoroughly enjoy this tavern. It is decorated and finished so well. The cigar box menu is a fun take on the norm. A great gem in the heart of downtown Kitchener.
Good food. Nice atmosphere. Excellent service. I'm going to go back.
We love going to The Rich Uncle! They have some incredible drinks and amazing food! It never disappoints and has become our favourite place in town!
Great atmosphere. Definitely nothing like it in the KW area. Refreshing. Very friendly staff. Accomodating. Bartender made me a lovely mocktail, a nice change for someone pregnant and on a night out with friends! Food was delicious. Big portions. I had the lobster roll which was very filling. Amazing fries. Will be back soon!
Fast service... one rude bartender but another super friendly staff made up for him the rest of the evening!
Unbelievable brunch and unbelievable staff! The harvest table is great but the brunch mains are out of this world. We had both the pork belly and salmon eggs benedict - everything was outstanding. Will definitely be our go-to brunch spot when we’re in the city!
Extremely tasty and awesome atmosphere! Thanks for everything!
Cool place with a great atmosphere. Parking is hard to find. Had to walk a block and a half. Food was great! Kitchener needs more places like this.
We went to The Rich Uncle for the first time this past Friday night for drinks. The staff were amazing and we absolutely loved our experience. We will definitely be back. Also, I appreciate that you guys support local social and sustainability causes. Your initiatives did not go unnoticed for us! A contributing factor for sure as to why we'll continue to support your business regularly :)
Very comfy place. My friends and I just visited Kitchener’s Christmas Market but suddenly decided to stop here. Fantastic atmosphere✨ Christmas is there. Food is very tasty and personal very polite. I highly recommend this place. . We ordered: •poutine •burger •duck wings.
I went to this place for a private event. I absolutely love the interior of the restaurant. It has a nice modern vibe. I had a incredible meal and I really enjoyed myself!
Fantastic food and service. Went the extra mile to ensure dietary restrictions were accounted for. Looking forward to our next visit.
The food was excellent....not your average tavern!! Something for every palate and budget. Great vibe and atmosphere. Helpful staff and we loved The Study upstairs...a fun night at a great new eatery in downtown Kitchener!
Amazing food! Ask for Adam, he is the best server ever!!! Stellar experience!
After a week here, Best Bar food we found in Kitchener. Excellent
Came here for a sit-down lunch. The food is fantastic. We had the lobster rolls and they were hands-down the best lobster rolls we've ever had. Lots of lobster in a generously long buttery toasted brioche bun. *drools* Great fries also. Really impressed and will be back soon.
Love this place! Charming environment, generous portions, good prices, great service and overall a fantastic experience. Great selection of wine, cocktails and local craft beer!
Great food but you have to eat apps if you're a veg.
Dine in
My husband and I had a great dinner at The Rich Uncle Tavern. It was our first dinner out in many months and exceeded our expectations. The food was delicious and the cocktails were amazing! (I would highly recommend the Earl Grey sour) Thanks to Adam for the great service and recommendations! We had a great outing. Glad to see that a local establishment can weather the storm of COVID.
We were in "the study" which is a lovely space upstairs where they still have full restaurant and bar service. It was martini night, so drinks were just $5 and there was great live music. The truffle gnocchi was also totally amazing!! The whole night out would have been worth it even just for that.
Super cool
I originally went to the Rich Uncle when it first opened and was quite underwhelmed. Tried it twice and didn't plan to go again. Then covid etc. Gave it another try tonight as I wanted to see the musical entertainment Katy Topham. We figured we'd just go for drinks but then looked at the menu. The Ploughman's Board (charcuterie board) was delish. Should have asked for more toast off the bat (we always need more lol) but otherwise awesome. The pickled egg was a little vinegary... and could use a bit of pate (to spread on first and hold the stuff on...). But excellent pork terrine and lovely local cheese. Spot on. Toffee pudding wasn't quite what my husband was used to from his days in England... but super delish. And the PORT! Not a lot of places serve port anymore and it was a welcome treat. Amazing. Vanessa and George at the bar were attentive, helpful and very personable. I spoke to Julia the GM before we left and complimented them on how improved it is since our last visit. I spoke to several other staff (ok I'm chatty) and all were lovely. My husband and I loved this spot when it was Peter Martin's and then the Berlin. We were so sad when the Berlin closed. But I think the new version of The Rich Uncle may be our new favourite spot for "fine dining". The menu is fine dining (lamb shank, Duck etc) but the atmosphere is casual. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. Highly recommend. And the entertainment was excellent. :)
My fiancé and I went to the Rich Uncle tonight for drinks and an appetizer before the Cruise on King. Luckily we went early before it was busy but our service was terrible. It took forever to clear dirty plates, we had to ask for more drinks (we weren’t asked if we wanted more), and we had to hunt our server down for the bill. None of the staff seemed to know what they were doing. Even the middle aged male manager didn’t know where a single table was (he kept bringing food outside that was meant for inside tables and him and a waiter had a very loud conversation directly beside us about who the food belonged to). Same thing happened with our drinks, someone else brought our drinks out and asked our server who it was for her she had no idea. They went back inside and then returned with the drinks. Another couple walked up when we were already seated and asked our waiter if they could have the only remaining patio table. She said yes and just as they walked over the hostess brought a couple out to sit at that table as they had been waiting inside. They were so mad their table had been given up, due to disorganization, they left immediately. The charcuterie board was wildly underwhelming and expensive for how little food it was. It was essentially a few pieces of meat, one of which was inedible as it was entirely fat and couldn’t be chewed, 5 half slices of burnt toast, tasteless mustard seed, 1 pickled grape finely chopped, and some pickled onion. 2 other people on the patio also ordered this board and theirs looked quite a bit different than ours...you would think that should be consistent. To top it off the bathrooms are incredibly small. Only 2 stalls for the women with ONE sink. Absolutely ridiculous. Will not be back any time soon.
Great atmosphere and quality, live music
We could not have had better service tonight. Natalie was absolutely fantastic. The bartender went above and beyond to give my friend a great birthday. The food was pretty fantastic too. Thank you!
Great place for days and nights, workdays and weekends.
Dinner
SO GOOD
Excellent service and delicious food.
Bartender was really great with suggesting the perfect drink for what I wanted. Wonderful service and great atmosphere!
Yummy sandwiches for lunch. Pricey as a lunch place. Will come back for dinner and try out their dinner menu.
Server did not take allergies seriously!! When asked what gluten free options they offered the server Kayla replied with "well it's obvious" like it was a bother. She did point to one or two items on menu. I ended up ordering the lobster roll as she ensured it would be gluten free and served on a gluten free bun. Well I can guarantee it wasn't gluten free because I had an allergic reaction.
I'm interested in this spot but is it affordable
great environment. great menu. horrible staff. the staff cussed at my table, trying to be funny although came off aggressive. Ran out of bread early in the night and messed all the bills up 3 times. She consistently ignored the table and called a person out at my table out before we had finished paying for not leaving a tip when he planned on leaving a cash tip. super awkward and embarrassing
Was there on a Tuesday night, not busy at all. Slow service and lukewarm food.
