Food is so tasty!!!
For those consumers looking for reasonably priced local cuisine - look elsewhere! Incredibly overpriced for what was provided, food tasted fine but portions were very small. The service was the poorest I have experienced in a long time. Limited eye contact, no pleases or thank yous and a general awkwardness made this dining experience fairly unmemorable. We felt more a nuisance than guests. This restaurant would be great if the portions were increased and if the staff looked like they actually wanted to work there!
Some really excellent dishes like the Agassiz congee and pappardelle. Fresh tomato dish and slow cooked ribs weren't my favourites. Excellent service. Nice vibe.
We came here for NYE. The food was tasteful however it was extremely expensive. With a $70 set menu one expects to leave a restaurant satisfied - we left still hungry. At one point I asked for some bread and was told they have no bread on the menu!!! Although the service was pleasant, I personally felt I was taken for a ride and I would not visit this restaurant again. If you are after small dainty portions at high prices then this is the place for you!
Amazing dinner and service. I can appreciate paying more for the farm to table experience, however it was a bit on the pricey end. That said, this is on my list of recommendations!
Pros: Staff were lovely and very knowledgable. Drinks menu is great and some of the dishes were quite tasty (the lamb belly and charred cabbage particularly notable). Facilities are very clean and nicely designed. Cons: Experience simply doesn't match the price point. This place is NOT cheap and some of the food items were pretty bland for what is being charged for them (fennel salad particularly bland, despite the thought that obviously went in to designing the dish). For what we paid here I expected more. Service sluggish at times and, once again, I could forgive it because there are so few staff for an often full room, but for the price point I expected prompt delivery of drinks and clearing of plates which just wasn't the case sometimes. There are definitely significantly better options in Vancouver for this money, hence the three stars.
Love the pancakes
Amazing food, well crafted and original. The portions are on the smaller side.
The space is quite cozy, the wood ceiling and tables give it warmth. The high tables are good for a couple, but not so for any larger groups, the gap in between the tables can't be adjusted and makes sharing plates (the recommended way) difficult. The food was beautifully presented with unique ingredients such as bergamot, fiddleheads and green almonds. There were though a few misses, such as the risotto (too watery), halibut cheeks (cooked a little too long) and the buttermilk chicken. It's expensive for what you get, for example, $6 for three slices of bread without a side of butter is a bit much. Service was excellent and the tequila based cocktail is a must and they carry some really great wines!
Would be 5 stars for me if they had different coffee. I'm not a fan of the locally roasted beans they use (Elysian). Otherwise, the brunch service was 5-star-great, from the gluten-free benny to the attentive service.
very cosy and the food was great
Awesome
Best of class in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood
First of, the waitresses needs to do a much better job if this restaurant wants to consider itself to be a higher end restaurant. The waitresses are rather careless or sometimes rude. The food tastes better than average, not much passion in it though. The worst is the portion looks rather stingy. You should be looking at 2 dishes per person at least, which makes it go over 100 bucks for two easily.
A very cute restaurant with a unique menu that delivers on most fronts, but misses the mark on the odd dish. Their vegetarian choices are interesting and overall delicious. Their tuna dish is perhaps the most disappointing item on the menu. Rather mushy in texture and way over dressed in a too sweet oil based dressing. The pork belly was very tastey but could have used a little bit more overall crispness. Wine selections are interesting and enjoyable, desserts were delicious. The bread offered as a course was tastey but not worth the price for three small pieces. I was happy I went but can't say I am yet thinking about a return visit.
One of the most incredible restaurants in the city. Always pushing themselves to create thought-provoking, delicious food. The wine list is also second to none for natural options in the city. The main complaint I've seen on here is regarding portion size–this is not the place to come for a big cheap meal, if you're still hungry, get some of their amazing sourdough.
NOT CHILD FRIENDLY. Just tried to get a seat at this place for brunch with my family and was disappointed. I was there 5 minutes before opening and was the 3rd person in line. When the doors opened the restaurant was empty and I was told there was no space for my child and that we could only sit at the bar. With a small child under 2 that is not possible. I asked if I could sit at the normal table and they refused. I don't think I will ever try to go back. Again the restaurant want empty.
Gorgeous, locally-sourced and inspired dishes, amazing drinks and wines with a rich story behind them. And let’s not forget the incredible and knowledgeable service staff! The candlelit atmosphere was intimate, cosy and comfortable. We very much enjoyed our time here tonight and would absolutely go back, especially as chef Andrea seems to be having a blast reinventing the menu every few months!
Worst service I've experienced in a long time. The server seemed impatient with us and judgemental when we ordered too few dishes. Throughout the dinner, she never smiled; in general we felt like she had something against us and made us feel second class. The food was okay, but nothing special. If anything, most dishes were overly salty. I won't be back and will not be recommending Burdock to friends. There are so many other places to spend your money and stomachs on.
Best food on Main.
Hubby and I were looking forward to the Mexican culinary feature menu a couple nights ago. We are big fans of central and south american cuisine but were unfortunately very disappointed. Food was underwhelming for the overwhelming price we paid. Sadly, their music was a lot more tasteful than what our other senses experienced that evening :(
Great food,great service,a bit pricey.Decent atmosphere.
Excellent service & the best natural wines!
Very healthy and tasty place with creativeness and new plates for our mouth. Love it with my wife. Maybe a bit noisy and music is not appropriate!
This restaurant needs six stars. Must visit every time we come to Vancouver. Incredible organic dishes, unique every time. Plating is beautiful and the service is five star itself. Many vegan and vegetarian options, but make sure you try the fried chicken. It's off the charts One of the best restaurants in the city.
