Beautiful food. Spectacular flavors and well presented. Servers are knowledgeable friendly and efficient. One of the best meals ever. My husband and I shared 3 dishes. All were prepared perfectly. Vegetarian fare is hard to find. They knocked it out of the park. The vegan cheesecake was the best ever. Great job Matt.

This is probably one of my toughest review. The dinner menu is like a tapas menu. The recommend 2-3 dishes per person to share. Like other reviews, excellent tasting food but the portions are very small. 5 stars for atmosphere, friendly staff and food taste. 3 stars for food portion.

Such great food to match a beautiful atmosphere. Needless to say exceptional service. I would highly recommend the fresh cheese and sourdough as well as the hummus and flatbread. All of the items on the dinner menu are delicious and are thoughtfully presented. An awesome restaurant for a date night or a social group as the dishes are catered toward sharing. All of the desserts are beyond exceptional - especially the "milk & honey". Will definitely make the trip back to try their breakfast and lunch!

The food was amazing! The service was perfect. At the server’s suggestion, we shared the four appetizers and two salads (avocado and the special) between four of us. Definitely order the Fresh Cheese and the Dumplings. We were a little skeptical of both, but were blown away. We’ve been meaning to try Berkeley North for a while, and are sad that we haven’t been here sooner. We will be back soon and often! So great!

I have eaten here dozens of times. Excellent service and presentation. Very flavourful tapas style dishes. However, I must say I'm disappointed by the removal of so many vegetarian options as the restaurant seems to have shifted to be more meat-centric. I understand adding more meat plates for mass appeal, but why at the expense of a long standing following of vegetarians and pescatarians in the city? Speaking on behalf of many who would like the old Berkley back.

Have been for brunch, lunch, and dinner and always satisfied. Most recently I had the 'create your own bowl' for lunch and it was amazing. There are also light and interesting cocktails. Portions not huge but good for me.

The decor is contemporary and high end, with an extensive drinks menu. This place serves very small portions of each meal option meant for sharing; the waitress let us know that it was standard to order 3-5 dishes for the table to share (each dish was between 10-30 dollars each, most of them hanging in around 14 a plate). My boyfriend and I got the eggplant (11), chicken skewers (14) and shrimp tempura (14). The chicken, maybe I’m wrong, looked and tasted spongey like it was processed or frozen. Despite that, it was charred and seasoned exceptionally well. The shrimp was slightly overcooked but the flavours again were great. The eggplant was excellent. Overall I’d recommend this place for work meetings/lunches, or a group gathering of friends. A little pricey for what you get in my personal opinion, but it definitely was a positive experience and something to try out. We will be returning to see if they have any menu additions now that we know how this place works!

With perfectly sized portions of only the best quality ingredients, Berkeley North offers a sensational dining experience. The menu for each meal is different, with the options allowing for sharing and tasting, as well as lighter personal meals. The prices come with a guarantee of only the finest ingredients; a smaller portion of what's better for you is a much more palatable option than a large portion of hormones and fillers. You can also look forward to the complex flavours of everything. Carl, the in-house cocktail connoisseur, will treat you with one of his many creations (Seriously, ask him anything. His Sazerac will make you weak in the knees). A great place for family, friends, or a solo lunch. The Webbers have outdone themselves, and I look forward to visiting again.

Hidden gem! I had such a great experience here with girlfriends this week. We had the avocado salad, halibut and the cheesecake and everything was amazing. I love that the food is locally sourced and super healthy. Their cheesecake is made with almond crust, cashew butter ? or some other healthy thing and I like it better than most cheesecakes. The servers were super friendly and the decor was great. I also recommend the bn Paloma cocktail it is insane!!!

Had high expectations for this restaurant after reading rave reviews. Was told the wait time would be at least an hour for pick up and came in before the hour time was up and the order was already made and ready. Once home we discovered all the food was soggy, cold, and did not meet our expectations. The only food that was not soggy were the pork dumplings, which instead were rock hard to the point they were inedible.

