A favourite location for date night for my girlfriend and I. They have a date night special for $60 that includes a shared salad (which is massive!), 2 mains and a shared dessert. I usually get the mushroom risotto, which is creamy, delicious and perfectly cooked. Last week, we got a spicy sausage pizza and seafood alfredo. Amazing portion sizes, great service!

Seemed from the outside to be a great place at Hamilton... top of the line, but at the end it looks like that they are only ready to keep their habitués, than making new clients. Our waitress, she didn't get that I wanted the Risotto Pescatore, and brought the Linguini instead. Bad as her ear was, her excuse was that I ordered from a menu that didn't have Risotto, so she assumed I wanted the Linguini. I had to eat Linguini, since I wouldn't wanted to hold my table companions. Stopped eating when found that a thin hair mixed within my linguini... I left 3/4 of the whole dish, but my waitress and nobody else, asked for what happened, or offer some other way to compensate their confusion. My point is clear: they were happy we paid our food and wine, and moved over. Probably had some local fans waiting. At the end, not good for making new friends.

I'm not sure Reservations here are mandatory but they are a good idea. We were an hour early and decide to drop in and sit at the bar and start the evening with a glass of wine while we waited for our friends to arrive. We chose from a lengthy and diverse wine list with many sold by the glass. Many more selections, great whites and reds sold by the bottle only. The place was busy. Bustling with energy, groups of guests having a good time talking and laughing, amongst themselves and with the friendly staff. The scent of great sauces and pizza. Dimly lit, just barely enough to read the menu. A small votif on every table. Everyone was drinking and eating. As if no one was waiting for their food to arrive. Well into their entrées or drinks. Looking around, there really wasn't a bad spot in the Multi tiered layout. Tables well spaced out. Probably room for 150, 35 or so tables and arrangements. We arrived at our table and ordered. The gourmet pizza was amazing, especially the crust. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Overall, this was a five star experience. As if they knew we were coming and knew what we wanted. Very affordable high quality dinning, A must visit!

Celebrated our son's First Reconciliation dinner at La Cantina. We were greeted by the lovely hostess and our favourite italian music was playing in the restaurant. Ambiance was great, food was delicious, huge portions of authentic Italian cuisine - compliments to the chef! Service was excellent and quick, our server Steve was wonderful. Food was good however the prices were somewhat exorbitant. I ordered the gnocchi gorgonzola, while tasty it could have fed an army, I felt like I was at Anton's in Vancouver: quantity over quality. The calamari I had was delicious and the pizzas everyone else ordered looked great. I just don't think I'd come back for pasta. Lovely atmosphere and decor. Temperature of the dining room was great and there were no bees, so that's a plus.

I LOVE this restaurant. It's a bit pricey but 100% worth every penny. The bar selection is quite good. I highly recommend the "French Martini" They go down so smooth! I always get the seafood linguini. Its by far the best I've ever had. I also recommend the mussel dish for an appetizer. So good. The staff are so wonderful as well! I will never turn down an opportunity to go to La Cantina!

Excellent Curb-Side Service: Excellent Italian Food Last night (May 21st) we ordered take-out for curbside pick-up. LaCantina is one of our favorite restaurants and their take-out didn’t disappoint! The food was hot and fresh and delicious. I had pasta carbonara and my husband had gnocchi with bolognese sauce plus we shared a large Caesar salad. I also ordered and picked up food for two of our neighbors for porch delivery to them. They had lasagna, rotini alla vodka and gnocchi Gorgonzola, and whole wheat spaghetti bolognese - both families raved about it. So delicious - and we all got very generous servings of LaCantina’s homemade bread. It was a fantastic Friday night dinner to kick off the long weekend. I was highly recommend curb-side from LaCantina to enjoy great food - can’t wait for the restaurant to reopen. Cheers! Great job LaCantina Staff!!!!!