Really yummy. Quite expensive.
Absolute best time. We celebrated our anniversary tonight and the whole experience will be in our hearts. Thank you!
Great combinations of fresh local ingredients. Mostly small dishes to share. Small restaurant good for young professionals wanting to drink and eat healthy organic food. Not good for the wallet though.
Wow! Outstanding food and service from all staff. Chef is really focussed on quality local food and unique combinations. Menu changes every 6 weeks as food availability changes. Love that fresh menu and didn’t wait to go back.
Great wine
Great service and beautiful patio. Nice list of old world wines and staff is very knowledgeable! Portions are small but the 6 course set menu was very fun and beautifully presented. It all tasted delicious! Especially the sour dough and halibut.
Over priced: "want a be" 5 star.
I like the cabbage side salad and the fact that they take reservations, and it was easy to get in for brunch on a Sunday at 12 p.m. . Unfortunately most of the main dishes we had were overpriced and uninspiring. We had the congee which I thought was quite bland, tomato and egg which was also rather boring, and the best item any entree category was the French toast which had some nice butter covered in honey comb. That said for the price it was not the greatest and places like Medina are far superior. I probably won't go back. Again one more mention, the cabbage side salad was excellent, far overshadowing the mains. Service was pretty good
Came in early for dinner. Had the prix fixe with additions of oysters and truffles (for the mushroom lasagne). The drink pairing is a fantastic accompaniment and cannot be recommended enough. Each course was fresh and full of flavour. The wild mushroom lasagne was my favourite course, even before the truffles.
Some of the finest food in the city comes out of this restaurant. It's AMAZING! Great if not the greatest wine list in the city too. What's not to love...
Lovely spot.
Incredible hospitality, excellent food, great wine list, and a lovely atmosphere. An absolute local gem that is terribly underappreciated; one of the first restaurants in town to have a fully natural wine list and Chef Andrea Carlson and her team create beautiful dishes that express the abundance and freshness of Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and beyond. Impeccable service from Tiago and the rest of the front of house staff really bring the experience together. 5/5, do recommend! ????????????
food was fantastic. it seems awkwardly located for a restaurant of it's calivre, but no complaints from me.
Dinner
We went there to try their 2022 dine out menu and glad that we did! We had some bread as a starter (sourdough, cornbread, baby scones) with sake butter. The butter had a strong sake flavour which we really enjoyed. For appetizer, we had duck confit and albacore. The duck confit was served with waffle underneath and crème fraîche and a tough of citrus which was a well done combination. The albacore was on a bed of congee with mushroom and scallops which was served with fried egg; it was exceptional! You could taste the umami of the mushroom and scallops XO and it was well balanced, though we thought the albacore was extra. For entrees, we had pork collar and cod loin. The cod was over cooked as it was really dry but I liked it with the aioli. The texture of pork collar was tender and juicy and the taste was delicious. Over to the desserts, ricotta cheesecake and einkorn cake. It’s not like a typical dessert we’d have but really enjoyed the einkorn cake because it felt organic and healthy. The cheesecake wasn’t something special but it was good. All in all, I’d definitely recommend people coming to try their dish once; however, please be mindful that the portions are very small. We actually went for another meal after this.
Best restaurant on Main street, hands down. Yes it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. Great service, great food and great atmosphere.
Wasn't that good
Food was nicely prepared but the portions were too small. My poor hubby ordered the fried chicken and got maybe 7-8 chicken popcorn/nuggets and some pieces of potato. I got the bacon frittata which was not bad. These dishes cost $16each. The food tasted good but wouldn't go there again due to the value.
Fabulous wine selection and unique menu on the heart of main st.
Disappointed. Was so looking forward to this meal and it fell short. Radiccio salad was so salty and just all round unpalatable. Risotto was much better but also so salty in certain bites. The savory éclair was ok but lacked flavour overall. Duck was tender but served lukewarm and the celeriac terrine, not a good accompaniment as it was served cool with the duck. The desert also failed, as it was bland. Service was great. Felt very bad for the couple beside us who were given a table right on top of the hostess station with a coat hook right above their heads. Overall not worth the $69 price tag for the fixed meal price and overrated.
OVER PRICE AND SMALL DISH S$$$$$ For those consumers looking for reasonably priced local cuisine - look elsewhere! Incredibly overpriced for what was provided, food tasted fine but portions were very very small, nothing innovating or even presentation like other restaurants similar to this one. Service was mediocre. I like to eat out and never write reports, but this was by far my worst dining experience , so I thought I must share it this time. Save your money!
Nope. Overpriced and dreadful.
Great food at a great price
Tried their brunch, it's quite tasty here. Portions were alright but they are a bit pricy given it is on Main Street. Service was pretty decent, they seemed quite busy on a Saturday morning so definitely consider reservations!
My partner and I come to Burdock & Co when we want to treat ourselves and it delivers! The spring seasonal menu was to die for. Highlights for me were the prawns and asparagus as well as the sakura cherry dessert. The meringue was the same quality as we had in France. We also enjoyed the seasonal greens, quinoa risotto, arctic sourdough bread, halibut and chocolate pot de crème. Our server was lovely and knew the menu very well. The food came very quickly as well. If you want a meticulously crafted indulgent culinary experience, Burdock & co is the place for you!
Decided to visit this place as it was rated the #2 brunch spot in Vancouver. Service and atmosphere was great, but the food was 5/10 at best. Ordered the mushroom on toast and the fried chicken. Fried chicken was good, but the sauce pairing was odd and a bit too much on the onion. Mushroom toast was alright, oily, nothing special to remember
Food is so tasty!!!