My friends and I had a wonderful first time, the ambience was cozy and the service was excellent. We shared the fresh pasta, mushroom dumplings, lobster salad, and artic char! This place changed my perception of what vegetarian dishes could be - they are well-balanced, hearty, and perfect for sharing. They recently added meat to the menu and last month's jerk chicken sandwich feature was amazing. I'll be back soon to enjoy more of the recent additions to the menu. Id like to give it another shot, i ordered takeout with the intension of a mushroom craving, but after takeout it, the mushroom dumplings were encased in a soy type sauce in a container, filled to the brim. The flavours were good but soy was way overpowering... douced in this sauce...salty.. I also got the mushroom chicken sandwhich with the choice of 3 sauces i chose barbeque, again sauce over powering, didnt taste any mushroom but could see the big caps inside. The chicken was fantastic, truely amazing but i just feel like....chill out on the sauce guys... *** i must remind u this is a takeout expierience, i feel like being on a plate the measurements will be more infavour to the chefs design so i do not write this review in intension of making run away from them, but solely id suggest dinning in, because the flavours are there.

Our server explained that the menu was created with the idea of ordering several dishes to share. Portions are WAY too small for sharing, unless they are expecting you to order at least half the menu. That being said, some dishes are quite expensive - 4 scallops for $22?! (Nothing else in the bowl except sauce!) Your bill is going to add up fast! We ordered three dishes, and two desserts....$100 later....we left barely full, and had to get a snack once we got home! It's a nice atmosphere, and food is definitely tasty...but they need to seriously reconsider their portion-to-price ratio.

My Girlfriend and I were here Friday November 3rd. I some how managed to book the wrong date for reservations but the hostess found us a seat. When coming here remember the menu changes frequently so don't be one of those people asking for the blueberry whatever if it isn't in season. At first I was a bit confused with the menu and the cocktail selection it was almost a Asian inspired Mexican blend. Luckily they are both my favorites. The service was absolutely outstanding . The food was remarkable, with lots of salt and sweet and something I cant quite put my finger on. The location in warm and cozy and a real mix of what i assume were parents and tables of people taking pictures of their food (you know who you are) but in a good way. Highly recommend

8 of us celebrated a birthday and the experience was wonderful. The server was warm, knowledgeable and a real professional. The food was amazing. Listening to the server describe the menu items demonstrates the care and passion invested in each selectuon..The tastes, textures and presentation all come together beautifully. Took a friend out for her birthday (group of six) - such an amazing experience. Did the tasting menu ($40 pp) and it was outstanding food: innovative dishes, great variety and we were stuffed at the end. The service was fabulous as well - I believe our server was Amanda - so friendly and patient with our big group. Will definitely come back! (Especially for the brown butter ice cream - I’ll be dreaming about that!)

Walking in the atmosphere was quite enjoyable, the live plant wall helped to set the environment as both trendy and relaxing. After ordering I enjoyed one of the best mocktails I can think of, followed by a meal that included fresh cheese and mushroom dumplings. Desert was this vegan cheese cake like option that left me wanting to order it once more. Deffently will visit again.

Berkeley North was a wonderful surprise and my favourite restaurant on the King William strip! While it is higher end and the bill can grow quite quickly, I would still highly recommend. The food is light, fresh and still extremely filling! My partner and I were so stuffed we needed to be rolled out! You can taste the love put into the dishes and the quality ingredients! If you’re looking to take a special someone out for a classy, cozy dinner- Berkeley North should be your spot.

For the first time ever we were not intrigued by the menu at all (personal preference...although the rib eye did catch our eye) so departed for another favourite spot. Went to Berkley North a few nights ago to try the $75, five course Prixe Fix menu. Although the menu is small (literally one page!) all of the ingredients were thoughtfully put together and artfully plated. My husband and I ended up ordering the shrimp toast, mushroom dumplings, duck salad, halibut and the Vietnamese dessert feature. All of it was amazing, but the mushroom dumplings and halibut were our stand out favourites. The service was super friendly and very knowledgeable. We loved the eclectic and modern atmosphere. Plus, that Prixe Fix menu is an incredible value. Kudos to the owner, chefs and wait staff on a great Hamilton gem. We can't wait to come back soon!

Had a tremendous first time experience here the other night. Food was both delicious and creative, with dishes I had not previously thought of, and fine takes on old classics. I was looking for someplace to celebrate my wife's birthday. She's is a foodie with some dietary restrictions. Berkeley North came up on top of our extensive search. The food did not disappoint. Innovative selections all very well prepared and presented with accommodations were made that didn't adversely the flavour. The service was excellent and pricing reasonable. Where this place fell down was it was cold and noisy. It was a cool windy night and we asked for a seat out of the draft. We were seated near he front by the large overhead door that opens to a small bistro patio. It was chilly. My wife spent the night with her coat draped over her. The red brick decor was charming but lack of sound deadening made conversation impossible. Orders were misunderstood and din of noise really put a damper on the evening.