Really had an excellent night celebrating here with friends! The rooms upstairs are very warm and cozy and the staff and very friendly! All my drinks were made just right while the food was hot and plentiful! Would definitely visit here again.
Stopped by for a Saturday afternoon drink with my Son and his girlfriend that were visiting from Montreal. We ended up having a few drinks sitting on the terrace. The server Joe kept us very entertained. Will go back again . The only think that would have made it even more enjoyable if there was music on the terrace. But over all we enjoy ourselves
We didn't make a reservation so we were seated upstairs. Love the cigar-lounge feel, it was quieter than the main dining room but still a full bar. Beers on tap slightly different from menu, server was very helpful with ours and other tables to ask what beer you normally like and make a recommendation. Our lamb burger and bangers & mash were both very good. Bangers a little on the salty side for me but the mash was outstanding- I wish there was twice as much. I tend to judge restaurants by their fries, and the fries with the burger were deeply browned, well seasoned, and sprinkled with rosemary!!...I stole a lot of my husband's fries...
Best burger I've ever had! I love the selection of local craft beers and cider. The atmosphere was great for relaxing and chatting with friends. The drink menu was in a cigar box, fun!
Fantastic local and international beer selection. Weekly drink specials and live music in "The Study" the upstairs bar attached to the restaurant is the perfect place to relax with friends. Interesting and delicious food menu but I would advise sitting indoors even during the summer.
Just stopped for a drink after a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant. I asked the server if they could make a coffee with Baileys and she delivered!!! Really nice coffee. The service was excellent and the server took some time to …
I had the seafood platter and it was great. My friends had a steak and they found it to be great as well. Slight downer is the fact that vegetarian options are limited. But on the whole impressive.
I went here for a meal after a meeting and I had the mafaldine! It was as delicious as it was decadent! …
Great atmosphere and food. Service was quick, polite and absolutely charming.
Best restaurant ever. Great locally sourced ingredients, great service, great beer selection, great food.
Amazing service !!!!
The food was amazing, had the lamb burger and was blown away. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had. On top of that, the service was also really good. Servers and staff were all very friendly. The price for the food was also quite fair for the great quality.
On 11/14/2020 we had our wedding dinner here. The food was fantastic. We had a few picky eaters in our group (my self included) and everyone loved it. On top of the food being absolutely amazing the service was just as amazing! Looking after our group and other tables at the same time they where on the ball! Huge thank you to the front and back of house staff for making our night that much more special!
I had the lamb burger with truffle fries. Everything rated great and i highly recommend this! The server was fun and very knowledgeable. I have nothing bad to say! Go check them out.
Good beer with nice service, fun barmaid!
Staff are exceptionally friendly and personable. Atmosphere is great for a date or a group of friends (music is well chosen for the ambiance and at a comfortable level). The cocktails are creative and exceptionally fresh (try the Limitless). Dessert was a bit small for the price but tasted phenomenal. A must try place!
Good food and excellent service. A little pricey but overall, really good.
Remarkable atmosphere .....tragically terrible service? Eye contact and a "Hey I'll be right with you goes a long way for me.
We tried the restaurant based upon our sons recommendation and were not disappointed in the least. Food was great and cooked perfectly. The cheesecake was very good. Service was excellent. We’ll be back again.
My friends and I went here for Sunday brunch. My smoked salmon Benedict was quite good, and everyone else seemed satisfied with their dishes too. Thanks!
Great feel, decent cocktails. A casual upscale dining experience.
Brunch was delicious! Family friendly, great food and amazing service! Can't wait to come back.
Amazing food, amazing drinks and amazing atmosphere!
Menu of very well made delicious dishes , and wonderful cocktails! Lovely interior and friendly staff helped make a lovely dinner and drinks experience
Best brunch in Kitchener. Great food, service and atmosphere. Definitely will be back!
Went to the Rich Uncle tonight for a birthday dinner. Food was exceptional in both taste and quantity. Drinks were offered in both small and tall glasses. Try the duck wing appetizers. 7 large size wings very tasty. Adam was our waiter and is very well suited for the position. Professional and very entertaining. Would highly recommend and will return again. Beautiful atmosphere.
They offer cool experiences ( chefs table)
Great atmosphere, good food and plenty of drink choices!
I went twice and it was lovely! Hard to tell what is better: the food or the staff. The atmosphere is also great with live music and beautiful decoration. …
Great service, Adam was friendly and attentive. Upstairs study are is one of kind. Went up to check it out, couldn't help but stay for a few drinks. Highly recommend.
A friend was staying in the hotel nearby and we were just looking for a place to have a drink. Ended up eating one of the most tasty things I’ve ever had in my life, the heirloom tomato tart—incredible flavour. And the bar had great atmosphere.
Cute pub. The service and food were great. They have a small outdoor patio as well. Not your standard bar fare. Recommended
We had a great dinner at the Rich Uncle's Tavern. Great food and good drinks including a delicious mocktail to make this preggo feel cool.
Amazing. We ordered an appetizer, then another and then another. We never made it to a main because the appetizers were ridiculously amazing and filling. We had the meat and cheese board (well matched cheese and meets with other accessories), duck wings ( best wings I have ever had) and melted Brie with jam and fixings. Wanted to keep ordering more delicious sounding items on the menu but both of us were too full. Well, except for desert which was also delightful. Not cheap but not outrageous for the quality. I am frugal and I plan to go back.
Poor service. Only went because I had gotten a gift card before Christmas. When I went to pay was told the only way I could use the gift card was if I took the remainder in a paper gift certificate of the balance. With how poor the service was I wasn’t going to go back. Wasn’t offered an apology or any alternative. Won’t be back. Update: General Manager asked me to reach out to him and now won’t respond to me.
First of all, the service was great. My son and I walked in for the last bit of the Sunday brunch buffet and had the worst food I've ever experienced at a restaurant...fast food included. The buffet included an array of stale, rock-hard croissants, squares, etc. and quiche that looked like it had been sitting on that table since the dark ages. I regrettably took a bite of the quiche and prayed I didn't get food poisoning the next day. I thought that the a la carte menu might be better, but it consisted of my son's room temperature schnitzel sandwich which, in keeping with the buffet, was on a stale bun almost impossible to chew through, and hash browns, which I guess translates directly to partially cooked potatoes at The Rich Uncle. The waitress, who again was lovely, was visibly sympathetic and told us we could take some stuff to go from the buffet, though I figured I'd have better luck finding something fresh in the trash can out front on king street.
Fathers' Day brunch was delish - sooo chic!
Wow this place is amazing. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The live band was awesome on Thursdays. They are lgbtq friendly. I wish I could give this place more stars. And the creme brulee was perfect.
We had the pleasure of dining at the rich uncle tavern on opening night. The wait staff were knowledgeable and worked very hard to provide a great customer experience. We ordered the burger and the charcuterie board. The burger was made with beef cheek - omg the flavour was to die for! It was probably the most delicious burger I have had in a long time. The charcuterie board was nicely stacked with meats. I wish the had a board that was a mix of meats and cheeses (some nuts would be nice too!) but all in all it was great! I would recommend this place and I look forward to our next visit!
