The preeminent restaurant per se...not just "Italian" restaurant...in Halifax. We have been going to Da M for many years...it always delivers exceptional cuisine...but the whole experience is great (service, atmosphere, etc).... Unconditionally recommended.

What a beautiful historic building to first talk about this. Really adds to the finer dining because the atmosphere was wonderful! Greeted immediately, jackets taken drinks ordered in minutes. Fine dining for a reason. Hostess and our server were wonderful. Ok ...the meal was incredible. Ordered from fixed menu..Panko haddock and Chicken. Mussels, and meatball for appetizer(not just any meatballs). Dessert was pumpkin cheesecake and apple cake. Again the attention to detail. Must try. Oh If you like Lime..try the Basil Gimlet!! This restaurant on my top 5 for Halifax.????

An authentic fine dining Italian restaurant in Halifax. The menu has classic dishes and they offer set meals as well. The portions are very filling and are made with high quality ingredients. I loved the tiramisu. A great place for a romantic dinner, or for an important function. Top restaurant, and a must eat for italian cuisine enthusiasts. The prices are a bit higher than average, but totally worth the quality and quantity of food you will be getting.

Got a candle on my desert but not even a happy birthday let alone a complimentary coffee. I didn’t eat my dessert but nobody cared to ask why. It’s good but for such a high end niche I felt better treated elsewhere.

My wife and I had a dinner at Da Maurizio yesterday. What a good surprise. It was very busy, what usually is a good sign. Yes it’s was very good. The service was very good. Sean took care of us, he was very agreeable and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the calamari as starter and the Braised lamb shank with mushroom risotto. It was delicious. Great service a great food. Thanks to the entire staff.

We were visiting Halifax on a business trip and booked this restaurant because it is well rated. What a disappointment. The restaurant was not busy yet we waited at the door while staff went back and forth(yes, we had a reservation). The hostess saw us yet ignored us. I thought this a bad sign and wanted to walk out which is what we should have done. Service is slow, one woman who appeared to be the manager was ok but the hostess and waitress were terrible. It might have helped if we had stayed in our business clothes but really, why shouldn’t all guests be treated well no matter how they are dressed? Was it because we look like tourists? Food was just ok, the mussels were sour, and we left most of them. Nothing special here. A two star restaurant that thinks it’s a five star and is doing its guests a favour. Won’t return here when we return to Halifax. It’s too bad because all the other restaurants we ate at in Halifax were absolutely amazing.

(Translated) This store is very particular, and the service ecology is very considerate and sincere. The location of the store is not easy to find. It's near Kirin. You need to enter the winery to find a staircase-like entrance to go upstairs. I ordered a macaroni, its sauce is very mellow, the combination of the two is perfect, the macaroni is just right, not so hard but very chewy, and the good cheese makes this dish even more outstanding . The roasted foie gras in this restaurant impressed me the most. The most amazing thing is that this dish is oily, but not greasy at all. It will only leave a fragrance in the mouth. A piece of bread is spread under the foie gras to relieve the greasiness. The main course ordered a beef loin steak, the steak is about a cube shape, fried to the outside and tender on the inside, the center is pink, topped with special mushroom sauce, rich and fragrant. For dessert, there was a snowball smoothie that was delicious and fragrant, and I ordered a hard-shelled dessert, which tasted a bit strange, but it was also good. 80+ per capita (Original) 这家店非常的讲究，服务生态度很贴心很诚恳，店的位置不是很好找，在麒麟的附近吧，需要进那个酒厂里面去找一个楼梯式的入口上楼。点了一个通心粉，它的酱料非常的醇香，两者结合的很完美，通心粉的软硬度正好，不是那么硬却又很有嚼劲，配上上等的芝士让这道菜显得更加出众。这家的烧鹅肝最令我印象深刻，最神奇的地方就在于这道菜油很多，但是一点都不油腻，嘴里只会留有香味，鹅肝下面铺了一片面包来解腻。主菜点了一个牛后腰steak，牛排大约是一个正方体的形状，煎得外焦里嫩，中间是粉红色，浇上特制的香菇酱汁，浓香扑鼻。甜点的话，有一个雪球沙冰很好吃，很香，还点了一个硬壳的甜点，味道有点奇怪，但也还不错。人均80+吧

Upon arriving at Da Maurizio's last night we were greeted by a lovely hostess, who was very kind and attentive. However she seated us near the busy kitchen and aisle way. We asked to move and were seated at more intimate booth table. I knew there would be changes, due to the pandemic, but not as major as what we experienced. The prices were half of what they usually are, and the quality and portions reflected that greatly. I had high expectations from our parents telling how amazing this restaurant was. I expected fine cuisine. I came home from out of town and experienced what I can only say as medicore. The waitress had zero knowledge of the menu. Some of the pasta was very good, some of the pasta could have easily been made by Chef Boyardee. I wish I loved it, because I really wanted to.