I love this place. I had the Stracciatella soup and it was amazing. My sister had the mussles and I tried one - they were fabulous. The cesar salad was very good. The seafood pasta was chock full of seafood and my sister (the other one!) said it was great. Staff are very friendly and the restaurant itself is beautiful; on both sides! They have a fine dining and a casual dining room and both are lovely.

My first experience was a bit layered. My gf made reservations here for us 5:30 .We arrived 15 mins early and was greeted to unfortunate news, they apologized said they had a mix up and gave our seats away to another set of diners. But they offered us another time for 7pm. We were somewhat upset as we were hungry and prepared to dine but didn't make a fuss when we left. We came back at our newly appointed reservation time and was warmly greeted. They apologized We were brought to our seats and apologized for the mix up again. Our server was fantastic and really personable. I have lots of food allergies and he helped to ensure I had the information I needed on which foods contained which allergins. The food was fantastic and very authentic. The portion sizes are quite large. We both went home with take out containers. At the end of the meal when it was time to go and collect our bill they went so far above and beyond I was shocked. They comped our entire experience. One of the best restaurants I've ever been too, needless to say we'll be having more dinner dates here to support this place it's fantastic. I definitely recommend trying their authentic Italian dishes.

Really great food. A wide variety of Italian specialties. Very good attentive service. Expensive though. One draw back: the restrooms are downstairs accessed only by a set of stairs. Well appointed but not overly accessible. Use your cane and take your time.

Got the bruschetta con formagio and the bread was too toasted, almost burnt, had nothing special about it, very plain. Also had the chicken Cesar salad and the chicken was dry, the lettuce leaves werent cut small enough and the dressing had far too much garlic. The water was the best part of the dining experience.

I took my guy out for his birthday supper here. We made reservations so we could save a spot. Since we reside in simcoe we had a bit of a drive, we ended up getting to Hamilton much earlier than anticipated and we were 1.5 hr ahead of our reservation. We checked in and asked the host staff of we could sit at the bar and enjoy a drink before our reservation. They accommodated us and we enjoyed a hot Fireside coffee and my date had a Monte Cristo. both were SO good, very well made, sugared glass room with fresh whip cream, baileys, coffee too. Perfect for a chilly evening ☕ We also enjoyed a beer at the bar, Keiths Red Ale and red able on tap. Supper was great. My date had a sea food choice and i had the pasta and sausage dish with fresh black pepper. the wait staff was very friendly, engaging, checked in but not overly checking. The waitor we were assigned to had such a great sense of humour. He even recommended Olive oil and balsamic with a bit of parm. cheese for dipping bread. We have NEVER had that before and it quickly became our new favorite thing! The wine was very nice, fresh, potent. The good was divine. Great meals, seasoned well, pasta was fresh, cooked well, and beautiful flavours. The environment is more classy, romantic and perfect for date nights. The decor is really intriguing the restrooms are down a step flight of stairs, just be very careful what shoes you wear. The floors are tiled and heels can be really slippery, especially on the stairs ** we will def be coming back here. i want to ensure the front of house staff (who stand at the desk upon entering) get recognized, the staff was really friendly, accomodating, they asked us how our drinks were at the bar and thanked us for choosing the restaurant as it was our first visit. our waitor was really kind, funny, and overall the dining experience was 10/10 he msgd us laugh, made great recommendations, and made our visit even more enjoyable. ???? pricing is on the more costly side but for the drinks, quality of the food, environment, staff, and overall experience of this place, i would say pricing is fair and not overly expensive. coffees at bar were 12.50 / each beer 8.50 / each total for bar: est 52.00 $ MEAL Bread basket with olive oil dip, charcuterie board, fresh pasta seafood dish, fresh penne sausage dish, 2 9oz glasses of white wine (house and California zinfandel) total: 130$ for the great meal and wine Thank you for the wonderful evening. We will be coming back again!!