This place was amazing! The food and drinks were on point and even on a busy night the service was sweet and swift :)
Always love stumbling upon somewhere that does aunthentic Thai food in a relaxed setting. I had phad Thai chicken, lovely tasting and a great plate full.Just like it was in Thailand amazing quick and yummy. I had Papaya salad and Chicken chilli and basil.
Great experience and good food! Staff and management to be commended
Great food and unique decor makes for a great upscale experience that doesn't take itself too seriously
Amazing atmosphere and friendly service.
Love this place! The atmosphere is fantastic, the food and cocktails are awesome and our waitress, Caroline, was incredible!
Cool vibe, good drinks, crazy slow service. We were a group of 7 and we were there for almost 3 hrs by the time we ordered, ate, and paid.
Nice place, the atmosphere is awesome, the food is good, the server are very kind and the live music just make everything even better.
Amazing food and atmosphere in Downtown Kitchener
Meal type
I dont have time to blather on about the snooping I did so that I could know what may have happened at other tables or to whine that a brand new restaraunt with lots of moving parts dared to have a new team send the wrong drinks to the wrong table... the audacity!!!! ????... Oh and last time I checked I am not going to give a restaraunt a bad review because they only have a two stall bathroom and one sink... this isnt a Jays game... I can tell you only about the food and service I received I really liked this place, I think it deserves 4.5*’s. ok it is new and has a few hiccups to work out, our butter was to cold to spread... not sure u can deduct points for that. 2 of us had great beers, charcuterie (pretty wow, but would like options for mustard and not just seeds) Salt cod gratine( very wow) seafood platter( nice assortment, fresh, generous... what would I change? Add some cocktail sauce for shrimp... such small refinements are needed... and that my opinion, perhaps the chef has considered these and does not want to be like every other place, The trout pate’ ( ok, it was wonderful but comes with a hard crust of animal lard? Perhaps duck? Im not refined enough to eat that but once removed I would have fought you to the death for the trout, lastly we had the Halibut( the menu description does not do it justice, extremely well conceived and executed). Overall its excellent, for a 30 day open, gastro tavern with intricate flavour profiles and premium ingredients its well on its way to being a “best bet”. We have already invited friends for our next visit.
We paid $17 for a tiny piece of toast with crab, and $20 for a small selection of meat that can easily be found at my local supermarket. You have got to be kidding me!
Outstanding service, good vibe and delicious food. Loved it!
Wow - delightful and very tasty! Very chic decor, great if you want to enjoy a great meal in jeans or dress up a bit. The staff is also extremely well trained and super courteous.
Elevated bar food in a cool bar. Service was very slow.
Place was nice but looks unfinished. Missing drapery, hooks and few things. Creepy looking old pics of kids on the walls. Drinks were pretty good. Haven't tried the food yet but looks good and well priced.
Beautiful interior, especially the second floor. Food was excellent, service was great.
The food is always good here. We tried the upstairs for the first time which was a great spot!
The food was good, as was the service. It was very busy, which meant it was a bit loud... the sound didn't impact us, and we are happy to see a business in DTKitchener doing so well.
Reservation online through "tock"for the Sunday went smoothly. Got the time we were hoping for. When we got there, we had to wait a few minutes, then were seated. Server was a bit slow but, we had no rush. We weren't sure of someof the tastes for the wine and then beer is so we were given an opportunity to taste two different types before our selection. Food was delicious on all ends for all 6 of us. Atmosphere wasn't too loud. One of our guests was hard of hearing and they did not seem to be affected. They were seated in the middle, but that didn't affect us. Definitely will return another day
This place is hands-down awesome. The beer selection is excellent and the food is superb. Our group had the duck wings, beef and lamb burgers, lobster roll, and pork schnitzel; everything was delicious. The duck wings were especially good. An excellent upgrade from the Berlin. Would highly recommend! ????????
Great food and service. Nice atmosphere.
Great burgers, freaking awsome fries well worth the price! I love the fact that you can order how well you'd like your burger! Huge selection of beverages!
I like the atmosphere here. Live music upstairs on Fridays. Some really good food too.
Second time here and again it did not disappoint. Duck wings were the favourite of the night but also enjoyed the flat bread and cheese dip. Good atmosphere and cool decor. Also loved the live band on Saturday night. Highly recommend!
Had an excellent midweek dinner here. Not a lot of changes on main floor since Berlin, but what they did do was all well done. Great atmosphere, even on a relatively quiet night. Hostess was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Waiter was quite good also. Everything on the menu looked great. Our party had 3 different dishes and all were excellent. Extensive craft beer list (draft and cans) and good selection of whiskey and cocktails. Will definitely be heading back soon.
Our table of 4 arrived at 5:15pm on a Sunday night, with a total of 4 other tables seated in the whole place, and it still took over an hour for our main courses to come. Our waiter was lackadaisical and inattentive, not checking on us for 45 minutes after our appetizer was served. We had to flag down a staff member to check on our order - which then happened to show up right away - and the burgers were cold already. The food tasted good enough but definitely not worth the price or poor service.
We visited the Rich Uncle on Wednesday evening this past week. This was our second visit to the Rich Uncle and like the first visit the service was extremely disappointing. Friends our ours were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary and as a group we decided to give the Rich Uncle another try (I was apprehensive after my first visit but thought perhaps they deserved another chance). Our friends showed up in the wedding gear they wore to their wedding 20 years ago and all the patrons of the restaurant were very sweet in congratulating them on this milestone. The staff of the restaurant however were less than stellar, leaving us all with a bad taste in our mouth. When I ordered the beef tartare the server asked me “how would you like that done?” Well last time I checked beef tartare was only really prepared one way which is raw. Most of us had our appetizers and mains arrive at the same time, which was frustrating as the whole idea of an appetizer is to enjoy it before the main arrives. The couple we were celebrating ordered a charcuterie board which they said was the worst charcuterie board they have ever had (it was sparse with only meat and bread – no cheese or other accompaniments). Since all of us except the couple we were celebrating had their appetizers and mains arrive at the same time we were all finished before they got their mains, so we ended up sitting there for about 20 minutes waiting for their food and continuously asking for it. Once it arrived finally we all sat there and watched them eat which I am sure was uncomfortable for them. These are not the memories you want on your 20th wedding anniversary. The other thing that I found very unfortunate was that this would have been a great opportunity for the Rich Uncle to shine in the area of customer experience. Having a couple come in and choosing your restaurant in their original wedding gear to celebrate 20 years of marriage would have been a fantastic Instagram post promoting the restaurant (totally free advertising, seems like a no brainer). A glass of champagne or prosecco on the house so that everyone could do a toast would have been a nice gesture that would have left us all with such a nice impression would have been a lovely gesture. We were at Lokal earlier for cocktails and they gave them a bottle of wine which was so thoughtful and they told everyone they knew about the kind gesture that will never be forgotten. Instead we literally got some of the worst service I have experienced in years. Needless to say, I gave this place two tries and I will not be back. I work in customer experience and this place needs some serious help in that department.