Excellent artisan chef menu. Steeply priced for Main Street area, however, the experience is worth the price
The most pretentious restaurant in Vancouver. Our night started off with the waiter seating us down, handing us the menu, and telling us we would need to order like 5 dishes to be full, which are upwards of $25 each, and not enough to even feed a baby. What kind of waiter starts off by saying that? Oh well, should have walked out right when they said that. We ordered two dishes to start with, which came one at a time. The taste was good, but not enough to make up for the fact that the portion was not enough for a toddler let alone an adult. The whole atmosphere in the restaurant was completely pretentious. The staff seemed stuck up. At this point, just wanted to pay and leave, but had to wait around for 40 minutes to see if a waiter would appear as they were all hiding around the back it seems. I had to get up, go to them, and tell them that we'd like the bill. 15 minutes later, we got the bill, and then 15 minutes later, the waiter brought over the machine. This is the first restaurant review I've ever written. Worst dining experience. You have to be a certain kind of person to enjoy this place.
Food here is simply amazing
Good foo d but pricy
Awesome
This is a must go if you are in the neighborhood. Amazing restaurant run by true professionals
Nice hidden gem. Fills up quickly and it seems like reservations are the norm. We snuck in right when they opened and got a table. Our food was rich and delicious. My coffee was refilled numerous times. Space is bright and doesn't get too noisy when the crowd starts to build. My French pancake - Dutch baby - was hot out of the oven and topped with seasonal fruit.
Very authentic local food experience in a small, pleasent room with quiet, knowledgeable service. Highly recommend as part of Vancouver's interesting food scene.
Nicely prepared and presented dishes with fresh ingredients. Somewhat overpriced, although service was excellent.
Amazing location with wooden walls and candlelight on the tables. We had the set 5 course Valentine's day menu with the wine pairings and it was perfectly paired. All of the courses we're extremely well done and the coursing order made sense. Get the beer pairing with the desert
Way overpriced for the tiny share plates and mediocre food.
Great dishes and the service was lovely and added to the experience. We ordered the family style share menu which was a little pricey, but left us really full - it included six dishes, plus dessert. Highly recommend the chicken dish and the beat salad. Also, the open kitchen layout lets you watch the chefs work their magic!
Definitely recommend coming here to try out their brunch. There's a bunch of interesting choices. My recommendations would be the French pancake and also the fried chicken
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life.
Although the portions were a bit small, I found the ingredients pairing to be tasty, the décor was quaint. But the service... it was the worst I've ever had. I'm surprised that my experience with the waitress is similar to another person who recently left a review (maybe we had the same waitress). She was overtly cold and unfriendly throughout the whole evening, and even cut my friends' off a few times when they were asking questions about the menu items. If you're looking for good food and service that won't leave a bad taste in your mouth, please look elsewhere.
Loved it, cozy and beautiful atmosphere with great service and delicious food. I'll be back again for sure!!!!
I went here for brunch and I'd absolutely recommend it. It was so tasty! I recommend the meatballs, the fried chicken, and the fettuccini. Our server was so helpful too.
Tasty food, but small portions for the price. Would've given more stars if the service had been better... Not a word was said when each dish was dropped off, let alone an explanation of what the elements of the dish were. A server dropped off a scone in front of me, which was supposed to be for my friend, but as I tried to ask her what it was she turned and walked away. Never checked up on us either, and then brought the bill suddenly, without having asked us how we'd like it split, and again left without a word.
How is it possible people are having average experiences here? We got the tasting menu with the wine pairings and left perfectly pleased, with no overly stuffed or morning headache regrets. The service was flawless. Will definitely be back.
Disco dumpling s is incredible. Great food. Good service and dope music.
Disappointed. I've been wanting to try this place for brunch for the past two years. Finally booked it for Father's Day dinner and was not impressed. Don't know if the chefs have changed, but I tasted a heavy Taiwanese (yes, very specifically) cuisine influence in the dishes. But I am in a Westcoast restaurant! Very average service. Although, the table beside us got a table wiping in the middle of the meal.
(Translated) ???????????? is delicious, The following evaluation, It really depends on the individual, but for me, Because i sat at the bar today, The hygiene of the entire chef, and the feeling of eating, For me, it was really good. So don't look at the evaluation meal, please feel it for yourself ???? (Original) ????????????是好吃的, 下面的評價, 真的都是看個人,但對我來說, 因為我今天坐吧台, 整個廚師的衛生,及整個吃飯的感覺, 對我來說,真的很好. 所以別看評價吃飯,請自己來感覺體會????
One of the top 5 meals I’ve ever had!! Menu is concise and thoughtful - really paying attention to seasonal and local ingredients. I also love that they have plates and bowls from local artisans such as Janika Larson ❤️. Everything start to finish was so memorable - thanks Meredith!!!
Been here for dinner a few times, finally decided to make my way there on a Sunday morning to try their brunch. It was AMAZING! Lived up to the dinner standard for sure. I will be going back :)
Good food, excellent wine list
As we are coming out of a pandemic you want to support the restaurant industry but my experience tonight was merely ridiculous. Arrived at 7:15 pm for a patio seating and until 7:37 pm no server appeared to serve us or take our orders. My partner and I sat on the seats for almost 30 mins drinking tap water. In the end we left, I told the hostess how it was ridiculous and got a “we’re so sorry” and I just want to say this is the first time where I am disappointed over service, and this is unacceptable. I hope this restaurant can really tune up their operations for client services.
Not bad, but could be better in service and quality food.
Incredible vegan dishes ????
