This Restaurant is classified in the category of Ethiopian restaurant.
Hands down the best Ethiopian restaurant in Waterloo Region! Great cultural decor, music, and atmosphere, and of course, super delicious food! Mostly savoury rather than spicy. Any of the tibs dishes are to die for! Highly recommended!
One of my best Ethiopian restaurants in Ontario. The food is so yummy and carefully cooked. I really recommend to give it a try
One of my favourite restaurant on kitchener. flavourful dishes for a fait price. If you like to discover new tastes, go for it!
Good
Excellent, Good food, trying the cuisine for first time, loved it..the ambience looked good too..
Great Ethiopian food, spices, Ingera and more.
Best vegetaterian options for Ethiopian food I've ever had. I come from out of region for it.
Very fresh tasting food, good service ans clean bathrooms. Everything I was hoping for!
Food was very greasy and poorly packed. They were also missing one of our dishes in the delivery. Will not be ordering from here again.
Great food.
Such a wonderful cuisine, environment, service and experience. Absolutely love the sharing options. Will be coming again soon!
Delicious! Will be back.
Delicious food clean hygiene but little delay going on service
I love their food!
AMAZING food, friendly service, clean. Will try to eat here regularly. Looking forward to trying the takeout.
Great food. The combination platter is a great choice if you've never had Ethiopian food before. Will definitely be back.
What a fantastic eating experience!! A must try place go!! You won’t be sorry!
Tasty authentic Ethiopian food. A bit of a wait for service and food but it's well worth it! Great coffee!
Amazing food.
Fantastic!
Great place for Ethiopian food! The shiro wot and vegetarian platter were both really good. Was more than enough food for two of us! We asked for a takeout box for some leftovers and got extra injera too! I'll be back again for sure.
I love the atmosphere of this place, theirs always a good mix of customers, and the service is good, sometimes theirs a bit of a language barrier, but we have always been able to figure it out. Honestly this is my favorite place to eat in kw. Really great food, you can taste the love they put in to their dishes. If you're looking for something new to you and you havent tried the delicious delights of Ethiopian cuisine, then I strongly recommend you try this place. It is a wonderful experience. Now, go get it!
Can’t knock the food. It’s as good a plate of Ethiopian food as I’ve ever had. Inexpensive, well prepared, vegetarian and meat options, not too bizarre for the newcomer but still adventurous for people looking for something different, and fun to eat. The service was a pretty slow during my stop was my only issue. No big deal though.
Very delicious. The wait can be long as they make everything to order, but the food is definitely worth it. So so tasty!
Excellent experience!!! Food was amazing. Coffee was worth the $10. Price are perfect. Will definitely come back.
This was the first restaurant my husband and I went to when we first moved to Kitchener. It was not my first go at Ethiopian food, but I was sure glad to find a restaurant close to us. For my husband and I, we like to order the veggie platter with a bowl of one of their beef selections. Dining in is quite nice, but for those in a hurry.. they also have a take out door next to their restaurant. It's a small, quaint place that has a true mom and pop feel to it. Service is not the fastest as it is run by two people (sometimes 3), and they have to go back and forth between the sit down area and take out area. If you have time to sit down and grab a bite, this is definitely a good place to go. Also, if you've never had Ethiopian food before, be sure to wash your hands before you dig in because your hands are your utensils!
Wow surprised, why this place is not full??? Amazing service, patiently explains every question. Food was very good. Recommend this to anyone who wants Ethiopian food.
Delicious food with a great authentic feel
What a great restaurant. The coffee made me feel relaxed and not jittery which is shocking. Superb food. Eat with your hands!
Authentic and interesting experience. Casual environment with very friendly service. The coffee service is quite unique. They roast the coffee on premise, bring out the roasted beans for you to smell and then make an authentic pot of Ethiopian coffee and pour it into small cups for you to enjoy. Like an espresso, very smooth and concentrated. Worth checking out for a unique experience.
Very tasty food ❤❤
Very good
Wonderful taste, flavour and aromatic food. You eat with your fingers and use injera bread to scoop up food. Ask for cutlery if you need to. Ethiopian coffee called Kafir was a neat experience. The owner roasted the coffee beans fresh for us and then served coffee on a platter with a clay pot and incence. Wonderful taste. Ask for milk and sugar. Apparently a special butter is added to your coffee for an authentic Ethiopian drinking experience. Will definitely return.
Decided to try something we've never had before and picked Ethopian food. The food was delicious we specifically loved the Injera, amazing texture and taste! We ordered beef lamb and a variety of bean dishes. The staff was so nice and really taught us about the culture and food. We'll definitely be back!
A good variety of delicious dishes. Friendly service. Steady flow of customers coming in.
I just tried takeout from this place today, and it's my first experience with Ethiopian cuisine. I got the vegetarian combo platter. It came with three different lentil dishes (Red, Green, Yellow all in different spices) as well as some Spinach and veggies. It also came a very generous portion of Tejera. I really enjoyed eating this food, the bread has a nice sour flavour which reminds me of Sourdough but its not obviously the same taste. I love the spongy texture. The lentils themselves were very tasty. It also did not seem overly salty which is nice and I am not super thirsty which is nice. I took a star off as the price was a bit high for the amount of food you get. The actual lentil portions were small. I will however be going back as I enjoyed the food and am curious what some of the other dishes would taste like.