I went with a group of 9 people and we had a great time. The food was incredible with huge portions. I had the gnocchi with the Gorgonzola cream sauce with the encouragement from the server ( I do not enjoy that cheese normally) and it was amazing! We all went home with leftovers. The service was great, not rushed at all, and the staff joined in our fun. Looking forward to going back!

Food was not up to par and bad value. Not the greatest authentic intalian menu either with cheaper cheeses and the mozzarella was poor quality. An Italian restaurant should be using top of the line mozz. Bruschetta was a complete ripoff at almost $20. Pizza was way too salty and way to much cheese on bruschetta. Would not return here. Place has gone downhill so idk if they changed ownership or just lost passion for the food.

Our party came in to eat yesterday (Saturday, November 30th) and was very underwhelmed. We were a party of 9 so I understand that due to our group size it can be inconvenient for the kitchen and service flow, however there were many things that seemed to disappoint throughout the evening. Our server was kind, but perhaps very inexperienced. He did not introduce himself, struggled to remember the specials and seemed flustered throughout the service. The main course was ready before my Grandmother had finished her appetizer. Meaning that our server rushed her finishing the appetizer, making her very uncomfortable. She has partial facial paralysis making it very difficult to eat and by rushing her she was put on the spot. Additionally the mains were left to sit in the servery while he did the mise en place (placing the cutlery) for the second course. This meant that the plates were cold to the touch and the food luke-warm. Everyone in our party was fairly disappointed with the mains. The sheer volume of the mains do not make up for a) the lack of flavour or b) the pricing. I personally had the gnocchi and would tell anyone to avoid it. The sauce was congealed to a thick paste due to how long it had sat and the gnocchi was like dense rocks, not the soft pillows they should be. My partner had it much worse with the vegetable spaghetti, which was dry. There should have been much more olive oil on the dish to give it some moisture. As well, when ordering the charcuterie board, one would expect there to be some sort of cracker or crostini to eat it with. There was just meat/cheese/two olives/3 grilled vegetables and lots of kale/greens on the board and that was it. There was soft, complimentary bread already on the table which was nice, but wasn't fitting with charcuterie. One wants that nice textural crunch with the board. Overall everyone agreed that it was highly overpriced for the quality of food we recieved and no one would want to return for what we paid. A few nice highlights were: the Maker's Mule, complimentary bread and warmth of the hostesses. However it would not be enough to return. Save your money and try somewhere else.

Atmosphere was fantastic, the lasagna was one of the best I’ve ever had, prices are on the expensive side however they do not lack portion size or quality so I’d never have a problem paying for their food! Server we had was also very friendly and accommodating not to mention an accessible and cheap parking lot across the road which is a huge bonus for a downtown place!

Service was a bit slow but no fault of the server. We had booked a group of 12 days before but for some reason they were short staffed. However the food was superb and portions were gigantic. I had the Osso Bucco special and it was amazing. A large no montero us shank beautifully spiced and cooked to perfection showed up with another large plate of homemade pasta that was absolutely devine. Despite the service being good at best I highly recommend this place for a generous meal and fantastic quality. I would rank it 5 star if we had the proper service which I believe in most cases you would other days or night.

Bitchy entitlement issues, whomever the 30 something manager/server is, needs to be retaught the fundamentals of customer service. Huffing, puffing and taking no time to understand the problem, this person yelled at the hostess and her waitstaff before figuring out that she had created the problem herself. No apology when the situation was taken care of, in fact she made it seem like we were the problem. Pairing this tantrum with simple poor quality food makes la cantina the last place I'll ever go. Even the waitress who saw part of this whole debacle apologized, her name was rita and she was great. Sorry rita, while that other person is still there, I'll never go back.

I had dinner here with some friends prior to a Show recently and I very much enjoyed the service and the drink. Everybody else enjoyed the food served, unfortunately I had the gluten free pasta and it was okay. Finding an authentic Italian gluten free pasta is very difficult and it is up to the food buyer of Any Given restaurant to determine what level of importance they put into R&D. I've worked in restaurants and understand the fast-paced effort involved in their operation which doesn't often lend to spare time to research these types of matters. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for good Italian food.