Berkeley North is fast becoming a neighbourhood favourite of ours. Small plates for sharing and great service are what draw us here. Amazing food keeps bringing us back. Teriyaki Eggplant is amazing, Tomato Toast is a taste of summer during the dark days of winter, and Cumbrae's Ribeye is done to perfection - so tender it can be cut with a butter knife. We also love the ambience, that we can have a quiet conversation without shouting over music or other noise. Keep doing a fantastic job, and we'll continue to return!

Very accommodating to different dietary restrictions. Have been a couple times and the wait staff is always very knowledgeable on what is vegan, what has honey, and what shares a frier with non-vegan items. With that said both times have felt kind of mediocre about the food itself, some dishes being better than others. Had the cheesecake last time and it was a bit too much dates for my taste. Missed the graham cracker crust. Menu changes frequently so would be willing to try again and maybe just get better at knowing which plates will be less thrilling than others.

Went to Berkley North for the second time last night, in celebration of my upcoming birthday. We sat at the bar and had a lovely time with our bartender, who curated the drinks with great care. As for the food- absolute PERFECTION. You don't have to think too hard about it when you eat it. All the flavours are well balanced and cooked right as it should be. My boyfriend and I shared the Fresh Cheese and I had the Arctic Char. Melt in your mouth goodness!!!

Ordered takeout for the first time tonight and wishing we’d tried this place sooner. Partner had a fried chicken sandwich with fries while I had the Cali salad with side chicken. This chicken is everything my chicken-nugget-loving self wants in fried chicken. Fries were perfect. Salad was a great balance of sweet, savoury, crunchy, salty flavours between the dressing, topping, cucumbers, and beets. Berkeley North will definitely be on our rotation.

Really enjoyed our anniversary dinner there. We had a group of 4 and both ordered the $75 share menu. Favourite items were the cheese and shrimp toast, the fried green beans, duck salad and coffee ice cream desert. The steak was amazingly tender but too thin to be perfect.

Tried this place for the first time with friends for something different. It's a quaint little place on King William that fits in well with the other restaurants on the strip. The menu was a bit odd, a mismatch of asian, french and traditional. The best thing I had was the tomato toast, it was delicious. The 'tempura' shrimp was also really good, but I would not consider it to be tempura, more like just deep fried shrimp. The garlic rosemary fries were also good. Chicken balls were also liked by our table. Nothing else was notable. The deserts need work. The coffee ice cream while good had a very strange presentation with a bunch of mint leaves and a wedge of meringue. It looked stupid and was pretty annoying to eat. The chocolate cake was devoid of any flavor. The peanut brittle and ice cream were good. All in all, food was just ok, but not enough to justify the price you pay. The menu is muddled. They need to find their identity. The drinks menu was eclectic, so it would be a nice place for a drink in the summer, on their patio. The service was excellent. We were well attended for the entire night by lovely servers. Glad we tried it, but nothing struck me as wanting to come back.

Well I've been wanting to try this place for a while. Hamilton has becoming such a great culinary experience that I was quite excited about Berkeley North. Sadly it really didn't hold up, especially considering the other amazing restaurant options around. The good: Great service, good atmosphere and vibe, very aesthetically pleasing food. The bad: Sadly the food and the value. We ordered the shrimp salad, king crab and Arctic char tartar. First I'll say he shrimp salad was okay, fairly standard. Not much taste to the shrimp and all the flavour in the salad is in their fairly average coleslaw dressing. The Arctic char had no taste and was quite bland. The tapioca chips were more flavourful than the tartar. The kicker was the king crab... at 80$ a pound I had pretty high expectations and was sadly let down. Very bland king crab, minimal flavour. Best part of the dish was the delicious asparagus garnish. Honestly the food wasn't bad, but it was incredibly bland and subpar taste especially for the value. Would go for a drink as it has a good vibe but probably not return for the food. Of note the polenta fries did look quite good!

Is it possible to give more than 5 stars?? We went to Berkley North to celebrate my birthday and had a simply amazing time. My husband had the Black Bull cocktail and it was so delicious! (I had to steal a sip!) Carl, our server, took the time to explain everything to us and we didn't feel rushed at all. We ordered the cheese toast, the katsu sandwich, and the egg noodles. Each dish was so tasty and flavourful, I knew we would have to come back sometime soon. The dishes came out one at a time, and gave us the time we needed to savour and truly enjoy each one. The vibe in the restaurant was very relaxed and cozy, which we loved - I would recommend this restaurant time and time again. We will 100% be back!

