I feel this is the most authentic English pub in Kingston. The ambience and decor is just lovely and the food is amazing! My favourites are the fisherman’s pie which is like a shepherds pie but with fish and it is so delicious, and of course, the fish and chips. There is Sunday special where you can get any kind of fish with chips for 2 for $19.99 which is really fab. My partner and I like to get the halibut, it’s really great. This is such a cosy place with great food and great service, I definitely highly recommend!

We went for diner on our hotels recommendation. I had the fish and chips 2 pcs of ( halibut ) the plate was full of chips and 2 small portions of fish with so much batter you couldn't taste the fish let alone see it. My wife had the steak and cheese on a bun , same thing stir fry steak with processed kraft sliced cheese . The best part of the meal was watching the Dart game on TV . Told the waitress I expected more from a British Pub but wasn't her fault . Bottom line is I do not recommend this place at all and will never go back

Loved this family restaurant! Good service and great food at reasonable prices. I had the special of the night which was a large piece of beer battered cod with coleslaw and fries. It was delicious! We were a party of 7 and everyone loved their food. Definite plans to go again!

I changed my order tonight to the heart healthy option on the menu, and was very pleased with the food! I ordered the grilled fish topped with mushrooms, with a ceasar salad and garlic bread. It was very delicious, and a nice change. I will definitely be ordering it again. I paired it with a Stella Artois. You know your meal is good when you keep thinking about how good your food is while eating your meal. Sadly, I didn't think to take a picture of it. Next time.

Not being a Kingston local, I found out about this joint from wingston.ca when on the prowl for the best chicken wings in Kingston. This place was in their top list so we decided to give it a shot. Let me tell you- the wings are phenomenal! Perfect balance of taste, spice, crispiness and texture. We also had a couple Caesars and pints. Both very on point. Service was on point and very friendly. So after reading all this you may wonder why 4 stars? This cozy little spot has a lot of great offerings, but they need to invest some money into sprucing the place up, and the washrooms- well they are just gross.

We were recommended by a local to try the Fish and Chips at the Rose and Crown. We were not disappointed. The fish was well battered and cooked to perfection. Although the chips were not exactly that you get in a chippy in England, the fries were ok. The highlight for me was the mushy peas (an optional extra). Real mushy peas that you get back in the UK. In addition you can get bread and butter to make your own chip butty.

Only criticism is the glass of Pepsi was a little small, though I'm sure refills would have been no problem.

My wife and I had fish and chips, both the chips and fish were well over cooked to the point the batter broke into chunks when trying to cut it and very little fish inside, don’t know wether the cook was having a bad day but $53 bucks for two dinners of over cooked batter and very little fish and hard rubber fries is a bit much, found it extremely greasy also, Guinness was good though.

I ordered the halibut and chips it was either not even a halibut or severely undercooked as anybody knows that has ever had halibut the meat is always white as snow this was more of the color of salmon so I’m not sure what it was or severely under cooked, the french fries could’ve used another minute or so soggy far from crispy, my wife had crabcakes just OK I don’t know if they make them in the house or buy them already made nothing to write home about, we ordered gravy on the side tasted more like canned gravy then homemade and you don’t gets coleslaw with the order, maybe you pay separately for that, definitely will not go back if that was the best they could do. I was very disappointed from the reviews I read, I thought I was going to get an awesome meal.????

Went for lunch after shopping, the triple decker sandwich was good but could have been toasted more, the fries were unfortunately under cooked.My gf's scallops were not that good, and they use simulated bacon bits in their caeser salad. I go on Wednesday evenings for the open Mic (hosted by Tom Savage)- starts at 8:30, goes to @ midnight. The actual restaurant is a bit rough around the edges. Basic pub food, goid fish & chips, we like the nachos, and the grilled sole is ok. I'd say the food is 2.5 maybe a three. The service has always been very good, they at quick and attentive. It's a fun night out, nothing fancy but it's good and priced well. Open Mic is fun - bring your singing voice and join in :-)

Went in and ordered a chicken finger meal, a full cod meal and unbreaded Cod with a cesar salad and without crutons for take-out. I was very disappointed when I got home and even after having the server talk to the cook about the unbreaded fish, still ended up with breaded fish. When the restuarant was called about the issue after some discussion with the manager I was told I would have to drive back and pickup the new piece of fish because they were "busy". I was offered no refund or discount for my inconvenience and was handed just handed my food. I recieved the fish pictured, it was poorly cooked, extremely greasy and tasted like vegtable oil. Very disappointed with this.