Authentic Ethiopian food.
Great service! Delish meal. Would highly recommend.
Delicious food with quick service. Staff is very welcoming.
Good ambience, nice flair of music and the lentils and chicken were cooked good. Cons- Lamb was not cooked up to the mark was rubbery. Beans omg oh my beans they were as if just tossed for a second in the pan and removed it i could chew it. Service was om point no issues with that! Social distancing (hmmmm! Need check on that front again)
This is some of the best Ethiopian food we've had outside of Ethiopia. The shiro wat and special kitfo are superb with excellent injera! Thank you for this wonderful taste of one of our favourite cuisines. If you haven't yet tried Ethiopian food, this would be a great place to start.
Great ???? as always. Food and service was super tasty and the portions were perfect. We left nothing on our platter. Vegie platter for two and kitfo.
Was excited to try this based on the good reviews. Ordered the Muya Ultimate for take out and was quite disappointed. Small portions and watery, oily food. In addition few of the dishes were cool while others were hot and we picked up right when we were asked to arrive. Not that familiar with Ethiopian food, but I've liked it the few times I've had it before. Just wasn't a fan of Muya - probably won't be back.
We come here when we need our Ethiopian food fix, and they never disappoint. Good service, short wait times, delicious food.
Great food! Call the day before and they can make gluten free injera for you.
Very good
Most tasty African food and coffee that I ever had!
Amazing food everytime, great vegan/vegetarian options! Amazing service!
I tried Ethiopian food here for the first time last month and have been meaning to post a review. The hostess/server is an absolute sweetheart! She was happy to tell us about the food and since some of it is traditionally eaten by hand, she'll even offer to sit down with you and show you how it's done. Very friendly atmosphere and the restaurant itself is homey and very clean. The food was wonderful. My friends and I shared a variety-type dish, which was great because we all got to try a bit of everything. It's definitely different from what I'm used to, but every enjoyable.
Absolutely incredible! Some of the yummiest food I’ve had in my life! Kind staff, beautiful restaurant, and amazing food!
A very nice Ethiopian restaurant. Waitress is the only person taking our orders and everyone else's all night long. She was very kind and made sure we all received the food that we had asked for. Food was tasty and served with an injera pita -a crepe/pancake style breaded material that soaked all liquids. Athe end we had their famous Ethiopian coffee served Ethiopian style
A must try! Ordered their veggie combos with the injera bread - wonderfully fresh and spiced! Highly recommend!
Amazing tasting food, service was great as well. Highly recommend
This is a great place to get your hands dirty and eat some delicious cultural food. The waitress is friendly, and there is a good amount of options to choose from.
Best tastiest food ever!! I love that they have vegan options. We went one a weekend for like a whole month cause its just that good! Recommended
Excellent Ethiopian food - great prices. Very friendly service.
This is the only Ethiopian food experience I have had. So there is no reference of comparison. I absolutely enjoyed the experience though and will definitely be going back. It looks like they have recently renovated the place and it looks quite ethnic. The injera bread is very interesting. You are expected to eat with your hands and the group is expected to share the same plate. ( The plate is quite large though and each one can work with a corner of the plate). They have quite a decent vegetarian menu which was very exciting for us. The price and the quantity is quite good. There is only one server. The place gets quite busy and she tries her best to attend to all. But they could really use more help.
Great small restaurant with tasty food. Love their vegetarian options. Generous portions. Not a fan of the bread but don't get me wrong it's just not to my taste. Always get rice with my dishes.
The food is good, the service is less so. Our last 3 orders had something left out of them. One was pickup and I was able to correct it, the other two were through Skip, and you can compare the receipt in Skip to the paper one they write by hand and stick on the bag and they don't match. I fully can't trust them to get an order right anymore.
An excellent Ethiopian restaurant. The food is consistently delicious. Wide variety of vegetarian dishes. For meat lovers, their kitfo (rare beef) is fantastic. A hidden gem.
The owner was surprised to see "Canadian" in her restaurant for some reason. The food is affordable, yummy and definitely worth the try.
Awesome authentic cuisine
Amazing food, amazing service. Ethiopian coffee was a great way to end the meal.
The meat was spicy, but otherwise flavorless. Sourdough bread was fine, but not great. Food + drink + tip came to ~$20. Just not worth it.
Great food!!! The waitress was super nice and suggested a dish for me when I couldn't decide. They give you a plenty of the injera bread. We had one beef dish and one chicken dish. They were both delicious! We will definitely be back soon.
Delicious food - the beef wot was awesome!
I've been here to eat twice, and it was wonderful both times! Delicious, authentic Ethiopian food at a good price, and the hostess is very friendly and courteous.
Delicious food and quick service at a beyond reasonable price. We had the vegetarian combo platter and one meat dish between two people and were struggling to finish it all. The owner showed us how to eat and let us sample another dish from the menu. Great place to go if you want good food without breaking the bank.