Service and food was perfect! Our reservation was a bit late (like 5 minutes) and wasn't a bother at all to us, but they offered us a complimentary glass of sparkling for waiting. We were also seated pretty promptly. Our server was really welcoming, friendly and enjoyable throughout. We always had fresh water, clear plates, new cutlery and the flow of courses was great. First time diners at this place and we were not disappointed. Serving sizes are small and meant to be shared, so prepare to order 2 or 2.5 dishes per person. We started with Fresh Cheese (on sour dough toast) and the Mushroom Dumplings. We chose the Arctic Char and Ribeye Steak for our mains. Although not big dessert people we shared the Chocolate Cake (topped with a scoop of vanilla and peanut brittle). To boil it down to a single word, the food was fantastic. Dish pricing is a bit high. With our four plates, dessert, a bottle of half price wine and one mixed drink and a tea our cheque came to $150. Don't focus on the cost, it was well worth it. I would highly recommend getting a reservation (can call or book thru the website). We had a 5:15 res on a Saturday and it was packed by 5:45. Worthy of note most bottles of wine are half price on Fri & Sat between 5 & 6. The service was over the top. Our server Andrea was attentive (but never hovering), answered questions honestly and made us feel really welcome. We will definitely return.

Enjoyed an absolutely sublime and wonderful meal here last night with friends - reservations are definitely recommended as this small room fills up quickly, and 1st serving diners aren’t encouraged to linger - we arrived at 730 and our table was still occupied by 1st serving crowd. In any event, we were seated quickly, and then set forth on going up and down the menu. -I’m no particular order, I can recommend the eggplant ( addictive), the crispy beef, the fried polenta, the Arctic char (best I’ve ever had), the rosemary Asiago fries, the breaded shrimp, and the flourless brownie. Portions are small, but the richness and flavour of the food will leave you well satisfied. Gracious service and attention, and dishes arrived with proper explanation and changes of cutlery. An overall proper and well run kitchen cranking out immense flavours and combinations Korean/pan-Asian/Canadian,some nods to classic French . Highly recommended for an upscale dining experience in Hamilton. I’ll be back.

The tuna crudo was extremely disappointing. The fish was off colored and the ponzu sauce was disgusting. A gelatinous plate of overpowering saltiness that completely overpowered the taste of the protein. Mushroom dumplings were basic. I can't stand when servers try to hype up mundane food. It seems like they're trying to convince you it's good. Your food isn't that great.

Berkeley North presents an small but interesting collection of dishes which feature rarely seen flavor combinations that captivate the tongue. The settings is nicely decorated and the service was good. But Berkeley North is really just about the food. I especially liked the Fresh Pasta which was more like a dessert and the Shrimp Toast. If you're getting the tasting menu for two, it's not a bad value, although the portions are on the small side.

I had a really interesting and positive experience at Berkeley North! I went to eat there solo while I was in Hamilton, and a server didn't come to my table for quite a long time. I assumed it was because they thought I was waiting for someone else. I flagged down the hostess, and a server came quickly and was very apologetic. I ordered two small plates - the edamame dumplings and polenta fries. I felt the food was mediocre, but it may have been the dishes I ordered. I was offered a dessert on the house for the late service and ordered the chocolate cake, which was good. At the end of my meal, I realized I left my wallet in my hotel room. I told my server I would leave my phone and run to get it. She went to talk to the owner, who came up to me and said that because of the late service, we would call it even. They generously covered my whole meal. It was really the most remarkable service I've ever had in a restaurant and I surely think it warrants a trip back if I am in Hamilton again!