Great food, little dark in there though for what it is
Given the range of options within two blocks we expected a better experience. Uninspired food, small portions, barely noticeable 'add on purchases', slow kitchen, ok table service. Menu sounds good but just doesn't deliver.
Everytime I want to have a nice, fancier dinner in Vancouver I think of where I would want to go and I always end up wanting to go to Burdock. Yes, order a minimum of two dishes per person, if not 3, and be adventurous with your wine choices (the list will reward and open mind and mouth...). Amazing attention to detail in the kitchen, with the best farms and local produce represented on the plate. Anyone who is still hungry after eating here is doing it wrong. Thank you to Andrea and the whole crew for doing the hard work.
Food is always top-notch. Fried Chicken FTW
No exaggeration, this was the best meal of my entire life. My best friend, who I brought with me said she would die happy if she died immediately after eating. 12/10 on both our accounts. Perfect amount of food, excellent seasoning and service, and they even helped us celebrate our 5 yr friendship anniversary. I think I'm married to the burrata now. Order it. If you're reading this and thinking about going to Burdock, do yourself a favor and just do it. Best meal of my life.
Service
Great small plates made with local produce and a fun variety of natural wines. It’s worth checking them out when they do Disco Dumplings on Monday night.
Very friendly staff and great food without pretense. Ask for a seat at the bar to watch the chefs at work
One of my favourite cocktails is an old fashioned and the one I had here is the best I’ve had in the city so far. In my quest for the best my mind always comes back to this one.
Burdock & Co has an la carte style menu built for sharing. They also have a "family style" multiple course option but it's not a set menu as the will cater it to the diners likes and dietary requirements. The food is excellent and the course of items we received were mostly subtle flavours save for lamb. It's not inexpensive but not exorbitant either and a unique take on presentation. Service was friendly maybe could be a bit quicker but didn't detract from the experience ... definitely worth a visit!
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life.
As always Burdock was awesome! Incredible new menu items that were fantastic and of course the fried chicken is a must have! Service was impeccable and wine was exceptional
Fantastic small sharing plates, and an amazing gin and tonic.
Best brunch I've had yet. We stumbled across Burdock and Co. on a rainy day, and what a find it was! Friendly atmosphere, great service, and superb food. We sat at the 'bar' where we got to watch the chefs in action, all of whom were friendly and excellent at what they do - which was further evidenced when we got our food. The gluten free eggs benedict is served on a biscuit, with a choice of bacon or kale, and is, by far, the best gluten free eggs benedict I have ever tried (and I have tried quite a few). I opted for the kale since we were ordering a side of their thick-cut maple and fennel bacon to share. The kale worked surprisingly well, and the bacon was to die for. My partner ordered the french toast with ricotta, honeycomb butter and bourbon caramel. And it is as good as it sounds. Our server was excellent - friendly and attentive, and always ready to refill the excellent coffee or provide more hot water for tea. I couldn't recommend this place more.
Beautiful space with delicious food. I visited with a small group and we all had some variety of eggs on sour dough and we all enjoyed our meals. A little on the expensive side, but you're paying for quality. Excited to visit again and try more of their menu.
Hipster and fun. Ok food
I don't think I really fully understand the concept of Burdock & Co. I should have done my homework before I went. I left with mixed feelings. I can however recommend the duck - melt in the mouth tender. My friends fancied the asparagus also. Everyone was fascinated by the lichen that garnished this dish. The risotto was different but reminded me of my morning porridge. Overall interesting and unexpected flavours. Our table of four was taken aback that staff made us feel that the "family style" serving method was mandatory. The portions were anything but family style and were served in the order the server said she felt was best. We were also expected to order about two dishes per person. The food was served with precision and by fairly pleasant people who thankfully knew what the ingredients were. It takes real hard work to run a restaurant but not everyone is going to appreciate the "otherness", creativity and thought that goes into a place like this. Some may call it pretentious but bold is a better description for me. Overall an entertaining experience which left us lighter in the pocket, still a bit hungry and with feelings of guilt for being fortunate enough to indulge this way. I still don't really get it ????
(Brunch Review) Burdock makes the most delicious Eggs Benedict in Vancouver. Their Hollandaise sauce has the right taste and texture and is always consistent. Some of their brunch dishes are served on gluten free bread, which is weirdly delicious! I believe they won an award for their Crispy Fried Chicken at one point in time. Burdock serves Elysian coffee, bakes sourdough bread and jam preserves in-house. They have both vegan and vegetarian options and use organic locally grown vegetables in their dishes. Hopefully they open up for brunch again soon because they only make the best!
Such mediocre food...
Attentive, sincere and knowledgeable service. The food was outstanding and the wine list was unique and delicious. Overall a remarkable experience. Thank you.
One of my top 5 restaurants in Vancouver! Service is great and the food is AMAZING. Prices are higher but it’s a great experience
The dining experience brought with it a few dishes which were very good and a few that fell short. It almost followed a pattern, the bread was good, the starter missing something that made it great, the steak was excellent, however, the pasta had no structure and could have been seasoned a little more, one dessert a rockstar and the other... well you get it. The cocktails were a consistent star. Overall for the price and class of restaurants you expect more. The elements are there but hopefully in the future it’s consistency improves.
One of the best culinary/wine experiences in Vancouver. Cant explain it better than that. Small place so make rezzos
Great Brunch!
Loved the food, presentation and vibe here. Impressive wine selection and unique flavours, will definitely come back.
Tentative service with nice ambiance, good wine list; unfortunately the night we dined there 3 out of 4 dishes were overly salty. The host explained that the crew was relatively new, thus still in training mode and she offered dessert on the house. However given the price level, the expectation is that chef will have a taste of the dishes before sending them out.