I visited in a number of traditional Eritrean and Ethiopian restaurants in Kitchener and Toronto, this place is my favourite by far. The owner and the staffs are very friendly and accommodating, while their food is well prepared and delisious with fairly priced. Ajusent to the restaurant, there is two shops owned by the same owner that sale traditional bread/ engera as well as traditional grains like taff, sorghum and barley as well as spaces like red pepper. The restaurant is always close during every Tuesday.
One word: exceptional!! Some of the best Ethiopian food I've ever had. This place is authentic, rights from the chefs to the owner and servers. The staff is exceptionally courteous and sweet which makes it all a joy. If you've never tried Ethiopian food before be sure to make this your first experience because they have the rare custom of asking you whether it's your first time and then patiently hiding you through the menu. As for the food itself? Impeccable. Period. Amazing array of vegetarian as well as vegetarian food!
The service was super fast. The staff so fast soo friendly and the food was topnotch!!! Definitely well prepared food made with care you could taste it. If you are ever in the kitchener area this is a must try.
Delicious. Portions are plentiful, sides are stupendous, veggie options are delightful! I can't walk by the plaza without smelling the food and immediately thinking of it for my next meal. An absolute gem in Kitchener! 5 stars.
One of the best restaurants in town
Delicious. Good prices. Great experience.
Everything was great. Having never been before the waitress was very helpful in explaining how to enjoy the food and made our meal an experience.
(Translated) Very tasty menu. (Original) Meniu foarte gustos .
A variety of menu options. Best vegan/vegetarian options. Service is amazing. Great authentic vibe. Hidden gem. Definitely recommend.
Incredible food and get the coffee.
Great service! Food was excellent! About as good as you can get in North America! Will definitely be coming back here again.
Great vegan food! This is one of my go-to places for Skip orders and the restaurant is very relaxed. Try the traditional Ethiopian coffee - it's strong and sweet, like a very smooth and smoky espresso.
Absolutely amazing food and a warm atmosphere. Spectacular decor and comfortable seating. Some of the friendliest staff I've ever encountered.
Excellent food
Food was great, better tasting compared to east African cafe in Kitchener however the quantity is less and the meat chunks are slightly bigger
This was the best restaurant i have ever been to. great service great food and great prices
Food was excellent! Service was very friendly and you could tell they genuinely cared about their customers. She brought out fresh toasted coffee beans to show us and my boyfriend loved the resulting coffee.
My boyfriend and I love coming here, the workers are so kind and accommodating and the food is delicious. Very good value as well!
Good Ethiopian restaurant. Good food and atmosphere
Possibly the best Ethiopian in town! I've been to a few and this was delicious, lovely atmosphere and very speedy and friendly service. Tried the veggie combo where you can pick 5 out of their 9 different vegetarian options and on top of that we tried one of the meat dishes. They each had their own unique flavours and loved them all. Bon appetit!!!
Probably the best Ethiopian food in town. I prefer it to the East African Cafe in downtown Kitchener.
It was a waw experience Delicious dishes fast and polite services cheaper price. I will come back again and again.
This is one of my favourite restaurants! I love the bold flavours! If you dine in, you may get the experience of smelling freshly roasted coffee beans, which is just lovely! This restaurant's food also travels well if you order through Skip the Dishes! The only caution is twice now I have ordered a beef dish that comes bone-in, which is fine, except that when I received it, there was no meat on the bones, and no vegetables (like I got the bottom of the pot). Unfortunately, this is when I ordered online, so while I did phone the restaurant, there wasn't much to do about it... Other than that, I can easily recommend this restaurant if you are looking for something different that will deliver great a flavour and experience! It is my go-to for evenings I just don't want to cook!
This place has high reviews for a reason, the food is f'n delicious. If you like this type of food, and even if you don't, run, don't walk to eat here!
Loved my first experience in this ethnicity c food waitstaff patient and explained everything food delicious
Top service and yummy food.
Wonderful food. Spicy and flavourful! We will definitely be back.
I tried Ethiopian food for the first time and it is so good. Every bite is rich in flavour and the spices used tasted very good together. It seems like there is only one person waiting tables but we got our food fast, hot, and served properly. Definitely a new craving for food and a Hidden Gem in a busy Street. Thank you for your service
Delicious, with a capital D. Quaint little spot with friendly service and fantastic food!
Very fresh and tasty food!
Love this restaurant! I love getting the veggie combo and getting to choose from all of the options they have. Make sure to get extra injera when you go!
The people were so friendly! Food was pretty good too.
Healthy eats at Muya Cafe in Kitchener ???????? Highly recommend if your in the area!! Really cool experience eating with your hands and they have lots of great options for vegans and meat eaters alike ???? .
One of my go-to places. The menu selection is varied and I really like the combo options were you can mix and match different dishes. The staff is also very friendly; One time, we finished eating and had a fair amount of injera left over. The waitress offered to pack it up for us to take home and added small serving of tikel gomen for us to eat it with. I also appreciate that amount of vegetarian dishes available. And most importantly, the food is delicious.
The food here is absolutely fantastic.. the best Ethiopian food in the city, hands down.
Good food especially the vegan selection. No lunch specials though
Fabulous food.Good ambience and excellent prompt service.Keep it up.