My partner, and two friends dined here last night. Our server Sean was incredible, friendly, fast, knowledgeable, and quick to fix some issues (there were a few that were quickly taken care of quickly. I enjoyed the steak appetizer, as well a mushroom chicken pasta dish. The wine pairing was fantastic, and for desert the gelato was 10/10. Can't wait to come back, a fantastic experience from top to bottom.

I don't do fine dining very often so when I do, everything from the food, service, location and attention to detail is very important to me. I made a reservation 2 or 3 days beforehand and I asked if they ever had fresh oysters. It isn't on their menu so I thought I would just ask. The answer was not usually but they would try to have a dozen oysters on the half shell for me (no promises of course). When our party of 2 arrived we had amazing oysters! They were so good!!!!! Thank you to the chef and staff who made that happen. Everything was wonderful, the food, the ambience and the service, again thank you. It is a tough time for restaurants during covid and my heart goes out to all of them. I recommend reservations and trying to go during less peak times.

Ordered a 2015 Vintage wine, bottle kept by server and when I asked for it,saw it was 2018.Manager said it was because they never know what will be available at store. In other businesses this might be considered false advertising but in this restaurant it is par for the course apparently.

I went here recently and I was disgusted on how me and my guests were treated from the start of dinner to the end. We waited over an hour for our food and was so many contradicting things on how to order that it was almost a joke. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table and before we got the wine, the wine glasses were removed. We had to remind the staff that we order a bottle and were told "oh you still wanted it?" the entire experience was a joke. I was embarrassed for being the one to recommend this restaurant. Will not be coming here again. Oh and the host/manger (some higher up staff) just blamed other staff for the problems instead of owning up to it and apologising. I do not believe in putting others down to raise yourself up and that's exactly what happened. Again, I was extremely disappointed from the moment I got there until leaving.

I don’t write many reviews, but when a place makes an impact on me I like to share my thoughts. My wife and I enjoyed our 12 year anniversary at Da Maurizio and we wouldn’t change a thing. The atmosphere was nice, the waiter was accommodating and the food was spectacular! The fresh calamari was soft and delicious. The main courses were to die for. I can go to heaven happy now after having that meal. The desserts were also amazing. I had pistachio and chocolate gelato and my wife had the dark chocolate mousse. You HAVE to try both. Best fine dining experience we have had in a long time.

One of the worst experience experiences in Halifax. The place was old and musty. Here is our experience - had a birthday reservation for 12 people. They messed up our section. We asked for private dining but they put us at the main dining room. Not a big deal but earlier in the evening we were decorated the private dining room. The hostess / manager didn’t even apologize. She blamed us lol - the decor / music / vibe / food is all from 1980 - the bartender complained loudly about making drinks and cried like a little high school student about doing his job. Keep in mind this is a 35+ male. - side plates looked like ashtrays - dusty decor - staff hanging out at the bar - no thank you on the way out. Just staff chatting at the bar - staff looked dirty. Music was non existent. Restaurant was bright.

Da Maurizio used to be just wonderful. What a shame it's become so ordinary. The food is okay, but at this price point, it should be exceptional. It's not. The same goes for the wine list. It's just meh... inconsistent with the price. The service is slow, apathetic, and even a bit surly at times. Overall, Da Maurizio is a must-skip. It's mediocre, uninteresting, and unwelcoming. There are FAR better fine dining experiences to be had in HRM.

Wonderful food and the service was great! The portion sizes were enough for you to leave full and were full of flavor. I had the duck with fresh orange and cranberry sauce, potatos and a couple of pieces of vegetable. I would go again if given the choice for a special dinner out. We have been to Da Maurizio many times over the years when visiting Halifax and always had a good experience, however,this time we were very disappointed. Not sure if they have new ownership or a new chef but what a disappointment! The herb-crusted halibut dish was dry and underwhelming. We also had the seafood linguine with the 'rose sauce'. No word of a lie the 'rose sauce' tasted like Chef Boyardee in a can. In short, Da Maurizio has succumbed to complacency and is off my list.

The food, although pricey for the terrible service we received, was good. The web-site menu was not the same as the restaurant one when we arrived. We waited a long time and finally had to ask...TWICE...before receiving bread. The appetizers were served with no dipping sauce which is usually customary for calamari. The website described it totally differently. I had to hunt under everything to find the wee bit of balsamic/oil mix that came with the caprice salad. The dinners were placed in front of the wrong people. We were served an app after our dinner was finished which was removed from the table once we mentioned that we didn't order it. Only SOME of the take home doggy bags were complete. Our friend who suggested we go here felt so bad that he apologized and insisted on picking up the entire tab which upset us all. There was never a sincere apology from the staff for all the mistakes For the price... in our opinion is is not worth a return trip to this restaurant.