We came with a large, and frankly boisterous party and the staff handled us with poise and grace. I didn't hear a single complaint from the entire table and the meal was, truly, incredible. Lunch today-haven't been for a few years. Caesar salad with chicken and pancetta and a diet coke. $37 before tip. Maybe half a romaine lettuce heart in the salad and 5 very thinly sliced pieces of chicken breast. Very disappointed. Patrons should not leave a restaurant hungry (which I did) when spending upwards of $40 for lunch. Used to recommend La Cantina...most likely won't in the future.

Wow! What an experience. As someone on a gluten free diet, it is difficult for me to find a tasty crust. La Cantina exceeded my expectations! I got the Pique pizza which included toppings of figs, prosciutto, balsamic and arugula. SO DELICIOUS!! I will definitely be back.

Although the menu says vegan options, it’s basically vegan by exclusion of ingredients in the regular menu … so it’s great if you like the custom / build-your-own meal approach, but not so great if you want a pre-envisioned, balanced meal or a vegan protein source/meat substitute. I feel like they could easily create a lentil Bolognese to fill the gap.

We've been going to this restaurant for several years. Have never been disappointed. The pizza is fantastic, the fresh bread each day is excellent and the pasta is generally excellent. Myself and my wife both prefer La Cantina over other nearby pizza/pasta competitors. Service is always great, and with a bar, lounge and formal dining area and patio, the sought after dining experience can always be found.

I absolutely love this place. We were on the patio due to Covid but inside is where it's at. Service, wonderful. Menu options, lots. Ambiance and comfort rate super high here. Their grilled calamari is amazing and if you like red wine, this one was spectacular. A long-standing restaurant that deserves a visit. I've already chosen my next visit's food because there's only so much you can choose at one time.

Came here for an anniversary dinner and we are beyond disappointed in both the service and quality of the food where do I start… I have never experienced this my entire life from the moment we first arrived at the restaurant the lady at the front desk thanked my boyfriend for showing his proof of vaccination by first name while I got a a plain and simple thanks with a very rude tone. I didn’t think much of it at first but I was just happy for our little celebration. But then it continued, any time I thanked our waitress for setting plates and glasses my mannerisms were ignored, but when my boyfriend did they were always followed by a you’re welcome. We waited over 20 minutes for our food and the table beside us had both their appetizers and dinner in a span of 10 minutes when they arrived 30 minutes after us. We had both ordered the carbonara and when we received them my meal was cold and my boyfriends was not. Then our waitress asked us if we wanted cheese. She said “tell me when to stop”, then my boyfriend was told “please tell me when the cheese is to your liking” although this is a small minor detail between a statement in a restaurant the man at the table was always treated with proper mannerisms I know this may seem like a small issue but I was quite upset by this and it ruined our dinner as we noticed the trend. They only made sure the man at the table was treated properly during the dinner and completely ignored the woman at the table because “the man pays for dinner and leaves the tip”. Not only is this sexist but it is quite offensive and derogatory. Ladies Beware! If you want to travel back in time this is the place for you, Who values women anyways! :) Side note the carbonara had no flavour, was cold and had hardly anything in (other then sauce and noodles obviously).

Had not been there in a long time, but was pleasantly surprised. Hostess left a little to be desired, very aloof...somewhat made up for it at end of visit. Now for the important stuff...food was fabulous, carpaccio was to die for and wine was exceptional. On this particular day, certain wines are 50% off...what a bonus (purchase by the bottle). Chef never disappoints....a little bit of Italy in downtown Hamilton...and parking is actually reasonableness...another bonus! Ciao!