Amazing food definitely a go to for healthy awesome food at great prices!
Great service, interesting food, amazing coffee.
really great vegetarian options!
Absolutely amazing! There were so many vegetarian options and a single dish can last 3+ meals! Great value and fantastic taste. I'll definitely order it again! Only con: makes you hella gassy. But honestly it's worth it.
Great friendly homely service
Very nice place from the service to the food. It feels like you're back home.
Delicious, inexpensive food. Ample parking. First time there we ate inside. Second time we worried about coronavirus, so we went to the nearby Victoria Park (5min drive) and ate there. There is a 24 space parking lot off Park St/Jubilee Dr and multiple benches on that side of the park. Also public toilets.
Best food and great service!
So many vegan options and the injera is the best I have ever had.
Nice Ethiopian dishs.
Amazing food!!
The best Ethiopian in the area! We drive in from Hamilton several times a month to enjoy one of the most flavourful meals around.
Full of Delicious dishes
This was VERY delicious. Especially for vegan food. It's far better than anything I've eaten out in the past 7 years. The injera pitas are so amazing, and soak up every bit of the flavour. The flavour is on par with our cooking at home, which no other restaurant can compare with! So I'm overall very pleased with our meal, and look forward to visiting this place again.
Best Ethiopian food in KW
Good food and good service
Great food, fair prices, very friendly and homey service, feels like a nice little family run restaurant. The ambience is really well done and it's a really unique experience, I highly recommend it!
Just had a great lunch here. Vegetarian platter was delicious and would have been enough for 2 by itself.
Food was amazing and the staff was so kind and helpful. Highly recommended for an authentic experience.
Excellent food. Super tasty, very interesting. Don't forget to try the coffee. Staff is very kind.
Extremely long wait and mediocre food. Never coming back again.
Great Ethiopian cuisine friendly staff!
One of the best spots in the city! Excellent Ethiopian food. Amazing staff- they even treated the entire restaurant to Ethiopian coffee on mother’s day! Always a hit. One of my favourite dining experiences.
Really great experiences! Super accessible for people new to Ethiopian cuisine. Love the coffee ceremony
One of my favourite places to eat in Waterloo region. The food is fresh. The vegetarian and vegan options are great. Its absolutely delicious!
Great customer service
This is a nice restaurant, family business, very organized, clean and peaceful environment. Their food are good, tasty and carries the flavor of their country name. If you want to try some Ethiopian hot n spicy cuisine, you can try here.
hands down one of the best restaurants in kw.
Delicious flavours and friendly service. Spicy lamb was great.
Delicious food!
Good food and Healthy
Small portions that aren't very flavorful. They also charged me for something they don't carry and wouldn't refund.
Incredible food. Relaxed place. Good service.
Absolutely love this restaurant. Excellent food, excellent service, and clean bathrooms. The lady working there is extremely frieny and always brings you fresh food.
Really great meal options and super flavourful. Great taste and nice atmosphere
good food
Fantastic food. I love it.
I do not bother to write a review unless I am really impressed by a business, which I am by Muya!
???????????? very good habesha restaurant !!!
A 5 star isn't something I give easily. Our hostess was warm and attentive. Thanks to CBC radio I found this excellent place where the food is soulful and the coffee service give you reason to stay longer. Thank you.
I always enjoy Ethiopian food at Muya Restaurant especially kitfo to die for!!
Best injera ever
Amazing place and delicious food
I went here with some friends and really enjoyed myself. You eat everything with your hands and use this weird pita bread to pick it up. The food was amazing. I didn't eat one thing that I didn't like. I highly recommend trying this returaunt for a new and unique dining experience that is sure to please. I will say that it's not for the faint of heart if you're afraid of food because the menu is not super friendly and you kind of just have to wing it and order randomly. You will certainly enjoy whatever you order though!
Truly ethiopian food! Great disvover in KW, price is more than fair and dishes are so different and yummy!
Delicious food and friendly service! You can't beat the price!
I have been to this restaurant over 10 times. Whether with friends or family, I have always found the service both efficient and attentive. This Ethiopian restaurant pairs traditional, fresh dishes with injera so mouth-watering that I would be shocked if it wasn't prepared daily. Watch out for the doro wot, it can be quite spicy and might get you sweating, while the others are more of a flavorful spice. As is Ethiopian custom, you are to eat with your hands by using the injera to pick up the other foods so avoid a white shirt if it's your first go at it! Highly recommended!
Well seasoned and good food!
This place ranks towards the top of my visited Ethiopian restaurants in Canada. Typical Ethiopian fare. Some of the food is spicy and some are not. Food is usually served on a big injera bread that is shared by all on the table. The service at this place could be a bit faster.
I went on a Saturday night with a few friends and we had an absolutely lovely time. There is a very good selection of dishes, the food was exceptional and the service was super timely and friendly!
Love Muya. Definitely the go to place in KW for Ethiopian. Food is delicious and the chef/server is a really nice and friendly woman. Wait times are a little long but she runs the place on her own so you can cut her some slack for this delicious food. Definitely recommend the bbq dish. The meat is amazing.