No wheelchair parking or access to 2nd level.
Awesome downtown Kitchener spot. Sick vibe.
Great pub in downtown Kitchener Ontario. Ambiance was a typical brew pub atmosphere. Staff was very friendly. I had the burger and tomato soup. The burger came with a bacon jam which was absolutely great! Tomato soup was also very good. Definitely worth trying.
Incredible food! The nachos are so much value for the price! They are a little spicy, but man are they delicious!
A friend had his wedding here and it was a great night. The food was so good, great draft selection and the staff were fantastic. Highly recommended if you have an event for sure
I love ???? those duck wings! My problem eating there is I always eat them! ????
Menu is ok - seems a bit pricy, Nice atmosphere
Food was amazing, waiter was attentive, very knowledgeable about the menu and it has a fun atmosphere.
Excellent food and service. We had a variety of small plates for sharing and each one was beautifully presented and tasted great. Staff is excellent. Also is dog friendly and two service dogs came in while we were there, increasing the like …
First time and it was delicious pub food but not greasy! Great selection but not overwhelming and the classic fish and chips was amazing. The duck wings so much flavour. The live band was fun loud at the front but if you sit at the back would be easier to chat. Great cocktails.
Wow this place is amazing. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The live band was awesome on Thursdays. They are lgbtq friendly. I wish I could give this place more stars. And the creme brulee was perfect. one issue, parking is hard
Excellent food and drink. A little pricy. Great service. Interesting decor, they spent a lot of money. Could be in Niagara on the Lake
We went for lunch after my oncology appointment, it is a tradition for us to eat out afterwards, atmosphere and decor is great, waitress was friendly but rattled off the specials very quickly, we didn't catch a word of what was said - prices were not mentioned, tried to work through the menu, but perhaps the place is too upscale for us, we couldn't figure out what to order, I had a beer recommended by the server, it was good, wife had a ginger ale and we left without eating. Would have been nice to have something recommended to us, or told the price of the specials, then we would have eaten! I am not sure why restaurants feel the need to make menus so obscure or just put MP where the price should be... honestly MP after PASTA, really?!? its Pasta!
Thank you for the absolutely stellar dinner. My wife and I went out together to celebrate our anniversary. Our waitstaff "Jeffrey" was charming and funny and set the tone for a great experience. We had the spicy nuts (tasty), greens salad, carrot salad and the truffle gnocchi. The food was delicious, arrived in a timely fashion and was artfully presented (not fussy, just pretty). The decor is fun and a little whimsical with fun elements to look at while waiting for your food. I heartily recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back!
Used the conference room upstairs. Great food, service, and facility for our group.
Exceptional food. AmaIng service. Very high class but not stuck up at all. I will be coming back for sure.
Great service, great food (mushroom app, lamb burger, clubhouse, roasted brussel sprouts) and cool ambience.
Had lunch with my co-workers here today and it was great! Thank you for accommodating my Keto diet with the duck wings - they were delicious! Looking forward to coming back
Great layout and great food. They had a reduced menu due to blues fest but made an effort to acquire off menu fish choice without prompting. Congrats.
Good service, good food, great company.
I wish I could give this place a full five stars, because I absolutely love the concept and decor here. The study is fantastic & cozy, and often features live music on the weekends. But I was unimpressed by the food and service, at least in the study where I dined. I ordered a $17 beef-cheek burger and it (and the bun) arrived charred and overcooked. The bartender did not return to check on the meal, and he neglected to mention that there was a $5 cocktail menu on Fridays. I would have started with a martini had I been properly informed. The general attitude was as lackluster as the food. I will be back to enjoy the atmosphere and beverages, but there is much better food available at those price points downtown.
Been there a few times now. New to the city my husband and I were happy to move close to such a good find. Great food and great service.
Love the service and atmosphere here. Awesome food and the servers are amazing!
Loved the burger! The fries are amazing too. Great beer selection!
Good food. Quality service. Great atmosphere.
Between the food, drinks and atmosphere this place knocks it out of the park. Upscale comfort food done right in a cozy inviting setting. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the restaurant itself was gorgeous. Check out the upstairs lounge, definitely the place to go to get a drink or a meal on a chilly winter evening.
Amazing food every time. Great atmosphere. Great for a Saturday night dinner, also great to just stop in and have a drink at the bar
Was there on opening day. Got excellent food and service. Recommended.
The waiter asked if I wanted a refill and didn't inform me they weren't free. They were 2.50 each on top so I ended up with a 31 dollar bill giving me a bit of price shock. Yes not every bar gives free refills but most do so I didn't think to ask. The beef pie I had was good but not really better than other places on King street. However other people had other dishes and seemed quite pleased so ymmv.
First, they did not have any burgers, yet did not tell us until we were ready to place our order. Then, we waited over half an hour for our caesar salad that never came so we paid for our drinks and left. No apologies were given by any of the staff.
Food was amazing, great service, recommande to anyone
Excellent food and service and enjoyed a live comedy show.
The "Library" upstairs. A great venue for a party. Cosy atmosphere.
I stopped in early on when they first opened and I was a bit out off by the shear price of the menu. But coming off being the Berlin, it made sense that it would be a bit more upscale. Once I actually tasted the food though, I was sold. There was a clear passion behind the dishes I tried and some care put into every plate. This is definitely more of a treat or special occasion place for me, but I go in knowing that I'll be dining on something that has been well handled and well cared for. All of this with friendly knowledgeable staff to boot!
We should take no pleasure in failing DTK businesses. But I will be happy when this one fails. They have had absolutely no consideration for the residents they move in beside. They planted their "live music" stage right under their windows. Not even part of their property.. And while most of us work from home have to hear bloody flamengo dances and angst ridden soloists squealing while we try to talk to customers from home. They have caused several fires in their own establishment sending smoke into the neighbours building This due to careless staff. Most recent one this month. Never an apology to neighbours, never a warning about the noise. Sorry but we were here first,. They try to take parking spots not theirs and use up space not theirs in the back. They carelessly left flammable in a van out back and the van exploded. Even the Fire department said the amount of calls to this 1 establishment are excessively. They've got to go.
Excellent food, crazy beer selection, awesome atmosphere and killer live music! Definately worth a visit!
The Rich Uncle Tavern offers two interesting levels. If stairs are an issue you won't see the upper level's party room or bar. The bar offers regular musical entertainment. Our party of six was very satisfied with our food choices; a burger, a vegetable curry dish, a carrot salad, borscht, and duck confit. The sticky toffee pudding was a lovely finishing touch. Visiting this Uncle is worthwhile.