We were excited to try out this place since we're new to the area. It's a very cute, stylish, bright place and we felt like we would feel comfortable settling in for a long meal. One of us ordered coffee, and they brought one of those cute sand timers like the ones you use in board games to time the French press. We loved that and thought it was such a fun touch and creative idea! The sourdough toast side was delicious - great flavour, generously buttered which we loved, and not too crunchy or sharp as toast can be at a lot of restaurants. The flavour was excellent with fragrant herbs, salty, and the perfect amount of butter with no unmelted lumps. We loved the Berkeley North salad with falafel. The combinations of flavours and textures were excellent. Our favourites components were the pearl couscous, pickled carrots, pomegranate, and avocado. The avocado was a great level of ripe, and very thinly sliced which we found makes it more palatable in terms of texture and easier to eat. The pearl couscous added a soft texture to it and held the flavour of the lemon vinaigrette very well, which was refreshing, flavourful, but not too strong or oily. The pickled carrots contributed a great sharp and sour element, and the falafel was mouthwatering, I would just add a touch more cumin. We asked to have the salad split between two of us, which made the perfect portion size. We were very satisfied and definitely wanted to order that salad again. Someone else in our group ordered their B.L.T sandwich, and they loved it, especially the bread and the tomato jam. All of us were too full to look at a dessert menu but given how much we enjoyed our mains we would be interested to go back and try it for dinner or brunch perhaps. Although our server seemed a bit impatient at times, overall our service experience was good. The food exceeded our expectations and we would definitely recommend you go in and try their delicious menu options.

Went here for lunch with my wife. She had the BLT and I had the fish and chips. We went because of the top Canadian restaurant article/rating that we saw. The restaurant was extremely clean, including the restrooms. The water glasses and cutlery were absolutely spotless. So clean that I’m actually making a point of it. The fish was just ok (have had much better elsewhere) and the fries were good. The fish batter was a little soggy. The BLT was really good on the other hand. The Relay coffee was amazing. Despite my fish being a little soggy, I’m still giving a 5-star review as the atmosphere was awesome and my wife’s dish was just as great.

Went for dinner on November 3 and it blew us all away. We had the Duck Pate, Fresh Cheese Toast and fries to start with cocktails which were all delicious. The Duck Pate was especially tasty, we dipped our fries in it too! Next we all shared the Salmon Crudo, Duck Salad, Lamb Egg Noodles and Ribeye. A few things - 1) best steak I've ever had and 2) Szechuan. The Duck Salad and Lamb Noodles both had Szechuan pepper in them and wow. T makes your mouth tingle so delightfully. Loved the atmosphere here as well, they encourage sharing everything, which is what we did and it was a great way to experience everything. Service was great. Will most definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

We, a group of 4, attended Berkeley North recently. In short, it was less than acceptable. We had the sourdough and house made cheese, hummus, polenta fries, edamame dumplings and potatoes salad. To give credit where due, the dumplings were quite good, although they were far to buttery. Moving on, the potatoes salad was atrocious. An unseasoned egg with 3 prices of potatoe and unseasoned, burnt brioche 'croutons' amounted to a tasteless mess. The house made cheese was OK, but bathed in too much oil, while the bread that was with it was terrible, as it was clear that the restaurant opted for a trendy bread, rather than a well made bread. Then, they tried to cover up the quality of the bread by bathing it in butter till it was literally dripping. The remainder of the items don't warrant discussion, aside from a weird tinny after taste associated with the polenta fries accompanying red sauce. In short, Berkeley North is a clear attempt to make a trendy restaurant, with appropriate decor, service and pricing. However, they pale in comparison to a couple restaurants just a few doors down.

Had a reservation...thank goodness...as the place was packed on a Wednesday night. The shared plates that four of us experienced were super. Just ask your server what are the best ones and voila you have gourmet food as they make their own bread, pates and deserts etc. We had a desert that the chef had experimented with for over a month before releasing it to the public and it was just a mind blower in terms of taste. The food was amazing but our waiter Matthew made the evening spectacular. He let us know the specialties and described them so well we had to say yes and we were not disappointed. We were worried that we ordered too much food with two apps and two mains but he promised to pace everything. Started with the mushroom dumplings with ginger and scallions. Fabulous. Then had the Teriyaki Eggplant. Fabulous again. Schnitzel was on the menu but not available so Matthew proudly advised that there was a substitute Rib Eye sliced in a delectable sauce with tiny brussel sprouts and other tasty surprises. We realized we were then pleasantly satiated so we told Matthew and he asked if still wanted the 4th and final item, Arctic Char, that we ordered. We said no thank you and he said no problem. He could have suggested it was so good and convinced us but we didn't need the extra food. We will definitely be back and ask for Matthew to be our waiter. Started with a Blue Moon each and then a beer for me and wine for my partner. $100 + big tip. Very reasonable for an amazing dinner. Topped it off with Il Divo at FOnt Concert Hall. Doesn't get much better. Only complaint was that restaurant was full and quite noisy.