You get so much food for barely any money. Go with some friends and share a platter, you won't regret it.
Incredible food ! Wonderful staff. Always greeted with a smile. Love this place.
Great experience! First time at Muya. Food and service was exceptional. Cozy environment with nice artwork / decor.
Delicious food, reasonably priced, and great for sharing.
Fine Ethiopian cuisine, and they did a great job of packaging it for takeout.
Sooooo delicious
I have never seen a hair inside food until I order from this restaurant today the injera has tuft of hair inside they need to consider Cleanliness
We’ve eaten here and called in to pick up food numerous times and it’s always been good. We recently tried using Skip the Dishes with them. Terrible experience. Half our order was missing. The half we did receive was over cooked, and bland. We called and were told they didn’t send it because they didn’t have our number. “Can you come pick it up?” was the response. They finally agreed to deliver it, upon receiving it the quality equaled half a order, not the two as we should have gotten. We will not be ordering via skip the dishes again. If you get take out, be sure to check your order properly.
The food is super flavourful. You get a cool experience eating with your hands. It takes a while for food to come.
Stopped for take-out last night on my way home from work and as usual an excellent meal! Muya truly never disappoints! Lots of vegetarian options. Delicious, fragrant perfectly spiced dishes.
Fantastic food and friendly service
Some of the best food in town (especially the vegetarian dishes). Definitely a place to visit!
Delicious! Lots of bread! Reasonable pricing! Great kind service! Can't wait to go back! This isn't a fake review -- this place was honestly amazing. Try it!
The food is excellent and the waitress has a warm welcome
Great calming atmosphere and very kind service. Food was amazing! I am vegan and was impressed by all the options. Definitely coming back :)
I love this place, excellent food, good service, and very affordable prices
Unfriend customer service bad bad????????
Excellent food, reasonable prices. Very friendly.
Very helpful staff and good food. Takeout meals are also very tasty.
The food is absolutely delicious! A good variety of Ethiopian food, all served with the typical injera bread/crepe instead of utensils. After dinner, the traditional coffee served was freshly roasted, strong and extremely flavourful; they even brought the roasting coffee beans to the table to smell mid-roast. Perfect serving sizes, appropriate prices, clean and uncluttered dining area, and personable service are all reasons we will be frequent guests to the Muya restaurant! Very impressed!!!
First time diner at Muya and the atmosphere was fun and the food was incredible. I shared the Adventure plate and it was an incredible variety of foods and bursting with flavour... with lots of great food to take home! Highly recommend.
Yesterday we were around the restaurant and thought to give it a try. The lady server was very helpful and kind. She helped us to select and how to eat in a Ethiopian traditional style. She let us try their tasty coffee. We had a combo dish one meat with three veggies. It was delicious. We liked their spices and their traditional bread( Injera). Would love to try this restaurant again.
Really good, affordable and tasty Ethiopian food. The owner gave us extra injera and was very helpful with choosing dishes, and gave extra of one that I said had eaten before. Muya is another hidden gem in the Highland area of Kitchener.
I love this place. The vegetarian platter is delicious every time. Sometimes it takes a while for the food to arrive but it’s always worth the wait.
Amazing! This is an absolute must-try in the K-W area. The food was so traditional and well-cooked, so many unique flavours, and the service and manners of the employees was impeccable. You truly feel welcomed and comfortable being here and the food was great! Will go again.
The food was incredible and I can only describe the atmosphere as joyous. Going back asap. It's busy though! Be prepared for a little wait. It's worth it.
Very yummy food. We got the share platter (says for 2-3 people) and it was delicious. It easily fed 4 big appetites. Will go back again.
Delicious food at low price
Always really good. One of my favourite Ethiopian places ever (rivals Nazareth in Toronto). They have really tasty stews (and vegan options), and are generous with injera. Super lovely people :)
Delicious Food and a wonderful laid back atmosphere. Very friendly people here. And lots of images from Ethiopia. Drop in and enjoy!
We had the menu item called Adventure; chicken, beef, and lamb with several vegetable sides. Flavours had some depth and did not feel like they were Canadianized. The chicken was exceptionally well done, with great texture and moisture, and a good flavour.
Service was a bit slow, but it really fits the vibe of the restaurant. Is it authentic? I can't tell, but it was delicious and it sure felt authentic. The only downside is the size. It's popular but small, so be OK with a short wait or carry out.
The foods always great and there are lots of vegan options! The staff are nice too.
Incredible food! Such unique flavours, lots of vegetarian and vegan options, but the meat dishes are excellent too! We do not live in Kitchener but we happily drive 30 minutes to enjoy this amazing food! Portion sizes are good, great value. Must try!!
I've recently have become a fan of Injera, so when I saw that there was a new place that serves it near by I had to go and try it. The place was small, but nice a quaint. It had some Ethiopian art hanging around which was a nice touch. Ordered the veggie combo dish where you order 5 different veggie sides with the injera as well as doro wot. The doro wot was pretty good and not as spicy as I thought it would be (other places make it quite spicy) the veggie sides ranged from good to meh, but on average was pretty good. The server and the cook kept checking on us and asking us how every thing was as well as bringing more injera whenever we started to run low. They even brought us Shiro wot which you would have to order separately for us to try, and it was amazing! overall if you want to try something new and adventurous Muya is the place to go
Very very nice food and service. Food us a lot more spicy than expected
I have tried almost every meat and vege options here. I honestly only order Beef Alicha kilkil (not spicy), spinach and gomen now. All the other veges are either not cooked enough to my liking or lacking flavors. The other meat options are okay but I find them all to be a bit too spicy for me or not cooked long enough.