The food was excellent. I think when they open up again, they should either give full service to the people sitting at the bar or make clear that they are not equipped to fully serve singles at the bar i.e. no cutlery, no napkins and taking forever to bring your bill and then running away even though you have cash in hand. In hind sight, some of this might have been worry about the pending shut down. I have always enjoyed this restaurant. I think I was comparing the service that I received on March 13th which was just in middle of all of the virus problems with the usually great service that I had received in the past. It was quite shocking.
Reasonable prices & excellent service. The food was really good too.
My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant on Valentines Day. We experienced fun and great service, and the food was so much better than your typical pub style food. I would definitely recommend eating here! If we ever visit Kitchener again, we will definitely eat here again.
Just wanted to share a great experience we had on Friday, Jeffrey was our server who was friendly and explained the menu to us well. Got the ploughman board for an app to split, was excellent. Place was busy but our mains came out with a bit of a wait , but was well worth it. Manager/Owner checked up on us and to make sure all was well. Will be back... thank you Rich Uncle for the service/experience.
There must have been a mix up in the kitchen with one of our orders so my dish was cold but tasted amazing. We didn’t have to mention it to the staff they acknowledge it first. The atmosphere was great and everything else was fantastic.
Great meal. Wonderful service.
Got sick from eating here and they would only let me order from the brunch menu on Sunday morning. Plus 4 other people got sick that afternoon also from eating brunch.
Great atmosphere
Waitress is extremely nice and considerate, the duck wings were absolutely amazing! Recommend.
Great menu and enjoyed live music with safe social distancing
Beautiful place. I was there for a business dinner and we were entertaining customers from Australia. They really loved the place too! The food was very good as was the service. One of our folks thought the service was a bit slow but we were about 19. One person thought the fries were too salty, most likely due to them adding Parmasean to them which I requested to be left off. Maybe they didn't use a the real McCoy Parmigiano-Reggiano not sure. However, that's the best steak I've had locally in a long time. Highly recommend it.
Don’t come here for brunch - food took way too long and the portions were so small
Service
Lovely food, great range of beer and friendly staff
I oredered fish and it came with nothing. While other people ordered big beef steaks and it came with many sides. So i am confused. I had to take my dinner after eating from here because i was damn hungry.
Had a fantastic experience at The Rich Uncle Tavern. Our server Daniel was top class and the food was just as good - there wasn't one thing that we ordered that disappointed. …
Great job in the brunch! Wonderful friendly service!! Loved the atmosphere and the Kentucky ruffsawn wood floor!!
Very average. Great host. Quickly sat. Service was weak at best. Waiter wearing a ton of cologne. Seemed like we were a bother to him. Very pompous attitude. Not friendly. Slow. Inattentive. Food was very weak. Off balance flavors. The kitchen is more focused on plate presentation rather than the taste of the food. Small portions for the price. Had to flag down waiter to get plates cleared. Staff seemed inexperienced. The lack of attention to detail from the front of the house and kitchen made for a train wreck of an evening.
Great entertainment and beverages.
You absolutely must try the duck wings! Always great service, great food and a unique atmosphere (upstairs).
Really nice place, great service, food is awesome and drinks are amazing. Highly recommended if you are around!
Warm atmosphere, great food, nice of them to let us use one of their dining rooms to host our meetup.
4th time going to the tavern. Food was great. Drinks were great. Bar service was wonderful. Table of 8 on a Saturday night. Apparently the POS system crashed and messed up all the bills. Server was working to get all the bills corrected and was getting frustrated. We got 3 bills all identical and incorrect, when we got our fourth bill the server said “here is your bill - it should be less “. All that was done was an incorrect item removed from our bill. Server then was very rude - insisting we pay the incorrect bill. I asked for that manager. Manager was very friendly and tried to remedy the situation. All I wanted was to pay for what I had ordered. I love this place - it’s usually amazing. I dont want to be given an identical incorrect bill 3 times and then be told to pay the 4th bill because it should be less. How about “ here’s your bill - it’s correct and thank you for coming” Unreal how some service staff get so frustrated with their software and take it out on the customers. You had to notice the third Bill was exactly the same as the first 2. Paid the fourth bill - it was still wrong Brutal
Great place
I’m heartbroken that this place is likely going to be yet another casualty of these lockdowns. I really enjoyed this place.
Great variety of dishes, friendly staff, best caesar salad in town in my opinion. Love this place.
Unfortunately our experience was disappointing especially after reading the great review in the k-w record. The waitress was friendly but rushed. Our meal took way too long to arrive and this venue was over half empty. My hamburger was very dry and overcooked and fries on the soggy side. Three out of four of us dining felt Rick Uncle fell short for an upscale pub.
Great atmosphere. Good food. Great selection of drink.
I visited The Rich Uncle Tavern on a Friday night. They were my first try at Scotch eggs. The scotch eggs were amazing...simply delicious! I ordered the lamb burger with a salad and it was outstanding. I love the casual and less formal atmosphere especially when the food is fantastic. The Rich Uncle Tavern is a hidden little gem for the quality of their food. Jay from Calgary
I was here for a Meetup. I ordered only a beer. They have a great selection of beers, and people who were with me and ordered food, like it.
Came here with a family because we loved the Berlin restaurant. The whole experience was not great at all. The meat platter we ordered looked very dull- the kind of food you can get at the grocery store .... nothing "homemade". My daughter didn't eat her dessert, it was too sour. They still charged us for it!!! Their crab toaster was tiny but expensive. I am giving a two star review for the venue since the place looks good and there is a nice space upstairs you can enjoy on certain days of the week.
Went to The Rich Uncle Tavern for lunch with a few co workers and the atmosphere is really cool and it's a big place with high ceilings. I got the lamb burger and it didn't disappoint. The fries are good and have great seasoning and not just salt. I tried the red circle blonde beer and the Leftfield whip Pina colada beer and both were awesome. I will be going back to try other things on the menu. The service was really fast. As soon as you ordered another drink, it was there in a flash. I haven't seen that before.
Made me the best lemonade I have ever had. Environment of restaurant is like nothing else. Almost perfect.
Good food. Staff is fast fun and efficient. Loved the duck wings. Great cocktails
Service was awesome. The decor and atmosphere was great. Food was on point. Great night out
I visited the Rich Uncle Tavern shortly before the pandemic hit, and it was a great experience to go with work colleagues. Food was enjoyable, and we got a few half-pint glasses as part of a promotion. The memory of the visit lives on as a result! Looking forward to returning in the future.
Good breakfast
The food was very good but on the salty side. Friendly staff and great atmosphere
Came here from out of town after looking at the menu online, the problem was the online menu is not the same and many items are not available. we were planning on having the lobster roll and wild boar rigatoni. we were also informed there …
Good food and meeting place
We had dinner on a Saturday night. Great service. I ordered a salad with chicken and truffle fries. The chicken was way too salty. Salad was nice. The fries were really more like hash browns. My husband ordered the beef mushroom pie and scotch egg. The egg was way too salty and the pie meat was dry and wax mostly filled with a giant bone. Our friends had the duck and seafood pie. The duck was over cooked unfortunately. The pie, well was not seafood, but cod. So more like a cheap fish pie. I don't like giving poor reviews, however we are definitely regular diners, eating most meals out. So I think this was a fair review. Now on the up side prices are awesome. We may give The Rich Uncle another try..... Maybe
Great food overshadowed by an unfortunately long wait. Not sure if we will be returning.