Very delicious dishes, small plates so you can try quite a few unique flavour opportunities. Definitely on the pricey side but thought the food justified it well enough. If the group is 6+ you apparently have to get the Chef's menu for $69 per person. I highly recommend for a fancy date night but only if you're willing to spend $$$.
In short - Overpriced, Undersized (portions) and ultimately underwhelming. We went here as two couples, our friends had done a lunch here and enjoyed it so we decided to give it a go for dinner. The place is nice, the staff friendly and accommodating, that's the good. We were told by the staff we should order two to three plates per couple (I think), I looked at the prices, average $16-25, it seemed okay so we got a few plates to share and try. We ordered a pasta dish, Fried Chicken and a Carrot salad which seemed like a good range. We got the Carrot salad first, it was bland, a few carrots and a few other veg and a sauce and that was it, very disappointing (and cheap). Then the pasta which was tasty but was TINY - two bites and you're done, and lastly the friend chicken, it was fresh but just had nothing interesting with it. We walked away with a roughly $100 bill per couple and we were all still hungry and hadn't even been wow'ed by a single dish and were surprised by how little we got for our money. If you're hungry you need three plates EACH, then you're talking roughly $60 per person for food before drinks etc. Id even be okay with this if the food was great, it wasn't. I saw someone else mention the word pretentious and I think that sums the food up well. We went a couple of doors down the street after the meal ordered more drinks and had to order more food. Id never go back to this place and mostly warn others about going. It would be 1* if the place and the staff hadn't been decent. For the size of the portions the price should be half what they are.
Had a date night here with my husband recently and was impressed with the level of service and cozy atmosphere of this beloved restaurant even with all the covid requirements. We don't go out for dinner now very often so every attention to detail was appreciated. Every item on the set menu we had was delicious, especially the chicken which was so flavourful and perfectly roasted. Also enjoyed a new bottle of red wine as recommended by the Sommelier who curates the wine list and every bottle has a story and was delicious!
Didn't have a proper bartender...server was looking up drink recipes, and the service was poor. Quite disappointing experience considering this was a recommendation.
Exceptionally creative, well prepared and presented dishes. Very comfortable COVID measures are implemented.
Great Brunch!
Updated review: Have now been here a few times as they seasonally update their dinner menu and it’s been fantastic. Inventive and flavour rich dishes, great vegetarian options and amazing service. Their knowledge and passion for natural wine is incredible. Previous review: Delicious brunch. Had the Croque Madame and it was delicious. Lots of veggie options!
A class service, C class food. Servers here are very friendly, very attentive. The food unfortunately is nothing to write home about and the prices absolutely do not justify the portions.
We had first of the season halibut that came plated with citrussy wood sorrel, wild barley and deer lichen (crunchy)! I mean, who thinks to put that together?? It was one of the most memorable things I have ever eaten! How can this place have such a low rating??
Worst meal if you can call it that that I've ever had expect to leave hungry and without any money to buy McDonald's to fill up with after.
Pretty big fan of this place - had such a nice time sitting at the bar. Even good restaurants have that "going through the motion" periods but Burdock & Co really seemed to enjoy the process. We had an extended conversation about the wine with the sommelier, enjoyed some interesting facts with the person who brings in the oysters. It was delightful. The food is great - I'd highly recommend this place for a couple seeking something casual and delicious.
The food here is always very comforting, its hearty and delicious with a few subtleties.
The dining experience brought with it a few dishes which were very good and a few that fell short. Great food with fresh local products. Great wine. Perfect service. Great atmosphere. Neither too salty nor too sweet. All we need for a dinner out.

Featuring foods from Pacific northwest. It was super delicious and you can watch the chef's put the food together from the bar The only downside was the pork was very salty and seemed like preserved ham and there weren't much options to choose from in the menu as it was a set menu. We were under the impression that there were more options for the menu that were a la carte.
Great ambience and staff, beautiful food (we opted for the chef's menu and it was thoughtful and delicious), great drink selection, and seems to be hugely underrated!
The bread was the highlight and it's apparently milled in house and for six dollars for three small pieces I sure hope so. Also had the mushrooms dish and the fried chicken which were both way over priced and just ok. Service was also subpar especially considering the prices, seemed they really didn't know what it was they were serving or why.
One of the worst meals I’ve had in a long time. Call themselves Pacific Northwest cuisine but have barely anything local in the menu. Everything is drenched in cream. Definitely avoid this one if you can
I came here for brunch with 3 other girl friends. We reserved a table online. When we arrived we were seated on the side of the restaurant that was only high-top seating with a round metal bar stool. We had no idea half the restaurant would be this type of seating. The other half was regular low 2 top tables with 1 chair and banquette seating. Two of us are pregnant and sitting on the small metal barstools was so uncomfortable, so we asked to move to the low table. After a few minutes the staff came back and said they were able to fit us in to a different table which I was so grateful for. All four of us were blown away by how good our food was. I tried the fried chicken which I had read was really good, and it totally lived up to its reputation! It was so delicious! Perfectly fried and crispy, boneless, dusted with pickle dust. Served with perfectly cooked potatoes and an amazing fresh tartar like sauce. I loved it so much. Scrumptious! My friend got this as well and said it was the best fried chicken she had since moving to Vancouver 2 years ago. One of my other friends said her eggs benny was one of the best she has had in town, and would be bringing her husband back to try it right away. Overall we were so pleased with all the food, and the service was especially friendly and accommodating. It was the perfect spot for a lovely catch-up brunch for us! Lovely restaurant, lovely staff. What a gem!