This is a very clean and organized Ethiopian Restaurant with relatively quick service. The food was delicious and well prepared too!
I paid for two extra injeras and only got two in total, what happened to the injeras that come with the main order?
Very healthy and tasty food.
It was my first time eating Ethiopian food. The server was really friendly and walked me through the menu and how to use the bread to eat my dish. It was excellent! The food was amazing.
Really great restaurant and unique to the area. We told the server it was our first time and they were extremely helpful. Also enjoyed the traditional coffee!
Excellent food and service! It was my first experience in an Ethiopian restaurant. Our server was most helpful and gracious, and the food was superb. A real dining pleasure.
Excellent, authentic food, friendly staff. One of the best Ethiopian dinners I've had, including my travels to Ethiopia!
This place is great. Food is full of flavour and reasonably priced. Last time I was there, a friend of mine thought he was being funny but was actually being rude and we still got excellent friendly service.
The best and Delicious Ethiopian food. Great quality and quantity. tested like home especially grown in Ethiopia and know how to cook Ethiopian food this place is the best.Friendly staff, fast service and efficient.Thier coffee is a masterpiece. Thank you guys.
The best place for spicy food lovers. My favourite food is cha cha wich is spicy BBQ tender meet. The waitress is so nice with a beautiful smile.
1 star for a poor customer service! Need to improve
reasonable prices, delicious, excellent service and polite staff
I love the flavorful mouth watering dishes that are served at Muya. This restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat.
Amazing food (especially for vegan/vegetarians!!! You have to come here (and bring friends). The full-circle vegan sharing platter was amazing, and a friend had the Lamb Tibs which by her word was some of the best Lamb she's ever had. -To my white vegan/vegetarian friends out here, please try this place, support local family-owned joints like this- I haven't had Ethiopian food in months since the last time I was in Toronto, and when a friend recommended this place to me I was more than excited to try it out. Definitely blew my expectations out of the water. Will definately be coming back soon. MAKE SURE TO PARTAKE IN THE COFFEE CEREMONY (my favourite at any Ethiopian restaurant so far). Awesome friendly service and great atmosphere!
Outside was cold, miserable February, bland strip mall, salt and ice... inside was a crazy little African holiday without leaving Kitchener. Fresh roasting, smokey coffee, whisps of incense, spices cooking. And that was just the scent as we walked to our table. Little hints of decor are scattered around, but nothing cluttered. The ceiling lights have coloured folk art panels placed over top, kind of a funky take on stained glass. We ordered the Muya Ultimate Combo (for 2-3 people) which is a selection of vegetarian and meat dishes served atop a plater of injera bread (amazing stuff, almost like a crepe meets a crumpet meets sour-dough). We also ordered a pot of that darn freshly roasted coffee we kept smelling. No word of a lie, the best coffee I have ever had (strong, black, little wee cups that will literally blow you out of the water). I felt refreshed when I left. It was one of the nicest dining experiences I have had in a long time. Would go back tomorrow if I could.
This is only the second time I’ve had Ethiopia food, but regardless of my lack of expertise, the food was excellent. The service was helpful and friendly. They graciously offered advice. The decor is basic, yet comfortable. I look forward to my next visit. Wonderfully delicious food and friendly service! Great flavours! It was our first time eating Ethiopian food. Our hostess recommended a sample platter and if was very tasty. There were many vegetarian and vegan options. Lots of meat too! We loved it!
Best in town
Great palace to dine with friends and family.
Quality authentic Ethiopian food and also great service.
Had my first Ethiopian meal and it was so damn good!! Great service
I've never eaten in but every time I eat from here its like a warm hug on the inside. Literally food to nourish the soul.
Amazing food!!! So much flavour, so fresh.
Good tasty food for low price
Best Ethiopian food in the area
Excellent food and fabulous service!
Food was amazing, so was the waitress and the decor was simple but beautiful
Really good place. Haven't had Ethiopean in many years and wanted to have it again. Was at St. Jabobs and made the 15 minute drive to this lovely gem of a place. The place was clean, our waitress was nice and the food was amazing. Next time I will have to bring some more people to enjoy this place with.
Great food and great value. Thank you! The app didn't make tipping an obvious part of the ordering process, and I forgot when I picked up. I owe you guys!
Amazing first experience. Veg plate was outstanding. Beef plate was less impressive but still amazing. Very affordable and big portions.
Bring a group and get the share platter. So good. Went with two friends, got 1 platter and still took home left overs. Oh and do the coffee ceremony!
16 of us went for lunch and we all agreed that it was the best Ethiopian food we had had. A good mixture of meats and veggies, spicy and not too spicy but great flavours.