Food was great. It's a bit pricey but has a nice atmosphere.
Inventive food at a reasonable price, atmosphere is 5 star.
I went tonight for the first time since they reopened post covid shut down and I can’t even tell you how great of an experience it was. The staff were all incredible and working so hard to keep things safe while still normal. The food was amazing and clearly made with such thought and care. My favourite place to eat locally. Oh and it also has the best decor and atmosphere just to top it off! This place deserves your business and won’t disappoint.
Came here with my family for a birthday celebration. The food was great and everyone enjoyed their meal. I ordered the mushroom wood-fired toast and the soup of the day since I wasn't too hungry and wanted to leave room for dessert. …
The atmosphere and decor is unique and gorgeous! Will definitely come back.
Had fish n chips..delicious! Great entertainment too. But the best thing about this pub is their staff. Lady on the door is courteous & remembers every detail. Wait staff are always knowledgeable & filling glasses & are genuinely interested in providing you with a good experience. It is pricey but I rec it!
They should have more vegetarian dishes.
Awesome cozy vibe, great drinks and love how they often have live music! Beers and ciders on tap are always changing. A great place to bring friends or for a date.
Great food and atmosphere, too many people waiting on a single table.
Good food!
Maybe it was a bad night, maybe the staff were new, maybe... We had a reservation for 8:30 and showed early to sit at the bar for a bit. When our group of 6 arrived on time, our table wasn’t made up. What came next was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. Service was atrocious. This goes beyond even one server to everyone involved with serving our meal. Slow, distracted, inaccurate, discourteous, inappropriate and more. Food-wise - if you were a fan of The Berlin, this place isn’t for you. We ordered a range of dishes (only some of which got delivered) but we were not wowed by any dish. Appetizers were good and shareable. No desert or coffee offered. Drink-wise, we waited for fully 30 minutes for the first bottle of wine on the red wine list to be delivered. We ordered champagne for a birthday that took another 30 mins to arrive and was warm. Cocktails looked nice, but aside from one bar man who wad attentive and detailed, we watched several make sloppy drinks and shrug at spillages or wrong recipes and serve them anyway. The decor is cool. The location is chic. The idea is clever. The execution feels like first time restauranteurs charging over the top for what a Montana’s would do better at. I hate to write such a candid review. I’m sorry to the staff and the owners, but this was a monumentally awful dining experience that we will not be repeating soon. **UPDATE: I spoke at length to the GM of the restaurant who reached out to hear more details about our concerns. Our suspicions were right: lots of new staff finding their feet. I appreciated the opportunity to offer constructive feedback. Hopefully with responsive leadership that the GM is showing the restaurant can learn from the errors of our visit and make sure this place achieves its potential. I wish them the best.**
The food was pretty good, but the service was pretty slow. Wait staff was friendly, but feel like we should’ve gotten faster service than we did. The staff apologized for the wait, so maybe we caught them on an off day?
Super tasty egg benedict's! Loved the bacon and the dill hollandaise. Will be back for sure!
I was there with company members for the Christmas Party. We had a good time. The food was great! Excellent plate presentation and the stake I ordered was done as ordered. The server did well. There was only one time that I have asked for an extra chair and it seemed like it was a big deal me asking for it. They did end up getting us one. Not a big deal. A friendlier response from the server would've been nice. The location is fantastic! They didn't have live music when we were there, but I do know they have live music once in a while and it's great! The place looks very cozy and welcoming. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to enjoy a good meal.
Should be 3.5 stars but no option. We were a group of 10 on a Friday night. The service was just ok. Our server was pleasant and was trying, but I'm sure she had too many tables. A few times we went drinkless until she remembered us again. The food was good. (pickerel and fries, schnitzel and few root vegetables). Sadly there were a few things on the drink menu that were out of stock... Beer mainly. We had 2 whiskeys (makers mark and crown black), a "1/2 pint" beer, and a shot of Patron. The bill was $105. Not obscene, but there wasn't anything special that made the cost what it was. We went upstairs for the live music after and the guy was quite good, maybe a touch loud for the cosy venue it is. The service was good and quick up there.
Amazing place
Classic old timey atmosphere
The food was fine but it took over 45 minutes for nachos, poutine and wings. After waiting so long nearly anything would have been fine. The previous time we went for a small celebration they also took forever and a day to bring out a bit of ice cream. The slowness is what is killing this place for me, I won't be back. Both visits were after 8 pm so it wasn't the dinner rush either.
Came here ironically with my Rich Aunt. She treated us to a lovely dinner. Great atmosphere, fun and friendly staff, excellent food, will for sure be coming back again soon!
Good Food
Great atmosphere and staff. Liked the drink options and the food was great. I ordered the burger with fries for a simple lunch and was overwhelmed but the amount of salt and seasoning on the fries. Kinda lost interest in the meal after that. Other than that smaller issue the place is great and I'll be giving it another shot in the near future. Just tone down the salt haha
Atmosphere very good, oysters delicious, service excellent, drink selection good, burger and specialty toast was ok, soup could have been hotter. Overall a pleasant experience. Would definitely go back.
Great cocktails and food. Everything has a unique and interesting twist. The space is a little large for the layout, it would be nice if it had a more "cozy" feel. And its a little pricey for what you get, but it is a great place for upscale eats and drinks.
Expect to learn a thing, or two.
Was pleasantly surprised to have SO many vegetarian options on one menu! The food was AMAZING, and I would 100% go back. Two people at the table got the chicken sandwich and didn't love it - their piece of chicken was smaller than the bun and ended up just being a really small portion for the price. But, I didn't have the same experience as I ordered the Truffle Mushroom pasta and took leftovers home. The poutine was also one of, if not THE, best vegetarian poutines I've had.
The vibe is super correct, love the seating area and music selection
Great atmosphere..staff is attentive and friendly... would recommend to my friends.
Great steak salad
Gosh...the worst service I have ever experienced. It wasn't a busy night and it took more than an hour to get 2 martinis and even longer to get the bill. What a waste of time. Even a one star rating is too much.
Good atmosphere and tasty truffle frites, however the rest wasn't so great :( I ordered the filet steak, and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare - which was probably easy for them to do, as evidenced by my steak being PRE-CUT in half by the chef to check it. That's kind of a big no-no when it comes to steak - or is it just me? The steak was also charred, which is why I suspect it was cut into. The mushroom included was also charred. The meal had a "Potato pave", which is sort of like a super thin scalloped potato layered in a deep dish, then they serve you a square piece. Sadly it seemed like they must have forgot the seasoning on that one and hoped the crushed pistachio(maybe?) on top would be enough - at least it looked pretty. Lastly, beside my steak, there was a piece of some kind of stewed beef. The kind that falls apart in your mouth, like it was cooked for a while. I had mistaken it for a piece of steak drenched in the red wine reduction, but after eating it and letting my girlfriend sample it, we confirmed what it was. The menu doesn't mention any other meat with the meal - maybe the chef felt sorry for cutting my steak in half and gave me a little extra? Oh and the parsnips and red-wine reduction were alright. Anyway - if you're coming here to eat - the food kind of takes a WHILE to get to you. The frites came out quick though, so I'd recommend the place if you're hammered and would like a tasty $6 portion of dressed up fries - otherwise, for the price that you're paying, there are far better places in the area.