I came here with my family - brought them for the first time for a very special dinner. It was the worst experience I have had and I come to this restaurant a lot with people I know. I have been here at least 20 times. Compared to other restaurants, this restaurant is not keeping up with the minimum expectations of any restaurant in its league. Better to go somewhere else till they get their experienced staff back. 1. Our server barely checked up on us throughout the evening. 2. We had to wait for a long period for our water glasses to be filled. To the the point where my guest had to ask for a jug of water that so that we could fill our glasses ourselves. 3. She came by during our meal and as we are still eating (plates are mostly full still) she asks us if we want boxes and my guest had to tell her “in a bit, we are all still eating our meals.” 4. We had to ask for fresh cutlery ourselves for the main course which we could see at the table beside us. They got their fresh cutlery before their main meal. 5. We had to collect our plates an cutlery ourselves and had to ask them to take away empty appetizer plates. 6. My guests drink was completely watered down. 7. Our food was cold. I order the same dish every time and this time I could tell my food was sitting there for at least 10 minutes and was very cold. 10. Presentation was not clean. 11. She did not thank us for our service.

Went tonight for dinner after being locked up with the virus. Staff was friendly and my dinner and husbands were good. Ordered a salad that never came..waitress forgot to order it from kitchen. Asked to be seated in a shady spot as we were directly in sun. Asked to be moved to a vacant table...sorry no...we have a party of 4. A couple came in and got seated at the table we asked for and waitress apologized as it was just this couple. Another thing I noticed was the hostess cleaned an empty table with nothing but a brown paper towel and nothing else. Don’t think I will be returning.

Had a nice meal (6 of us) out on the patio. Place was clean (COVID clean!). Food portions were very generous, but maybe a little bland and I think fairly pricy in comparison to other local Italian resteraunts (La Spaghett). Still good though. Our waitress was very nice, she was the only one out there on the patio. I found the service was slow though, my friend had to flag her down for a new drink and at that time she didn't ask if anyone else needed a new drink. No one asked if we wanted cheese or pepper with the meals either. Anyways, not a bad little place but a few areas for improvement. If I went again, I would probably only get the Pizza, it was great.

We had a late valentines day dinner here and from the moment we stepped in we were impressed. We didn't wait long to be seated and there was a server within mins to take care of us. Our food was delicious and filling. We ended up bringing a portion of our food home to enjoy at home. The only thing that made it a 4star was the speed of the food once we ordered. Given the fact it was very busy there were two other couples near us that came after us and were served their food before us.

Heard fantastic reviews and feedback about this restaurant and the food. Came in on a Saturday night, was seated and then ignored for 20 minutes. No drink order, no water, and no greeting or acknowledgement from wait staff. We decided to leave and gave feedback to bartender and manager. No apology or attempt to rectify situation...only excuses. I really wanted to experience this place, but I can't recommend it to others after this. May try again and change review if experience changes.

We were there on Saturday evening for a birthday celebration, had reservations. The food was amazing as usual, however the service was TERRIBLE! Our server, Rassell, was rude and impatient. Brought us water, then immediately asked us what we wanted to order, I guess drinks weren't allowed for us??? We then had to ask if we could order wine, which he then said sure. Once our food came, he was non existent. Never checked, never gave us a second glance. Cleared our plates, leaving mine without asking if we were done or if needed anything else. We then had to ask for dessert menu, which he then abruptly said we don't have one..... AGAIN we had to ask what the desserts were... He then stopped me and asked why I was talking to him like that...REALLY????? Im a paying customer who is paying a premium price for a good meal and service experience and he has the right to talk to me like that??? I actually told him to stop talking and listen so we could order dessert. We ordered Brulee, Tiramisu and a glass of red wine. Only the Brulee arrived and before we could ask, he was gone once again. When he finally returned, the brulee was done and we were done with the way were being treated. We informed him he forgot the tiramisu, and once again he abruptly left, before we could finish about also forgetting the wine... He tried to bring a complimentary tiramisu, but t that point we were beyond done! We asked for a manager's card and he brought us a comment card..... I myself work in customer service and strive to make sure the customer is 100% completely satisfied with their experience. He was condescending, confrontational and just plain RUDE. We have always had a great experience here, sadly this one was one that makes us not want to return. I emailed the restaurant directly and have had no reply, which is also left a bad taste.