I'm not an expert in Ethiopian cuisine but I have had it a couple of times before. It's a unique style of food with a lot of curry-like dishes that use different spices than one would get in an Indian curry. The food is eaten with a flat sourdough bread that I think is very tasty. I thought the quality of the food at Muya was very good and the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff friendly. The "sampler" options on the menu are an outstanding value.
Superb Ethiopian restaurant. Friendly wait staff, reasonable pricing, attentive service, diverse menu, what more could you ask for in a restaurant? Muya is truly one of my favourite places to eat in the city!
They were very helpful in choosing dishes, as it was our first time with Ethiopian food. It was all good. Thanks.
The food was amazing. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great, once we found it. Went into the butcher next door by mistake. The service was excellent and I loved the way the food was presented.
Great food!
"This place is good, but not as good as Muya" is a phrase I find myself saying everytime I try a new ethiopian restaurant. With so much flavor and variety, the food here is an absolute showstopper.
So good, and great value. And the renovations look great!
Can't speak for authenticity but the food was great, atmosphere is really chill. Definitely enjoyed the experience. Pictured below is the meat combo one.
Cleanest Ehtiopian restaurant in the city and it's not even fair. Authentic Ethiopian food cooked with Tender love and care. I been to East Arican Café and even A.M Africa but Muya's is by far the best. The food itself explains the quality and attention to taste and texture. Service is consistently fast and efficient (I ate there atleast 5 times now). Highly reccomend it!
Amazing food! Muya restaurant is very testy when you get it delivered but is absolutely mouth watering when you dine-in. You can't go wrong with whatever you order but I recommend the "tekel gomen", "misir key wot" and "gomen".
Great ultimate combo platter. Especially liked the lamb!
Food was amazing (flavour, texture and everything in between). The discovery dish (pictured) allows for 1 meat dish + 3 veggie dishes. Meal is very filling for under $25. Service was good too, despite it being one server only. Highly recommended to anyone looking for amazing, tasteful food. Definitely will be back, keep up the good work Muya!
Hidden gem, you could never tell how good their food is. Traditional Ethiopian served on their injera (the super spongey pancake/crepe/bread/whatever you want it to be!), excellent tastes, great spices and it's always fun to eat with your hands now and then.
Ordered the meat platter on SkipTheDishes. Portion size was perfect for 2 hungry people or 3 average appetites. It was delicious! And the unique cuisine was quite the experience. Price was good too—split between us three people, it was just right. Excited to see more diverse cuisines pop up in KW!
Went there for the first time last night based on Google reviews and I was not disappointed. Food was very tasty and service was equally friendly and helpful.
Food is delicious
This place is a hidden gem in KW. Unique food with incredible service. Really enjoyed my time here yesterday with a group of friends and would strongly recommend people, especially university students who want to broaden their palate, check it out. I would recommend ordering the plate with a little bit of everything (can't remember the name, feeds 3-4) to get a sense of the variety, as well as the coffee which is just great.
Simply delicious and staff is super friendly.
Must try. Many unique dishes and options for vegan diets. The spice mixture was fantastic on many of the dishes. The sponge bread is great tasting and very filling. I would highly recommend the Ethiopian coffee to finish the meal. Portion size is great. Service was a little slow and they did not explain everything, that I would expect (conserving we let them know it was our first time there). Regardless of the service, the meal and value still makes it a 5 out of 5.
Interesting and delicious
Great food and service. Veggie and meat options. Loved it. Fair prices too !
Decent
Amazing food, great service, and best coffee I've ever had in my life! They serve the coffee ceremonially... Making you smell the roasted coffee beans and serving the coffee with incense, it's very cool!
It’s so nice
So much flavour, this place is a gem. Really lovely lady who runs the place too.
Foods was great.
This is it’s not real restaurant unprofessional
Excellent vegan food, they have meat too
Very good Ethiopian food
Stingy restaurant with bread and rice
The food is really delicious, and great staff
This restaurant blew me away. This is exactly what everyone is looking for in a small hole in the wall and is a hidden gem of the Waterloo region. The food is incredible, the people make you feel like a guest in their home. It's unique and yet comfortable. The veggie platter is a must and the beef tibs are incredible, the beef was cut with no fat left, exactly the way I like it. The coffee is roasted and ground to order from fresh coffee beans. Most of all the people are beyond friendly. Please if you are looking to eat something different, give this place a chance. You will not be disappointed.
I've eaten here many times including recently and it's always unbelievably delicious. And incredible value. I could eat this every day for the rest of my life.
Best restaurant...
The waiter lady is very rude she doesn't know how to serve the customer. If the manager see my comment the lady who serve the customer will damage your business if you don't watch her. Unbelievable
Food is good, traditional, very standard Ethiopian fare. Prices are great, service good, and the new renovations to the restaurant are nice.
Great Ethiopian food and portions. The staff are nice too.
Amazing food and service
It is best resturant from Ethiopian Eritrean traditional food in kitchiner
In February 2 2019 I had bad customer service experience in this place . The lady who was behind the counter had to learn some manner and customer service. I went to buy Injeera and the lady refused to place my order in the plastic bag . She was alone in the store and there was no other customer in the store. But she told me to place my order in the bag. For that reason I gave 1 star rate.