One restaurant where the cocktail menu matches how great the food is. I love how Berekely has delicious healthy options. The avocado salad is definitely my favourite. The atmosphere is very relaxing. If you haven't been yet, check it out !

Very disappointed. I don’t mind to spend extra money for their tapas style menu but here it was nothing special. The dumpling was good but I had better for half price in a good dumpling restaurant. The shrimp were ok but definitely not worth the price and the duck salad ... oh well...we decided to stop there. The service was OK, I am not sure the waitress had much experience. Anyway, for this price I was thinking of a very special experience but the overall feeling is they are having a laugh. There is definitely better restaurants, specially in this street or downtown Hamilton. And if you want a true modern take on a tapas/small share meal style, I would recommend « backhouse » in Niagara on the lake, definitely worth the drive.

Berkeley North is a true gem in the downtown area. Offering a tapas-style dining experience paired with a hip - without being overly-designed or cluttered - decor, this restaurant was everything we could have asked for in a dining experience (and it was an experience!). Service was fantastic (knowledgeable, attentive and friendly without hovering or making us feel rushed) and the mixed drinks (which a bit pricey and took a long time to come out) were beautifully crafted, unique and so so good. But the star of this restaurant is the food (as it should be with restaurants) Between 5 of us we shared a total of 11 dishes and 3 desserts. This was a bit excessive and we all left absolutely stuffed, but everything was AMAZING. Standout items were the Fresh Cheese on sourdough toast, Teriyaki Eggplant (I dont usually even like eggplant!), Avocado Salad, and Fresh Pasta. The coffee ice-cream was also out of this world. Would I return? In a heart beat.

Heard great things about this place. Because of COVID the patio was open so we went for 8pm to avoid the heat. By the time we got there they were sold out of 3 of their main dishes. Mushroom dumplings were way too salty. My salad had none of the ingredients written on the menu list. The only exceptional thing on the menu was their chocolate tort. NOTE: If you are into the sit down and pig out style of dining with big slabs of meat and potatoes this isn't the place for you. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Atmosphere was lovely, casual chic. Menu is simple and each dish is really a surprise which makes it that much more appealing. The tapas style dining is perfect for relaxing and enjoying some wine/drinks and conversation with friends with grazing style of eating. Our plates floated in as they were ready and it was a real treat to discover all the flavours and layered textures of each dish. We had 5 dishes between the 3 of us and it was satisfying enough. You shouldn't have to eat a lot to be satisfied. Hence my disclaimer up top. I was particularly impressed with the swapping out of dirty plates after a couple dishes so that the flavours of the dishes to come don't get mixed in with the others you've already experienced. Thumbs up! We had the mushroom dumplings (delish and flavourful), the teryaki eggplant (OMG SO GOOD), avocado salad (swoon worthy), shrimp was meaty and lovely and the fries were just right. Was a lovely evening with great gals celebrating my birthday. Will be back again!

I have eaten at BN a couple of time over the past 2 years and remember enjoying it very much. But this year, with COVID reopening, I dined on their street patio 4 times in 5 days. Each time was a fabulous dining experience. The menu is limited (this is a COVID reality for all restaurants and I totally understand why). I think we sampled everything on the menu and have yet to find anything we would not eagerly order again. And the cocktails - they are amazing. The servers and staff are warm, friendly and attentive. I am from Montreal (where restaurants are still not open). Could NB open a sister resto in Montreal please? (Wait until the circumstances are right but you would be a total hit).

Ok...before you get all bent out of shape that it is 3 stars, I have validation for this rating. We walked in on our way by looking for a place to have dinner. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Didn't feel stuffy. They were knowledgeable with the needs of gluten free options and explained the menu well. There were four of us and understood that the restaurant is essentially a tapas style restaurant, so we ordered a fair number of plates to share. None of us are large meal eaters so this seemed like a good way for us to try a few different dishes. The food was all delicious, but, and this is a big but, the portions are quite sad. Barely a bite for each one of us for each dish. We want to see this restaurant succeed and I am sorry but if you're in Hamilton, this just won't. We don't need an all you can eat buffet but seriously, amp up the portions and you'll get some return customers as the food is quite tasty.