I just want to say that we have been intermittent patrons at La Cantina for a few years.. This past year has been a serious strain on all restaurants. La Cantina was no exception, restricted down to only 10 persons. Again as others have.. We have been dining out more often than usual, but I must say that La Cantina outdid themselves. For New Years Eve we prebooked our dinner at LaCantina for takeout ( pick-up ). It went seamlessly, I parked, walked in and identified myself. Paid and walked out.. Good but not fantastic. I took my family for a special birthday celebration and while the service and staff were excellent, we all felt that the quality of the food was 3.5 out of 5 stars. We have been going to La Cantina for over 10 years and every year we see a decrease in the quality and number of items on the menu. The flavour overall was so-so, not a whole lot of wow factor. The quantity of the chicken to pasta ratio in the Vodka Fusilli just wasn't enough for me. The bruschetta has drastically changed from what it used to be, now it is large chunks of tomatoes and thick slices of cheese. The presentation of the food, drinks, service and patio location are all good but considering the prices we were underwhelmed with the food.

We recently celebrated our 3 year anniversary at La Cantina... Our last visit was 3 years to the day on our first date. What can I say, food was delicious and staff were warm and welcoming. This place is a bit of a local landmark and I would recommend a visit if you love Italian food. We always sit on the bar side, I believe it's the same menu however it's a little more relaxed. When we arrived we actually had the same bum ask us for spare change like he did 3 years ago, except this time he helped us snag free street parking! Too funny. We had a great night, see you again soon.

We have been here many times. Always great food and terrific service. We went there last night again and it was as good as always. They are very aware of celiac disease and handling food allergies too which is important for me. I had the Noce Tostate salad and it was incredible. Absolutely loved it. Absolutely amazing food and service (I wish I knew our servers name). I was at the restaurant with friends the evening that Michelle Obama was in town. You kindly squeezed us in early, which was perfect for us. It was so busy, but the food and service did not suffer, top notch! I can't wait to come back.

My husband and I love this place! Great ambience and the food is amazing!! Manager comes to your table to chat and make sure everything was perfect. Reasonably priced and huge portions. Service was excellent as well.

Went last friday for my birthday dinner was sitted on the fine dinning side the waiter didnt clear the take out that was left by the previous customer when the waiter arrived he immediately took the wine glasses and drink menu assuming we were underage after rudely asking for our id and what we want we had our glass of wine and starter well waiting for the main course i happened to see a cockroach climb into there clean glasses by the kitchen i informed our waiter of this and asked for the bill he didn't offer any sort of compensation worse $50 dollars i have ever spent

Everytime I go it is a fantastic experience. I have not one bad thing to say. Your staff are amazingly friendly and very attentive. The food is the highest of quality and the taste is amazing. The brushetta with the goat cheese (Molisana) is to die for and I recommend everyone to try it! I will continue to come as often as I can because I just can't get enough.

We had dinner here Saturday night for our anniversary and really enjoyed it. This restaurant is split into 2 sides - 1 is fine dining and the other is casual. We made reservations for the fine dining side and it was very comfortable. We had the jumbo shrimp and one of the bruschettas for an appetizers and both were incredible. We had the steak for dinner and the fusilli pasta dish. Everything was great. Our server was really nice and attentive. We will be back!

What a treat! The ambiance is fantastic. The menu a wonderful selection of Italian food. We had the Italian sampler and caprese salad to start, pasta arribiata for main. ALL of it was exquisite. The homemade bread is a great accompaniment. The service is attentive and engaging. A great dining experience. Definitely go here. A bit pricey but well worth it