Food is great! Waiter, not so much.
Pretty decent place with an interesting menu. Went for lunch and will be stopping by for dinner in the future.
Always a chill and relaxing experience i would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Great appetizers, tasty beer.
Excellent friendly staff (both wait & kitchen), food was delicious. Try the duck wings!
Great place, amazing service and I was surprised that there was live music earlier than was posted.
We went for brunch on a Saturday. Amazing new menu! I had the duck hash. Delicious!
Went for brunch, it was all you can eat for 29$ for adults and 14$ for children. Nice ambiance, very quiet, cosy.
The food is pretty average but the service is great and the atmosphere is hard to come by elsewhere.
Wow. Best food ever. Wonderful atmosphere. High recommend.
Amazing food and service! The remodel has made the new place look absolutely incredible!! The prices right now are also absolutely amazing for the portion sizes you get!
No Amber beer choices on tap or in bottle, foods good.
Attended a private function in the upstairs space here. It is a great venue for parties. Lots of bar space on one side and lots of room for food on the other. Staff and service we're great, also.
Farm Fresh Ingredients, Hand-Crafted Cocktails! The carbonara pasta and sauce was made from scratch. They make their own syrups and bitters for their drinks. A truly unique experience.
A friend and I dined here last nite and man, what a treat! The food is delicious, and the cocktails are great too. Go for the duck wings and the beef cheek burger, pair it up with an old fashioned or a 'billionaire' cocktail, you will not be disappointed! Service was great too, and I really liked the atmosphere.
Great food. Shepherds pie was small and without carrots/peas, and the toffee desert was awesome
Very cozy. Great service n food
Been a few times now. Always out of my beer selection however they make good alternate suggestions. Main issue is the portions have been shrinking each time I go. This would be fine if the prices weren't so high. Good service and atmosphere.
Vintage style but totally modern decor. Exquisite menu with a great variety of spirits all prepared very tastefully. Prompt helpful service provide insight into their interesting menu. Perfect volume-level music. Upstairs has 2 large rooms; one is a speak-easy style bar and the other is for modern gatherings. This place is a gem right in the heart of downtown Kitchener
The food and service at the Rich Uncle is top shelf! They also do live music in the "Study" which is always entertaining.
I really hate writing bad reviews of local joints because I truly want them to work out and add to our growing community. However I have to say I was truly disappointed at my experience last week at the tavern. I and a party of 9 came to dine on a Thursday night at 6 pm. The place was not busy so we expected a fairly smooth service. The first hint at the experience to come was we ordered four bottles of red wine before they found one they had in stock. We then ordered our food and waited. And waited. After 45 minutes two friends joined us for dinner. They ordered their food and recieved their food 20 minutes before the rest of the table. When we finally complained the manager threw his employees under the bus by claiming the server didn't press enter on the order and then claiming that he was upstairs at a promo event and he should have been on the floor to keep things running smoothly. I really didn't like the fact that he so easily dumped the responsibility on the server and kitchen instead of just saying "hey no excuses we want to make it right". He did then agree to comp half our food costs and buy the table a round of drinks. But then proceeded to leave to the promo event and not help clear the table (dirty dishes sat at our table for twenty minutes after we finished eating) and not check in again. The young server was trying their best and some nice bartenders helped out eventually but the experience was ruined. The food was decent but after taking almost an hour and 45 to get it it didn't really matter. I really hope they can turn it around. The places looks lovely (although the turn to dance and edm music at 7pm really ruins the Vibe they are going for). Here is hoping we don't lose another spot downtown. We need them.
Amazing Food! It's not cheap but it is worth it! One of the better places to eat downtown.
Great food. Great beer selection.
This is my third time at the restaurant, and I find it good but not great. Atmosphere is wonderful and the staff are courteous - however, our last experience there was quite odd. We had three people waiting on us at different times, asked for drink orders repeatedly, even after placing one; a friend ordered a root beer that was on the menu, and after a lengthy time, we were told they were out (we were told they were searching for it..). We asked about their Italian sodas, as per the menu, and were told only 1 was available, which didn’t interest my friend, so he ordered an earl grey tea... and was told 10 minutes later they were out! (who runs out of tea?). He settled on coffee (and jokingly said to the server, “You do have Coffee?”). I found the knowledge of our server lacking and the timing it took to get anything far too long. Nice menu, with a few items stand out as gems, such as the duck wings. Other items, such as the duck hash are a miss (or at least my order was as the portion was modest and the dish bland). Later, the dessert sorbet choices were placed on the table, with pool of melted sorbet around them. We wondered how long they had been sitting waiting. Perhaps this was an off day, or our main server (1 out of the 3) was new, but for my two friends who were new to the restaurant - they were not impressed at all, which was unfortunate.
The food is OK, but it's almost a parody of hipster's running a restaurant and making unnecessarily complex and bizarre dishes. This hour has 22 minutes do a great parody of this phenomenon (Google "this hour has 22 minutes hipster chef"). Yes, cool to have beef cheek on my hamburger, but I can't really taste it and it turns out to be just an expensive hamburger with non-tasteable hipster toppings. For the price, I'd rather a really nice medium rare burger made from premium beef. Meh.
went for beer and listen to music. nice place. out of most beers I asked for but overall great place
This place was a disappointment. The beer selection was good and the food was good enough, but disappointing for the price. The worst part, however, was the service speed. While not rude, the waitstaff were unfriendly and inattentive, and it was quite hard to get their attention. Moreover, the kitchen staff were slow despite the restaurant being nearly empty when we arrived. Although we only waited twenty minutes to get our appetizer, it took more than an hour after that for our mains to arrive - at which point most of them were already cold, so the waitstaff were as much to blame there as the kitchen. No apology was given for the wait. I hope for their sake this was just an off night. If not this place needs to shape up or make some personnel changes. Overall a waste of our time and money.
The best way I can describe this place is "meh." While some of the food is pretty good, a lot of it just tastes mediocre, and like they are trying too hard. The prices are pretty up there for what is basically pub food with "fancier" sounding ingredients. I did really enjoy the lobster and crab cake appetizers and the soiled reputation salad, but the lobster roll tasted like it had come from a can, and $8.50 for a Wellington is way too much. They were also out of the first 2 beers I requested. That being said, our waitress was friendly and professional (although a bit slow as it seemed like she was the only person working with several large tables to serve) and the decor was quite nice. I wouldn't go again unless someone else was treating though. UPDATE: Emailed Kyle as requested 5 days ago. Have yet to hear back, so I guess he doesn't care that much, after all.