My first visit, upon arrival I found my greeting warm and friendly, however when it’s extremely warm and humid a cold glass of water is much more appreciated than the warm glass I received. I was meeting a friend for dinner, we shared mushroom dumplings and tempura shrimp. The dumplings were tasty but not hot, the shrimp was large but had very little flavour. I had pasta which was good, tasty but a little too el dente for my taste. My friend had ribs, just a stack of meat , nothing with them. We flagged our server for a side salad that seem to take a very long time. It finally arrived and was probably the most tasty thing we had. Over all it was good… but for the money and expectation, it was just ok for both of us. We both agreed we probably would try somewhere else next time.

I'd heard good things about this halal burger restaurant. I got a lunch special of a beef bacon cheeseburger with fries and a drink for $11.50. My friends got the juicy Lucy and we split both. The juicy lucy cost about $10. It is a bit pricey but that's how much things cost in Cali so I wasn't shocked.

With a red brick wall, modern lighting, green succulent plants, and comfy booths, Berkeley North is nicely decorated and has a casual atmosphere. They have an interesting selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and there are half off deals almost everyday. Around 5:30 pm on a weekday night, the place didn't seem too busy, then more people started coming in as time passed and the restaurant became full after 6 pm. We ordered Teriyaki Eggplant, Mushroom Dumplings, Shrimp Tempura and Rib-eye Steak, and as two tiny people, we were more than full by the middle of last dish. We started with Mushroom Dumplings and it was nothing special. I wouldn't order it again. I liked the next dish, Teriyaki Eggplant. It was crispy, sweet and sticky with peanuts. It was the best dish for me. I would be careful in eating this dish, because it really sticks in your teeth. Shrimp Tempura was great. It's a tasty combination with the mayo. Lastly, I really enjoyed the fries that came with the Rib-eye Steak. The waitress told us that the steak would be cooked rare to medium and though I was warned before ordering the dish, I'd prefer more medium to well-done steak. At least my hubby loved every bite of the steak. The service was attentive and friendly. Overall, Berkeley North was a pleasant place to dine in and maybe I'd try their sandwiches next time.

Favourite spot! This place stands out in Hamilton and the staff go above and beyond for their guests. Chef John is incredibly creative and one can easily tell that he is very passionate about his work and the thoughtfulness put into the menu. The owners are like none other- kind, welcoming, and make you feel at home. Cocktails are the best in the city. This is the type of place where you will dream about the meal you had the next day.

We came in on a Wednesday night after walking by and honestly felt kind of like we stumbled into a dream. The restaurant is cozy but not cramped with a relaxed vibe. We loved the decor which was clean and fresh with a cool living style wall near the patio. Our waitress Amanda was friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. We split the tasting menu and a truly glorious bottle of wine (not telling because we intend to eventually drink them all!). The food was superb. We had the cheese toast which was beautiful whipped airy perfection on a deliciious piece of homemade bread. The teriyake egglplant take on fries had my partner in a complete love haze. The tuna with a beautiful bite of chili was my fave. We topped off mains with perfectly cooked ribeye and followed that with a cheezecake that was not at all dense or heavy so perfect for our tastes - also vegan! Every single bite was delicious. We were both full from the tasting menu and felt the price was very reasonable. We had gone out on a whim celebrating a move to Hamilton and feel even better about our life choices knowing this place is now in our neck of the woods!

This was the best overall restaurant experience I have had in a long time. Our server Grace introduced us to not only the menu which is meant to be shared as a family style appie dinner, but also her knowledge of each dish. We had tasted none of the beautiful food this restaurant had to offer before ,but loved every bite. Cannot say enough good things about this experience. Charming space. Lovely staff. My family and I just had the most amazing meal from berkeley north! I went down to pick it up and couldn't have had a better meal. We ordered the four sandwiches from the berkeley bundles and grabbed some salads, fries which are unreal, chicken skewers that had amazing flavour and the shrimp tempura which as an experienced foodie is the single best app I've ever tried agreed upon by the whole family. This has always been a restaurant our family enjoyed and we're extremely impressed that the ultra high quality is exactly where it is for takeout as it was when we last dined in there!!

We are regulars at Berkeley North, it’s easily the best restaurant in Hamilton. Fresh, local, quality ingredients, thoughtfully prepared and presented. Menu changes seasonally, and we’re always stoked to try their new offerings. Cocktails are just as passionately prepared as their food. Very consistent, and the service is always exceptional. Good atmosphere, comfortable seating and minimal, but trendy interior design. We pretty much order everything on the menu each visit. At the moment, the teriyaki eggplant, and tuna crudo are the standouts. Will keep coming back, and highly recommend to those with a discerning palette, looking for high quality ingredients.