Food taste good but portion is small. Esp they advertise for brunch. Disappointed may not come back again
Very authentic local food experience in a small, pleasent room with quiet, knowledgeable service. Highly recommend as part of Vancouver's interesting food scene.
Nice decor. That's about it. Cooking was nothing to write home about but price/portion ratio was a little on the low side.
Very interesting flavours. Nice mid-point wine list.
Are there even words? That shrimp and melon dish? Oh mah gah. The corn thing with the green stuff? Jfc just inject it right into me. The chicken breast? What did you do to that basic b? Cuz she fancy. ...So we've established there are not words. We had a great time, the food was unforgettable and the cocktails were delicious. We loved the housemade cherries.
If you're looking for fresh, local food served with a lack of pretension, this is your place. Farm to table at its best in Vancouver, with wonderful wine suggestions. If you're looking for large portions or family-style sharing, this isn't the place.
Super expensive for tiny portions. Way overpriced
Someday I'll be back at this place, food was ???????????? Everything is so fresh and so good.
Unusual and delicious
Visited on a Saturday morning for brunch. Hostess originally seemed as if our presence was more of a nuisance - I would recommend making a reservation to avoid this. Server on the other hand was very friendly and you are definitely paying for the experience! I had the mushrooms on toast and it was although difficult to cut due to how hard the toast was, fairly good.
Really innovative dishes!
Really nice inside. Great service. Variety of options. Staff seem to know what they are taking about.
Burdock & Co is one of the staple places defining Vancouver's culinary scene. A small and unassuming place with minimal decor and relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to appreciate the cuisine focused on local, in-season ingredients. The chef's menu is usually a reliable indicator of the kitchen crew skills and the chef's creativity. We found the refreshed Summer 2018 menu to be on the conservative side, with safe ingredient pairings. Some of the dishes came way too salty and most of them weren't anywhere near impressive. Out of seven courses, the charred cabbage with creme fraiche was the only dish that stood out above average. Perhaps, it takes time to polish the new menu, but it's hard to say that a dinner in Burdock offered an experience we want to repeat.
Good small plates
Perfectly balanced meal. So delicious.
Just an overall great experience. Food was fantastic, presentation, taste and service. I will surely be going back. Also for what you got 55$ is very reasonable imho. And the portion size was good , I was full but didnt over eat.
If you're a tourist visiting Vancouver for a short period of time, don't waste a meal here. Burdock is nothing outstanding though it has a high ranking amount the various magazines and food critics websites. I went there for brunch and ordered fettuccine (server recommendation). Very salty not to mention the portion is kid's size. The gentlemen seating on the table next to me complain to the server the dish is salty too. Apparently the chef is doing a bad job. My wife ordered egg Benny on scone. Again, nothing outstanding. Simple poach egg, simple roasted potatoes, simple bacon and simple scones with a few raw greens on top. I started to lose faith to vancouver magazine and straight.
This is undeniably the best tasting food in Vancouver. The quality of their brunch dishes doesn't even come close to any other restaurant (not just in Vancouver, but anywhere in the world). I am forever a regular and will forever recommend this to all my friends. They were also gracious enough to host our wedding here. The owners and staff are all incredible human beings!
It's unfortunate that this restaurant is ruined by one wait staff. Food may have been better if the service was exceptional, but still hard to say for small portions with steep prices. The main issue was that our server seemed to have a problem with us being present. She did not respond when we said our 'please' and 'thank yous' throughout the night, yet she had coldly whispered 'your welcome' the one time we did not say 'thank you' after she placed dessert menus in front of us (which we didn't ask for). Too many rude experience to list for this one staff. No excuse for this type of service. I will be recommending all my friends, families and colleagues to not visit this restaurant.
An appealing room, friendly service, and a creative menu, filled with interesting ingredients like mustard greens, sunroot, pine mushrooms, burdock, fennel pollen, black trumpets, green faro, etc. I started with the Marigold’s Gimlet cocktail, very beautifully presented and well balanced flavours. I then had the poached fresh Urban Digs Egg presented over browned butter and potato puree and crumbles of hazelnut and blue cheese on the plate. Lovely. Followed by the fire roasted green faro, with spruce tips, black garlic, and sorrel, a dish I have never seen before. Also very tasty. The ice cream was wonderful and the crust had a fabulous texture
Beat meal I've had in forever. The tasting menu is so well done and absolutely delicious. We look forward to going back
When I arrived I was told I could sit right away, so I plugged the meter. Immediately after I was told they made a mistake and there wasn't a table free, but it would only be 20 minutes or so. 45 minutes later we were finally seated. The food came fast but was small portions and left much to be desired. Will not be returning.
The Swedish meatballs (especially the sauce) was exquisite
When you pay this much for food you expect either quality or quantity. Here, we got neither. The portions are *tiny* for the price so we expected nothing less than some of the best tasting bites we've had in a while. Unfortunately, no minds were blown that evening - we left with hungry stomachs and empty wallets. $100 for 4 mediocre tapas...and only one had meat! No way these guys were getting any more of my money. Grabbed a couple of pizza slices elsewhere to fill the void after we left. Points for service, decor and concept.
Fantastic food. Beautiful interior design and details.
Good food and a fine décor, but the portion sizes are paltry. I get it; you want to increase your revenue by having patrons order more food. But without sufficient value, the customers are going to go elsewhere.
Love the pancakes
Good small plates
Best Benny I have had in a long long time. And the Elysian coffee was hot and strong - as it should be!
