Nice little café place to read book, it has the vintage atmosphere and relax vibe. The only thing I am a bit disappointed is the service. I came here very often and some people serve me well and others, they don't want to serve me at all. I think in this modern age we should maybe learn thing or two how to serve a client and maybe it will help more the place to bloom. It deserves it. Thanks
There is an enticing combination of smells ranging from freshly ground coffee to used books. A great spot to enjoy your morning.
Lovely atmosphere, lots of books, but honestly, a bit expensive for used books, starting at $8.50 apiece.
Quaint little bookstore and cafe in the South end across from the Westin Hotel. A nice place to grab a coffee and find your next read.
Great, laid back bookstore/cafe with good jazzy music playing, excellent coffee and a decent selection of books. Great find!
Very good coffee, nice and quite space that is very comfortable to sit and relax. friendly classy staff as well. Hidden gem!
Cute shop, but service was not very friendly, and the 60 minute seating limit gives it an even less inviting vibe.
Fun vibe and quaint atmosphere. Good coffee.
Books, coffee, history and water .. The perfect place in Vancouver to relax with a cuppa something hot and fresh.
Nice quiet place surprisingly next to those big trucks, delightful teas and treats, and more. Love revisiting the place like and old friend.
Delicious pies and cuppocino, cozy atmosphere, great music
I only recently found Trident through a coworker with great taste, and HOO BOY do I feel like I've been missing out! A fantastic selection of books for sale, super comfortable atmosphere, coffee roasted on site, hilarious and charming staff... I could go on! They are also one of the few coffee shops in Halifax that always has gluten free and vegan baked good that aren't exclusively muffins(although Trident's muffins are delicious too)! I'm officially becoming a regular.
Nice atmosphere. lovely drinks. Had the chai latte- mild, but sweet. Great price. Great experience ????
Great atmosphere. Loved their cappuccino with double shot.
"Café" is a stretch. If you try to read anything in this store, or make any inclination that you came to relax instead of giving them money and getting out, they (specifically one man, the owner I believe) will *accost you* and ask you, not so politely, to leave their store. They want your money, and they want you the hell out. The boss/manager guy schmoozes loudly with his regulars, so you get the sense that you're not welcome if you're not his friend. I have been harassed multiple times because I was taking my time looking through books, and he's told me that I should "be a gentleman" and leave his store to make room for the people he likes. It's great if you just want to buy a book and go. Beware of trying to relax or unwind.
God the coffee is amazing. They roast their own in the back. Also, they bake daily!
Most excellent! Very, very good espresso prepared and served as it should. Roasted onsite. We also had their mini pies which had a wonderful crust. I also learned that they are also made on site abviously by someone who knows how to do it. Highly recommend!
This is a absolute an awesome place and I like it so much!! It makes me find the feeling here as in Shanghai - seat with books and a cup of coffee in a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon!
Coffee and cookie were fine. Judgemental and recriminatory tone of the barista was off putting. She did have a good cookie suggestion
It was ok; nice quiet spot for a conversation. The sign said “Special: Hot Apple Cider” but they were sold out; she offered a chai latte which was ok (quite peppery if you like it that way) nice oatmeal raisin cookie/ oatcake. I fee like COVID has impacted their game somewhat - sign said “please stay only 30 minutes”… we stayed longer as it wasn’t busy... best thing about this spot was that the account is permit a decent conversation.
Nice little Cafe. The batista was very nice and made some great coffee. The book selection was cool.
10/10. Great coffee, huge selection of intriguing and delightful books for every taste, lovely staff, excellent coffee, and the best vibes. It feels like its own little world. A must-visit for sure.
There are very few places I've been that, when I order a tea, I actually get a steeped tea rather than a cup of hot water with a tea bag, and not only did they offer steeped tea, they had a great variety of loose leaf teas. Three dollars gets you a pot of tea and it was some of the best tea I've ever had. The bookstore part of it was great as well. Of course, given the size of the store, of course the selection was a little lacking, and it took me a while to find a book that seemed both interesting and one I haven't already read, but then again, everything is so tightly stacked that I would not be surprised to go back and find I overlooked a hidden treasure.