Amazing food, amazing service, best customer service :)
Fantastic service (the young lady serving us was knowledgeable and welcoming), great food, cozy environment! Try the platters and the coffee, you will not be disappointed.
Tried Ethiopian cusine for the first time, and loved it. There are a lot of choices and the waitress/hostess was really helpful with explaining the dishes, helping me pick, and teaching me how to eat with the injera. Started off with the mild sauces (as my spicy tolerance isn't quite that high) and it was just right. Got the meat & veg combo which was a great way to try a bit of a variety. There are plenty of vegetarian options, which I appreciate. Definitely will go back!
My first time to be in this restaurant, happy about the food and their hospitality. Bezihu ketilu .
Amazing Ethiopian dining experience. Have been here multiple times and always get the Ultimate Platter. Way to much for two people but mackes for good leftovers. Ideal for three to four. You will not find a better dinner value anywhere that tastes half as good.
If there is zero star I will give this place, especially the lady who serve the customer. Bad bad bad bad bad
Great food and service, it was my first time trying Ethiopian food and they made it a great one!
Waitress stunning, food pretty good too. Will enjoy going back repeatedly.
Horrible experience. The food was not fresh. We had received food that had been made either earlier that day or night but sat for awhile. The meat had changed colour. The order itself took less than 5 mins to arrive. When we spoke with staff they were not able to answer as to how fresh the food was. When we requested to speak with owner he was more clueless than the staff. We ordered water to start with, the cups were dirty and still had lipstick stains and water residue. Do not recommend it to anyone.
I didn't like Ethiopian food the first time i tried it, this place made me like it.
Firstly I got the wrong order from skip the dishes and after 1 hour when i got the actual order, the food taste was horrible. The chickpeas dumpling was as hard as rock. They fried it too much and it tasted like burnt. Wasted 15 dollars.
Good Ethiopian food. Very clean. Friendly service. You will see nice Ethiopian posters and artifacts everywhere. The way they serve food is also interesting! I think one should try it atleast once and see if they like this different taste.
Fantastic experience. We had the vegetarian platter for 2-3 people and it was delicious and a very reasonable price. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. I will definitely be back.
Their food is soo great! I don't even know where to start. I'm Ethiopian and I'm very critical when it comes to eating ethiopian dishes and I can tell you that their food will make your tastbuds go wild!!! It's amazing! For people trying Ethiopian food for the first time, you might be thrown off by how the injera tastes. Some people like it right away and others say it's an aquired taste, but the great thing is if you don't like it you can ask for a rice base instead. Recommended dishes: cha cha tibs, key tibs, shiro. All their tibs are amazing!
I absolutely love this place! The food is amazing and the staff are lovely!
Very good food and very reasonably priced. The vegetarian options have plenty of flavour (the misir key wot was my favourite), and the combo is very filling. Definitely look forward to going back.
Nice place to dine, very friendly customer service
Great service and food.
Awesome food. Great prices.
Smallest portion size ever! We ordered a few dishes- one being awaze tibs spicy. No flavor or spice and the container was half empty. The other dishes we slightly larger but again no spice. We originally tried this restaurant years ago and it was amazing. It must have gone down hill. Will not order again
Tasty.
Vegan platter is delicious. One of our favourite restaurants in KW.
I love Muya. I don't consider myself an "adventurous" eater. So, I wasn't sure about trying Ethiopian food. But I am so glad my friends introduced to Muya! There are lots of great meat and vegan/vegetarian options on the menu. And you get so much food for the price! The food is fresh, delicious and perfectly seasoned. This is a favourite spot for dine-in and take out. (Pictured - from the top, clockwise - spinach, misir key wot, tekel gomen, and injera)
Not a bad thing if your pee in restaurant the place looks empty at first but when you go to the back room and there's more seating you and more people dining the menus are well put together showing newcomers how to eat the injera bread and what to mix it with and they went very detailed on the dish explanations
Excellent food and excellent service! Must try in Kitchener!
Fantastic Ethiopian, great hosts. Recommend the vegie platter.
I would give it a 7 out of 5 rating if I wasn't limited to 5! From a person who lived in Ethiopia for 8 years, take it from me, it's the best Ethiopian cuisine around! On top of that, the service is exceptional - everybody there has a smile on their faces and they really make you feel at home! Can't wait to go there again and have my favorite dish - Injera and Doro Wot! "Amasaganallo Muya Injera!"
One of the best Ethiopian restaurants I’ve been to! Even better than the one in Toronto. This is one of our go-to places to visit in Kitchener. We come back for the Lamb Tibs!!!
Don't go this place horror people, she always angry with no matter, and the food is not fresh
First time visiting and the food was fantastic. Very filling and tasty coffee afterwards. Great price and veggie options
I ordered the veggie combo, mild. You pick the various side dishes which are served on injera, made from leavened teff flour. I had five different side dishes all made with their special Ethiopian spices. Eg. Shimbra Asa, chickpea dumpling sauteed in a red onion and berber. stew You scoop the food up with the injera. unique & tasty
Very good service and we all loved the food. Will definitely be going back and ordering on skip.