4 of us met up for dinner tonight, what a lovely atmosphere! Nice lighting when the sun set pleasant music in the background. Had to try Scotch eggs, never see them on a menu. Perfect starter. Wine and beers were great thanks to the recommendations and knowledge from our amazing server (Candace). She is a great server as she's efficient, smart and has the hospitality gene. Pleasant. Mains were awesome we left happy and so full. I wish I could add the photos I took but it's not working!
Impeccable service, memorable food, and the AYCE brunch on Saturdays and Sundays is an unbeatable value.
Very nice and well decorated place. Good service and great food. We went there for lunch with friends. We tried 3 different menu items. Everyone was satisfied with choices. I ordered pasta with mushrooms. It was served in hot iron skillet. It was very tasty. Good place to visit in Kitchener downtown.
Had bad service at the start. Different waitress afterwards and it was good. Maybe if the first waitress was having a bad day go home. I had given it 3 stars before. Now I wish I could give it 0. Order a steak and not told the Yorkshire pudding isn't coming with it, cause they ran out. Then no ketchup for the fries, again they ran out. I gave this place another chance and wow just more failure. It's sad this place has gone down hill. Hopefully a management change might help bring it back up to a better standard. I will not come back here and spend anymore money. There's other restaurants with better service. This place has really let me down.
Cant wait to go again!
Great service!
We did the 7 course tasting menu... it was fantastic!!!
One of the best local food spots in town. Always super friendly with fair prices for the quality and creativity on offer. Great spot for a night out for dinner or a few pints and snacks with friends.
We were there for a Friday night Christmas office party. Our upstairs room was decorated with a comfy and kitschy vibe. The food was delicious, hot and flavourful. The most outstanding part of the evening was the service. We have been so disappointed with the service at one of the city’s biggest and most well known restaurant groups. The service at The Rich Uncle was excellent. I have high standards for service and have been hugely annoyed by expensive restaurants that don’t do the basics. For high prices we are expected to use the same cutlery, beg for refills of water and wine and jump up and down to get a waiter’s attention. Here we were all were served at the same time with a system that allowed for no mistakes. We had tons of fresh warm bread, our cutlery was changed at the correct time, our glasses quietly refilled constantly and our waiter was knowledgeable about the food and many wines. He was professional and very friendly. Good combination! A very enjoyable evening!!
What a great place for Saturday lunch and a few pints. We sat at the bar for a very long time and enjoyed the cozy, warm ambience, especially now at Christmas time. Very good selection of beer. We will be sure to come back for dinner one day.
I've been here twice now in the last 2 months and only have positive things to say. It's such a unique atmosphere in downtown Kitchener, I think they did a great job in retrofitting the space. The service is always amazing and the food combinations and taste is FANTASTIC. They have beers from local-ish breweries (KW and GTA/south western Ontario). Prices are reasonable for a higher quality experience in the downtown core. I'm so happy this restaurant is here! Will definitely be coming back again soon.
Food was good, decor nice, service was so-so
Just tried The Rich Uncle for the first time. It won't be our last. The staff were so friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. The flavours actually blew me away. I highly recommend The Rich Uncle. Such a great evening out.
The first time I came here it was a week after open and service was really rusty. Since then, everything has improved greatly. In recent times the food has been spot on, service very prompt and timely, and the drinks have been great. The attention to improvement has been duly noted! Duck wings are amazing and specials are great. Great place downtown Kitchener!
I took my son and his gf here for dinner. I have food allergies and the waitress and the kitchen were excellent at communicating with each other. The food was delicious ????. We had nachos, burgers and fries. The atmosphere was relaxing and fun. I'm sorry I didn't stay for the entertainment. I will be returning soon with my husband.
Great brunch, above average lunch/supper.
Was very good dining experience. Pub food but nicely done. I love the atmosphere. Exposed reclaimed bricks, light jazz music, and well dressed servers. Polite and attentive. Will return for sure.
New menu required (and on it's way supposedly) and please make it easier to understand by listing key ingredients in your entrees (pork sausage in a fish dish - really?). Nice ambiance. Soup and shrimp toast were awesome. A work in progress but they will get there.
Nice lunch spot. I'm sure it is good at dinner too.
Food was excellent, parking was bothersome, atmosphere was relaxed, staff was wonderful and I wish them great success.
Service was slow but great food and atmosphere. I had the duck wings which were great. Ordered creme brulee for dessert which took 15-20mins to arrive.
The place was beautiful and the atmosphere was great. I would have been happy to just hang out all night except that the food was very disappointing. My wife ordered the pasta carbonara which was just weird. They used angel hair pasta so when it showed up it was a clump of over cooked pasta. Also it was a strange brown colour, over salted, and didn’t taste like any carbonara I have ever had. She ate less then half of it. My burger was a little dry but otherwise OK. The seasoned French fries were very limp and so salty and over seasoned with rosemary that we couldn’t eat those either. The service was excellent so we just paid the bill and left without complaining. Not sure whether or not we will give them another chance.
Amazing food, amazing drinks. Great for private functions or casual drinks. Staff is incredible and knowledgeable. By far my favourite atmosphere in KW
We had a very enjoyable dinner here! The staff were competent. The food was delicious, the portions were perfect. Great drink selection- interesting cocktails and an expansive local draft beer selection. My favourite part was the venue - really cool building and decorative pieces. This place is worth trying and going back to again! My only regret is that I left behind the cool coasters I wanted to bring home...
Went to order a hamburgers because we heard great things, the waitress says they dont have them. Sold out. You would think that if they were so great and such a huge fav, that you would make sure you have enough stock. We ordered salad, We then waited 45 min and still no food.
Great menu plus live music
The decor is interesting however, the food and the service require attention. Our food was very salty and I kept asking for water (which was from the tap and tasted of chlorine). To end the night we ordered coffee (procured from a local coffee shop) and both were served lukewarm and very watery. The staff seemed confused with our reservation and took 3 people to figure it out.
Mediocre overpriced food. Smallest French onion soup I've gotten in a restaurant with hardly any cheese on it. Lobster roll was nothing special woth a fishy taste. Curry fries were a small serving for the price and I couldn't tell the difference between those and the regular fries. For what they charge I expect better food or bigger portions.
Very warm and welcoming. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple of beverages with the duck Scotch eggs. Was delicious. Staff were very friendly and welcoming
Food was good. Sevice was fast and knowledgable
Very nice atmosphere. Great food and friendly staff.
Really friendly staff and great ambiance
Grab a seat and get ready because it's story time! This was the first time I went to The Rich Uncle Tavern and let me say that the minute I walked in (and my friend hadn't shown up) I was greeted with smiles and interest in making sure I felt comfortable, and let me say I am a person that gets very self-conscious about having to wait and being alone in a restaurant. My waiter was amazing! He was funny and witty and made the atmosphere feel very light (that and they were all dressed very dapper). The food was (and I am foodie here) AMAZING! This is seriously what real restaurants are made of for sure. I would highly recommend and really wish I could give it more stars *cries*.