We read that Rose and Crown has a DEDICATED fryer for fish and chips for those of us that have celiac. We've lived in the area for several decades and I can't recall a previous visit to the Rose & Crown Restaurant. However, accompanied with our two grandsons and looking for something different, we ended up having a pleasant lunch at the Rose & Crown. The grandsons chose from the kid's menu and ate chicken strips accompanied by chips for one and onion rings for the other. Grandma had liver and bacon with chips and I had a veggie curry with chips. The grandsons then enjoyed a dish of chocolate ice cream, grandma a coffee and me a pint of Hobgoblin. Our dishes were tasty despite a common colour of light brown. A few colourful veggies would improve the presentation. However, there was no complaint over the $50 total and a $10 tip for good service. For a small pub, I was impressed with the number of beers on tap. There must have been around a dozen taps although only one craft beer. I look forward to returning and checking out the supper menu.

The service was bad. Batter is very thick. Not attentive to their customers, I could understand if they’re busy but they’re not. They were just talking by the bar. We keep waiting when are they going to hear and see us waiving. Finally one server catch our attention but when she came to us, we apologized because she’s not our server but we’re desperate to have some water and ketchup. When she came it seems that we bothered her so much to know what we want. I can cope up with the attitude if the food were great. That’s my opinion.. First and last.

I ordered cod and chips (one piece) for 11.95 and was then asked if I wanted coleslaw for another $2. While I can get a meal elsewhere for around $10, this place charges 11.95 for the smallest of meal choices and then wants another $2 for coleslaw. This time of year you can buy a whole head of cabbage for $1 and we all know how many servings of coleslaw that would make. Lots! Also, I ordered a cola and was served an 8-ounce glass with ice (no refills) and, when the bill came, I was charged $2.95. Now, that is what I call price gouging!!! It will be quite a while until I return. I don't like ordering a meal and then being nickeled and dimed afterwards. For what I got the price was already a little over the edge. Rose and Crown you may be a restaurant but we all know the first sign of financial difficulty is nickel and diming people after they have already paid for a meal. That's no way to build up business. It sure has turned me off.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would . Been a customer here since I moved back to Kingston . The food and service are consistently excellent . If it is busy or quiet the level of service and quality of the food does not change . This in my humble opinion is a true sign of a well run restaurant . The fish and chips is the best you will find and the rest of the menu is equally as good . I am a restaurant professional of 20 plus years (and a proud Englishman ) and do not hand out these kind of compliments often . Thank you so much .

The open mic on Wednesdays is fun and during the open mic, the starters are 50% off. The starters are really good especially the Thai chicken bites. Definitely recommend!

I love the Rose and Crown. I've been going there for a few years for different things. I find the fish and chips that I got was very very well priced. Compared to the other takeout fish and chips place right around the corner and they are about half the price, and twice as good, and not greasy. You can get four pieces with fries and gravy and large salad for $34 takeout you can't beat it.

Love love love this restaurant. Have been coming here for 30 years each time I visit knigston...amazing atmosphere, great food, reasonably priced and friendly staff. Always busy so if you can plan ahead do so make a reservation. However if you drop by they are quick to accommodate you anytime!

Fairly nice atmosphere but the prices are ridiculous. We ordered a small plate of nachos for ten bucks. The plate had about 15 chips, a bit of cheese and some diced peppers and onions... Not a lot. It may have cost them a buck to make it. Most restaurants give you that for free while you're waiting for your food. Stick to the fish and chips. At least that's a better deal.

Wasn't planning on going to the Rose and Crown but pleased that we ended up here. Food was very good and portion sizes were on the large size. Made a note for next time that the one piece fish and chips will be plenty as couldn't get through the two pieces. Will return for sure.

Always a great place to go. For a suburban pub it works. Mike the owner is a lilliputan so he's authentic enough to make it a proper English pub. Although the drop ceiling is still strip mall, the ambience is close to the real thing. Beers cold and the food is hot.

My wife frequently have a meal at the wonderful restaurant. The food and the staff is really good. We especially love their fish and chips with butterfly shrimp special. Then we finish it off with the un-resistible Sticky Toffee pudding to fill your mouth which will leave you craving to have more.

Went here for lunch because a friend recommended it as a 'Good British pub.' I was really disappointed with the food. I ordered a steak and ale hot pot pie, which came with vegetables and fries. The pie only had three small pieces of beef in it. Most of the filling was just gravy! The side vegetables were clearly from a bag of frozen veggies. The fries were the best bit. If I'd wanted eat gravy and crust with veggies from a bag, I would have gone to the supermarket instead of paying $22 for a meal at this pub. It makes a mockery of British food. Definitely won't be coming back.