Very enjoyable meal, clean and well maintained building in the old historic Alexander Keith's brewery. Staff welcomed us immediately on entry, offered to take our coats, and we were seated. Within a minute we had our waiter welcome us and take drink requests. Menu was well laid out, they take dietary restrictions very seriously, The food was freshly prepared, excellent quality and quite filling. This was one of the most memorable and positive dining experiences we have ever had. Will definitely be back.

The only reason I’m giving 3 stars is because my girlfriend and I only ate half our main course because we wanted to save some room for dessert. The waiter took our food and wrapped it up for us or maybe he didn’t Im not sure but on our way home we realized we never got our food back... The waiter was very kind nothing wrong with our service Im just very disappointed that we won’t get to enjoy the rest of our meal:( especially since I had left 3/4 of my food to enjoy at work the next day

Very unimpressed with the food. The service and ambience was very nice (really cute date spot!), but we came for the food. This is listed as one of the best Italian restaurants in Halifax, but all the dishes were extremely mediocre. Everything was unseasoned. The calamari and appetizer (bruschetta salad) were super bland with no flavor. The pasta dishes were edible, but again, VERY bland. I've had better Italian food at a casual restaurant. The price was okay considering the location, but don't go for the food!

This is an extremely good restaurant and while the prices are on the high-end, it is not outrageous. I had the Rigatoni and it was generously portioned and sauced. All food possessed excellent flavour. The decor was nice but slightly dated. The service was excellent, prompt but not intrusive and our server, Kelly was accommodating and knowledgeable.

Incredible staff & atmosphere! Very accommodating of allergies as well; my wife has a severe nut allergy and the waiter and hostess were very upfront and they make everything fresh so it's safe. Very good quality for the price, one of the best fine dining experience in Halifax!

Food was excellent, as good as any restaurant in Nova Scotia. Prices were correspondingly high. Service was surprisingly poor. On the few occasions our inattentive server appeared, she interrupted the conversation at the table without seeming to notice.

Delicious food, 100% consistent and amazing service. Best resto in the city for 30 years running. Best caesar salad in the city. Excellent variety on the menu equalled by a rich wine list. Cozy ambiance. We had calamari as well, yumm. For our mains: Gnocci, halibut, artichoke risotto, lamb shank, all superb and generous portions. Only critique: chairs in the smaller private room downstairs are not the most comfy. Otherwise, everything fabulous.

A truly five star dining experience. This past Saturday evening our dinner enjoyed at Da Maurizio was nothing short of spectacular. Our server was extremely friendly, perfect table placement for a quiet evening, and absolutely phenomenal food. Compared to other restaurants in Atlantic Canada, da maurizio simply beats them in ever aspect. A real experience of dinning.

We went out for dinner and experienced Da Maurizio for the first time hearing positive reviews from our friends. But for the type of restaurant that it was and the expectations we had the service wasn't comparable to other restaurants we've been to like A mano's. For example after asking the waitress for just a couple more minutes with the menu it took her closer to 15-20 minutes to return and when we asked for our food to be packed up to take home it never came back to us. Little things also that weren't a big deal but water could've been filled more frequently and the candle re-lit when it had gone out would've been nice. Overall the food was great but just really disappointed in the service that resulted in a negative experience in what was suppose to be a special night in a more upscale restaurant.

Helped a friend celebrate her 60th birthday last night at Da Maurizio. Five star service, thank you Kelly; fantastic food; fun atmosphere; and an all around great eating experience. Thank you Kelly (our server) for making such a great fuss over the birthday girl, while meeting the needs of everyone at the table. I will not hesitate to refer this special place to others.

Had a fantastic dinner. The only downside was having to choose what delicious dish to eat! We had the veal scallopini and the lamb chops, followed by tiramisu and the gelato/brownie. Everything was absolutely delicious and we walked away full (for reference, the desserts are more than enough to share!). Our server, Sean, was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. He helped us refine our choices and made us feel very welcome. Will definitely be back.

We were able to sneak in before COVID restrictions 2.0 kicked in. Sad to see that great businesses such as these will probably struggle through the winter of 2020-2021. We were a party of 9, and everyone was absolutely satisfied with their meals. Cozy setting, great service, did not feel pressure to leave from the staff after desert. Highly recommended - 5 Stars.