First time at this restaurant for lunch today and it was quite good. Both of us tried the BLT on sourdough bread which was flavourful and just right in portion size, greasy and they should bring finger bowls with lemon. Also I opted to have the featured soup, Vegan Tomato. Leaning heavy on the tomato today for my selections. The soup was very hot and I had to alternate between my sandwich and the soup but it only cooled off slightly. Definitely hot and tasty too. The lunch menu is straight forward and uncomplicated making it easy to choose your items. Maybe unremarkable deems it to be added to the list of 100 Top Canadian Restaurants, or we're like the British and prefer to talk about the weather. Friendly staff, clean, uncluttered room with the ubiquitous open kitchen. Nice surroundings. Wish Hamilton would hurry up and complete the transformation in this neighbourhood. Plenty of pay parking lots or metered street parking available. Hope to dine here again. $70 with wine/2

Berkeley North deserves a 12 out of 5 star rating! Hands down one of the overall best dining experiences I've ever had. Recently, I met a beautiful young lady from an online dating app in Hamilton for dinner and the atmosphere from the moment we stepped in the front door until we left was remarkable. Our server was Grace and her attitude, demeanor and sincerity was just amazing. She was accommodating {your secret is safe with us ;-) }, patient and very knowledgeable in regards to the menu. The food was cooked perfectly and the presentation was Master Chef worthy. Without question, the coffee was fantastic (even my date noticed my facial expression change with my first sip) AND it comes with an actual sand timer -- So cool!! Also, they do something so very clever, (yet obvious) that I've never seen before when they bring the bill. Just overall impressed with this establishment. Ask for Grace! She's a perfect balance of attentive and fun! Berkeley North set the tone for our evening! This was the perfect beginning to probably the best first date I've ever had!

We were first time diners today for Sunday brunch. The place is contemporary and cozy, the menu is different - interesting. I had eggs -Benedict with cheese and spinach and my wife had veg tacos, both outstanding. The drinks are creative and tasted really good...All these at very reasonable price. The whole family -- 14 of us spanning three generations -- went there for a celebratory dinner. We ordered the food ahead of time. I wouldn't say the food was good -- I'd say it was fantastic. We had about 5 different appetizers, and each one was better than the previous one. The asparagus salad was magnificent. One of the main courses was steak. It was so tender we didn't need steak knives. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only downside is that the wines are a bit on the pricey side, but all in all, the meal was well worth the price.

What an experience. We had a tasting menu and the flavours were absolutely out of this world. They even brought out a few items they were working on that aren't currently on their menu. The service was great and it was nice to see that the beer they had on tap wasn't your regular moose water. They branched out from doing only vegetarian dishes, but don't kid yourself, they made something as simple as beans taste like you wouldn't believe. Great location, a great feeling to the restaurant, it really makes it feel like you are welcomed. I would say a few other draft options from some hard hitting local breweries, but I would stay for the food over the beer any day.

Lots of excellent reviews here, but the evening we went we found the food underwhelming and over-priced. The duck pate was fine, but not remarkable. The albacore was okay, but I've had better. The schnitzel was decidedly overcooked. All the portions were small, which is odd since they claim they are meant to be shared. Overall a fairly unsatisfying meal. They do have a good drink selection and the service is excellent.

We had the falafel, dumplings, potato and cheese & sourdough bread dishes, as well as cheesecake and chocolate cake for desert. The quality of the various dishes ranged from great to OMG. Seriously, the best meal we've had since visiting NYC. Great service, and my only complaint is that I didn't let my wife talk me into ordering more dishes. Next time.

Pros: Good/great taste. Fresh ingredients. House-made sour dough. Cons: sour dough comes out BURNT as default. ( ask them for lightly cooked ones. WAY BETTER) Bit pricey but fair given the atmosphere and the type of restaurant that it is.

Service was excellent, but food is mediocre at best. Menu has potential, but the cooking isn’t right. Until then, head next-door to the French where they have control of their menu and it’s executed well.

We had the tasting menu, $75 for two people, five courses. Generous portions and very tasty. Some of the menu descriptions don’t do the actual meal a service, cheese toast is actually homemade Burrata-like cheese on homemade grilled toast! Wonderful. The only slight disappointment was the main meal, a rib steak with French fries. The steak was VERY thin and not the highest cut. The fries were wonderful. Our dessert, homemade bourbon ice cream with toasted pecans and Carmel sauce finished the evening off on a high note.