Quaint little coffee shop with a great collection of second hand books.
Great coffee! Good place for a date or just to relax with a friend or two over a cup of coffee and some books. I would just say some of the tables are too close to the bookshelves which makes it hard to browse books when someone is sitting at the table right next to them -- I'm thinking specifically about the table towards the left when you walk in, which is surrounded by bookcases. Maybe the bookcase configuration could be altered slightly to make browsing easier even when all tables are being used.
Loved the cozy atmosphere and the great coffee and food! One of the best kept secrets in Halifax! My new favorite spot!
Friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere, decent book selection
Good coffee, good books, comfortable atmosphere, excellent customer service.
Fantastic coffee and baked goods. By far my favorite cozy spot in the city of halifax.
A great place to have a coffee and a chat. The books cover diverse subjects and are typically the kind of rate finna you won't find in a big bookstore.
Amazing coffee, honestly great. Plus a great place to hang out and get some work done, or read a book.
This is my favorite coffee place in town and they're never too busy. They roast their own beans in house and have amazing sweets. A definite must if you like a strong coffee with a chill atmosphere.
Sweet coffee shop with used book store. 1h lingering policy at this point. Understandable, but still a bit sad.
Very nice quaint coffee shop. Probably one of the best Cappuccino I've had. Not ideal for remote workers since the table limit is 60 minutes, but the owner was very lenient on that number. Ended up working there for about 3 hours (with owner's permission).
Good coffee and solid baked goods, which differ in quality and variety than those you’d find at most coffee shops. Highly recommend the pistachio cake. I’d deduct a point because the service is often not very warm and fuzzy like I’m used to from most cafes. Great selection of books too.
Nice little spot, books are in good condition, some have worn covers/spines, and around 3/4 of new price. Coffee is good and atmosphere is lovely. The owner isn't very chatty but is nice and cares about the place and the drinks. There is a 60min sitting down limit right now because of covid.
Awesome atmosphere found some great books here, and the espresso was great!
Such a lovely little cafe! I've only been in a few times, but the staff are always really sweet and they know their trade. The coffee is ????????????????, and the atmosphere is just so quaint and cozy. I can't personally comment on the treats since I havent had any, but I've only heard good things. Be wary if you need an outlet though, I think there's only one accessible outlet in the whole place. Overall a top notch cafe!
Cool concept for a store :) good general selection of second hand books for a great price! Easy place to spend an hour with a coffee and looking for a good read!
Loved the book selection. Stayed for ages with a perfect café au lait and a homemade lemon tart! Great atmosphere and service.
Checkered floors. Used books up the the roof. Freshly roasted coffee in the air. Delicious baked goods. What more do you need from a coffee shop?
A lovely little used book store with a pretty decent selection for its size, and fantastic coffee. A lovely place to spend an afternoon in Halifax, sipping delicious coffee while reading the book you just bought.
Amazing coffee...freshly baked cookies...books all around...you can't get more than this!!! The owner is also warm and courteous....He gave us a tour of their kitchen where they make their own coffee and bake their own goods...A must visit place for a book lover.
This little coffee shop doesn't have the market presence that someplace like Starbucks has, but it makes the best coffee in Halifax by far.
This small coffee shop has its charms and the atmosphere here is warm and joyful. The books on the shelves really make this café shine. It is a rarity that a café has become the lead character of the show because normally, we have a book repository before we have a coffee shop.
One of the cosiest coffee shops in Halifax. Books, homemade oatcakes and atmosphere.
Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. I love this place so much, the music they play is so good. The baked stuff is delicious and fresh.
Absolutely beautiful place. Took my girlfriend to read together and also catch some good books. Had a tea while my girlfriend had a cappuccino. We had a beautiful time.
Our coffee place in Halifax. Service is good, good selection of pastries and coffee is excellent.
Classic bohemian coffee shop with a great selection of books.
Great selection of books and excellent coffee. The staff are also great to deal with.
Favourite coffee in the city. I aways find excuses to go out of my way to go here. I buy my whole bean for at home from here also (cant recommend enough). Favourite place to catch up with a friend, and it's a wonderful bonus to have books to browse through!