Overpriced, small portions, dishes without taste neither flavour, nothing innovating or even presentation like other restaurants similar to this one. The worst rissotto ever. Service was mediocre. I like to eat out and never write reports, but this was by far my worst dining experience , so I thought I must share it this time. Save your money!
My favorite restaurant on Main Street. The flavor combinations are fantastic! The chef is always changing meals on the menu based on ingredients that are local and seasonal. The prices are a little high but that's because the chef only chooses the best. I've never been disappointed.
Overpriced, pretentious c/w mediocre service. Save your money.
A very disappointing experience. Food is quite boring and the staff is horrific.
Food was good, service was quick.
Awesome room. Creative inventive food. Great service. Will come back again
Nope. Overpriced and dreadful.
Very small portions, bland food, very weak service. Group of six and you get to pay a 20 percent automatic tip. Place is a rip off. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere for sure. OVERPRICED hipster joint.
Yo, where’s the rest of my food?
Strengths - Great flavours and use of ingredients. They serve sparkling water. Weakness - small menu of choices for brunch My wife and I came here for Saturday brunch without the little one. We looked over the menu and really only two items in the menu contained protein (ie. Meat). I mean some of the items you can add bacon but it's really meant to be vegan. The fried chicken had great used of flavours and fresh incredients. My wife's sourdough came with smoked salmon and poached eggs. The item was also very flavourful except the sourdough was a tad hard. Portion wise I agree it's probably small compared to American restaurants (and some Canadian restaurants too) but I think it's just right. No point stuffing yourself.
Best food on Main.
The eggs were perfect and the fried chicken wasn’t bad! Super fresh ingredients! I was honestly a little underwhelmed by the portion size of the fried chicken.
Definitely a culinary experience! I wouldn’t recommend ordering more than one of any dish before first trying it. Portions were more generous than previous reviews let on. The gomae and asparagus were my favourites. Interesting wine list that you can have some fun with.
Great spot, small cozy and intimate. Will for sure come back, great food, fair price, great service.
They were gracious when we arrived without having made a reservation, and managed to fit us in before another group was scheduled to arrive. Loved the wine list, it had some different options. Ordered 4 dishes between two people, all were delicious. Will be going back!
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Excellent service.
Amazing tasting menu, incredibly fun team, and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend! Can’t wait to dine here again on my next visit to Vancouver.
~$16 for a small share plate, they serve family style so each person is supposed to order two items and share them. Price per person ends up running ~$35 before drinks and dessert. Food is okay, the fried chicken was my favorite.
Incredible food & service. Space felt safe, every detail was very thoughtful. Food feels like you're eating art. Can't wait to go back. Such a talented team!
One of the best restaurants in the city. Service and food consistently outstanding. Their tasting menu is incredible value.
There was a long wait (35 minutes) for a table for two people for brunch on a Sunday. I almost gave up (they originally told me it would be a 20 minute wait) but fortunately our table was ready by the time we walked back to check on our place in the queue. I ordered eggs benny on a gluten-free scone. I don't know if it was just because I was so hungry by that point but the food was delicious! The potatoes were really tasty! Prices were a little more than usual for brunch but nothing too out of line. I'd give it 3.5 stars overall and will probably try it again (but will make a reso next time!).
cozy restaurant with a lovely ambiance, great food - will be back again!
First time there. Awesome tasting menu with a few starter options you can add to your meal. Food great, service great. Server very knowledgeable in their wines and made excellent pairings.
Yo, where’s the rest of my food?
Came here for dinner last week with my friends and our dining experience was ruined by our cold and rude server with an attitude problem. They do sharing-style small plates and prices were steep for the small portions and quality of food (most dishes were overly salty). Overall abysmal service and mediocre, uninspired food. Do yourself a favour and visit one of the many other options in the area.
Amazing location with wooden walls and candlelight on the tables. We had the set 5 course Valentine's day menu with the wine pairings and it was perfectly paired. All of the courses we're extremely well done and the coursing order made sense. Get the beer pairing with the desert
Firmly and confidently ignore the philistinic reviews that have somehow missed the near-perfection of this almost unnoticeable local restaurant on Main St. We wandered in from the laundromat next door quite serendipitously. Well, not quite all on the universe's direction (we looked up the menu on the web). When was the last time you found Chowanmushi on an occidental menu? OK, the shaved fennel salad needed just a touch of salt; but everything else was lick-your-fingers OMG. I mean, even the cocktails were about perfect. For example, the Odd Society is a Vancouver treasure that hardly anyone knows about. They make a killer bittersweet vermouth that I can only buy in one place. Burdock had an entire Odd cockail that literally is as good as it gets. I don't know how to help the dissatisfied; but I can help the rest of you. The chef's name is Andrea Carlson. She wasn't even there, but her trio of sous were certainly competent in following her direction; and everyone there, including our server, Rachel was welcoming and accommodating. I'm writing this because there weren't enough you there, and when I come back to Vancouver I want that place, in place. Go! You'll thank me.
Very underwhelming experience. Service was great but the food was bland and overpriced. We booked because they had gf options but changed the menu that day, no indication on the web site that the change was coming. Also received attitude from the person who booked our reso which was an immediate red flag. Would definitely give this place a pass.
Super expensive for tiny portions. Way overpriced
Wonderful staff and delicious food. Well worth treating yourself. Enjoyed every dish from the tasting menu.
Unique menu, tasty and fun.
Food was incredibly delicious , portions were surprisingly large for th style of restaurant. Make sure you go hungry!