Today was a first for me at a cafe, despite doing regular work at them for 25 years. I was asked to leave after 1 hour because they were trying to “turn over tables.” Not only was I asked to do this, but I was asked to do this when there were already empty tables. My order was substantial, and I came to the Trident Cafe to work. If you are putting a time limit on customers I would suggest putting it on the front door so that patrons understand what they are supporting when they come into your establishment.
Amazing cafe with great atmosphere. A must if you're in Halifax. Coffee is great, food is delicious, personnel is extremely friendly. Sitting among all the books just feels great. Try their quiche, it's delucious.
Delicious coffee and a cozy, homey atmosphere, shelves overflowing with books with soft corners and loved pages and all available to read or to buy.
Quaint atmosphere, great coffee, great book selection.
Something about the smell of coffee and used books is just awesome. Big collection of books. You won't find everything you would at the book store, but I was able to find a few books that I've been wanting to read.
Cozy and calm little spot. Nice book selection and excellent coffee
Nice little café which is also a bookstore. Relaxed atmosphere with good oldies music playing in the background. Although there is no Marzocco coffee machine (which I am a fan of), the coffee is pretty good.
An absolute favourite of mine in the Halifax. Good coffee, books to browse, and if the lemon tarts are available make sure to get one.
Great little cafe for students. If you're looking for a moderately busy place to study and drink coffee it's a really decent place to go. It closes a bit early, but great nonetheless.
Hidden gem of Halifax-always great food and drinks and wonderful place to find a new book or have a quiet study session.
Very helpful staff. Found what I was looking for within 5 minutes
Delish cider! Very cool place to enjoy a hot beverage!
Lovely shop and shopkeeper. Very good coffee and a just right sized selection.
Good place to enjoy a delicious coffee, cozy and a great selection of second hand books, the staff are very nice and gentle.
Went there for the first time the other day. Part book shop, part cafe, I really enjoyed the aesthetic. Their prices are a touch lower than other places, and their menu costs include the taxes. They have some baked goods, these vary among vegan, gluten free, and regular options. Depending on the day, your selection will probably differ. For dairy selection, they appear to only have three choices. Soy milk or almond milk, which are extra, and the standard milk that they use. I got a mocha which was incredibly delicious. My friend got a chai latte, and it looks like they make that chai mix in house too. I say it's worth checking out, and they have my business. I would just like different milk options such as coconut or oat milk.
Great snacks, with gluten free and healthier options. Great coffee, always fresh. Nice atmosphere. Too bad they close so early though or would be able to go more often.
I love this place! The best Espresso in town.
Good book selection and terrific Cafe!
Rude staff. Refused service for wearing a nonmedical mask.
Perfect spot to enjoy tea time, very unique from most places although I felt it was a bit cramped.
Delicious coffee and a good selection of used books all near the harbour... what's not to live?
Really love this place. Had my first ever latte here when it was on Argyle. Nice, a bit old fashioned, coffee house and book store. Don't often buy physical books any more, but always come here once or twice when I get to Halifax. For a latte, a couple of oat cakes, and to read one of the copies of the New Yorker they have on hand.
Sweet little spot, best cappuccino and lemon torte book treasure
Good coffee in a very nice atmosphere with a decent sized selection if books. Really nice cafe experience.
Absolutely charming, went there to browse the books. If I lived there is be a regular.
Great coffee, supreme baked goods including gluten-free and efficient friendly service.
Came one morning on our trip for a double cappuccino and oat cake, and was so charmed by the checkered floors, cozy walls of books, perfect cafe playlist, and of course, delicious coffee that we came back three days in a row. The quintessential coffee shop, in my opinion. Just perfect.
CAFÉ: Very yummy baked goods and well made espresso drinks. They roast their own coffee, which likely contributes to how great it is. The back room is notoriously quiet if you want to hideaway somewhere familiar. BOOKSTORE: Worth checking in on the selection here every two weeks or so. Dominated by a large wall of mass-market paperbacks and spirituality texts, though there is a nice rotating selection of literature and good non-fiction in the back. Good taste in poetry, though slowly updated (which may be a problem of the crowd bringing books in rather than the shop). Patient and consistent browsing can pay off in a big way at this store.