If you are up for an overpriced menu with tiny little portions, then you found your spot! What we ordered: Crispy chicken: ( $16) I got 5 minuscules portions of overly salted chicken sitting on a very thin layer of mash potatoes. I thought it was a joke. ( a bad one) Fennel salad ( $13 ) Looked like a lovely centerpiece! We weren't sure what the server had brought to our table,.. only we knew after we asked! T-bone ($56) Yes, $56.. it's just an under cooked piece of meat come with a sad and tiny piece of purple kale. Experience ($0.00) It's an utter fail! NO NO NO! They must be trying really really hard to be a high- end cuisine resto and they simply aren't there. Ah! and be ready to wait 15 to 20 mins to be taken care of because the only server runs from one table to another.. a couple sitting next to us left after waiting for more than 15 mins! Maybe chef Robert from Restaurant Impossible can help! i don't understand how this resto is still in business. Make your reservation at this resto if you want to throw money down the drain!
Incredible service. Incredible food. Can not recommend highly enough. Thanks for taking care of us!
Once again Burdock and Co. provided us with delightfully tasty, seasonally inspired farm to table, creative dishes. Excellent restaurant, excellent service.
Great atmosphere and nice food for sharing. Some of the dishes that seem like mains were quite small while others were large so be sure to ask your server for advice.
Great cocktails and service. Food can be hit or miss, more hits though! Only downside is the price - can get expensive for the quantity and quality of the food.
Come here for a tasting experience!
Great service, friendly and attentive...Jesse, the sommelier, is like a Jedi mind and palate reader - trust what he recommends, you won't be disappointed. Really comfortable atmosphere and the food is incredible; if you sit at the bar you get to chat with the chefs as they prepare your meal. If you want a real treat, try the bread plate..seriously, it's sooo much more than any other bread in this town, fresh baked each day by the bread chef, Greg. His bread is what real bread should be, slow fermented with a sourdough starter to develop flavour and texture. The simple salad is really good too, local foraged herbs and greens. We enjoyed the fried chicken and the halibut and for dessert a vegan peanut butter ice cream - again, trust me it's ridiculously good, and I am not vegan!
Every dish was unique and the roasted chicken stood out! The service was excellent-this restaurant is a new favourite on my list! There are only about 5 tables inside so book early in order to get a seat.
A great atmosphere, unbelievably tasty small plates with an excellent dessert to end the meal. Our waiter was fantastic as well. I can’t wait to go back and show this place off to more friends!
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. I wish the portions were only slightly bigger.
Good food and friendly staff! Definitely will be back!
I love this place so much. I have been eating at this restaurant since it opened and it has never disappointed. The brunch is great but dinner is exceptional. They use such seasonal local fresh ingredients. Lots of veg focus but also some great ethical meat/ fish dishes. This is one of my favourite places in the city. Also they have an amazing selection of natural wine. It is a small room so reservation is a good idea.
I didn’t appreciate the bartender (in yellow wearing glasses tonight) making a snide comment about our party when my husband went to the bathroom. She thought she was being funny, but obviously, we didn’t think so. It was rude and uncalled for....thanks, but won’t be coming again. Service was otherwise great and this is not a reflection of other staff there.
Very busy, but there is a reason why! Food is good and service not bad as well. Top 5 brunch in Vancouver
First time at Burdock & Co and would recommend and gladly go back! Super fresh tasting and interesting dishes. Every dish was thought out with care. The duck was delicious so much so that a few wasps wanted to get in on it too! We sat on the outside patio which was decorated very nicely and off to the side of the restaurant so you weren’t sitting on Main. Our server was very kind and added to the evening. Only critique might be we ordered 2 servings of bread which has 3 pieces each, and I think if we didn’t maybe we wouldn’t have been as full. But overall, happy to have this as one of my first dinners at a restaurant since the craziness of covid.
Burdock & Co has amazing food with even better service. Saturday brunch is a very busy time so either book ahead or get there early. One of the best brunch spots in Vancouver
Went there last Saturday for brunch. The eggs were wonderful. The buttermilk chicken and biscuits were tasty but I felt that I was given a child's portion.
Probably one of the biggest rip offs I've ever experienced in my life. Way overpriced and portions the size of my pinky. Service was aloof. The food was bland and uninteresting. Never again!
Outstanding food and service. We ordered the burrata and each had the course meals and left feeling full. Everything was delicious but hands down the duck was the best duck I've ever tasted. Usually with ducks they're overcooked or have that weird bird smell but theirs was just perfection.
I haven’t returned to this place for a long time and I regret not coming back sooner. Chef Andrea Carlson continually receives accolades for her cooking and it’s easy to see why. The 4 of us share all the dishes so we could each have a little of everything - great idea! The butter lettuce salad had unbelievable dressing; the crispy buttermilk chicken was good; the steak perfectly seared; and the pork belly was delectable. I will definitely come back for more!
Absolutely amazing service (knowledgeable and friendly staff) and one of the most delicious meals I’ve had in a long time! We didn’t realize it was a set menu and my partner has a lot of preferences (picky eater) and the chef’s on the spot adjustments made some of these dishes better than the set menu! I had a wine pairing with my set menu, and each wine was paired to perfection! It complimented every course so well, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our meal. This was our first time here and we had never heard of this place before, we will definitely be back!
Don't come here if you're expecting to; a) eat enough to be full for less than $60 of food- per person. b) have red wine... yeah, they don't have any. c) expect any decent kind of liquor. Small batch local garbage.
A tad pricy but it's a scratch kitchen sourcing locally as much as possible. Part of the cost goes to paying their staff enough that they can actually retain talent. Top notch service and quality. Guess you get what you pay for?
